We're following this breaking news. Good morning. Thanks for listening. It's gonna be nice. We're here while the really big story's on. You're listening to the Today in San Diego podcast. Hey there and happy 4th of July. Happy birthday. America. I'm Stephen Luke. Hopefully you have your day off of work and maybe a busy day planned with family and friends. Find yourself at a hot dog eating contest or just watching fireworks tonight. Hey, whatever the day has in store for you. We hope it's a good one for you. There's a lot going on going to get into it in a moment. But first want to let you listen in on how some San Diegans experience the holiday a little bit early. Discover Mission Bay hosting their annual fireworks show last night as a lot of people all around the waterfront got to see this spectacular view of the 18 minute long show, a number of other fireworks displays going off as well. Maybe you saw those or heard them as well tonight's the big one. It is the biggest fireworks display called the Big Bay boom. Of course, that's because it's four different barges with the fireworks that hopefully won't all go off at the same time like that one year that we all remember. So clearly if you were in town for that one, no, that was the only year that there's been a big mess up. The rest of them have just been spectacular too, but in a different way. It is just such a wonderful gathering of people all around San Diego Bay with the coordinated music and the fireworks all going up in those four different locations. So that's going to get underway at night o'clock tonight and always a big celebration in Coronado where they have their own fireworks display on the bay side of the hotel Dell, but they're going to start the day a little early, really early actually. They have the Crown City Classic, which is a run including a 12 K, a 5 K and a kids half mile run as well. They're going to have their 75th annual Independence Day parade from 10 in the morning until 12 30 down Orange Avenue and a bunch of things after that with music and the Navy's leap frogs doing a display and things like that. By the way, if you're not heading to Coronado, you can come to Scripps Ranch. I will be there with my co anchor and friend Monica Dean announcing this parade which starts at 10 a.m. It's the 54th annual 4th of July parade in Scripps Ranch. This year's theme America's called a sack will see along Scripps Ranch Boulevard. And for a full list of where you can watch the 4th of July fireworks and parades all around the county, head on over to our website NBC seven dot com. So let's get you caught up right now though on your first alert forecast, Yoshina good Thursday morning and happy 4th of July. It's going to be another warm day. It's actually going to look a lot like yesterday. So for the beaches, we are going to start out with the cloud cover this morning. We will see gradual clearing some of these clouds, maybe just kind of lingering for parts of the coastline. But overall, it is going to be a nice afternoon at the beaches temperature should be right around the mid 70s for the coastal communities. We'll see highs near 80 degrees and if you are at the beaches today, keep in mind the rip current risk is going to be high. So be very careful in the water. Water temperatures are in the low 70s now. And if you are going to be out in the water wave heights, you're going to be around two to four feet with some sets near five feet, but just be aware of those dangerous rip currents for the Inland valleys. It'll be sunny with high temperatures near 90 degrees hot inland today again for the mountains. We'll be in the mid to low 90s and sunny and deserts near about 115. We stay hot as we head through the weekend. So not a big change here with our temperatures, but we will be getting hotter for the Inland valleys for Friday and Saturday, even the mountains. And that's where we have an excessive heat warning as we start off the weekend. Make sure you stay hydrated and stay cool. Sheena, thank you. The CHP says it will have as many officers on patrol as possible during this fourth of July holiday weekend. The maximum enforcement period now in effect, it ends just before midnight Monday morning. Officers will be on the lookout for speeders and drunk drivers. Last year, 68 people died in crashes statewide. So they're just stressing for drivers to slow down and drive responsibly and in observance of Independence Day, all city and county offices, resource centers, libraries and animal shelters are going to be closed. San Diego Sheriff's department will also be closed, but that of course doesn't mean the deputies won't be out there. They will be working along with the dispatchers and medical staff. County parks and campgrounds will stay open for the holiday as well. In our East County evacuation warnings have now been lifted as firefighters are making really good progress on getting that McCain fire completely extinguished near Hukumba. It sparked Monday. It's burned about 1600 acres. It is 70% surrounded right now. A popular dog park for San Diego is getting national attention out of 12 dog parks across the country readers at USA Today named Fiesta Island as the top dog park this morning. Fiesta Island is just one of two beach areas in our city where dogs are welcome at all times. Next to dog beach, a spokesperson from the city's park and rec department said, we know San Diego's love. They're very friends and it's important that we provide spaces for dogs and their owners to get outside year round. So the Padres will finish with this. They have a starter in the outfield at the all-star game for the first time since Tony Gwyn back in 1998, Jerkson Profar and Fernando Tatisse Jr. been named starters for the National League. Tatisse will likely miss the game as he's healing up from the stress fracture. But Profar, what a season. This is his first ever all-star game and it's taken him a while. He's in his early 30s and so it's not like he's a rookie or something like that. He's been around doing this for a long time and it's really coming together this season. Potters fans are thankful. You can see him in action in the big all-star game on July 16th. Let us say one more time, happy 4th of July to you, hope it's a safe one for you and your family.
