Ben and Brad are back in the dojo to talk about the first part of Netflix's "Cobra Kai" sixth season.

Hey guys, welcome to another episode of Movies in the Meal, a podcast where we talk about movies and other things while we eat. I'm Rick Oho Spent, as always I'm joined with Brad. What's up? This TV Talk episode, it's been out for a couple weeks, but Brad and I finally got around to watching the first third of the sixth and final season of Cobra Kyle Netflix. If you remember what we were kind of late comers to this show, we didn't really pay attention to it until it came on Netflix, even though it existed for two seasons elsewhere on YouTube Red. But we've been pretty devoted fans. The last time we talked about this show, or the last time there was a season, was the end of 2022, so it's been a while. And here we are, and we have 15 episodes with what we think is the final season, it's broken up to thirds. Brad, you finished it first, and you were kind of the original advocate. You watched this before I did, and it convinced me to watch it. So what did you think about this part of season six? I'm not the biggest fan of breaking them into three parts. It's good five episodes, I mean, they're all right. It's getting to be formulaic. They have enough personality to carry it. It's just at times you're just like, ah, you see it coming from a mile away. I think the returning cast is picked up right where they left off the prior season. They're good. Martin Cove is a priest, so he's amazing in this. Well, we're having the entire series, you know, season five, and we're basically Cobra Kai, or at least like the Jai Lord section and Miyagi Do, you know, they're all one relatively big happy family. Terry Silver, the disciple of Cobra Kai, one of the proteges of Kreese is in jail and Cove is arrested, but is on the run. So he retreats back to Korea to kind of like rebuild his empire for this big karate tournament that they're building to. The Sakai Takai, which is a mouthful. The music is always, I thoroughly enjoy it. It's amazing music. And what's your thoughts? I thought that it kind of wrapped up nicely in season five. I think partially that was because maybe they didn't think they were going to get a season six or a movie or continue the series past that. I was a little bit happy that they didn't decide to kind of like blow things up and restart the status quo, meaning that, again, you know, we ended season five with everyone pretty much in harmony and like to immediately undo that stuff because that's what we have to do. One of the major complaints about the series overall is that, you know, like you can guarantee every season that characters who have beef with each other, you know, we'll give an example of, you know, Tory and I think what's the daughter, what's Luce's daughter, Sam. Sam. Yeah. You know, they've had a fraught relationship. They've been enemies. They've been semi-friends. They've been enemies. They've been friends. And it seems like once a season that comes up and, you know, they give you a head fake that, oh, it's going to be like that again, but they're relatively friendly. The three-part thing, I kind of agree with Brad, especially since we're just so used to the whole season dropping at once. It's good. I don't think I'm happy and sad that this is probably should be the end. You know, it was revelation when it was restarted. I think it's probably, you can point as one of the franchises that kind of restarted like, oh, let's dig back in a series that we haven't thought about in a long time and it was successful with it, and they've managed to get, you know, six seasons out of it, and that's great, but, you know, everything should end sometime eventually. Basically, if you're a fan of the, if you've watched every single season, it's probably a good watch. They haven't jumped the shark necessarily, but, you know, you can just feel like it's getting a little long in the tooth. All right. Why don't we go ahead and wrap it up. Part two comes out on November 15th. It looks like part three, sometime in 2025, and I think that's going to be the bridge to the movie. We don't know about that. The movie is slated for at the moment, May 30th. Yeah. So, so as of this episode, August 2024, it's supposed to maybe come out May 30th, 2025. Oh, yeah. Okay. We'll wrap this episode up.
