We've made it to Wednesday. That means they were halfway through the week, the weekend. Well, it's not that far off. We do appreciate your joining us here on the radio. I'm Eric Carpenter, and this is KCVL, KC-RK. Back on July 31st, Department of Fish and Wildlife Director Kelly Susuand authorized the lethal removal of one adult wolf from the Dominion wolf pack in response to repeated depredations of cattle in Stevens County. We get an update on the lethal removal of the pack, the one wolf that was done on Tuesday. And it is this week's wildlife question of the week. Hi, I'm Stacy Lehman with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. At WDFW, we get a lot of questions from the public. One we've heard recently is, we're hearing about depredations by wolves on livestock in Northeast Washington. What is being done about that? WDFW will consider lethal, removing a wolf or wolf from a certain criteria or met. Under the wolf livestock interaction protocol, the department may consider lethal removal when there have been at least three documented depredation events within a 30-day rolling window of time, or at least four depredation events within a 10-month rolling window of time. In addition, there's some other considerations before WDFW's director will approve lethal removal. That includes that affected livestock producers have to show that they've tried non-lethal methods of preventing attacks on domestic animals. And WDFW wildlife staff that work in the area where the depredations are taking place have to agree that attacks will continue. It will measures aren't attempted. There are currently two wolf packs in Northeast Washington that have reached the threshold for lethal removal at this time, the lead point pack and the Dominion pack. The department has documented a total of 18 depredations in the Dominion pack territory, including five mortalities and 13 injuries, and that since July 19th of 2024. WDFW's director authorized lethal removal in the Dominion pack on July 31st, up to one adult wolf. On August 13th, staff legally removed an adult male wolf from the pack territory. With the removal of that wolf, the operation is now complete. The lead point pack has three confirmed and one probable wolf depredation events in the pack territory, resulting in two dead and two injured livestock since June 28th of 2024. WDFW's director approved lethal removal on August 12th of one to two wolves from this pack territory. Lethal removal efforts in this territory are ongoing currently. For more information on wolf management in Washington and when lethal removal can be authorized, go to wdfw.wa.gov/wolves. We're just coming off of a primary election where we had so many people running for governor on that ballot. It was really hard to keep track of all of them. Well, we have the general election coming up in November. Not only will there be the democratic candidate for president, there will be the Republican candidate for president, but there will also be nine additional nominations by minor parties and independent candidates on the Washington State ballot. Yes, there are a total of 11 pairs of nominees for president and vice president that will be on your November general election ballot. The Washington State Secretary of State making the announcement yesterday says, "Who's going to be on that general election ballot?" The minor parties, what they have to do is get 1,000 signatures from registered Washington voters who have not signed another party's nominating petition. Well, if they get 1,000 signatures, they qualify for the general election. The voters must also attend a state convention held in support of the party or the candidate. The conventions can only be during specific periods, the first Saturday in May to the last Saturday in July. So every election is a chance for every Washingtonian's voice to be heard. The Secretary of State, Steve Hobbs, says he encourages all voters to use the state's comprehensive system of trustworthy resources to participate in this election. So what do we have coming up? This is November 5th's general election ballot. We have the We the People Party, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. running for president there. The Green Party, Jill Stein running for president, socialism and liberation party, Claudia de la Cruz, the socialist workers party, Rachel Fruit running for president, the socialist equality party, Joseph Kishor is running for president, the libertarian party, Chase Oliver, the cascade party, Chris Nova Slick running for president and the justice for all party, Cornell West, and the 9th, the independent candidate, Shiba Adore, ballots, they're going to be mailed out to registered voters statewide, October 18th. And the ballot order for presidential candidates begins with the two major political parties listed in order of the most votes received in Washington's last presidential election. The other candidates will follow in their order of qualification. When your vehicle is involved in an accident, you want collision repair performed by highly trained experts. Well, my summer on into fall adventure has begun. And here over the next eight weeks, we're going to be talking about a lot of different locales. And that is because I have begun eight weeks of going to a variety of different countries and a variety of different locations to take a look at more of the world. And we're going to pass along that information. Things for this trip are starting just out of Rome. Actually, flying in from Chicago to the Rome airport, I did not go early. I have been to Rome three times in the past, been to the Vatican twice and have spent several days there and just opted not to spend any more time in Rome itself. What I am doing is getting on a cruise that is starting just out of Rome. When you fly into the Rome airport, if you want to see Rome, come in a couple days early, spend some time in Rome. If you're going to be cruising out of Rome, it's about an hour 20 an hour 30 from Rome, where the cruise ships port. Right now, there are four cruise ships in port. This is my first time on the Norwegian escape. A very large ship, all in all, of some 7,500 people on this ship. And it is very much a full floating city. And that's going to take a little getting used to because it is huge. We'll talk a little bit about that. Once I get acquainted with even where things are in that, I did take a look. It has an absolutely huge casino, an absolutely huge auditorium. And apparently some real top class evening performances. So we're just getting ready to sail from Rome. We've got quite a number of stops in the first week. And then I'll be taking the train up to Amsterdam to get on the next portion of the eight weeks of cruising. So we'll be talking about a lot of those things. So it is just out of Rome. I'm aboard the escape. And we'll be departing late in the evening and making a short trip, taking some tours once we get underway. We'll keep you up to date there. The one thing that I can say over the past year being on the Princess Cruise Line, Holland America several times, Carnival was the most recent. They all have had excellent Internet service using Star Lake. I think this is a new boat. This is the biggest boat that Norwegian has. But their Internet is like in the Stone Age. I talked with them about it. We have got things working now. It took a lot of workarounds in that. But yeah, if you are planning on doing some vacationing and you need to deal with the Internet, you probably want to think twice whether you want to use Norwegian Cruise Lines or not. They have not stepped up. They are not at the level that Carnival, Holland America or Princess are at. They are using Star Link. But their internal systems just aren't up to snuff for a lot of people having problems with the Internet. Mine were a little different than the normal people because of how we do things, how I need access back to Colville on a steady basis. So tomorrow we're going to be talking some about the tours and that. Huge airport at Rome. It's a few miles out from the airport. Train service, excellent. That's what I've always been in and out of Rome on the trains. This is my first time leaving Rome on a cruise. So probably not the best place to do coming or going on a cruise because of the distance from Rome itself. But if you want to see Rome and you want to cruise, it is available. So I hope you enjoy the next eight weeks. Most days we'll have updates of a variety of things from Europe, Scandinavia, and come first part of October. We'll wrap things up with the pyramids in Egypt. So that's all coming up. Hope you enjoy it. Need more water at your rural property? One of the best ways may be a reservoir system from Fogle Pump and Supply. A reservoir will give you a larger volume of available water when you need it and it replenishes itself during low demand times. Simple as that. Talk to the folks at Fogle's about a reservoir system for your property. Fogle Pump and Supply, the water professionals. Man alive, the Seattle Mariners. They sweep the New York Mets. Then they get a day off. They head to Detroit. Oh, it was not a good game yesterday. Kerry Carpenter, Homer, twice in his return from a back injury. The Detroit Tigers routed the Mariners 15 to 1 yesterday. It just wasn't going good. Right from the get-go, the Detroit Tigers getting their first run right off the bat in the first inning. Maybe things can get righted today. Right-handed pitcher Brian Wu going to be on the mound, the second game of the series. A game and a half behind Houston now for the Mariners. Right now you cannot go into a losing situation. Houston's been winning. The Mariners need to keep up. The other problem, if Seattle gets behind Houston for the first place finish in the American League West, things aren't looking all that good for the wild card. Other teams are having some good winning streaks and even though Seattle has put together some winning streaks, it just may not be enough. They've got to keep the winds going because right now the Mariners have dropped one and a half back from Houston. The rest of the American League West, well not too good. Texas nine and a half games back. Los Angeles 12 and a half games back. Oakland's 13 and a half back. But the Mariners need a win today. See if Brian Wu can get that win. We want to talk a little bit about how some other sports related matters and that has to do with betting on sports. The problem is, should we be betting on the Little League World Series? The Wagerine has been growing and growing. The bat online, it's a privately held international online gambling company. They have announced the 38 games in the Little League World Series will be available to gamble on through their sports book, including the team from Puyallup that has made the Little League World Series. They are representing the Northwest section of the U.S. This is going to be the fourth year that bet online has made the Little League World Series available to gamble on. Movata is also offering wagers on the event. Well that's stirring up a little bit of controversy because some of the big names in sports betting say this just isn't right. So we'll see what develops there or if it grows much. But the odds makers, they basically research, they watch the team's play, they collect the information just like they do any other sport and then put the odds on the Little League World Series. So far the Puget Sound region just starting to get some attention from the betters. They say really some of the other Florida and Texas teams just traditionally have been strong. So we'll kind of keep an eye on that and see if it develops. Right now it's just offshore gambling. You can't go down to the local place and put a bet on the Little League World Series. The draft kings, they are one of the big opponents of betting on the Little League World Series. Well they don't make a market in it. So draft kings is not offering sports wagering on the Little League games. But the Little League World Series, they're still trying to raise more money. They need more money for the Puyallup team but getting ready for their World Series Little League appearance.
