Saka lashed it past start and takes the acclaim of the crowd. And Arsenal, lead now by two goals to nil. Oh, Christopher, another season together. Can Arsenal go one better and win the league, even without bringing a new strike in this season? Erm, no, they can't. Rob, I still think Manchester City are the team to be great start for Arsenal. I can imagine Arsenal fans are thinking, though, made good progress last season under Michael Arteta. Let's hear from Arsenal fans. Can you win the big one, the title this season? Oh, 8 to 8, 5, 9, 9, 6, 9, 3, earlier it was mixed emotions on Merseyside. Salah, plays it now to Dominic Soberslai in towards Salah. Salah with a chance and he's done it! Two-nil, Mo Salah, once again scores on the opening day. Dinkret, edge to the penalty area. Shoots, three-nil for break. First game of Everton's last season at Goodison Park. Won't be one to remember. This is BBC Radio Five Life, call free. Oh, 8, oh, 8, 5, 9, 0, 9, 6, 9, 3, text. 8, 5, 0, 5, 8. Text will be charged at your standard message rate. Plus, see our privacy notice, BBC.co.uk/fivelife. It's a great staff and a slot at Liverpool, Christopher, but Everton, oh Everton, wow, three-nil home defeat by Brighton. Last season at Goodison for Everton and, I mean, what an absolutely disastrous start. I don't know if you saw the Ashley Young sending-off, ridiculous from Ashley Young to pull one of the Brighton players back when he was cleaned through on goal. Brighton's schooled Everton, but Everton had a decent start to the game. But let's hear from Everton, fans, you have faith in Sean Deish and the team. But for Liverpool on a slot, Rob, do you know what, for an hour, Ipswich gave them one hell of a game, but Liverpool's quality shone through. Just from Liverpool's perspective, Liverpool fans, great start to the season. But are you surprised no new players have been brought in? And if you wanted a position to prioritise in, which position should it be? Oh, 8.25.909693. Mackelsfield win again, Charlie Savage scores again. And in the Chris Sutton Derby, ended knowledge to Blackburn 2. But enough about that, Christopher. Who else should he hear from tonight? Well, also, I've just gone back to the Brighton victory. Do you want to hear from Brighton fans about your new manager? Fabulous, Fabian Hertzler, what a start for him. Is he going to be an upgrade on the Derby? Just watching the West Ham Aston Villa game, Rob. John DeRan, you couldn't even write that script, wanted to go to West Ham. Actually, I think he did somewhere along the line, did the old Hammers sign, scored the winner for Aston Villa against West Ham. Where are you going this season, West Ham? You wanted a new manager, a new brand of football, but is it going to be a disappointing season? Or can you finish higher than 9th and Aston Villa? I mean, Blimey, what a start, Rob, for them. Starting where they left off last season, want to hear from Villa fans, what can you achieve this season, Rob? Ipswich and Southampton fans, Rob. No points today, but do you know what? If I was a fan of both those team, promoted teams, I'd take a great pride in the level of performance all the way down. Yeah, I think so. I think you think so. But let's hear, tell us Ipswich fans, why can you stay up the same with Southampton? Great stuff for Burnley, Chris. Wow, 5-0 today, off. Yeah, they are the team to beat in the championship, albeit they've sold a lot of air to Tottenham Hotspur, haven't they? Great start for Scott Parker. Is he an upgrade on Vincent Company? Who is it there by Munich? What do you think? Oh, 8-0-5, 9-0-9-6-9-3, whoever you support, whoever you watch your football, the number to call is 0-8-0-8-5, 9-0-9-6-9-3. Before we go to the first call, Chris, there's been a goal in the Rangers game, Gabby Mullis. I was beginning to think you weren't going to come to me there, Rob. Rangers 2, St John Stynill, Ross McCusland, only been on the part 10, 15 minutes. I counted the tag from Rangers after said he'd be put one by. The post, Rangers up the park, sorry, and it went out to the right-hand side. McCusland just got through and dinked to over Ray to put the game to bed. It should have been more comfortable for Rangers, but with a minute or two to go, Rangers 2, St John Stynill. Thank you so much, Gabby. Listen, good to have you back, mate. Listen, good to us before we go to the first call, which is all of a good summer, mate. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, nice summer, was at the Euros, of course. Then a quick holiday in Crete, where it just marring you three times. I run you three times. Yeah, you went to meet up. Well, you did, didn't you? You said that. I mean, I did. I did. It wasn't on the call list. You text me, where are you? Yes, I mean, I'm half an hour for you. I get a tax in your black-me-call three times. No, I don't think that was what really, really happened. But we're back. Glad to be back. And you've had a good start to the season. I don't want to talk about Mackelsfield for too long, and people don't want to hear it. But what a start for you, Rob? For two on, mate. Do you know what, Chris? I'm never going to have a go at you about being a manager ever again, because the difference, anybody... Listen, we're pundits, and we're very lucky to be pundits. But, listen, I've never questioned managers, you're different. You know, I've, since being that dugout, wow, it is completely, utterly different. I'll accept an apology. I apologize. I apologize to you for your time at Lincoln, because, let me tell you, it is hard. I admire and respect everybody, whether it's good, bad, or indifferent, who have stepped into that dugout, because the pressure, wow, is immense. You know, and it gives you a different insight. It gives you a different insight. So, listen, well done, Chris. You were a fantastic manager for Lincoln and kept them up. I'm next goal, too. Let's lift that up. Yeah, come on, then. Oh, just before we go to Anna, for the first time, for the season, let's cross to the fantastic Rob Nothman. Very kind, Robbie. Lovely to talk to you. Yuri Telemons is in front of me, having just been part of that Aston Villa team that beat West Ham 2-1 today, and that was a well-deserved victory, I thought. Yeah, I think so, too. It was deserved. We had the chances to win, and in the end, we scored one more goal, but I think, in general, our play, we created some good chances. We created some good football, and I think we deserved to win, even though they had good chances as well, but we were solid defensively, I thought. You took the lead early on, but then you had a number of chances. Was there a feeling, after about half an hour or so, that you should have been two or three up? Yeah, maybe, listen, I think that's football, and sometimes these chances go in, and sometimes not, but I think the fact that we kept going, we kept creating chances, and one was going to go in, definitely, and that's what happened, so, yeah, we are very happy. The substitutions in the second half seem to make a difference. The Villa squad seems pretty deep this season, doesn't it? Lots of options for the manager. Yeah, like you say, the substitutions made a massive difference. I thought we had a bit of a dip at that moment as well, and the manager made a subs at the right time, and they created, honestly, the second goal. I think the three of them together combined for the second goal, so credit to them, credit to the squad, and, like you said, we have some really good players in the squad, and everyone's ready to perform. And Yuri, you've got a lot of matches this season. Yes, the Champions League is going to be starting, so you're going to need them. What's possible from this Villa team, do you think this season? Listen, we'll have to wait and see because it's only the first game, but obviously we have our ambition, we've done really well last season, and then we want to build on that. And the fact that we get the Champions League this season, it's a step up from last season. So we just want to be the best team that we possibly can, and let's see what comes. Well, Yuri, thanks so much for your time. That's Yuri Telemons joining us live here on 606, Robbie. Thank you so much, Rob. Right, let's get the calls for the season started, Christopher, Oliver, how are you, Arsenal fan? Hello, Robbie. Hello, Chris. Good to speak to you again. I'm doing great. Good to speak to you, mate. Welcome back to 6 or 6. Yeah, what do you make of Arsenal then today? And what are your hopes for this season, Oliver? Well, I think the performance today has been an Arsenal performance. We've all become accustomed to one great goal from Kai Havot, one great goal from Bekai Osaka, three points in the bag already, and my hopes for this season is as a way to win the Premier League. And I think we're capable of it, perfectly capable. What's different to last season, then? Why are you going to get the better of Manchester City? Well, the thing is, Chris, OK? Since our tetra has took over, we have gotten better and better and better each season. More points the next season after the other. And I think, especially after strengthening the squad with Califore coming in, and also maybe the possibility of another signing, we don't know yet. You need a striker? Do you know the McKell? I don't know. Do you need a striker, Oliver? Now, I'm going to get on to that. At one point, I did strongly believe that we did need a striker because of the need to be near-perfect or perfect to get the better of Man City, because Man City is just an absolute machine. And it's not looking like FFP is going to stop them any time soon. So we can't really rely on that. We've got to be the best team we can possibly be. But I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't sign a striker by the end of the transfer window. That wasn't the question. Do you need a striker, Oliver? This is a yes or no. Is a central striker going to make that much of a difference? Or can you rely on Havertz and Jezuse? You know what? I do not think we need a striker, because we already have two strikers at the club that I think, if our Tetra maybe does a few extra drills every day to try and make them more clinical, and let's not be harsh on Gabby, because he's had injuries and he's not had the best in terms of... OK, he has had many challenges since he's joined us with injuries and trying to get runs in the team. And Kai Havertz has definitely been all I've hoped him to be. When we signed him, he's been a definite success. And I expect him to score many more goals this season. And let's not forget that last season was at most goals we've scored in ages. It's just the limelight is away from us, because Man City are just near perfect. Limelight is not away from you. This is Arsenal. This is a progressing Arsenal, isn't it? And you're right about the last couple of seasons. So the expectation level is there. So you think a few more striking drills from Michaela Arteta and Arsenal are going to go on and pit Manchester City. And also, if all our players can stay fit, we can jump another gear and califore. And let's not forget Jurian timber as well. He's going to be like a new signing. When I saw him against Everton, the last game of the season, he looked like a revelation. OK, Oliver, thank you so much for the call, Chris. Chris, just a quick one, just a quick one. You saw to Gavin. You saw to Gavin Wallace, please. Go on. What's the score of Rangers? Gavin, what's the Rangers score? Gavin, are you there? Chris, it's a bad line, Chris. Do you want me to go? Yes, you can carry on, Gavin. At Rangers 2, St John's in nil. Oh, massive win. Right, yes. Sorry, Chris. I'm the bearer of bad news for you tonight. An almost empty hand, and I reckon there must have been less than 20,000 in here. That's a topic for another night. Witnessed far from great Rangers display. First half, bit of a non-event is the holder squandered chance. After chance, after chance. St John's then fired a couple of warning shots via Adamus. The debate said he'll dare so as though open the scoring in the second half and 58. Referee Matthew McDermod appeared to have given a foul against dare so as on Jack Sanders. Cue the long VR delay. It does appear that when you look back at the replays that the whistle was blowing. Right, decision, Gavin, was it? For the foul. Yeah, I mean, we should have stood in your opinion. Erm, how controversial do you want me to go? It's just a straight answer, it would be nice. That ain't it, it was a foul, if I'm being honest. I would give the defence. But I'm a goalkeeper, so I'd give the defender every day of the week. So, you're a goalkeeper. I was, yes. So, yes, but I would have probably given it. Cue my Twitter, we'll go into meltdown now, no doubt. But we had this lengthy delay. The referee appears to have given it, so that's why VR could get involved, albeit Rangers fans not happy, nobody happy but anything, nobody ever is in Scotland to be fair. It was then, Gavin, and then right before the end, Sadebe, you may have seen it, a great cross into the box, he's at the back post area, and he puts it wide, Chris Robbie. I don't know what he was doing, he got it all wrong. He should have scored it, would have sent us into extra time, and who knows what would have happened then. But Rangers go up the park and dead simple, Connor Barron, who's just signed fires in to Dessars, who plays in Ross McOslin, and you've got to even Chris Sutton would give this to Ross McOslin. It was a cultured finish, a lovely down-covert, Josh Ray, to put the game to bed. But I'm not going to lie, Rangers were extremely poor today, and you have to worry for them at times. But they've got the job done, and they're through. Rangers, too, St Johnston, they'll, sorry, Chris. - Thank you so much. - It's okay, but it wasn't bad. Robert, just heard from Gavin, Rangers fans, tell us about your start to the season frustration, of course, not playing at iBrox, do you know when you're getting back in at iBrox? But, you know, you talk about, Gavin talked about a half-empty Hamden Park. You know, Rangers fans, why aren't they turning up in their drove supporting? They're team, there'll be reasons for that, of course, but that's it from your Rangers fans. - Oh, wait, two, eight, five, nine, nine, six, nine, three, poor, start forever to him, Chris. But surely we're not going to have anybody at the open in there that sees that Dess has to go. Surely, still you there? (laughs) - Robbie, do you fancy moving across a couple of miles? New job? - No, no, come on. - Come on, come on, come on. - Matt, it's just, before you say knee-jerk, this isn't, this is a long-standing opinion, Paul. - Well, you want Robbie to replace Sean Dye. - Yeah, Robbie, I'll tell you what, guys, both of you come along, and if you promise to try and do some form about saying in football, then we'll be right back. - He was five out of eight towards the end of the season. Come on, he's done really well. - It's, no, it's football's terrible. We have one plan, well, actually, no, we have two, but it's pretty much the same thing. It's either long ball from Pickford, or long ball from center half, Crossfield, and that's it. We don't have a plan B, and today, beyond the style of football, I think the mass exodus on the substitution when Wholegate came on was just basically insulting. I've spent my day traveling to go and watch the game, like so many other people. He's got two-nil down, and he brings on a defender that's bombed out on two loan spells last season when he's got attacking options on the bench. The guy needs to go, he's... - What was the score when Wholegate came on? - Two-nil. - Two-nil. - And we conceded one more and an offside go on. - So he brings on another defender, because Ashley Young had got a red card. - I mean, that's a pretty logical decision. - You cannot have a proper short day from that. So what do you want fantasy football then? - He's just spent big money on another defender, so if he needed to bring on a defender with seven or eight minutes to go, why didn't he bring the guy he's just bought rather than someone that's fought? - Well, he will have his own reasons, maybe he wanted to protect him and put Wholegate on instead. But come on, you can't... - No, no, no, no, he doesn't have the opinion. - No, Chris, let me talk. He knows the opinion of what evertonians think, and if he doesn't and he didn't, then he needs to look at the stands and see how many people left when he made that change. That was disgusting what he did. It's just a complete lack of consideration for people who spend hard money, hard-earned money, going to watch that team, because doing that was nothing. What was that going to achieve? Absolutely nothing. - Two-nil. - Two-nil. - Two-nil. - Two-nil. - Two-nil. Stay there, stay there, stay there. 'Cause we've got Josh, who's another everton fan. Josh, how are you, say hello to Stu? - Good evening, Robbie. - Good evening, Josh. - Good evening, Chris. - Good evening, Stu. - So, go ahead. - Go on, Josh. - Yeah, sure, I have a massively different view to that. I just think Sean needs to be given the time and the patience, given, as Chris and Robbie's just said to you, what he managed to achieve last season. Under massive sort of external fact, there's the restrictions that were put on him in the transfer market, the points we had the duct did. He was able to keep the team comfortably safe by the end of the season. - So that's a bit of a challenge. - But he's got new plans. - He's brought, he's brought players in. - He does, this is my turn to speak. No, this is my turn to speak. I'm going to give you the opposite argument to this. So, basically, the squad's way for finishing it. And he's been unable to really improve matters massively. We've showed an hour and a 50 million, but on the best way of field, as we've got country to what the fans share about that. - He's an instant answer. - Yeah, he'll play well in a good team. We didn't play well in our team, 'cause we basically boy-cotted the midfield, but okay, I'll play your point on that. - He must have done all right, he must have done okay, 'cause he's gone for 50 million. - That's what I meant though, he's a good player. He is a good player, but he didn't, he can't say what's in us. - But he must have, he must have done well, 'cause he's gone for 50 mil. If he's in play, he wouldn't go for 50 mil. - No, no, no, no, we... - Okay. - Josh, go on, Josh. - An answer to his question about the team structure today, I mean, Sean's gone with the team that kept him up last season, the experienced players, the likes of Ashley Young, the likes of the Corey, the likes of Ethan Kean, who stepped in when that's his very last season. - Did you go to the game? - And he played really, really well. - Did you go to the game today? - And this is where I have to cut you a bit of slack, because you're a match going fun and I'm not, but I have this different view that, you know, contrary to what people are saying, it's a 38 game season, this is game one. We've played an after each and brighten team, in fact, a very good brighten team, who did exploit the lack of pace that we have in the team, but when we sort of play the teams in and around, you see Sean's, Sean's blueprint on this team are difficult to break down. You know, we might not create too much room for nothing. - We offer nothing. - No, that's not strictly true, you offered nothing. I saw the first 20 minutes of the game and, you know, you had a goal disallowed, they were at, you know, other half chances, there was the penalty incident. - I got a shot for you. - There's a penalty incident in the second half, I didn't agree with Sean Dieshawn. Sean Dieshawn thought it was a penalty, the challenge from Duncan, Dominic Calvert, Lewin. I didn't think it was, but, you know, brighten were devastating, but I think, Stu, I don't know what Josh thinks, but you have to look at what Sean Dieshawn took over. You had a couple of points deductions last season. The club has still up to the club. - Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. He's not done well. In the start of a new season, we should be in a better place than we were. So everyone, you look at that team sheet, and there's nobody who went for that game today, who was excited by that, who thought, yeah, that's a better team than what last season, nobody. - Michael Keene was playing and sent a half. - You've worked at Brantley in the club. - But he kept Brantley in the club. I mean, that's a big deal, isn't it? Keeping Brantley at the club. So, you know, you lost an honor, but there was a lot of talk about Brantley to Manchester United, but actually not being able to really maneuver massively in the transfer market, but to keep hold of Brantley, I actually think that's a big deal for Everton. - Yeah, yeah, I desperately wanted to stay. I think most people wanted to stay, but Brantley wasn't on the pitch today. So, I'm not, he chose to play Michael Keene. That, the defence, Gay gave the ball away. And then, you watch the centre backs today when you watch those goals. They literally just, they looked scared. They gave them so much, I think, I think I think with it well back, they gave them so much space. I'm like, that's professional footballers. It's not, it's elite Premier League footballers doing stuff like that. - So, you're moving on defending. - On day one. - On day one. - It's on day one. - It's on day one. - So, you're serious. - You're serious. - You're so conscious. - So, so, so, so, so, on, on day one, Sean Dasha's on a whole pre-season, you think the best option for Everton would be to, to change manager. Do you? - And, and it's not needed because I would have said that. I would have said that. - Who would have been challenged? - I want to go to the watch. I want to go to the, to the match. Like, every single other person who will phone your show and be, have some form of entertainment. And if I'm not anything. - Who would you be in charge of? - Who would, who would you be in charge of? - I don't know the answer to that, Robbie. I, I will go, when I get home from the match tonight, I will think about that. - But, bring back tomorrow. - Bring back tomorrow. - Okay, I will, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll come back with an idea. - Come on, answer tomorrow. Okay, Stu. - I bet you don't go back tomorrow, Stu. - I'll phone you back. I hope for the Kevin Fell, while I'll be thinking about who it should be as well, because that's his job. - It's Stu, thank you so much for the call. Stu, Josh, go on, Josh, your final words, Josh. - Yeah, so, it's, it's, it's around all of this stuff. I just think patience is the name and the game. Give it to the end of the transfer window. We might have a couple of, you know, rabbits in the heart, so to speak, in the transfer market. Sean's built this team, he's built a solid ray guard. Pick for the second most clean sheets in the premiership last season. And that's, and that's not an accident, that's built on work on the training ground, keeping things tight at the back, generally speaking, with Miss Bramfway today, a massive miss. So there's mitigating factors behind that result. Yes, and it performances like that, who continue. We're all going to question it, aren't we? But, you know, Sean, Sean came into it to an absolute shambles with a football club. He's worked with restrictions. The board's given very little money. We've showed all the best players that we've had, like, with Charles and Onana to name two. So he has to be given this thing called time. I'm just, I'm interested to get your thoughts as well, Robbie, on the ungrads from Aston Villa that came in today. You know, he's stepped in, started his first game in the premiership for Everton. And he didn't look out of place, you know what I mean? That was one of the breaks back in the game, from my point of view. Would you go on with that, Rob? - Yeah, thank Josh. Thank you so much for the cold. - Josh, how are you? - Saj, how are you? Yeah, one day, Saj, so, wow, unbelievable. Saj, how are you, man, you're not your fan? - Okay, Robbie, good evening, Chris. - Good evening, Saj. Big, big excitement after last night's victory. Ooh, hang on, BBC, BBC predictions. Chris, you've gone against a Manchester team again, or, you know, it won't win, but they won. Prove your own. - No, come on, let's not start this at the beginning. If I show now, come on, let's not start all this now, first game, last time we got plenty of time to do all this. But I just wanna basically make comment on the Everton fan. I think he just needs to take it back soon, maybe just gonna have a beer or something. He needs to calm down his first game. Sean Dij kept him up last season, calm down, you know, there's another 30, well, he's having games to go, and he's the right man for Everton. - Saj, do you think, Saj, do you think, so, man, you're not at the top of the league last night, do you think they'll be top of the league ever again this season? - Realistically, no. But I think the thing is, the more united that in the headlines for all sorts of reasons, we've talked about Tanhag, we've talked about his transfers. - So, I've just got to interrupt you, Saj, we've got Julian Lapategi, who's with Rob Nothman. - Yes, Julian, sum up your emotions after that game. You conceded an early goal, but came right back into it. What are your feelings now? - No, I feel bad, who we lost. I have to feel bad, very bad, when you lost, always, your feeling is not good. In the same time, I think that we did good things too. I think that we have a qualities a lot. The match against one of the best team in the last Premier League. I mean, in the current moment, this one, one team that he is more extruder with than us, because they work for the last three years with the same way, with the same coaches and the semi-styland. And despite, they have a very strong team, they improve this this summer. But after this, I think that was a pity, the start of the match, again, with this kind of very balance and matches, you can set one, one goal, he wants and pieces, okay, he's a big advantage for the opponent. A big problem for you. Fortunately, we were able, with the support of our fans, to overcome this bad moment, to equalize the score and the match to, I think, the second half of the first half. I think that we equalize a lot. We changed a little letters in our high press. I think we improved. We were very, very close to score the second goal too. And in the start and the second half, I have the same feeling. We started very well, we had a possibility to score. We didn't suffer. It's true that, after 20 minutes, I have to review the match. But I think that any players, they go low about this energy. It's normal, about this moment of the season. We had to make changes, and they scored a second goal. And we suffered in this moment. But again, we have a good reaction, and I remember two very clear chances to score with, I think, Thomas, and we've done it against that. But we didn't do, so it was a bit different for us. What do you think is the biggest thing that you would like to try to improve your team with in the next few weeks? No, I think that we have to know that the first minute is the same important than 90 minutes. So we have to put the focus in all the moment of the pitch, or the match, and try to avoid this kind of, the same pieces today is key for all the teams. And I think that we have the strength to be stronger in this area. And in the same way, I think that we have to be positive with the good things, too, that we did good things, too. But it's about to improve the bad things and to keep the good things. And one last question from me. You've managed a lot of big teams in Spain, national teams as well. What sort of feeling did you get standing on the touch line here for your first home game at West Ham? No, my feeling was about that we have a very big and fantastic fans, that all of them, they have a big commitment to class. That's why I told that, for me, it's a bit disappointing. But this commitment don't achieve better score today, because they deserve this. And the players, too, they make a big effort. But they did it all. And in the end, it was a big problem. My feeling was that we have this energy, we have this commitment, we have to improve for sure. This is the fastest level of 37 or 38 matches games. We have 37 in front of us. We have two days, a bad day for us. But tomorrow we have to wake up with the energy to work again and to think that, of course, we are able to do better and to be able to face the next challenge. Well, thanks very much indeed for your time. That's the West Ham manager, Julian Lopertagie, Robbie. Thank you so much, Rob Sads. Quickly, you can get another minute from you. Come on, Sads. Basically, I'm looking to see, we need a striker. I want to need another midfielder. And I would bring the bank for Ivan Tony, as United need someone like him, an aggressive striker, who would give authority up forward. And if you get... What do you think? So, you know, Holland's obviously injured. So you want another one in? What do you think it's a striker? Tony, come on, man, you're not in it. What I want to know from Sads? It's Sads, you're optimistic, you say. And if you get this striker in, where do you think you can finish? What's your expectation this season? I think... I do think this season, I think they will finish in the top four. I really do think he'll be top four, because I think it's more decent. They just need to be consistent and not lose silly games. And I think, you know, he needs injuries. I mean, I just don't seem to understand what is going on with the injuries. 73 injuries, I think, last season, which I've never ever heard of. So, if they can avoid the injuries, and I think the key player for us is Martinez. If they can keep him fair, I think we may have a chance, but... Sad, yeah. Thank you. Thank you, Sads. Thank you so much. Look, just going just before Chris is a new season, you might go off the fence. Sad said, Tony, to Manchester United. If you were the board and the director of football, would you go for Tony, for Manchester United? Erm, but I've already got Holland, I don't think. I don't think that's going to happen. Would I want him in addition to Holland, if I could get him in? Yeah, why not? Good striker. Well done. New you this season. No sitting on the fence. 0.85, 0.99693. The UK's biggest football debate. This is 606 with Chris Susson and Robbie Savage on Five Life. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE Welcome back to 606. Chris and I will be back with 606 tomorrow at 6.30pm straight after coming to you over the game of the weekend, as Chelsea take on Man City. Who would be predicted for that one, Christopher? Erm, not predictions, I think this week. You've been awful, always tough at the start of the season. I've gone Manchester City 2-1, I think, Rob. As to what I'm doing. How did you know? I mean, Chelsea top-heavy squad, they've got 43 players, I think, Rob. I mean, big job, Marissa's got on, isn't it? Just as Chelsea were getting going last season. Guess what they did? They got rid of Pochatino. Can't word things out. What's going on at Chelsea? Want to hear, Rob, from Brighton fans. What a start. The second half of the season was really flat, I think, but new manager Fabian Hertzler coming in. What a win today, also Ipswich, Southampton fans. OK, you lost your openers today. But, you know what, Rob, watching both teams perform, I think they could take something from it, not points, but in terms of they actually competed. Well, both teams, let's hear from Ipswich Town and Southampton fans. Also, Christopher, Stottport County, top-of-league. One Chesterfield, five-nil win. That was a win. That was a win. Yeah, crew, I mean, James, Barry, Mayo, Plague, but two goals. Christopher, what a win. You're right, you're right. Hang on, you're all player. Do you take this, Barry? It's very credit for that, then. Yeah, he was, he's the great for us, you know. So, I'm Manchester Field, two goals today. And Reading, I think it looks like the takeovers happening really, really soon, Christopher as well. Who scored for Reading today? Kelvin and Charlie, two other four goals. Did you see his goal midweek? Oh, no, I didn't know. No, he didn't see it. Nothing, no. Send it to us later, Rob. Oh, wow. Wow. Oh, 8085, 996, 903, but, you know, Reading fans give us a call. All right, then, because they were Christopher Liverpool. Ipswich was good for 16 minutes, but the quality they've got at the top end of the pitch, Jota, Salah, you know, so much quality once again. Matesh, how are you? Hi, good evening, good chance. So, yeah, I want to, I'm a big Liverpool fan. I watched today, and I just fear if we don't get that number six in playing in that double pivot, we're going to suffer against better teams in this league. We're still a gap between us and Man City and Arsenal. And the main difference is Declan Rice and Rodry. These kind of players really do make good teams into great teams, I'd say. So, I really just really want to call out, you know, FSG. You've got to buy these players that are critical. And if you look at Arnie Flock's system, he wants to play through, play through the line, he's been methodical, keep possession. And it's clear that Endo isn't his man, because he would have started today. So, yeah, I mean, I was just a bit disappointed, but actually you mentioned Ipswich playing well for 60 minutes. If there were a better team, because they were all over us, pressing and not allowing us to play, we would have been behind easily. - That's easy to say, though, but Ipswich put so much into it. I mean, do you not think that was part of Arnie Flock's game plan? You know, eventually Ipswich would run out of a bit of steam, and that's when Liverpool could export them. - Well, the game plan, let's just run all over 60 minutes then. - Well, hey, what are you on about? - Rob, they put so much into it, Ipswich. You could see it happening. So, I mean, it's not that... - It's not that... - It's not that... - Hang on a minute, hang on a minute. - And it's like 60 minutes, let Ipswich run all over... - How many clear... - How many clear... - How many clear opportunities did Ipswich have, Rob? - So, are you still there, Rob? - Yeah, but listen, a few. - A few. - Yeah, but it's not as easy... - He wouldn't have said, would he? He wouldn't have said, "I'll tell you what, lads." If you didn't address him, he was the manager. - Exactly. - Your first game. Tell you what, lads, let Ipswich run all over you for 60 minutes then, and then go in the game. What are you talking about? It's a bit of a talk and nonsense, that's... - It's a bit risky, that effect. But, again, my point is, if we don't get that number six as top priority, a ball playing defensive infielder, or a lighthouse, as Fabinho used to be, we're gonna suffer, because as soon as we get it to the attack-image-fielders, to the front three, we have the best artillery in the league. That is, you know, it's really compelling, the statistics show that as well. We've got so much once we get it up there, and it's just playing through the lines, and with today's teams, the majority of teams now, in the top 10, play possession-based football, and we need to get better at that. One thing I did notice as well was, there's a little bit of muscle memory of legacy, clearly, that's gonna happen, of when we wanted to really go for it, really go for the throw of it switch, but the players have clearly been conditioned in training to stop, you know, we could've really gone for the throw a few times in the first half, but start again, keep the ball slow and methodical. And I think it will take time, it's just that, I think, top priority is that strike, that number six, but also a left-back, as of long-term cover and replacement for Robertson. What about, so understand, you know, you want all these positions covered, what about Trent's contract? Because he's out, is that the most pressing issue? - Trent and Van Dyke, actually, and I don't know the situation, but I won't be surprised if Trent and Van Dyke are potentially holding back to see how things play out. - Do you think Trent wants out at the end of the season? The fact he hasn't signed anything? Or do you think there's a way you can see? What's your gut feeling? - I think he wants to stay, he's very loyal to Liverpool, that's clear. But ultimately, he still is a big influence. You know, he is vice captain in that squad, and I think if the right steps are made, he will stay, but, you know, he's not gonna move to anybody, it's gonna be Real Madrid, and let's face it, there's not many people who turn down Real Madrid. - There's not, when you test, you know. - Thank you so much, thank you so much for the call, I'm just making notes there. I'm just making notes, Chris, from you as a previous manager. So my team taught Ilkerson away Tuesday, tell you what lads, 60 minutes, let them have all the ball, let them steam rollers, let them have all of it, press is high, let them have it, we're still in the game after 60 minutes. - I'm just, I'm just trying to help you, because I'm worried, because I can see you've had a good, you've had a good start to the season, but are you putting too much into it? Another month, Rob, and if results start going sort of downhill for you, you'll have to sack yourself. So I'm just saying, you know, don't give it your all in the first few games, you know, it's a long season, it's a marathon, Rob, not a sprint. - Thank you, Christopher, for that great bit of knowledge there, for 60 minutes, let them have all the ball and run all over you. Right then, Derek, how are you, it's fun. Derek, I'll tell you what, are you getting run all over, Derek, is it a lead, it's fun? - Yeah, that's right, fantastic to talk to you, but I'll plan to new you then. I was looking forward to the season, I thought we would stand favourites, but I'm afraid that we have lost, we've gone from second to third, we've actually gone full circle, so before we'll be able to come in, we have lost this summer, we have lost actually great young player of the season, Chris Somerville, best player in the championship in the season, and then on Thursday night, sorry, Wednesday night, Bryson said they would pay your junior, junior, realtor's, you know, - Be out, be out, be out, close, yeah, it was a 40 minute - Be out, close, and we have lost all out, if you work out Chris, you'll serve in that final against Norwich, losing them players, we have lost 30 goals, plus, I think, in the region of around 35 assists, so this team today was bachelor playing, like before the out bleaching in the championship, before Be able to come in, we've gone full circle, and it is absolutely gutted. - As you've done all over team, is that it, didn't you? Under Be also, you ran all over teams, you did the energy. - Exactly, exactly, Robbie, and now, I mean, I'll tell you what, this is a call out to the 14 winners, this is a listen to this brilliant baby feature, it's a door, it should be, it should be. You've got to give Daniel Barker the tools to do the job, because at this bubbling time, we will be lucky to get in the top half of the table, and I've been serious there, I'm not exaggerating, I know it might sound like it, but if you don't give this guy the tools, in the next 13 days, then we will struggle, we will be nowhere near the top six, and we will be lucky, I think we could end up, I don't know if you remember, when we lost at Watford and Kat against Cardiff, in 2005, 2006, I think it was, the following season was relegated to League One, so is that serious at least you made it? It really is, and they have left Daniel Fack, paying trades for our bank on sale, because they thought there was something like soon, the next 13 days, they'll get the round in the pocket and get some players in, because it's that, it is there, it really is. - Do you know what, do you know what? I think you make some great points, I don't know whether the owners will be listening back in San Francisco at eight o'clock in the morning, but if they are, I think you've made it, some very strong points. - Why would you not listen to the clock? - A lot of people listen to the clock. - Yeah, they might, maybe they've had a lie in there. - You've got a fantastic breakfast, - I don't know, I don't know. - They do, they can listen to the podcast one. - Yeah, yeah, they can listen to the podcast, and maybe they should listen to you, because I've got to say, I am baffled by what's going on at Leeds, for the points you make, you think, well, you know, disappointing last season, getting into the play, our final losing in the manner, which you did, but then at the start of this, season you sell all your best players, you don't replace them, and then you expect Daniel Fark to produce miracles. I mean, bottom line, Derek, is the squad, with the players you've mentioned leaving, is that a squad which can compete for automatic promotion? Yes or no answer? - No. - There you go, that's, and I would agree with that. So, you clearly need strengthening. I bet there's a lot of anger, Rob, because Leeds, one of the favourites to go up, the size of the club, but, you know, Daniel Farken, not being helped. - Yeah, Derek, thank you so much for the call, Derek made some good points there. Thank you so much, Derek Bright and Chris. They were very good at Everton. Anthony, you were there. - I wasn't there, how are you doing, Jen? - Yeah, you're on the way back, Anthony. - Oh, I'm on the end, Chris, Chris. - Chris is travel show, gone, Chris. - Whereabouts are you? Make sure you stop and have a cup of coffee, and what have you been? - Well, we'll see, we'll do about 137 miles. I think I'm about halfway there. - Not about 137, you must know that. - All right, there's something out of this area, I'm doing 37 miles. - Right, so come on, then, you must be absolutely made up, Anthony, with that performance today. Did you see it coming? - Well, yeah, of course, it's the optimistic again this season. You know, I'm biased, obviously, but I think we're quite special in the way that we do stuff, and the players that we seem to find, and obviously the scouting, we must have been doing behind the scenes for Fabian as well, is quite something. I think he's a very good fit for the club. Although the first 10, 12 minutes at Goodison was, if you'd have said then said to me, we're gonna win this game three-nil, and actually score a very good goal, but be given off-side quite rightly. I would have said no way. Everton looked good those first 10 minutes. I was listening to those two fans earlier. That guy looked with Ty Schall. He's got to train some slack. I mean, if you're certain about their ball across the part, we couldn't deal with it. We were not marking up anyone. You know, they were getting that ball through. They were getting the crosses in. I mean, if that shot on target had hit the post, it might have been a different story, but we adapted really well. We got some great players, obviously some great players on the way in as well. I'm guessing not to annoy that lead fan, but I'm guessing the Giorginio route to news hasn't broken. Yeah, obviously I can't check my phone on the road, but yeah, it's an exciting time. I think we're gonna do something quite special this season. What's quite special? Top six. Top six, and we'll see if we can carry the way there. Have a safe trip back, Anthony. Top six. Is he getting carried away, Rob? Yeah, I'm not sure. Would you give your old club a chance of top six? My old club. No, I don't think they'll finish top six. I thought before today, and I'll stand by, I think, Westam. That was my surprise. I tipped Westam to finish seventh. If anybody could break it in my good style, that was a good prediction. Not easy, is it? Didn't the prediction? Well, do you remember, do you remember Alex when Aston Villa got beat at Newcastle in the day? Said Aston Villa, a very good team. Remember that? Where did they finish fourth? Westam can be a very good team. Are you comparing yourself to Alex Ferguson? Three wins at Mackelsfield. Was he? Yeah, you're saying. Let's go to Kevin, he's a wall, son. How are you, Kevin? Well, fine, thank you. Very much, I've got the game on five live today. First off, our fourth off, we're going to give it round, but the second off display sounded very, very encouraging, because they're expecting, definitely against them, because I think they're going to win a league or not. But if Gary O'Neill and Matt Jobs can bring in a couple of plays in the next week or two, I think we've got a good chance to finish it off, right? Has the climate changed, Kevin, at Wolves, in terms of, or the ambition changed, in terms of transfers and the level which Wolves want to go to, in terms of bringing players in. You've sold Netto, who's a massive loss. Kilman, I think, was an ever-present last season. I mean, are you going to replace, or how are you going to replace that quality? Well, you know, we've got two good players go. Netto, on his day, was very impacted off the time. He used to miss him, he played 20 games, and he played off the season. He'd be able to off the season. He's a brilliant player, you know. I don't know, good luck to him, but you'll see. My obvious nightmare next Sunday, when we play him. But, um, seriously, I haven't said that. I think if we can, if we can bring another two or three players in, because, um, because of local other clubs now, I'm a, I love a club club to sell, um, plays to, or even the big boys on Newcastle. And man, you know what you know, I want to, I want to do that. But if Gary, Matt, Matt Jobs and Gary O'Neill can give us a couple of, a couple of ball, but, couple of ballgame players. I've just listened to that broken fan, and then the way he's broken have done it over the past few years has been absolutely fantastic. I know they're a big, um, Monday, 11, and I've been, um, playing the club. They're like ourselves. Same sort of level, level support, whatever. And I've done absolutely brilliant. If we, if we can check the leaf out the layerbook, if we can finish top off, mid-table, I'll be happy with that. Have a good cup of it. Do you think that, Kevin, do you think Gary O'Neill has a tougher job this season than last season? Well, um, I think it, well, I'd say, um, in a way, yes, in a way, I'd say, it's going to be a stuff as difficult all the time. The only good thing will give you a real note. He's had a, he's had a good three season. We'll just squad as well this time last year. He already come in a couple of days before the start of the last season, if you remember. Yeah, that's why I asked the question. You know, the messy came to it. But now, you know, you're selling your best players. And, uh, I think we took it down this year. I think, yeah, I think walls, I've done my predictions. I had walls fourth bottom. I think they could be serious danger getting really good this year. No, no, no, yes, that's your, you know, better. Yeah, I'll be honest one, yeah. We have got a brilliant couple of three plays in before, but it's good. We got the nucleus of a good side, we've got a good team. But the squad is not strong enough. We can bring in a couple of three plays in just for the squad. I reckon we could finish off well because last year we'd do well. Rob, thank you. Rob, did you think that's part in the sky? Rob, then, halfway is halfway. Yeah, I think they'll be in, I think, three from five. My five was walls. My three to go down Chris, I don't know what yours were, was Southampton, Ipswich, and Leicester. And I've walls fourth bottom. Yeah, but those are the three I had to go down. I saw your predictions, but you basically copied me for the top three and bottom three. Southampton, I think they need a striker, Chris, another striker. I've got Bretton and I'm strong up top, I think they need another striker. What do you think I haven't? Hello, good evening. Yeah, I agree. I was at the match today and the problem, part of the problem was we don't have enough punch up front. And also they played on the wings. So we didn't really have anyone in the middle. To Amat, and yeah, you know, and Newcastle, credit to them. They held us off relatively easily, given that they played with ten for about two thirds of the game. I mean, as you back in the Premier League, last time in the Premier League, I think 25 points, miles off it. But that, you know, I watched the start of this game. 11v11, I think Russell Martin made the point afterwards as well, before the sending off. Southampton were giving as good as they were getting from Newcastle, if not more, but I take your point, just not creative enough, Ivan. But you must have been delighted, really, because looking at that game in Newcastle, the way that Eddie Harry plays, and the way that Newcastle can blow teams away, but in terms of actually getting a foothold in the game, Southampton were pretty excellent, I thought. Oh, we're all, I mean, it was wonderful. The first half was absolutely wonderful, and then McCarthy does a howler. But the first half apart from that was superb. Our midfield, Downs, Arebo, they were totally holding their own and even dominating small bone as well. The new right back Sugiwara was excellent, I thought. And so really, the play was really, really good, and we imposed our possession style quite well. We sort of insisted on it, and as the game went, we really were keeping the ball, and Newcastle were finding it hard to get it off us. So to concede, the goal was just such a sucker punch. And we never found a way to get back into it, which is a shame. And the goal is another problem. I mean, you know, we have McCarthy, we have the Zunu, and each of them has issues, and really McCarthy today cost us, because Martin insists on playing possession from the back. So he needs a goalkeeper as confident with the ball in his feet. And McCarthy isn't up to it in that sense, really. I mean, so do you blame Russell Martin for that, or is it all on McCarthy? No, no, I mean, McCarthy knows where he's playing. And also, he came in towards the end of last season when Bazoona got injured. I mean, look, the situation was totally McCarthy's fault. He just, he messed up. Should Martin compromise? He does. He actually compromises more than people can give it up. I totally agree with you. I think that's a great answer, because Russell Martin didn't tell McCarthy to pass the ball straight to his neck. You know, he has his principles to play, but they actually mixed it up well. Robert, especially at the end of last season, everybody talked about Southampton possession-based. But, you know, they can't, they can't mix it up. You've got a fire power critter coming out, as well? Yeah, I think you made that point. Britain Diaz, you know, seems to be an okay. So, I think Adam Armstrong, you know, are they going to get you 20 goals? I think it's an issue. But I've got to say, I was mightily impressed up until the final third-rob. All game, superbly organised. I actually thought they caught Newcastle cold. I thought Newcastle were going to blow them away. But, so you take heart from that. But, you know what, Robert, as a former player many years ago, like yourself, in the dressing room at the end of the game, I'd have felt absolutely sick because they should have got something from a difficult fixture. So, waiting for West Ham and... Ipswich fans, Christopher, 825, 996. You know they're in trouble, Ipswich fans. Before the news, let's go to Michael's. Liverpool fan, how are you, Michael? Yeah, good, thank you. Good, good, good. Come on then, Michael. I was ringing up for the point it was. There was a very controversial incident again tonight, wasn't there? You're talking about the West Ham penalty, which was awarded, yeah. Yes, I am, yeah. Now, to me, if you get the ball, play against the ball. Can it be a penalty? With this particular one, I think I agree with you. I thought cash got the ball, so it should have been. So, the penalty was awarded, wasn't it? It should have been. It should have been. I thought that was a clear and obvious error. I think now, you know, from what I... It went to VAR, didn't it? Yeah, it went to VAR. If we are looked at it, and they thought cash got the ball, where did they overturn our decision? I totally agree with you, and I think there will be a lot of people like yourself, Michael, who are scratching the heads. I'm scratching my head as well. I thought... I thought it was some common sense, don't we? No, absolutely. I think in the week, Howard Webb was talking about this. It's a bit like cricket with umpire school. You're going to go with referee's call, unless there's a clear and obvious error. I thought that was a clear and obvious error. You thought that was a clear and obvious error, Michael. So, we're both in the same boat there. That's a head scratcher. Well, I'm not sure I want to be in a boat with you, Chris. I'm not sure I want to be in a boat with you, Michael. No, you're the one that suggested it. There we go. So, who's your team then, Michael? Liverpool. So, that's on the coast. That's a good start. So, and what's your view on Liverpool this season? I mean, haven't strained it. We'll win the league. We'll win the league. We'll win the league. We'll win Liverpool. Yeah. We'll win the league based on the team. Oh, we've got a great spread, haven't we? So, who's the last team before Man City to win the league? Liverpool. Yeah. Well, there you go. Then, what can we win it again this season? Do you think you're stronger than Arsenal and Manchester City? That's why I don't think you'll win it. Time will tell. Time will tell. Time will tell. I mean, Man City a week of this season, aren't they? Yeah, it was a really good start. It was a very good start. It was a very good start. I got to go to Madrid, which is a big loss to him, I think. But that might mean Harlan might play more minutes. Well, yeah. But I just think Liverpool have got a great squad. There's no reason why we can't win it, isn't it? You know, so, you know, it's a shame we can get that Spanish player, but even so, we've got a great... You know, that was a fantastic result today for the manager. I was over the moon, they won that match, because, you know, a new manager coming in following clock is going to be really difficult. So that was fantastic. It was. Michael, thank you so much for the call. Do you think Liverpool will win the lead, Chris? No. No, OK. I don't think me and Michael will ever go sailing together. Would it be a sailboat or would it be like a speedboat? I'm not sure about that. Rob, maybe a canoe. I'll tell you what, in the Olympics, some of the canoeing was... Who's your favourite canoeist? I like the Australian... The Australian... Fox. This is Fox. Good. This is Fox. The Australian... You won two goals, I think. I might be wrong. And I think it's... And I think it's Sister. I think it's Sister Woman as well, Christopher. I might be wrong. I might be wrong. Oh, wait, sorry. Five... Nine... Nine... Six... Nine... Now, more 6.06. On five live. The Digler, edge of the penalty area. Shoots, three-nil for break. The fact that we lost three-nil, so I never lose sight of that. You can think of the bones out, we all go, but we lost three-nil. And the people at the game would go, "Yeah, they lost three-nil." A lot of our performers, certainly up until the send-off, was a very strong performance from our point, a very strong home before this. But we don't get our nose in front, and that's what we've got to do better. We didn't do enough times last season. We did in the end, over a season's work, but if you remember early season, very similar, very strong display, opening up chances, getting into great errors, couldn't break their moment with the goal, and got counter today. And then, you know, by the time it's an off-tunal now, the sending-off is very difficult, regularly. So the rest of the game has got, I'm going to say for all of us, I think, all that added minutes, so it's a fast now, you know, it's got ridiculous. And three-nil down, ten-nil is, you know, we all know the stats and facts. Why are you keeping, and it's not that we're free, it's not that they have to do it. If someone gets injured in that title, imagine if someone's serious and gets injured, we'd all be pulling it off, go, "Why have you done that? Why haven't you done that?" They've got a look at that, I might be. This is BBC Radio 5 Live. Call free, 08085, 909-693. Text 85058. Text will be charged at your standard message raise. Right then, Christopher, you've got Spurs, Shock Horror, that'll finish in the top four this season. Why? Well, do you know what, I think they made great progress last season. Do you know what, Rob? And I don't know whether I'm right about this. Interested by Europe, I think there are people who want a pylon. Top them this season, and I like ready to pounce on the... Why? I just get that feeling. You know, the first negative result, I think there'll be a massive pylon. I think Solanki's a really decent signing for them. I know people are talking about 65 million. I think he's a good all-rounder, 19 goals for Bournemouth last season, over a third of their goals. I think there'll be a good fit for Tottenham. I wasn't always sure about him, but I think that, you know, after losing Harry Kane, they've now, I'm not saying they've replaced him like for like. But I think he'll do well there. I think the full split is... I hope they do well, I like watching big angers brand of football. Oh, wait, wait, five, nine, six, nine, three, how are you, Joe? You're a very optimistic, like Chris Spurs fan. Hey, guys, I hope you had a good summer. You too, Joe. So you're a big Spurs fan, Joe. No, no, I'm not a big Spurs fan. Well, because they've just literally stole our play with an under the last night. What's up, Rob? You just said, "Joe's a Spurs fan, Rob." So Spurs fan of my sheet? Oh, there's a beer, is it? I'm sure it's a beer, I'm sure it's a beer, I'm sure it's a beer, only fan. Yeah, and Spurs have just taken all of it. Sorry, Joe, listen, listen, we all make errors, listen, I'll let that one go. I'll take the responsibility for that, Dave. Hope you read your team out, better, Rob. Yeah, it's a good point, just keep the same team, win the winning, Chris. How are you going then, Joe? Yeah, first of all, it's been a good five-0 victory. I mean, one of the best five, you know, that we've ever had. Recently, but the league already, I mean, Scott Parker so far has done a great job. For us, since the place is in company. And the question that you said, is he an upgrade to Vincent Company? I'll probably say, yes, he is, because he's more tactical, he's more got more experience in company. And we'll see how it does in the championship so far. So I just hope that with the players we've got now, we've had to generate a 63 million quid worth of sales so far in the transfer. I think, like, that's enough now for us to doubt, don't sell any more players. Now, we'll just kick on the season that we've got. But to say, though, to say an upgrade on Vincent Company, that's harsh, because Vincent Company in the championship was brilliant. Of course, the Premier League, you know, how would Scott Parker fair in the Premier League? With Burnley. I mean, I mean, yeah, you've got a point. I mean, he didn't do well at, like, full on and all. I mean, I mean, it's just, I mean, the Premier League's not for him. And it's a bit too much for the championships, too. It's better than just staying in the championship because it's much. And if the championship is not better than the Premier League, it's more comfortable for you than by all means. I mean, I mean, they all make mistakes and somehow, but I think the championship might be a bit of a wake-up call for him to make sure that he's got his tactics right and also got his managerial statistics right in the way. I mean, depending on the players that he gets and the players that he's comfortable around. Joe, how difficult was last season for you as a Burnley fan? But were you one of these Burnley fans who actually thought, well, you know, we've got a model as a club. We buy development plays. You've talked about the, you know, the sell-on and the value. But I always felt, you know, coming down that you're on one of those clubs, which has recruited well. Actually, I thought towards the end of the season in the Premier League last season, it performed well and you could see the confidence was there. That might sound ridiculous. That's the way it seemed to me. And I always felt that you were the outstanding team in the championship to maybe bounce back because of the strength of the squad. Yeah, I mean, yeah, that's what I mean. Last season, some of those players, I mean, yes, we recruited so many players. And we've, I mean, the championship, I mean, the season before, we had that team, you know, coming to the Premier League, we had to rip that, rip the squad out and literally generate it and just board some more players into a place. And then it was just a whole different team from last, from that season. So, and then coming into the game, it's just, I feel like they weren't bothered in that season. I thought, I know we've been trying to play this Tiki Kaki, you know, I was actually coming out from the back and more aggressive football. But he just wasn't working for most of those players, because it's the Premier League. You know, you can get busted and the, well, the opposition teams are well organized and more on a game plan than those. But you just for coming to this season, I hope the players that come from last season, according to this season, I hope these players have got a wake-up call coming for them. Because they need to be played, need to prove towards those fans that if you can do it in the championship and winning games and learn playing your football, then you have a right to go back into the Premier League. It's just about how Scott Parker's done. It's only been two games. It's going to take time for a bit to try and to get the chemistry and the jail in from Scott Parker's system. But if we can keep this momentum going that we've got so far, a hundred percent record so far, but if we can keep this momentum going, coming into the season, recruit only a bit more players into strength from the squad by the end of the transfer window. And then, if we can hopefully pick up more results and stay top off the promotion fight, then we could have a big chunk on, hopefully win a championship. Thank you so much for the call, Joe. Well, I've been a sports fan soon, Christopher, before that, Wayne Rooney. Clement, did you watch him against Sheffield Wednesday, Chris? Was it 4-0 defeat, but they've got a draw today. What did you do, early thoughts? Actually, my Wayne, for taking the job, I think success is staying in the championship. I think it's going to be difficult. What do you think, David? Hello. Hello, David. You're a Plymouth fan. David, tell us about the whole start to the season. Were you impressed with the appointment of Wayne Rooney? And where are you at now? Yes, I was very impressed with the appointment of Rooney. I wasn't a massive fan of him as a player, but since he's come in... Well, you didn't rate him? No, not that I didn't rate him. I just, the teams he played for on really my cup of tea. But I think a fantastic player didn't get me wrong. But since he came in as a manager here at Argo, he's conducted himself really well, tried to connect with the fans. And obviously, we were already disappointed with the game last week, Sheffield Wednesday. I watched it on TV, and we really didn't look great. But then I went up to home park today, and he made free changes, and the performance was loads better. And I think we got some of the be positive about now. And just the mood amongst Plymouth fans with that appointment, tell us about it. Was there sort of the overwhelming masses thinking that this is an excellent appointment? Were there Plymouth fans skeptical because of what happened at Birmingham? Well, yeah, obviously there was quite a few question marks with his kind of record already. But I think everybody kind of, because it was in the summer, everybody sort of took stock a little bit and said, "Actually, look at what he's done. He did a good job at Derby. I think there was rumours going around that he hadn't actually made a signing at all as a manager because he didn't get to do that at Birmingham. So maybe he hadn't really had a fair run of it. So maybe this could be his time. And I think there was a lot of talk about Argo in around the media, which I think is good for the club. I don't think that's why the club had pointed him. But it's been positive. And I mean, he's made a great bit of business over the summer getting in Sisoko. This is a guy on loan from Toulouse. Got the goal today. He looks like a real handful, brought a championship player. Yeah, he was really good. He was actually linking up down the wing with Bali Mumba, the actual Norwich player, the one you quite wrongly said, "We wouldn't sign from you." Yeah, wow, wow, wow, wow, wow. I think you've had a good call, David. Well, what did you say, David? I just thought Mumba would have sort of a greater ambition. So you said you couldn't sign up, man? Whoa, whoa, whoa, David. You're playing under Wayne Rooney, he's doing fantastic. He was much more like his old self today. He struggled last season, I must admit. I'm just trying to be respectful to Plymouth. I mean, you know, when you talk about size of club, it's nowhere near the size of Norwich as a football club. It's a nice club, a nice part of the world, but it's not Norwich City. Do you think Norwich will finish above our goal this season? Well, I'm pretty certain it's got two cathedrals. Hey, we're the biggest city, not in the Premier League. I think that's a start. No, hang on a minute. Was that a start you made up yourself this morning? No, I think that's a really start. I think you're the biggest city that's never been in the Premier League. What about Birmingham? Birmingham will be the Premier League. Oh, it's not been in the Premier League, sorry. Wow, wow. David, David, listen, this is why Chris is so highly paid and all his... David, you're boasting about not being in the Premier League. David, thank you for the opportunity. I'm not very big about it. I'm just correct in you, when you were two cathedrals. What about Jevonna, we haven't been in the Premier League? Oh, let's get the bunting out. David, thank you. Thank you for the call, David. Great, Chris, and that's why you have so highly paid, Chris. Why will Norwich finish one of Plymouth? Because they've got two cathedrals and Birmingham, as a city, they've never been in the Premier League. Wow, seriously. I actually took them down, funnily enough. Wow, it's unbelievable. Cheesy. Wow, you should look at yourself every day, just thinking, "Oh, three wins on the trot." Honestly, you're getting above your station. The Mickey Mouse League, biggest budget. Why do you think Norwich will finish? Because you've got two cathedrals. Right, Ben, you're a Spurs fan, how are you? I'm very well, thank you, how are you? Yeah, we're good, thank you. Come on then, Ben, I'm excited about Tottenham this season. Are you? Everyone is always talking about Spurs. Right, we... Well, they're not. They're not really. They are, they are, they're not. They're not, they're not. They're talking about Arsenal, Man United, Man City. Yeah. Spurs are a better watcher than Arsenal. We are a better watcher than Arsenal. So that was boring today, wasn't it? It was, it's a shame because half my family's Arsenal half-bit Spurs and the wrong side at the moment, but I think it'll be the right side this season. We're getting there. I think we've made the right signings, 18, 18, 19, and then Dom Nick Flanky got Bergh Valle in, Archie Gray from Leeds and that young kid from Burnley. I think, I think it's the right stuff, but it's just, it's a question, isn't it? How are you going to finish above Arsenal and, and City? I didn't say Arsenal and City. I think that we're going to come for them over the next two, three seasons. I didn't, I didn't say that this season. Next two or three seasons. Yeah, I think, no, look, the point production this year will be interesting when I really don't want Arsenal to win the league, but I think that's probably on the cards. And I think that I take top four. Oh, words as a Spurs fan. I think we're going to be good. Dom Nick Flanky was prolific last season for Burnley. Do you not agree? Yeah, Ben, where, where are you on the end of last season for Tottenham? I mean, are you like me? Do you judge the season as a whole or are you, are you one of those people who thinks, well, you know, the end of the season, things, you know, angepostococcal, who seemed a little bit aggravated about certain things, but you have to judge them on the whole season, right? And, and, and Spurs made great progress under him. I agree. I think that November was very unfortunate. That game against Chelsea when I was there was awful, when we lost what threw two centre backs and our midfield, and it was awful that game. And you're playing, and you're playing the highest line in the history of world football. Unbelievable. Exactly. Exactly. And it was, and then what, the striker scored three goals. The Mexico City scored all season. It was nuts. But, no, I think at the end of the season, the pressure's on to get Champions League football. Aston Villa looked very good and consistent throughout, albeit they lost that first game, five-nil. But I think that we're going to be better than Villa this season. Let's just start. Newcastle will also be there without European football. But the rest of the, I think, I think United could be there as well, but I honestly think that our team now touched with no injuries to our key players. We could be there and there are backs. And Ben, yeah, that Ben, very optimistic. Thank you so much. Obviously, you know, when you speak to hands on the phone, Chris, you know, what did he say to you? No, we don't speak. Rob, come on. I'm a panda. I don't speak to managers. Rob, does it, don't you? No, you're the only manager I speak to, but you're not serious managers. I don't speak serious ones. Oh, let's go to Phillip, who's a Manchester now. - Does it mean that? - I'll take that back. No, don't worry. Fine. Hello. Hello, fellow, you've felt? Hello. I've got a poem of course 606. It's about the banter between the both of you from last season. Oh, go on then. Oh, go on then. So I'll read it out and it goes like this. If you're having a breakdown or maybe feel a miss, then ring the RAC. Yes, that's Rob and Chris. Chris hates City and United, staying spares are on the up. Telling Rob his trophy was a poor 300 cup. Now, Chris likes the lighthouse family and you may hear him sing if the F.A. scrapped the league cup, meaning Rob's not one of things. Robby is now manager. He's beloved Mac. But if he's really bad, will he give himself a sack? Garden leave is trendy now. It's right up Chris's street, putting on his gardening pants and joining the elite. Rob thinks Chris is not the brightest spark, asking a fan that he enjoyed travelling in the dark. But Rob gives his trademark, wow. And you can rest assured he'll tell Chris all about his broadcasting award. But geography lets Rob down. Does he know the River Seven? Struggling with a map finding Dorset, Kenton, Devon? And who tamed the potential bank none other than Chris? But let's be fair, his managing was somewhat hit and miss. His praise of Scotty's football just goes on and on. The problem there, Chris, the German's 151. And Chris banging on about and ball makes you want to weep. It even draws his wife to go on supermarket sweep. Now, now both of you may hate this poem calling me a prat. Oh, hey, come on, guys. I think you're better than that. Oh, who wrote that for you? I wrote that for you. I wrote that myself. Thank you very much. That's absolutely brilliant. A very accurate Philip. A lot of that hurts, actually. But I'm absolutely brilliant. I think it's the best of both of you. I didn't want to favour one against you. Philip, that was absolutely brilliant, honestly. Well, honestly, that was absolutely brilliant. So, my mum listens to this show every week. And I bet she rings me straight after the said, "Philip, what a brilliant poem that was." Yeah, I mean, I had it ready for the old ones, but I didn't read it out then. Are you like, I mean, do you write poems for a living, or is this a one-off Philip? I just write comedy stuff. So, I'll pre-table tennis with a table tennis group of my old poems then. So, I'd just like that funny thing. So, you write poems when you're playing table tennis, that's... No, it's about the table tennis group, and when we had our Christmas meal, I wrote about the group, and they found it quite funny. And then, I think it was a poem read out on Monday Night Club. So, I thought, "That's the best way to sum up the season from last season." Yeah, you did it really, really well. Thank you so much for the... Listen, I'm sure 5 Live will tweet that out, Philip. So, if they do, I'm sure they'll get huge numbers. That was absolutely brilliant. Thank you so much for the call, Philip. That was really the supermarket swing, it was so very good, Philip. They'd be delved deep there, didn't they? Hey, did they? Oh, James, West Ham fan, how are you? Hello there, Chris Robbie. How are you? Just like to make a point about West Ham today, not very good performance, certainly not the first half. But what I'd like to speak to Robbie about is, a couple of years ago, I spoke to him, I think he was after the Everton game, and he said about Sean Dice replacing David Moyes, but I think Sean Dice, she's going to go down this year at this rate, you know, and not so sure about it. They've got the same number of points as West Ham at the minute. Yeah, I know, I think when I last spoke to you, I was quite happy for Scott Parker to get the job, because I think he had a good job at Burnley. So you're putting the boot into Sean Dice after one game, are you? Oh, I think I should get shot of him. I'm not impressed by him at all. After one game, players, he's bought. I'm not sure some of the fans will agree with me. I'm very surprised that many of the other West Ham fans have not mentioned Scott Parker. He was a good leader for us when we had him as a spell as a player. And, you know, I think he's got the capabilities of being a premiership manager. Are you happy with Lopatecki, then? Not really, no. Really? I think he should have started with a new signings for a start, you know, because it looks like Pantone, I was running around my head with his chicken, doing nothing again. Using Fulbright in the stomach. A couple yards off the pace. Have you got anything positive to say about anything? Possibly. Possibly. Possibly the performance of Max Kilmer, who looks probably about the best player we've got. OK, James, thank you for finishing 6-0-6 with a bit of positivity. What a point. What a show, great to be back with you, mate. This is a great season. We love 6-0-6, don't we? Thank you for all your calls tonight.
