We're following this breaking news. Good morning. Thanks for listening. It's going to be nice to be here while the really big story's on your listening to the Today in San Diego podcast. Good morning. I'm Nichelle Medina with NBC seven. Here's a look at some of the headlines. Police are searching for the person involved in a deadly shooting in Otai Mesa. One person was killed another in the hospital with serious injuries. San Diego police say they got a call Friday evening from a witness who saw the victim get shot by someone in a passing vehicle. When police arrived, they found the victim on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds on hidden trails road. Shortly after officers say they found a second victim with gunshot wounds. They say a 40 year old man died on scene. A 42 year old man was taken to the hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries. We need the community to come together, give us the information we need so we can solve this. Now please do not have a suspect description other than they may have been in a four door dark colored sedan. They say one of the cars that was at the scene believed to be Alexis was later found several miles away with bullet holes. Police are asking anyone with information to call. More than a thousand nurses at Brady Children's Hospital say they plan to strike. It comes after another failed round of contract negotiations. This week, the union gave a 10 day strike notice. They say they plan to strike for five days toward the end of August. This will be the nurses second work stoppage in recent weeks as the group initiated a two day strike last month. In a statement, the union said wages are still the issue, which is forcing nurses back to the picket line. Parents of patients say they understand what the nurses are asking for. Brady's has saved my daughter's life at some point a year and a half ago and the nursing staff got us through it. I'm all for them getting whatever they need to be able to feel safe and valued and have enough to do what they do. I have friends that are nurses. It's super important. In a statement, Brady Children said it believes, quote, the most recent tentative agreement was fair, competitive and sustainable. Meantime, hundreds of doctors, nurses and other providers are taking to the streets protesting what they say are unfair pay and working conditions at Sharp Hospitals. The workers say they're pushing to increase pay and staffing levels at their facilities across the county. The healthcare providers say they want Sharp to negotiate in good faith as they have been working without a contract for six months. A message is simple. We just want Sharp to stop intimidating us, parking us, and causing fear amongst us for demanding and asking for something basic. We want them to address the staffing crisis, the working conditions, and the wages we live in one of the most expensive cities in the United States, and healthcare heroes are not being treated with the dignity that they deserve. My mother and two kids, I cannot afford to be a two-bedroom apartment. I have to live in a one-bedroom apartment to make it, and I work between 60 to 70 hours a week just to make it ends neat, just to go to survive. Sharp did release a statement saying while they agree with their employees' right to organize, they do not agree with the statements made by the union about Sharp. Meteorologist Brooke Martell has a look at the forecast. Good Saturday morning. We are having a little bit of cloud cover as we kick off the weekend, but we have great temperatures in store for this afternoon. Let's get right to it. If you're heading to the beach today, it should be pretty nice out there, mid-70s along the immediate coast. We'll see a little bit of cloud cover, but some sunshine as well. Downtown San Diego, low 80s for your Saturday. Meantime, over the Inland Valley communities, most areas will be right around the upper 80s to the upper 90s. We're definitely trending warmer for those deeper interiors like Ramona with a daytime hike close to 98 degrees. Same thing with the sunshine going into this afternoon, but some clouds also in the mix periodically. Over your mountains and desert region, we do have thunderstorm chances because of that monsoonal moisture that's continuing for this weekend. So that will be for today and also into Sunday. Some models are showing some better opportunity for those thunderstorms developing Sunday afternoon. Meantime, your temperatures over the higher elevations around the low 90s will be close to 110 degrees over Burego Springs. I'll send it back over to you. It's that time of year again. Clear the shelters is back as several shelters are experiencing an overflow of animals. They're offering discounted fees during the month-long campaign. This includes the San Diego Humane Society, which is having half-off adoption fees. For a list of local shelters taking part, you can head to our homepage.
