And man, it's good to be here with you guys this morning. I'm gonna go ahead and start the show by kissing our beloved. Ooh, rally roach, you did it again for us last night. This team is unbelievable. Can't wait to talk about it, break it all down. A lot of interesting things happen around baseball last night, but we get our heads right in the first segment of the day. And we call it foreplay, just a way for us to get loose. I'll tell you right now, I'm dragging ass. And I don't really know why I have a theory, but got plenty of sleep, you know, went to bed at a decent time, slept really well. I think I slept too well, I'm dragging ass this morning. So I'm trying to summon something out of my belly to get it going. And it's just been a long week already, man, but a good week. A good week indeed. I'm Woodsy, that's Paul Rindel. He's the executive producer. Good morning, Paulie. Have these 640 starts felt like 10 minutes starts after the East Coast trip. Yeah, I said that the other day before you got back, it was like it feels late. And I get a lot, I got to get a lot done before. I mean, it wasn't anything crazy last night. I think like a post game show ended at like nine thirty. Yeah, well, and we'll talk about that. The post game show is kind of part of the reason that I wasn't able to fall right asleep and that's kind of exactly right. Exactly why. And so I was up, I was up to like 10 15, which is not that bad, but I woke up to the alarm this morning and that never happens. Ever I'm 4 12 and I'm like, I had no idea where I was. It was crazy to my left is your friendly neighborhood sports anchor Benjamin Higgins. Good morning Benjamin. Good morning, Woodsy. Good morning, Paul. Missed you yesterday. We did miss you, Paulie. Yeah, I missed you guys. We had a great time. Paulie has a bum ankle and heard it playing basketball. Now we had originally, we were scheduled to play golf with Adam Jones. It was going to be the four of us and Paulie had already said, I mean, I want to hang out with a J is the best. I want to hang out with a J. I probably won't hit many shots. I'll just kind of hang and maybe if it feels good, I'll swing a little bit, put a little bit. I'm like, hey, I'll ride a long problem, but that's not a smart idea. It's not fun. Thank you. Bum ankle too is one of those. There's a couple of different things. You're not going to be able to get your way through around a golf with. You know, when my wrists were really hurt, I would hit the ball and the club would fall out of my hands. It's not fun. So we talked to our buddies, Matt Janella, and John Ashworth, who owns and runs Goat Hill. And we talked to them and they said, we'd love to play with you guys. Neither of them had ever played Encinitas Ranch. I think Ash had. Oh, absolutely. It had been a long time. But Janella had never even played Encinitas Ranch. So we go out to Encinitas Ranch yesterday and it's this dude on my left here, Benjamin, now I'm not a good golfer. I'm like a 15 handicap, maybe more. And Ben says, no, we'll play you guys straight up. And I'm like, why would you play straight? It's like going to a casino. And they're like, yeah, I'll give you $5,000 credit. And you're like, I don't want it. I'm good. I'll win plenty. I'm like, what are you doing? Take the money, take the credit that the casino is giving you. And let's go out and win some more money. You're like that. Straight up on the PGA Tour. When you're playing real golf, you're playing straight up on, there's a reason they're handicaps. I trusted you. Oh, my God. I knew you'd come through. Yeah. John's like a three, I think. And Mattie's like an eight. Like a five and I'm a 15, so we were definitely at a bit of a disadvantage, but I felt confident in your abilities, in my abilities, to take them on. Oh, my God, man. Well, so we had our match and it was actually really fun for a while. And we played straight up for a while, but something happened that I had to, I've got to share. I have to share this with the audience. And you know what it is. We had played six holes, six. And as Ben has been known to do, from time to time, he gets very into the round, right? And I feel like you put your Jim Nance hat on and you start just calling the action. If this show goes south, literally go quit TV, quit and this doesn't work, go to the golf network and be like, I'll start at the bottom. Look me, you act as though I haven't thought about that. Put me, I'll call the amateur tournament in Wichita. Give me the mic. There's no one better than me at this. This dude starts commentating. In fact, I'm on his team. I'm about to hit a drive. He's still commentating. I shake my drive and I go, God, Ben. Now it's not like he's not just sitting off to the side and he's like, Steve wants for no, no, no, no, he's not calling the match, but it's like this re like, how would you describe it? Yeah, it's more of a big picture overview of everything that's going on. We've talked about in the past how, you know, you have, remember we talked, we did like two days worth of shows on the internal monologue. The internal monologue. Ben has an external, you know, I'm laying out the, you know, like the fly over of each hole because Matt hasn't played it. So I'm like describing, okay, here's what you're facing here coming up on the seventh hole. You've got a blind tee shot right over the top of the hill where you're going to want to lay it up to about 215 yards. That'll, maybe it was about a eight or seven iron into a downhill green on the second shots. And I just like to make sure that everyone knows where we're at. And I feel like I'm help, I'm trying to be helpful. Did I, was I a little too helpful and may have impacted that one swing of yours? Fine. Yes. I did. I apologize. Now, there's the Matt Janela said something that I wish so I'm, I thought up. That's why I didn't sleep well. I sat up all night thinking about how mad I am at myself for not coming up with this nickname. When I shank my drive, that Janela called Ben, Ben Scully and I almost died. I all, I was convulsing with laughter and I go, I go, you have got to be kidding me. You know, he did a lot of golf announcing. Did he? Did the baseball season, yeah, he called some of the, like the grand slam of golf. Had no idea. It was a big event. Absolutely. It was a golf announcer. It's, it's been, it's been Scully who, yeah, again, you would have listened to him read the encyclopedia. It wouldn't have mattered. He was a legend, certainly. And I had no idea he called golf. I bet he was phenomenal. He was. He was. He was. Outstanding. When Matt Janela goes, Hey, all right, Ben Scully, I was like, well, that's it for me. I go, Maddie. That's one of the greatest lines I've ever heard. So I, I texted Polly that immediately and I said, Polly, get to work immediately. Ben has no idea that I even did this. I go, this is what just happened. I almost crap my pants from laughing. Get to work. Paul, all Polly wrote back was on it and it was so good. So I, I haven't heard this. I have no idea. We live in a brave new world of artificial intelligence and ladies and gentlemen. Here he is. Hi, this is Ben Scully. It's time to play some golf. Did you cross our voices together? How did that work? I mean, it's, it's kind of a magician never reveals. Hi, this is Ben Scully. It's time to play some golf. I good afternoon everybody and welcome to Encinitas Ranch for today's four ball match between Steven Woods and Ben Higgins versus John Ashworth and Matt Janela. Hi, this is Ben Scully. It's time for Ben and Woods. Brought to you by Farmer John. So, so I ended up taking it another step further and I thought, okay, well, our favorite thing or fan and his golf monologue and take us back to that round that you played two and a half months ago and go through. How was the first hole for you and give us a shot by shot recast? This is identical. So I asked Ben Scully about his first hole yesterday at Encinitas Ranch. Hi, this is Ben Scully. It's time to play some golf. Yesterday, we played at Encinitas Ranch. It was a beautiful San Diego day with highs in the upper 70s. The first hole was a par four dog leg right. I struck my driver pretty well, hitting it about 250 yards. That left me with about 100 yards to play with. My approach shot felt great when I hit it, but it rolled off the green. Dang it. I chipped onto the green and gave myself about a 10 foot putt. It was a left-toe right putt with the sun in my face. As soon as my putter hit the ball, I knew I was short and this would be my first bogey at the round. That's pretty much accurate actually. Well done. The dang it got me in there. I heard a, again, I heard a live one yesterday and when I hear, I heard two. When I hear a Ben drop live in the flesh, it's my favorite. I heard a dang it and then I heard a yes after like I made a putt or something. It was absolutely. Dang it. Dang it. My approach shot felt great when I hit it, but it rolled off the green. Dang it. Dang it. My stomach hurts, bro. Ben Scully. I was like, Janela, you son of a bitch. That's the greatest. I go, how do I never thought of that? The second hole was much better. As I pulled my seven iron out of my Callaway bag, I very much wanted to get back to even par with a birdie. I struck a high, soaring shot into the cloudless Encinitas sky. The ball hit the green and had a perfect amount of backspin thanks to my chrome tour triple track ball. Why Callaway? Simply the best. I was about four feet from the hole and putted my way to a birdie. I'm going to pass out. Maddie Janela, thank you for that. Oh, man. Thank you for that. I'll never forget it. As long as I live, the line that was just great, Maddie, is cold as ice. Well, you had a really fun day. It was a beautiful day. I played. I played. Look, I had one arm tied behind my back. I lost the time there for a little bit, but got it back on my nemesis hole 17 where I always hit it in the water and I stuck this thing 10 feet. We made par. We needed it and we needed it and we won the match. No, ever. I never got paid. Did you get paid? No, we got a rematch, so it's just hanging out there because they requested a rematch, so we will wait until we were able to schedule the rematch. All right. But I had a great time, man. We had a blast driving around and getting some time, and I was a little bummed. I missed, you know, I missed drop off for my first grader yesterday and, well, I missed pick up as well because I was playing golf my friends, but my first grader, Bo, started yesterday. You call? I heard you call him on the course. You got an update. He went pretty well. Couldn't have gone bad. It just couldn't have gone better and he came home now that the funny part is, you know, he's back in school for one day. Stays up till about 745, 8 now, 705 dude is sacked. So I'm going to thumb, sacked and I go welcome back to the school year, baby. So put him right to bed. Everything was great. It was a great day. Always fun playing with those guys. They are just just just a fun, it was just a fun group. We had a really good time and we did win. So congratulations. Thank you. Thank you very much. It was a lot of fun, but Ben Scully, Ben Scully is one of my favorite things ever. Are you? That's a good one. That is. Yeah. That's a good one. Even I had to acknowledge, even though it was at my expense, I was. Yeah, but you're like, damn it. That's right. That's right. Now does it sting more coming from Janela or me? Janela. Because Janela is like, he's like the coolest, so like, you know what, you know, if Janela gets you, you're like, oh, he hears it from me all the time, but like Janela, when he gets you, you're like, damn, that's supposed to be my safe space. That's your safe space. Yeah. That's like, uh oh. No trouble. He came up with, he came up with. I tripped onto the green and gave myself about a 10 foot putt. It was a left to right putt with the sun in my face. As soon as my putter hit the ball, I knew I was short. And this would be my first bobby of the round. Booby. It's brilliant, dude. It's not like a hundred percent, but you know what? Pretty close. This is radio. It's theater of the mind. So dang it. That is about as good as you can get. Dang it. Dang it. Dang it. Dang it. Dang it. It's elite. It's late, man. It's such a fun day. So anyway, let's, and then you get home. You, uh, you know, you get the dinners going, you get whatever. And then the game comes on. And here we go again. The San Diego Padres grit squad shows up once again. And then the fireworks post game. We'll have all of it for you. I can't wait to talk about all of it for you today here on Ben and Woods. We'll set the menu when we come back a bit of a modified big league Wednesday. We'll explain what that means and get you ready for our midweek version of Ben and Woods. Kelly Danics got our check of traffic and then I don't go away. It'd be a really good one this morning as the Padres continue on their role on San Diego's number one sports station, 97 three, the fan. Wednesday morning here on Ben and Woods would see you, uh, you said he had one more thing you wanted to include in our foreplay like to wish my mother, Marcia Woods, a very, very happy 70th birthday, talked to her on the way in this morning. Yeah, she's doing really good. Good. No, she had the lumpectomy surgery a couple weeks ago. She go back in to get a couple of more things taken care of a little bit more painful this time, but she is such a, um, she's so strong, man. She's always been so strong. So happy birthday, mama. Love you very, very much. Happy birthday. Would not be here without you, obviously, but like literally and and metaphorically, like I wouldn't be sitting here today if it wasn't for her and her support and she's just the best. So happy birthday, mama. Love you very much. She's a great, great mom, great grandmother, great friend. She's talking this morning. She's got like 40 groups of friends that she has to like everybody wants to do something for. She's like, I'm just, I'm kind of running down right now. I go, my get it. Can I give you, you have the book club and the bridge group, all the church group and all of her old friends. She's her best friends are still from elementary school and high school. You know, so, um, she's just a very special person. So happy birthday. I'm gonna love you so much and have it have a great, great day. Wish we were there. All right. Outstanding. Are you ready for the menu for today's show? Hand it out. Yeah. I would like to hear Ben Scully read the menu actually for today since we have him here and we're gonna, you know, abuse it as we do. So what does Ben Scully think we're gonna do today? Welcome back to Ben and Woods. It's time to set the menu for today's show. We will get to our Padres wrap up in our next segment after that. It's time for take on woods. Well, if don't do this at 7 20 today and chat with our beloved Brett Boone at 8 35. Then at nine o'clock, we will get Paulie's top stories of the morning before we turn our sights to this afternoon's series finale between the Padres and the Pirates. They're feeling kind of, um, you feel like replaceable? In theory. Yeah. I was gonna say like when you have a chance to get Ben Scully instead of Ben Higgins, I think you take it. I mean, it's pretty good. It's pretty, pretty good. Yeah, that is, uh, that's essentially to menu for today's show. Thank you. Thank you Ben Scully for that doesn't exist. Why has Ben even there maybe started a vacation early right now? We're supposed to start at this afternoon, but maybe I just leave now and get going on staycation. Um, uh, if you are wondering about Adam Jones, he will join us tomorrow. Paulie said he's doing some traveling today. I just saw his tweet on his way to Milwaukee who wants to play around a golf tomorrow in Milwaukee. Why are you going to stand them up to, uh, so that's cool, but he will join us. What time is he going to be on tomorrow? Same time, same time, seven thirty five tomorrow, but we do have a, as Ben Scully said, Brett Boon will join us at eight thirty five on a big league Wednesday. And of course we'll be talking a lot about, uh, Padres baseball and I think got to bring up right away 18 and three in the last 21 games now. That's the best stint in franchise history again. Uh, Padres have never won 18 of 21 games ever. And that's over 55 plus seasons of, you know, thousands and thousands of Padres games. This is as good as it's ever gotten. I, it's hard to believe that, yeah, in that many years, this is as good as it's ever gotten. You just sit down and you expect a win to happen as you're watching these games. I've all been blowouts last night wasn't one either. They've been close, but they found a way to win, uh, much more often than not since the all-star break. Well, what's been so encouraging is how many times have we set over the last four years, call it, Hey, you got a stretch here where you really got to get some wins on your belt. Yeah, they, you know, hey, yeah, and they don't, they don't do it. Yeah. And while yes, the Dodgers keep winning and the Diamondbacks keep winning and you're not, you're not sliding, right? Because we said at the end of July, Hey, coming up in August, you have a lot. I mean, a lot of winnable games. Yeah, you're playing like 19 and 20 days or whatever that stretch is, but a lot of winnable games and they have played so well. You got to stack dubs in this part of the year. Now again, I do see a lot of people talking still about man and this Italian Paul did some long diatribe about, well, see, this is why it sucks that you're winning because the Dodgers were broken. The Diamondbacks were dead and buried and you didn't make up any ground. You never, it never sucks to win. It never sucks to win. You can't do anything about what is this pass. All you can control is if you win that day and the potteries have really taken that mentality of saying, let's win today's game, find a way, scratch claw, whatever we got to do to do it. Is it the most ideal way to do it? No, it's not, it's not, but it counts. Those are wins every single time. We don't complain about wins in here and I'm just, I'm very impressed, very impressed not after night. It's a different person that steps up. Well, while you can focus on the fact that they haven't really picked up ground the last week on the Diamondbacks or Dodgers or any ground on the Diamondbacks in the last three weeks because they've been just as hot quietly though. Now they've started to put some separation between themselves and other teams. Correct. You know, I was listening to Sammy's post game show and he put, he pointed out accurately. The Padres are, are still four games up on the Braves who have the final wild card spot, but that's not really the, that's not really the number you want to pay attention to. The number you pay attention to is how far up are you on the first team out of a playoff because if the Braves passed you, you're still in the playoffs. Yeah. Because they're not, they're a playoff team. So you're one of the, you're only really are worried about the team that's out of the playoffs passing you. And they're now six games ahead of the New York Mets who are the first team out to you. They're two games behind the Braves. Six game cushion with 41 to play is a significant margin now, not, not insurmountable. Nope. Nope. Nothing's guaranteed, but the Padres have put themselves in a position that they simply have to play moderately decent baseball the rest of the way and they should be comfortably into the postseason. They don't have to go on any runs, no winning streaks necessary. In fact, 500 ball probably gets it done fairly comfortably at this point. Yeah. Definitely not what they're shooting for at all, but again, it is nice. This is, you built yourself up a little bit of a cushion, but you don't see them taking it easy. You know, you really don't. You don't see them being comfortable at all right now. In fact, I feel like the guys are still really intense and playing really, really hard. And that's all you can ask for from your baseball team. And then on the top end, while the Dodgers are winning, the Brewers are losing and the Padres yesterday caught the Brewers. They're now tied virtually tied with overall national league standings, which doesn't matter unless you catch the Dodgers and win the division, but it could. It could factor into a first round buy in the playoffs that the Padres do get there. And how about this? Oh, about two months ago, when the Phillies were clearly the class of baseball and we're running away with the national league, Padres are now just two games behind the Philadelphia Phillies. That team that was probably, I don't know, 13, 14 games clear. The Padres at one point, they're now 69 and 50. The Padres are 68 and 53. This is wide open right now. Absolutely wide open Dodgers, Phillies, Brewers, Diamondbacks. Padres. It's wild. How things have changed from, hey man, just hang around, you know, they couldn't get above 500. It was hang around and just get into the dance. They literally took that a couple of weeks ago is, you know, the vision's like a possibility. And now it's like you could finish the best record in the national league. The tractor beam that was pulling them back to 500 smashed. They smashed it. They took it in the backyard, took a hammer to it. It's gone. I mean, and that's, that's been really cool. And just kind of, I don't want to say sneakily, obviously, because we cover them every single day. But you just, you look up and go, these SOBs just went 18 out of 21. Is that right? 14, 15 games about 500, it's just bananas. It's bananas. What they've been able to do. All credit goes to those guys, man, very, very cool. But there's a, there's no dominant team anymore. Even in the American league, the Yankees, and the Guardians, and the Orioles, they're all at 70, 71 wins. So the Dodgers, 71, 49, Guardians, 71, and 49, those are the best records in baseball. That's three and a half games where the Padres are right now. And early in the season, I think I, I read there were three or four teams that were on pace to win over a hundred games. No one's on pace to win even a hundred games now at this point, which hasn't happened in baseball very rarely in, you know, in the, in the recent versions of Major League Baseball where you've got some of the haves and have-nots, we've seen a lot of hundred plus win seasons. We may not get a single one hundred win season, in fact, we're probably not going to get one this year. Wow. Fan graphs for whatever weight you give them and their approach to the mathematical side of things. They've got projected wins. The Yankees and the Dodgers at about 95 wins. That's the most in baseball. That is the most. So it's, and that's within, by the way, that is within striking distance for the Padres if they finish the season strongly. They've got the Padres. 90 and 72. Yeah. And that's, that's projected. That's like you're not going to be as hot as you are right now, but you still, you just play a, a two games over 500, I think the rest of the way gets you to 90 at this point if you're the Padres. You barely have to beat 500 to get to 90 wins now. If you keep playing close to what you're playing right now, you keep winning series, 91, 92, 93, even 95 is within reach for the San Diego Padres. So sky's the limit right now. And the World Series race, I think is as wide open as it has been in baseball in several years. Very awesome. I mean, there are, I want to say eight or nine teams and I don't even know which one. So we'll, we'll talk about that coming up. We'll get to our Padres wrap up, get you Jesse's calls of yesterday's three, nothing win over the Pittsburgh pirates, another dominant outing from Michael King was outstanding. We'll talk about all of it coming up next on San Diego's number one sports station, 97 three, the fan. It's our 97 tennis brought to you by Express Employment Professionals. If your supply chain demands a flexible workforce higher with Express Employment Professionals with contract and full time workers from Express Employment, you get the staff you need and manage contingent labor costs. Learn more at express prose.com that's express prose.com. All right, it was a great, another low scoring game. The offense is not quite as on fire as it was last week, but the pitching has picked up the slack. My God, we will, we will go through the highlights of yesterday's three, nothing win over the Pittsburgh Pirates right after this check of traffic got 97 three, the fan. It's the Padres wrap up presented by Hamul Casino with thrilling slots and tables in all of the best rewards. Hamul Casino has all the fun you're looking for, Hamul Casino, fun above all else. Give me a due damage. Hamicato hits it in the air to center field, bait charging in, dives forward, did he make the catch? It appears that he did, the throw will go in his second, throw far back safely, a rise will tag and score, a sacrifice fly from the chateau, and a 1-0 Padres lead. 3-1 hit hard in the air to dig right center field, they lock through his long run looking up, good to go, David Peralta is fifth of the year and the freight train on the tracks here at Petco Park gets 2-0 3-2 again to Les Swings and misses Scrantory and on pitch 10, game got him to go fishing, that is strikeout 10, 6, shutout innings for Michael King and after 5-1/2, Padres lead the Pirates 2-0, Scott ready, here's the pitch, Bart Swings and misses Scrantory, came back with a fastball, that'll do, a couple of K's and a scoreless eight inning for Tanner Scott, after 7-1/2, still the Padres 2 and the Pirates nothing, a 1-0 hit on the ground up the middle, Cruz to his left can't make the play, ricocheted off his flop goes to the center, a rise scores and the Padres lead is 3-0. Hayes will take second base, the pitch swung on, grounded up the middle, long way to go Bogart on the left side of the infield has it, off balance through to first, he's in time and the ball game is over, for the second consecutive night a stellar defensive play to end it, the Pirates are shutout 3-0 by King, Adam, Scott and Suarez as the Padres have won an eighth straight series, for this time they have done that since 2007 and here tomorrow afternoon they will go for the sweep. You know Ruben showed him to me right after the, his outing, 83 pitch, 83% first pitch strikes and 100% 1-1 counts strikes, that's controlling counts and that's what allows you to throw up zeros and you know he did have some light traffic you know and the fair main innings and just made a lot of quality pitches to double play ball traps a huge. Michael King is a delight to watch pitch that's what I kept thinking last night he is a delight to watch pitch when he is on and he has been really really on as of late then he, he may be my favorite pitcher in the rotation to watch, Matty Waldron throwing those knuckle balls up there, yeah it's pretty cool and you see him and they're always on pitching ninja but Michael King's 2-seamer that starts at a left hander's hip and ends up down the middle or on the inside corner may be my favorite pitch in baseball. He is, his change up was filthy and again he's getting those guys, he's, they're behind everyone goes up there, there are 0-2-1-2 and he's just pounding the zone. Now he's so good though and effective that, that he's not giving up much hard contact at all either it's a, it's the total package right now with Michael King, what a delight he is. Yeah some pretty amazing stats if you're watching the broadcast and I was actually listening a lot to Jesse last night and oh by the way I did hear him incorporate his song lyrics and I will get to that at some point he nailed it last night so looking forward to that but they had the graphic up with Michael King and he is among the league leaders with like Chris Sale, least hard contact allowed this season and that's really been the turnaround for Michael King. His first, what month and a half or so, home run dispenser, yeah he gave up like 10 of them in his first. 10 or 13 of something. Yeah a bunch in his first handful of starts since then I think he's only given up two and really the hard hit rate is extremely low even yesterday the pirates were getting a bunch of blue bleeder type hits in fact it created the weird situation of looking up at the line score after like the third inning and the pirates were like no runs five hits two errors the pirates were one run no hits no errors because of the way that first inning played out with Perez walking and then hitting pro far and then getting the error and then the sacrifice fly to score without a hit. Pottery's offense really wasn't doing much but they got gifted a run and Michael King protected it by not giving up hard contact getting out of the jams with strikeouts once those guys were on on the bleaters ended up as you heard striking out 10 but how about that stat that Mike Schilt pointed out after the game. I knew from Jesse they were talking about how consistently Michael King was getting the first pitch over but that one one stat blew my mind. So Ruben showed him to me right after the his outing 83 pitch I do 3% first pitch strikes and 100% 1-1 count strikes 83% of the time he got ahead 0-1 but then when he was 1-1 100% of the time that pitch was a strike he never fell behind 2-1 to that a single batter that was 1-1 so I think there was a couple 2-0s but the 1-1 pitch was in there every time that is such a it's such a pivotal pitch in and at batwoods you know this the difference between 2-1 for a batter who can then go up and really like be aggressive and hunt versus 1-2 right now you're just trying to protect and trying to make some contact and you're probably going to strike out honestly against Michael King such a huge difference and to go 100% on the 1-1s to go to 1-2 you just don't have a lot of hope against Michael King and that's how it played out with the pirates unable to score again against guys but I mean fantastic he'll be back next season you know knock on wood with Dylan Cease really the the nucleus already have a great rotation and then hopefully you finally add you know Joe Musgrove's back and you Darvis at some point you know really does seem like it could be a great rotation with guys next year as well but of course we're still on this year and I've got a lot of a lot of baseball left to play here so I mean outstanding pitching again the the offense yeah it took I mean never really totally got going but it I was so bummed in the first inning you know I mean you're probably thinking oh four or five runs a year ago this is now this is the blowout squad that we needed tonight and and you know would crony hit that ball of the middle and oh no and as soon as it ticked off his glove I said all right floodgates are about to open and they didn't open many had I mean again there's a lot of hat tipping going on but you got to tip your hat to be a phenomenal catch in center field that that probably scores a couple of drops yeah man they they ended up with just one there and you know though I didn't feel as deflated as I thought I would after having bases loaded nobody out only coming away with one again there is a confidence that that's built in me as a fan because of how hard those guys play and how badly they want to win so I wasn't super bummed I was not mad I'd also just watched Michael King dominate you know like I know he had a couple of leaders there but you saw the movement you saw how it was coming out of his hand you saw how nasty he had the potential to be last night I also know we have a back end of the bullpen that is currently disgusting you know what they call it you heard this ass article sound system article sound system is the name of the back end of the Padres it's Adam and then it is Scott and then it is Suarez a s s now you now you what do you say what is that called a s s s s yes that's our back of our in some people say man our bullpen is ass our bullpen is literally ass and they're amazing it's what you want that's what you want yes exactly right so I mean David Peralta incredible I mean just incredible just just absolutely yanks one out you know and then you get the insurance run late through many a man he gets a knock after hustle played by Luis Arise this is there they're scratching their clawing they're fighting they're dying to win baseball games it is so fun to watch you can add more a home in a strata in there would be like me ass me ass is not a real world I don't know I'm just trying to just add everyone I want I want to feel I want everyone to feel included okay we'll work on that oh yeah we can work on that yeah um me me ass me ass yes I don't get it um should we just you know listen we're talking about talking about usage yeah okay and the first question of the press conference last night was about Michael King from Bob Scanlan and again if you watch Michael King throw last night does he look tired does he look worn down no he's seemingly getting stronger and that's what that's what Bob Scanlan wanted to talk about and you know I know there's a lot of communication between Mike Shilton as players so I'm about to wrap it up about to hit the sack and I just like oh I'll watch the presser well I watch the presser I went holy smokes what just what just happened we just what what's going on why why is everyone mad you have the the audio I sure do this is unbelievable I mean clearly you're using them because you feel come you know they're pregame whatever the can you take us through kind of like because it is a lot of work especially for Suarez and and Tanner why you're comfortable with is you're talking to them they've done this before why you're comfortable with these guys having gone as much as they have in the past week well they've not gone three in a row they've had days away Scott's been the guy that's been more of the day off pitch you know he's going four out of five again efficient you know Robert's had a couple of days before that it's really no different than we've done with anybody all year so I don't you know we've had more it's run together more so it's more obvious to people but it's not like it hasn't been done that that helps answer your question but to further explain your question I think is yeah it's constant communication how do you feel you need a day you need a day we see you how it's coming out again these guys take care of himself or explain a little bit about the efficiency but we've got a chance to win ball games we got guys in there capable and and able to pitch they pitch how much would it help to have a five run lead of course he would help me I don't know what you want me to say to that of course it would help Mike this is a lot like it's a lot these high leverage guys having to go night and night out and you're kind of like saying that it's not I've didn't say it or ace you're putting words in my mouth okay I am pitching them accordingly to my experience in a communication with them if you have exception with that then the course if it's if I don't come here to argue with you I've already answered it very clearly for a minute I don't know what more you want me to tell you that you're not hearing from me I really don't I've realized they've pitched a lot I've recognized it I've I've given you the usage obviously if it was five to nothing that would be better it wasn't we're winning games I don't know what I don't I really have no idea what how to answer a question any any better clear I was I couldn't I was physically I was physically uncomfortable listening to that lesson I think I know obviously I think I know what Kevin was trying to say and sometimes we in the media don't articulate it as good as we can I think you know I was looking at the usage to nothing nothing screams at me like these guys are gonna be hanging I think about all the data that we have the the comments from Tanner Scott's former manager that said to give him the ball he wants a ball he's not he's not he's there are certain guys they're like I'll take it I'll take it and then there's certain guys are like I need a day and I what I don't think is happening up there is Mike Schilt is calling down to the bullpen and guys going me dude I told him I needed I don't think that's happening at all and so but I understand I understand in this modern baseball you're so careful you have to be so careful because there is a huge stretch of games coming up and you can I don't know much but I do know this if Mike Schilt had a five nothing five run lead in the ninth inning he's elated when's the last time that's happened it's been a while and he had you know he had used Suarez I feel like there I actually feel like they're managing the arms pretty well right now I was looking at some usage last three three days Tanner Scott's thrown 29 pitches Jason Adams thrown 28 Suarez is thrown 28 Yuki's thrown 25 Brian homies from 24 a strata's thrown 20 Sean Reynolds it's thrown 16 again this is the last three three days and Adrian Moore home is down with the flu he's thrown none I am yeah I'm not going to put any words in Mike Schilt's mouth because he doesn't like that but I think clearly he knows that all right I'm I'm gonna probably use those three guys either last night or today yeah one of the two not both and I've got them available so you know what this is a good situation I'm gonna use them tonight yeah I would be surprised if we saw any of them today that's what I tomorrow's an off day correct so he knows they're getting at least two who knows maybe Friday they don't need them they're getting some time off coming up here you weren't gonna not use them both of those days so you got Yuki you got yeah a strata you got Sean Reynolds and hopefully more home back you should be we'll continue this with mike shilt talking about bullpen usage and Kevin a c in his newsletter acknowledged this morning that he asked a poorly worded question after last night's game regarding how it would be good to have a five run lead instead of playing all these close games i i can't even imagine what that's like what's the answer that is really worded question did it is harder than you think the answer to that is duh yeah duh you always want a bigger lead i think sometimes and this isn't on kevin this is on all of us here in san diego we are uh... were polite or than maybe like the new york media which probably would ask the question hey why you open you over using your bullpen skip what's going on you know they just be a little more ruthless and do you think your bullpen's overtaxed right now something like that and uh... and i just didn't understand why she'll like he got very defensive it didn't say well it's after a win you know you won the game you're on a massive hot streak but there's just look it's you know i don't have everybody's personalities different it's like hey dummy why are you overusing your guy you can you can catch me on the wrong day you know normally i think i and i always i always try to put myself in that situation of like what how would i answer and i think you know look there's a there's a way to be confrontational there's a way not to be either chance yesterday uh... to be confrontational i chose not to but i often make the other the other choices well and i just said right whatever you want to do it's up to you we're happy to help that that was my instead of you know really diving in and digging in i just said if you need help let me know and uh... and it kind of stop there so i just again you know i i don't know that doing a uh... uh... a post-game with a manager is always is always uh... i think it's always necessary it's kind of the part of the gig but it it's it's not always uh... awe-inspiring you know you're not going to get any great great detail about about what happened or what should have happened sometimes they are unfortunately it's almost sometimes like a uh... like a courtroom where you've got the the witness on the stand and you've got a prosecutor asking questions and you know when mike chilts up there kevin a c sounds a little bit like he's the lawyer trying to build a case against the manager for bull pen malpractice like yeah yeah yeah starting to uh... all right we see some evidence here that maybe you're over using your high leverage arms and i want the jury out there who are pot raise fans making their decision just aware of some of the evidence has it come back to bite you up course not working yet working beautifully guys are coming through every time you ask them to go out there so far all the evidence is in on mike chilts side but i can see if i might show them up there on the stand you know i'm facing these questions like what are you trying to say here that i'm not doing my job right that i'm over using these guys here you know the consequences are going to be disastrous later i and and he made the very fair point that you know i'd look at the usage very closely it's not as though i have uh... i just like a does anyone have any idea how many times or is this pitch in the last three days uh... now i mean look he's out there when we just bring him in they consider that obviously to a great degree kevin knows that everyone knows that they're thinking about that and now you gotta make a decision is it do we feel like it's worth it to bring those guys in in this game and ultimately the answer last night was yes mike chilts not going to tell you all three of those guys are down today right i might guess would be there almost certainly all going to take today off and they get tomorrow off for the off day and then they'll kind of be reset and and you can start working again from scratch on friday now that's that's strategic information that he doesn't want to concede in a press conference setting so i get that as well so instead he just kind of pushes back you know really makes sense when you when you put it all together it just ends up being an awkward difficult confrontation and and again a c admitted that wasn't the best way to phrase the question of what i was trying to get at which happens which absolutely happens that a lot of people misspeak it's not listen this is not watergate this is not the end of the world sand eagle potteries are are playing really good baseball and uh... you know by all accounts everybody's doing their job exactly the way that they need to do it and i have no problem with that i haven't really at all this year uh... we've seen that we've seen instances earlier in the year benny when robert or is would come in a non-safe situation but you have a chance to win the series and you're like okay it's a four run lead he's not going to get the save let's go to him anyway why cuz i want this having series i want to win this series i don't blame him at all idea in the chances of today's post-game any chill to come to the press room dressed as colonel jessus did you order about stories into the game that would actually be a real that being the way to diffuse it uh... a little bit but yeah man listen it's baseball tensions run high team-flaying great that's really the story did you want her to come back you don't have to answer that question i'll answer that question you want answers i think i'm entitled you want the truth you can't handle the truth son we live in a world where bull pen usage is a hot topic now okay suggests jessup in this shilty chilty's jessus yeah absolutely let's see that but again uh... in that in that case colonel jessus clearly was doing something inappropriate correct i don't know that my chilter's doing anything wrong with how he's managed to use bull pen because again they're pitching great they are they're doing fantastic we don't know i mean you know these guys might do better scott tells us he i want to be out there as much as possible i've i've pitched better when you use when you use me more often so okay i mean you're listening to your guys is my chilter said he's listening to his guys he's gonna he's gonna keep in mind how often they've pitched and he's gonna make those decisions and he's doing a great job of it right now when it comes to the bull pen usage could there come come a point where maybe today you know he's in a spot because he's used his guys a lot now he doesn't have some of his arms yeah i'm worried about today's game well it's how you know you can't worry about today's game last night you know when last night's game i'll tell you the the we never really know the full story but like if tanner scott told mike schilt before the game last night bro and if you need me i'm ready and it's a three-run lead and mike schilt doesn't go to him because he goes uh... and he puts in a lower leverage guy and he gives it up guess who's on shilt as today we are everybody is so you use your guys i understand it menu it's that's why this hundred sixty two game season it's just a it's a war of attrition who can manage their bullpen the best who can have the most effective efficiency is key efficiency really was the main word there tanner scott goes out and throws thirty pitches two days ago he's not in their last night but he threw eleven happen in the he threw eleven and then eighteen or something so they've been fairly efficient so that gives them the opportunity you also could have asked michael king for another better but you're you're being careful with his usage is well and it is in his innings so it is all connected he was great but you want to be wanted to be available for the post-season i mean you don't you'll get talked over and go on what kind of done with michael king oh well yes well i think so you're you're got all of those decisions and uh... i will say confidently that mike schilt in room in the abler and the pot raise front office are very aware of everything that's going on around their pitching staff for every year very aware you may agree with some of their decisions you may disagree with some of them because there's some gray area a lot of those decisions but they are quite quite on top of what's going on all around all i know is it's another win for the san diego pot raise over the pittsburgh pirates uh... we did see jerks in pro far that he's been hit in every game he's played against the pirates this year is that right i believe that's true i get it slider no intent but it's it it's got to uh... it's got to stop we've got one of those uh... no intent hit my pitches coming up and don't do this in a few minutes as well we do uh... which is interesting audio uh... but we'll we'll hold on for that we need a contestant for taking on what's right now give us a call a three three two eight eight zero ninety seven three get our musical trivia challenge coming up chance to qualify for the trip to los vegas the carry-underwood tickets coming up in just a moment again it's big league wednesday uh... adam jones traveling but we will have brett boone in uh... at eight thirty five to join us to talk about the major league baseball uh... playoff races and everything is going on right now in baseball uh... pot raise going for the sweep today what was the status as of the uh... they have never swept season series from two different teams of six games or more that's right no pot raise team is ever swept two season series of at least six games so if you you win today uh... you get a chance to do that to the nationals and the pirates and uh... i would like to add much so they do that that's twelve games above five hundred against those two teams which is what have we been hammering all the games above five hundred right now would be sixteen if they won today so that's that it would be two thirds of their their games above five hundred just against those two teams right now that's we've been saying that all year you've got to make some hay and some against against these teams and they finally are now and again i i i they're not blowing these bad teams out but it doesn't matter they all count is one win at the end of the day no matter how many rote it makes me so happy that they are doing what they need to do that taking care of business of everyone's talking about how hot the diamond banks are they're not blowing everybody out they they had to pull another one out of the fire against the rock is the Rockies last night on a walk off they did but they were down to their last strike and about to lose that game they did pull it out but uh... you know wins a win i'm sure they're not giving it back pot raise are given it back alright see two second song title got the band it is run around which nineteen seventy seven steely dan hit features the sportcy line we ran out of time we did get three not bad run around by blues traveler the moody blues and i guess that's why they call it the blues deacon blues is steely dan and the fulsome prison blues i don't know if it's going to be enough though we'll see hang on the line brian brian the clock what's your time begins when paul plays the music good luck let's take on brian run around blue ok correct which nineteen seventy seven steely dan hit features the sporty line they call alabama the krimson time which nineteen fifty five song to johnny cash famously perform in a live show to northern california penitentiary in nineteen sixty eight like the category could help uh... fulsome prison blue correct which nineteen sixty's english rock band was known for songs including nights in white satin or moody blues correct which nineteen eighty three singles the first release by elton john and eight years and became one of his biggest that's why they call the correct which nineteen seventy seven steely dan hit features the sporty line they call alabama the krimson tie deacon's blues no deacon blues yeah either way uh... four to three or five to three if i give you the cat deacon blues on that one good plan brian but not quite enough to take down what's today and singing the blues our category yeah i i i think deacon's blues would have gotten past the the judge of the judge is deacon blue deacon the call alabama the krimson tied call me deacon always out the stuvius what is that about stuvius well i don't work that's fine i don't know that's on well played terrible so i would never listen to that so well played that's a good song to loxy moron and false it what is all that's false that's false in prison blues yeah any time play if you don't know musical trivia we've got real or fake for you tomorrow that's chance to qualify for las vegas without having to take on what's actually we do that each week on our throwback thursday that's tomorrow though i don't do this is coming up next as we said we have one of those uh... hit by pitch situations yesterday not with the jerks and who by the way poli said there is one game that they did monday was not they did not hit him was nice all three pithford and then last night and he was hit twice against marlin's on a saturday so but it comes into play in our don't do this segment which had uh... they had an announcer slip up last night i think we've all been guilty of this one all right that's coming up next after a check of traffic here on ninety seven three the fam come to this it's time for don't do this what were you thinking three stories from the world of sports that make us all shake our heads how many times do i have to tell you oh i'm sorry i fudged up guys you idiot you moron the apple sometimes does far fall from the tree don't do this do not tweet that with ben and woods i like a nickelback song or two on ninety seven three the fam all right don't do this uh... two stories that make you shake your head something a little more positive at the end and i was thinking last night we've seen all these times jerks and profar has been hit down on the leg and by the shoe tops and there was an incident in baseball last night involving george springer we'll get to the audio in just a second but remember the old days when umpires would check for shoe polish to see if yeah you actually got hit by a pitch they don't do that anymore do that i don't know that many guys polish their shoes anymore which is it's a good idea but i mean a lot of them are wearing you know like white colored shoes and they're more like tennis shoes with spikes as opposed to the old days when they like black you know they have the black and the shoe polish shoes and if you got if the ball was in the dirt near your feet the umpire would then go check the ball if there was shoe polish on it it's good that oh it hits you and they give them first base it's uh it's like harkening back to a previous era now i had had george springer shined his shoes last night he's in great shape probably in good shape great if you ever ever get your shoe shined oh i'd love to get used to be all like an airport you know they have a shoe shine station it's one of them or like a casino they'd have shoe shine station it's literally it's one of life's pleasures for me it was and i don't dress up much anymore but when i did and i would have a layover and because i traveled a ton and i'd travel in a suit and tie and i would get to the airport in early so i could get my shoe shine for my big business trip and i just i love it i'll drop my shoes off if they get a little scuffy and you know take them to a place and they shine them up for me i do love a good it's nice shined shoe why don't you go home and get your shine box then okay that's the stuff that you keep your equipment in that's right to shine the shoes there the little brush even around i don't shine shoes and everything yeah i just don't see that as much anymore but then again the shoes that we wear nowadays are not really polish friend correct for the most part anyway for you it's hard to polish flip flops neither here nor there uh this was uh last night george springer uh in the game it was the toronto blue jays against the los angeles angels uh a springer of the blue jays at the plate gets where do we pick up the audio because there's a ball in the dirt it's not rule to hit by pitch he says i was hitting the foot so they go it's like they go for the they go for the replay and then you see the replay on television and the ball clearly changes directions i mean this audio starts with uh the ruling okay so yeah so it's so it it it clearly changes direction so let's physics his his foot moves because somehow you can hear it in a thud it it looked pretty clear like okay he's ready for the call to be overturned and take his base what are we doing here and then it doesn't happen and he loses his mind clearer microfoam the time toronto's challenging the call of no hit by pitch the call in the field states no hit by pitch see wow toronto loses the challenge yeah i the reason is he yeah he's not real happy about his fingers upset and now john snider's gonna have to calm him down so he doesn't get thrown out of this game and now he has been thrown out and now stonners about to get thrown out well it's getting hot here now and george springer the face of the hope they don't buy a magnetic exhaust and he has to be restrained by his manager john snider here he walks out of me with mario comes over as well this is like george bress springer is still trying to get out the whole play it out by it i've never seen george springer this animated before well and this is the problem with replay and major league baseball's replay reviews because it has to be extremely obvious it was not extremely obvious they don't overturn them we've seen it so many times and now here's a player george springer i rate but he was clearly hitting the foot i mean everyone acknowledged he was clear i don't know what i don't know how if that's not now could you actually see like the foot crumple in no i mean it just changed directions he pulled his foot back to me let's replay four if we're not going to get it you know it's it's basically in accord a law i think that would held up that it is foot yeah do you have to assume a little bit that when the ball changes direction that what it hit was his foot because those balls are going so fast even on replay it's hard to necessarily exactly see what it hits but we know it hit his foot why didn't you overturn that one well i mean dude think about last night how about i say a kind of falefa why don't they call that rule anymore when you just lean your elbow in and get hit they used to sometimes would be like no you leaned into that pitch it was clear as day that kind of falefa leans into that pitch and takes his base um now you have Bryce johnson throwing out a second and and that was replay the potter's lost that one and it just it's good yeah which i don't agree with that might have been that might not have been over like clear that he was safe i thought he was safe but i wasn't a hundred percent sure so they didn't they didn't overturn it my conspiracy theory is they'd already overturned one for the pot raise earlier in the game a very clear play at first base they overturned that and they're like we're not going to be wrong twice and so we're going to say there's not enough evidence i thought he was safe his day but he was called out on the field yeah and they just didn't feel like they had enough to they did they call him safe the second time around so that's your uh those are replay mishaps from last night well here's an announcer's mishap last night and uh so it's the guardians and the cubs and they're playing and drew smiley is on the bump and uh let's see the gentleman calling the game or from guardians broadcasters matt underwood and rick manning and that was very very animated call but rick manning in particular had some an interesting way to put it my goodness uh smiley and he wants to kill himself you know breaking ball and boy the well-took advantage of it that's what he's capable of doing you they had a little little superfluous hot mic in the background i think we had an f-y on there might have picked it up on the stream but yeah he said uh he'd oh boy smiley the right the right thing to say now he wants to die of embarrassment that's that's that's okay but obviously you don't want to be flippant with the suicide suicide you know i'm living we're trying to be better about such things did did it happen all the time when we were growing up yeah i i still say it yeah i don't mean to say it but yeah the what you're really saying is oh he could die of embarrassment right now correct yeah just one of those that's a better way to handle it i honestly if i'm thinking about it clearly right now i don't know anyone in my life that hasn't said it you know what i mean it's just one of those that it's like it's kind of ingrained in us doesn't make it right but definitely you could see it slipping out on the air he didn't he wasn't being literal finally a little do-do this here on a Wednesday dd mega do-do love to see when you said what good question here Dominic his suicide squeeze out not okay it is they still say it all the time huh suicide squad is a movie i don't know if the word is taboo it's just how you use it how you use it he didn't say he wants to commit suicide he said well he wants to kill himself for that pitch flippant but yeah definitely definitely doable interesting love to see when uh colleagues support their co-workers in quiet ways and uh our colleague any hilbrun had this story and it was mentioned again to you are you patting yourself on the back for supporting your colleague in a quiet way right now no no i'm just i don't know actually it's it's zander boghards who's supporting his colleague oh i thought you were saying i'm so great for supporting any hilbrun here it is and that i was like let's don't do this for you you throw that in as well if you want it but um people have noticed recently uh that zander's wearing uh these uh necklaces they uh i don't know they kind of like the bead bead necklaces and no one really knew the story but any uh enterprising any got to the bottom of it tweeted the necklace and her boghards has been wearing was made by padre's trainer ricky where does daughter juliana who's 13 and trying to raise money for eighth grade trip to new york he bought two necklaces offer to match his shoes one orange and one blue and he's been wearing them oftentimes during games which is really really cool nice thing to do so interestingly enough i mean and zander's comments he goes look at this thing it looks like it's worth 20 grand he loved it like and uh so i i know ricky we he's our fantasy camp guy ricky's we've no ricky for years he's he's like one of the best human beings you'll ever meet and so i texted him i go i'm gonna need two of those one for each and he wrote back lol he's like what colors you want to go yellow and brown he goes done so i'm picking them up today for the kids and uh but they're very excited because they want to wear what zander boghards love ricky ricky's fantastic he's the best um by the way any very enterprising because zander uh jackson was wearing kind of similar looking ones so those aren't those aren't the uh ricky who are to daughter necklaces that yeah they're don't know the story behind those but but zander for sure and that is don't and do do this for a wednesday that was don't do this with bennon woods on 97-3 the fact that i know what some of you are thinking out there and you're going i mean zander is making so much money why just pay for the trip to new york and not by a necklace it's not about that it's about earning your earning your way to new york and doing something and raising money it's part of the lesson of going there and he's doing a good job supporting ricky and his daughter and down the right thing here's why it didn't ask i didn't ask him what's they call what if i get down there he's like all right five grand i'm like all right guys enjoy your zander didn't have a problem with that zander said they look like they're worth twenty grand what if i get that at twenty five hundred each i'm like still get that that's ten that's ten percent of what they're worth so you're getting a great deal no what they look like they're worth it's what they look like they're worth i have no idea how much these necklaces cost and i didn't ask great all right uh we like to go through what else is happening now that we're doing some scoreboard watching in the playoff races gets caught up on what you missed last night free delivery on your first three orders offer valid for a limited time minimum ten dollars per order excludes restaurants additional terms and fees apply one of those is a couple of uh more nuggets from the pod raise game that we didn't really get to uh last hour uh from yesterday but how about uh luisa rise had a a solid night two for three and a walk scored two of the three runs and we talked about the yesterday on the show that we need you know luisa rise setting the table is really big no we talked we talked about that in the golf color we talked about in the golf course well but turned out to be true i said to you i said you know what i could use tonight is a real luisa rise night you know a good solid four for four three for four couple runs scored we need a good solid luisa rise night and then goes yep that's exactly he goes and think about it you know if he does that and Manny knocks in two and crony knocks in two we win that ball game and in fact there was a stat that came out in a c's new newsletter this morning uh it says that when Manny Machado drives in two runs the potteries are like 19 to no so setting the table for Manny if he can get the job done potteries win a lot of ball games uh luisa rise even though he's been playing with a torn thumb ligament raises his average to 306 which leads the national league by five points over Marcello zuna second at three oh one and they're the only two guys who are even hitting over three hundred in the national league after that it's a kitel marte two ninety eight show hey oh tani two ninety seven jerks and pro far two ninety five and in tenth place right now two eighty six is jackson meryl who i don't even know if you want to point it out didn't do anything incredible or spectacular last night and it actually is almost newsworthy but he just had a i mean he had a home run robbed he thought i thought that was about it he had one that looked like it was gone and it got it got right i don't know if it would have gotten over or high off the wall or bounced off the wall and then off the glove and then went over the wall for a ground rule double uh but it was close certainly and he looked like he thought he got it i thought he got it didn't quite get it but um and they were able to win without jackson meryl doing something insane yeah in the game last night absolutely piped it and and yeah don't change the thing man i mean that's just one of those like uh hang with him that's what my always says it's a big league hang with him you hit the ball hard and do your job and uh sometimes it doesn't go out but i think he thought he got it i'd certainly thought he got it had that sound uh but he got maybe pet coat a little bit last night pretty crazy i'm looking at these stats with the leaders of the batting average in the national league and even with it i mean the the war stat does not ever reflect well for the waste around his war this year is zero point one this is the d's it's not well yeah i mean he's not a great defensive writer but that doesn't you know it's also only three home runs not so yeah i'm saying his lack of of anything defensively right hurts but also lack of power lack of speed there's only stolen five bases did have one last night but there's only stolen five bases lack of on base percentage because it doesn't walk a lot it's it's a very polarizing player there are people not for me he's not i don't think so i feel like i'm i love watching him i love how he fits on this team i don't i don't wait into the online arguments about luisa rise i don't i wait into them with some other players but i don't think you're going to convince new school baseball fans that luisa rises a valuable member of your team i think if you're an old school baseball fan you absolutely understand but i i find myself somewhere in the middle most times but when the truth is probably somewhere in the middle the truth the truth probably is somewhere in the middle but it's hard to argue because with a zero point one war you're essentially saying that you could replace luisa rise with joseph mo right and you will get just as much production and and you know i can't believe i do not believe that that is true you absolutely know that to be false you know that to be false that is not an accurate measurement of luisa rise it's just not he does the hardest thing in the sport and he does it well very well and does he always come through no he doesn't but who do i want up there when i need a runner moved over when i need a knock he's the one i feel most comfortable also the things that drive you know i don't know too many these days i don't know too many like when when advanced metrics really started to be talked talked about i was finding people in camps where i said you don't you clearly don't watch you're just looking at these numbers you don't need to watch the games you can look at the numbers and say the results or what the expected result should be when you watch luisa rise every night you do realize man he brings a lot more to the table um he the energy when this when he got here this team changed he was a big big part of changing the energy of this team uh the work ethic that he has you can't quantify that Ben you can't measure that in a number and his ability to put bat on ball in this day and age is exceptional it's exceptional and if you've played baseball and you played with a guy that's a really good hitter and you look at them in awe and you go how how do they do it poly and i play with a bunch we play with a few where i'm like how do these guys continue to barrel the baseball almost every time they're up poly and i beg it for one barrel a week these guys are getting four and it's like god dang if you see it you know it and so i don't know Ben that i'm going to pay the guy 20 million dollars a year i don't know i'm going to pay him that much you probably that would be a mistake correct but i i look at him and i go you're so immensely valuable to this team could you have a lineup full of luisa rises if you had luisa rise one through nine and an average pitching staff war would tell you that would be one of the worst debates correct be like a 60 win team if you did that i saw me it just be you station to station base it base it base it base it stringing them together but eventually you make the three outs you'd never get the big three run homer or anything like that you would have a poor defensive team out there i see what the point is of the war i just think that he is a great addition to this team in particular at this moment in time and he will always have a valuable place on on a team somewhere and it'll never look good in war he'll never he'll never be among the leaders in war and i i think you know honestly that's his game and i just i i'm so in awe of watching him hit sometimes i'm in awe of watching him spoil pitches um it's just the hardest thing to do to get that that barrel on the ball and i know he doesn't hit it particularly hard either but back control is really now if we get to the playoffs you know i i think that's when you look at luisa rise because doesn't matter who's pitching it's it's the lowest level guy the top level guy when you get to the playoffs you face the cream of the crop no matter who it is i feel like luisa rise can hit him you know every single time i maybe child is my favorite player i don't always feel that way about mandy right like like yeah if you hang on he's gonna make you pay but if you're locating your slider and your heater up and in i'm i'm feeling pretty good about your chances against mandy but with luisa rise he's gonna get you he's gonna drive you crazy so i love him i hope you see her for a long time i i'm i'm i don't think you can pay him some exorbitant amount of money and that's weird to say right you're the best at the hardest thing there is to do in your sport but you don't deserve a lot of money it doesn't make any sense but that's the way that the game is now and you'd agree that uh this is the best pardry's club house we've seen since we've been together since we've been a show together and you've been covering the team a lot longer than me he's part of it david peralta i think he's a big part of it the guy that everyone likes and respects and he's producing and another home run yesterday obviously is second off will be sorties uh... in in both of these series i think down on salon was a big part of it i mean aj preller is really hit on on these pieces that he's added uh to the pod raise here for this season in particular and put together his best group overall roster construction by far i think aj's best job i i don't think it's so far any question all right um baseball coverage of ninety seven three the fan is presented by t mobile switch to t mobile you can get tons of benefits and still save on every plan versus at and t and verizon use their savings calculator to find out how a t mobile dot com slash switch i'll go through the rest of the action in major league baseball which you missed right after a check traffic here on ninety seven three the fan katie points out in the chat today is david peralta's birthday thirty seven years old today happy birthday david peralta nice addition one of the hottest hitters right now for your san diego pod raise and when they needed him when tatisse was gone and getting in there a lot against uh right-handed pictures and playing uh pretty decent right field i mean the covering more ground than most no but he's making the plays he needs to make and he's done a good job out there great job last night night for his last twenty two four oh nine average uh parahomer's eight eighteen slugging that's you'll take that from a thirty seven year old uh rest pot raise of course did not gain any ground on the l_a dodgers to uh got four home runs in mil walkie including shohio tani's thirty-seventh and a seven two win over the brewers so the pond raise remaining three and a half games behind the dodgers in the nl west race as do the arizona diamondbacks who once again were on the verge of a loss at home to the colorado rockies down uh three to one and then or four or three to nothing and it was three to two and then in ninth inning bases loaded two outs two strikes on jake macarthur down to the last strike last strike and he just chopped one the other way down the line and scored two uh for the walk-off win is as arizona remains as hot as the san diego pot raise i mean i guess the only you know if there's any bright side there's beaten up on the rockies and taxing the you know i mean we got the rockies next in colorado house of horse i'm trying to change my mindset about it because house of horrors horrors i said house of horrors do the sound differently just making sure a house of hope all fine horrors i do not like i do not like uh course field it is a house of horrors very good i'll say that like that forever now horror horror horrors it's a horror house so that's little horror house the best little the worst little horror house in colorado poly's eyes when i said he was was it hey hey can you not i just said i just said horror the uh the braves uh remain four games back of the pot raise and diamond backs but still holding that last wild card position in the nl as they want another ten inning game against the giants with a giants fans turning on bob melvin big time for his uh tenth inning decision so the braves scored on a travestar no single in the tenth they're up for three bob melvin then just tries to bump the tying run over from second to third with one of their hottest hitters uh fits jerel their new young shortstop and uh didn't work out for them he apparently now i i watched the play five times this morning so i wanted to to see what they saw and they called him for interference like he hit it and the ball came back and hit him but it never hit him the ball never hit fits jerel on the bun it should have been blocked the catcher for making the play he wanted and ran to first but darno comes out grabs the ball throws the guy out at third great great play they waved that one off send him back to second called the hitter out it actually worked out worse for the braves but again this is the you know this is the mentality now of when you're scratching and clawing and fighting you took one of your hottest hitters and you asked them to sacrifice so the braves could have had the lead runner out at third correct and instead he had to go back to second goes back to second scoring positions two outs now and then the next guy popped out i wonder like do we need to install like a uh accept or decline penalty like in football that would be a we will decline would you rather have upsides on the defense uh yeah if you're right apparently say no no that's fine we'll take the results and take the results of playing okay there are two outs runner on first or two outs runner on so he had that situation in the pod race game earlier this year when remembered mike shilt had the option of taking the results of the catcher's interference or the catcher's interference and he said i'll take i'll play for more runs the catcher's interference and play for more runs because he could have taken the out in the run scoring but declined uh you know accepted the penalty and went for more runs and worked out for him so we do have that already apparently in baseball uh the ace helped out you said net yesterday the ace were one of the hottest teams in the american league in second half yeah they did that they beat the new york Mets nine to four fourth straight loss for the Mets who all of a sudden if the wall in two games out of a playoff spot with the braves and six games behind the pod rays in the diamond banks and and that's the margin now clear of a postseason spot for the pond rays in diamond bank so that's big cardinals ran into hunter green who's uh making a sai young push for the Cincinnati Reds vomiting it again you did oh he threw up again vomiting played well i know he pitched well i didn't see the vomit what's going on he nerves nerves he he when he gets nervous he vomits into his into his glove did it in the glove and i think he had the ball in his in the web of his glove i don't not want to hit that one have you ever been so nervous you vomited i have i have i have i have uh anxiety what was it that made you so nervous well hold on to it for all right when we come back i'm curious i mean i felt like nauseous because i was nervous queasy i get the butterflies yeah but i've never actually thrown up because of nerves you did mmm uh marlins beat the fillies five nothing uh fillies have fallen back we talked about that earlier and uh once so do hit three home runs yankies beat the white socks four to one back in first place in the lee three solo shots yeah four one that's it all right we'll come back find out about woods is uh battle with the nerves next year i'm a fan temp check what kind of summer are we having this year a family road trip summer a beach bump summer or awake me when the sun set summer with thanks so much for being here talking pottery's baseball all morning and now we're talking about vomit because why not i'm with me as ball rindle he's the executive producer hello there Paulin good morning Benjamin Higgins your friendly neighborhood sports anchor joins us as well and uh i was texting with my wife there were it happened to me twice one of them i remember pretty vividly the other one i don't i can i can see it and i remember running to the bathroom to vomit but i don't remember what was the the cause of it but the first one came was walking up the ramp at moonlight beach and it was when i had very first gotten to town i was only in about a year and there had been a little bit of drama on the uh the show that i was on and uh i remember getting a phone call and it was kind of my first anxiety i didn't really have anxiety before and uh i was so overcome with anxiety and and emotion this is new yeah it was really fun it was not that fun feeling so i leaned over the rail and vomited so that was like your work caused you to do that yeah yeah for sure and uh did you think you were going to get fired or just i thought the show was coming to an end and eventually it did and that's i'd been here for a year so i had i had changed careers and moved and everything else and and settled in and uh when that came down i was and luckily they wanted me bad enough to stay and and and you know continue to work and wouldn't be here without that opportunity certainly so but that was not a fun feeling i i imagine adrenaline affects everyone differently uh hunter green yeah this is twice he's gone out on the mound and has been so amped up he just broke just right in his glove it's gnarly like i i hate that for him but i mean whatever he's doing is working because as you said he's he's in the hunt for a saw young right now and uh he was he was a very highly touted prospect that you know one of those guys oh he throws so hard he just can't locate well he's learned how to locate and he's doing well the hall skein's effect i'm not hearing as much about hunter green as i think we probably should because like you're right he had so much hype yeah coming into the draft they made me them a little bit a little bit a little bit he got hurt because it wasn't immediate like he didn't just make an immediate impact yeah he didn't start the all-star game six weeks later right but he's been so good but yeah it's um it's just one of those things man where it's like i you know i i wouldn't wish anxiety on anyone i mean anxiety is just the worst and you just it's hard to turn your brain off so um you know that's why i recommend better help now according to the internet nausea and vomiting very common for athletes especially those who participate in endurance sports pitching is in an endurance part of base i don't think it's exhaustion though that he's causing him to vomit no it's nerves it's adrenaline and then some athletes find the nerves make them nauseous nauseous other athletes who've talked about doing this before larry bird really little messy david beckham the nerves this vomit get it out and that's move on that's also those are three guys that have the weight of the world on their shoulders they have they know that i can't go out tonight and lay a turd i have to be messy beckham and larry bird i can't go out and be like oh you pretty good game through up you know six points three rebounds no i've got i got 33 12 and 15 like i have to be larry bird i have to be messy i have to be beckham so uh it's pretty interesting pretty interesting i've never thrown up before a big game uh or anything like that that's when i did mine for a big bounce that's what it was like we had we had like we had a downstairs gymnasium under the main gym in high school where we can shoot around get some workout in before the game while like the jv game or whatever was going on yeah and so had already kind of gotten the body moving and it was just it was a big game it's hot we were in the gym we were in like the the tunnel from the locker room into the main gym for like starting line-ups and all that and i started just getting so nervous i was like i feel like the heat gets me to feel like as soon as we go up for layup lines i'm gonna throw up on the corner i'm gonna get this out now yeah i'll admit i felt um i felt the stomach a little bit on the 18th holy yesterday our batch yeah i needed to make it it was only like two and a half feet for birdie to win it came down to the last the last shot uh john ashford have made his birdie we were one up so we needed a birdie to match to win or it would have been a half match and you know that they didn't concede they wanted to see it it was like that rory distance i mean yeah it can be missed but uh call my nerves and i dreamed it i had how did you call him your nerves deep breath i stick stuck with my routine have you noticed i have a pretty solid routine all that i thought yeah behind walk forward twirl the putter wants right behind no practice stroke and just right through and that's i just stuck with a routine very good thank you very much we are the winner of some imaginary money right because we've never we didn't see any of it i kept waiting for my venmo to pop up we did get uh plenty how much swag from from matchanella i think he was gonna give that to us either way but now how much did we win twenty bucks twenty bucks each one dollar close out yeah oh okay it's all right well we'll look forward to that correct uh bobby you know ty ranch in the in the chat says i almost threw up in my company's gal tonight when i was going to introduce my work wife to my girlfriend what's a work wife like you're my work what i oh i am your work wife yeah the person you spend a lot of time you're close to your work yeah and poly is too poly is like my work poly i'd say is like my work brother and you're my work wife yeah does that make sense yeah but it's different because it's not an inappropriate relationship but it's a it's a deep and meaningful relationship very but it's it's yeah we're we're the same sex and so if you have a work well that's a weird well like that's a weird one to be like hey but why would you but why would you be nervous about it bobby i'm very curious about this something going on maybe that he didn't want girlfriend to find out about i don't know yeah work why obviously we know what a work wife is it's your your your best friend female at work in the office but there's just the three of us in here now if we had a a female on this show Hannah i think knows i would be very close with her i would be talking to her every ask poly i mean phone calls you get for me a day me and hello me only only two yesterday i mean you had to be exploring when you had no Brian was on your show she was on my show she's been on our show she's insanely talented she was kind of my work wife and i would spend like hours on the phone with her very not intimate in the sense of of physical but an intimate relationship confiding in her she confiding in me now jay says work wife is someone you date if you were single like that that's the person like you all right if it ever came to it oh bobby here it is here's the answer um i always talked about her i just didn't tell my wife that well she was really good looking ah yeah who her she's ugly downplayed it a little bit downplay it a little bit like ben's work wife kimberly hunt we sit next to each other at work yeah you guys are friendly billy ray will feel wallet is already there i mean they're a little closer they're anchors together brandon's kelly danick is our work wife but she's not in the same studio kelly's great we don't really get to see her much yeah we don't and she feeds in her traffic reports from uh parts unknown i always talked about her i just didn't tell her she was really good looking bobby in the chat just let us know how did uh your wife take it boy no his girlfriend i think that's why no the work wife introduced to the girlfriend the actual girl oh i thought it was yeah the work wife to my real life all right the profit all right yeah let me know how that uh how that goes there's a lot but i'm sure there's been situations at holiday parties where you know oftentimes significant other doesn't meet work colleagues outside of holiday story that's the one time in the year where you actually mix business and personal life obviously uh very silent drive home you should what i would have said hey maybe we should all kiss and see how that goes and just throw it out there to diffuse the situation i don't know that that would have helped what do you bet what do you think she said she is i just i hadn't really noticed she was really attractive but what if we all just kissed who's i just see everybody's inner beauty i don't i don't i don't you're you're you're the only one for me but if he is something that you want it to do i would support that who's adam's work but i don't know like you'd be any of us could be any of us probably me like going and chris their work works spouses i wonder who i'd probably wear them out like my wife wears me out the most me to have them i'm probably yeah i'm probably his workwife yeah be very is it extra sweet because it's against the dogs extra sweet because you're my workwife no it's not we get to go today hang out with uh adam probably and i do i'm gonna be down at the uh padre's game today if you see a say make sure you say hello and uh gonna go watch hopefully the sweep today jeff says i had a workwife once and when i talk about it to my girlfriend it did not go well at all then i brought my girlfriend to a work thing about my workwife even worse so apparently this is a real thing that i was unaware of yeah well i mean it's just us in here you know surprise you keep it that way where our wives know yeah like my wife is your wife knows me but we yeah we should just keep it that way probably as much as i would love to have like LOB here dominating the airwaves with us you know it uh not so that's a that's an interesting story how do we get from vomiting to work life oh the he said he was gonna vomit that's why he was gonna vomit wow yeah that's interesting interesting have you never vomited before a big thing no i really know i'd be an anxious person no i'm not an anxious what do you mean i'm an anxious person really you are yet you're a i've been anxious i've told you i have like the um like the sign feldian non vomit street going i i've honored for no reason whatsoever i keep it down i always i always keep it down all it even when i feel it bubbling up i can i can fight it back down it feels so good to get it out though and i always think if there i disagree no it sucks in the moment but i hate the moment so much i'd rather deal with better you feel better every time every time i'd rather just fight it down i don't want i do not want to have that feeling of it coming back up it's up dying i hate that but then when you're done you're good carlos says he's vomit free since 93 that's really good three it's 30 plus years uh rafael says what i vomit on helicopter i know i would vomit before before i had to get on it i would and i says there's plenty of females i'd be chill with being your work wife plenty i would not interesting very very interesting uh no it was an interesting conversation so um having these comments these comments these comments are great man these are great coming up here in the second half of benham woods we have brat boone joining us on a big league wednesday he'll be with us at the bottom of the hour i always enjoy our baseball conversations with booney did not mention it earlier but let's ask him about vomit if he did i bet he's never vomited no chance uh we will have another pair of tickets to give away to def leopard and journey at pet co-park didn't mention that earlier but the show is on august 30th tickets are on sale at ticket master dot com they'll have a chance to win them coming up here and uh we got paul with his rival report and headlines and uh going for the sweep today early game today pod raisin pirates it's a one ten star getaway day for the pirates who uh fly back to pitchburg after the game hopefully with their season uh well it's already kind of in tatters but just put the nail in the coffin is they have they lost nine in a row nine so they're going for the big delta digit losing streak today i hope to give it to them i know we can do in the uh next segment so good i would like to play the incorporate or we haven't gotten to that oh yeah thank you and uh katelyn in the chat asked woods would you vomit at the fister i wonder if don or sillow vomited oh my god when he saw the ghost that he talked about on the broadcast you guys missed this last night it's elite elite television last night good content from both radio and television broadcasts of the pod rais last night coming up next after kelly's traffic from wherever kelly is right now on san diego's number one sports station 97 through the fan only happens um just a handful of times during the season but i love when i am actually in the car got the radio on and i hear the incorporate her life happened last night the feeling yeah i was having dinner with my boys and we were driving back and it was the i say the sixth inning and i started here i started hearing and i go oh i think i think it's coming and i was like telling my son here comes here comes the incorporate her and i was right so poly is going to set it up jesse agler yesterday our third week of song lyric incorporate her and here's what we uh tasked jesse with so that's the best part so this one actually just came up organically today because we're playing take on woods and this was our two second song we thought this would be perfect for jesse so poly if you would if you fall i will catch you i'll be waiting time after time a little bit of a little leading there leading the witness but you do you do with it what you want it's fun because there's like a few different ways oh yeah i thought that was a good one absolutely all right so yes sixth inning yesterday i remember i looked at me i looked at my car at 8 23 i'm texting poly i heard it so he doesn't have to go searching for it in the morning so here it was with pod rays up to nothing against pittsburgh pirates last night and uh and here's jesse think back to that no hitter great play jackson barrel backing up his androbo guards and johnnie on the spot team baseball if you fall i will catch you i'll be waiting definition of having your guys back or front in that case time after time oh my god there's like one to get caught nothing in one had to wait to finish it after tony had his thought it's so good that was just that was brilliant i really like the new direction of the incorporated with the song lyrics i think it is really really giving it a boost of energy and a refresher that you needed to be and it's just incredible that he was able to do that so so so so good but yeah i was watching television last night and uh finally got the kids down and settled in it was it was a it was tumultuous we had lunches and garbage to take out on all this and baths and finally got them down and i just plopped down and went finally all right i'm kind of listening to it in the background sit down well and they start talking about mookie bets and they mentioned yeah they're saying uh uh it was a bad question you guys believe in ghost he said mookie bets is not staying at the fister in milwaukee because he's a scared he's scared of the fister fister yeah absolutely yeah and he so he gets an air b&p and so somebody i think it was ray and ramona asked the question do you guys believe in ghosts i told scandalous earlier before the game too i was at a hotel which i don't think exists anymore it was a triple a in louisville executive suites i don't think it exists anymore but anyway there were several things happening there over the years of players are talking okay my friend so my ironing board i was lying on the bed came off of where it was being held now it's usually in a closet came off and hit the ground and opened up completely like ready to be used led so i tried to recreate i'm like okay i'm not going to make a big deal about this that seems very unusual there's got to be science so i went over and i pulled it up and then dropped it like five times it would never do it again interesting yes but my question was did the ghost start ironing no he could have brought a shirt over in a pair of slacks there would have been some work out of the ghost very helpful because i can't iron to save my life i create creases that were not there before he also talked about what he also talked about a couple of the guys i think it was in when he was with the red socks minor leagues in one hotel would see and 1920s gangster like an old man in 1920s gangster perfect gatling gun like pinstripe soup gashy like with suit suit suit and the fedora and the whole thing i was rolling so um just a couple of comments and it'll oftentimes like with the fister it's at a hotel or the hotel del but it's usually like an old historic hotel don said his was at the executive suites sounds like chain hotel it definitely was it'll be lucky it's an atom clue hotel if there's an option to book us in a nice place for the executive suite he's booking us you don't usually hear about the haunted comfort in no no usually don't it's usually like oh well this yeah it's built on an ancient burial ground it's built in 1870 uh so that's why that's why it's haunted but then he started talking there aren't those irons though aren't they designed like when they come out to automatically unfold but don said he tried and he couldn't get it to recreate and unfold itself in land i'm assuming the fabric part is out right and then it falls and lands somehow and it's open and standing up or maybe you know the fabric parts ends if i fold out and then you just push it right back into it slot in the closet right but that's so that would work that one could just be happenstance but where it really got interesting is when he started talking about he said seeing knobs turn turning hot water on and off he said he looked down and saw the knobs turning now that would be enough uh to get me that would get me that's horror movie stuff that's horror movie stuff and then scan weight in and was talking about uh some of his old teammates and there was a hotel that they used to stay at and uh essentially he said in the middle of the night the middle of the night the tv would turn on and start changing channels and there would be loud bangings and things like that and he said they they would get up and check out of the hotel now i know you're a non-believer in it but there's so there was something going on those stories from dawn last night killed me part of it is that i just want to be a non-believer because i don't want to have anything else to worry about uh andros asking uh because i'm i will be sleeping in a historic hotel tonight we're doing our staycation oh yeah at the the Lafayette and it opened in 1946 so i mean if it could i mean that's uh that's uh 80 years that it's had to get haunted at some point with weird things happening but hopefully there won't be any weird things that happen now i've never heard of anything at the Lafayette have not either so i mean i think you might be in but you know older buildings tend to also make more unusual sounds like creaky pipes and you know things that just happen as a building kind of settles in it sounds spooky but there's probably a rational explanation for why you're you're hearing those noises in the middle of the night i mean mod basically said that he you know he'd heard those stories too and he would just get in bed and sit up and say if you want to get me come and get me i'm right here and he said nothing which is one bull by the horns yes very assertive uh but man those guys last night they donnie had me rolling rolling was so good all right we'll come back brought bono join us on a big league wednesday we'll talk about baseball's pennant races and uh we'll ask bony how he feels about uh throwing up before games haunted hotel happened haunted hotels on the road or just stop by brett also the host of the brett boone podcast featuring the most notable names in mlb and around sports every week and brett i will start with this topic that we had earlier in the show did you ever get so nervous like before a game that you threw up no no we didn't think so i didn't hear my ear but not never throw up we were watching hunter green last night sec i believe it's the second time that he's uh taken the mound grab the ball and just vomit it you know the nerves and not nerves i would imagine it's just adrenaline right adrenaline maybe a little anxiety um is that well i guess that's just combined together nerves that's true yeah i think it it's something i thought you know i i think i had a teammate that used to do that and it i didn't think differently of him i just thought man his body works in a weird way i i mean i'm not going to say i was never never uh the subject of nerves of course of course butterflies i remember you know my first when i went to the world series and i think it was game three at the old yankee stadium you know i went out before the game to get my sprints in like i did every single day my entire life and it had been the yankee stadium twenty times and it was something was different though it was game three i looked around and something came over me it wasn't a throw up come over me but it was something different um so yeah i i think we all just handle uh whatever it whatever it is the nerves of butterflies anxiety whatever it is i think we all have on different way obviously he likes to throw up but i don't know if he likes it but that's what he does yeah i don't know if he actually enjoys it but yeah i just think it's something he probably laughs about it like i can't control it's just how my body is just what happens that's amazing that's what happens when you like i said i don't i don't think any differently up yet no we all handle it the wrong way we all handle it in our own way yeah he's been really by the way by the way did i hear you guys we're giving out def leopard tickets i'd like to put my name on the list i as an Odyssey employee i don't know for you cam but we can certainly ask the boss of the powers of being dropped i could drop the label for first he's quitting it's quite quick that's how bad you want to see def leper see so they're gonna win the tickets i love def let's see him i got to see him uh and they put me on the stage for the concert in Seattle back when i was playing they're still this day my all-time they're my all-time guys i love them what's your favorite song good guys oh i couldn't even pick one but i'm going to go back to uh before pyromadian i'm going to go with high and dry dry not pour some sugar on no more than sir worst song yes but no no the new stuff's fine uh but i'm a high and dry guy me too not to i could put that album on it just brings me back to seventh grade getting ready for the dance nothing like it that one and pyromania for me that was throw up before the dance and seventh grade no no he did not throw up before the dance breath boom dude when you uh when you played as far as like nerves and stuff go you know you're playing playing infield nothing better than getting the first pitch of the game just six hopper right at you and then it's done it's over with you know it waiting for that first one for me as long as i played getting that first one out of the way of the utmost importance get the first one make it clean and call it a day i'll tell you there's certain points in every season that there's those butterflies and then the rest of them they all run together and they you know the Tuesday night in july i could care less no it's just this is business as usual this is what i do but there's certain points in every season i don't care how much experience i had down to my last year in in baseball and there's certain points on a great year you'll get nervous six times so always the first about of spring training always didn't matter if i was a 14 year veteran didn't matter if my working year that first at bat in spring training and it is a hill of beans it doesn't matter nobody cares nobody's gonna sue it but for my own well-being i cannot embarrass myself the first about it i don't want to chase a break-and-ball foot off the plate and start my season off that way so as long as i just had an okay at bat i don't care if i get a hit just put it in play don't strike out so that that once i get over that i'm fine the rest of spring is a walk in the park opening day if you're fortunate enough having a great year you go to the all-star game that first at bat in the all-star game you just want to get through it you don't care if you you want to get a hit i always want to get a hit sir i'm playing with a ball in the backyard i want to get a hit but i just don't i want to save face and then you know if your team is good enough to get to the post-season always that first at bat in the post it just get it off on the right note because after that it's easy you know opening day it's just get through opening day and then the season really starts on game too you just want to get through opening day so those are the points in every season and like i said it didn't matter if it was my first year or my last year i always had those butterflies um in those situations because we were believe it or not that's what players that's our biggest biggest fear is embarrassing ourselves you know i used to tell Trevor that with that stupid change up each room i said i don't care if you get me out i want to get a hit but i'm not going to swing in this that stupid change up by our foot and uh you know turns out most of my my career at bats against Trevor started with a fastball away foreseamer just on a tee because i was so worried about the change up i took it so anyway that's what that's what players are all you guys want behind the curtain that's what players really care about it don't embarrass yourself it's funny too because your mookie bets just came off the i.l his first a.b he embarrassed himself he he waved a pitch and fell over and the whole thing and everyone's going i and i i was smart enough bret i've learned many many years doing this you don't run your mouth till the game's over uh i we were a lot of pottery fans going uh-huh welcome back mookie well next a.b comes up and hits an absolute tank and i just thought to myself that's uh that's how you redeem yourself it's it is good to hear that these pro baseball players they make money they're sharp you know they're cool as hell everybody looks up to them yeah man they're they get as nervous as the rest of us out there the other question oh yeah we're as vulnerable we're as vulnerable as insecure as anybody you know you know we have that tough exterior and look how cool we are in that swabé and inside you're going do i still got do i still got their humor yeah we have all the we have all those insecurities that everybody else the other question is in all your years of uh of team travel and hotels did you ever have a paranormal encounter on the road no no no go stories don't believe in them i'll tell you i've done a few shows recently and i hear the big topic is the pepfister yes yeah it is the pepfister it's not the fister with that it's just absolutely one of our favorite places it's probably the worst hotel on that big league surface and for the for the most part you know we all all the teams you know there's some there's some there's there's some changes but for the most part we all kind of stay whatever cities we go to most of the teams kind of stay in the same place now when i was playing with the maris we'd stayed a different place we went to dallas then maybe because of the relationship with the organization or whatever but for the most part uh we we kind of stay in the same hiltons same height so we all have stories and the fister was always kind of everybody would laugh oh that was the fister because it's it's supposed to be haunted i never saw anything there um and now i'm not a disbeliever in it i'm a believer in those evil spirits hopefully i'd never see one but uh no i i never ran in any problems where i've heard a lot of stories that that people have and we talked last week talking to bret booneer on ben woods this morning so i i had a little panic moment last night booney and i thought of you so i've got fantasy baseball team and george kirby is on my fantasy team mariners whoa yeah he had a rough one you really really good picture and i went to check my lineup and i went oh you idiot i forgot to start him last night oh oh my god i didn't i didn't put him in gave up like 11 earned runs but i was watching the m's over the weekend and uh it was pretty to see what a rosarena has brought to that team has been pretty incredible man he he has changed kind of and then watching cal rali and those guys i know we talk potteries we talk mariners too but uh to see what a rosarena is that i think that was a really really elite pickup for them i think you know as far as the trade deadline go i think the pajres made huge moves uh because they both are that bullpen and now arguably the best bullpen to get to suares but i look at the mariners too they were in my top you know i i made a ranking of who who i think did the best there were no blockbuster deals as everybody knows because none of the big time stars were available really but there were a lot of low-key low-key additions i think the pajres did really well but i think the mariners did really well too and it's not necessarily they didn't get me mvp's they didn't get any uh uh hall of fame closures but i'll tell you they made some sneaky moves they got garcia from toronto which replaces the matt brash who went down with tommy john and there's really been a hole in that bullpen i think you felt that you mentioned a rosarena he's probably having his worst year yeah uh in his big league career but he's got a lot of experience he's got a flair for the dramatic in the post season he's been there done that he's actually swinging a lot better than he did in the first two three months i mean he was hitting 165 yeah phenomenal definitely on the recovery there but i think as much as you know i i've been through this now about three four years i've kind of come to the other side you know what i first started doing this i i'd look at the modern failure in the celebrations and i would just kind of it was an i-roll like am i really watching this but i kind of i've gotten at the point where i'm so used to it now it's not an i-roll anymore it's hey this is the way the game is these days what i think a rosarena brings to that mariner team is a personality that can rival Julio Rodriguez and Julio is obviously their young 23-year-old star that's really not having a good year he's been on the i-L for a while just came back i think a rosarena veteran guy like that with a big personality kind of in a way challenges Julio and kind of likes a little bit of a fire that you know who could out personality one another so i think that's going to be a good thing for him i also think that Justin Turner thing is huge from a club how you love the turner move you love the turn oh i love it he's a jt jd martina's type type guy and he's a guy that just has a presence well respected in the game 39 years old and a lot of great teams with daily codgers and i just think he's another great presence so low key moves but nevertheless i think really effective and for the mariners to do it Julio's got to get going at some point Cal Raleigh's been the guy you know he's hitting low average but he's high power great great backstop for that mariner team really handles that pitching staff and you know for my money the best pitching staff one through five and baseball really handles them well but they're going to need they're going to need a roblaze has also been a nice addition coming over from the Watson National so he does a really nice job form Crawford's still out on the i-L their short stop they need him back but if all the pieces fall into place with that pitching staff uh Seattle like the San Diego Padres if they get a seat at the table they they can do some damage in the postseason will be interesting to watch talking to Brett Boone insider calls brought to you by Granger and Brett Padres have won for the first time in franchise history 18 of 21 games and i went back and looked at i figured i figured you gone through this and you did in in 2001 the mariners won 15 straight and 20 of 22 late may early june and i what do you remember about that about a team being as locked in as as you guys were then as the Padres seem to be right now well that was a mediocre month for us in 2012 we're used to winning 24th now i'm kidding uh that that 2001 seat it was it was different you know we've talked about it before it was a magic carpet ride it was like nothing i ever have been through in my professional career uh to that point you know i was on some great teams in Cincinnati in 94 95 a great Braves team in 1999 we won 100 and i don't i forget we won 103 out of four but that's the atle team one in 116 it's like we never lost and uh it's just a great feeling for the Padres to rattle this off you know when when they're their biggest star arguably tautises down and with not having a musco not having a dar the uh it's pretty remarkable and and i think this team's really coming together they're at top at all the all the offensive categories in in the national league or or near the top um this is just a really good team and you mentioned and and i heard you guys talking about the additions you made at the allster or at the trading deadline it really bolts through that bullpen and i and i think i think in today's game 2024 i think that big time bullpen plays really big in the post season so the the Padres shored that up you got musco back he pitched forward i think four and a third the other day he had no runs i i saw i saw him get an interview last night the Padres went over Pittsburgh the second one and uh he had really good things to say and it didn't you know it kind of confidently saying hey i feel i felt great it's great to be back there was no uh indecisiveness in his voice so it's it's paramount i think for the Padres to have musco over the top of that rotation he's been kind of the rock in the last three or four years and saying he ain't gonna have him back into feeling healthy and no he didn't have any uh he wasn't wavering like oh it felt kind of good now he said it feels good now i'm ready to go so that's that's huge they won nine of ten along with the eighteen and three man they're knocking on the door uh to to the LA Dodgers three and a half back the problem is right now LA's not losing either they won five straight uh diamondbacks have won nine of ten so they're really not making as much hay as as they should be with this run but uh they put themselves in real good position uh to go to the postseason and as we know it's it's not about you always want to win the division you always want to to raise that flag that you won the division but in today's game it's just not that important no get there able to get there and they're this poverty team is is really good and uh they're they're making a big case they're gonna they're gonna have a chance we are out of time thank you as always i appreciate it and i'll share a little fact to it about that 15 winning streak for the mariners uh on the other end again thanks to brat bonne rattle report and more final hour of benewoods coming up next on 97 three the man that guy can talk i give him it gets me nervous i had to wrap up brat bonne a little uh a little quickly there but that's just because brat's so good and can tell stories and talk uh baseball with us so much but odyssey insider brat bonne calls presented by granger with supplies and solutions for every industry granger as the right product for you call clickgranger.com or just stop by and i i asked him about that 15 game winning streak part of that incredible 2001 mariners regular season and uh it ended with a loss to the san diego pot race six to three with uh bobby j jones out dueling the then undefeated freddy garcia and trevor often getting the save and getting brat bonne i don't know if he struck him out or just got him out in the ninth inning but i hope he didn't embarrass him with one of those change ups in that game when the pot race beat the mariners and then they have the 20 and 22 there's also the pot race who ended that one with an 11 to 9 win uh at uh quarkam stadium at the time when they ended that 20 of 22 streak by the mariners with a win that day i love what he said about about about offie just like don't please don't embarrass me because that that's the pitch that can the slider to a righty and the change up i think are the two pitches that really if you're late on a fastball you're late on a fastball i mean it's uh yeah there was a heater i missed it but you don't look like an idiot when you ass out swinging a slider or when you when you start your swing and you're already done and that ball hasn't gotten anywhere near home plate because trevor hopman just broke a broke a change up they really make you look like a fool i think we're more understanding now that people like pitching ninja exist yes and you can see the um yes like the pitch that looks exactly the same halfway and all that only going okay i totally understand why he'd swing at that because he just saw a pitch that looked exactly the same of course it was right in the wheelhouse that he took and then he throws the next one and it breaks four feet and he's swinging and he looks like a moron but of course looked exactly the same when the pitcher released the ball yeah yeah that's incredible hey real quick uh a few months back we had a uh a couple in studio yeah kyle and uh his his wife and his wife has passed away she was ill when they came in and they brought us donuts and they wanted to hang out and and they did and they were incredible incredible people um kyle's wife has passed away uh in june and this is their son logan's seventh birthday today and it's his first birthday without his mom so uh logan if you're listening happy birthday man we uh we are thinking about you and hope you have a great day and uh man kyle our heart goes out so you guys are awesome awesome people and uh just i hate that you're you're going through this and um i want to wish logan we all do a really really happy birthday if there's anything we can do uh to make his day better please let us know it was so great to meet him that's such a good attitude the whole family when they came in and that was uh that that's sad but it sounds like uh sounds like logan has really good dad and yeah and hopefully they're going to be just okay yeah tier ones are thinking about you this morning happy birthday logan how are you transition from now i don't know we're gonna just go to the rondel report open call it take this away go call it i got a story and you think started here with our addition today's edition of the rondel report now tuned it to them off greatest welcome to the rondel report with paul rindel hi paul right two stories from the world of sports that we haven't gotten to yet we'll start off in major league baseball and one story that you didn't know you needed are you laughing beyond it's the rindel report hey paul how you doing okay how are 97 three the fan are you ready to bless the mood i need some help please that was good can i get a whole year all right i'd be very careful with whatever you're gonna say here pauling because you're our transition so yeah thanks for that guys no i was already like starting to like choke up i know it was very sad and attitude yeah they were so sweet when they were in studio incredible kyle thinking about you logan happy birthday this rondel report is for you buddy yes carrie was his wife's name yes carrie she's great uh okay moving on we will uh let's see we'll start so if logan wants to come in tomorrow and do my spot on the round table i'd be happy to offer that to him for his birthday they're talking in the chat can we get him some tickets again i don't have any extra tickets to game but logan adam adam if you're listening i'd like to give my spot to logan for uh his birthday let him come in and chew it up chew the fat with Ben and hello and all those guys well i mean don't leave kyle if he wants to host and then kyle it might be yes i'm not on staycation so i'm going to be partly checked out anyway it's true that's true it's done for all right let's uh we still got a little bit of olympics fallout everybody's still thinking and talking about the olympics now uh we briefly talked about the closing ceremonies they had the uh the handoff from france to the united states tom cruise all the production that went into that yeah and then it turned into a concert on the beach at the red hot chili peppers you had a billy ish i think they were in venness or Santa Monica there on the beach and you had snoop dog because of course he was getting paid like half a million a day for his olympics coverage i don't like the olympics much but if you want to stroke me 500k a day i will be lord olympics welcome to the olympics it's your old pal woodsy why the olympics simply the best snoop got on stage he performed a song and then afterwards you heard dr dray's music and dr dray came out and he performed with snoop and so dr dray was doing an interview i believe this was yesterday with entertainment tonight and they asked him about the olympics and as a an icon in los angeles he's going to be heavily involved in four years but he doesn't want to just be like a spokesperson kind of like what snoop was he wants to compete in the olympics well he's not an olympian break dancing he's not olympian they asked him about that he felt so he felt very bad for that australian break dancer she did it she did it on purpose she did it like to why are we why are you feeling bad for some of this is i'm not actually a break dancer i'm just gonna go out and break dance why are you feeling bad for them well dr dray is 59 years old right now he'll be 63 okay stuff be an olympian 63 and he guesses on what he would like to do i really have no idea here's the idea i'm i'm trying to try out for the olympics in 2028 i i'm um really good right dancing no no no no no no what are you trying out for where are you going to try out for it archery and you're being serious i'm dead-ass series yeah okay so where does this come from where did you pick up archery i actually started playing around with archery in junior high right i stopped for a while and my son bought me a set up i think i don't know if it's for my birthday or father's day or something like that so i have it set up in my backyard and i heard that qualifying for the olympics is 77 feet not practice at 90 yeah wouldn't that be interesting to go especially good to be in here in LA and when it goes back listen i'm so available but i believe you i believe you can try to do all right with me come on i'll get it i i i feel like i can do anything so he said he practices at a further range than i mean what you need for qualifying for the olympics i saw a video that was posted he literally like he just walked up grabbed a bow and just boom so he did yeah oh yeah i don't know if there was some confusion there because he said 70 feet and he practiced at 90 the olympic archery is 70 meters which is 230 feet okay so he's about that's like three quarters of a football field that they're doing in archery unless he's unless he meant 90 meters as well maybe he did but that's 90 where would you find a range to be shooting arrows 90 meters away that's a long way like you can't do that in the backyard that's that's like you've seen his higher well have you seen his doctor dray probably has a pretty big backyard dray is worth 400 million dollars i think if he wants to find an archery that's like where's he get where's the guy with 400 meters if i do 100 meters no way doesn't make in Los Angeles he may actually have it in his backyard that is funny as hell that he thought it was feet hey i can do this he gets up there he's like whoa whoa whoa whoa how am i so far back here shows up you know shows him in the local YMCA for qualifying and he's like why is it so far i can't even see the target you know what ever mine ever mine all right that would be the greatest thing of all time now this next story is interesting i actually got in the car this morning and the show that's on before a cbs sports radio maggie and purloff they had new york post columnist Ian o'Connor on their show and i kind of jumped right into the middle of it so i was kind of figuring out what's going on here what are they talking about post columnist Ian connor Ian o'Connor has a new book coming out on august 20th next monday and it is called out of the shadows the mystery of erin rogers and the story he tells the story from all different angles from erin rogers friends his parents and it focuses on i mean look we've talked about erin rogers a lot and you know i think uh like him or hate him and i'm kind of in the the ladder there it's been really hard to like him i think the last few years um he's an interesting cat yeah i mean he's a very interesting very very interesting guy and uh they i think they talk about the ayahuasca stuff yeah but they talk about his family life which has been public fodder now for like 10 years yeah he's estranged from his family yes yeah and it focuses on that by the way it's not uncommon talks about not uncommon at all he dated a liviam mon from 2014 to 2017 it says here uh depending on who you ask their relationship was either the catalyst for rogers no longer speaking to his family or a facade used by the quarterback uh to hide the real reason for the fracture or by his family to hide the real reason and it says um a liviam mon allegedly called erin rogers his parents and told them you can't see him anymore like they were coming to a game and or they went to a game and he had a bad game and then they were coming to the next one and she said no he doesn't want you there you're not allowed and they still went and they did not see erin rogers and uh and then it says that ed rogers is dad he refutes this idea that a liviam mon tried to help everybody reconcile and get back together he said that's not even close to what happened um liviam mon's now with john malaney she said that she was instrumental in mending the fences and ed roger says yeah that's a lie there's no fences that have been mended though right right it's very gossipy i don't know these books i mean it makes it sound like rogers went out and had a bad game and blamed his parents for it and decided you know i'm just never going to speak to my parents again that should solve everything in my career it's weird it's weird it doesn't make any sense and honestly i i used to consider myself and erin rogers fan um you know seemed like he had a thoughtful approach to the game and i really wouldn't mind all the the quirky stuff that he's done but he's so dang condescending about it all he makes everybody else feel like oh i must be a complete moron because i don't agree with erin rogers right like the uh the way he talks yeah about everything is just he's he seems so smug and smug and superior about it yeah i did i mean i liked his like spiritual journey stuff it was really interesting to me and i i think you know things like that can help you know and the cave thing was the darkness retreat was fascinating to fascinate i'm not for me but you know that there's definitely something there but then he treats it all like with the rest of us the rest of us are just we haven't opened our eyes to the real world and what's going on it's like eh the funny you know the funny thing about when he missed the mini camps he's like yeah i mean i wanted to play football but i wanted to go to egypt more he is going to egypt instead i mean there's something in there that i kind of i kind of respect and uh but i you do make a good point he is he is just kind of kind of jerkish just as rogers is a phd and mansplaining i do a lot of ben's playing you do but you don't know i hope i don't come off as condescending no not to me arrogant as he does when he's doing it not at all if you're an olivia mont fan i would stay away from this book it uh at least from the author's point of view and whoever he talked to throughout the book does not paint her in a good light yeah uh like sending christmas presents that the parents sent errand and sending them back oh we don't want these oh hello yeah yeah yeah i don't know if i'll read it i don't think i will i don't think i will either don't i don't don't care that much no to me i don't really read a ton of books anymore i read books but i i don't think i don't know if that's going to be one for me don't blow my hair back let me ask you uh just coca-cola blow your hair back yeah do oreo one of my vices blow your hair back yeah not one of my vices what does uh an oreo coca-cola collaboration not much not much at all i don't i don't really like i never really like chocolate soda i don't think yeah i don't think you don't want to put the oreos in the soda so how do you get the soda into the oreo maybe well it's coming uh from both sides there so we have coca-cola teaming up with nabisco for not just an oreo flavored coca-cola drink but also a coca-cola flavored oreo cookie that i might try over the oreo drink right with this the icing maybe has a little coke flavor cookies and cream essentially flavored beverage so they say the beverage is a refreshing coca-cola taste with flavorful hints inspired by oreos and it's going to it won't be diet coke or coca-cola it's actually going to be a coke zero oreo and then the cookie the coke flavored cookies says has the coca-cola inspired taste the fans know and love one side of each oreo is red okay and then the white cream has red edible glitter mixed in what hmm these will all be rolled out the drink listed next month they're selling a frozen version of the drink at 7-11 and mcdonald's like a slushy slurpy slurpy and then uh they are calling it a besties promo like nabisco and coca-cola okay so the um the fl- the cola flavors that's you don't you know i like not like i like those i like coca-cola i like those gummy coca bottle candies it's disgusting god the wax ones not the wax ones no gummies okay the actual gummies like the hair of old gummy yeah there's a pretty good cola bottle flavored i like those ones do you like are you a coke guy i used to be i'm definitely coke over pepsi but i've pretty much stopped drinking all sodas completely that's one of the things that i've altered in my lifestyle i had to choose coke or oreos i'm taking coke no i go with oreos straight i i still have had oreos i can live i can live without coke i can live without oreos for the rest of my life i cannot live without coke it's one of my main vices not as many as i used to have but by the ones i have now i mean coke i feel like drinking a lot of coke i don't drink a lot but a couple of week i'm like people are like oh it's mad for you to have in like four cocktails i'm like i can't win i tried coke zero it's not bad i can't i like it i still can't i like die i like it but i can't drink anything diet i i instantly know if it's diet and go i think coke zeros it's pretty decent i won't do pepsi but i don't like when sodas do i like okay so what's the what's the acceptable alterations to your favorite soda cherry coat cherry coat phenomenal i like when you go to uh the restaurant the fast food yeah they have the has the machine or you can do whatever you want whatever your brain can by the way end of list it's done just cherry jerry i don't like vanilla vanilla coke no i don't like vanilla coke like a diet coke with vanilla delicious right but when they started to like orange raspberry and no dr pepper does like strawberries and cream dr pepper i don't want that i don't like a lot of fruit in my dreams except for cherry i think we can all agree on this thank you thank you poly dd says slow sports day yeah yeah thanks for her dg thanks for asking yeah very much what does he want us to talk about nfl pre-season action probably surely temples are good lsm what are the 49ers are going to do with brandon i use i i heard he's staying see how we're going to show up to just we just talked about erin rogers for like five minutes yeah we just talked about erin roger sports and dr dray more pot raise coming up one more game on this very short homestand i will be there and we got to give away a journey def leopard tickets coming up as well after traffic here at 97 3 the fan as much as we talk pot raise baseball four hours every day plus watching the games every night plus round table plus the round table weekends i mean you know our life is fairly pot raise centric as i know a lot of the tier one's lives are i'm always shocked of the things that i don't know about the san diego pot raise and this just came into my feed during the break and i i've certainly was not surprised by the number one player on the list but it's a list of major league baseball players ranked by their ops in high leverage situations saw this there's three pot raise who have an over 900 ops in high leverage situations poly you have any idea who's number one said one more time the highest the best pot raise their best players in the league in high leverage situations so you know runners on close and late who's doing well it's pretty obvious jerks is number one in the league probably in the early mile good god his his sixteen hundred and twenty seven ops is who like five hundred more than cal rali whose number two uh... in half is number three number four is also a san diego pot jackson mary it's been in the news lately with a couple of a high leverage home runs big situations jackson mary one thousand eighty nine you could have given me ten guesses as to who's the third pot ray on this list and i would not have gotten kyle hagashi oka that would make sense brice john's not him many mature no not many sander boga not zander luisa rise not luisa rise oh hossan kim he's got a nine forty six o_p_s_ and high leverage situation okay interest that surprise everybody who uh... seen more hossan kim slander we need the on on social media among pot raise fans this year that ever before it's look okay let's have a let's have an honest conversation about it there's a of a faction of twitter in general and it this is not potter is exclusive it's the mariners it's the marlin's it's the braves it doesn't matter it doesn't matter who it is there's a faction of people that will horn in on someone and were just roast them then that person starts doing well and then people like me go out how you feeling now right and it's this big circle yeah okay so then they move their tart their sites to another player that maybe scuffling jake chroma worth has been one recently and hossan kim has been one for a while uh... uh... you know once you get past the trade deadline it's a bit of a futile exercise because you have what you have right it's like like it's like we tell our kids you get what you get you don't throw fit i use it fifty times a day especially when i'm feeding them you get what you get you don't throw fit this is the team we have they made some improvements uh... could they have done more maybe that's for another day this is the team we've got the playing really well i don't really horn in on guys anymore there's been a few over the the six years we've been doing this together benny that i've gone to get that guy out here he cannot he's not doing the job he's never gonna do the job some of them i've been right on some of them i've been wrong on puss on kim and now crony is kind of slid into that that role of why is he hitting in the three-hole why is he we had at one point as i was talking to our buddy andy on twitter and he goes gotta get crony out three i go he just gotta hit just now now he got picked off he didn't get picked off but i see he's got twenty percent of the potteries hits right now it goes back to the enjoy the ride enjoyed try to enjoy the ride as much as you can i know these the one thing i don't see from this team and if if i'm wrong tell me i'm wrong anybody look at a player and see a lack of effort from one can you name one player right now in the sand eagle potteries that isn't giving it their all i can't either can i have said that before no i this is the team that i've seen bus their ass sometimes a little too much sometimes trying to do too much which are giving max effort every single day and they're winning way more than they're losing what else can we ask for what else could we possibly ask for as fans of a team more blowout wins i signed me up i'll i'll pay for that right now they are giving you everything they got every single day and that's pretty refreshing to see by the way players behind hot sun kim in the high leverage situation um list this year freddie freeman erin judge show hey oh tani all behind hot sun kim you know who's been one of the absolute worst players in the clutch in baseball this year who four ninety five o_p_s_ show it price harper or price i was told harper has been one of the least clutch players in baseball this year i mean listen we don't hear a lot about that do you when october you say that and yeah it's like it's like still not pitching to him in a big moment right right right right in the playoffs like don't tell me oh well the metric say i i just i that's where i get a little bit well even when you'll versus advanced numbers so remember early in the season when mani was dying i mean he was slumping hard elbow was killing they were still intentionally walking him they still were they were still making moves they're pulling their lefty starter out you know maybe in the fifth inning to get this 97 mile an hour throwing right hander to get in to take mani on and i there's he i see so many pitching changes early in the year that i went they're still walking who wasn't i think they was dave roberts put him on once uh there was a couple of of instances where like you're putting him on man he's not hitting anything right now but it's like rice harper you're not why would you let them beat you if you didn't have to you know as bad as he's you know slumping or not clutch or whatever you want to say um no man i just it those numbers are nuts to me and i'm you know really what it boils down to is i'm just so happy for jerks and pro-far what a monster monster season for him and jackson maryl and those guys getting the job done nobody chris i heard chris elo say this yesterday i mean the contributions you've gotten from those guys are absolutely fantastic and way more than you expected i need to know refresh and the one soto trade in retrospect remember one soto was going to be a free agent at the end of this year he's had a great year had three more homers yesterday but to have jerks and pro-far michael king and kyle hagashiyoka and not not to even mention johnnie brito randy vasquez who've given the potteries and important innings and drew thorp who helped you get dulan cease yeah i don't know you can ever say you won the one soto trade you gave up one so to he's been incredible but for what the potteries needed this year it worked it's been much better for the potteries to have all of those other pieces than just having one soto because they wouldn't have had a place for jerks and pro-far and they wouldn't have had the the pitching that they needed they wouldn't have had kyle hagashiyoka's incredible power surge here this summer all these things that they've gotten from that one soto trade are more valuable to the potteries this year than one soto and his 30 plus home runs would have been that's i think that's pretty clear yeah no doubt so win lose whatever it worked out it's worked out well for the san diego potteries so the funny thing is and then after this year whatever you keep you wouldn't have had one soto after this year they're talking uh so it was 45 played appearances many has 43 batting averages only 200 but a slug is uh no it's up it's up yeah yeah two hundred six ninety seven eighty three weighted runs created so below a hundred average so that not not been great in the clutch arise has been pretty good uh jake has been pretty good 109 wrc plus uh nando in the limited time 222 wrc plus salano 150 and these are pretty good numbers man for yeah i think uh salano and for nando and and peral to haven't had enough at bat yes to have for this list man it's too short arises three short jakes five short so yeah i mean those guys have carried this team it's been pretty cool to see all right we've got some uh tickets to give away uh we have tickets for deaf leopard and journey at petco park on august 30th be the fourth call right now eight three three two eight eight zero ninety seven three to win your pair or get your own tickets at ticket master dot com it's deaf leopard and journey at petco park on august 30th eight three three two eight eight zero ninety seven three we'll come back uh look at the final match up of the series of the season against the pittsburgh pirates of the homestand all wrapping up this afternoon coming up next year on ninety seven three the fam congratulations to tom on the concert tickets to deaf leopard and journey at petco park assuming we'll have more tomorrow now these are weekly sort of things palt not sure so yes we will we will have all week long all week long so if you didn't win today tune in tomorrow maybe we'll give away at a different time tomorrow maybe on your toes to do a bit where like i'd pour some sugar on you oh i get it because the deaf leopard song title yeah like it's kind of messy and sticky a little bit then i have to go to the bathroom clean it all up yeah you just went to the bathroom didn't you just uh a couple minutes ago i dodged a bullet i dodged a real bullet you guys might not be what you're thinking but would you will explain after a check of traffic here on ninety seven three the fam i really liked your teas there you just went to the bathroom didn't you in a normal way like number two no it's not unusual for either of us to use the restroom during during the show it actually is unusual for poly to ever use the restroom spooked when i see something how do you do it something different between being your 30s and 40s apparently yeah i'll be able to hold it for four hours is just oh god yes there's a difference there so i did not poop this is not poop talk it's not it's not knowing someone else is in the bathroom with you correct i dodged a huge huge bullet i guess it kind of is poop talk because i didn't see this person in the bathroom and he's walking by right now i uh go into the bathroom again he was just here right he was just oh my god it's just in there hey are you okay oh no oh he's just getting a towel paper towel okay so i uh told you guys when i was in hawaii we went down and had some Hawaiian barbecue and i was eating some ribs and i guess i got a piece of bone in there and i cracked my tooth there's a there's like part of my i think it's crown missing so i need to get that fixed i also had a cleaning scheduled for yesterday at 11 a.m and had been on the calendar for a while so we were supposed to play golf with Adam Jones so i canceled i moved it i moved it to Thursday tomorrow at 11 a.m completely for that doesn't work completely forgetting that we had the uh 97 3 the fan round table brought to you by round table pizza how could you commercial free i'd been out of the game for so long poly i was on vacation we had an island time i was on island time we had a game last week so there's no round table it's been a while since you've been at a round table so i uh i just forgot that we had it so i called and rescheduled my dentist appointment so then i was sitting here and i just realized oh my god i just remembered we have a round table and i have a dentist appointment so i had to call back so i go i was go and pee and then i also made the phone call kill two birds with one stone which is weird you couldn't just wait until after we had two minutes left i had to go number one and i had to do this thing before we got back on the air you don't want me sitting here while we're on the air going oh yeah that's true too right so i certainly don't want you sitting here going number one right exactly so that that's your options so i go in and i'm like yep i'm so sorry i totally forgot i have an extra hour of work tomorrow and it's at 11 and there's no way i can be down there by 11 can we move it and she said no problem how about noon i said great no problem so 12 o'clock tomorrow i'll be at the dentist what i didn't realize is that uh big boss man her little boss man as it were was sitting in one of the stalls listening to my listening to my everything to my every word now he heard me in there talking and he came in he goes you know i was kind of waiting for you to like trash trash me on a phone call whatever you were reschedually i was waiting for you to start pounding me about it and i said no no i would never as i said many many times i look forward to the round table i'm excited about it i haven't been on it in a while and uh it we played golf with a guy yesterday matchanel who said i love the round table and he told me said what's the i think you do a great job on the round table i said well that makes me happy getting a little positive feedback uh i said yeah and plus tony when jr will be in always love when he's in because he hates you so that's always fun to watch that dynamic so i i really did could you imagine me and they're going uh my idiot stupid boss scheduled this thing i don't want to do it just ripping him and knew it as he's sitting in there snickering in there like you're dead you're a dead man so i did dodge a bullet there the round table is happening tomorrow 11 a.m no 10 a.m right here two eleven two eleven and you do an excellent job on the round table thank you i i have a good time to everyone yeah everybody does it's a lot of fun it is a lot of fun it's just a long morning just a long morning but it's very very fun so we will be back with the round table tomorrow at 10 o'clock after four hours of Ben & Woods uh wrapping up uh you know no game day tomorrow but we do have a game this afternoon one ten first pitch uh twelve ten eco water so-called pre-game show with sam levin you guys are heading down uh while i said head to staycation you guys are going to go down to the game uh check out things that are going on here before the potteries hit the road match up today is uh martin perez making his third start with the sandy eco potteries and facing his former team yeah buddy the pittsburgh pirates so uh see how familiar they are with their ex-team aid potteries will be going up against right hander mitch keller had a pretty good season he's ten and six with a three five six er now his last start he got roughed up by the dodgers i was watching that seven runs seven hits seven uh four innings let's keep those vibes go that ended a streak though of five straight starts in which he allowed uh two or two runs are fewer well you know he has been pitching fairly well recently except for his last start well and listen you know we've we've said about this team uh before this this it's not yeah it's not super sustainable to wait till the six and seventh inning to score your runs but you know they did score one early last night uh when they probably should have had maybe a couple more but sometimes other team makes great plays uh jimon bay made a really nice play on the mani machado sinking uh line drive or bloop whatever it was uh and you know held them to one run but would love to see them get off to a good start today martin perez knock on what has been outstanding since he's been here would just like to see more of the same keep doing exactly what you're doing and uh not a lineup that really scares you very much brian Reynolds continues to mash against the potteries but um you know if you can keep him in check and you know see what happens you know lefty lefty with with brentolds lefty with teles um yeah i mean there's their jimon bay like a bunch of lefties in the lineup do you do your work today man and let's get this guy some runs early and uh he needs to once again probably do what he did in the first two starts and he's six innings and seven innings for perez and with a a likely limited bullpen again today you know after the whole discussion last night about using those high leverage relievers would not be surprised if tanner scott is getting a blow if robert suarez is getting a blow that they can't go to those same guys every single day even though you know mike shilt pushed back a little bit on the questioning we played out audio somewhat you know the awkward exchange in the post-game show but you know mike shilt was right he wanted to win that game but now he'll he'll figure out who's going and hopefully adrin more at home who's been out the last couple of games with the flu and unused you know is he back is he ready to go can they use him uh jeremya strata will he be ready john rennold um you know you you're gonna have to maybe rely on some other arms to date yep yuki's ready to go that'll be easier if martin perez can go another six or seven like he did in those previous two starts very efficient it just 80 and 90 pitches gave up three hits both times he's been fantastic really good competitor man really loves you can tell he loves to compete out there he's always talking himself after knitting like i really like that pickup so far it's the anti-rich hill from last year hopefully that that continues uh today and that dates back his last start with the pirates was six innings four hits no runs as well so three a run of three straight really good starts for martin perez and the potters really need one today and then that gets them to an off day travel day off day where they're gonna fly to to colorado but not until later in the day kaztoni is going to be here uh but that'll be a chance to reset the bullpen and then you gear up because after tomorrow you know that in that place is not the recipe for reset not really but the day off is the day off is but then you've got three in colorado starting 18 games in 18 days could you pick a worst play better to start there or finish there start good question i don't know the answer they're both there's maybe that's a question drawbacks to both maybe that's an answer a question for uh the skipper on friday if you had to choose your schedule would uh 18 and 18 you can finish you can start in colorado or you can finish in colorado what are you choosing now no official announcement but if the pottery stay on rotation uh they'll have uh walter and cease and must grove over the weekend okay walter and who pitched really well in colorado earlier this season yeah didn't hear like a rough first inning and then knuckle down yeah he's done that that's pretty much describing and now walter starts but yeah he had a really really strong start in colorado the knuckle ball didn't didn't mind that thin air at all actually in that start uh so hopefully you know they won't have to go as deep you know as some teams do in their bullpen when they go to coars field uh but that said that's then this is now today first you want to finish strong against the pirates you already want eight straight series haven't done that since 2007 crazy uh you're going for the sweep the series sweep the season series sweep and you've never swept two season series against teams uh before uh with six or more games right was that franchise history yeah if they do the nationals and they do the pirates again today they'll have swept two season series here all all essentially right since the all-star break so yeah really really good stuff right it's gotta keep it rolling today man but offense would be nice offense would be fine some of that would be really really nice they're grinding though they are grinding got a tip my hat to them uh do you like the grit squad but would love to see the blowout squad today other matchups to watch obviously the Dodgers have won five in a row they'll try to sweep the Milwaukee Brewers that's a 5-10 start Walker Bueller against Frankie Montas uh well the Arizona Diamondbacks lose one uh they will host the Rockies that's actually a 12-40 game in Arizona Tanner Gordon against Jordan Montgomery and then wildcard Rays Atlanta and San Francisco wrap up their series that's a night game 645 Grant Holmes for the Braves Robbie Ray almost a must-win game I would say for San Francisco they get swept in that series that's a team they're trying to chase down Atlanta's the one that they need to chase down to get a playoff spot uh that's a that's a pretty important game for Bob Melvin's Giants after losing the first two games of that series you know the guys we played with yesterday asked us both what do you guys think of Bob Melvin we said we like Bob we absolutely like Bob Bob was always good to us yeah there is a pretty market difference though in the way that this team plays for Shilty and the way that uh things went last year I mean don't forget Bob Melvin got us to the NLCS like that can't you can't I guess you have to ask yourself would this roster still be playing well if Bob Melvin was the man it's a good point it's a really good point and and the answer is I have no idea you don't know but I do know that I will say this as awkward as that exchange was last night the Bob Melvin like mannerisms after a really close tough game do not great right yeah just kind of the that stuff huh I mean this is uh you know we wait man yeah yeah we had him do this and yeah I was like oh man you can just you can see the difference uh but the Giants you know again we talked about it yesterday too they're they're kind of a scary team if they if they get on a roll they are kind of a scary team uh to be sure because of the starting pitching that they have Blake Snell has been locked in Logan Web's nasty uh but yeah so we'll see how it all shakes out but we need to get that dub today kiss the road should you kiss today I have not I'm about to do it before the end of the show got it here here's your kiss woods did it earlier I think I did it route at the jump I'll do it again give me one give me another taste of the rally roasts this guy is not letting us down I mean it's pretty much I I mean early on this 18 of 21 streak is where the the roach made his first appearance yes later so we're not gonna stop a good thing even if it was Thursday July 25th okay all right so not long after the all-star break was over it only played like three or four games so yeah maybe like two games into this streak of 18 of 21 when we first found the roach wherever that roach is I hope he's doing well he's dead oh no we killed him actually this roach though has been very beautiful big family out there shout out to his family Annie and Elston are coming up next oh don't miss their potteries deep dive at 11 o'clock is always for
