and a good Friday morning everybody it is kale and company live here on this 26th day of July the time has arrived for another edition of the Friday fun bunch and we are presented as always by our good friends at Northeast Delta Dental and today folks I don't hear what Tom better you're a mr. punctuality mr. punctuality timeless Tom Raphael is with us president CEO of Northeast Delta and it's technically less than five months away from Christmas oh my god so this is a lot of people have Christmas in July right yeah we do baseball team celebrate it and you know a bunch of other people and organizations and we are going to celebrate it today on the 26th because we weren't together on the 25th no but we are together at least in some form yeah mr. by one day this is the 26th of July I love that we get together every Friday I just you sitting around a coach catching up that is true we have we have caught up on a lot of things over the years and today by the way I did want to mention in the celebration of our Christmas in July that it is aunts and uncles day really and so sometimes you know Christmas might be the only time that you get to see your aunts and uncles in some cases depending on where they may live but I I'm down quite a few aunts and uncles right now but yeah I think I'm down to one now uncle Franny really and I have two aunts that are still living my aunt Alice and my aunt Ruby my mom was one of 50 oh Ruby don't take your love to tell them I think you would love that song too yeah yes yep Kenny Rogers who was addition who has gone to the great he has gone microphone in the sky he has that he has but we'll we'll celebrate some other folks who have as well on this Christmas in July on WK XL and h talk radio dot com I think I'm down to one on now one one on Barbara you know yes and you call her babes I don't I don't I don't but but you know he's a kid when she was she was in fact she used to watch me when I was a kid really oh my baby oh baby oh she yes you know what and I know I have met Ken's on Barbara and do you call her babes no no she no she is I don't know she might like slot me around or something if I did that but I don't know but she actually told me a story about she actually was one that was teaching or was with you Ken when you took you first steps yep that's right yeah that's right that was kind of cool was as he was entering high school I think so I'm not sure if it's a step to fame or what it was might have been when he was to WK and yeah right you know he was like my whole radio station in my bedroom yeah correct but anyway she's been around and my whole life and glad that she has been he was just a terrific lady so happy birthday to my only remaining happy birthday oh well I'm happy Merry Christmas Merry Christmas in July yes an happy aunties day yes in fact it is aunties day they I actually did see yours aren't aunties day and that it was aunt's and uncle's day right but I have a special niece I have a lot of nieces because as you guys know I'm from a very large family but I have a niece who said to me a number of times that I was like I'm like more close to her than her mom and dad and she's very close to our mom and dad this is my niece Paige who lives in New Orleans so I tried to go down and see her as many times as I can and I know her mom and dad listened to the show so sorry guys they are you know that they page loves you though don't worry yes she does she does she's terrific and great to visit her in New Orleans haven't done it in a while however nighttime on the city of New Orleans boy we're going all over that you know what I Tom I love that in you that whatever we're talking about you can think of a song because I'm that same way I will think of a song and this is why people love to go with it people love to brainstorm with me when we're doing like at work and we have we're trying to brainstorm some things is like that kind of something hits in my brain and I break out in an idea or song yeah that's that's good and a song can create ideas as well yeah and you know what else day today is Ken and I don't know if you were gonna talk about this Saint Swivens day no it's a national all or nothing day all or nothing at all that's a song - wow yeah I can't I can't sing like Tom but that is a song that is one of the things they talk what they said was take the risk and if you want to sing in public or want to get up and do karaoke take that risk stop think just thinking I wish I had done that or go there or see that person or do that do it - Tom has never seen a karaoke microphone he doesn't like it and Scott Scott's Bradley and I can hook up but that you know that mantra that you just described what that was Joe Casper who died tragically a week or so ago that was the mantra that he had on his door you know would be silly get out of your comfort zone be happy because life is short yeah that is something in this being all or nothing day that is really the theme of that so maybe exactly right so we've covered two of the days that are being commemorated on this is more there are it's a holistic therapy day what'd you take on that do you a total body massage things like that I get it yeah so it's that day - that would be nice for Christmas and good way to celebrate Christmas in July with a full body massage yeah that would be and you know and the people talk about going and have acupuncture or you know things like that mental health or that's the whole body together yeah no I I'm a firm believer in in holistic I mean I'm not saying there are certain times you do need to have like prescriptions go to the doctor to make sure everything is all right but you know if you can take care of it the natural way get your retinor reattached you know yeah no can I don't think that was yeah that was not going to be done by a home methods so I'm glad you're seeing well and doing well I'm I'm seeing about you know I'm doing okay doing all right it's a national bagel fest day whoa it's a national here's one that I tend I mean I intend to celebrate today which is especially since it's Christmas in July national coffee milkshake day coffee milkshake oh man you can drink a coffee milkshake and maybe listen to a little Bing Crosby oh there he actually has a Christmas in July ish kind of song he does oh this is Bing this is the stolen from Jimmy Buffett well technically Jimmy Buffett stole it for Bing oh my car is a thing to say on a bright and a wine Christmas day that's the island greeting that we send you from the line he did have a great voice outstanding voice yep wasn't he a meanie-dell in real life I don't know there have been reports to that effect I don't know I'm not terrified I've heard that that he was a little difficult to work with but there you go I love that version there's been I did I love his voice that's great don't don't let John Leahy know you like it better than Jimmy Buffett's oh you know I'm not a huge Jimmy Buffett fan I was not I know I know well then he went to his reward the great yeah buffet in the sky it's marker eat it though speaking of great performers Tom saw one last week oh my god I you know you you guys you really goaded me into making sure I went to the little concert so I had so I went to what I call metal broke but it's called Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion and we had a bunch of insurance brokers and so you know it was like a night out and I did a little talk and it was great and in the past when I've taken them to the shows at Metalbrook I've dragged Ellen with me my beautiful wife Ellen but she doesn't realize that I don't stay for the show so he's like the warm-up act not even the warm-up act I just he likes the ones on the stage by the gate exactly I do my shoes so she would go like I like for two or three years she would go like we're not we're walking towards the parking lot not just a don't that's what we're leaving and and the last year she got particularly aggravated because I think I told this story last time but I saw two women from who I work out with at Orange theory and they had lost their tickets and we were walking towards the parking lot they were walking in and they said oh Tom we lost our tickets and so I go so I pull out the two tickets from my pocket that were really Ellen's in mind I think that was a setup I think that was a no well no that's what Ellen thinks but it was so random like what were the what were the chances of that seriously that I won that I'd be walking in at that point two that I had the two tickets right in my lapel pocket yep and three that these women came right yes and that they lost their ticket and this is why folks they stayed for this year so look right which after the break I'll tell you I'll tell you about it was really really good it's it's amazing that that later that this was last year right yep that you actually had tickets and not on the phone you know that's the that's an amazing thing now because most tickets are on phones so any part I like I still like hard I like hard tickets to much much better we will take a break discuss hard tickets and other things right at four o'clock in the morning a lot of work we do with the andro we welcome you back to this edition of the Friday fun bunch Christmas in July Merry Christmas I know it's still several months away but it's always good to be in the Christmas spirit and there's a couple of reasons we're doing it had an excuse to play Bing Crosby and then we're going to have at least one more Christmas song before we wrap things up at least one maybe two but can you know the weather has been so hot the weather has not been delightful carefully you're gonna segue you know you're not gonna believe this but the the favorite song of Havana and myself and around Christmas time is the Bing Crosby's version of the drummer boy oh yeah yeah yeah yeah we kind of sing it together yeah do edit with the one and only David Bowie yeah and then and then and then the the who's the the singer that married the hockey player so she sings it as well with her yeah with her little son and Havana Havana likes that version sometimes but I I kind of steer her to the Bing Crosby more traditional yeah yeah a little drummer boy yeah yeah one of the one of the classics well I'm appreciating because it's been hot and this weather I mean with the hot weather thinking holidays when a cooler weather I'm enjoying it so we did not give Tom a proper opportunity the last segment to talk about Luke Bryan and why he was so impressed by the kind I was so so so as described you know I did stay for the whole thing we were at the Sam Adams place that is you can you can hear the concert you don't actually don't have to go in if you don't want to but of course we did but so we we heard the the two warm-up acts hunter girl and Lily Rose particularly hunter girl from the Sam Adams bar place is that the one that's like overhangs overhangs yeah we went to that earlier this year and so that's where and it was kind of great because like there's two big rooms and brokers could circulate so I could talk to them and it was great and then we moved then we moved in to the actual seats and and to see Lily Rose who then came back on she's actually I think she's gonna be somebody so she actually played a couple of songs with with Luke Bryan oh wow so then finally well not finally but you know around nine ten Luke comes on and and he you know he gives it a hundred and twenty five percent the whole time but the one thing I didn't realize is people at least where I was it was a really good seats people stand the whole time oh yeah yeah and it's like standing for two and a half hours is a lot so at some point I just sat down and looked through someone's armpit but I never I never realized that no and it's true when you do get great seats and you're up close you're just gonna get ready to I mean need to be prepared to stand or dance or whatever because I'm trying to think of the last concert Ken that you and I went to that we stood the whole time it was Brooks and Dunn yes the whole time so and sometimes that's why I do like to go a little further back because you can actually sit down yeah because I was kind of you know I was I was really for ready for a comfortable night out but you know standing and shouting and clapping your hands and then yeah and we just run the bill duty five-mile or that morning I was ready to kind of sit down but nevertheless it was great and towards the end he even did like you know sweet Caroline song did he really yeah in a few other well those sort of traditional fun songs so so it was great I would highly recommend them I'm not necessarily an expert in country music but Luke Bryant was out nor am I these days I'll add to me I have to make this confession a lot a lot of the bless me father for us a lot of the male country singers these days on the scene sound a lot alike to me I would not be able to tell one from another I mean they to me and then that's just to me how about jelly roll though trained yeah I wouldn't probably know here I'm if I if I saw these people yeah I'd be one thing but if I was just listening right I wouldn't know one one from the other the new country I mean you know like Randy Travis oh and yeah his you know he has Jackson yeah those people I know their own style you know you mentioned the country singers and how they all sound similar I think Chris Stapleton though he is he I know he's an older singer but I do want to go see him I haven't seen him yet but he has a specific sound I know what Tom's thinking I know what he's thinking right now relationship to Whitey Stapleton did I get I thought you're gonna say Dave Stapleton what Whitey Stapleton whose real name was Pat was a defenseman oh boy for the Chicago Blackhawks that's what he was average and those and those days they most defense and except for Bobby or were defensive defense but I never could figure out because on the on the radio when you're a little boy they they call him Pat Stapleton and then I would go on the TV and they'd be calling him Whitey Stapleton yeah it's just the same guy you know yeah that's stapleton that's right I thought you're gonna say Dave well Dave the question you remember his claim to fame I do I can tell you his claim to fame because that was pointed out to me by someone who was in this room not named Kitty Ray so tell tell the every year that Dave Stapleton who should have taken over at first base for Bill Bucky in 1986 yes but that's not what Tom was talking about he was talking about Dave Stapleton's batting average declined every year that he was in the main like for eight or nine years he started he started seriously he started as a 300 hitter and by the end he was below the Mendoza line which I'll explain to you 200 oh geez 200 is cuz this guy Mario Mendoza or shortstop every year he hit either 199 or 201 so someone termed it the Mendoza line but Dave Stapleton was a good hitter it just totally declined for like 10 years but he still should have been in that game at first base because I had nothing to do with hitting but he should have been because John McNamara did replace Bill Bucky with Dave Stapleton whenever the Red Sox had the lead in that but he wanted to keep him in to celebrate the wickery I guess is that when the ball went by his ankle was that the bloody ankle and that's the excuse no bloody ankle is 2004 when we actually won but this was the one where it went by his ankle and went through his legs yes right through the wickets of Dave's Bill Buckner and Bill Buckner has gone to the big first baseman's made his guy I think Dave Stapleton's still around though and Chris Stapleton is certainly around because he's gonna be at the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion and I want to go see him and at break you'll have to look up whether Whitey Stapleton is still with us well we will do that during the break and I want you to multitask particularly with one eye right yes thank you Michael when I jack peeping through a seafood store or something yeah but anyway so it's a Christmas in July right here at WK XL as we have designated here on the Friday fun bunch because we have at least at least two Christmas song snippets that we have snippets yes and you know what we're like the gift that keeps on giving this show is absolutely is it a snippet Andrew or sample you know how like rapper sample famous songs oh and that's oh look at you wow a demo could be a sample I think it's really it's all the same thing snippet to me that's more like we're gonna take a snippet of a poem let's throw this we're gonna hear a little bit we could do this all day discuss terminology but we don't have time we wish we had more but but we don't we were you know down to down to an hour and that's that's not bad time after time oh I love you son you're gonna sing sing a long time timeless time right Cindy Lauper Cindy Lauper had me Lauper just how is it Christmas though it's not it's not we're talking about time time just on time time after time I love Cindy Lauper she's still going oh yeah yeah I think she's having a like she is still performing I think yeah she's she's tonight time the Olympics open up tonight in Paris and reportedly Celine Dion is going to sing at the Olympics tonight I think Snoop Dogg's going to be carrying one of the torches or something I mean yeah I think it's a different kind of towards what we can't talk about that is a family show Ken she's experienced carrying the torches I really hope though that Celine does I think she will because you know just a few weeks ago when I watched that her love letter to her fans it was just I'm I really hope she's out I mean she gets out there and can do it again yeah and let's hope so let us hope so and that there's still that documentary on one of the platforms what is it is Doc where do you so come they're the real coke bottle and we are presented by Northeast Delta Dental welcome back tail and company live here on WKXL NH chock radio calm it is the Friday's fun bunch we are celebrating hope you are too Christmas in July here on this national talk in an elevator day Wow talking an elevator that's you know you do an elevator pitch I tell I tell my I suggest to my employees sometimes you get you get pretend you're an elevator and you have to get the oral health message out and I live along that takes a minute or less and they get it we call that the elevator pitch nice I like that you know and when you get in an elevator it's like no one says a word they don't even make eye contact and then you do have some that start hey you're doing whatever one of the funniest times of me getting on an elevator I was I think I was at a local casino well was on the locals in Connecticut and we just had gone to like this buffet I get on the elevator and the elevator I kid you not made I got sound and I said whoa I didn't I didn't realize I made I didn't realize I ate that much food because it was like the elevator went down you know made a cookie sound oh my god this was a family show kitty hey I'm just saying I over ate at the buffet there you go and stay too long at the fair - that can not can have effects as well but we are here to celebrate Christmas in July and I do want to mention and I want to talk with Tom about what's coming up on the running scene soon but I do want to mention that we still are looking for our first vanity insanity winner this is week number four now the plate he might cool you off make make you think of Christmas S-N-O-W-Y S-N-O-W-Y and so we'll give a smile one last time a little musical accompaniment all the way outside it's right and since we've no place to go let it snow let it snow let it snow man it doesn't show signs it's stopping and I brought me some corn for father the lights are turned away down low everybody let it snow let it snow let it snow Tom and Dean did you ever think you'd sing and do it with Dean Martin no not with Dino that and I hope you don't do it again in the near future but at any rate that's Dean Martin who who who who did the three of Dino and who else you know D. and Billy know Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis theater water pack Joey Bishop Joey Bishop remember when he did their talk of course at night you know the announcer was do you remember who the announcer was on that show the announcer was much better than the star I think in my humble opinion I don't recall Regis Philbin Regis Wow of course Regis wasn't Regis when he was the announcer on the Joe Bishop show but later on he was Regis and I always enjoyed Regis and those are when the night shows were full like 90 minutes and they were and they weren't all these a million commercials and in fact I remember when Jack Parr was on my grandfather was a great fan of Jack Parr who hosted the tonight show long before Johnny Carson and they used to stay on I mean they they broke all the rules back then they used to stay on past one o'clock sometimes if Jack Parr had a great guest that'd stay on later than one o'clock and drinking and smoking yeah they're only smoking and you know I'm having a little cocktail you know but but they did they they stayed on they stayed on but at any rate Tom what is happening in the running community so tomorrow at Canterbury not Canterbury Shaker Village but Canterbury where the fair is we have a 5k road race so I'm hoping to see you two there and we call this race you'll get your fastest and slowest mile split of the season because the first 3/4 of a mile you're going straight downhill so you'll like that straight downhill yeah but I think there's a buck coming and then it flattens out then you go up a little but the last half mile you're going straight uphill which will be one of your slowest splits and that comes late in the race it comes at the end yeah at the end so just be aware of that so that's at nine o'clock you go to the Canterbury Middle School which is right by the fair and then what we typically do is most runners stick around and go to the Canterbury fair which is still oh it's still going on yeah it's still nice and and of course we'll give us an opportunity to honor our calm fallen comrade Joe Casper who would normally have been announcing that race so we're gonna have a jumbo Tron with his photo and a few other things so so that's Saturday Canterbury tomorrow morning nine o'clock start so we'll get you in and out but definitely stay for the Canterbury fair and then just a quick plug for my veteran's friends when I'm on this show I generally get two or three calls Friday afternoon or Monday but call me at two two three thirteen hundred area code six oh three if you're in dental pain or need help with your oral health and you're not covered by the VA then please call me and I will coordinate that with dr. Mitch Curry and I know we lost Joe Casper last week and also another member of the running community as well yeah Bob Kennedy so while we were running the Bill Moody five-mile or we Bob wasn't there and I and he's he kind of leads the us sort of peers of 65 and overseas and runners it's actually called a 65 plus New England Runners Club so it's not just New Hampshire so Bravo isn't there and I asked where's Bob oh he's he's doing a bike bike run bike race or bike organized event in Dover New Hampshire so I so I thought okay great and then and then I'm reading on the news that someone about his age hit a pothole not to be confused with the potholes out here and went went head over and he ended up dying did never never regain consciousness so so we lost you know of course Tom Walton the year and half ago now Joe and now Bob so that's why I seize the moment hug your children your partner yeah for sure but he lived he lived a full life he was continuously even in his 70s doing you know marathons and you know his some of his runs the marathon were similar to Ellen so he was a really good runner and he just want to race he just want to race he won the loon mountain race he was the for his age category he he wanted so he was active and was a good biker he had just gone to France to do like a two-week bike tour there and he did he came back from that and and then unfortunately this is this this happened to him so coming on the heels of Joe was like oh my god yes well and Ken talking about the races I know this past week you had Dick Peralt on dick was on Wednesday you have to talk about the day of race come out which I've been promoting yes I do believe that Dick mentioned that and so that's on Wednesday August 28 that's right at New Hampshire Motor Speedway Wednesday yes and I know they're still looking for runners they're looking for community members or businesses for to contribute toward their raffle because they raise a lot of money for the raffle obviously to help fund the day a program so and such an important program I'm so glad it the rate I mean I liked it when when you all use the SCA course right I mean conquered but I think I think it's it's affection in most runners mind when you think of day or you think hot August around the racetrack right so I'm sort of glad it's back there yeah and I think at one point I did talk to a few people that were saying no we like going to that to be that's still in time we're at the Speedway that we get to actually stand right on you know on the speedway go around about three times yes yes well like me one and a half yeah Havana Havana did the one mile run last year I know that was amazing that really wasn't I really was and they're gonna have the kids race at 5 30 yep on the 28th of August are they gonna do the German Shepherd show - I do believe that they I think that's yeah the canine show yep good yeah and the motorcycle you said they have the motorcycles motorcycles are gonna be there dick confirm that the other day and and it'll be great and they have a great raffle too so chance to once a nice prizes area merchants golf and great pizza to afterwards they do you know Hannah Fords I think Hannah Fords they do a lot with the I think they contribute most of the food and everything so yeah they're always great partners with the the dare program and what I didn't mention was when we played let it snow we got carried away with Tom and Dino getting together but because you never thought that would happen but snowy is our license plate our vanity and sanity license plate of the week you only have a little over an hour left to call in okay and if it's you give us a call 6 0 3 2 2 4 14 50 or if you know that person also give the person who owns the plate give them a call and then they will get in touch with us correct yes and they'll be getting receiving what they do on oral change yes conventional oil change from my weak family on a motor but it's our old Ottawa look over yeah it's like an 18-point check or something I don't know how many points but something like that I do that 18-point check when I wake up in the morning make sure everything is okay take Christmas you know and I don't mean with all the gifts and everything but just be in the Christmas spirit right every day and as Tom pointed out very accurately earlier you know got to live every day to the fullest take advantage of of the time we have and so that's why we're celebrating today Christmas in July and what do you think I mean I know it's a little earlier than we normally do them but we got a lot to get in here birthdays birthdays that's right I have some big birthdays today have you have you kitty have you gotten over twiggy yet you know what Tom Raphael folks if we were on Facebook live today you see me pointing my finger at Tom right now that was not me that was J Doug yes that was not to me I have messed up I have messed up a lot and you caused the premature demise of Betty White that's true and I do not know that she gets a birthday she knew her birth it quite make it to a hundred because the kitty I remember exactly where we're talking we're at this new arena right we were watching the globe trotters one night yeah and two or three days later I know what happened but anyway we were you she Kenny was remarking on how healthy she looks and then she'll probably live to a hundred and then and then she didn't make it to even a hundred I know we just days later oh gosh you know talking about Betty White though you look back and look at the pictures up she was beautiful I think she was beautiful right up to the day you know she passed but just she was so beautiful she really was what that's what Alan Lubbins saw yeah yeah yeah yes he's has he gone to the big announcer yes yes he left as long before Betty but anyway she was very very beautiful and you know occasionally we watched them all their game shows and she's on them tell the truth and then Mary Tyler Moore she was really good and I'm not even gonna mention the name Mary Tyler Moore she's gone no Mary oh please so please you know what guys this is like really I just saw picture yeah because I don't want to mention anyone's again we did celebrate Richard Simmons birthday not too long ago did I get a writer so yes Mary Tyler Moore passed away January 25th 2017 she's been gone for a little while yeah well she died before her time Wow but big man like still yeah I just saw a picture of him and he can still dance to still dance he's so talented yes yeah so and any rate Helen Mirren who at one time I was like in every movie you want to yeah you're right you're right she was yeah she was like that other guy whom I think of that's had a stretch there for a couple of years we're almost every movie you want to this not the John Davidson from New Hampshire not he was up he was on Johnny Cox every day not him not him it's the guy Christopher Walken yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah right do I always say that when you mention Christopher Walken because that's that's what I think of immediately to was more I love that yes Saturday Night Live maybe we'll play that on the show someday although it's a better visual yes I mean you miss a lot if you don't have the visual of that well well maybe we should save it when we have Facebook live you know that we'd be good I was just trying to think of but what did he say he had a fever and the only cure was more cowbell oh hell in mirror how was Ellen well give Kitty Ray the first oh my gosh oh I'm not gonna say 88 she's like 82 80s she's like 82 I'm gonna say 82 think she's I think she's slightly younger than that so and I haven't heard of any usually when they passed like a decade thing so I will go likes I don't know 79 oh 79 it is to city here I come my gosh I swear no because if she was 80 right yes right there wouldn't there would have been a billion that's true I'm just I'm just taking my inner Peter St. James I saw Peter the other day by the way oh you did huh I think Peter St James didn't you have a crush on Helen Mirren or something I think he did I think at one time we were at a function and he was talking about Helen Mirren should have listened to him remember Peter's retirement and they were talking about the streaking story oh I do yes I do I do and then that but this is a family show and what's the consecutive years darling love song sang this song with David Letterman right before Christmas with David Letterman David let well David Letterman doesn't sing but she sang 28 straight years darling love up the crystals saying this song love the song it's a great song isn't it I didn't know she was connected with David Letterman now yeah for many years and you know you know this makes me think of David Letterman what one of the great documentary movies made of all time 20 feet from stardom one of the great documentaries I think ever ever and she's in it prominently just watch that again because I've seen it fantastic made me see it once or twice but I'd like to see it again it's fantastic so how old is darling love you looking at me yes I'm looking at you cuz talking about the last one okay and I will say this you know Andrew and I have been doing birthdays sometimes without you guys here I'm bad at it but wait a minute I can't have been dominating oh my god I know what they are so he has the screen yeah oh yeah he's like Charlie weaver he has he has been doing great he's been improving every day in fact he's being very very modest well they don't but the other the other day we had the J-Lo's birthday and he nailed it well it is closer to my generation darling love is closer to my oh geez 82 what did I say for the last one 82 I think she yeah I'm I'm gonna do the prices right just go 81 I don't think she's that old but 83 oh you want it all right yeah today yeah yeah I am I am happy for that one and nothing I know nothing says Christmas to me she in is she still Taylor the the drummer from Queen oh it's celery last year last week we talked about Ryan May and so this week it's Roger Roger Taylor who is 75 so here's oh all right let's go here we go we have one birthday left I can't get no satisfaction they're dancing in the studio folks dancing in their chairs I can't get no size to size change but I try but I try but I try but I try but I try everybody I
