(upbeat music) - I'm Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief John Bickley with Georgia Hal. It's Tuesday, August 6th. Then this is your Morning Wire afternoon update. - Kamala Harris has chosen Minnesota Governor Tim Walls as her running mate. Walls is a proponent of progressive policies in Minnesota, passing laws that allow abortion up until birth and transgender medical procedures for minors. The 60-year-old Walls is serving his second term as governor. He's known as a progressive who has restricted gun access and legalized recreational marijuana use. GOP vice presidential nominee JD Vance reacted to Harris' choice for VP. - It just highlights how radical Kamala Harris is. This is a person who listened to the Hamas wing of her own party and selecting a nominee. This is a guy who's proposed shipping more manufacturing jobs to China and has proposed defunding the police just as Kamala Harris does. They make an interesting tag team because of course Tim Walls allowed rioters to burn down Minneapolis in the summer of 2020. And then the few who got caught, Kamala Harris helped bail them out of jail. - A second assassination attempt on former President Trump was foiled by law enforcement. Daily Wire senior editor Cabot Phillips has the details on the plot. The Justice Department has charged Pakistani national Asif Merchant with plotting to assassinate Donald Trump and other U.S. officials. Merchant allegedly traveled to New York City in late August to early September to coordinate with the hitman. - He was arrested on July 12th while preparing to leave the U.S. after meeting with undercover law enforcement posing as hitman who he had paid $5,000 in advanced payments. The intelligence has led the increased protection for Trump due to Iranian threats. Law enforcement says there's no evidence linking merchant to the recent assassination attempt on Trump. - A UN investigation has found that nine employees of UNRA, the United Nations Agency for Palestinian Relief, may have been involved in the October 7th attack that killed 1,200 people in Israel. These employees have since been removed from their positions. The investigation initiated in January following Israeli accusations reviewed a total of 19 staff members. Evidence suggests nine were involved while cases against others were deemed insufficient for termination. The IDF has criticized UNRA accusing it of failing to address the seriousness of the allegations and questioning the agency's credibility. - Markets rebounded somewhat on Tuesday after Monday's brutal stock market losses. NASDAQ, the S&P and the Dow all gained about 2% by the afternoon. AI stock, NVIDIA and other tech stocks gained back some, but not all of their Monday losses. - Bangladesh has named a new leader. Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has been appointed to lead an interim government in Bangladesh after longtime leader Sheik Hasina fled among protests. Yunus 84 will focus on restoring order and preparing for new elections. The country has been in turmoil with over 100 deaths since this past Sunday. The violence was spearheaded by students against discrimination over government job quotas, high youth unemployment and a stagnant economy. - The U.S. Supreme Court rejected Missouri's bid to halt Donald Trump's upcoming sentencing on felony charges involving hush money paid to Stormy Daniels. Conservative justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito indicated that they would have taken up Missouri's case but would not grant other relief. Trump denies the charges and plans to appeal his conviction after a sentencing in September. - Florida International University has secured a naming rights deal with recording artist Pitbull for its football venue, which will now be called Pitbull Stadium. Mr. Worldwide will pay 1.2 million annually for the next five years and has an option to extend the agreement. As part of the deal, the newly named official entrepreneur of FIU Athletics will create an anthem for the school, promote the university on social media and appear at fundraising events. - And Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker is now the highest paid player for his position in the NFL, here with Morris Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce. The Kansas City Chiefs have secured Super Bowl winning kicker Harrison Butker for four more years with a $25.6 million contract extension. The deal makes Butker the highest paid kicker in the NFL. The new contract comes after Butker was thrown into controversy over a commencement address he delivered at Benedictine College during the off season. During his speech, Butker urged graduates at the Catholic College to be unapologetic about conservative views on marriage, homosexuality and abortion. - Those are your drive home updates this afternoon.
