Welcome to the One Life podcast with Becca White. I am your host and this is episode 37. Hello, cute girl. Come, give me a hug. Years ago, when the kids were small, we had a community of young families that we would see regularly. One of my friends was masterful in making kids feel like a million bucks. Every time my kids saw her, she would erupt with, "Hello, cute girl. Come, give me a hug." Or, "Hello, handsome. Can I hug you?" With arms outstretched and welcoming. My kiddos felt so important and special from the greeting from Aunt Tanya. Life circumstances changed and our two families ended up spread across the country and we hadn't seen each other in years. This past summer, as luck would have it, we were able to visit Tanya and her husband in Las Vegas. My younger daughters haven't been around her at all and all it took was her signature greeting and she is now Aunt Tanya to them too. Tanya does not just do this for my children. She does this for everyone she greets, myself included. She extends love and warmth and acceptance and belonging. I am so grateful for her example. So, how important is a greeting? If a greeting can communicate love and warmth and acceptance and belonging, I'd say it's pretty dang important. Here's my take. A greeting is a magical space because it can set the tone for an entire interaction. And the most important interactions happen where? In our homes with the people that live there. Today's invitation is this. "Greed the people you love like you love them. Make eye contact. Kiss your spouse. Be excited to see your kids. Hug your teenagers especially when they don't want to be hugged. Extend love and warmth and acceptance and belonging. Everyone needs to be loved. Everyone needs a safe place where they belong. Let that place be with you. We only get one life, let's make it our best. [BLANK_AUDIO]
