(upbeat music) - Good morning, Chicago. And welcome in to the Captain Jay Good morning show on ESPN 1000. And we're streaming on the ESPN Chicago app with David Kaplan, Jonathan Hood with you. We've got Shane Orling, we've got Jay Moore. We've got you for a three hour ride. Here on this Tuesday morning with open phone lines for you at 312-332-ESPN. 332-3776 is our telephone number. You can watch the show on YouTube, YouTube.com. Look for the ESPN Chicago channel as well as on Twitch. Twitch.tv/ESPN1000Chicago. We're getting ready for the Bears and the Bengals. That'll be the third preseason game for the Bears. Of course, you can hear every Chicago Bears game right here on the home of the Bears. ESPN 1000 and also on the ESPN Chicago app. And so, Cap, I think in all walks of our sports fandom, there is a balance. Nothing's ever the very worst we've ever seen unless you're Pedro Graffall. Nothing is the greatest that we've ever seen, like a Cubs or a White Sox World Series Championship or a Bears Super Bowl Championship. There's always nuance to me. And I like to not necessarily be in the gray with everything, but here's the thing, Caleb Williams plays his first game. And the nation's wild by what they saw. And you know why they were wild by it? It's because Caleb Williams in his first outing as Bears quarterback did not wet his pants. That's the reason why, Cap. He didn't wet himself. What he was, is a guy that was just steady in the pocket, was great on play action, was able to connect to his receivers. They ran their football well for the limited time they used out there. What we saw there, Cap, to me, should scratch the surface of what Caleb and this offense can do. It was only a small sample size. Is a cut of steak, the gray steak you ever had? No. You have to have more than a bite to know if it's the greatest steak you ever had. I want more bites at the steak to know what we're getting. - Okay, I agree with you on the second half, vehemently disagree with you on your opening statement where you said he didn't wet his pants. No. Mitch Trabisky in his preseason debut didn't wet his pants. Everyone went long. It actually looks pretty decent. And Justin Fields. Oh, wow. Last year in his preseason debut. It actually looked pretty good. I think he had a couple touchdowns. Caleb looked the part of an NFL quarterback. He was more than what you had said. He looked up, you're like, wow. Guy going through his progressions? Haven't seen that in a bear's quarterback. Wow, the throw to command. Wow, the throw to DJ Mo. Wow, he knew when to run. And who wasn't hoodie that we played yesterday who said he didn't run to run like Justin would be gone? He said he ran because he set it up with his eyes. And then he took off when the window to throw closed. He said it was a totally different mindset. But he needs to go out and he needs to play again. I agree with what you said at the beginning of our show for those that weren't listening. If Zach Taylor doesn't want to play Joe Burrow and his starters, good for Zach Taylor. Joe Burrows accomplished a whole lot more than Caleb Williams has in the National Football League. So that's fine. You don't want to play your guys? Have at it, play Jake Browning or whoever you're going to play. I need to play my starter for at least what he did last week and possibly 30 plays. I'll refine the point. The point is, is that when he was out there, Cap, he was not overwhelmed by the moment, meaning that he was able to do exactly, for the most part, did exactly what was asked to connect to his receivers, to be able to be in play action. And again, it's just a small sample size. Now, of course, what we saw there, we expect a lot more. Like, those plays have to be that times 10 for the Bears, they'd be a successful offense. It's going to be more than that. But here's the thing. I won't go as far as Yurko saying it was a solid B minus C. It wasn't that. It was much better than that. Yes. But what I'm saying is, is that from everyone that's over the top about Caleb Williams, well, my god, man, he's got to play four quarters. He takes on some of the toughest defenses in the league. It's more than this. I'm glad that he was good for the amount of time that we saw. But of course, there's room for a lot more. What happens when he takes on a strong defense? Is he getting after his ass? Does he have the ability to scramble out of it, throw it out of bounds, or will he get sacked? When you are a rookie quarterback, again, we haven't-- we've been in this rodeo before. When you are rookie at any position in the NFL, including quarterback, you're going to go through some growing pains. You're going to go through it. No doubt. So that's all I'm saying. There is nuance in all of it. It's not the greatest thing we've ever seen. It's not the worst thing we've ever seen. It was very solid and productive. Didn't get the touchdown. You want it. But you were able to have two drives that were encouraging. That's fair. Yes. It was very, very impressive. Now take the next step. You've got to play. I need you on the football field. You know, Shea was saying after a break to us, god, you'd hate to hear Braxton Jones got rolled up on by some fourth string DN, who's going to be working at Costco in two weeks. That's part of the game, man. That is-- you've got to be in football. So what kind of seat comes in here? They're coming in to eat, too. Yes. Jeffrey Simmons is a monster. There is no do-over. You can't get to 3.30 on Sunday afternoon, September the 8th, I think it is, and go, oh, god. We lost to the Titans? No. There is no scenario. You can lose that game. You've got to beat them in your building. Your favorite? Come on. Yeah, you know, the one thing I don't do as a football fan, I don't clutch my pearls, and I don't bite my nails about injuries. Yeah, you want your team to be fully healthy, as healthy as possible. But we go in cap knowing that we're seeing a series of car wrecks every single game. Correct? Anything could happen. You just hope that on the other side that your team's healthier than the other ones, because it's a physical sport, after all. We saw last year your contacts around the Broncos told you Ross put the baseball hat around and Sean Payton went, what are you doing? I'm done, right? No, get out there. More. I don't like what I've seen. More. Free season. I need to see more, too. I need Caleb out there. I think, for me, it's not a fear of injury. It's just like the risk will reward kind of thing. Like, I understand, if you don't play your starters for extended periods in the preseason, you are running the risk that week one, week two, you might have a few more procedural penalties than you would typically have. The timing might be a little off. But if starters will be there. But you will have your starters. If you play your starters in the preseason, your reward is you might be a little more finely tuned than the other team. I don't know if that outweighs the risk, like, is 20 snaps going to be the difference between beating Tennessee and not beating Tennessee? Maybe. If it is, then I don't know that you were good enough to beat Tennessee week one in the first place. Not sure that's fair, because he needs to be able-- Like, he's calling a totally different offense. He did not do the things he's being asked to do in the NFL at USC. Lincoln Riley orchestrated everything. But so he needs that work. Should Jameer Gibbs of the Lions not practice yesterday? Well, we're good. He's a great player. Now he's got a hamstring in it. No, and I get that. There's always the risk, even in camp, the joint practices, all of that. I'm just the extra game time when you're going against-- like, Albert Breer was just saying. It's not guys who are just worried about being healthy when the season starts. The Bengals this weekend are resting their starters. You're going against guys who are trying to make a team. I don't want Caleb Williams to get hit by anybody. I certainly don't want some guy just trying to get on the team, rolling up on a tackle. That kind of opportunity cost does concern me. It's not a fear. It's just-- is it really worth running the ones against guys who are going to be going all out to make a team? For a quarter? Yes. Yes, absolutely. Absolutely. 100%. I need two drives. At least. That's fine. Whatever happens happens. You just hope that it's as positive as it was against Buffalo. That's all. But we've got to get away in the NFL from these guys who are just sitting out for three preseason games, and when the bell rings, it's fine. And what happens, Shay? We get on the couch. We're watching football. And you know the teams are ready. And the teams are just struggling to score. Struggling to score. That's 6-0 game toward the end of the first half. It's like, what is going on here? But you like to have a team that's ready, that looks good, that the operation's like, yep, we practice this, we were in game situation, we're ready. And that's the hope for the Bears. Kyle Brandt from the NFL Network. Greatest throws in FL history. That includes Caleb Williams. I want to take you to the front yard, all right? This weekend, I spent some time with the son when I got home yesterday. And my 10-year-old son and I, Calvin, were playing catch with the football in the front yard. He's throwing it around. And he made a particularly good catch. And I, oh, great catch, son. And he goes-- he said to me, he said, dad-- he still calls me daddy. I love it. He says, what's the greatest throw ever in the NFL? Like, who made the greatest throw? So I brought him inside, got out the tab, but we did some YouTubing. I educated the child. Oh, I saw him. And I said, here are the greats. Here are the greats. Because just go ahead and roll him. I said, son, you want to know the greatest throw is ever in the NFL, the biggest clutches throws you've ever seen, most impressive. 1981 NFC title game, son. That's Joe Montana. He's waiting over two tall Jones, the Dwight Clark, and the back of the end, so it came down as the catch. That's impressive. How about this one? Super 43 Rothusburg and a San Antonio Holmes. What a clutch throw. And then this one. And then here we go, preseason 2024, son. That's Caleb Williams, breaking the pocket, throwing a laser to Cole Camette down the sideline. He goes, wow, those first two were OK. But the third one was fire, dad. And you're right, son, it was. When I tell you, I got the goosebumps off my forearm in all parts of my body when Caleb Williams threw that pass. He threw us some several passes. But the guy out there throwing it and breaking the puck, can we just see it again properly done up? Because this is the ushering in of a new era, not a bear's football, but a professional football. Just give me the throw. Look at this thing. An absolute seed, Peter, a dot, a laser, a dime. He doesn't have to do it. He could throw it away. But no, I'm going to make a play. That era is over. This era is beginning. Just a gorgeous throw. And here's what you all-- I love the people saying, yeah, dude, it's against the 50th string defense. It's a preseason game, chill out. I won't chill out. I will not chill out. I like this angle. Look at-- you want this angle, Peter? Look at the rush. He's going to throw it away, isn't he? No, he's going to put it right between the numbers. In 25 yards, baboom. I will not be calmed. I will not be tranquilized. I will not do it. And neither should you, bears fans. Don't read those idiotic mouth-breathing booger-eating tweets from your Twitter saying, calm down. Don't calm down. You should not calm down. You should do the opposite. Fire up. That was amazing. There's more where that came from. I'm educating my kid. I'm educating you. Caleb Williams is here to stay. That's the one that I-- There you go, man. Legendary catches. Dwight Clark in the back of the end zone. And they catch from Caleb to Colcomet. Yeah, the throw. Oh, is that what we're going to-- Is that what we're calling it, the throw? The throw. Yeah. Shay, go to the copyright people. That's going to be known as the throw. Look, I get the hyperbole, but I'm with him. It's not-- look, we're kidding, but watching that game, I'm getting off the couch like, oh, yes! Holy cow, we got a quarterback, and then I got the peanut gallery known as my wife, Mindy, going-- Aw, they've got 13 points. Relax. It's not that big a-- I'm like, you're a goof. Go back to your garden. You don't get it. Don't get it. More times than that, she's right. Not always. Oh, Shay, she's not always right. So would you just say that in an open microphone? You said that about your wife? She's right, frequently, but not all the time. And on this one, bad take. Hmm, bad take. Did you tell her that? I absolutely did. And what it does-- It's a bad take. Come on, Jesse. So what did she say to that? She disagreed, so I cut a YouTube short, and it's out there in social media, and I can see what I call her. Say goof, go back to your garden. Goof. Damn. It's a bad take. Damn. Cap, how certain are you that this time it's true? That she's a goof? No, that this is the quarterback, that we have the quarterback. How certain am I? I heard Big Cat talking about it on part of my take. I am 1,000% certain, so certain that if there was some way to quantify it, I'd put 10 grand on it. Big Cat-- wow. Big Cat on part of my take was saying that watching Caleb Williams in the preseason made him feel stupid for ever believing Justin Fields are Mitchell Trubisky where the guys do feel the same way. Yes. Yes. There is no world you can look at. Mitchell Trubisky and put this kid next to him and go, yeah, that was what franchise quarterbacks look like. Mitch looks like a homeless bum. Can we come on? Well, Justin looks like a guy walking to his sales job, and Caleb looks like the guy pulling up in the black SUV with the Secret Service coming out. Like, who's that? That's a celebrity right there. Yeah, it's not even close. Well, with perspective, you just hope that the young man Trubisky and Fields at the time could blossom into something. However, when you take a look at the infrastructure of the organization, not necessarily under Mitch, but definitely under Fields, this is what you get, Cat. Everybody wasn't ready to win under Fields. As a whole, that's fair. That's fair. They were not ready to win under Mitch. Why shouldn't we be excited about Mitch Trubisky? Because it was new, but not here's the thing. As you well know, my college football eyes told me, hmm, not even 20 starts, and he's this high in the draft, huh? OK, we'll see. At the time, I didn't say no. I just said, boy, hopefully the bears, and I didn't use the word infrastructure at the time of the shows I was doing. But I was saying, I hope that they have enough support for the young man to get him to where they need to be. Strong running game, enough weapons for Mitch to be able to be utilized. Now, what also the problem is what Mitch Trubisky is, is Matt Nagy. Matt Nagy put his quarterback proclivities on Mitch Trubisky. Because when I played in the real league, I wasn't rolling around the pocket. You've got to stay there, change the pocket. Even though the few games I saw at Trubisky live at North Carolina, the guy can run all over the place and can run for first downs. How often was Mitch chained in the pocket? I don't want to do revisionist history with this. I'm just saying that the bears do not allow him to be able to do the things that he did best, sometimes. Agree with you, but there's no underwire. What did you call it, support? There's no underwire bra known to man that could support him. He wasn't good enough. I understand. Ultimately, that is the case. I'm talking about in the moment. In the moment. In the moment. I'll say this, the attacks that you took for your support of Mitch Trubisky-- and this is just me doing the night show and listening to you every midday-- I thought was unfair a lot because you're rooting for the young man because you want a franchise quarterback like we all wanted a franchise quarterback. So I'm just telling you, just as a listener, like everybody else listening to Captain Company, as you know, I listen every morning. Go to breakfast, turn an eye and see what's going on. It's been attacked again. I would listen and go, well, why are people yelling at Cap? Cap just wants a franchise quarterback. He's supporting the young man. But ultimately, no, it did not work out. But also, the head coach, Neophyte as a head coach, thinks that Mitch Trubisky is supposed to be friend-targeted and just stay in the pocket the entire time when you took away one of his weapons, which was his legs, in which Mitch said it at the time. I'd like to roll around the pocket a little bit more and kind of survey the scene a little more. He said it several times, quietly, but he said it. So I mean, so fast forward to Caleb Williams, just like we were excited about Justin Fields, like we were excited about Mitch Trubisky, the hope is is that because of the skins on the wall and the accomplishments of Caleb Williams, that this will be the guy we have to worry about that position for a decade. Hopefully-- and I think that in this iteration of the Bears, they got it right because it wasn't like, all right, kid, go out there and just get killed. It's all right, kid, here's why receivers help, here's offensive line help, here's tight end help. That's the difference between the Mitch and the Fields regime. Different because the infrastructure is different. - It's also the same nonsense they did to Cutler and you know I'm no Cutler guy at all. He couldn't go through all his progressions. They had to cut the field mat. Remember Jerry Angelo coming out saying, yeah, we're gonna cut the field in half because he would throw back across his body and then get picked off. But hey, Jay, welcome to Chicago. We're not gonna upgrade the old line. Hey, Jay, here's your top receiver, Johnny Knox. Hey, Jay, here's your other top receiver, Devin Hester. Devin Hester was a great return man. He was a terrible wide receiver. - Yes. - So, and then, oh, by the way, Jay, we're gonna give you 74 different offensive coordinators slash quarterback coaches. I mean, what are we doing here? This group pulls in company. They look like they are supporting this kid to the nth degree. Thank goodness. - Think about the history of watching the Chicago Bears football cap. Now look at what's happening now. Again, we always tell the story to our younger listeners and viewers. There's a time that the Bears didn't even have a GM. - That's correct, people can't believe they did not have a general manager. They had the late Mark Hadley rest in peace as a player personnel guy. Or Mike McCasky rest in peace when he was alive, did it? - We only give that context to talk about how the organization's different from a front office standpoint and a support standpoint. We only tell that story just to tell you where they were to where they are right now. And that's why the feeling is good for Caleb Williams because if you thought that Justin wasn't supported, look what Caleb has now. Now it's just about production. That's what I'm waiting for. Now it's about execution. That's what it comes down to. 3-1-2-3-3-2-E-S-P-N-3-3-2-3-7-7-6 is our phone number. With the Bengals resting their starters this weekend, should the Bears play theirs? How do you see it? If you're a Bears fan, you haven't called the show before or haven't called in a while. Hey, the season's right around the corner. There's, next preseason game will be Saturday. Captain Jay Hood, weekday morning 7-10, here on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app with you, so 10 o'clock that Mike Greenberg comes in. Then Black and Abdullah in for Carmen and Yurko 12-3. Carmen's in New York, by the way. He's there doing a symposium in New York to try to get alleys put into that town. So that's the way you want to have all that garbage in those rats out front of every business. Black and Abdullah 12-3. Guadalen Silvie, 230 to 630. And then the White Sox baseball gets the Yankees a 630 pregame right here on the home of the White Sox, ESPN 1000. - What are you talking about? - If you just join us, we're talking about the Bears and getting your thoughts about the Chicago Bears. - I meant, I thought about that. - As far as, huh? - What do you mean Carmen's doing a symposium to get alleys in New York? - I'm just telling you, that's what he texted me. We were texting. - I would like to see that text. - Now you're concerned, pal. I told you what was going on. That's where he is. He's not doing a show, he's in New York right now. - Yeah, but he's not doing a symposium on alleys coming to New York, as I know. - Well, then you don't need to see the text, and I said, if he knows so much, I'm giving you, yeah, it's funny, it's funny about you. - I can give you an ocean of information, and you only retain the top of the bottle. It's amazing. I can give you an ocean information, you only get the top of the bottle. That's how much you retain. - I retain it all. - No, you know, I give you oceans of information. - Huh, what's that? Who's that? Take that? - You only retain just a catful, that's it. I'm giving you everything, I'm telling you where Carm is. I tell you what he's there for, that's not happening. - He must be like at a cooking school. - See, that's why, exactly. This is why I don't tell you much, 'cause you don't listen. I give you all the information, and it ain't happening. - A symposium on alleys. - If I get alleys going in New York, you don't listen though. So that's why we move on to talk about the bears. That's it, every day I give this guy tons of information. He only retains the top of the bottle. Just a catful. - You didn't tell me that, I did cap, you weren't listening. - Oh, anyway. - Wow. - Angels two Mariners one, take that. 3-1-2-3-3-2, ESPN is our phone number. With the bingles rusting their starters this weekend, should the bears play theirs? It's because of the phone lines. Northside Eddie is on cap and Jhood. Eddie, good morning. - Good morning. - Oh boy, here we go. - We didn't do everything for Caleb Williams because I believe that that coach should have been removed and Jim Harbaugh should have been the coach. And I don't need to tell you the excitement that we would have this year of having an X Chicago bear player with that quarterback going into the season. And everyone called for him to get let go and fired, but still he remains. - Well, hold on a second. And now again, Jim Harbaugh's a hell of a football coach. They were never, ever. I could tell you this with 100% certainty. Never, ever was he even on their radar screen. Had they made a change, he would never have been the guy they would have even talked to. That's one, two, I asked two players face to face, tell me about Iberfus. They love playing for this guy. So while you said everybody's asking for his head, and I know hoodie and I when it was 14 straight losses, I'm sure Waddle and Sylvie and Carmen York, and Black and everybody, all the fans, in that building, they would never, ever felt that way. Ryan polls, we all need someone in our life that loves us like Ryan polls, loves Matt Iberfus. So it was not anywhere obvious to the guys in that room. - Yeah, Diska, the only person that liked him was Virginia, but you know what he did? A lot of people might not have liked him, but he brought us a Super Bowl. - His players love being liked by everybody. - His players liked him, what are you talking about Eddie? Ask Waddle, Waddle up playing for the coach. Hamp, what are you talking about in the background? The general manager, all the other guys. - The general manager was his best friend. What are you talking about? - See, come on Eddie, you're better than that. It's wrong. - His best friend. - It's not everyone, and I don't care about being liked by everybody as long as you win a Super Bowl, because it's too long. 1985, guys. - We agree on that. - That's gonna happen soon. - Hell. - That's fine, but I mean, you can tell us about 1985, but you need to read up on it. - Yeah. - And it just, cover. Just putting on stuff that's just not true. Is there even an easy? - That was Dicka's best friend. - Ken Valdiser, I mean. - These were, the only one that did not like coach Dicka was Mike McCasky, they didn't get along. - That's right. And why was that? Because Dicka took all the oxygen out of the room. - Correct. - It was that Dicka bears, so the Chicago Bears, and Mike resented it. He did. That's why he fired him. - With glee. - With glee, by the way. With glee, I was happy to do it. - Correct. He wanted him out because you hit the nail on the head. Too much Mike Dicka. - I did. - I don't know. I don't, I don't, I mean, this exhausted. Like, you want, you want to have the Bears back to prominence. If the Bears were a perennial playoff team at it, you would find a way to complain that the Bears aren't good enough. Dicka win the Super Bowl. - Yeah, but they didn't beat him sound like, oh, hey, hey. - Right. - Come on, man. - Right. - Right. - Exactly. - Exactly, man. Exactly. - South Bend, Indiana, here's Dan on cap and J-hood. Good morning, Dan. - Good morning. They had a couple of questions, not questions, just, you know, they had this inner practice with the Bengals on Thursday. I understand they can use situations, you know, goal line, two minute drills. You know, they get more out of that, but they have it on a Thursday than they expect the guys to play on a Saturday. You know, I just don't understand, you know, I feel bad for the fans. That's why I feel bad for a good lot of people out there that can't afford to go to a regular game. They're going to this preseason game, picking their kids when they enjoy the day. And the kids can't see, you know, their idols. You know, I just, why not move the practice back to a Wednesday, give the guys a couple of days rest and they can play their starters. That's why I, you know, play. - First of all, you can't make them play their starters. Can't. - Yeah, yeah, I understand, not can't. But, you know, I understand they get more out of, just don't have a preseason game and just have these, you know, regular practices. - Well, there's too much money at stake and the TV networks need the programming. They pay for billions of dollars, they want games. - And also the players would agree with you, Dan. - Players don't want to play preseason games. If you told the players we're going to do joint practices, no preseason game, in. - Man, look. - Yeah, I understand, you know, I just feel bad for the fans sometimes. - Yeah, Dan, we appreciate telephone call. But again, if you have any questions about things like this, always look for money first. You have any questions about things in sports? Check the money, 'cause that's where you can find the answer. - Follow the money. - Follow the money. - That's it. - It's on a T-shirt. Recap, follow the money. - That's it. - So you can find it. - That's it. - 3-1-2-3-2-3-2-3-2-3-7-7-6-7-6-7-4 number. My friend here, David Kaplan, and I will come back and take more of your phone calls. We'll talk about the bears. With the Bengals resting their starters this weekend, should the bears play theirs? Also, I have a big question to ask Cap about hotel and travel. We will get to that as well. - Put that in the cap full. - Yeah, you remember? Would I tell you? Would I ask you? Will you remember? - Yes. - All right, we'll get to that as well as we move forward here on The Cap and Jay Hood Morning Show. (electronic beeping) - Here's to Dave's headline. - Headline. - With Cap and Jay Hood. - Well, you had a rough night for the cubbies and a good night for Grady Sizemore and the White Sox. White Sox pounded the Yankees 12 through the series, opening a guaranteed rate. First win as interim manager for a new Sox skipper. Grady Sizemore, Brooks Ball with a three run bomb, put the game on ice in the eighth inning. Two teams will rematch again tonight over on this outside. You'll get it right here on ESPN 1006 33 game 705 first pitch. Cubs lost 9/8 to the Guardians. You had the Cubs tie the game after being down 8-3. Come all the way back, tie it on with Saya Suzuki, sack fly in the eighth. And then Craig Council with a horrific managing decision. Left is reliever in for a second inning. Julian Merryweather gives up the game, winning RBI to Josh Naylor, scoring Jose Ramirez who had doubled the lead off the bottom of the eighth. Cubs lose 9/8 back at it again tonight with Javier Assad against Matthew Boyd. And Lions star running back. Second year pro Jameer Gibbs left practice with a hamstring injury. He'll be evaluated today in Jets pass rusher Hassan Retik as officially requested a trade from the Jets to him Joe Douglas issue to statement immediately. They will not trade him. He continues to be fined $50,000 a day. Jibber. [MUSIC PLAYING] Captain Jay Hood are back. Oh, Captain Jay Hood, big fan man. [MUSIC PLAYING] Bop, bop, bop, bop. Watch out, fellas. Should the Bears play their starters? As we go to Lake Forest, here's Joe on Captain Jay Hood. Joe, good morning. Good morning. Thanks for taking a call. What's up, buddy? Before I answer your question, I want to thank both of you for the work you do and the show you provide and the entertainment and your knowledge, because I'm traveling back from Florida, and believe me, there is no comparison. You two are the best. Thank you so much. Thank you very much. You're awesome. We appreciate your kind words. Oh, they're more than kind words. Those are facts, my friend. Thank you. Anyway, to your point, I think they should play their starters. They need to get their people ready. Who cares what the Bengals do? If I was on the Bears coaching staff, my responsibility is to my team and make sure my team is prepared the best we can prepare. So I say play the starters. And one last point, Jonathan, I love you, man. But be careful about who you-- about messing with Julia Child. She worked for the OSS during World War II, and her husband was a CIA state station chief. So you never know who you're dealing with, my friend. But thanks, guys. Thank you, Joe. Appreciate you, Joe. By the way, Julia Child, today's the anniversary of her death. 20 years ago, she died at 91. Oh, bitch worries. Right up your alley. Right there. And I'm from the South Side, Joe. I've seen worse. Why? We turn now to-- [LAUGHTER] I'm not concerned. And I got Jay Moore as a backup. Yeah. So we turn now to a sidebar, may I approach? Yes, brought to you by Anken Law. 3, 1, 2, 6 million for the great Howard Anken. It's on my ball. You know what I was doing last night, Cap? Not only watching the Cubs and the White Sox, but also got to get in a little West Coast baseball before we turn the light out in the hood household. So I'm watching the Dodger and the Brewer last night. Dodgers win 5 to 2. Dodgers are in Milwaukee. The Dodgers are staying at the Fister-- Fister, I don't even know where-- the Fister Hotel in Milwaukee. Oh! And I-- Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! What happened there? So I was watching-- What about Joe? Let's get your well hotel? The P.S. Fister. [LAUGHTER] Oh! But nonetheless, Cap, the team, the Dodgers, are staying at the Fister Hotel. I've never stayed there before. But they say that the Fister is haunted. That true? I won't stay there. Is that true though? You've heard that too, right? Yeah, and there's been many, many celebrities and athletes and normal people that have come through and went haunted, not staying there. Mookie Betts right now is in an Airbnb in Milwaukee. He's like, I'm not staying there. It's haunted. But the creepiest story of all, I'm a huge Bryce Harper fan. I love Bryce Harper. The 2015 NL MVP award winner is perhaps the biggest name-- this is from ESPN and the magazine-- to have come forward with a spooky tale. Stayed in the Fister Hotel in 2012. Harper laid out his shirt and pants on a table by the end of the bed before going to sleep for the night. When I woke up in the morning, I swear on everything. The clothes on the floor, table on the opposite side of the room, I was so flustered, I honestly thought there might be someone in the room. I had no idea what the hell just happened. So I actually looked around, and I checked to see if the door was still latched, and it was. He thought it was perhaps a prank from a teammate. No one has ever come forward. He then requested to be moved to another room. Crazy. Yeah. Mike Cameron, former White Sox. For almost. Former offfield, they're made out of experience, and anybody's heard enough to avoid staying in the hotel. Somebody told me when they woke up in the middle night out of the blue, they feel like someone's in the room with them. The door's wide open. That is enough to start making plans to stay somewhere else. Captain's crazy. You've been offered that hotel, and then you won't stay there. I won't. Wow. Yep. And the hotel I like to stay there, because I'm a Marriott guy. There's a newer Marriott there. It used to be at the Hyatt downtown, right by the Bradley Center. Now it's Pfizer formed the new place. And they said, the only room we have for you is at the Fister. Everything else is booked. And I said, then I'll drive back home. I live in the North suburbs. I'm not staying there. Why? It's haunted. Oh, that's ridiculous. No. Carlos Gomez-- remember him in the big leagues? He said he's heard voices while staying in the Fister. The worst happening that he got out of the shower one year heard static playing on his iPod. So he grabbed the device, which then changed to another song. He raced out of the room and into the lobby before he put his pants on. I'm scared to go there. He said they should change the hotel. Everybody here doesn't like the hotel. Why do they always put us in the same hotel when you can't sleep? Everything's scary. Everything in the hotel, the paintings and pictures. It's a lot of old, crazy stuff. No good, man. No good. So, Shay, I would ask you, with all these stories. And the reason why I came up is because, you know, the Dodgers playing the Brewers and Mookie Best says, no, I got an Airbnb. I'm not saying at the Fister. Should the Fister lean into this more? 'Cause you can't, you can't get away from that perception. And we got all those stories. Should you just say, hey, the scariest hotel we have in town? Yes. And you would probably do really good business off of selling yourself that way. But this is all just mass hysteria. And ghosts aren't real. This is not real. I disagree. There's nothing real. Like you've been scared to stay there, are you out of your mind? Clint Hurdle, the former Pirates manager, may not have seen a ghost. But he had to deal with it, one of his players, in 2016, said that all the Hurdle had not seen the ghost. The player called him in the middle of the night because the ghost had turned on his TV twice in one night. He came to my room not to sleep. I had to settle him down. I walked him back to his room. I sat in the room with him for a while. The TV did not come back on, so I exited. Everything was OK, but he refused to stay there. He's still playing in the video. This is ridiculous. Wow, that's something. You always say, if you're scared by a dog, buy a dog. I would stay at the fester hotel for a full weekend, never leave the room. I'm not scared. I don't care. It's not real. Shay, who are you going to call? Nobody, because there's no ghost. That is just amazing. There is no ghost. If there's going to be all that, I would lean into it. I would have ghouls and goblins year-round. That's for Halloween, all the time. To have a couple of ghost busters out there in the front. Those are the ones that take your baggage, take your luggage. They'll be in the uniforms. They've got the little ray guns. Stay-puff man. I would have all of it. They're going to be like that. When players don't want to stay there. I don't know why it's always the fester. It's crazy. Yeah, I will not stay there. I literally would drive to Minneapolis and stay there between games. Put me up there for a weekend. I'll stay there. I won't leave the room. I'll stay in the hotel the entire weekend. I hope that just this research-- I hope that I do that, and that some ghost shows up and makes it a living hell for you all night. You come back here going, oh my god, I saw a ghost. Sounds like good content. I'll come back and relax. The nice hotel stays. I don't afraid of no ghost. I'm not worried about it. No shot. They don't really think to be afraid of. I'm not worried about a ghost. Ghost busters. Stay afraid of no ghost. Are you afraid of ghosts? Light them up. Three, one, two. The ghost would be afraid of me. I'm sitting in the room screaming about some second string quarterback at Iowa State. Ghost is like I'm having a bother, and that guy. I am absolutely scared of ghosts, and I will never stay in the fester hotel. That's crazy, man. I don't believe in ghosts, but I believe in those stories. If the people feel like they've seen the supernatural or something, I get it. I just wouldn't stay there. The cap and jighood cut of the day is right around the corner on Chicago's home for sports. Why don't you get Officer Strawley, who's shaving his beard in the bathroom here, and let him go work on my beard? I'm good, I'm actually good. We don't need him to work on-- That dude was in the bathroom today. All I wanted to do was take a nice, peaceful pre-show poop. And I walk into the bathroom, and this guy's picking away at his hair. He's shaving his beard. He's got some toiletry bag, a fully loaded toiletry bag. Spray and stuff on himself. He's playing soul music off of his phone, having a good time like he's in his bathroom at home. I just wanted to take a peaceful pre-show poop, and this guy is in there bathing himself. Brother. Yeah, pretty strong in that soul music. Can I take more? He was taken aback by the soul music that he was playing. His soul's probably not the right word. But he was black. He was looking for black. It must have gotten right. He was playing that black music. Hey, he was playing that black music cap. I want to defend it. Stuffed R&B. Listen, if I didn't know that the music was good. Just like that. Oh, no. You've never mentioned it, though. Now, here we go. Here's your dog whistles. You ready? Pit. All right, so you know that the guy's black. He had his pick, and then he's playing his soul music in there. See, cap? There you have it. Hey, brother. America, to turn down your soul music. And get it all, folks. That was ridiculous. That's so ridiculous. And you know what? I'm frustrated at its own fair. First of all, I'm like, I get it. I'm over the top for people sometimes. OK, that's fine. I am who I am. But when I come down the hall and I say, hey, what's up, hoodie? I get, what's up, brother? I get, hey, he pulls his car up behind me when I'm pulling in. We chat in the park. Like, that's what we are. I walk in every day, like today. There's Officer Strawley. I go, officer, good morning. And he ain't an officer. He's not. He's never been a police officer. I did a little homework here. Yeah. And he's like, hmm. Ah, good morning. You having a good day? Mmm. Guy can speak. And then I go to the bathroom to wash my hands today. And his beard hairs everywhere. I tell you, Kathy, you might be in a bad mood, because I've been timing my pre-show poops now to disrupt his bathing routine in the bathroom. Every morning. Unbelievable. Somebody get out of the photo. What do you say, Dean? It was so bad I couldn't stop laughing out. I was a fan day. I was a fan day. I never said that. It's not even fair. It's erroneous. Hey, everyone who's afraid, like Shay said, go out and get a dog. I saw a note from Caleb Williams yesterday on Saturday. Shut it down, baby. It's been a long, a long time coming, but I know that Shay is going to come. Oh, yes, it will. Take that shit car out. That's awesome. Thank you, Dean. That was great. And we thank you for listening and calling in and being part of the program here on Captain J. Hood. Thanks, Shay. Hironia Shay, as well as J. Morna, the other side of the glass. How about a while on Wednesday tomorrow? That would be awesome. Let's do it. Come on, everybody. Take that from Chicago.
