Deborah and Barak sang a song of Israel’s conquest of the land, and of God’s power that was shown as He gave their enemies into their hands. Israel had rest for forty years, then turned again from God. The Midianites oppressed Israel. The people of Israel cried out again to God and He called Gideon to conquer the Midianites and lead Israel as their judge. Gideon destroyed the altar of Baal and the Asherah beside it and built an altar to the Lord for sacrifice. God confirmed the call of Gideon multiple times through the use of fleece and dew at the request of Gideon.
