I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief John Bickley. It's Friday, August 9th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update. New body cam footage from a Butler, Pennsylvania police officer was obtained by CNN. It shows that law enforcement officers identified Donald Trump's would-be assassin moments before he shot at the former president. Here's some of that dramatic footage. The officers were not able to stop the gunman before he shot at Trump hitting him in the ear. Another troubling part of the video shows some officers saying they told the Secret Service to secure the roof of the building from where Matthew Crooks took his shots. American sprinter Noah Lyles managed to clinch a second medal despite testing positive for COVID-19. Lyles decided to compete in Paris Thursday night in the 200-meter race despite feeling what he described as "really horrible" since Tuesday. He ended up placing third for a bronze medal after winning the gold in the 100-meter event earlier in the competition. The U.S. Olympic Committee supported his decision to race. Ukrainian troops continue to engage in a fierce battle with Russia in Russia's cursed region. The Aliwair reporter Tim Pearce has more. This marks Ukraine's largest incursion into Russia since the invasion began in 2022, with troops occupying villages and parts of a town. Vladimir Putin confirmed the cross-border attack, which has reportedly surprised Moscow. Unlike previous incursions led by anti-Putin militias, this operation reportedly includes around 1,000 elite Ukrainian troops equipped with U.S. and German armored vehicles and tanks. A commercial passenger plane carrying at least 60 people crashed today into a densely populated residential area outside of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Video shared on social media shows the plane tumbling from the sky and disappearing behind a treeline followed by an enormous plume of black smoke. Footage on the ground shows multiple homes were also destroyed. Emergency efforts are currently underway with the total death toll undetermined at this time. Samsung is recalling certain electric stoves due to fire hazards caused by accidental activation by pets. The Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that about 1.1 million units are affected, following multiple incidents, including a Colorado dog igniting a fire by jumping on the stove. Samsung will offer free knob locks or covers for slide-in electric ranges sold between 2013 and 2024. In that time, over 300 reports of accidental knob activation have led to approximately 250 fires, resulting in extensive property damage, injury, and even pet fatalities. And Costco is cracking down on non-member shoppers. In the coming months, the retail giant will begin scanning membership cards upon entry, and if the member does not have a photo on file, they may need to present a photo ID. Non-members will still be able to enter the store with members. Use your drive home updates this afternoon.
