First place Orioles and first place Mariners start a three game series tonight in Seattle and joining us now to talk about it. The voice of Mariners television, Dave Sims, and Dave, thank you as always for joining us. We appreciate your time. The Mariners, it seems like about five minutes ago, it looked like they were going to run away with this division. But now all of a sudden things have gotten a little interesting, haven't they? Hey, they're still the first place. They've eaten. Bottom mess and fall completely out. The ship hasn't sucked or any of that kind of stuff. Hey, it's baseball, man. And they're going through a bad stretch. Actually, a bad stretch has been almost from day one hitting. They don't hit a ton. They have had a lot of timely hitting, pitching's been outstanding. That's why they're in first place. The 10 game lead, you know, it wasn't going to last any a team. Mariners are good, but they weren't good enough to run away and hide some Houston. You knew Houston would get a little bit better and get healthy. And that's a story right now, man. Well, the bats have been the problem for a while now. How shocked are you, Dave, that we're almost we're more than halfway through on paper another season. And we're still talking about a team that's 26 and the majors and OPS 25th and on base 26th and runs in first and strike. Yeah, dead, dead last and batting average of two, a lovely 218. Yeah, it's not good. Obviously, it's a major level of concern and ire. You know, there's a lot of dudes in there. You don't have a bunch of batting champions on it, but you don't have and these guys aren't all 175 to 10 to 13 hitters. And I've been saying for weeks that they just get that a freaking big league average of 240. This team can win the whole thing with that pitch. Yeah, same at the pitch and stays healthy. And the kitchen's really good. I mean, hiccup here and there, but every now I mean, it's just phenomenal. And we still got Gregory Santos, right, Andrew, who throws just six stuffs. He should be back at the latest, probably to start the post also on break with Houston here at home. And it could be back in the next week. Who knows? But those cats have been pretty good for the most part. And the starters have been outstanding. So it's a it's a good problem to have. I mean, it's easy, you know, I talked to a lot of guys here and see how I said it's easy to bitch and mom. You're still in first place. I've said it since they were up by 10 because I caught myself doing the same thing. I'm right down the standings every day. I went, wait, we're up like kind of in first place, shut up. Got like the sixth best record and baseball shut the hell up. Dave, we're still waiting for Julio Rodriguez's breakout. And now that we're more than halfway through the season, do you expect that to still come? Let me tell you something. Good though could arrive before we can. Holy other way. This is gone right now. Yeah, waiting for Julio was a big theme here. And hey, all you know is wait. It's time, man. And he's putting it. You know, I've seen some differences in the swing. Lord knows he's putting in the work. I mean, he's proud. I'm at I'm still at home right now. It's 135 Pacific. He's probably at the ballpark hacking right now against speed machine. Wouldn't surprise me. I believe his guy is all season guy has flown in. I got to double check that. But that's I did hear that and now maybe that helps. But he's too good an athlete to to be this bad for this, you know, this long and if you look at his history, second half is his baby. We're talking to Dave Sims. It's inside access here on the fan day. We were talking a little bit earlier in the show and thinking about like buy buy deals that the deadline a deal that's a buy for both teams and the Orioles could use a starting picture. The Mariners could use a bat. Could you see the Mariners? Like we were thinking and I know this is all hypothetical and we'll go into a hypothetical rabbit hole here. But like the Orioles could possibly trade a Ryan Mount Castle in the right deal. Is that something that you could see the Mariners may be looking at. I'd be blown away if any of the five starting five get moved. I mean, you want to give me one photo? That's the conversation we had a few years ago. My friends back in New York said, hey, when do you give me this feeling? I said, when do you give me this canoe? And then we wind up with both of them. So Robinson can all night your guy. Yeah. I don't know. I saw Jerry and passing the other day. I said, hey, have that bone battery up? You know, battery up and bone wires burning. He says, oh, it's quiet right now. The way I said it was a smile. I know I told my leg or not. But hey, I tell you what, it'll be a it'll be a feeding frenzy as usual. I mean, you can tell anyone like now, nothing's happened, but I guarantee it's going to be a feeding frenzy. Somebody's going to get hurt between now and then another picture is going to have TJ surgery or a UCL and somebody's going to be in dire straits and then you know, about a big, about a boom. There we have it. I want to go back to Julio for a second. I remember talking to you last year and it was earlier than this. And you know, you felt like the kid was just putting too much on himself and you know, like you want to be the ambassador for the team. You want to sign every autograph. You want to do everything in the community, you know, and you want to try to win an MVP award and that maybe it was too much. And I guess some of it probably is just seasonal. Maybe some of it has to do it with the weather. Maybe some of it has to do with how he does his off seasons. But the fact that this one is gone this deep and the poolside power just isn't there, right? Like if you really break down what's going on, right? Is that is that like because the batted average on balls in play, some of the peripherals, hard hit rate and all that are about the same, but that there's no poolside power. I'm no Charlie Lau, but I know one thing it seems like that that's head and front side is pulling out awfully quick. And he does hit some pitches away, hit him hard, but he hits him on the ground. That's a problem. And the swing plane looks really different from last year when he had August, his August last year was set beyond words. And he has to get the ball. He has to get back to where he can pull side and straight away and get it out. I mean, he's such a good athlete. And you know, all you guys been around superstar athletes, they eventually figure it out. Somebody's going to get their butt kicked when they do. Dave George Kirby's going to be on the bump tonight for Seattle. He's had a great season, but he's had an unbelievable stretch. He's got a 39 strike out the three walk ratio over his last six starts. What's really been working for Kirby? Fastball split slider and just sheer defiance. It's a few here it is. Can you hit it? I mean, he's a kid from just North of New York and Ryan New York. And he has that I've seen him. I've walked by him like Dave and I say to somebody, he's got his New York face on look out. And he has a New York face lookout. And he doesn't walk anybody. He takes unbelievable pride in and that. And he's a for rosius capital F competitor. And this is a hell of a challenge. I mean, the Orioles are a great team. I mean, leading, scoring, adding, I mean, across the board. It's a heck of a test. And I don't, I think that the mounted pitching is such that I don't think they'll get, I don't like the chances I'm getting blown out. Right. And they're what 18 and nine, one of the best one record records in the game. So they know how to play in tight squeezes. And, you know, the weather, as it usually does here in Seattle, today's July two, this is the way where the weather gets spectacular. It is absolutely gorgeous here right now. So if you talk about that, you're going to have big crowds to get Toronto coming in this huge homestead. This is a time to, you know, get that lead back up to maybe seven, eight, nine games and maybe get some more help from some other people. Orioles and Mariners start a three game set tonight in Seattle. Dave Sims, the voice of Mariners TV day. Thank you so much for your time. We appreciate it. Hey, Jason, big up man.
