We're following this breaking news. Good morning. Thanks for listening. It's going to be nice to be here while the really big story is on your listening to the today and San Diego podcast. Good morning. I'm just Shem Medina with NBC seven. Here's a look at some of the headlines. Please invest our searching for answers after a teenager was shot and killed. Four shooting victims showed up at Palomar Hospital yesterday. Among them was a 19 year old man who ultimately died from his wounds. And they say two others are in critical condition. Investigators believe the shooting happened in the Civic Center drive area VISTAs Saturday morning. Call Crime Stoppers if you have any information. The union that represents nurses at Radio Children's Hospital says union members are set to strike Monday after it rejected the hospital's final offer. In a statement to NBC seven, Radio Children's Hospital said it's deeply disappointed that the negotiation team did not accept its latest offer. The union says a lack of fair wages and adequate benefits led to the nurses having no choice but to go on strike. Concern is mounting this morning over a growing number of San Diegans falling into homelessness. The regional task force on homelessness says in the month of June, nearly 1200 San Diegans became homeless for the first time. At the same time, the group says that they were able to get almost 1000 people into housing. But they say that's not enough as the number of people becoming homeless in the county has outpaced those finding housing each month for more than two years. A man who was stabbed during a hate crime at a homeless shelter is sharing his story for the first time and he's calling attention to safety issues. Cash's hope arrived in San Diego over a year ago. He got a job at Legoland and stayed at La Posada de Guadalupe, a homeless shelter in Carlsbad. In December, another man at the shelter stabbed him multiple times while saying racial slurs. The attacker pleaded guilty and was sentenced to nine years in prison, but Cash's says more should have been done to prevent the attack. You don't know these people, like the whole time, any time the lights go out, they could have done that in my sleep. Catholic Charities runs La Posada. It says it has taken action to prevent another incident like this from happening, including a policy review, safety planning and listening sessions with residents. Meteorologist Brooke Martel has a look at the forecast. Good Sunday morning. I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. Let's get right to it with your daytime highs as we round off the weekend. We're right around the low to upper 70s for your coastal communities today. We do have that marine layer, that cloud cover throughout the morning, but looking at mostly sunny skies by this afternoon. Meantime, over your inland valley communities, we have temperatures mainly from the 80s to about the mid 90s. We'll have a mix of 80s and 90s over your mountain communities and right around 115 degrees today for your desert region. The heat advisory has been extended for your inland valley communities now through Wednesday. So do keep that in mind while you're out and about this week, it is going to be hot. We're hanging on to temperatures again, right around the 90s. Same thing goes for your desert region. We have that excessive heat warning also now extended through Wednesday night and just a quick preview of what we can expect for this upcoming week besides the heat, temperatures along the coastline staying right around the upper 70s for max daytime highs and then over our mountains and our deserts by Tuesday, we can actually see another opportunity for thunderstorm chances. I'll send it back over. Thanks for listening to our podcast today in San Diego, I'm Nichelle Medina with NBC7. Thank you for listening to today in San Diego.
