We're following this breaking news. Good morning. Thanks for listening. It's going to be nice to be here while the really big story is on your listening to the today in San Diego podcast. Good morning. I'm just Shama Dina with NBC seven. Here's a look at some of the headlines. Millions of computer systems are still trying to get back to normal after a software update brought a number of industries to a standstill. Experts are calling it the biggest IT outage ever. The outage happened after crowd strike pushed a flawed update to Microsoft computers Thursday night. Nearly 10,000 flights got canceled and over 2,500 had it be canceled. Meantime, hundreds of hospitals were knocked offline, forcing many to cancel procedures, as well as banks, 911 systems and public transportation networks. Here at home, San Diego police and fire departments tell us their systems in the field and headquarters were compromised. It was a similar situation for the sheriff's department. Following the outage, US lawmakers stressed that they believe the chaos was caused by a computer malfunction and not a cyber security attack. There was some kind of glitch in a software update. This was not to the best of my knowledge now, a malicious attack of any kind. But look, it does underscore some very basic things. We have to continue to build resilience in our systems. We have to continue to build redundancy. We have to continue to diversify, so we're not reliant as best possible on any single point of failure. The problem has been fixed and most computers are now back online, but the residual effects from the outage could continue through the weekend, even into Monday. In the South Bay, one person is dead after stabbing in Chula Vista. Now, police are looking for the person responsible. Chula Vista police say a 40 year old man was found dead with stab wounds near Santa Lucia Road. They say at the moment it does not appear to be a random attack. We spoke with one neighbor who came out to see what was going on. He says he heard a helicopter circling the area. Cops were running kind of in that direction, kind of towards the pool. And we just kind of sat down here and watched him for a while. We couldn't really hear a ton, but you could hear probably for a good half an hour or 40 minutes, the helicopter flying around really kind of sad to see something like this happening here in a nice community that we've been enjoying so far. We say there is no threat to the public, we'll keep you posted as we learn more information on our website NBC7.com. San Diego Pride weekend is underway, now considered one of the biggest pride celebrations in the US. About 300,000 people are expected to gather in Hillcrest for parade. It will then be followed by the two day San Diego Pride Festival in Balboa Park. Today is also a big day for horse racing. It is opening day for the Delmar racing season. The Delmar Thorbread Club says this is the first time since the 1950s that the races will begin on the Saturday. Gates open at 11 30 this morning, first post is at 2. Meteorologist Brooke Martell has a look at the forecast. Hey there and happy Saturday. We have a lot going on across the county and we want to make sure that you're staying safe in this heat. Keep in mind we do have a heat advisory that's covering our inland valleys and our mountains through tomorrow night. Temperatures across these regions from the mid 90s to the low 100s. Over our desert region will stay close to about 115 degrees and we have that excessive heat warning in place through tomorrow evening as well. And if you're heading to the coast today, temperatures will be great. We're going to be right around those mid to upper 70s. Just make sure you're packing the sunscreen on because we will have those sunny skies making way after we get through this morning. It'll be sunny across the entire county and of course a huge day for San Diego County. We're talking about the San Diego pride parade kicking off this morning at 10 o'clock going until three o'clock. It is going to be warm. We're looking at temperatures to peak right around the mid 80s. If you're heading to the parade, that'll be close to about 1 PM and then obviously a little bit warmer with so many people packing through Hillcrest. So just keep that in mind. Make sure you're staying hydrated with water that you're taking some breaks in the shade whatever you're doing on this Saturday because we have those warmer temperatures across the entire county and looking ahead to tomorrow, we're staying pretty consistent. Again, we have that heat advisory and excessive heat warning in effect through Sunday night. We're looking at a little bit of a tapering with our temperatures as we kick off this upcoming week, but we will have warmer daytime highs by mid week. Stay safe and I'll send it back over to you.
