I'm gonna ask you some questions. I want to know the layman football guy. That's me This year is gonna be different. I'm a big 10 guy now, Reese. I would Well, my whole life. I'm a big 10 guy. I don't know what that's like, you know, Aaron My little brother. I don't know cuz he's gonna he's way more into it than I as we've talked on on previous shows So it's gonna affect him a little bit more, but what do I need to know about my new conference? I? Who adjust to whom the teams coming in SC or again particularly and I think even Washington with all the turnover You know, they tend to play a little bit more of a wide open style not that they're not physical, but they are there will be some historical venues that people will venture into that perhaps they weren't really locked in on of what a great Atmosphere it can be in places like places like Iowa. I think those people know that Wisconsin's great I think even even a place like going to Michigan State You know, you would think of great for basketball also if they're good Can be really good and intense for football. There are a lot of great environments there They value their trophies. There are more trophy games and the big 10 then any other conference old school trophy, you know, they're a little brown jug and Floyd of Rosedale, which you know used to be a real pig now it's just a just a trophy there, you know, there are wooden turtles and You know, all kinds of things like that. So there's a lot of history and nostalgia in the big 10 as it as it pertains to on the field I the one thing I think that is true of the big 10 really true of all conferences is There there are the elite and everyone else and so the question for the four new teams coming in Which side of that dividing line will you be on? initially and ultimately You know, obviously I think Oregon's going to be on for this year and and I would imagine going forward They will be on the elite side USC would figure to be on the elite side You know, we don't know what we're getting from them this year. There are a lot of changes there I watched their spring game back the other day and because I actually am calling their first game against LSU and Las Vegas So I was I've watched some you know some practice tape and watch their spring game so I think that SC even if maybe they aren't a playoff team this year will still be on that elite dividing line and You know, I think just how they manage the you know The travel which will be easier and football than other sports, but how they manage the Unfamiliarity of opponents and things like that will will be will be key, but it's look. It's the way of the world Brett I don't know that it's I don't know if it's great From a traditionalist standpoint for all of us But it's coming and it's going to continue to be that way that there's a I mentioned the dividing line within the big 10 There's a dividing line with a big 10 in the SEC and everyone else now Both financially and recruiting it's not to say that you know big 12 in the ACC You don't have great teams and have great players that go there But there are more that go the other places and there is more money, you know at you know at Michigan or Ohio State then there is an NC State and you know, so that's just the way it is and so I think making sure that you stay on the right side of that dividing line wherever it is whether it's financially or competitively or recruiting Schematically all of those things will be important. I think that see will be on the right side of it and You know, I think the question is where where will you see a layfall? You know ultimately, you know, will they you know, will they be able to get on the right side of it and sort of get going into you know Not that they haven't been good but sort of get out of this stagnation that they've had you know The last few years of being pretty good, and you know, we'll yeah It's not hey, how's UCLA? Oh, they're great or how's UCLA they stink now? It's just kind of other UCLA, you know, yeah, and the weird thing for me is you're gonna be playing Michigan But it's not gonna be at the Rose Bowl where where it's oh, you know, yeah essay in the past ever playing Michigan It's a big it's a big day and a lot on the line What do you think's gonna happen to the old Pac-12 the Washington State Oregon State? Man, there's so much going on. What's what's your take on that? I think ultimately and I don't know what it'll be called I think ultimately they will fold together with the Mountain West whether that's in its entirety or You know a group of them, you know form a new Pac whatever the number is going to be That's where I think they are I feel I feel badly for them because Washington State still remains my favorite game day and it is mostly because Of the crusade that their fan base their alumni base went on to get college game day to come there They sent old Crimson the flag to every show and they continued to do so for 15 years Before we made it to the police and it was cathartic and a celebration for them it remains I think because of that it remains my favorite show Oregon State has been Really really good, you know in the shadow of Oregon and it's you know It's unfortunate that they got left by the wayside and I think that their best opportunity is to Instead of wallowing in this misfortune which and you know probably you don't have to stretch very far to say it was unfair At least to them to look at it in a different way because Oregon State and Washington State if they you know if they do fold into some type of conference with the Mountain West now I Would argue it has a much clearer path and a much more realistic chance of finding their way into the playoff Now there have been years certainly in the in the old Pac-12 where Wazoo and to be you know We're in contention for sure and they've been really good But on on a year-in-year out bases you didn't expect Washington State Oregon State to be competing with USC Oregon you know lately Washington and You know threatening to make it into the Rose Bowl or the college football playoff In another league where the best champion from one of those leagues is guaranteed a spot one of the 12 That's a clearer path in my judgment. Is it what they wanted? Does it necessarily solve all of their financial woes? Of course not But I do think from a competitive standpoint that they if they find a way to embrace some of those advantages it can be good for them Take your business further with a smart and flexible American Express business gold card It offers flexible spending capacity that adapts to your business You can also earn up to three hundred and ninety five dollars in annual statement credits on eligible purchases at select business merchants That's the powerful backing of American Express Terms apply learn more at American Express comm slash business gold card Bob Boone his Stanford Cardinal Going to the ACC how stable is the ACC and Reece Davis, can I buy a Stanford ACC shirt for dad or should I hold off I Think I think you can Brett I mean a lot of that will be decided by the courts with the whole grant of rights thing and you know Clemson and Florida State exploring their options but I Would say moderately stable, you know Obviously this could be you know the thread could be pulled and it could come apart, you know if a Court decision that stands up goes the way of the teams that would like to explore their options But I think it's moderately stable right now as they try to look at different ways Distributing revenue based on how you perform You know, I mean well SMU is coming in with Stanford and Calvin They're not getting anything, you know for a while They you know pretty rich alumni base. They've had some people step up to to fill that void financially, so I think some of those things might appease some of the problems But you know there are those who believe that you know in the next few years that a lot of this will will change and it's The question is whether the ACC can come up with a plan and a formula that will appease those members who feel as if They're being put it far too great a competitive disadvantage because the revenue stream is not what it is in the SEC in the Big 10 Man, there's a lot going on. Okay. Tell me I think I got these right Texas in Oklahoma from the Big 12 to the SEC AC or Arizona a state Colorado Utah they go from the Pac 12 To the Big 12 Stanford and Cal Pac 12 to the ACC SC UCLA Washington, Oregon Pac 12 to the Big 10. Okay. I think I got that right You did who's gonna have the softest landing? Who's gonna have how would I put this who's gonna have the rudest awakening? For for this year or long-term We're gonna go long-term long-term. Okay, you see LA You know because of some of the state of California Political things they have to deal with with the Cal system and you know, I've read some I've forgotten the details but something there they've got to pay some type of Basically, it sounds like alimony almost to Cal for you know leaving and breaking these things up I think I have that right, but I think just because of the stagnation that we talked about I think long-term they have the biggest challenge and Doesn't mean they can't win this year doesn't mean they can't win in the future But I think they would be the one that I think everybody else is sort of a quip to go into the Big 10 and have success and Texas and Oklahoma are certainly equipped to go into the SEC and have success and The teams that you mentioned going to the Big 12. I mean many believe Utah is already the favorite in the Big 12 People talk about the Big 12 this year and they say it's deep. I Disagree with that. I think it's wide and what I mean by that is I don't see teams in the Big 12 That have these great ceilings where I expect them to be in the national semifinals in a national championship game But I also don't see very many if any teams that have this awful floor where they're terrible teams. They're all They all have the potential to be pretty good to really good And so that's going to create a real competitive environment and the teams you mentioned Arizona States a little bit Probably behind on its you know on its curve toward contention or competitive Balance they're probably a little bit behind right now is Kenny Dillingham tries to get that program underway in his second year But Utah is probably the favorite Arizona has in my judgment the best past catch proven past catch combination in the country coming back Noa Fafita and tenorilla McMillan and then Colorado has the you know has the dynamic presence of Deont Sanders and you know First round a first round pick probably according to most draft experts at quarterback and should-doers Sanders and maybe Maybe the most complete player in the country and Travis Hunter who plays both ways and plays corner back and wide receiver both exceptionally well so those teams all have some things going for them and you know even you look at the different different schedules this year in terms of immediate awakenings and Oklahoma for instance in the SEC has just a brutal schedule and Texas relatively speaking You know, maybe got a little easier time of it Texas does have Georgia, but they have them at home You know, I think Texas memory certainly miss Alabama. I think they miss LSU They think they miss they miss Ole Miss. I'm gonna look right here believe they do So yeah, they they miss Ole Miss also who I think is going to be really Really good this year and they miss Missouri who finished in the top 10 last year So Texas Texas hit a little bit of an easier landing for the initial year But I think both Texas and Oklahoma Are are prepared to do well, but to give you an example. I mentioned those teams of Texas misses Oklahoma plays They play at Ole Miss. They play at Missouri. They play at LSU and they have Alabama at home You know, so those some of those games that Texas is missing not only is Oklahoma have to play them Oklahoma is playing them on the road now that'll balance out over you know over other seasons But that's something else. I think fans will have to get used to in these huge conferences now It's not anybody's trying to give anybody a break or anything like that when you're dealing in big 10s case with 18 teams Can't play everybody, you know, so you're going to you're going to have some schedules at fall sometimes and you miss a bunch of people like Rutgers misses everybody that you view as a contender this year and therefore Rutgers might find itself in the mix late in the season because They're playing more teams like them instead of having to deal with Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon and teams of that All-star, closer, Ken Lee Janssen, we have a question.
