couple NFL notes. It came down this afternoon. J.J. McCarthy. The, uh, was he number eight overall pick? Was he? He was eight or nine, right? Yeah. He was drafted pretty high. 10, 10. Okay. Um, knee injury. Uh, could cost him part or all of his work he sees. And he actually looked pretty decent in his debut. He threw an early interception against the Raiders and then kind of turned it around and did pretty well, but he's going to have to undergo surgery this week, according to coach Kevin O'Connell, at which point, doctors will determine how to address the injury. It's torn meniscus is what it is. So depending on the severity of that, it might be a few weeks where it might be the entire season. So that they're, they will determine just how serious it is and what the recovery timetable will be and whether he can really come back off of that. It's going to be a lot of Sam Darnell, the Vikings. Yeah, it looks like, and it looked like he was probably going to win the starting job, although, like I said, they were encouraged by what McCarthy showed last week that, uh, over the weekend. So, uh, yeah, as a result of that, uh, McCarthy out and have surgery and, uh, it could be out for some time. Uh, depending, they'll, they'll, uh, no more when they got really going. All right. Couple other things. Uh, speaking of offense, you see the commander signed Martavis Bryant. Oh, they'd say, uh, Martavis, the, the, in case you're wondering the last time Martavis Bryant caught a pass in the national football league. Can I guess? Yeah. It was a 2019. Further back in 2018, further 27. Oh, well, let's see. Uh, he did play, uh, he did play in 2017. He signed with the Raiders in 2018. He did and then was indefinitely suspended by the NFL. Uh, he was later signed by, if you want to keep track of this, two Canadian football league teams never played the game with them. Also spent time in the indoor football league, the fan controlled football league, believe them. Never even heard of them. Fan controlled football league, ever even heard of that. And the XFL said he didn't know if he'd get another chance in the NFL, said he needed to be prepared physically and mentally, but, uh, Washington has signed. They only have one other receiver taller than six, two and camp. That's Bryson Tremaine, uh, who is six four and just trying to make the roster. So, um, he, he, the Cowboys did sign him this past season. Yeah. In 2023, once the practice squad, I don't think he never appeared in a game. Uh, Dallas, eventually capped him or cut him in, in May and areas now in August. So he was on the roster for almost exactly two months of the Cowboys from November 6th January 4th. Um, and, uh, we'll see Dan Quinn, the new head coach says he's pretty anxious to prove he can still play. Um, so it's, it's probably a low risk situation for the commanders to take with him to see what they can do. And it's also a, another cowboy player that has followed Dan Quinn as to Washington. I mean, yeah, I already have a Doris Armstrong who's headed over there, a handful of others. Having a ramp up his development pretty quickly. Edoga hurt his toe in the first quarter of the game against the Rams on Sunday. He was in a boot afterwards MRI yesterday, no determination regarding whether he has to have surgery, a Tyler guy and play 21 snaps against the Rams. Look good. Yeah. So he looked pretty good. So, uh, they're hoping he can replace Tyron Smith and of course, signed with the jets and then Edoga took most of the first team snaps early in training camp, guiding it work with the number one unit at a few times. Edoga started six games last season at guard and tackle in his first season with Cowboys. He just resigned in April of one year deal. So now they don't know because of the toe injury. So you could see Tyler Gatton really accelerated in his development. Top part is, is that week one, he'll be right across from Miles Garrett. So it'll be a quick welcome to the league moment for Tyler Gatton. But he looked good in the first game. Obviously a rookie left tackle. There's going to be some growing pains with him in Tyler Smith on the left side, but it looks like it's been one preseason game. It looks like the Cowboys staff did a great job of locating another great offensive lineman in the first round, which is one thing. No matter what I said about Jerry Jones, you cannot argue with the way they have drafted defensive lineman in the draft since like 2014, 2013. They have, they have a high, high success rate of drafting. I can't believe I just heard you. Hey, credit, credit, where credit is due. I can't believe I just heard you things compliment Cowboys ownership and management of the football. Now when it comes to re-signing these guys, different story. Yeah, miss you, Tyron Smith. We miss you. Yeah. So anyway, there's just a couple of notes there. And, and the Cowboys get ready for the Raiders in preseason game number two. If you made a decision yet on if you plan to. What night is that? Is that Saturday? I don't think so. I think I see another Trey Lance. I'm good there. So good about Geiten. So I don't know. I think I'm okay. You're not interested in any of the other position battles and. No, what might happen with them? No, because I mean, now we can just read about it the next day. I know it sounds kind of lame, but that's the way it is. Nine o'clock at night on Saturday. What are we doing here? Well, it's in Vegas. That's so late, though. It's in Vegas. It's seven o'clock Pacific time bedtime. Not on a Saturday night. Are you kidding? Come on. Yeah. So it's a nine o'clock, nine o'clock Saturday night. And then they play their only home preseason game. The following Saturday against the Chargers. I did not realize that they still charge full price for preseason games. That's why that's why the that's why the owners have wanted to keep as many preseason games as possible, even if they add regular season games. This is all part of that debate about 18 games in the regular season, which I think they should have gone to back some time ago. Yeah. And and trim the preseason game total to two. Now, it's and if you're playing two preseason games, one of them's on the road, one of them is at home. So you're really only getting stuck. If it and this is if you're a season ticket holder or somebody's used to buying tickets to go to the games, you're only stuck with paying full price for one game. One preseason game because the elements on the road. So, you know, that's that's a way to look at it, I think. But this this whole weird unbalanced of 17 games is strange. It's right. We're at three. Pre-existing games right now. Yeah, three. Yeah. They went to three when they went to 17. So, you know, I think two is fine. Yeah, two, listen, who are we kidding? The starters aren't playing it at any point. So for the most part, these coaches have a pretty good idea of who's going to make the team. You're seeing that in camp in practice. You don't need four games to decide. I think two is probably a good number. And I bet some of them are just saying, hey, one's good enough. Two would be two would be fine because you could have one at home and one on the road and that would be OK. But I certainly don't think they need more than two and 18 would be fine with a nice round regular season number. All right, we'll be back to wrap up our number two here on Sports Radio. I am 13 under the zone in the eye.
