at Tino coach you know radio it's crazy man just the way things are taken off you know and I'm so glad that I've been able to document everything like we literally rebranded is anyone listening podcast obviously still talking personal life and highs and lows but now you know doing the comedian interviews and talking about their ups and downs and I just love it because you guys have truly been able to see everything you know happened from the ground up and again we're only two months in and there's still such a long way to go but I mean so much has already happened it's just it's really wild so I hope to see you in one of the cities coming up this past weekend was amazing I mean if you guys started listening to this pod from the jump then you know the reason I finally decided to take comedy series believe in myself and push for it was for the homey concrete or because of the homey concrete he came to Phoenix and sold out stand up live I've known him for some years and when I saw the standing ovation that he got in this killer set that he did I was just like wow bro like he did it and again this is something that I've always wanted to do so I just said you know what I'm gonna do it and over the weekend in Bakersfield California concrete had a sold out show at the Fox theater yes you heard right a theater this man sold out a theater on his own doing comedy I was like bro you're the reason I started doing this I've got to come support the first theater show I want to be able to say I was there that way when you get that first arena show I'm like bro remember the theater remember the club like I just wanted to be a part of that it was historic for me so I booked a ticket and literally flew in just for that I landed at about 630 got to my hotel about 645 checked in by 7 and then I just walked a couple of blocks to the venue soon as I got to the venue I met up with the host who we're gonna have on the podcast by the way Edgar Rivera this dude is so funny man I met him twice now with concrete he's hosted the both shows and he's one of the best hosts I've ever seen just he gets it and not just a host he's a phenomenal comedian but he just he understands how to get a crowd going and I met up with him first walked up to the dressing room and then he was like bro I think they're gonna give you a couple minutes tonight and I was like what are you talking about like I'm just I mean I'm just here to support bro y'all don't have to do that he's like no no they already talked about it they're working it in then I saw you know concrete and management shout to Marty and shout to everybody man and just all the other comedians do know Jerry Garcia Oscar like everyone was so cool and no egos and bro they let me go up I did like three minutes and the crowd loved it man like I'm not just saying that to like sound arrogant like the laughs were there bro to feel laughs in a theater it's another I don't know how to describe it bro like it truly is like a high and it was just it was a hell of an experience man so just again shout to concrete and it's just the entire team everybody man was so cool and it was so dope to see concrete go out there and kill it and see you know his family and closest friends there and his wife like I could see how proud she was to him and it was just such a dope moment a shot to just you know the fans in Bakersfield that showed love and it was it was great and so I'm just I'm that was an honor to be a part of and again it's an honor for you guys to listen to this podcast and truly be along for the ride and just on this journey with me man it's crazy I wanted to read this DM real quick I keep it anonymous they asked me not to share but I feel like if it's anonymous no one knows who is from so it's all good it says Tino I listen to you almost every single morning when I take my daughter's a school and we heard about your is anyone listening podcast well I started listening and I had to say that you have been saying things I can relate to I've been in my relationship for nine years and I want to tell you that you know it's it hasn't always been the greatest however there's a lot of stuff that you say in your episodes that I can relate to and I just want to say thank you so much for talking about the things you talk about and I even heard you mention psychology today calm and I decided to go check it out and I want to go back to therapy your podcast has inspiring it's raw I've even been mentioned it to my boyfriend to listen and suggested that we go to therapy first individually and then hopefully we can go to couples therapy you're awesome and I often refer to your podcast to him when we talk I love that man like that's the thing like I know you some people were scared when we started like taking the direction of talking to comedians and stuff because they're like I just don't want this to be a jokey podcast and that's not it but it's just like one of my big biggest things like when I started there is anyone listening podcast originally like the throwback episodes if you guys heard those it was recaps of therapy sessions right and it was when I was at my lowest point that I've ever been in my entire life and to be out of that now and at a new high and so happy and and married and work is good and I'm chasing a new dream like I wanted to bring you again like I said I wanted to bring you guys along on that journey to show you that no matter how old you are you could chase something that you want to do you could pursue it or you could make it happen for you and I just I feel like it's a really important lesson to put out there but at the same time I still want to talk about you know before the interviews after the interviews or even depending on what it is I can work them into the interviews man if you guys have thoughts comments concerns questions whether it's about relationships or personal feelings or highs or lows or whatever it may be man reach out via Instagram @tinocoachealradio she'll be the DM I'm the only one that reads them and I will do my part do my best to address it for you and and still keep giving you that positivity that you need while at the same time hopefully motivating you to you know chase your own dreams and see it through so with all of that being said she just been waiting this whole time just looking on the screen like can we talk ladies and gentlemen please welcome to the is anyone listening podcast Leah Lamar we're in business now baby we didn't we didn't sorry for sorry for keeping you waiting oh that's usually supposed to be my job to guys but that's fine well just we'll dive right in before before any business talk how is just how is life how are you right now gonna be honest and although I'm in New York City god it feels so trashy saying this but babe I'm in flow right now it's like you can take the girl out of LA but you can't take the LA out of the girl I'm like the energy in New York is so good right now I just feel like my aura is like bursting with colors it's I just need if you can just mention anxiety and gaslighting one time then we'll have the full Gen Z experience right now sorry you're acting like my toxic ex and I really prefer if like you respected my boundary thank you ah that was my impression of a TikTok therapist thank you that's my time we did it that's why we're talking to her this week everybody I thought I don't know why I thought you were like living in Paris now it seemed like you were there forever I love that for me that's so great I was there for a very fast and furious two days and if we're honest I flew to Paris on one hour of sleep because I never got accustomed to London time zone so I was going to bed at like 6 a.m. every day in London had a flight at like 8 a.m. so basically I did not sleep went straight to Paris took like a one-hour nap which is almost worse than not napping at all and then when and did an hour show oh my god I know I and then the second day I I basically slept through an entire day in Paris I woke up at like 5 30 p.m. and then when and did another show but I do love that it feels like I live in Paris that's a good look for me I'll take it for I guess I should do a background too we had like briefly met like we follow each other on IG but we've never met in person but we had briefly met because we like did an audition to host the show what was it for was it the Roku thing it was for the Roku thing we were doing auditions to be hosts of a like TV Guide show basically did you ever follow up on that I never heard anything I was gonna say I didn't get it that's how I know no I didn't get it either but you know I checked to see who did because I'm petty like that and they cast who they already had on the show what it makes no sense like there were already Roku hosts who had done season one of that show and they I don't know why they even held the auditions honestly I was excited I thought it was gonna be a cool little look same me too and also I was like oh we got great chemistry I was like 110% we got this in the bag I thought so too and then I got no call back or anything and I was like ah I couldn't believe it so I don't know your like background like that like what like what even gave you the like comedic itch and at what age like did you was that even what you wanted to do it first or like what what's kind of like the the background oh my god no I think that was probably like lowest on my totem pole of things I wanted to do I wanted to be a doctor oh wow I know and then apparently I was just like too stupid it's so crazy so but you know what they say laughter is the best medicine so here aren't I a doctor I'm a doctor of laughs baby I love that I was a classically trained actor and I was all about musical theater and doing live stage plays I mean I'm born and raised in New York and then someone was like you know I think you'd be really good on TV like have you tried film either you know you you're really you look beautiful in camera like you should give a try and I was like oh my god are you hitting on me and then they're like yeah you should go to LA give it a try see what happens so I go to LA and I know it sounds insane but I booked everything I auditioned for like right off the bat and I was like oh my god LA is so easy I can't even believe this like people say it's so hard and what happened was that I just had that like new placenta glow about me that new placenta new placenta by Dior yeah yeah do you are if you want to sponsor us we're not gonna be mad about that um you know basically I I think I just had that new car smell and so everyone's like book book book book book book book I had no fear just going in crushing I booked every commercial like it was so crazy and then cut to like a year and a half after I get there almost comically it's like couldn't book anything and I was like what happened it was such a weird feeling and a friend of mine set up a meeting for me with a casting director and she and I talked for an hour when we were laughing having a great time and at the end of the conversation she's like Leah I just want to let you know you're more funny less pretty and I was like oh my god you think I'm funny no and it told you that before no literally no I was doing all dramas and oh shit well you know what I was like the funniest guy in my group chat sort of thing got it yeah just a crushing in the group chat I mean people told me I was funny but I didn't think that you would use it for anything I never thought about comedy as a genre for me and when I look back on that conversation I understand what she meant like I wasn't like an 18 year old model likes and dia you know then they've there's so many hot girls and they're like everyone's so hot I'm attractive like I'm not saying you know I have no self-esteem or whatever but she was like if you're funny and good-looking people will see you and yeah just it gives you something different from what everybody else has everyone else is based on looks you're like look I got the looks but I also have personality yeah I think that's how I won my husband over how did how did you guys meet I was I was like tuck and rolling out of a classic toxic LA fuck boy relationship with a guy who was just like not saying it's on the table but I'm not saying it's off the table you know like we'll we'll circle back and see how we feel and I'm like no I know how I feel broke and normally what I would have done was I would have just like waited for the bus to explode before getting off the highway sort of thing and I would have like let the relationship just keep going and going and going until like the family on the bus died you know what I mean but instead I was like maybe we should get off the highway I was like I actually don't think this is gonna work for me and he was like what do you mean and then he freaked out which not gonna lie felt so nice and why are guys like that why do we do that it's like the guys want to play the game as if it's all good and then when you're actually like you said ready to get off the bus and it's like wait what do you mean what do you mean I can work on it you know why it's because now the option has been taken away and it's all just ego and I was like you don't want me you just felt like you lost and you don't want to lose damn that's deep so you get out of this wild world and then where does hubby ask - Ibiza oh damn okay yes we found love in a hopeless place I love it well so make a song about that yeah I wonder and my friend had this villa in Ibiza and he was like you should just come before you go to Dubai you're already gonna go so far to the other side of the world you might as well just make a pit stop and I was like yeah might as well go to Europe you know a white woman in Europe who would have thought so so I get there and if you can picture this I'm miserable I'm like crying in front of my private pool over my axe I'm like eight Instagram stalking him and I'm the one who walked away and I'm still it's because it was the first time I I walked away from something without feeling done I felt like I had to end it so it was just such a bittersweet feeling because I stood up for myself but also I really didn't want to and then like three days in my friend was like I've had enough of this I invited a Jew for you I'm Jewish and I was like dude that's so anti-Semitic you can't assume all Jews are gonna like each other just because we're Jewish and he was like no it's gonna be great I'm gonna push you together and I was like dude this is gross and then he showed me his photo and I was like push us together it's been how long now two years that's a win well we got married in seven months yes ladies I will teach you how to get it done I talk about that so funny I'll talk about that in my set the way my wife and I did it we we had technically known each other since 2017 through like work stuff but never like personally hung out like that or anything it was kind of just like hi-bye and we started dating in October engaged in November married in February like we pop pop pop I don't know if you feel the same way but a lot of people used to tell me and this would annoy the fuck out of me but they'd be like when you know you know and I'd be like shut up until it happened to me and then I was like when you know you know you know it's real though and there's no other way to describe it it's like I knew immediately like I was like in my mind not only do you check every box you surpass everything I've ever wanted like I don't see any competition anything else outside of you like this is it what else would I wait for or think like oh maybe I can do better like no I can't I don't feel like I can this is it I want to go with it and apparently she felt the same because we literally just I mean we picked up went to Vegas and elope just knocked it out hell yeah yeah I mean we essentially did that I went the first moment I saw him I've had um I've had love at first sight before which I now realized was just like lust at first sight because it was the crazy butterfly feelings but really was just like my it was just my nervous system going into fight or flight and feeling chaotic energy which I was used to in all my past relationships but with him I felt calm and my thought was oh there you are so how is work life for you how is business right now I mean it feels like you're thriving but how do you feel with just everything that's going on for you right now thank you for explaining how the illusion of Instagram works she's miserable she's miserable it's it's funny because life is actually really great right now I feel so good I've been I was doing shows in Europe which is amazing just being able to go to a foreign country and do comedy in English and for there to be an audience for that is a really cool feeling do I wish I spoke other languages and can perform in their native language absolutely but I am an uncultured American aren't we all right like to me I'm like I speak French that's macadole mouths right really really pathetic levels all so so basically I feel really good I've been working on a bunch of projects right now which I'm excited about the one thing I've learned about this industry is to never talk about something until it's finally on the screen because every time I talk about something it just never happens or I get randomly cut out and so anyway moral of the stories things were good I've got a couple things in the works and I'm very excited about I'm kind of like moving back into acting and I'm writing a movie with a friend and doing like tons of stand-up and so working toward putting out a longer special hopefully really soon what's a what's a normal like set time for you right now I mean I know you said it in Paris you do an hour right probably like 20 minutes you know I'm doing whatever stage shot I can to make sure that I get the tightest hour to put out my my put my best foot forward right now which I'm really excited about and then I'll probably just start going and doing like one night soon all around the US how long did it take you to get an hour well I've already done and I've this is like a new hour than I'm doing like when you first started like getting into it obviously like that so for me like this is something I've always wanted to do my entire life and finally I just worked up the courage to say fuck it the only way to do it is to do it and if I fail I fail but I'll learn from it and grow and that's like kind of where I'm at right now so I'm I'm really taking advice from everybody so like when you were first getting into it and working and hustling for your first hour how long did it take you to get there when did you know you were ready to commit to an hour well first of all I'm when I saw that you were posting stand-up clips I was so happy because I was like this dude is so funny he should be doing stand-up and now you're doing stand-up which I fucking love thank you like this is this is great news I love this but I it's crazy because I just like ate shit for a few years when I think okay so so actually when I was in Paris after one of my shows a guy was there and he was like I saw you at your first show in LA eight years ago and I was like because in my mind I'm like no there's someone who remembers the jokes I told at my first show like I want to die thinking about that I was like so glad they weren't recorded because when I think about how bad those jokes were like really really comedy you know but it's like you have to get you have to just like work and work and work until you it's like basically you have your A jokes your B jokes your C jokes and so like when I started I probably had like two jokes that I would consider A jokes and then the rest of them were like filler or fluff and like I would keep trying to make them better and then as I did more stage time and got better jokes I'd replace those jokes with better jokes that's what snow like interesting to me and I feel like what's so so much fun is like I have like my rough little concept from the jump and then each show is just like okay this work this didn't work well I could change this or I can add this here make this bigger and make this longer and pause here and it's like every time it just a learning experience and I can't wait for the next one because I just I don't even have a like a feeling of off I flop fuck it doesn't even feel like that it just feels like yo if it doesn't work I'm gonna see what I can work on to make that next one better it's like there's this continuous like grow growth I guess the fact that you feel that way already is such a good thing because it takes people years to feel that way people will feel so married to what they have because they're so afraid to be seen trying and failing you know I know I know a lot of comics who are high level who will sandwich a new joke in between two jokes that they know work already to try it out yeah so that so that if it bombs at least you know you can recover immediately with something tried and true but I mean two years ago I did the Edinburgh Fringe and I did that's when I did it wasn't when I did my first hour but that's when I did my first hour in repetition like the same show over and over and over and over and it was the first time I was proud of it that's dope yeah so that took me like six years I want to close it for we close it the same every week for anybody that's listening and they might just be at their lowest point or maybe they're they're grinding and they're working hard but they keep hitting these roadblocks and they just can't seem to get the yes they're looking for clearly you're thriving now and you're working on movie scripts and shows and and booking shows out of the country and doing all of this but I'm sure it hasn't always been great when you are at your lowest point how did you get out of that or what kept you motivated okay this is a great question I love it because not only has the road been inconsistent but even when you're at your highest high there are still lows and I think people forget that that it you know especially because more tracked in Instagram world so everything is comparing to spare and people are only posting their highlights they're not showing the worst parts of their life unless they're setting up a GoFundMe because they've hit rock bottom but like you are only seeing the best of everyone else's life so number one like never compare yourself to someone else's journey and number two definitely not from their social media because they are not letting you know what's really going on like and how they say in LA a guy will pick you up in a Bugatti just to drop you off at his shed like you really just don't know what's going on so that's number one eyes on your own paper stay in your lane and I know this probably sounds really dumb but being my authentic self like when I was at my like rock bottom the thing that I noticed was that I was trying to be what other people wanted me to be and I had it I had to get really raw and real with myself and strip all of that away and just be like who is Leah what does Leah want and how do I embody that now today how do I today say I'm hilarious I have everything I need in life and everything that's meant for me won't pass me by I've got a higher power God whatever you want to call it and I know it wants the best for me and so I go right into gratitude because the second that you put out an energy of like oh I need this I want this I can't have this I know why don't I have this why is it that person not me it's like an icky energy that keeps everything good away from you and there's nothing you can do about it so you have to get back into an energy of gratitude and be like okay you know what I got a roof over my head my hair looks good today like I got food to eat and the second you get into gratitude and authenticity of who you are your life starts to get so much bigger again and it works so quickly and I try to be of service so like if I'm feeling really low I'll go volunteer that's big of you well every now and again you know if you could cut that out thank you yeah I appreciate the time I really do like I know I just reached out like hey want to do this so thank you for for being down are you kidding me for I think you're so cool and I'm so jazz that you're doing stand up I feel like we're gonna see each other in a random city and be like yeah we're into a show together I'm really stoked about that maybe a win how yeah yeah for sure Roku is gonna call us back to host their show they're like oh my god did you see that podcast episode with them where their wifi didn't work we got to get them on a show I'm hopeful I'm hopeful too and I'm very grateful for this podcast as some might say so great to see you
