In a history-altering moment, President Joe Biden has officially dropped out of the 2024 election, endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris to replace him. I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief John Bickley. It's Sunday, July 21st. And this is a special edition of Morning Wire. Here with the latest on this stunning development is Daily Wire Senior Editor, Cabot Phillips. So Cabot, the dam has broken, and we are fully in uncharted waters now. What did the President and now former candidate Biden announce? Yeah, in a time full of historic moments, this one might be the most groundbreaking of all. President Joe Biden has officially announced that he is stepping aside and will not run for reelection in 2024. To be clear, he will serve out the remainder of his first term, but will not be on the ballot in November. In a letter posted to social media, not in a televised or taped address, the President said the following, "My fellow Americans, over the past three and a half years, we have made great progress as a nation. Today, America has the strongest economy in the world. America has never been better positioned to lead than we are today. I know none of this could have been done without you, the American people. It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term. I will speak to the nation later this week in more detail about my decision. He went on to thank Vice President Harris for her support before closing with this. I believe today what I always have that there is nothing America can't do when we do it together. We just have to remember we are the United States of America." Now, something that you stressed and I want to stress again is he announced this via a statement on social media. There was no press conference. There was no video. Yeah. And that is remarkable in itself and Republicans will say it's because he was incapable of making a video like that the first place. Now, what comes next for Democrats? Well, it's possible we see a contested convention where candidates battled it out on the floor of the convention next month. But the most likely scenario right now is that Kamala Harris simply locks up the party's nomination before then. Shortly after making his announcement, President Biden offered a full endorsement of his VP, writing quote, "My fellow Democrats, I've decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as president for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my vice president." And it's been the best decision I've made. Today, I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats, it's time to come together and beat Trump. Let's do this. Now, it's worth noting, many Democratic lawmakers quickly praised Biden for his decision to take it out. But did not go so far as endorsing Kamala Harris? That is something we'll be keeping a very close eye on in the coming days, whether they circle the wagons or hold out and hope for a different nominee. Again, a lot to watch in the coming days. Now, there have been a lot of questions about whether Biden would, in fact, endorse her, but there we have it. He has. Yes. And that will be quite significant. Now, what has President Trump's reaction to this been? So the former president had largely held his fire over the last month or so, presumably because he felt Biden would be an easier opponent than someone like Kamala. But following the news, he let loose, posting to his true social account to, quote, crooked Joe Biden was not fit to rent for president and is certainly not fit to serve and never was. He only attained the position of president by lies, fake news, and not leaving his basement. All those around him, including his doctor and the media, knew that he wasn't capable of being president and he wasn't. And now look what he's done to our country. We will suffer greatly because of his presidency, but we will remedy the damage he has done very quickly. Make America great again. So again, we will have a lot more to discuss in the coming days, including on tomorrow's show, but bottom line, Joe Biden has dropped out of the 2024 race. Right. And as you mentioned, this is a moment that's going to go down in history as are the coming days and weeks. No, yes, it's about to get even crazier, Georgia. All right.
