Individual results may vary. Hi, guys. I'm Adam Wilborn from What Culture. He's Michael Hanford from What Culture. I don't know what you're thinking. Why is the Smackdown fist in the background? Well, it's something old. It's something I've borrowed from WWE. And of course, it's something blue because it was from Smackdown. The only thing we're missing is something new because this list is 10 wrestlers dying for something new, Michael Hanford. That's where that's there. Exactly. So without further ado, let's get into it. It's 10 Brody King. Brody King, of course, has had some great times in AEW as a part of the House of Black. And we've literally just seen them seemingly reunite to go after the trio's titles. But it always feels like he's hitting a ceiling and I feel like he can go further because, like, he's been a monster in singles matches. Yeah. There was a, I felt like a divide up in a little while ago, didn't it, between Brody King and Julia Hart on one side. And Michael had Black and Buddy Matthews on the other. Not just divided up by speculation on which side we're only about to do. Yes. And Brody King at the moment, I think, is one of those wrestlers that fits perfectly in the state of Louisiana. Absolutely. It fits perfectly in the trio he's in. But to your point, and if you consider matches against the likes of Derby, I don't know. You could say that about every wrestler ever just shows glimpses of something bigger, something more monumental. Singles titles. A danger to the single division the likes of which they typically don't worry about because he's been locked in trio's matches. I don't know if there's going to be any change coming soon. It appears as if for now the House of Black will remain in trio's action. I'm sure Brody King is buzzing to be part of something that is over and is a big time act. But yeah, it does sort of feel like at some point or another. If this was a tag team rather than trios, you'd already be thinking right time to cut the corn. It feels different when we talk about it. Yeah, plus with the amount of singles titles that AW has, your TNT, international continental, et cetera. It feels like he's due a singles title win. Yeah. Because yeah, he's been, he's been greatest part of a group, but I mean, just look at him. You don't want to go up against that, do you? Jesus. Continental Classic last year was a moment coming down for him. Yes. Maybe you could have a second one in 2024. Moving on to Austin Theory. Yeah, we always have to move on to Austin Theory. He's, he's dying for something new like I was at a girls allowed gig. The man has tried and failed with a number of different characters at this point. Cursed perhaps by being like joined at the hip with Vince McMahon. Yeah. The tail end of his time with WWE Full Stop. It appears as though they're going to want to babyface him. The air time down split looks like it's going to be Austin Theory coming out on one side and Grace and Waller coming out as the heel on the other side. He's a better heel, Grace and Waller than Austin Theory in my opinion. He's a better Austin Theory than Austin Theory in some people's opinions, mine included. But Austin Theory, if nothing else, has kind of done what was always supposedly required for the WWE Superstar, which is to endure. To survive some of the creative that maybe others would flail under to be able to get things over that maybe others wouldn't. He remains a part of the roster when it looked initially in the early part of the Triple H era like he was going to be persona non-grata. We all remember those failed cash and attempts and how stupid he looked like failing at them. And yet, he's still cashing in the US style, which was being defended in open challenges. Just the worst. Just a series of low ebbs that he's managed to come back from. And do it to be historically like that resilience. Maybe this time when the split does happen, it's going to be that reward that he probably feels at this point like he's old. It seems a long shot to get an Austin Theory babyface turned correct. But at the end of the day, they've just baby-faced Roman Reigns. It's true, yeah. Which is one of the hardest turns. The end of like a 10-year project, basically, yeah. So I wouldn't rule it out. And I do think that boy's got talent and I think he could definitely see him doing something down the road. We'll be very interested to see what happens here after the 8th hand down under some lids. Right, the unholy union. Remember when they won the tag titles? Yeah, like as we record this, they are still tag team champions. And yet. Yeah, it feels inevitable that Bianca and Jade are going to regain those tag team titles. Of course, though, we just had the Blair Davenport addition to all this. She's the reason why they retained the tag titles on the Go Home episode of SmackDown ahead of SummerSlam. Like, very biased because the former Kaylee Ray was phenomenal in our WCPW company. And I do like them as a team. They should just be allowed to do more stuff. It's like they won the titles and then disappeared almost. They did occasional run-ins and they did a title defense, of course, on NXT. They're both supremely talented. And I don't know, maybe this new team that I'm dubbing the Blair Witch Project with Blair Davenport. It's like a good one, I give them that. Could be their new lease of life that they need because it's certainly the case of, well, it was a lovely gesture to give them that tag title win, of course. And then it felt like, as with quite a few title wins recently, they do the title win and you go, "Right, what now?" And don't we do a job team to have a plan for them? Yeah, it is a lower-key booking formula to Triple H that's starting to appear there. I think Tony Khan has been guilty of as well, like the chase for the title or that. It's something that you just can't wait to see and you can't wait to experience the moment. This one was more sentimental than some, but the point remains the same. Once they've got the belts, what do you do with them? Triple H particularly has this problem in the women's division, and there'll be more on that, I guess, later on in its list in a big way. But yeah, I suppose, like, for the only other union at this point, it's not just about retaining the tag belts or even staying as a tag team, but I think what appears to be an attempt by WWE to put together a series of trails. Yeah, like the Blair Witch Project, as beautifully named by you, are one of several groups of three across Raw, SmackDown and NXT that are coming together. And you wonder if, when we say that they're dying for something new, that includes a new kind of way of wrestling. I couldn't see WWE initiating a trails division like a UW have done for the men's division, but there are a lot of women that Triple H has not really shown a great deal of creative care and investment in. If you can just bond the people into threes and make them help through heads, that might be an easy route for them to get some new people over. Yeah, they've tried out, obviously, the women's North American title in NXT, so they're not against adding new titles, whether it be a main role. I assume it would be a main roster thing with an occasional appearances from, yeah, Trio's from NXT, perhaps. But I'd like to see something like that for them because, yeah, it feels like they are not long for remaining as tag team champions. Yeah. Right. Final Testaments. The final Testaments will tell you to f off if you think they're rubbish, and we certainly love them here at What Culture, but it doesn't seem like the booking does. It looks yet again like Harry and Cross might be in for another swing and a miss, creating me. He's been locked in this battle with the New Day that appears to at least have opened a creative avenue for them. Yeah, but the door might have slammed shut in the final Testaments face. Honestly, Jones has debuted on Raw. Xavier Woods doesn't look as happy about that as Kofi Kingston. It feels like that is going to be a story within the New Day, rather than really kind of keeping the final Testaments busy. Caring Cross, I'm sure, will claim that he was responsible for the breakdown of friendship. He loves claiming victories of a people that seem to have gone into greater success in a dozen. That's not necessarily his fault. I think Caring Cross has shown real flair of late as a group of this stable. Paul Allen is funny with his one mega glove and his wicked sneer, AOP or AOP. But yeah, the Caring Cross, the Scarlet Act, I think, continue to try in the face of a bit of lack of emotional investment from the creative team and you from the fans. And they're fairly low down that pecking order. If you're talking about major heel stables, you've got Bloodline 2.0. You've got the new version of the Judgment Day now. They're not top of any ones. You've got the Wyatt 6. I know they're not heels. But in terms of major stables, they're fairly low down the pecking order. And this is a guy who, when he was in NXT under Triple H, was the guy for a while. Yeah, I think Caring Cross is aware of that exact situation you described. And trying to talk his way out of it. You think about the sort of thing that Caring Cross did when he was first getting over in NXT. It was all about kiddi-hip, shein and darkness and all that kind of thing. Now the Wyatt 6 have got that market cornered and as baby faces. So I think he's tried to steer this into a more realistic direction. He's tried to be funny. We've enjoyed pack a rear Caring Cross. There's something about him, honey. There is something just to Jesse, you've had sure impression. No, but I would like to have a bit more of that. There is something to this, but I think Caring Cross is trying to work out that just as much as WWE are with the final testament. Kenosuke to Keshta. I've had a great run in the G1 right now. This was nearly a year ago now. Yeah. What we're looking at? Yeah, he won this short and then he beat Kenny Omega the following week. And have a seven-day run for to Keshta. And then what? It's so frustrating. I know so many people are saying this about to Keshta. Yeah. He felt at that moment like, okay. And I've seen people say like, it's very different and it's very sort of basic to be like, "Oh, you didn't need Kenny Omega. You didn't need, sorry, because you're a character. You've got Kenosuke to Keshta." And that's not very fair whatsoever. But such potential in this guy and not someone you'd hang around with. No, increasingly feeling like an uncrowned A.W. champion. Yeah. A guy that like year on year, the longer he stays with a company, he isn't winning the belt. The more it looks like he's staying on A.W.'s booking more than anything that he can do to prove himself. He's having this great and critically acclaimed G1 run. So it's not like he hasn't had a fantastic summer. It's not like he hasn't built his profile and kind of not reminded people who he was, but just kept himself at the top of conversations. Even if those conversations haven't been happening within A.W.'s walls. I think it would be interesting to see if he comes back in the sort of aftermath of the G1. I would amark him as a favorite for the continental classic. Yeah. It's funny you mention Okada. I expect Okada still have that title going into 2025. You wonder if they get Keshta back over as a babyface to try and potentially win that belt or if it's just another step towards him getting the A to B title. Yeah. Fans get behind him, wouldn't they? I know he was great at chucking Toby Allen around. And again, who isn't? But in terms of everybody, when we talk about people that are dying for something new, I think the fans are as much as to cash them, like insist upon him being strapped up in 2025. Especially somewhere in A.W. where yes, he's not going to be cutting promos, but he doesn't necessarily need to. He does, he's an old cliche, but he does do his talking in the ring. Like, he just kicks A.S. Maybe the best example of one of the great reasons A.W. has existed in all these last five years is for bringing necessarily wrestlers to mainstream attention unless you're in the weeds you might not be aware of and then immediately just bursting at a life on television. He's one of the best that they have ever kind of revealed to the wider wrestling audience. And I think now that wider wrestling audience wants something back and forth. Absolutely. Ryan Reynolds here for, I guess, my hundredth mint commercial. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Honestly, when I started this, I thought I'd only have to do like four of these. I mean, it's unlimited to premium wireless for $15 a month. Braun Strowman was a lot of fun in a tag team with Ricochet. Oh, yeah. He was great chasing the bulk of the Judgment Day around. But what is the permanent role for Braun Strowman in 2024? I still think that's kind of a conundrum that Triple H hasn't quite solved. I'm not so sure if the lightweight booking has removed him ever being considered a world champion. And I say I'm not so sure because I'm really not so sure. I think if you put a gun thing that was world champion up against a Braun Strowman, he would only be received as the challenger of the week rather than a series contender. But they've had great matches in the past, so I want to see it. I want to see Braun at least have a run at Gunther. Could Braun be a scalp for someone like a Braun Brit? That's bad to mention that, yeah. I think they're kind of a champion. But the problem is we talk about challenges and we talk about scalps, and we really then talk about the top guy. And do we ever really fully see if Braun could be a top guy or not? I know the injuries of caught up with Braun Strowman and it's not 2016 anymore. It's not even 2017 anymore when he was scoring more pins over Roman Reigns than anybody else. It's hard to imagine an era where this babyface Roman Reigns will be willing to put over Braun Strowman quite as much as the 2017 one did. So I would imagine Braun is still thinking, oh, I can go higher and push up against that glass ceiling, but it might have lowered a bit too much. Yeah, I don't know whether it's if it's too lazy to just say, putting in another fun tag team with a high flyer because it works so well, like you said, with Ricochet. But yeah, I want to see Gunther versus Braun Strowman. And that would be amazing. But then I also don't think that Braun should be the guy to dethrone Gunther. And then you go, okay, so you do that for a month or a couple of months, whatever. What then? So maybe he's a temporary measure. You do that whilst you're figuring out whether you're turning him heel or I don't know. But yeah, you look across both brands as well and it's like you've got Gunther at the top. You've got Drew Seth Punk, obviously all lining up to eventually go up against him one would assume. And then over on SmackDown, Cody going anywhere. Roman Reigns just come back. You've got the whole issues with the bloodline and all that going on. So another person on SmackDown we're going to get to, who could be another title challenger in due course as well. I don't know what you do, but I hope he gets to do something because, yeah, whenever he gets seen in person, it's amazing. I mean, we saw him at the... Wrestlecom, he's a big boy. Will he be looking ambiously on the Wyatt at the moment and wondering if he's down the line? Yeah. I'd be sure he'd have to change the branding to make it the way it's said. But like, would there be a spot for him? Should there be somebody that goes out injured or something like that? He'd been rowing as a tactic. This is it. Like he's got arguably just as much lore as anybody else that's attached to that group. So I wonder if he's kind of keeping an eye on that just in case there's ever a space that opens up in that group for him. Moving on, here's the man I just alluded to. Rade El Edelow, he sort of had a very stop-start return to WWE. Very much hit a glass ceiling under Vince. It was US title and that's your level, basically, aside from obviously NXT title reigns under Triple H. But he's doing stuff with Mellow. Like he's having really fun matches that he's winning for the most part. But I could easily see him as a sort of B-level challenger to Cody Rhodes for the title because, well, we know what fire they can create from that time in AWU. Indeed. Yeah, Andrade is probably one of the, in terms of like, rest of the moment in WWE, especially. I think he's one of the most perceptions, reality guys that they've got. I think if Andrade feels creatively inspired, then you will see that reflected in the work. Similarly, if he feels like he's being put on the back burner a little bit, you will maybe not be encouraged to care that much. I think that might be his tactical approach. I think that you can argue how well that works. But I think when Andrade is a background character, he allows himself to remain one. And then sometimes you forget about him as a result and then it becomes the usual conversation of don't sleep on Andrade, because he'll have two or three great matches in a row. As is kind of happening with Carmel O'Hears at the moment, these matches are getting revered and it feels like it's helping Carmel O'Hears at the first proper. Is it, yeah, first program from really? Yeah. So he came up to SmackDown. So we'll see how that goes. And that's kind of the blessing in the Curse of Triple H is, shall we say, pointed stablemaking. Often like wrestlers just getting cloped together that make it easier, I think, for Triple H. Just be like, "Oh, yeah, let's go with them for a little bit." We know what's happening there. And you could argue for better or worse, Ran Andrade getting at least a WrestleMania match based on his affiliation with the LWA. I don't know. I think the jury is out for me. I don't know. I'd be interested to see if and when Charlotte Flair comes back. And how much will, like, whether or not they will want to be on screen together? Power couple. It's never something that's been used narratively because it's never been the opportunity. Obviously, he returned after she suffered a terrible injury. That might add a bit of, like, fire to it. I think you've been fantasy-bucking just getting the gang back together and doing him and Zelina Vega, which was kind of the hottest either ever were realistically under the WWE umbrella. So that might be an option for him as well. Jury's out for me. Yeah, they could use that storyline of Zelina coming in and going, "What are you doing here? You've been here for six months or whatever. What are we doing?" Yeah. And then you've got, let's go and rediscover the guy you were in NXT because, I don't know, I feel like he works better as a heel. The crowds are enjoying and watching him right now, so we're waiting to see, but yeah, easy to see him not immediately because you sense Cody's going to probably work with the likes of Kevin Owens, for example. Randy Orton. Randy Orton eventually. Lurking in the background, yeah. And then you've got the whole Survivor Series bloodline civil war that we've suggested he could be involved in, if necessary. But after that, yeah, definitely title challenge and potentially down the road. Or even just with an LA night now as United States champion, they could do that as well. It's not a utility by his ability. He's one of the most talented you could have, but he'll probably want more than that. Yes. Curry Sin. Right. Damage Kitarle have turned Babyface. And in theory, that should be great, right? Because you've got Curry Sin, Eoskai, and Dakota Kai. They're a traitor. Not the only one right now. There's a Blair Wish Project, I believe all of us might be. No, like, in that group now you have three natural Babyfaces that have kind of all, for various reasons, been required to play heels. I think Eoskai has done a great job at Dakota Kai, at point, strictly. Yeah. But Curry Sin, I think, has been forced in. She was brought in back as a part of Damage Kitarle as a way to force Bailey out of the group. But now, like, I don't know. I think it remains to be seen how well we're going to go over as Babyfaces, but I think it's absolutely worth trying to do that. Because some of their offense, I think he's just naturally suited to generating pops and generating reactions. So what is the ceiling for Curry Sin at this point? Like, who didn't love the Sky Pirates, for example? So if it's just her and Eos dropping back into the tag division when Damage Kitarle is all said and done, probably no bad thing. But Curry Sin, for a short while, I think was kind of going to be NXT's Jewel in the Crown. It was a relatively short run as NXT Champion, but that feud with Shayna Baszler, like, put them both over. Shayna has an absolute killer, and Curry Sin over is maybe one of the guttiest Babyfaces that NXT had had up to that point. And a lot of that, for Curry's point of view, at least feels like it's never really been explored on the main roster. She's of course, tagging with Asuka for a while. She's kind of played a loose approximation of the same character over and over again. Triple H likes it, obviously, Curry Sin is able to perform it. But I think there's a top Babyface in wait in Curry Sin at the top, singles Babyface in wait in her size. And her stature is a benefit. Like, imagine if you did have a heel Bianca Balaire, for example, or in the split between Bianca and Jade, one of them working heel, and then having Curry Sin as a small Babyface to work underneath. Hittinghine Saiyan elbow to win the title or something. Exactly, yeah, there is a proper sustained singles Babyface push in Curry Sin that they might not get to now, but she's young enough, and I think she's hopefully injury-free enough to make it a possibility. Currently feuding with, was it Sidwick who dubbed them the Ministry of Starkness? Another trio. Sonja and Shayna, and yeah, and Zoe Stark. I think based on what Pat McPhee was saying, they're going to go with the shooters, which will alienate and piss off a bunch of people. I'm a learning tree! Let's talk Chris Jericho. Why? I mean, something you could just be going away, I suppose. What the hell is that? I think it's him as a group. Right, yeah. I'm not mistaken. Nothing might be bad in summer, yeah? This is a group for a lot of... Yes, that's a pain maker group. A pain maker group, yeah. But, yeah, what do you think of this whole learning tree stable? Stinks. It absolutely stinks. I will not acknowledge the joke, it's funny. I don't think the cadence is amusing. I don't think the bit is any good. I will never and not forget how this bit came to life. They're like, "Oh, they hate me." Why is that? They're shut up, they're going to hate me. I'm going to give you a heat after the fact. We really like Big Bill and Branky, we should say that here. Branky is a boy popper for the ages when he's kind of the last one in the shot. Big Bill was class before he arrived as part of the learning tree. So I have no worry that coming out of it, he'll be fine again. I think more it speaks volumes that Sammy Guevara, I mean, yes, it would have sort of just been again for you, Sammy, for his character, but also he didn't want to get tangled up in the roots of this tree. Chris Jericho has died for something new, only because it's an election year in America. Yeah, that's something new could be. I don't know, a six-month tour. A better family. A better paint up on Instagram when you upload new pictures. We all want new things. Yeah, it's weird because we always say this about him for years. He was the guy who knew just when to either make a change or even just go away for a while. Yeah. And yes, he was the main guy in aid. It'd be for quite some time. He was the person that casual wrestling fans in mind when I'd say AEW. They would say, "Oh, is that the one Chris Jericho to start off with?" Yeah. Now it just feels like... Especially when you follow basketball. Now it just feels like... How am I going to miss you if you'll never go away? It needs a root and branch review. Oh. Oh, there she is. Bailey, one of the greatest of all time, in my opinion. But it hasn't really looked like that in 2024. The baby face turn, we all wanted. The one we all rooted for was kind of half-baked in truth. Everything was decent on the road to WrestleMania without ever really being great. And then... Did you know Road to WrestleMania each? You almost forgot she was the one who won the Women's Royal Rumble. Yeah. She was kept off the posters. She was kind of... You know, featuring that big Las Vegas press conference, isn't she? Yeah. And ultimately the match with EO was great on the night. Oh, absolutely. And that's the thing with Bailey, right? Like, there's always a chance of the match being great on the night. There was nothing wrong with that thing at WrestleMania, was there? Well, it's funny you should say that, right? You see, because what we asked for as part of Bailey's baby face turn was a revival of maybe like the greatest theme music of all time. The re-emergence of the Bailey, but he's passed with little plasters on them from when she'd axed them all over the years earlier. And like we said, don't be weak and we have that. And they said, well, we could give you that. We could give you the worst theme we've ever unleashed on the world ever. What's the best thing about this theme is that it's six terrible things all in one with a bit of Egypt. Yeah. Because they do like Egypt as well. You know what? You know how Bailey just never shows up about Egypt. Well, we're finally going to have it as part of our entrance to WrestleMania. It's fit for her. She could have at least had a walk like an Egyptian. Yeah. That would have at least got the fans into it. Yeah. Thanks for Chef Rebel cooking up another triumph. But to be honest, Bloody Al, it's been a symptom of the problem rather than the problem, the theme. Yeah. She's not been very well booked. It doesn't feel like there's been any care taken with her. I was ecstatic when she won the title WrestleMania, but I was also the biggest proponent of Nijak should be for that title at some point. And who better to put Nijak's over as well, by the way? Oh, Bailey's always been the best at getting Nijak's over as she was yet again in another class match. So that's the point. Triple H is a pains to put her over constantly as being crucial to the women's division. It doesn't surprise me all that she's currently like the only awesome in standing in all of WWE, because I think she was always the bedrock of that fort anyway. She's a certain hall of famer. If you're Bailey, maybe you're not dying for something new, so much is just maybe looking to see how you can take the baby face run to the next level. And like maybe if you're Bailey, you don't want to throw it all back and this is just something that we're forecasting and projecting, aren't we? But I think she deserves better booking than what she's been given in 2025. Absolutely. Like in terms of it's weird to say you won the rumble, you won the title at WrestleMania, and here we are in August, and we're a bit like, what are we doing? Like low energy run. Yeah. In spite of the big moments, low energy run. It's a Cody, for example, perfect comparison, yeah, and it's night and day. There's something new I will say is not a heel turn. No. Do not need a heel Bailey. I said to you when we were talking about SummerSlam whether or not they were holding off on the return of either the theme or the Bailey Buddies or both when they felt that she needed that bit of bump because there was such a wave of support behind her from the rumble to WrestleMania and that carried on. Yeah, nothing really, there was no real landmark moments following WrestleMania. You were like, there you go. You know, we talk about like Damien Priest having a moment to hang his hat on as World Heavyweight Champion, and he got that as SummerSlam, if not, he's had it before. Yeah. I don't know if there's one of them for Bailey in 2024 outside of the title win. So I don't know whether she goes away for a bit and then comes back, or even if she just decides I'm going to be, I'm going to be the old version of Bailey to defeat Nijax. I don't know. But she just needs something, doesn't she? Because she's phenomenal, obviously, in between the ropes. Yeah, I will say what we've always kind of known about Bailey even from the outside is that everybody inside seems to love her. Yeah. Like she seems like she's a permanent supporter and backer of just about everybody that comes to the division. Somebody that has like experienced beyond her years and wants to be able to help like new wrestlers coming through and in other ways and don't forget to shake hands with a gay man. Clear, she actually wants to make WWE better for her place in it, and I think like she's odd. It's one of the reasons why Triple H won't let that put her over in the way that she does, that he does. And maybe long term, this was just a thank you run. Well, thank you/apology run for all the time. She wasn't given the support and the backing of the company for things like the pandemic. And she's going to want to move into something like a play coach role, like NXT. What's all the time like Bianca, they knew they were going to do stuff with Bianca for a while. Yeah. And they went, "Let's put you in a tag team." I would be very interested to see the conversation around Bayley, if and when contracts come up. Yeah. There are plenty of wrestlers we have discussed about potentially moving over, who have ultimately chose to resign with WWE. But considering certain other people that are over there, are would relish some speculation on Bayley's contract if and when that comes around. Well, let's make thoughts on that. And then all the wrestlers we've discussed, and here else you think is dying for something new in the comments section below. Don't forget to like, share, subscribe, follow us on X @ WhatCulture WWE.
