(upbeat music) - Today is Sunday, August 11th. And this is Cokesbury's Daily Bible Reading Plan. Today's scripture comes from Second Corinthians, chapter one, verses eight and nine. We think you ought to know, dear brothers and sisters, about the trouble we went through in the province of Asia. We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure. And we thought we would never live through it. In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead. Now let's apply it. Paul does not give details about his hardships in Asia, although his accounts of his three missionary journeys record many difficult trials he faced. He said that he and his companions felt that they were going to die and realized that they could do nothing to help themselves. They simply had to rely on God. Have you ever come to the end of your ability to save yourself and realized your need for God? Do you need him today? - Thank you for joining us for the Daily Bible Reading Podcast.
