College is expensive, but being a man shouldn't be. Score 60% off Jeremy's Razor's one-year bundle and dominate campus life. While others conform, you'll stand out, clean-shaven and unapologetic. Major in masculinity at jeremesraisers.com today. I'm Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief John Bickley. It's Tuesday, July 2nd. And this is your Morning Wire afternoon update. Judge Juan Mershan has postponed former President Trump's sentencing in the New York Hush Money case. Daily Wire's senior editor, Cabbage Phillips, has the latest. The delay, granted after a request from Trump and with no objection from in Hatton, D.A. Alvin Bragg, moved sentencing to September 18th. This all comes after Trump was convicted on all charges of falsifying business records following a six-week trial linked to Bragg's investigation. Last night, Trump's legal team sought to overturn his conviction entirely, citing recent Supreme Court rulings on presidential immunity for official acts. As former acting U.S. Attorney General Matthew Whitaker told Fox News, "It'll be difficult to now decipher what evidence can be used in the trial." A lot of those acts have happened during Trump's presidency in 2017. And so I think it's an appropriate exercise of judicial restraint to go through each piece of evidence and determine which bucket it falls in for presidential action. So he could add a lot of time, not only to this case, but also many of the other cases. Trump's sentencing had originally been slated for July 11th, just before the Republican National Convention, where he will be nominated as the 2024 GOP presidential candidate. Former New York mayor and Trump legal advisor Rudy Giuliani has been disbarred in New York state. Giuliani's law license had been suspended last year before a Manhattan appeals court ruled today to formally disbar him. The court says Giuliani falsely claimed widespread voter fraud. Giuliani's attorney expressed disappointment but acknowledged the decision was expected. New satellite images of Cuba show worrying expansion of a suspected Chinese presence. Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce has the latest. A new report from the Center for Strategic and International Studies shows stunning progress on Cuba's array of electronic eavesdropping stations. Those stations are reportedly linked to China and target sensitive U.S. transmissions. The new images show unexpected advancements of China and Cuba's joint telecommunication activity, including a previously unreported site just 70 miles from the U.S. Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay. The discovery has fueled concerns over the growing presence of U.S. adversaries in the Americas, with China building a megaport in Peru and Russia recently sending a nuclear-powered submarine in a frigate to Cuba. The United States government will pay vaccine company Moderna $176 million to speed up development of a bird flu vaccine. Here with the details is Daily Wire Senior Editor Ash Short. Federal officials announced earlier today that funds from the Department of Health and Human Services will be given to Moderna to accelerate its development of an mRNA pandemic vaccine targeting a strain of bird flu. Moderna has already begun development of the vaccine, but government funds will help the biotech company complete production and begin testing. Three people in the United States have been infected with the bird flu since April, all with mild cases. According to federal health officials, there is little risk to the wider American population. A Tennessee woman was awarded nearly $700,000 after refusing to comply with a COVID-19 vaccine mandate. A federal jury found that Tanja Bitten, who was fired from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee for not being vaccinated, proved that her decision was based on a sincerely held religious belief. Bitten worked from home and had requested a religious exemption from the mandate, which was eventually declined. According to the lawsuit, Blue Cross Blue Shield suggested she look for another job before ultimately firing her. Her award includes $500,000 in punitive damages. A Massachusetts judge declared a mistrial in the high-profile Karen Reed murder case. The jury was still deeply divided after days of deliberation. The case surrounds the death of Reed's boyfriend Boston police officer John O'Keefe during a blizzard in 2022. Prosecutors allege Reed drunkenly but intentionally hit O'Keefe with her SUV while the defense attorneys say she was framed. One lie begets another and it's a malignancy that grows over time. And that, folks, is how a cover-up is born. I hit him. I hit him. I hit him. I hit him. I hit it. It was the words of the defendant four times. A note from the jury said, quote, "The deep division is not due to a lack of effort or diligence but rather a sincere adherence to our individual principles and moral convictions." Prosecutors say they intend to retry the case. And Hurricane Barrell has become the strongest July Atlantic Hurricane on record-reaching winds of 165 miles per hour as it's expected to hit Jamaica tomorrow. Barrell has already killed one person when it blew through the Kariaku Island in Granada yesterday. The forecast for tomorrow has projected rainfall totals of four to eight inches across the mountainous island country with isolated amounts of up to 12 inches possible which could trigger flash flooding in vulnerable areas.
