Welcome to the One Life podcast with Becca White. I am your host and this is episode 39, Courage. Are you ready for today's Monday mindset? Let's go with a quote from Anais Nin. "Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage." In dictionary terms, courage is defined as the ability to do something that frightens one. As you begin your week, I ask you, what will require courage from you this week? If you know what that is, awesome. Go get it! If you don't have anything in your weekly that scares you, I ask you, why not? The good news is that courage is not a finite resource. Courage is like a muscle that can grow and be strengthened. And how do we grow it? By using it? A helpful exercise for determining what this looks like is to answer this question. What would you do this week if you had more courage? Think about that for a minute and allow your intuition to answer. Your soul already knows what it is. What would you do this week if you had more courage? Now, make a plan and go do it. The only way our courage grows is by using it. And if we don't use it, well, it shrinks. When our family moved from Utah to Colorado, one of our daughters was starting her junior year. Needless to say, she was devastated to be moving away from her friends and family and life that she had created for herself in Happy Valley, Utah. Several months before the move, Rob and Sydney and I went out to Colorado to decide which high school she would attend. We visited five schools searching for the best fit for her and for our family. We 100% let Sydney make the decision. In between stops, we ate lunch at Ted's Montana Grill. Super yummy. Highly recommend. Anyway, the waitress came over to take our orders and threw down three coasters. Sydney's coaster had this quote on it from John Wayne. "Courage is being scared to death and saddling up anyway." So fitting for Sydney at that time in her life. She did choose a high school and she recreated a beautiful life for herself in Colorado. And then when she went away to college a couple of years later, she recreated a beautiful life for herself in California. There is no doubt in my mind that wherever she goes in life, she will be able to create a beautiful life for herself. She continues to be the bravest person I know. To restate Annaias Nins wisdom, "Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage." So today's invitation is this. Do something this week to grow your courage and see your life expand. We only get one life. Let's make it our best.
