[MUSIC PLAYING] Fox Sports Update. Minnesota Vikings rookie quarterback JJ McCarthy underwent a full meniscus repair on Wednesday and will miss the entire 2024 NFL season. McCarthy originally felt soreness in his knee after Minnesota's preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders last week, which was later determined to be a meniscus tear. In said game, McCarthy told 188 passing yards, 18 rushing yards, two passing touchdowns, one interception, and a 1-16.8 passer rating while completing 64.7% of his passes. The Vikings traded up to the number 10 pick in the 2024 NFL draft to select McCarthy, who started the previous two seasons and won the 2024 college football playoff national championship at Michigan. McCarthy now becomes the first quarterback to be selected in the first round of the common draft era and miss his rookie season due to injury. McCarthy was competing to be Minnesota's backup to veteran quarterback Sam Darnold, who had signed to a one year deal in the offseason. Nick Mullins will now be the Vikings number two quarterback. Speaking about Mullins, head coach Kevin O'Connell said he's quote, "A guy we know we can rely on to be a snap away." Baltimore Ravens tie then Mark Andrews was involved in a car accident on his way to practice Wednesday but didn't suffer any injuries according to a statement from the team. In a statement of his own, Andrew said quote, "I appreciate everyone's thoughts and well wishes. This is a great reminder about the importance of wearing seatbelts and remaining alert while driving a car." Andrews, a three-time pro bowler, missed seven regular season games in 2023 due to quad and ankle injuries respectively. Across the 10 games that he did appear in, Andrews totaled 45 receptions for 544 yards and six touchdowns. The Texas Longhorns announced on Tuesday that running back Christian Clark tore his Achilles tendon and will miss the entire 2024 college football season. Clark, a freshman, committed to Texas as a four-star recruit in 2023. Clark's injury comes in the wake of fellow running back CJ Baxter suffering a season-ending knee injury last week. Speaking about Clark's injury, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers said quote, "The team definitely needs that positivity every now and then for sure whenever a couple of guys like that go down in that room. We have guys who are going to be more than capable stepping up and filling up those roles. Texas is coming off a 12-and-2 season. That's not reached the college football playoff. I'm Joe Morgan.
