In a group that went down to the final few minutes, the Nthacile's top spot in group D of the Kerry Petroleum Company intermediate football championship with a hard hard win over Guinea Guilla, helped again for the third week in a row by late goal. The home site, stung by a disciplined performance against Kalarny Lage in the week before, came out fast with aggressive discipline, battling and moving the ball at speed. Early Pines and Padiolire, John O'Leary and Podrick Dile were a reward for their dominance. Greenroaches, fine-pied from Gamplask was their only reply. Tommy Bowler then kicked a brilliant free from near the sideline. Guinea Guilla though, then got a well-worked goal, a quickly taken free from Shano Keith, Phone Dile, who moved the ball onto Shane O'Sullivan, who made no mistake with a well-taken finish. Gamplask needed a lift, and Emmet Finnen was the man to deliver it. Running onto Tommy Bowler's hampas, he hammered in a brilliant shot to the corner of the net. Another fast Guinea Guilla move, ended with O'Keefe firing all from close in. Bowler's late free kept Emplask but didn't forward the break after playing against the strong breeze. Jeff Vodunho narrowed the gap further, but then outside of the foot finish after a super dummy. But Jamie Maynan pouring into the game, and Dile wrote Jackritt from freeze, and let's continue to push closer. Roch didn't kick the superb point from out wide with his left foot. O'Sullivan got Guinea Guilla's first point of the half before Maynan saw his goal call back for picking the ball at the ground. As Guinea Guilla pushed on, space was created up front, and Caleb Cronin took advantage of the extra and were two back-to-back points. For more Maynan's long kick out, Cronin was set free once more, and took his chance, getting the ball first and rolling into the net after ground. With Legion beating in St. Mary's, Gamplask knew he needed a leash to draw while Guinea Guilla now had to go all out for the win. Two Ole'ry points, plus another one for more Sullivan, brought the deficit back to two. Time ran out for Guinea Guilla, and he left sealed home advantage over the quarterfinals. It's now got football from no one, so expect some dramatic matches over the next few weeks. Thanks for listening and good luck.
