[music] Getting ready this week for the Northeast Washington Fair. Getting closer and closer. It is a Tuesday. Good to have you with us here. I'm Eric Carpenter and this is K-C-V-L-K-C-R-K. Well, one of the things making headlines this year with the Northeast Washington Fair, it is a huge increase in entries. Well, the pig barn, well, they come out on top, they needed to expand the pig barn so they could accommodate the number of entries. Let's get more details about this year's pig barn at the fair. This is Ashley Pratt with the 2024 pig barn for the Northeast Washington Fair and the superintendent this year along with Garrett Nelson and this will be my third year running the pig barn. This year we asked for entries a little sooner which gave us the opportunity to make sure that we had the space for all of our entries in the Tri-County area, Stevens, Ponderay and Ferry. Typically, we have anywhere from 80 kids usually. Last year, I had 81 kids, I believe, and 96 hogs. I have 62 pens, so this year I had 101 kids and that meant I'd have at least 101 hogs with 62 pens and doubling up is sometimes optional if the pigs have been housed together but if they have not, I was in need of more pens and more space to put those so we had to gather up how many pens we needed. Looked like we needed at least 80 pens so I got 18 more pens built and I asked for the concrete to be expanded in the pig barn where there was sawdust so we got on that really super quickly and were able to accommodate that so the concrete was poor and my pens delivered for that expansion. We will be working on repositioning those new pens and seeing how the layout is going to work this year. You know, there's always room for changes as well. Our showing usually was always done on Friday all day for market and fitting and showing which can be extremely hard on the hogs plus the kids because that is a whole day of showing in up to two classes, sometimes three and four, and then you have callbacks. So these hogs have been there in any of those showmanship rounds and they keep getting callbacks. You know, they're constantly being pulled out to do more showing and not a lot of resting. So this year our showmanship will start on Thursday at 9 a.m. either market or fitting and showing that's usually up to my judge. I'm going to guess he or she is going to do market first. So Thursday, 9 a.m. is market most likely. And then Friday, 9 a.m. will be fitting and showing and that's when the youth are showcasing their knowledge and their showmanship of their hogs. I know a lot of hogs with all this heat have been struggling to gain weight so I know that there's going to be some underweight hogs at this year's fair and those don't get to go to sales. So if there's anybody that would be interested in helping out a kid that started a project and maybe needs to take it home and finish it out, to come seek me out at the fair and let me know so that I could get them in connection with a hog in another way if they're not able to go to the sale and buy one. I know that all the barns have pretty high capacity this year. So you're obviously going to have some that don't quite make that mark where they need to. And so it's always good if you're interested in any type of animal to reach out to those barn superintendents because they can get you in contact with a youth that might be able to sell you their project outside of the fair. Looking forward to this year, I know it's going to be a lot going on but at the same time we've made adjustments to make it hopefully run smoother for everybody involved so we'll can make it down. It's a big year for animals. Of course the rest of this week we're going to be hearing more about this year's Northeast Washington Fair here in Colville. A huge thank you to everyone who shopped during Saunders Furniture Inventory reduction sale. Your support made it a tremendous success but don't forget there's still time to enter our drawing for $500 in free furniture you have until August 31st to drop your entry. Thank you for being part of the excitement we couldn't have done it without you. Enter by August 31st for your chance to win. Saunders Furniture where amazing deals and great customers make all the difference. With the Northeast Washington Fair opening up on Thursday the countdown continues. We're getting closer and closer. You know the fair here in Colville has some very unique things. We talked with Lori Matlock about some of those. We've got all kinds of things going on down here. To our knowledge we are the only ones with a miniature city. Sandy Everson is my superintendent for Performing Arts and she does an amazing job and if you have not seen Kid City it's on the back side of the grandstands and it's a miniature town library and a jail and a store and a post office and it's always packed with kids. This year she's in need of two adult supervisors to help manage all the littles that go in there but that's an amazing place if you've never seen it. So I encourage you to stop by on the back side of the grandstands and take a peek and we've got swing dance lessons on Friday before the DJ. On Thursday remember that's Boise Day. Boise pays for the first 1,500 people that come through the gate and that's pretty exciting. We've had Providence and Delta Dental purchase some tickets for their workers for Saturday so we're excited to have extra people come down and then on Sunday Country Chevrolet we'll pay for everybody that comes through the gate and Kabul Toyota has been a super great supporter of the fair and you'll see them in the arena on Sunday working with all the kids and the fair association for the kids games that if you haven't seen the kids games and you're an adult they still have adult areas that you can participate in so come on down and enjoy. We've got the rodeo in the middle of the fair again this year with such a big hit and we're very thankful that Layton Dimit has brought that back for us. He's just a young kid that's very driven and he's got the rodeo starting at noon and it'll be over with about 2.30 and we're just excited to have the rodeo come back so your ticket into the fair gets you into the rodeo as well. It's not a separate deal come on down and grab something to eat and watch the rodeo. Sunday morning we have at 8.30 TJ Casey from Montana he's my friend that's a cowboy poet and he does the cowboy church in the morning on Sunday at 8.30 so coming in joy thank you. All right we're going to be talking more about the fair tomorrow of course the fair itself opens up on Thursday runs Thursday Friday Saturday and Sunday don't forget a lot of people the first 1500 or so get in free thanks to the folks at Boise Cascade for Thursday's fair events. The FBI and federal agents they are still at it they arrested a 47 year old man in Snohomish accused of attacking police officers during the January 6th incident in Washington DC. The criminal complaint filed last Thursday in U.S. District Court says Derek Nafsiger flew from Seattle to Baltimore got to Washington DC January 4th while crowds of Trump supporters and others marched on the Capitol to stop the certification of the presidential election prosecutors say the Washington state man and another man here from Washington Thomas Hoodo. They were seen in camera footage carrying a tethered U.S. flag pulling away police barricades shouting at officers and advancing with the crowd. So the FBI says Hoodo was captured on open source camera footage while terrorists saying it could get a lot worse we came in peace this time it could get a lot worse believe me we are well armed if we need to be well it's not clear how federal agents tracked down Nafsiger or how long it took to identify him or why they spent 43 months before arresting him the court documents show one of Hoodo's former co-workers helped the investigators identify him Hoodo charged in the federal criminal complaint with multiple misdemeanors including disruptive conduct despite the complaint. Hoodo apparently they say through at police a can of what appeared to be pepper spray he does not face assault charges Nafsiger made his first court appearance downtown Seattle the FBI agents in Seattle continue to investigate the case so far about 1500 people have been charged for crimes at the Capitol January 6th back 2020 more than a third of the charges are felonies for allegedly assaulting or impeding police so two more Washington state men being tracked down and arrested by the FBI. day in fact a very hot and muggy day yesterday touring the island of korfu it is the furthest north and the furthest west of the greek islands so korfu has seen well a lot of different nationalities controlling korfu it most recently and is probably permanently a part of greece furthest north and the furthest west of greece it has a definitive venetian aspect a lot of the buildings built in the 15 and 1600s and that is when the venetians were ruling korfu it's a great island if you are on a cruise it's one of these islands that really you can see a lot of it in one day i had a great guide yesterday and she knew a lot of the history of korfu as we went to a variety of churches and monastery and we're able to see really the historical aspects of korfu interesting part of greece over the past probably six years i've been to greece four times and had been there a couple times before their economy is absolutely terrible on korfu it was interesting to see a lot of half to three quarter completed houses that were being built but that's as far as they had gotten they weren't complete and they obviously had not been completed for quite a few years the trash the rubble the garbage along the side of the road a lot of it it was not a clean island it was not really pretty but they have a lot they had thousands and thousands and thousands of olive trees that was one of the big income items the olives would be pressed into olive oil and most every house would have at least five olive trees going to the tallest church on the island in fact the way that things were set up this church was finished in the 1600s the bell tower the steeple of this church nothing in town can be built higher so even if you were to build a new building part of the government regulations are you can't build your building where it would be any higher than the top of the bell tower of the church so was able to see the old fortress the new fortress the classic village of Corfu Old Town and also stop for an hour or so at a monastery that used to be quite a bit bigger than it is now apparently a real struggle to keep the existing monasteries in operation if you have an opportunity and you're going to Greece you might take one day and go to Corfu but it is not really a location that you're going to want to spend three or four days at one day maybe two but with going on a cruise just about right you start early in the morning and go until early evening and you're going to see all the highlights of Corfu you know focal pumping supply drills wells but did you know they can improve the flow of
