The FAN Morning Show

NHL Offseason Insight + Jays Future Discernment

The FAN Morning Show goes into its final hour with Ben Ennis and Brent Gunning diving into the NHL offseason. They start with the Oilers' impending decision this morning on two young players who signed offer sheets with the St Louis Blues. NHL Insider Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff shares his thoughts on the dilemma, the likelihood that Edmonton will not bring back either, and the Oilers' missteps that lead up to it, before taking a look at some other news around the league including the Habs' trade for Patrik Laine and the Leafs' situation with Jani Hakanpää. In the back end of the hour, the morning duo dive back into baseball and bring on Sportsnet’s own Ben Nicholson-Smith for his insight on the Blue Jays (27:10). The trio discuss if Chris Bassitt regrets his comments on the state of the Jays in 2024, the likelihood of Vlad Guerrero Jr. signing an extension this offseason and playing more third base moving forward, what the rotation might look like in 2025, and if calling up Joey Votto in September could hinder any of the young players getting an opportunity right now.
