Larry Groebe is back with Project Audion's“I was a Communist for the FBI” was an exciting 1952-1953 Cold-War era radio thriller series that purported to tell the real-life story of Matt Cvetic, who posed as a member of the Communist Party while actually spying for the FBI. Whether mostly true or mostly fantastic, these half hour “radio noir” dramas really illustrate the fears which the Red Menace held for mid-century America.
Many episodes of this taut melodrama can be heard today, but a handful are lost, and Project Audion’s March show is one of them - “Citizens of Nowhere” - now rediscovered and recreated from an original script located in archives in New York City.
Our nationwide cast performs this for the first time in 70 years -- and does a spectacular job, if I do say so myself (and I do.) Here they are, looking properly tense and/or suspicious:
