[Music] Good morning and welcome in to the Captain Jayhood Morning Show on ESPN 1000 and we are streaming on the ESPN Chicago app with David Kaplan Jonathan Hood with you on a bear's Victory Monday. Time for shot and no shot. Here's Shay Norland. Good morning boys on a Victory Monday. How are we feeling? Feeling great. We're good man. We've got a quarterback in this town. And his name is Caleb Williams. We've always had a quarterback in this town. No, we've never had a quarterback until now. We had somebody play the position as an imposter. I see. That's what we've got now. Just keep the kid up right now. Shout out to Jim McMahon. I would just say that I would just say, Cap, that this is a great start. You know, again, he wasn't a quarterback that was like, "Oh, my God." It was too big for the moment. I mean, Shay, it wasn't Stetson Bennett out there. It's a Georgia quarterback. Four interceptions. But Hoodie, don't worry. Stetson Bennett overcame four interceptions with a game-winning touchdown. Fourth. Four picks has to be a preseason record, right? That can't have possibly happened before. Four picks. Go, dogs. How is McVay not just like we're going to put a linebacker in a quarterback? Just hand the ball off. Like we got to get you out. It's so much better. That was so bad. But listen, I'm excited about the future, the present and the future. As Michael Jordan would tell you, the ceiling is the roof. That's it. Here it is. Shay Norling, Shay. Alright, well, I had an old thing written out for Shatter No Shot. I had a lot of great stuff to get to. But it's blown up now because Dan Levittard showed decided to put out a Twitter poll that shows just how much national media is losing cabin pressure over four of seven from Caleb Williams. Ready for this? Sure. Hashtag poll. Is Caleb Williams already a top five quarterback in Bears history? Shatter No Shot. It's a no shot. It's a no shot. Who put this out? Dan Levittard show. Yeah. Top five quarterback in Bears history, but there's Luckman. McMahon led you to Super Bowl. He's got to be there. Yeah. Shot. Wow. Yeah, I'd like to see him on the field first in the regular season game before I say that. So it's a no shot, obviously. And I think that question more than likely is tongue and cheek. And by the way, the whole thing is like he's a number one pick in the draft. So, of course, he's going to get a lot of attention, but it's a different type of attention cab. It's not. Let's see what he's going to do. It's Wow. Look at Caleb Williams and this new look Bears team. Yeah. It's the whole thing. The whole pack. It's a whole operation. Yeah. I'm good with that. I'm good with that. And I'm also good with my 4,000 yard projection. Stay healthy. It's common. Yep. Anything less than that, you're a failure kid, just so you know. I said that. No, I said that. I said it. And for clarification on this too, like fifth best quarterback in Bears history would be like backup quarterback, right? Like just if you're going relative to the rest of the league. Yeah. What do you have after Luckman Cutler and Kramer. Kramer and Miller. Luckman. Well, Jim McMahon. Super ball. So is that your 5? Luckman. Jay. Luckman. Jim McMahon. Yeah. Jay. Just say it. Jay. You have to say Jay. You have to. Jay Miller Miller. Just because he was a bully pole. You still have to admit. Who? Wait, who did you say? Miller and Eric Miller is not in the top 5. Yes. No shock. Caleb already better than Jim Miller. That's him. Breaking news. Yeah, that's a shot. Yes. Miller's not in the top 5. It's Luckman McMahon's. Cutler. Yeah. Who else? I just, I gave you my 5. Wait, you said Jim Miller. Who was the other one you said? Eric Kramer. Yeah. Kramer has the passing record. So I guess you'd stick him in there. I would not put Jim Miller there. I'd put Caleb there. Okay. I liked it. Never mind about the facts. Let's just put the kid in there before he even plays the regular season game. Poor Jim Miller. This guy hasn't taken a snap in the regular season already better than Jim Miller. Color analysts are in the preseason by the way. You can catch Jim and Adam and me on the TV side. Here's Shane Olin. Jim Miller only threw for 2000 yards one time. Yeah. That was a hell of a year. Passer rating of 74.9. Yeah. Now I'm good with my pick. Yep, he takes zero versus what Jim Miller brought to the table for the bear. Here's Shane Olin. Wow. All right. A lot of talk before the preseason game on Saturday. The offensive struggles at camp. Everybody said it was a slog. A lot of interceptions. A lot of rough procedural stuff going on. False starts. Bad snaps. All of it. Big slog for the offensive camp. What Saturday happens? And the bears get about eight yards a play in Caleb's snaps against Buffalo. The offense looked good. The operation was clean. Caleb looked the part. So shot or no shot. The struggles for the offense at training camp say more about the bears defense than it does the offense. Hmm. It says more about the defense than the offense. Well, the defense as shade just laid out has had the lion's share of the good moments this past camp this past week. I think the defense is pretty much set, right? I like what I see there. We saw was we still talk about the defensive line cap trying to get more of a pass rush, but secondary solid line backers are solid. Correct. So what would you say? I could understand where that defense that he's going up against every day is making life rough on him because it's an elite defense. Yeah, it is. It could be an elite secondary. Not an elite defense. Now, we know elite when we see a cap. Let's not do that. It's not an elite defense. I think the secondary can be elite. That's fair. You like Jalen Johnson, right? You like what they have in their secondary. Bless with good health. They should be able to shut down many teams. You mentioned to me earlier this summer about how Jalen Johnson might be the most important bear on the team. One, but two, there's going to be teams that don't want to throw on his side. You talked to we talked about this. We did. Okay. So line backers had no problem with the linebackers what they have, but the defensive line still needs to be able to have more of a push. We saw it toward the end of last season, can they replicate that or do more this season with what they have? I don't know that. So before we go there, let's take a look. Yeah, I like I like their linebackers. Their defensive backfield is loaded loaded. Sure. Got it's got more depth right in any position in on the team. Maybe the wide receiver room is right there with it because they got three studs up front. But as I look at this team, Caleb's clearly the most important player. But if you leave the quarterback to the side, Jalen Johnson's ability to shut down top receivers is a massive part of this team. So, Shay, if I said that says a lot about where the defense is, that would be a shot correct. Yeah, I would I would say so. Well, like we've talked about this the entire time, Shay, we've talked about how the defense is still the strength of the team. And so, for Caleb Williams, have to deal with whether or not Jalen Johnson's going to pick him off or not or Kevin Byard, the veteran free safety. I mean, that it's got to be difficult. He doesn't get knocked to the ground, but he picked off by Terry Stevenson. When he gets healthy, healthier, Kyler Gordon, he has veterans back there. You do. You got a really deep, good group, good linebackers that can run. I'm good, man. Strowman, Jalen Jones. It's pretty pretty strong. So, let's just see about the rest of it, though, the line. That's the question mark on the team for me. And Daniel Hardy. Oh, Daniel Hardy. Pretty good. Great. Great jewelry. I love that. Team, well, who do you brought up the line? Austin Booker continues to impress. Looks like a difference making past Russia in the preseason. The reports on a camp have all been glowing. I read Brad Biggs this morning. If you mention his name to an assistant coach at camp, they immediately smile. Just adhering the name Austin Booker. Had a highlight reel on Saturday constant. I mean, every snap, he was moving the left tackle backwards. Got two and a half sacks to go along with it. He's a pest in the backfield so far. Shot or no shot? I was right about Austin Booker. Would you like to answer on behalf of your radio son? Yeah, first take Shay. We've played, and again, Austin Booker was a fifth round pick. Not the number one overall pick like our quarterback who's been called generational. Let's just let this play out because Shay's too young to remember Mark Anderson. Ten sacks is a rookie and everyone went. Whoa, monster. That guy's a monster. I don't think he got ten the rest of his career. Yeah. So, yeah, no shot. Yeah, it's a no shot. Can we see in the regular season and how does he get into the rotation in the regular season? Big question. As we said in our number one cap, it is about if you're going to go to the regular season with what you have on the depth chart and you're going to rotate in Robinson and Booker and they can make, you know, try to get to the quarterback and pay dividends for you. That's a positive. That's for sure. So far, so good here in the preseason for Booker does, again, not overwhelmed at all. That's what I saw against Houston even better against Buffalo on Saturday. Shay Norley. Hey, Cody, maybe this is a better shot or no shot. He's making a case to start on the defensive line. Can he play nose tackle? No, he's an edge rusher. He is making a case to be the edge rusher opposite of Montez sweat. That's a no shot. Marcus Walker is a guy. Yep. And again, as a rookie, I don't need to see it yesterday. You like the Marcus Walker the day we signed him. Yeah. So again, Austin Booker has an opportunity to be able to be a rotation guy on one of the ends. Does it have to be yesterday? Does that be today? But this season, I look forward to him being able to pay some dividends for the defense because they need everybody. It's not a dominant defensive line yet. Hopefully Booker can help. That's what we call perspective. That's because it's a rookie. Correct. After two preseason games, correct. We got a diamond in a rough in the fifth round with Braxton Jones. Hopefully that will be the case with Austin Booker. That's the hope. Shane Orley. All right. When I asked about Vailas Jones getting some work at running back in the Bears game against Buffalo, that switch now seems official. Matt Eberflu said they're going to continue to evaluate it week to week. But he is a running back now. Vailas got six carries for 34 yards and a touchdown. This is the Cordaro Patterson flip where you can't run routes. You stink as a receiver. But you're pretty effective with the ball in your hand. We just have to get it to you. Shot or no shot. Vailas Jones at running back makes it more likely. Khalil Herbert will be traded. Shot. If they can get draft capital for Khalil Herbert, shot. Shot. I saw him out there, Jones. You look good. Now touchdown run around the left edge. That's pretty good speed, man. Turn that quarter, boom, into the end zone. Nice. Folks, let me explain to you what's happening here. Folks, at the dinner table, sitting down, trying to figure out how to be able to put the bills together, trying to figure out what are you going to do for the week. Folks, let me just tell you about this Vailas Jones. This is a general manager that is making sure that he's right about a player. Cap, we've seen Vailas Jones be substandard so far as a Chicago bear. Is that a fair word to use? Substandard. Subpar would be better, but I can co-sign you. Well, what's your standard? My standard is for him to be able to utilize that speed and get up the field. That's my standard. This is a general manager that doesn't want to be wrong about this third round pick. God bless him. He shouldn't want to be wrong. If he saw something, before we let this guy go, we better try everything and make sure, because I don't want to see him, someone else's uniform going, why didn't we do that? Vailas, this whole thing of the running back style working, can you back pedal? We need an extra corner. He's just going to have him all over the field, just to keep him on the roster. He doesn't want to be wrong about him, Cap. I just hope that he can help the bears. If that's the amount of play that they have for him, hopefully this will work. I would say that that is a shot. If it works out with Vailas Jones with this running back play, Khalil Herbert would be expendable on the roster. I would agree with you. But it's got to work, Gil Cap. Is he not a special teams guy? He's not a wide receiver, but he's going to be in these Patterson plays. Don't let that be the reason why the bears lose, because he gets soft hands or something. Don't let it, I will hit the roof, because I didn't like to pick at the time, as you will know. You did not. So, okay. You know he's fast, and you're just trying to utilize him the best you can. Hopefully it works. They asked him, Larry Mayer, our guy from Bears.CuggleBears.com. Yes. Great dude. He said, God bless me with speed, size, and physicality, so why not? Jones said, the Chicago Bears.com reported Larry Mayer. Anything to help this team out, increase value. Okay. Let's go. Let's go then. Let's go mate. All right. She's got around the NFL. Don't forget Jesse Rogers, the latest on the Cubs and the White Sox and everything else. MLB at 835. What are you waving me off for? She go ahead and tell us. Go Jesse today. Jesse is on an ATV in Northern Wisconsin. Okay. Jesse is on vacay. Okay. Much deserved, but I'll be more than ready for you because three games back here. They come. So, at 835 Cubs colon, real hope or false hope, we'll break that down coming up at 835. Captain Jay Hood weekday morning, seven to 10. Welcome back. Welcome. Welcome back to Captain Jay Hood on Chicago's hombre sports, ESPN Chicago. He's both sucks. He sucks. I'm just a fan. I'm not a football about here. I love the Green Bay Packers. The guy is wrong, but there he goes. This is not Detroit, man. This is the Super Bowl. I love winning. He starts to come and he cool. This is a really thickly built guy. I mean, what's the answer you're looking for on these things here? It's now time to go around the NFL right here on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. We'll have green at 10, followed by a black and a doll and for Carmine Yerko at 12. Waddle and Sylvian to White Sox baseball at 6.30. Around the NFL, here's Shane Orling. All right, Rudy, pre-show you asked me if I had a theme or if it was just the kind of reaction to some of the stuff we saw over the weekend. Yes, sir. I didn't have a theme and then, of course, as I'm organizing my thoughts, a theme jumps out to me. Okay. So, today is going to be the don't be surprised if X happens based on what we saw over the weekend. It's not a list. It's a collection of items. Okay. Got it. So, starting with this, do not be surprised if Bonix is the second best quarterback out of this draft in year one. I'm not saying he's going to be the second best quarterback out of this draft for all time. Mm-hmm. But year one, we're looking at a guy who was excellent for the Broncos in the preseason opener. Led five drives, they scored on four of them. He was efficient, just based on the sheer volume of football that has been played. This guy set a record in college. More college football starts than any other quarterback, I believe, in history. He was great at Oregon. He's learned the game. Now he's in Denver with Sean Payton. Year one just kind of feels like he's going to have a lot of opportunity, second to Caleb Williams and Jaden Daniels, and he feels more polished than Jaden Daniels right now. Year one only, I think Bonix could jump off the page a little bit. What do you think of that? I mean, Bonix is about as 34, he's married, got four kids in a mortgage, so Bonix probably had a lot of the young quarterbacks. Yeah, I saw his grandson on the game. 34, 30 victory for the Broncos over the Colts. Yeah, I'm not going to cosign that he'll be, what was your term, the second best quarterback? Year one rookie. Year one rookie. Yeah, I'm not going to cosign that as, but as Shane eloquently laid out, all the experience of Bonix had in college, like he sets them up perfectly. He's 24. No, not. And he's got a great quarterback tutor in Sean Payton. Why do we do that in college football, Shay, into the NFL, but we don't do that in college basketball? Like if you're, if you're over 20, you're washed, 21 for your guy, a buddy of mine said to me. Patrick Williams, he's old, he's been around for, I'm like, oh, he's 22. He is. Yeah. Yeah, college basketball's different, man. If you're a four year college basketball player, you're probably not an NBA player. Unless you're like Zach Edie. Shut up to Denzel Valentine. Or Tim, you know, you're like, well, you've been, but Bonix, I saw he goes to sideline. Most guys get Gatorade. He's got his little vitamin thing, the case Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. He just pops that open, depending on the day of the week. Brandon IU, if the news keeps getting stranger and stranger, don't be surprised if Brandon IU is just a 49er this season. Oh, it sounds like they're back negotiating hard and they're going to get something done. This whole power play ended up working for him. It's one thing to demand a trade because you want money. It is a totally different thing to then veto two trades that would have made you among the highest paid players, wide receivers in the NFL. He never wanted to leave. He just wanted to be paid in San Francisco. And that's not happening. You know, they'll pay them. I mean, they're back negotiating. You don't go back to the table if you don't want to get something done. Well, Cap, every organization's not like the Chicago Bears. They take care of their players, you know. Yeah, just wait till they start winning and every guy's at the window. Yeah, where's mine? No. Hey, now every team has the class of the Chicago Bears in care of DJ Moore on the first episode of Hard Knocks while he's standing there in practice. Hey, go back down there. You get signed? Everything's good? All right. You can go back down there. And then who's the first guy they show them talking to? Where you go? It was Nate Davis. He's like, I just signed it. What? That's crazy. That was awesome. He goes, one less thing I have to worry about. I watched the episode again. My wife's like, can we watch this Hard Knocks? I want to see this. All of a sudden, she's like, when's the second one? Oh, now you're coming around, huh? Because it's more than just the, you know, the meat and potatoes that we talk about every day. It's the stories. It is. It's the connection of the stories. That's why Peacock was watching the first one with me. She said, what time's it on? I'll close the laptop at eight. We'll watch. Yeah. Okay. I'm going to watch. Yeah. Ready? Good, kid. Who's Shane Orley? On the topic of the 49ers, again, I'm not making a prediction, but I'm starting to get a little nervous. Don't be surprised if this 49ers season ends up being a disappointment. I am past the point of curious if they're going to remain dominant and at the point of genuine concern. They canceled their joint practices with the Saints this week. I know most people are like, oh, who cares? Iron Dan Campbell last week said that the players get more work done in the joint practices than they do in the preseason games. They find these to be more valuable. Why did the Niners cancel their joint practice with the Saints? They had 23 players missing from their most recent practice for various reasons. Shanahan got on the phone with Dennis Allen said he doesn't think he will have the players available to hold a joint practice. Their injury concerns are bad. They have off field stuff with IU, can trim Williams. I'm starting to get genuinely concerned that this thing could go south. Can they also cancel their game on the A-taping as a Saints? Sorry, we don't have enough players. Let's just shut this down on Fox. No. Test pattern. The league would say. Absolutely not. Because, right, Shane, no practice, but at some point you've got to feel the team. You've got to feel the team. Yeah. When you're down 23 guys and you're the Niners who have invested so much in their first team that their depth is abysmal, you can't afford to lose any of it. So you're down 23. You can't take on the physicality of a joint practice. If somebody gets hurt, you're really in trouble. Watch your wide receiver cap. They're number one pick. Ricky Pearsaw. Pearsaw. Watch him. Watch him now, Harry. Pearsaw is going to be out there. Why is he from Florida? Watch him now. Jimmy's grandson, I think. Probably so. The Niners, do they have Trent Williams? Is he not in camp? Is he going to do it? Is he a hold-in or a hold-out? Let me double check. I think it was a hold-out, but I'm going to double check it. Why don't you ask? Because everybody out of the ass, I was asking Big Cat Williams the other day, he said, "I don't care how veteran you are. You need your reps in training camp to get yourself, as the good kid says, you've got to get in football shape. You can come in in the best cardio and strong in the gym. You've got to beat your body broken down to build it back up for football. Big Cat said the same exact thing. If you're in a offensive lineman and you're sitting out, you are not going to be ready to play football week after week, you're not." Yeah, Trent Williams is a hold-out. Shay, I would like for you to bookmark a question for us late August or early September. Based on what you told us about the point and how you feel about the 49ers today, it probably will change in a couple of weeks because they'll get healthier. But the question I'd like for you to ask in shot or no shot or around the NFL is whether or not the 49ers' championship window has closed, not closing has closed. Let's take a look at what that looks like. Let's take a look. And they have to pay Brock Purdy coming up. Next year, and Bill Barnwell says $65 million. I think they'd let him walk at that price. The narrative is that, well, it's Shanahan, so it'll always be open. That's not the case for everybody. That's not true. All the glitters is not gold, Cap. I look at the 49ers, good coach, good weapons, who doesn't like McCaffrey, who doesn't like their defense, but it doesn't mean they're championship material. That's kind of what he's bringing up. We'll see. Right. Big situation, the Trent Williams situation, he had all these other guys banged up injured. Yeah. Let's take a look. 100%, but $65 million for Brock Purdy? No shot. Yeah, that Trent Williams situation, too, like you talked about not being ready, there is the, like, the reason he's holding out is not because he doesn't have a contract. He signed for, I think, three more seasons. The problem is none of the money in any of the seasons is guaranteed. So if he goes out and camp and sustains an injury, Niners can wash their hands of him and he gets nothing, and he's at an age where, sorry, you're just not going to pick that up on the free agent market off of an injury. Can you sneak in one more before we talk Cubs? Yeah, because, look, we talked last week on Friday about the Russell Wilson Justin Fields battle and my feeling at the time in that locker room, the way we were hearing things out of Pittsburgh, Justin Fields had a genuine opportunity to win that battle. I don't be surprised if there just isn't a battle. It was more of the same from Justin Fields on Friday night against Houston. It was five to six for 67 yards. The passes he got off looked okay, but fumbled two snaps, two snaps fumbled and had to recover them and got sacked twice. It's just, he's the same guy he's always been. It doesn't look like there was any growth or any change from what he was at the end here. And Russell Wilson probably will be their starter. Yeah, you know what, Cap, this wouldn't happen if sales wouldn't have fumbled the ball on our idea to broadcast a couple of shows from Latrobe to get fields ready for the season. Right. He would have sat down with us. That's right. Got him ready like, look, man, we need you to be in 51% of these snaps. We need you to be able to take this, take the bull by the horns here. We need the fourth round pick. Let's go. It would have been nice. First question would have been, why were you out on me in November wanting Caleb Williams? Because you're not very good. You weren't good, but now we've turned the pitch. That's what would happen. We just want the fourth round pick. So that's, that's what it would be. We would be there to encourage him for live with my tablet. That's what would have happened. Like right there at Latrobe, but sales dropped the ball on that. We should have been you and I to encourage fields. Ah, that would have been great. That would have been awesome. You know you're the starter, right? You know you're the starter. That's what would have happened. It all sucks. All right, Shay, we're going to talk Cubs. A real hope or false hope. Still alive. Freeback. Here we come. Or Ryan's hope. We'll talk about it coming up next on the Captain Jay Hood morning show. If you missed something, get the podcast on the ESPN Chicago app. Captain Jay Hood are back on Chicago's home for sports, ESPN Chicago. Captain Jay Hood on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. Don't forget to go to our YouTube as well, YouTube.com. Look for ESPN Chicago. Hit that subscribe button. That way you missed nothing from ESPN Chicago on YouTube. Jesse Rogers will not be with us, but it doesn't mean we can't fill the bill with baseball talk. Jesse, and his reports with us brought to you by West Coast men's health, helping men with ED and chronic pain for over five years. So here we go. Capital. He's not on the high. Oh, he's not. He's on an ATV up in West County. Okay. For us to have it. So here's here's my part. Can I just go pull the curtain back? I think the audience already knows, but sometimes with our new audience, they just need to know that this jackaloon to my right here has said many times their cook kid. They're done kid. Trade people unplug this thing. That'll be all for the cub. I didn't say the trade part, but I did say they were cooked. There's nothing much to trade. They moved lighter. All right. Whatever. You don't want me to pull this up. What are you saying that you want to do? I said to blow it up, they really don't have a lot to do that. And I mean, I think I went around the diamond. Nobody wants your catchers, although Amaya is starting to play better. You're not trading Bush. What are you getting for Nico Horner in his 685 OPS? You taking a dance piece contract on our heads? Have at it. No one would do that. They moved Morrell. And they got Paredis. Nice move. He and half is a no trade. Saya has a no trade. You're not moving Cody because no one's taking all the money, and you're not trading Pete Crow. So they traded their one best reliever, and the bullpen actually has gotten better. Yes, Cap. However, you pushed your chips in the middle of the table and gave up on the team. I did. And the season. I did. Because somehow, some way you thought the season was 130 games, 120 game season. It's 162 for a reason and you get a chance to battle. My prediction before the season, your prediction before the season is the Cubs should be able you play off team. This morning, they're 59 and 60. They swept the Wobgan Chicago White Sox quality team, maybe. And who doesn't? Then you were able to beat the twins two out of three. It will beat the Cardinals three out of four and now look at you. Look at you now. Here we come. Let's go. So what does that mean? It means that you go to work tonight one batter, one pitch, one out at a time with Shota Imanaga against Blake Lively. In Cleveland. Yes. Mm hmm. That's correct. Is that his first name? I know a lively. Her name is Blake. I don't think Blake Lively is starting for Cleveland. Lively is whatever his name. It's Ben Lively. I don't believe it's Blake Lively. I couldn't think of who it was. I would play. Blake Lively is pitching for the Guardians. I'm going to be watching the game very closely. Me too. Ben Lively. I'm buttoning another button on that jersey. Oh, come on. So look, they're hanging in there. They are grinding. They're battling. Dansby's hitting the ball better. Parade has hit a couple of bombs. The other night they jumped Garrett Crochet. Holy smokes. Cheese. Four home runs. They took him deep. Two in the first inning. Here we go. And then they had to hang on for dear life. Socks came roaring back. Seven, six, final. And then yesterday Amaya comes through with the big hit, the game winner in the eight. Yeah. Let's not talk about that series. We'll try to keep listeners. Wow. Here on the home of the White Sox, ESPN 1000. So they're alive and you look at their schedule. Let me bring it up. They have one of the more favorable schedules. And again, that means nothing because good pitching stops. Good hitting. They're dead, kid. They're dead. They're dead. This is on you. I did say that. I did. But guess what? They go Imanaga, Assad, your guy, and Ty on on Wednesday. Let's see how they do tonight. Get a cup of coffee, find a way to win a baseball game. That's it. That's the mantra every day. Quite frankly, I don't think you're allowed back in the bandwagon. I never leave the bandwagon. I just was not encouraged about how we were going to play the rest of the way. You're not allowed. The way you put the bad mouth in this team. I mean, this person here also put the bad mouth on. No shot. She looks like a diehard cup fan. Don't think so. You look at what they've got left on the schedule. Still alive, kid. Just yelling. This yelling still alive doesn't say anything about the ball. Three at the Guardians. Then you come home and you get. You get the blue jay. So long. You get the blue jay here for three Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Get a much needed day off on Thursday. And then you get the tiger here for three. You go to the Marlin for three. You get the pirate at the pirate for three at the national for three. Home with the pirate. Home with the Yankee. That'll be a tough one. At the Dodger, at the Rockies. Home with the A's, the Nationals, the Phillies and the Reds to close her out. That's it. The analysis there. So you got to look at that schedule. OK. All right. It goes very, very favorable. Again, you got to win. But you got a chance here, favorable based on what the momentum, all those teams that are under 500. You know that you've struggled here and there. It's been an up and down season. Start to come together, kid. OK. What about when they were dead when you had them dead and buried? Is there a resurrection that you've been able to revive? You haven't even mentioned the owl at all. Owl not a factor, apparently. Nope. The owl is resting. But let me tell you something. As I told you last week, the movie Rocky II, when Adrian's in the coma. One thing I want you to do for me. What? Come here. What? Win. What do we wait for, honey? Let's go. We're alive. 59 and 60. Let's go to work. Such an old musty clip. God Almighty. What percentage of the listening audience has seen that movie? Just an old musty clip. You know what? I'll give a fly rip if they see it. Hello, sports radio, we just did the God Almighty. You used that? Come here. Win. Win. What are we waiting for? God Almighty. What do we wait for? Let's go. Let's go. I'm actually nervous for tonight's game. Just old and musty. That's nervous. Just awful. Grab a cup of coffee. Find a way to win a damn baseball game. That's the motivation. A dying woman. We... She was a dying. She was back. She was out of it. She was out of it. She was on the way. At least that was my hope. She was on Perka set. She didn't know what she was saying. Back. Back. She was... The ceiling was moving all over the place. The walls were breathing. She didn't know what was going on. You realized over the last six weeks the best bullpen in baseball is the Cubs. Yes. Yes. Let's go. Yeah. That's not the impressive part. What is impressive is that the offense has come together. It has. What I've been telling you for months is that what the need is for this Cubs team is to be able to hit the baseball. And they've been able to put runs up where they can run away from teams. That's been the issue with the ball club. No. Twenty one blown saves is what the issue was. The offense has been there before. I feel like the annoying Miller Lite commercial that the guy says it's both. It's both. Because it's both. Fair enough. It's both. Fair enough. When you under achieve, it's both. It's both. It's both. It's less filling and it tastes great. It's both. It's for the support. Yeah. It's both. So. Still alive, kid. Still alive. It's not analysis. Still alive is not analysis in that old musty clip of doing sports radio 19. Kids, if you want to know what sports radio sounded like in '93. It's a young childhood going to the blockbuster video, if you believe that, to be able to rent videos. I need this clip from Rocky where the lady's in that bed and she says, "win." Okay. Put it on there. Put it on the reel, the reel. Dry erase board pen. Put it together. And then you put this on in '93. One thing I want you to do for me. Win. Oh. Oh. Wait, wait. Take this. Ah. It gets my butt going. That's a purchase mirror. Then we waiting for her. Let's go. Oh, man. Yes. Awful. Dude. Let's go. Okay, Caput. I mean, again, you've got to be able to go through this juggernaut. What you like is the momentum. And some would say, "Oh, it's just the White Sox." Oh, it's just... You have to just continue to win ball games, but you still have a mountain to climb as you well know. Agree, but you're three games back all of a sudden. Three. Oh. Just keep stacking them. Let's go. Ryan's your foot if I'm plugged this. You have to be crazy. You believe that we can be able to get past the Cleveland ball club. We're going to just trade people. Give us a chance, Jerry. Nope. Nope. Name the reporter he said that quote to. Is it Mark Silverman? Tony Genetti. Tony Genetti. Yep. Wow. Arizona, San Diego, my Padres, been up and down all season, starting to get some momentum now. The Met, the Cardinal, the Giant. That's what you've got to overcome. We can do it. Okay? We can do it. You're just as average as the rest of those teams, eventually. Just as average as the rest. Start to play better. Except the Cubs have the momentum now that they're plus 10 and run differential. They're on the way. So if they win, I'll be right. I'd like to see some postseason bait. I'd like to see the lights on at Riggly in October. It would be so cool. Let's go. Why do you want to get there? Because you get in there. Anything can happen. Anything can happen. That's true. What does Jim Bowdoin tell us? He said, if you get in with your starting pitching, he said, you can wake up and go, how did we get here? Because you got really good starting pitching. And the bullpen's pitching much better. And the offense, you know, looks really good at the plate. Pete Crow Armstrong, like, wow. I would just tell you this without, without kidding with you, because the Braves are out of it to me. They're just not the same ball club injuries. Decimated. Aussie albies. They lost Ronald, the Koonja junior. They lost their number one starter, Spencer Strider. Yeah. They're just banged up because the Braves are not really in it cap. They'll be in it. But they're not in it. You know, if you know what I'm saying, it makes the nationally wide open to me. Even my Padres, I've been watching a momentum now, but they've been up and down there. Beatable. Arizona seems very strong at the top of that heap. But the Dodgers, but the rest of it though, the wild card teams, the Cubs can be able to be in that mix if they stay alive. If they stay alive, keep playing good baseball. Let's go. Is cap allowed back on the bandwagon after bearing the Cubs? 3 1 2 3 3 2 ESPN, 3 3 2 3 7 7 6, Chris just tweeted as Chris Nardi, hey at the catman, can I sneak back on the Cubs train with you? Yes. Oh, we will jump freight cars if we have that's not back. You heard this guy. Barry. I'm Shay. Was that just me? Listen, you're going to have to hide from the conductor on this train. Three days. It'll be like when you try to hitch a free ride on Metro, and you're just jumping car to car. Hope you don't get kicked off. Yeah. Let's go like a hobo jumping on with your, your, your, your satula clothes. That's what you are trying to jump back on this bandwagon. You were, you had them buried. I watch the recaps. I know. I watch. 3 1 2 3 3 2 ESPN is our, you need to commentary is strong here. Oh man. When this guy here to my right can just let the language fly, even the dogs go hiding. Is capital out back at the bandwagon? Damn right. I am. I've been out of my whole life on the cap and jhood boarding show. You can do it. You can do it all night long. You're listening to Captain Jhood, follow the show on Instagram @thecatman and at IGJhood. This is ESPN Chicago, Chicago's home for sports. We'll talk bears and Caleb Williams coming up at nine o'clock right here on cap and Jhood. If you get a chance to watch the game, listen to it right here on the home of the bears, ESPN 1000. Cap and I will take your phone calls 3 1 2 3 3 2 ESPN, 3 3 2 3 7 7 6 is our telephone number. You know, Cap, I think that the bear, I think the white Sox, they have found their manager for me. Size more with a pulse up, clapping, getting guys going. That doesn't mean anything for the one lost record in the way the ball club is, but it's good to see some life from a young manager like size more over there. I did not understand, I think it was Friday's game, correct me if I'm wrong. So they get man on in the in the ninth, yes, Friday's game. Mm hmm. Okay. They get the bunt hit to put first and second on. Why would you not have Nikki Lopez bunt to get him to second and third? That's an old American league guy swing away. It's an old Cleveland Indian. If you told me you had Paul Kenerko coming up, all right, let him swing. Yeah, it's Nikki Lopez though. And I'm pretty sure it was Nikki Lopez and I did not understand that lack of strategy. That really surprised me. Swing away, Cap. That was the deal. And by the way, Shay, I'll say this to a hole in the schedule. I know the Sox aren't going anywhere that they have 90 losses before we hit September. The idea that they there's no Cubs or no White Sox on yesterday is nonsense. What is the city afraid of? Yeah, that was their share of fights. There was a lot on the concourse on Instagram city. That was major league baseball. No, under, understand the point that to me, I think that there are some that are afraid of having the three game series for whatever reason. Why? Why can't you just have a three game series like everybody else before game? It's just them because interleague everybody plays each other. I don't think they are allowing. I think it changes next year to two three game series, but the schedule makers weren't doing more than four games for the interleague teams because you all play everybody in the league now. So it's a four game max. So for Cubs and White Sox, they just split them to each. I don't like it. I don't either. I like three and three. Just play all three. Is there an issue with this? There's an issue with security. There was a lot of fights. I don't know if you saw this, but it's nonsense, but this was Shay's right. It is about scheduling. They have X number of games that get dedicated to interleague play because you're playing everybody now. And so they only could fit. This happened multiple times where you can only fit two games in. Unfortunately, it happened on a weekend, so you get a Sunday off.
