So Katy Perry is teasing a new feminist anthem that she's releasing, titled "Women's World." And you know who it's pissing off the most? Feminists! Let's talk about it. ♪ Yeah, you better ♪ ♪ Yeah, you better ♪ ♪ Yeah, you better ♪ ♪ Yeah, you better ♪ Guys, before we get into today's video, please like and subscribe. You know I try to keep you up to date with everything that's happening in the realm of modern-day feminism. And today, we have an interesting conversation surrounding Katy Perry and her newest song that is yet to be released, "Women's World." She released about a 16-second teaser for this music video that's going to be coming out soon. And it's been pissing a lot of people off, most importantly, feminist. So let's watch it. And if you're wondering what's moving around in my lap, this is a wemby, our newest puppy. We're going to see if he's a fan of Katy Perry himself. Okay, let's watch! ♪ Celebrate ♪ ♪ We ain't going away ♪ ♪ It's a woman's world and you're left to be living in it ♪ All right, so there was so much just going on in that 15 seconds. Excuse me. We start off with a glamour shot of a bunch of Model-esque women, which interestingly people have a lot to say about. We'll get there in just a moment. Then we cut to Katy Perry being overwhelmed by these facial skincare rollers and then a close-up shot of her breasts, which of course screams feminism to us, doesn't it? I guess it does kind of scream modern-day feminism, and we'll break that down in just a moment. From there, we cut to Katy Perry and our backup dancers dressed up as sexy construction workers on a construction site, drinking whiskey, which screams womanhood to you, does it not? And the major tagline is, "It's a woman's world and you're lucky to be living in it." Now, why is a 15-second teaser pissing off the feminist community? Well, there's a multitude of reasons here. When we look at some of the tweets in response to this, we'll know exactly why. This first one says, "It's a woman's world and she only shows women with one body type." So we've already pissed off the body positivity community by showing all of these skinny, Model-esque women who are in their sexy construction worker outfits and dancing around. She should have had at least a plus-size model or two in this video to satiate their desires. Fact-phobia should make you uncomfortable because it is intertwined with every single other system of oppression that exists. Another person responded, "This is not feminism. This is poison." Katy Perry is clearly leaning into a view of feminine sexuality that seems to be catering to men. It's tantamount to those beer posters that some frat boys have on the walls in their apartment with the girl with her boobs outpouring beer on herself. Katy Perry is doing the same in a bikini in short shorts and dresses as a construction worker only instead of beer, it's whiskey. Another tweet says, "I'm sorry, but it's so obvious this song is going to flop. I'm crying." Or this feels like a Super Bowl commercial for a birth control that kills you. And there's some interesting things happening in this teaser. Of course, I'm not outraged or angered by it. If you're getting outraged or angered by a music video teaser, you should probably go outside, have some conversations with real people, touch some grass, and have a good time because you're doing it a little bit too much. But when I'm watching this, I'm reminded of sentiments that I sort of hold towards the trans community largely and specifically biological men who are taking on this caricature of womanhood. And that seems to be a little bit of what Katy Perry is doing here. It's skincare, it's a close up shot of the boobs, it's pretending in this performative activism way to be like a man with your construction worker sexy costume and pouring whiskey all over yourself. We all know that women are not construction workers for the most part. I think that occupation is actually in the ballpark of 90% male. We'll fact check that. And they're not drinking whiskey and pouring it all over their bikini-laden bodies, okay? It used to be a little bit avant-garde and edgy to depict women in this way and to take on your sexual liberation, as I guess they would call it. And now it's giving cornball, it's cheesy. Like I know somebody in her production department went and bought this at Hobby Lobby and thought they ate. You did not eat. In fact, you're starving. It also must be pointed out that she's dressed up as Rosie the Riveter who is this sort of significant feminist icon symbol for a woman who were put to work during World War II. And Katy Perry is choosing to do an homage to that by putting on an American sparkled bikini top short shorts that could only fit on one of my legs and dancing around and pouring liquor on herself. I think Rosie the Riveter is rolling in the grave. It's just such a tragic juxtaposition if you ask me to have these women who worked so hard in the era of World War II to support their nation and to really contribute to saving the world because they had to and because they wanted to. And now you have Katy Perry cosplaying them in this way. And the story goes a little bit deeper and maybe into a weirder territory with this next discovery as I was going down the rabbit home looking into this music video. Woman's World, this song, was produced by somebody named Dr. Luke. This is a man who Katy Perry works with presumably quite closely. And if you look into the history of Dr. Luke, he is linked to a story with the singer Kesha who accused him of rape and sexual assault. Now Kesha made this allegation against Dr. Luke in 2014 and this started a nine year legal battle between the two parties and it was recently settled out of court last year. And Kesha was largely drug through the mud throughout this whole process. You can imagine testifying against a large figure within the music industry is a tough thing to do on top of having to testify and relive what you allegedly went through. Now I don't know all the specifics in this case and I cannot give you a definitive answer on that. But it's very interesting to watch this sort of performative activism that Katy Perry is engaging in be produced by somebody who has these accusations against them. And you guys know that I am an innocent until proven guilty individual here and that's what I believe. So I'm not going to speak on whether or not he is innocent or guilty. But Katy Perry has been confronted about working with Dr. Luke to no answer. And even Kesha was recently asked about Katy Perry working with Dr. Luke. And here's how she responded. Kesha, I'm going to ask, listen Katy Perry working with Dr. Luke. People talking about it, right? And I wanted you kind of your opinion on it. Obviously you've got that history and no one's, you know, wanted your opinion on it. Is there anything that you can say? Kesha, nothing. Nothing's all right. So there you go. And I was thinking, okay, maybe these two things are unrelated and there's no particular slight to Kesha being made here. But Kesha put out an album titled "Gag Order" and she did this sort of photographic art display. And this was one of the exhibits. You see Kesha here lying next to a deflated version of herself. And this clearly seems to be symbolic of what she's gone through with the sexual assault and rape, allegedly. Now there are multiple teasers for Katy Perry's woman's world and here's another one of them and see if you see any similarities. I don't know, I could be reaching here, but that looks very similar to me. So on a song titled "The Woman's World" you play into these female stereotypes, you make this pseudo depiction of women as construction workers, and then you choose to slide somebody who is allegedly a rape victim by the man who produced your music. It's not exactly giving girls girl, is it? And that's really the underlying point here. A lot of people will take on this name of feminism and slap it onto something that in no way shape or form is supporting women or healthy for women or good for us at all. And that's why I personally do not label myself a feminist because I feel like it takes on a thousand different iterations, many of which I could never ever support. And quite frankly, if you're watching this Katy Perry music video, it's way more catered towards men than it is to any woman. What woman is watching this and thinking that this feels empowering or fulfilling to watch? I think men might love this, but for a very different reason. Actually, for two very distinct reasons. So Katy Perry, like the tweets say, I think this music video is definitely going to flop, and I can point to some reasons why. Loke feminists are watching this and thinking that you've most definitely missed the mark. I'm watching this, and other reasonable women are watching this, and thinking this is such a lame attempt to pander towards women in this idea of a woman's world. Men are watching this and thinking, "Ah, maybe I'll just skip to Pornhub or OnlyFans, she's sort of playing with me here." And I think a lot of people just in general are wondering, if this is meant to be a woman's anthem, why is it produced by a man who has that track record? And why are you, a fellow pop star, choosing to shade Kesha, an alleged victim of rape and sexual assault? We've ushered into weird territory. And who does that leave to like this music video?
