We're following this breaking news. Good morning. Thanks for listening. It's going to be nice, but we're here while the really big story's on. You're listening to the Today in San Diego podcast. Good morning. It's Saturday, July 13th. You're listening to today in San Diego and Brooke Martel. Here are your top headlines. This year's Comic Con is back on track after workers at the convention center struck a tentative contract agreement with the venue. A new contract agreement was reached last night and is believed to include a more than 50% wage increase and expanded health care benefits. The four-year contract impacts nearly 700 convention center cooks, dishwashers and other food service employees. Before the contract can go into effect, union members must vote to ratify the deal. No formal date for that vote has been set. Comic Con is set to kick off in less than two weeks. And it's a win for families in Poway after they rallied to keep a sexually violent predator out of their neighborhood. The group wanted to stop the placement of Merle Wakefield at a home on Sycamore Canyon Road. Poway Mayor Steve Voss says the owner of the property no longer agreed to house him. Wakefield was convicted of multiple sex charges, including the rape of a 10-year-old girl. He has served his sentence and needs to be placed under supervision on conditional release. Her say they opposed the placement because the home selected was near an elementary school and a therapeutic writing center for kids with disabilities. To help kick off San Diego Pride celebrations, dozens are expected to gather for this afternoon's She Fest. The event is taking place in Hillcrest and brings together queer, small businesses, leaders, and artists. She Fest organizers say the event was created to empower LGBTQ+ women and non-binary people. But most of all, yearly attendees say it brings the community together in a safe space. She Fest begins at noon today at the Hillcrest Pride flag on University Avenue. It's one of four events planned today to help celebrate the beginning of Pride. You can find more information on our website, NBC7.com. Meantime the battle over beachfront yoga classes is heading to court. Two instructors who have held classes at sunset cliffs for years are suing the city. The city says you have to have a permit for commercial activities and public parks. Though the yoga classes may be free, the city says they are commercial activities because the instructors accept donations and advertise their services. One of the instructors say donations aren't required. He says their goal is to make yoga accessible to everyone. And we're cooling down just a bit for this weekend and finally getting a break from the record breaking heat. Temperatures are slowly inching downward as we head into the weekend. The coast may not see much of a difference, but inland areas will be a few degrees cooler today. And tomorrow we're also seeing a push of monsoonal moisture that's coming up from the south and that could peak today. That moisture will make it feel more humid most places and bring a slight chance for an afternoon thunderstorm for the mountains and deserts. And the best chance for any thunderstorms would be today over those mountain communities. And temperature wise, we're still right around those low to mid 70s at the coast. You can see some sunshine going into this afternoon, sunny skies over the valleys, low to mid 80s there. Some areas still close to those low 90s too. Mountain communities, sunny with the chance of those thunderstorms right around the upper 80s and sunny and hot over the desert region. Your daytime highs there around 110 degrees warm out there across our desert region. Well, thanks for listening to today in San Diego. I'm Brooke Martel. Have a great Saturday.
