He gave up three hardest singles that have the caught stealing in between, but I'm thinking, man, he doesn't look like the regular Corbin Burns. He did end up giving up nine hits, but only one run did not walk anyone as Hider said and gave him the seven quality innings again to get the win Orioles win 11 too. Well, what I loved about it is he adjusted, he adjusted in real time and he adjusted with Adley Ruchman and not the veteran catcher with him. So there were a lot of things that I like. We know his cutter is his premier pitch. It's arguably one of the best pitches in baseball. And the Rangers were ready for it. And he wasn't getting swing and miss with it. And so yeah, there was a part of me kind of wondering how this is going to recalibrate. And he threw the cutter a little less. He sprinkled in some more curveballs and sliders and sinkers and change ups. And he sort of offset it that way. But look, that cutter that could be so dominant. He threw it 33 times. He only got four swing and miss from it the entire game. They put 12 of his cutters into play average 93 miles an hour off the bat. It was getting him in a little trouble. He just couldn't locate it like normal, whatever, maybe the Rangers were on to something. But everything else fell in the line for him. And he got a 50% whiff rate with the slider. 63% whiff rate. I mean, that's ridiculous. Even if it is just eight, eight swing and miss. With the curve ball, the change up was an effective pitch for him. He threw it nine times, got three swing and miss with it. So I loved how he dipped bone into his full arsenal on a day where his main thing probably couldn't shouldn't be the main thing. And he ended up throwing the cutter only about 38% of the time, which is less for him. And the rest of his repertoire, helped him put forth another dominant performance. Diffed bone, really, really good performance by Corbin Burns. And we talked yesterday here at Pickles about the pressure that is on Grayson Rodriguez and Corbin Burns to really carry the rest of this rotation on their backs. And then you get back to back seven inning starts, seven inning, you know, quality starts out of both of them. And Burns, he was mentioning in the post game, he had five strikeouts. And the game plan wasn't to blow a biome or get strikeouts. You know, he had some pitch efficient innings, like the sixth inning where he retired the side on seven pitches. Now I had to work through some traffic and I started from the get go in the first inning, three straight singles, but really, really good performance and a season high 19 swing and misses. Yeah, crazy. But again, only four off the cutter. Yeah, 15 off everything else. He threw 20 plus pitches in the first inning. He finished at 88. Like if this was a close game, maybe I go back out there for the eighth inning. Absolutely. Yeah. And and look, it's it's easy to minimize what the bullpen does in some of those situations. But like, and I get it, they've been pretty judicious about how they've used Nick Vespi, but it's been pretty impressive. Like it's it's been pretty impressive for a kid who they called up you know, I don't know nine times the last two years and barely used them on a lot of those call ups like he's and you and what he's done is allow them to back off Aiken now. And I'm starting to wonder if if the trust invest be ticks up just a little. I'm not saying you're still going to see him in tight, you know, close and late situations. But if there's a little more trust in him, then do we see Aiken fall a little more into that role he was in the first six weeks last year when he was so good, which was, Hey, you're going to get us. We're going to find a situation once or twice a week, and you're going to get us six to nine hours to bridge us. And that's, you know what I mean? That's going to be it. We don't we don't need you to be the lefty, lefty guy facing Soto and the eighth inning of a tight game. Now the Coulomb's not here anymore. We'll figure stuff out with that. But maybe this is a less is more situation for Aiken as well. And we've seen that at times this year, Aiken getting sent out there to provide some length for this bullpen. But it's a pleasant development. I mean, you're trying to find some guys to step up and best be I've always liked him. I mean, it's just kind of one of those prospects that have gotten broad enough that haven't really had the runway like we've been talking about a lot. So making the most of his, but he's also another one of those anomalies in that. It's not modern day bullpen or velo, velo, velo. He's that's not him. Now he can get swing and miss with the slider for sure. But he's not getting swing and miss with the fastball. It's not like he's going to beat anybody with velo. You're hoping he gets ground balls and some swing and miss with the slider, which lately he's been doing it. We should also bring up with the game last night. The Orioles have hit the halfway point of the season. They are 51 and 30 after 81 games and also in first place again in the A. L. E. For the first time since May 13th, I think percentage points ahead of the Yankees who got blown out again. Yankees are non competitive outfit right now. Starting pitching bullpen, fielding, hitting every component of baseball right now. They are they're struggling. So hopefully those could string together some more wins this weekend. Yes. Yankees will probably continue to struggle a little bit with Toronto here. And maybe we get to July 4th in the Orioles have a couple game lead. Yeah. I mean, it's weird it. Some ways I feel like we were just here, you know, for opening day, not that long ago and other ways with all the Tommy Johns and everything. Other ways, I'm like, my God, we've been through all this and we're only 80 games in. Like it's, I don't know, there's a bit of a duality there. But no, go ahead. No, I was going to say to bone, like they got exactly what they needed from Grayson and then Burns like with the unknown that comes after if you would have said like given Brandon high true serum and said, what do you need out of Grayson and Burns? Because you need the bullpen probably the next few days, or at least you probably think you might. To my aching point, you might this might be the night you need a left for three innings. Because if Suarez looks like Suarez has looked, get his ass out in the third or fourth inning, right? We don't need to see more of it. He's headed to the bullpen anyway. We're Kramer coming back. Don't get too cute, Skipper. Yeah, you got 14 innings out of these two guys. The last two nights. I mean, that's what I'm saying at the top. I mean, we talked about it. These two guys have to continue to deliver those type of outings. And heck, you can even go back to Burns's prior start where he wasn't the sharpest by any stretch, giving up four runs, but he was still able to provide length going seven innings in that outing. And guys, I don't know about you. That was the first time the O's faced the Rangers, obviously, since the ALDS. And what does a June series mean? There's no revenge. I didn't feel any special way about it. I didn't feel any special way about it, but I was watching it thinking, man, it would be nice to have Corbin Burns in that series. Like, that was the one thing that came to me where I was like, damn, man, I mean, I get it. This is a struggling Rangers team right now. We documented their offense, particularly on the road and how much they just five and 17 now in their last 22 rows, and just not putting up runs. But that did come to my mind where I was thinking, Oh, man, I want to share this tweet that a friend of the show, Alex Fass just tweeted. Gunnar Anderson has a 6.0 F war. That's now I know war F war, all these other wars, but he says that's the highest F war grass war. That's the highest F war a players put up at this point in the season since Barry Bonds in 2002. Well, we're going to get to all the young dudes and all the young dudes were in great form again last night together, which is always fun to see. But we said it the open of yesterday show and it obviously bears repeating. And I have a feeling we'll be able to open a lot of shows down the stretch the same way. He's probably I'm going to say he's more likely than not on his way to having the single greatest cumulative baseball season that any Baltimore Orioles player has ever had when you take all five tools into their totality and the fact he's batting lead off and how young he is and how difficult this division and the AL is this year versus the NL. Like, he's probably on that trajectory. It's also worth mentioning. He's 22. It's crazy what Gunnar Henderson is doing day in and day out. And you said it, Ken, it's just a five tool player where he can affect the game in so many different ways. I just got scared for a second. The Orioles did make a roster move. They were called Matt Crook from Triple A Norfolk. He will wear number looks like 65. Corbin Burns plays an opportunity list. And when I saw Corbin Burns, I'm like, Oh my God. Yeah, but obviously he'll miss a few days as he's having a baby. So, but yeah, I would think he'll be back soon. Crook is interesting to me. My guess is it probably would have been Nolan Hoffman if he just didn't pitch three innings the other day. Davidson, they're keeping the left either keeping as a starter down there. I believe he'll start today. He's been good. Crook has been, eh, but they like them. They picked them up in the off season. He pitched a fair amount this spring. I would say this though, it's more reason to have Albert Suarez on short hook because now your bullpen is even deeper, you know, with that extra arm. Yeah. Oh, I think Keegan Aiken. I think we're gonna see Keegan Aiken by the fifth inning tonight. We have a huge Friday show. Once again, we're at Pickles here for game two of the four game set against the Rangers across the street from Royal Park at Camden Yards. Guess why? It's Friday, our friend era Epstein from Fnatic Sportsbook get her best bets at three. Also our buddy Beltway Ben's best bets at three o'clock as well. Mo Hamilton covers the NBA for the sporting news. The draft just ended free agencies about to start. The Knicks have made monster moves. We'll talk NBA with Mocha 330. John Mey only covers the o's for the Baltimore banner at four. Jim Duquette former Orioles exec now with MLB network radio. We'll talk trade deadline at four thirty. A lot of trade deadline talk. A lot of Orioles talk. We'll look at the rest of the division and how their weekend series shape up. And of course, we're going to talk some Ravens in particular. Would it be a bad thing? Would it be counterintuitive? Would it be less than ideal? If Lamar Jackson even after signing Derek Henry was still the team's leading rusher again. Interesting thought coming up next though. UT's that Jason all the young dudes and they were swinging big bats last night. Has to incur stat Adley, Richmond, Colton, Calzer and much more all the young dudes next here on the fan. Cursed dad. Hammers went out to center to various trying to measure it, but it's gone. To run Homer by Heston Cursed dad. It's six nothing Baltimore. Get us going in the eighth inning that ball hit hard out to left center and that one is gone. Another Orioles Homer. Colton Calzer. We'll hear the moves again. Highlights courtesy of Rangers television. Heston Cursed dad. Two for three with a walk. A home run. Three RBI's of the RBI single in the first inning. Colton Calzer had two extra base hits and an opposite field Homer. Nice catch by Cino Perez with his hat in the in the bullpen. I want to get to the the Cursed dad Homer. And I was at the game last night sitting in the press box and when he hit that ball. The sound it made and the explosion from my angle coming off the bat. I was like holy crap. And then it just kept carrying because I was a Tavares center field acted like he had a beat on it first and he wasn't close. And then we were talking in the car Jason. Kevin Brown on the local broadcast kind of called it as if he thought it was going to get caught. Yeah, there was a lot of late carry going on. I felt like a Camden Yards all night. And yeah, he has special power from the left side. And honestly, like that that home run was awesome. And we were all excited in the living room watching. But I got to tell you, man, I love I love the base hit. I love the ground ball hard on the whole because his thing is like, all right, your launch angle and your powers, what carries you, right? That's your super, that's your your your your superpower. But like it there's a time and place for everything. And especially him, not sure if he's going to be in the lineup every night, damn skip, he better be in there again tonight, please. You could see a guy just trying to put wanting to pulverize everything. And frankly, when I saw him in Stratton, what is it going on three weeks ago? Yeah, exactly what was happening with him at triple A where he seemed downright bored and not challenged. So I really love that approach, honestly, because I know he can hit a ball 430 feet. Like I know he can destroy a fastball. I want to see how he continues to do against breaking pitches. Did you hear in the broadcast where Kevin Brown was like, that was called Calzer's like first extra base hit against like anything other than fastball. Yeah, yeah. Holy moly. So like, that's what I'm looking at. Like, you know, what can he do in certain situations where you don't necessarily need to drive the ball 400 feet? Can he let the ball travel go the other way, hit it hard on the ground, get things happening that way? And then yeah, the power is his calling card and all those kids, everybody, all the young guys had a moment at the plate yesterday where they could be the hero. And we're starting to see that with a little more regularity now. And something going back to that base knock with Kirsten with two outs. I mean, the importance of that in that situation was huge. And in right field last night, and the ball hasn't found him a ton when he's been feeling, but there hasn't been anything wrong. I mean, I was glad to see that. And you can go back to his first go around where I forget what city they were in, where I mean, it was just a routine grounder his way and he's misplaying and everything. So, I mean, there hasn't been anything negative defensively, even gay man. And I just catch the foul on the foul line last night and made a nice catch in left field. Yeah, the other night, Jordan Westbrook after the two outs single hits the two out double gets thrown out of third. I think he was trying to force the throw because it looked like he slowed down a little bit between second and third to make sure the run scored. But another clutch hit from Jordan Westbrook, which is like all he does is clutch hits. And Adley Ruchman, who looks like Ernie Witt sometimes from the left side because he goes down on one knee when he swings, he went out on one knee and took one over 400 feet for a home run. Yeah, I mean, Adley, home run, two driven in Heston, two for three, home run, three driven in Jordan, the two RBI double, which puts him on basically 100 RBI pace at the midpoint of the season. And then Calzer destroys a ball as well. All the young dudes got it done last night. Although, look, you know, if you want to take the other side of it, John Gray says he could have homered off himself last night. So maybe it doesn't count. Maybe we should put an asterisk next to this one. Because John Gray says he could have he could have pummeled himself. Yeah, dude, just say I sucked. Yeah, like, yeah, I sucked the name. Maybe look good. You look good. I came into the game with a 29 ERA against them in his career. He's looked good against them in the past. Just say, Hey, they, you know, they hit the they lead the league in homers like for a reason. And if I make those kind of pitches, then they're going to make me pay. By the way, they set a record for home runs in the month of June with the four home runs last night. And they have a couple more days. I think 61 is the all time record for home runs in the month of June. And they're at what 59 now? So they have a shot to catch. I think it was the Braves a couple years ago at 61 in a much on gray went five innings. Nine hits, one walk, eight or runs two home runs last night. Yeah, he he they got to him early and often it was good to see. Now tonight, it's a little different challenge, right? Scherzer's last time out. I frankly, it was far better than I thought it would be. And they didn't have to baby him as much as I thought they would because he was just so utterly pitch efficient that there was no reason to yank him until he, you know, got himself in position to qualify for a win. I don't know what his limit is tonight. I couldn't imagine guys. It's a whole lot more than 75 pitches. So can they make him have some long at bats early? Can they make him labor a little bit? Even if it's not from a scoreboard perspective, but just a pitch count perspective. And the first couple of innings to get Bochi's wheels spin and to make him have to start dipping back into a bullpen, which is a shell of what it looked like in the playoffs, not just against the Orioles, but what they look like against the Rays and everybody else moving forward, they're not getting those kind of outs from this group now. So get Scherzer out of there early. Good things should happen for sure. And I guess if there was one silver lining of Gray's start is Bochi made him wear it. Oh, yeah, he kept him in for five innings last night. But I, even though he's not a part of the young dudes, I feel like it's a daily occurrence. Now it's Cedric. Yes. I mean, he's batting over 400. I mean, he is back and he hit that into the flag court last night. What a three year game. He is he's back. Hey, it's not a bad problem to have it. Everybody off starts hitting all of a sudden like that. That that would be a great place to be. But yes, Cedric and Cedric, they were talking. I think it was an MLB network this morning. He's got a six month old kid. And yeah, it was Mark Duroza said he talked to him recently said he's finally getting some sleep. And I think that's getting getting his rest is definitely having an effect. You know, I think the world of him, he's my favorite player on this team. I was kind of losing my mind when people are trying to act like him going to Norfolk. What the hell is AAA pitching? This guy's a major league player. He's a he's an all star caliber player. It was a prolonged funk. It wasn't fun for anybody. But Calzer was in the same kind of funk at the same time. And Hayes was for a lot of it too. So like what? Well, you know what I mean? What do you call him? My man Billy Cook? Like there? Well, seriously, what's what was the solution? And let him play his way out of it. And he absolutely has. And now his confidence is is soaring. And I'll tell you what, if somebody grooves him something, the lower corridor of the inside inside the plate, he's going to golf it. He's going to golf another one tonight over the scoreboard. Like, it's pretty clear where his happy zone is right now. You said the word Jason confidence because we saw frustration boil over with him. Snap multiple times where Cedric Mullins, normally a very even keel guy. But I mean, you were talking about the struggles going back to the all star break of last year. And then the vast majority of the first half of this season. But these past couple weeks, man, vintage Cedric Mullins. Hey, I do feel like we also should mention I got hits in his first two of past last night, finished two for five, just a whole home day for Gunnar Henderson, who's now got a 34 day on Bay streak. And the batting averages up to 290. He is otherworldly, man. There's just not a whole lot of people on the planet. And really, frankly, again, in the history of the game, especially in the history of the game in their age 22 season, who are this complete of a baseball altering force from the lead off spot, from shortstop, when it matters most to start games and to finish games, right? Like this kid is an opener and a closer. We know what he's done in his career seventh inning more on. And and now he's on a historic pace as well, leading off games with home runs. It is it's absolutely sensational. I also say this, there is not, there are many beautiful things in life, but not many are as beautiful as watching Gunnar Henderson go from first to third on a base hit. He's like, he is a game altering force in every way, shape, and and and ability. Like he's, it's rare. It's exceedingly rare. Orioles and Rangers game two of the four game series tonight at seven Baltimore baseball tonight. Bob Haney, Ryan Rifkin live from here pickles at six o'clock and coming up next, Michael Iis, general manager of the Baltimore Orioles. He was in Norfolk earlier today and then back here at Camden Yards for the game last night, but he did that. But he's on that drive many times. Never that quickly. He might have had a special special route, but yeah, but he he joined the Norfolk broadcast yesterday and we'll hear what he had to say on many subjects. The trade deadline, Kobe Mayo and much, much more Jackson holiday. We'll hear from what he will hear what he had to say next here on the fan. I want to put that goal or expectation out there, but it's certainly a possibility. He's doing very well in double a he had a cup of coffee. So to speak in double a at the end of last year and then had a little bit of an arm injury going into spring training. We're past that now. So he's back catching hitting every day. The numbers are just going up and up. I think a little bit of our caution will be how young he is. He's 19 years old and he's very far ahead of the curve, but you know, Norfolk's the next stop and I don't see a reason if he's performing decently well to spend more than a calendar year in double a. That's Michael Iis part of the Norfolk broadcast yesterday during their game talking about Sam Bassio who is with with Jackson Holiday getting the promotion. He's now back in the minors, but of non-promoted players. Bassio the number one prospect behind Kobe Mayo in this system. Sam Bassio sounds like he'll be at Norfolk at some point. Yeah, I mean, he should be. He had the late start this year due to the injury and he couldn't catch for a while. So it was just DH in first base. Incredibly mature kid mentally, physically, all the way around. Now he left yesterday's game with what they're calling a lower body contusion. So we'll see, you know, if that actually becomes any sort of a setback, but I've talked about it in the past and we've talked about it in the in the recent past quite a bit. As we've chronicled this McCann and Adley Richmond catching situation, which is it's not quite one A and one B, but the backup catcher is a whole lot more than what you'd think a backup catcher would be in terms of workload catching when the other guys are one one. Bassio could be a really interesting yin to Adley Yang at some point next year. Yeah, I don't know anything, but I'm thinking that Sam Bassio could be an untouchable because of that reason. Jason, and we're going to get to the Jackson holiday cut in a minute, but I just think if at least deaching this much already at his age, you would think that there's only going to be an uptick the older he gets and having a guy, the caliber of a Sam Bassio prospect wise, I think that's something that this organization's going to covet. Well, let's since Bona alluded to it. Ben cut 12, Michael Ius, on trading Jackson Hollis. Is he untouchable? Evie got a little upset when you suggested trading Jackson holiday. I just noticed that, but it's a tough one to trade. We took him with the number overall pick and he's the number one prospect in Miami league baseball. This is a hard talent to get your hands on and we have him and we've been developing him and we've got very high hopes for him and he's exceptionally far ahead of anyone else in his age group. So, not something that we're going to be eager to explore. I think I hear it differently than you guys do. I think it's going to be very difficult to get Jackson. Hearing that cut actually hearing it, do I think they're going to trade him? No, but you have to find it interesting that he didn't just slam it shot. Oh, he didn't say this is a quarter of a rebuild and I can't imagine an Oreo's future without Jackson Hollis and it. This guy's a CEO at the Yale. This guy's super smart. He's been doing this job for five, six years now. This ain't his first rodeo. Like there's different ways you could message things. Like there's always the caveat to where you say we have no intentions whatsoever of trading that player. I haven't even heard that. Now, it still leaves you the open of somebody blows away. He didn't even say that. But I don't know. He didn't verbally take it off the table. Yeah, he doesn't want to do it. Yeah, I'm sure he doesn't think he'll probably do it. But as we get deeper into the landscape of the trade deadline and we'll, why don't we play the clip next where he talks about I can't make any trades. Yeah, it's too soon. But as it's no longer too soon, if his best option to try to win in the short and long term and his mind involves moving Jackson Holiday, who I'll just say is somebody else's shortstop, but not Michael Elias's. How could you rule it out? I'm glad he said what he said. I don't rule it out. I just don't. I don't know that there's the guy on the table. They might sure they'd have to get a massive packet of players. Absolutely to include Jackson Holiday in a deal. Ben, we're moving all around cut for Michael Elias talking about the team's biggest need at the trade deadline. Well, that's something that we're evaluating in terms of how we're going to approach this trade market. And you look at our own areas for upgrade. It's not a big secret that that would be on the pitching side of the equation, but it's driven so much by who's selling and which players are available and what are they asking for that we've got to learn more about the market. And it just hasn't taken shape yet. It's too soon. And there are too many teams in the hunt for that third wild card, especially in the National League. Like the National League has, other than the Marlin, unless you're an expansion team, Marlin's and Rockies, you think you're still alive. Well, look, we were playing clips of Corbin Burns after he went to arbitration with the Brewers two years ago, right? And I was like, that guy looks like a Baltimore Oreo to me. And then I was all over Hey, Zeus Lazardo and Hey, Zeus Lazardo's hurt again. And I haven't loved Hey, Zeus Lazardo this year. And I'm a little worried about his durability. The Miami Marlins are out of it. The Miami Marlins already traded their best hitter to the San Diego Padres. As opposed to a month ago, I think it was in May. Yeah, it was early. Ryan Weathers is dealing with a minor injury situation. He should be back very soon. I want Ryan Weathers. This kid is a former top 10 pick. His dad was David Weathers. I'm sure you remember him. JJ a pretty, pretty good MLB pitcher. He's been a little bit slow to develop. He's been a part of a couple of trades. That's the lefty that I feel like has turned the corner. He's not going to demand or command as much as Lazardo, but he's also not going to be cheap. Because you're getting three years of control. Yeah, whether you're talking about the Marlins or the White Sox or the teams that are definitively out of it. I think there's a deal to be made now. We had Mike Bordick on the show what a couple of days ago. And he made the comments saying, wouldn't it be great to see the O's first at the table when it comes to the trade deadline? That being said, that's not exactly their M.O. They're very meticulous about their progress, deliberate leading up to it. But I think there is something to be said to that. I mean, if you can be first, here's what they can't be. They can't be flarities. The only guy out there hasn't been dealt yet. Let's just get him now. Now that will be unacceptable. Absolutely unacceptable. More from Mike Elias. Orioles just came off a five game losing streak, cut sec, six Ben, Elias from the team's rough stretch. It feels like it's caught up to us a little bit. You know, we went through that five game losing streak and I don't, I don't know the exact statistics of the stretch, the stretch of play. But I'm pretty sure it was 43 games in 45 days, which is a lot. And then it comes kind of in this middle part of the season when fatigue's starting to set in. And then we also faced a hellacious slew of opponents at the same time. So it has been trying. I think it definitely caught up to us in Houston and Cleveland, or against Cleveland in the last couple of days. But we had a good win last night. We got the Rangers coming in. It's going to be a tough foe. So it's not over. And then the team gets an off down Monday, but they're using it to sleep in after a flight to the West Coast after a Sunday night baseball game. So there's really not a whole lot of rest on the horizon for this group. You know, luckily, we've got a very determined hardworking bunch that is doing its best to keep itself healthy and prepared. And you know, it's it's not easy playing in the major leagues. Rough stretch, they seem to be beyond it though, but we'll see because they got what they wanted and needed out of grace and in burns. And now we get the other part of the record. That's that. There you go. Yeah. Maybe the rough stretches cranking back up because if the Rangers are able to approach Suarez, anything close to how the Yankees did or the Astros did, this game could get out of hand quickly. Well, the book's out on and you've seen it with co-urban too, where opposing batters are ambushing these guys. They are going very early on in the count hacking away. And obviously the league has made adjustments to Albert Suarez now. He has to adjust to the adjustments. Let's hear one more. Cut 11, Ben. Michael Iis on Kobe Mayo. Yeah, I mean, he's he's at the level of talent and experience where, you know, you start figuring out ways to work him in because I do think, you know, he's ready, very close to ready for a major league challenge. You know, as we're seeing here today, swinging a hot bat even after missing a few weeks seems like he's in a good groove. The defense at third base continues to improve and it continues to move in the right direction. So he's one of the very best players that's in the minor leagues in all the baseball. And we're very happy that we have him. And he's so important that we're going to try to figure out the best thing for his development. And if that means getting some major league exposure, we'll figure out a way to do it soon. And you know, something that we've been talking about for over a month. And I was here a month ago, watching the team the day that he ran into the pole and broke his rib in the third base dugout. It was just a freaky bad luck, bad timing thing. But it's very encouraging to see that apparently he has a missed beat because he's been on a tear since his rehab assignment started in Aberdeen and then seems like he's picked up where he's left off. What happens first? Bone finds Mrs. Bone or Ramon Orias gets traded for anything gets traded for a middle relief arm so they can bring up Kobe Mayo. I think Kobe Mayo is up before Mrs. Bone is found. Oh, that's not even a fair fight. Kobe Mayo wins that. If that happened by 2026, Kobe Mayo wins in a row. So that's how that's necessarily how we should frame the discussion. But I mean, the kid now is homered in three straight games. He's got 20 home runs and 55 games at Triple A this year. He's got damn near 40 extra base hits. He's hitting for average. He's making pitchers work. And as Michael I said, the defense is coming. I would think Ramon would have to be the guy who goes. Yes. And people would say, well, Ramon's not playing that much. What does that mean for Kobe Mayo? Well, I think what it means for Kobe Mayo is you slot Jorge Mateo back into a super utility role and maybe he gets a this season. I want to put that goal or expectation out there but it's certainly a possibility. He's doing very well in AA. He had a cup of coffee so to speak in AA at the end of last year and then had a little bit of an arm injury going into spring training. We're past that now so he's back catching hitting every day. The numbers are just going up and up. I think a little bit of our caution will be how young he is. He's 19 years old and he's very far ahead of the curve but you know Norfolk's the next stop and I don't see a reason if he's performing decently well to spend more than a calendar year in AA. That's Michael Ayas part of the Norfolk broadcast yesterday during their game talking about Sam Bassiah who is with with Jackson Holiday getting the promotion. He's now back in the minors but of non-promoted players. Bassiah the number one prospect behind Kobe Mayo in this system. Sam Bassiah sounds like he'll be at Norfolk at some point. Yeah I mean he should be. He had the late start this year due to the injury and he couldn't catch for a while so it was just DH in first base. Incredibly mature kid mentally, physically all the way around. Now he left yesterday's game with what they're calling a lower body contusion so we'll see you know if that actually becomes any sort of a setback but I've talked about it in the past and we've talked about it in the recent past quite a bit as we've chronicled this McCann and Adley Rochman catching situation which is it's not quite 1A and 1B but the backup catcher's a whole lot more than what you'd think a backup catcher would be in terms of workload catching when the other guys are 1-1. Bassiah could be a really interesting yin to Adley Yang at some point next year. Yeah I don't know anything but I'm thinking that Sam Bassiah could be an untouchable because of that reason Jason and we're going to get to the Jackson holiday cut in a minute but I just think if Adley's DHing this much already at his age you would think that there's only going to be an uptick the older he gets and having a guy the caliber of a Sam Bassiah prospect wise I think that's something that this organization is going to covet. Well let's since Bona alluded to it Ben Cutt 12 Michaelias on trading Jackson Holliday. Is he untouchable? Evie got a little upset when you suggest that trading Jackson holiday I just noticed that but you know it's a tough one to trade I mean he you know he's uh we took him with the number one overall pick and he's the number one prospect in Miami league baseball you know this is a hard talent to get your hands on and we have him and we've been developing him and we've got very high hopes for him and he's exceptionally far ahead of anyone else in his age group so you know not something that we're going to be eager to explore. I think I hear it differently than you guys do I think it's going to be very difficult to get Jackson. Hearing that cut actually hearing it do I think they're going to trade him no but you have to find it interesting that he didn't just slam it shut. He didn't say this is a corner stone fire rebuild and I can't imagine an Orioles future without Jackson Holliday. This guy's a seed you want to yell this guy's super smart he's been doing this job for five six years now this ain't his first rodeo yep like there's different ways you could message things like there's always the caveat to where you say we have no intentions whatsoever of trading that player right how many times have you ever heard that now it still leaves you the open of somebody blows away he didn't even say that yeah but I don't know he didn't verbally take it off the table yeah he doesn't want to do it yeah I'm sure he doesn't think he'll probably do it but as we get deeper into the landscape of the trade deadline and we'll I'm why don't we play the clip next where he talks about I can't make any trades yeah it's too soon but as it's no longer too soon if his best option to try to win in the short and long term and his mind involves moving Jackson Holliday who I'll just say it is somebody else's short stop but not Michael Elias's how could you rule it out I'm glad he said what he said I don't rule it out I just don't I don't know that there's the guy on the table they might sure they'd have to get a massive package of players absolutely to include Jackson Holliday in a deal uh Ben we're moving all around cut four of Michael Elias talking about the team's biggest need at the trade deadline well that's something that we're evaluating in terms of uh you know how we're going to approach this trade market and you know you look at our own areas for upgrade it's not a big secret that that would be on the pitching side of the equation but it's driven so much by who's selling and which players are available and what are they asking for that we've got to learn more about the market and it just hasn't taken shape yet it's too soon and there are too many teams in the hunt for that third wild card especially in the national league like the national league has other than the Marlin unless you're an expansion team Marlin's and Rockies you think you're still alive well look we were playing clips of Corbin Burns after he went to arbitration with the Brewers two years ago right and I was like that guy looks like a Baltimore Oreo to me and then I was all over Hey Zeus Lazardo and Hey Zeus Lazardo's hurt again and I haven't loved Hey Zeus Lazardo this year um and I'm a little worried about his durability the Miami Marlins are out of it the Miami Marlins already traded their best hitter to the San Diego Padres as it was it a month ago I think it was in May yeah it was early Ryan Weathers is dealing with a minor injury situation he should be back very soon I want Ryan Weathers this kid is a former top 10 pick his dad was David Weathers I'm sure you remember him TJ a pretty pretty good MLB pitcher he's been a little bit slow to develop he's been a part of a couple of trades uh that's the lefty that I feel like has turned the corner he's not going to demand or or command as much as Lazardo but he's also not going to be cheap because you're getting three years of control with yeah whether you're talking about the Marlins or the White Sox or the teams that are definitively out of it I think there's a deal to be made now we had Mike Bordick on the show what a couple of days ago and he made the comments saying wouldn't it be great to see the O's first at the table when it comes to the trade deadline now that being said that's not exactly their MO they're very uh meticulous about their progress deliberate leading up to it but I think there is something to be said to that I mean if if you can be first here's what they can't be bone they can't be Flaherty's the only guy out there hasn't been dealt yet let's just get him now now that will be unacceptable absolutely unacceptable more from Mike Elias Oriel's just came off a five game losing streak cut sec sex bend uh Elias on the team's rough stretch it feels like it's caught up to us a little bit you know we went through that five game losing streak and uh I don't I don't know the exact uh statistics of of the stretch the stretch of play but I'm pretty sure it was 43 games in 45 days which is a lot and then it comes kind of in this middle part of the season when fatigue starting to set in and then we also faced a hellacious slew of opponents at the same time so it has been trying I think it definitely caught up to us in Houston and Cleveland or against Cleveland the last couple of days but we had a good win last night um we got the Rangers coming in it's gonna be a tough foe so it's not over and then the team gets an off-down Monday but they're using it to sleep in after a flight to the west coast after a Sunday night baseball game so um there's really not a whole lot of rest on the horizon for this group uh you know luckily we've got a very determined hard working bunch that is doing its best to keep itself healthy and prepared and you know it's it's not easy playing in the major leagues rough stretch they seem to be beyond it though but we'll see because they they got what they wanted and needed out of grace and in burns and now we get the other part of the record that's that there you go yeah I maybe the rough stretch is crank cranking back up because um if the Rangers are able to approach Suarez anything close to how the Yankees did or the Astros did um this game could get out of hand quickly well the book's out on and you've seen them with co-urban too we're opposing batters are ambushing these guys they are going very early on in the count hacking away and obviously the league has made adjustments to Albert Suarez now he has to adjust to the adjustments uh let's hear one more cut 11 Ben uh Michaelias on Kobe Mayo yeah I mean he's he's uh at the the level of talent and experience where you know you start figuring out ways to to work him in What happens first? Bone finds Mrs. Bone or Ramon Oreus gets traded for anything gets traded for a middle relief arm so they can bring up Kobe Mayo. I think Kobe Mayo is up before Mrs. Bone is found. Oh that's that come on. That's not even a fair fight. Kobe Mayo wins that and if that happens like 2026 Kobe Mayo wins in a round so that that's I know that that's necessarily how we should frame the discussion but I mean the kid now is humbered in three straight games he's got 20 home runs and 55 games at Triple A this year he's got damn near 40 extra base hits he's hitting for average he's making pitchers work and as Michael I said the defense is coming um I would think Ramon would have to be the guy who goes yes and people would say well Ramon's not playing that much. What does that mean for Kobe Mayo? Well I think what it means for Kobe Mayo is you slot Jorge Mateo back into a super utility role and maybe he gets a shot in center field or left field every once in a while plus spelling guys that's short or second Westburg slides a little more in the everyday second base role and you give Kobe Mayo the run that we think they're giving Heston Kirsten and left field and right field now third base I would say this I would be hesitant to have Heston Kirsten at home and left field the same day that Kobe Mayo is our third base and also Jason I think you got to consider the metrics with Westburg defensively a third base the second base or night and day where he's an elite defender at third and and very subpar at second but he's I feel like he's played sporadic sure second your hope is that with yep more regular work some of that gets cleaned up um but that's how you would do it right I mean that's how you have to coming up next here on the program we switched to football a little purple rain in the forecast and we asked the question who's going to lead this team in rushing next year is it Lamar Jackson or is it Derek Henry we'll discuss next here on the fam the explosiveness they've been looking for speaking of explosiveness Derek Henry in open field Derek Henry's gone vintage king and Henry for 29 yards and a touchdown yeah it really was a no-brainer for me this is where I knew I wanted to be I love the style the physicality that they play with on all three phases um I feel like it uh pits my style of play as well and um it was really a no-brainer just trying to figure out the the business side of things and glad we were able to get it figured out. Garrett Derek Henry scoring a touchdown against the Bengals last year on CBS and then Derek Henry at his press conference talking about coming to the Ravens with no-brainer he rushed for over 1,100 yards and 12 touchdowns a year ago but will he lead the Ravens in rushing this coming year of course Lamar Jackson has been the Ravens leading rusher almost every year since he's been here yeah I just think it's an interesting sort of thought process because I I don't know like the more I kind of churned this in my mind like is is Gus Edwards special or was Gus Edwards in a great situation all the way around like I guess we'll find out a little bit more this year with the Chargers but like oh he's back in the system. Gus Edwards was willing to pretty much sign a pretty no-frills deal right when he was going to be a restricted free agent to stay here like I don't know I'm old enough to remember Mark Ingram looking like one of the best running backs in the league for a season and then starting to hit the wall the next year and then being just a guy when he left here JK Dobbins was barely healthy when he was here like I don't know is he going to go to the Chargers and like the Royal Fire like I think he might be pretty effective but like I don't know that he's ever going to be a game changer yet this team is routinely leading the league in rushing yards in its totality and outside of Lamar no any individual has ever really had to carry that heavy of a load or ultimately carried that heavy of a load and I know it's built a different way now I guess about a thousand yards the one year he did he did the first year and he was good but like was he great I don't know he left here and he wasn't very good the second year and he was done and he didn't do really you know he just became a journeyman so I guess what I'm saying is if Derek Henry is not who they think they're getting if he's he looks more like a four million dollar back than a nine million dollar back and Lamar still ends up being the star in the running game I don't know that it's the end of the world and if they could put together a decent offensive line because of the value Lamar inherently brings by what the hell is he going to do with the ball in his hands I don't know that it's the end of the world if Lamar ends up rushing for eight hundred and fifty nine hundred yards and he is the leading rusher and as a team they are still very productive running the ball and it might be a kid we're not even talking about right now it might be a kid who's cut somewhere else and knows on the waiver wire who they really liked coming out of school three years ago who they scoop up in August I don't know man like Justice Hill got a chance last year to do more things just as hell look like the main guy for a while like Keaton Mitchell looked like a freak show for a while now I know he's got different athleticism and a different skill set and I don't think he's going to be the same this year he might not be the same next year and I don't think he's coming back nearly as soon as they would have you believe but I guess I if they whiftled Derek Henry and he's not close to being nine million dollars I don't think that means they can't be an effective team running the ball I agree with you there a hundred percent and they brought in that rookie Rishi Ali but he's got fumbling issues so we'll see how that happens and Keaton Mitchell I don't know what what to expect out of him but I'll say this Jason if if Derek Henry is not the leading rusher it's a disappointment of assigning in my opinion because if you're going 30 year old running back with thousands of carries under his belt he might hit the wall and absolutely but then that's a whiff because you gave him nine million dollars you're paying him if he isn't the leading rusher and Lamar has a year like he did last year 821 yards that is a miss of assigning and Henry rushing for over 1,100 yards last year double digit touchdowns if he doesn't repeat that I think let's let's let's say let's say Lamar like because I think Lamar's numbers are depressed last year 9.3 carries per game but I'm not even saying that the carries per game have to go up that much but like they weren't in that many spots where he had a default right to just hey Lamar see what you can do running the ball because the defense was obviously historic yeah the defense is going to be as historic so I don't think they're going to be up as big on teams the way they were so let's say Lamar rushes for 9.25 9.75 and he still leads the team in rushing you're going to be you're going to be fairly apaplectic about this I mean apaplectic I don't know about that but I like it would be a disappointment for me the signing um you're for me I'm expecting Derrick Henry to rush for 1200 yards next year that's why they signed him I don't disagree they got 1100 in a bad offense last year he's got Lamar Jackson behind him like and again if he doesn't if he isn't that guy then yes it's a whiff but I feel like they can squeeze one more season out of it I've said it a million times that's all the second year is irrelevant to me they're hoping they can get one what if they still run for 1750 1850 as a team and they're still in the top 10 or 12 you know what I mean and as a team their yards per carry is still decent like what if Justice Hill turns out that he's better than Derrick Henry this year and they still run the ball really well I totally understand your premise but I think we're talking about two different things I I'm I'm with you in the fact that this offense can still be successful if Derrick Henry isn't Derrick Henry I'm just saying if Derrick Henry is not the leading rusher on this football team that is a whiff of a sign if Justice Hill is better than Derrick Henry we got problems yes yeah we got problems I don't think it's out of the question that ends up being the case that's but then you've got the right to that opinion I don't see unless he gets hurt and that's possible and he is older he'd have he's healthy I don't see that happening then he's also a guy that doesn't get hurt well that's that's true of a lot of running back I know I know it's usually not it's usually not a slow death it's usually what happened to the guy we used to have no I hear you and I I don't think it's out of the question for him to duplicate what he did in Tennessee a year ago I think that's the expectation for me you know and and that that was the point of signing him now Greg Grant again is it possible that what you're postulating happened sure and 30-year running backs you know but that's the reason they signed him was the reaction to what we saw in the AFC Championship game where we've got a bunch of guys it's more the system and we're going to be pass happy you don't get pass happy when you have a healthy Derrick Henry now if he gets hurt and it blows up right back to where we started but that was the whole point of signing Derrick Henry well did they get their money's worth out of Odell Beckham I think they get anything close to their money's worth out of Odell Beckham. I think that's a different situation it was a huge problem I think they signed Odell Beckham to that money to help appease Lamar Jackson but he didn't get his money's worth out of him but they got it helped getting Lamar signed okay but you're right he football product no no but and was that anything close to a death no and and did Rashad Bateman step up with this monster season to fill the void he did not did anybody uh they flowers had a nice looking season but that was baked into the cake with where they took him yeah right but based on the quarterback is a freak show but based on first down wide receivers it's tough to bake anything into the cake with wide area yeah but look I'm just I don't know if I'm playing devil's advocate I'm just looking at a different way like they have swung and miss on offense for free agents with great regularity far more than they hit yeah and I'm just saying if that happens again can they overcome I still think if this offensive line gels a little bit and if Lamar stays healthy yeah and you have to defend Lamar in at the mesh point or just the fear of that I still think because again I'm just saying I don't think a lot of these dudes who've been through here are super special the market doesn't think there's no special or they would have ended up somewhere other than Raven's West and they were running for five five a carry hey gut they didn't just sign Gus that words in LA they signed jk dobbins also like these guys were out rushing Tennessee with their can read his prime yeah now I get it the systems change some but that stuff is still there these guys still know how to run it it still exists now whether or not they could get to it in a half time of a championship I don't know I don't know the process I'm getting to it you know we didn't run it this week so I don't know if we can get to it in time before season ends but it's there what was that word salad John Harbaugh said on the alawisha show up about like we had the plays we couldn't get to it we didn't have the ones to get to yeah even though at halftime you told what's your face on the sidelines we need to run the football more hey we're live at pickles across street from oral parking cambered yards coming up at six o'clock Baltimore baseball tonight Bob Haney Ryan Ripken they'll be right here at pickles but coming up next what's a Friday without our best bet segment we'll talk to Ariel Epstein from Fanatic Sportsbook and also our own Beltway Ben Hall get his best bets as well that's next here on the fan the explosiveness they've been looking for speaking of explosiveness Derek Henry in open field Derek Henry's gone vintage king and Henry for 29 yards in a touchdown yeah it really was a no-brainer for me this is where I knew I wanted to be I love the style the physicality that they play with on all three phases I feel like it fits my style of play as well and it was really a no-brainer just trying to figure out the business side of things and I'm glad we were able to get it figured out. Garrett Derek Henry scoring a touchdown against the Bengals last year on CBS and then Derek Henry at his press conference talking about coming to the Rams with no-brainer he rushed for over 1,100 yards and 12 touchdowns a year ago but will he lead the Ravens in rushing this coming year of course Lamar Jackson has been the Ravens leading rusher almost every year since he's been here. Yeah I just think it's an interesting sort of thought process because I I don't know like the more I kind of churned this in my mind like is Gus Edwards special or was Gus Edwards in a great situation all the way around like I guess we'll find out a little bit more this year with the Chargers but like oh he's back in the system. Gus Edwards was willing to pretty much sign a pretty no-frills deal right when he was going to be a restricted free agent to stay here like I don't know I'm old enough to remember Mark Ingram looking like one of the best running backs in the league for a season and then starting to hit the wall the next year and then being just a guy when he left here JK Dobbins was barely healthy when he was here like I don't know is he going to go to the Chargers and like the world on fire like I think he might be pretty effective but like I don't know that he's ever going to be a game changer yet this team is routinely leading the league in rushing yards in its totality and outside of Lamar no any individual has ever really had to carry that heavy of a load or ultimately carried that heavy of a load and I know it's built a different way now I guess about a thousand yards the one year he did he did the first year and he was good but like was he great I don't know he left here and he wasn't very good the second year and he was not and he and he didn't do really you know he just became a journeyman so I guess what I'm saying is if Derek Henry is not who they think they're getting if he's he looks more like a four million dollar back than a nine million dollar back and Lamar still ends up being the star in the running game I don't know that it's the end of the world and if they can put together a decent offensive line because of the value Lamar inherently brings by what the hell are you going to do with the ball in his hands I don't know that it's the end of the world if Lamar ends up rushing for 850 900 yards and he is the leading rusher and as a team they are still very productive running the ball and it might be a kid we're not even talking about right now it might be a kid who's cut somewhere else and knows on the waiver wire who they really liked coming out of school three years ago who they scoop up in August I don't know man like Justice Hill got a chance last year to do more things just as hell look like the main guy for a while like Keaton Mitchell looked like a freak show for a while now I know he's got different athleticism and a different skill set and I don't think he's going to be the same this year you might not be the same next year and I don't think he's coming back nearly as soon as they would have you believe but I guess I if they whittle Derek Henry and he's not close to being nine million dollars I don't think that means they can't be an effective team running the ball I agree with you there a hundred percent and they brought in that rookie Rishi Ali but he's got fumbling issues so we'll see how that happens and Keaton Mitchell I don't know what to expect out of him but I'll say this Jason if if Derek Henry is not the leading rusher it's a disappointment of assigning in my opinion because if you're going he's a 30-year-old running back with thousands of carries under his belt he might hit the wall. expectation for me you know and and that that was the point of signing him now Garrett again is it possible that what you're postulating I'm sure in and 30 year running backs you know but that's the reason they signed him was the reaction to what we saw in the AFC Championship game where we've got a bunch of guys it's more of the system and we're gonna be pass happy you don't get pass happy when you have a healthy Derek Henry now if he gets hurt and it blows up right back to where we started but that was the whole point of signing Derek Henry well did they get their money's worth out of Odell Beckham I think they get anything close to their money's worth out of Odell Beckham I think that's a difference it was a huge problem I think they signed Odell Beckham to that money to help appease Lamar Jackson but he didn't get his money's worth out of him but they got it helped getting Lamar signed okay but you're right the football product no no and was that anything close to a death no and and did Rashad Bateman step up with this monster season to fill the void he did not did anybody uh they flowers had a nice look he sees it but that was baked into the cake with where they took him yeah right but based on the quarterback is a freak show but based on first down wide receivers it's tough to bake anything into the cake with what I hear you yeah but look I'm just I don't know if I'm playing devil's advocate I'm just looking at a different way like they have swung and miss on offense for free agents with great regularity far more than they hit yeah and I'm just saying if that happens again can they overcome I still think if this offensive line gels a little bit and if Lamar stays healthy yeah and you have to defend Lamar in at the mesh point or just the fear of that I still think because again I'm just saying I don't think a lot of these dudes who've been through here are super special the market doesn't think there's no special or they would have ended up somewhere other than Raven's West and they were running for five five a carry hey gut they didn't just sign Gus that works in in LA they signed jk dobbins also like these guys were out rushing Tennessee with their cannery in his prime yeah now I get it the systems change some but that stuff is still there these guys still know how to run it it still exists now whether or not they could get to it in a half time of a championship I don't know I don't know the process of getting to it you know we didn't run it this week so I don't know if we can get to it in time before our season ends but it's there what was that word salad John Harbaugh said on the alawisha show up about uh like we had the plays we couldn't get to it we didn't have the ones to get to yeah even though at halftime you told uh what's her face on the sidelines we need to run the football more hey we're alive at Pickles across Street Memorial Park in Camden Yards coming up at six o'clock Baltimore Baseball tonight Bob
