Ravens are in training camp. Another day of practice in the books at One Winning Drive. It's a perfect time to talk to our buddy Tack Carver, which covers the Ravens for BaltimoreSports.com. The O's for press box and carp. Thank you as always for joining us. So, let's start here. How hard is it to glean much? What you're seeing offensively without Lamar Jackson there. Another day missed the training camp today. Well, big time. You know, it's not the same energy. You know, it's different. I mean, the players are playing hard. I mean, you're wrong. I mean, when they're working hard, but it's not the same energy. We have Lamar. You know, when he shows up the crowd is going to get nuts. And also, you know, he's a starting quarterback. He's the guy is going to be making a plate. So you want to see him out there. And now he's sick. There's nothing you can do about it. Harbaugh said it was back when he's healthy, when he's deemed healthy. So we'll see. But, you know, we're going to look at look at the backups. But, you know, right now, you know, offense sort of a little heavily at Lamar Jackson. Which I think we get a lot of targets. Catch a lot of balls. But again, you know, when the market's back, there's going to be a different team out there. The defense had their way with them again today or was it was a little more pronounced yesterday than today, defensively or. Oh, oh, wait, oh, wait, it's crushing people. Now, one point of practice, Harbaugh, the former side. Hey, dude, take it easy. You know, take it easy, please. You know, he's making sure he doesn't run any players, but he's dominating. Now, Arthur Moi had another interception. Yeah, these guys have gotten the best of these guys. But again, you know, I think today the receivers play better today. They make a lot of catches. Dave Flowers is really good. He's, you know, when he's catching a ball, he's got some. He's tricking defenders. You can see more agile than last year. About this Walker had a nice catch, a diving catch in the far field. It was kind of away from us. But the crowd went crazy when he called it. They have the heart. He's going to be kind of the base of the job as an attorney. Also had a couple of nice catches. She had all but a bit better today. I think there's a piece on the end. Well, but again, they don't have tabs on. So, you know, we don't know how much we're getting out of this. We're talking to Todd Garber, which is inside access here on the family. Let's get back to away. And, you know, we had Jonah Schaeffer on a couple of weeks ago and he feels like based on the the analytics, he's due for a breakout year. We've seen him dominate in camp before. Are you expecting to see a more dominant away in games this year? Well, I mean, I think we're going to see a solid player. Yes, he has to get to the quarterback. He has to get sacks now. Can they can he do up a scheme or he can get to the Corvette more? We'll see. You know, he's always been a good player. I think he, you know, you know, he led the team last year with an 18.2% rush rate. So, he's getting close. You know, he's just not finishing. So, you know, they need, they need to replace nine and a half sacks. You know, the crowding, you know, I mean, where are they going to get that? You know, they know we had nine sacks and calls are going to last year. I think, you know, that sort of helped the case there. So, yeah, they're going to need a way to the kind of, you know, being an eight to 10 sack range if they were a professional quarterback. I think he can do it. It's a matter of if he can execute it. Where in the world is Marlon Humphrey was kind of a game we play throughout OTAs or more like why in the world isn't Marlon Humphrey healthy enough to be out there, but he's good to go now. All right. I guess so far so good. He seems to be in a pretty good headspace as well. Yeah, he's like really good. He lost some weight. You know, he, he said he hold out here. It was a better decision to hold out the OTAs, not because injuries. I don't see about that. Um, but yeah, he's, but he's really good. I think, you know, I think him and Ryan is standing. He's sort of the center urgency there because they had young guys coming up, you know, who could take their jobs. You know, I think Marlon Humphrey said today, you know, he would, he's open. We play a little safe, which is probably next step in his career. As far as being outside guy, but he looked really good. He brings us the help because he was hurt last year and it hurt the rapist. So they have now they have no wiggens and Tampa guys. They draft. He were ready to come up and wiggens and he's got his right to play an interception yesterday. He's quick. He's a ball off. He's got to put some more muscle on him. Well, he's a guy. You can take our red side job. We're talking to Ty Carpovich inside access here on the fan. Let's switch to the Orioles and we are now exactly a week. By the way, it's a week and an hour until the trade deadline, the trade deadline. Six o'clock next Tuesday, we're seeing lots of reports. Our friend, John Marosi says that tigers have scouts and Norfolk. The Orioles and Tigers are talking. Jeff passing today, talking about the Orioles willing to trade guys like Ryan Mount Castle, Cedric Mullins. How, how are you reading these tea leaves right now, Carp? Well, I think, you know, I just saw a report now that the Orioles are the favorite to get through a scoop, which would be huge. Now, what would they have to give up for? You know, I mean, I don't think they're, I don't think the Orioles are going to trade, you know, they're not going to trade their top guys. You know, I think a solo could be on the table. I mean, curse that maybe, you know, but, you know, I didn't like a lot to put a trigger. You know, yeah, Jackson Hall. Yeah, I think he's the guy, I don't think he's touching right now, but we'll see. You know, they, they, I think the Orioles do have to make a bold move. This could be, this could be the year, you know, I mean, if you have to get the future, the time to win is right now. They got the second best record in major leagues and they have a, you know, if you rotation at best, you know, with Kramer's sort of, you know, we don't know if we'll get to Kramer's game, you know, and I'm, you know, in the fifth spot, why open for a guy, you know, and I'll take over. You know, I think a lot is going to pull a trigger. But when you got, you got a, you got a Jackson Hall, then your minors, that's the guy everybody wants, you know, and if you're not going to give them up, you might go elsewhere. I don't think the Yankees are applying for big moves. So it's, it's going to be interesting to see him like a lot of stops here. He's got a show that now, you know, he, he stopped up for us to come be the best. For us, it's major league baseball. Now it's going to show that they can, they can make a deep run here at the major league level. And he needs, he needs support for that. This season Instacart has your back to school. Yeah, if you want to chuckle, go check out the Yankee starting lineup tonight with our guide, Jami Jones, leading off. Yeah. It is. JD Davis batting fourth. It is something. Yeah. Oh, they need, they need, they need a lot of help. They need a lot of help. Yeah. I can't imagine Todd that they would take someone in Chase McDermott who's never pitched in the majors before. Put him on the taxi squad. Have no starter listed for tomorrow and somehow decide he's not going to get. And by the way, get that started. Push Corbin Burns. Corbin Burns to Thursday, right? I have a hard time seeing a scenario where they're not going to give this guy at least one opportunity to start in the majors. Maybe one more before we get to the trade deadline. Yeah. The malls are 30 games on the 500. There's a team where you make your debut against. You can do it and hit that lineup. Yeah. I was thinking they're going to see this taken due. Again though, you know, I was just talking about this. You know, it's so far from moving to the bullpen, you know. Right. And I'll support there. You know, let him get his innings. Let me get a case of measuring baseball. Pull him, you know, you know, less precious spots. So now that'll be interesting. It works now. But yeah, they got three times in the malls. We're there. They didn't get a look at the guys because the teams are very good. Well, remember, they did exactly this with Dio Hall, right? They gave him that start in Tampa. And then they said, Hey, you're going to go to the minors and work a few times out of the pen. And then we're going to bring you back up as a reliever. So it's not like there isn't a recent precedent for this. Yeah, I think I think I think that's a practical way to go about it. You know, these guys are going to think measuring hitting it. Less precious spots. Let them adjust to it. That's not saying the kid's going to be in a reliever to rest his career. But let him build up a little bit. And also, you can serve their innings. Come and have a bullpen. Carp, we talked about a starter. Would you like to see the Orioles get a bullpen arm from the outside? You're in Miami. You could bring old friend Tanner Scott back with you if you'd like. Yeah, you could. But, you know, if they get that, if they transfer that star, they can move one of the guys in rotation into bullpen. So that's sort of help there. I think they're going to move level bullpen. I think they really need a perpetrator on a high end starter. I think they can get by with this bullpen. So I'm going back to Denver too. So they're getting support. They're going to have some help. So, you know, I think the focus has to be on a star. Maybe they're letting it back. Maybe something's out there. We talked about this very early in the show and haven't been able to get back to it. But it's something we'll explore down the road. What do you think about an Anthony Santander extension? Like last year, Teosco Hernandez is a similar guy. Like these two, among all major league right fielders, the last three years are tied with 91 home runs. Fifth and tied for fifth among all right fielder slash DHS. Neither superior in the outfield. Tony's a little younger than him. You know, he got 23 and a half one year from the Dodgers. Like we saw Solaire get three, three years, 42 million. So if you could get Tony three years around 18 million a year with him being a switch hitter, as you're going to get more Latin players up here, right? He's essentially sort of a homegrown internet. The Guardian signed him. We didn't write, but like we got him when he was still in the minors. I don't know. Is there a case to be made about him being here maybe even longer than a Mullins or a Hayes or a Ramon or these other guys? The problem is there's a log jam in the outfit. You know, we're just talking about this in the greatest media of the day. He got you a trade. You know, he's got a lot of value. He's a 30 home run guy. Yeah. Now, I don't think he's trans and American League team pushing the water to come back and haunt you. You know, but do you trade for naturally? He's got some value. You know, and if you're not going to offer him an extension, then I think, you know, you think about trade. Because you don't want to walk for nothing. And I think, you know, I think he's always priced himself up pretty good. Like you say, it's what gender, you know, he's a 30 home one guy. But again, or is it a surplus of outfit? There's now Hayes and Mullins. You don't know. They're cute. Yeah. At first, they're challenging the towers there, you know, knocking on a door. So that that's, you know, I think you have to make this decision sooner than later. Carl, before we let you go, you opened the door there. So I want to ask you, and Jeff Passon alluded to it as well. I'll throw guys. These are basically guys that preceded Michael Elias. And that's that's Mount Castle Mullins, Hayes, Santander. In your opinion, the odds that one of them or more aren't here when the deadline passes. I think Mullins will be here. Santander, too. I don't know. Let's see. I don't think Hayes. I think it might get the DSA. I don't know. I will say, you know, I don't know. I don't know what you can get back for Hayes on a trade market because he's a free agent. Well, he's got options. You could always just send off the Hayes to Norfolk, right? Like instead of giving him away, you could just, yeah. He sent him down there. Like they used to do it McKenna, right? And he's the right handed hitting sort of guy. He's becoming a mechanic. I mean, better way better than McKenna. But like I'm just saying, you could keep him for deep depth. He might talk in Norfolk too. He's already, you know, he's already, you know, he's not a good headspace right now. Todd Carpovich covers the Ravens for Baltimore Sports.com covers the ocean press box. Carp always great, man. We will talk next week. Thanks, guys. Appreciate it. Thank you.
