This is your morning routine. Listen to respect about me. Cap and G hood. That's right. That's right. We're bad. Watch the show on Twitch. Follow ESPN 1000 Chicago. Stream the show on the ESPN Chicago app. And on in there. 100.3 HD2. And on ESPN 1000 Chicago. Now. No. No. No. David Kaplan and Jonathan Hood. Good morning, everyone. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Whoa. Ooh. God. Welcome in to the Captain David Morning Show. On ESPN 1000. And we're streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. With David Kaplan, Jonathan Hood with you. We've got Jay. We've got Jay Moore. And we've got you for three hour ride on this Tuesday morning with open phone lines for you. 312-332-ESPN-33237-3776. Our phone number. And my partner is back. Fresh from Las Vegas. As high as dressed, even if you didn't know he was in Vegas, you'd say hmm. That guy's dressed like he was just in Vegas. Sunshine. Bright colors. Happy. That's his third home, folks. He has one home, then he has a lake home and his third home, Las Vegas. That's his third home. Well, it's not a home. It's a happy place. It's your home. I love that place. I mean, you've been there a million times. It might as well be your home. You might as well go to Henderson and find yourself a home there in this surrounding area. I'll be back, Mindy. Go into the slots. The table's hot. I heard seven o'clock. Hmm. Take that. What an experience that was. So I signed up for the circa Great Partner of ours, paid my money for the survivor contest. Payouts now north of 10 million. Oh, wow. 10 million. That's more than yesterday. Yeah. My brother and I split the entry. And the guy said, yeah, by the time we close entries on the fourth, because the first game is the fifth, the Ravens and the Chiefs, he said, I think the prize is going to be 12 million. 12 million. Not what you do is you pick one game a week. If your team wins, you move on. If your team loses, thanks for coming, appreciate the donation. So we split the entry fee and you have to sign up in person. So I stayed at circus Sunday night, played blackjack late into the evening, got up, ran down, and then you have to hire a proxy to put your picks in each week. But you must sign up in person. That's the law in Nevada. There are a bunch of people waiting in line men and women signing up for that. And then we signed up for their super contest where you pick five games each week with the spreads they release on Wednesday. Most points, wins, top 100 places pay. I think the prize on that one is 10 million for a first place. So we're in the two. Yeah. Dude, let me tell you something. First of all, this circa. If your sports better, it's amazing stadium swim. I've heard of Dolan black talk about it. I've heard waddle and Soviet. It's insane. Oh my world's largest sports book between inside and outside. I went down there and I'm like, I got to go to the airport. Why can't I just lay in the sun all day or have a cocktail? There was baseball on during the day because there was a royals guardians double header. The Cubs are at 340 because they're playing out east. I bet the Cubs yesterday. So that hit. Back Cody Bellinger to get an RBI didn't realize they were going to get 18 of them. So you go there. And I highly recommend, you know, maybe too late for some people to, oh, I can't get there not next year, planet. Put a little group together, split the entry and it gives you a season full of enjoyment. I can understand that. I'll ask this to be clear because this is emanating from Las Vegas. If you win, you're bringing him, you're bringing home the majority of the dough, right? This is not based out of California, where you can only take take home about, you know, 25 bucks, right? Exactly. Tax to death. Correct. Right. No. Yeah. I believe I don't know this to be a fact if it's based on where I live. Or if it's the Nevada taxes, which they don't have a state income tax, but they do have other tax. Yes. That they'll take out. Yes. And so you walk in this massive sports book, and first of all, I went down there Sunday night at one in the morning, got done playing blackjack, it was one 30. There's a guy at the window. I'm like, you guys are open, he goes, this is the world's largest sports book. We're open 24/7 in the sports book, because a lot of the hotels, they'll shut down the sports book. The tables are open. Folks, I just want to make sure it's very clear. My partner down at three o'clock in the morning, central time, 1 a.m. Pacific. Yeah. It was like one 30, actually. Yeah. So it's three 30 in the morning. Up and early. Now here's what's great about this, right? The bets that you and Brett would make on the old, you know, fan duel, the horse races overseas. Right. Right. They're running. Aren't they at that time? Yeah. There's stuff going on. Yeah. There's other sports. You can sit down there like, yeah, I got some international bets. I'll keep my eye on. Easy. Absolutely crazy. And so you go down there and there's eight or 10 people at these tables, or I said, I need to find a proxy service. You pay them. They're licensed by the state. They have what's called errors and omissions insurance in case they screw up your pick. They're insured. If heaven forbid you would have won the content. And I found this guy, Tom, Tom's got a bunch of family back here. He owns I told my, I'll give you a plug. I paid him Vegas football proxy.com Tom Carroll, Vegas football proxy.com. So if you need a proxy, this guy was awesome. He's walking me through the whole thing. He made it super easy to sign up. Bam. We're in. Now the question is, do I take my brother and I are doing us together? Yeah. Do we take the bear a week one and you can't use a team a second time? They just have to win in the survivor. So after you're off the air, because cap came on from Vegas at 930 yesterday, Jesse, who's sitting in for you and I were going through some of the games. Because I think that at this, this is a great time for you to explain the survivor pool scenario and what's best. Do you take the obvious or do you take the hard bet? Because again, you can't keep, you can't keep taking the same game or the same team every week. It changes. Correct. Once you use a team, they're off the board for the rest of the season. Yeah. So we were just trying to figure out like, what would your strategy be? Like for instance, I could tell you without question that Buffalo's beating Arizona, Buffalo at home against Arizona, like Arizona is not winning that game. If you want to get Buffalo early, there you have it. If you just need to have a win in week one, there you go. It's just surviving advance. I know. But I know there's a strategy to it though, right? Correct. Correct. So we've looked at it since Cincinnati at home against Shays, not very good Patriots. But then you burn the bangles who are good teams, see, they're gone. Like I'll tell you for sure New Orleans at home at Mercedes Ben Stadium is defeating Carolina. No question about it. No doubt that New Orleans is winning that game. But again, you want to burn New Orleans now or later? Right. I don't know. Because New Orleans is horrible. This might be a pretty good time to use them actually. Here's the problem. So I've been in these. I got to week 17 in one of them. And then a few years ago, let's say it was like 2019, somewhere around that, I'm like, I just want to survive in advance. Team was a 14 and a half point favorite or 13 that I'm like, I've taken them. I don't care. I'm burning a good team. I want to get off to it. And they got upset. Half the pool was gone. Brutal. One. So it's going to take a lot of research. Got to know the injuries, who's the healthiest? Like those are the ones that Jesse and I chose. Unless you're trying to be cheeky and go Dallas on the road against Cleveland. Get out of there. Dallas will get the job done. I mean, you want to do that as a risk to risk Cleveland, you know, again, solid. This is make a break for the Browns, either they get to the playoffs and make some hay or Stefanski and that coaching staff's going to be fired. Correct. So I'm just saying like you could do that too, but I, for me, I just need a win. And I'm just taking what I think is a favorite to win. You just survive in events. That's why I thought, maybe I use the bear week one. Boy, imagine they lose the whole and then you're doubled up on your anger. Oh, God, cap, your team is Seattle to me. Who do they play? Seattle at home against Denver. They're the third biggest favorite in week one. They're a middle of the pack team. You're not going to be kicking yourself that you used early. They're the one for me. Seattle at this point is a five and a half point favorite in that game against Denver. Third biggest favorite on the board. That's it. I mean, it's tough. Like I need to lay up early. So then you take Cincinnati over New England at Cincinnati. Cincinnati is a nine point favorite against the Patriots. Right. Now I don't think the Patriots are going to upset them, but if they did, I can guarantee you out of the thousands of people in this contest, 60% of them are going to have Cincinnati. So my strategy has always been, let me find another game. And if heaven forbid, the upset happens immediately, you've chopped the legs out of a lot of that pool. How much money do you have on Baltimore, Shay, against Kansas City because how Kansas City has the jitters early, just like last year at the line. Honestly, I haven't looked at that game yet, but funny though, right? Yeah. At Kansas City, it gets Baltimore. That's the opener. Kansas City is a three point favorite. No, I'm low on the Ravens this year. That might be a chief spot for me. Possibly. Possibly. Where are the, or the chiefs caught flat footed like last year against the lion. Who had the lion last year, Cap? You had the lion last year. Oh God, flipped it flipped on everybody. The lions came out strong in that first game. It was amazing. Yeah. So. Yep. I remember I was in Reno for my son, bachelor party. Yes. We were talking. Yeah. Yeah. And we went to the casino in Reno, Nevada, every there's like 12 guys, it was awesome. And they're all like, we got to bet the chief. I mean, the, the lion, because I was telling them the lions are going to win this game. Yeah. And they did. Yeah. Beat their ass. Made a courderious Tony with some, he dropped off his hands and got picked off bad, bad game for them. So. So I guess, you know, and I think that what we're talking about here, Cap is, I think good advice for anyone that's going to be in one of these pools, especially a circle pool like this, because man, it's like, do I clip the black wire or the. The red wire, which one do I go? I need to lay up first. And then we move on from there. I just need the, what I think is the easy way for me. It's like a 16 over a one over 16 just to the second game. Give me over, please. Yes. Get to the sweet 16. And for those, again, just tuning in, it's a, this is straight up is not against the spread. Correct. The other contest where you pick five games, those are with the spreads they put out each Wednesday. And those spreads lock. So if Wednesday, the spread is lions minus six. And then four starters on the lions are knocked out in practice. The line does not change. It stays. It's a locked line. I was just made aware of a rule in this contest that I do not like and cap, I want to make sure you're aware of it. Tell me. Which one? The survivor or the five? The circus survivor. Okay. Thanksgiving and Christmas. Yeah. Those right now are considered their own individual weeks. What? Oh God. I don't know this here you go. This is from the rules sheet circus sports entries that have previously selected all eight Thanksgiving day and Black Friday teams are therefore unable to select any teams playing on Thanksgiving day or Black Friday will be eliminated at the conclusion of the Thanksgiving Black Friday contest week. Same goes for Christmas. So be careful choosing any of the teams that play Thanksgiving day or Black Friday or on Christmas day. Oh God. I didn't know that. Do not rid yourself of Kansas City and Baltimore and Houston early. They play on Christmas. Well, do not rid yourself of Detroit, Dallas, Miami or Green Bay early, well then then you know what that means, Cap, for Thanksgiving. I'll take the bear. Oh God. Right. At Detroit. Yes. That was confidence. That was your chest. But you wait for that day, Cap. Oh, I did not know this cap November. Big spot. Bears lion. Oh God. Wow. That's going to be a tough one. It'll come down to that, Cap. I'll take the bear. Oh no, Thursday, November 28th. Yeah. Yeah. That's not good. No, no, that's a tough one, Shay. That's a tough spot. But you got three games to choose from on Thanksgiving and one on Black Friday. Uh, yeah, one Black Friday, but those are packaged together. So it's full total games that week. Team Christmas is brutal. That's three games. You got to pick somebody from the three games. I like the Celtics. I hate. Right. I'm taking the nuggets. I'm going to go. Yeah. I'm going Golden State. I want to shake up the pool. He likes these seven o'clock or the Denver game as you've already had your Thanksgiving meal and just comatose. I like Denver. Take that. And he gives me a slice of pie next to the lemonade, a spiral away. Wow. See? So again, I paid my entries with my brother and paid my way out there. I just want to tell you as an unbiased person, you've got to go to circa. If you're a sports gambler, dude, that stadium swim is ridiculous. Those few games on Thanksgiving, that'll be a bitch for you. Yes. That ain't eat. That's not easy. No. That was a, that's the reason why they give the NFL Thanksgiving marquee games. They're no wallflowers now. No. That's going to be a tough content. I hope we're just still alive at that Thanksgiving. Man, if you're still in it, Thanksgiving, our guy, Tony Rizzo, he's in it from Cleveland. He had to fly there and do this a couple of weeks ago and sign up to see if this is, I'm wishing you and Dr. Brew great luck that you will be able to lock this in. But this is why the NFL has this because it is unpredictable. Yeah. Like if this is the NBA, I got you. Don't worry about it. Yeah. NBA. You know, get Sacramento out of there and just like, you know, some of the bad, some of the mediocre teams, the bad teams, I get, but the NFL, I, I, it's funny, you mentioned that it was three 30 in the morning. I'm like Monday morning hoodies not up yet. There was WNBA lines already up for Monday's games. Yes. I'm like, I should call hood. No, I can't wait. It's not yet. I will. Another hour. Yeah. And I would have been up. That's for sure. I'm just almost praying now that you make it to Thanksgiving. But the only teams you haven't selected for that week are the giants at Dallas or the Raiders at Kansas City. Oh, you just head in your hands and pick one of the two. Wow. Knowing cap, he'll get the bear done early, but the rest of that tough, difficult, difficult. That is a tough. So wait, it's bears at lions, Raiders at Kansas City. This Kansas City is Black Friday, giants, Cowboys, three 30, and then the seven 29 game is dolphins at Packers. If I were you, I would probably save the Cowboys for Thanksgiving. Oh, my God. The Chiefs. Chiefs Raiders is a rivalry game. Raiders might win that one. They beat him last year. Remember, Andy reads it. Thanks for beating our ass. We needed that. Yeah. That's a rivalry game. Who knows? Cowboys are hosting the Giants. Giants. That's what everybody's going to be waiting on. That's a tradition. Yes. They will might be fired by then. Okay. Might be fine. Hanging your head on Daniel Jones. Okay. Daniel Jones. He's almost done. Very good. Overpaid. Overloved. Wow. So anyway, that is my message to everyone. If you're in Vegas or you're thinking about it and you're a sports gambler, there's no better sports book than circa bears fans. How much would a slow start shake your confidence will address that coming up next on the cap and Jhood morning show? Your cap and Jhood, I'm back. Oh, big fan, man. Watch out, fellas. Chicago's home for sports, ESPN Chicago. It's a cap and Jhood morning show on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. Here is hoping that you're going to have a great Tuesday right here on Chicago's home for sports. So you know, it's funny we were talking about the schedule for the bears and talking about, you know, what cap should do as far as this, uh, circa, uh, survivor league. So cap, you know, that first game is against Tennessee, as we all know, we can't wait. We've had this date circle for a long time since the schedule came out. We said, look at the schedule and people that talk to you and me that are like Vikings fans, Packer fans, or not a fan of the bears, they look at our schedule and go, what is going on with your schedule? It's like it's set up like college. You got all of these teams are not in your division and you don't play a division game until mid November, like, yeah, it's set up for Caleb and it's set up for the bears. Yep. It's like it's, for Caleb's got to be like, now it's all the same to him. It's all tough because he says first time in the NFL, but it's got to read like his time at USC, where it's like we play all these teams and then now blank gets real because we're going to play Detroit in green Bay in Minnesota back to back to back to back and here we go. So I just think it's interesting but that Tennessee game, as you said earlier last week, it's paramount for the bears to get off to a great start. Paramount absolutely paramount that they win that game. I'm not the must win guy unless it can end your season, but it's about as close as it comes, you know, it, it is essential. You're playing a team that I believe you have more talent than. I believe you have the advantage at quarterback. It's in your building and weather should not be a factor in September. It's not like you're playing a driving snowstorm or brutally cold. Right. Let's go. You got to win that game. I don't care if it's three to two. You got to find a way that you're want to know when you get on the plane to Houston. Let's go. So the question that's on our screen is how much would a slow start for the bears shake your confidence. Okay. So I've never been this guy a cat that after one game, that's the end for the season because it's a long season, especially when it's baseball, it's like, hey, you off to a slow start doesn't mean that that's who you are at the end of the season unless you're the white Sox. But when it comes to the Chicago Bears, yes, I think it's great for Caleb Williams and Roman Dunes. And these bears to be able to put it together at home to beat Tennessee when it shake my confidence. Well, right now it's a nine. How much would my confidence be shaking to a seven if they lose the game? I still believe in the football team. Once I have set my one lost record up in my mind for the bears, 10 wins, 11 wins, nine wins, whatever, I'm locked into it. I'm not shaking after a loss. So to me right now, it's a nine when they win. Oh my God. Here we go. Yeah. So that's the question. He's asking like, how much would a slow start shake your confidence? Even if Caleb heaven forbid didn't play well, other than serious injury in week one to a key player, like remember when Erlacher dislocated his thumb in the first half of the first game of the season to the Packers. And he said, I'm going back in and the doctor said, no, you're not, because if you do any further damage, you might lose the use of your thumb for the rest of your life. You're done. And they had to do surgery and he was done. That was it. It's like that would be a devastating thing to lose a key player at the start of the season devastating. But if they go out, they're reasonably healthy coming out of it. And they're want to know. Let's go. Yeah. That's it. But Shane's putting pain the scenario in a world in which if the bears lost the Titans, how much they would shake my confidence, well, listen, they're all going to be tough titans and then you go on the road for two at the Texans at the Colts coming back home against the Rams. That's your September schedule. Okay. Cap, I expect them to be able to go at least three and one, at least that's my hope for them to go three and one and for the offense to percolate and for the defense, the no name defense as we know them now, would you call them, Jamore, it's, it's sweat and the droplets, did you say? The drips. Yes. Yes. What in the drips? Yes. Pretty good. Really get after the quarterback. I really, really think this is a super talented roster better than we've seen in a long time. Yeah. Because even if you go back to 18, Caleb's better than Mitch, obviously. That team added Khalil Mack Montez sweat. He's that version. He may not be the national, the NFL defense player of the year that Khalil Mack was early in his career. But if you look, this defense may rival that one, may, we'll see. The lovey Smith Bears that we're around a lot, they don't want them to be that good. Correct. Like Alex Brown Lance, would you stop? Yeah. O6 is the best defense other than the 85, see, they don't want that this defense. And again, I say the no name defense and hopefully they will have a name outside of Montez sweat, but they, these old bears, a lovey Smith bear, they don't want this defense to be that good on that level. We had a caller last week that said that this had this could rival 85 bears. Well, you got to get past peanut Tillman and Lance and Alex and her lacquer and Hunter Hill and Meyer and those guys first, out of Walla goolay, you got to get past those guys first. Really? Because those guys were swarming. That's the reason why the bears even went to the Super Bowl against the Coles themselves. That defense carried it. They were scoring for the offense during that time, as we recall, correct. Rec Grossman was maybe the 11th most important person on that team. So Jay Moore, you and I are old enough to remember the '06 season, the year they went to the Super Bowl. Shea was a baby back then. Shea, look up the box score of the Bears at the Arizona Cardinals. Oh, God. In 2006, bears are getting crushed, all in crutes gives an insanely uplifting speech. They said it's one of the best speeches they've ever heard. Hold my beard, Jason Hayward. And I believe I'm right on this. The Bears came all the way back and didn't score an offensive touchdown. Am I right? Believe that's right. Shea, look that up. I'm positive. They didn't. Devin Hester returned a punt. There was at least one pick six. Yes. Yes. And there's one 24/23. Is that the they are who we thought they were game? Yes. Yes, it is. Rest in peace. Denny Green. Yes. That's how strong that defense was. I was at Dittka's restaurant with my buddy Phil and a bunch of guys that were watching the game and they're at halftime. They all want to leave. Oh, this is horrible. Get the check. Let's go. I'm like, relax. I've got another half a football here. And boom. Here they come. Here they come. Yeah. Yes. Looking about a Mike Brown three yard defensive fumble return for a touchdown. Yep. We're talking about Charles Timo with a 40 yard defensive fumble return for a touchdown. Yep. Devin Hester with his 83 yard punt return for a touchdown. Yep. Yeah. Bears win 24/23. All that in the second half. Did not get an offensive touchdown. It came all the way back. Yeah. That's what you're looking for when that's a team effort. Yes. They melt down by a den of green. The bears are what we thought they were. What we thought they were. We played them in preseason. Who the hell takes a third game in a preseason? Like it's bull. We played them in a third game. Everybody played three quarters. The bears are who we thought they were. That's why we took the damn field. Now, if you want to crown them, then crown the ****. But they are who we thought they were and we let them out the hook. That was so great. So when you break that down, Kat, when you break it down, that first half offensively, he goes, they got nothing offensively. Nothing. You know, exactly what we thought they were. Then the second half, you need the offense. The defense and the special teams whooped your ass. And that was all for Denny Green. Fired. Yep. Shortly after that. See you later. Fired. Thanks for coming, Denny. I don't think people understood what he meant. But then when you think about it, he's like, look at their offense. We got this. And they did 20 nothing at the half cap, 20 to nothing. Unbelievable. And the bears win that game 24, 23. That's the kind of team effort I want to see from this Chicago Bears, this iteration of the Chicago Bears. Same here. I was like, I was like an offensive touchdown person. I understand. I understand. I would like to not have to come back from down that multiple scores. But it's like, you know, Michigan State, the two seed in the tournament is losing the some horrible team in the turn and they find a way to win. Yes. We just lose to middle Tennessee State. Me. Shay. Oh boy. Shay, this outfit, the Chicago Bears, we have been a big 10 team for decades. Yes. That's who we've been. Yes. linebacker. You're running back you. That's who we've been. That's what the Bears are. That's why they're so woven into the fabric of the Midwest because that reminds me what I watch on Saturdays, terrible offense and strong defense in a running game. Right. We were Iowa. That's what we've been. For decades. So, I mean, again, biggers can't be choosers, especially during that time. Shay, they barely were able to get past, you know, some, some teams offensively, but the defense was able to score for them and flip the field. As I said, my hope is that if the Bears struggle offensively at times, that the defense could be that opportunistic, whatever it takes, there's a reason why there's three phases. If you rely on the arm of the quarterback 100% of the time, you're not going to win 100% of the time, clearly, because other people have to make plays. Yep. Completely. And in this case, the offense was so horrendous in that game that the defense and the special teams had to pick up the slack. Yeah. We'll take care of it. Yeah. Ask Waddle, by the way, best wishes to Waddle, I think he's going to be a grandfather today. Waddle said they were coming off the field when he was playing, and Richard definitely get off the field. We'll take care of the scoring, too. Just don't turn it over. That's right. So it was, man. 3, 1, 2, 3, 3, 2, 3, 7, 6, our phone number, what would it take to shake your confidence in the Bears? We feel pretty good about it, but what if that's always a question mark because of this unpredictable, national football league? Let's go. Rob Williams spoke to Waddle and Sylvie. You'll hear from Caleb next on the cap and Jhood Morning Show. Checkmate 1-6, Lam, you're suppression on target. That's why I see him in my shot shot or no shot with cap and Jhood on ESPN 1000 and ESPN Chicago app. That's why I see him in my shot. Good morning and welcome in to the cap and Jhood Morning Show on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app with David Kaplan. Jonathan Hood with you, now time for a shot or no shot. Here. Shae Norling. Shae. Good morning, boys. How are we feeling? I'm a hard knock. Tuesday. Feeling great. My partner's back. You need to answer a question before you get started with a shot or no shot. So Jesse brought this up. Oh, God. What was the question that he had, Shae, yesterday? Jesse. Is it better to start 4-0 or 0-4 in the preseason? And you were just saying something, I don't even, like the preseason record is what it is. It doesn't matter. The real games kick off in two weeks. But you bring it up the fact that nobody's yelling up there because they started 4-0. Boy, I hope that's not true because if they're all telling themselves how great of a job they're doing, they're going to get rocked in week one. Yeah. I don't think from what I know, there's plenty of profanity and plenty of challenge being put forth by the coaches. Yes. Oh, I'm sure. Just doesn't like you to hear it on hard knocks. And that's fine. I told you. My neighbor came and goes, "I heard you guys." He goes, "No profanity. You want more?" And he goes, "I'm watching you with my 11-year-old for the first time." Well, yeah. It's rated G. Exactly. It should be. I just say that, Shae, I don't know if anyone's throwing a table or chair around through this preseason. Like what I'm saying is, I don't know if it's a level of Coach Armstrong. That's built up frustration. You can tell that that was a bad camp. You can tell. And with this group, I think that there's got to be yelling. It's got to be a motion because it's football. I just don't know if it's the level of Coach Armstrong there. I'm talking about how many-- how many yell-- how many gold jackets do you have? That was awesome. That's what I'm saying. I don't know if it's at that level yet. I'd like to see it if it is though. Let me tell you something. That was spectacular. That's what hard I'm-- Like gold jackets you have. Oh, God. That's a player who just sit there and you take it. There's nowhere to go. There's nowhere to hide it. You just sit there and go. Yes, sir. It's yeah. 4-0 or 0-4 for the Bears. As far as they're pre-seasoned. I don't care. Just wondering what makes you feel better. If they went 0-4, would that make you feel better about the season? No. I don't think so. Just being able to show that you can do some things on both sides of the football and special teams, that matters. But the idea, the old adage of, oh, you got to save some of those wins for the regular seat? Well, it's all glorified practice. Correct. If you're just on a good side of it, I think that's a good thing. Yeah, it does not matter to me. So let's go. All right, Jay. Here's shot or no shot. All right. Bears, Twitter. Caught. Fire. Last night. After the Cowboys made CD Lam the second highest paid non-quarter back in NFL history, some multiple talking heads. They started wondering if Dallas eventually would have to trade Mike Parsons. They have to pay CD now, $36 million a year. They still have to pay DAC. That's probably going to be $60 million a year or more. Where does Mike Parsons fit into their cap sheet? So Bears fans started taking this and running, talking about King Polls, getting on the phone, making a trade to get Mike Parsons. Caleb Williams even retweeted a post saying Ryan Polls should go out and trade for Mike Parsons. Look, I don't think he's going to be traded. It would be insane for the Cowboys to move their best defensive player. He's 25 years old, premium position, arguably the best defensive player in all of football. The cost would be in my estimation, minimum three first round picks plus stuff. Shot or no shot, you would pay that price for Mike Parsons. That's a no shot. So I said yesterday, two number ones, would I think about it? Yes, I would, because if this team is what we think they are, Caleb's what we think he is, this team's going to be picking in the 20s. Three number ones and more stuff? No. And I got to pay them how much? 35 million a year? In that range, yeah. Yeah, no. It's a no shot. Because all of a sudden then, I can't re-sign some combination of Kevin Jenkins, Keenan Allen, who else do I have coming up for free TJ Edwards and he's got one year left. How many more on Darnell Wright? Two? He's got two more after this. No, three more after this. Three more, okay. With the option here. I got to pay Kyler Gordon. I've got to pay Jaquan Brisker. No. Three and stuff and 35 to 40 million a year? No path. Yeah, that's a no shot for me. And I know that we're talking about arguably a top five player. You want to go as far as 10? That's fine, Cap. I just, that's a little bit too rich for my blood. At some point, you have to be able to roll the dice on what you have. You got to develop young players, but also, if you want to be able to plug in a pass rusher, I think you can do it for less than what you do for my comparisons, I think. I know he's elite. I understand that. But still... Now, if you told me, "Oh my God, breaking news, the bear's got him." Yeah, I'll be... Sure. Driving the bus right down the middle of State Street. Sure. I'm gonna be thrilled. It's not my money. But would I give up three and more and the money? You said, "Okay, he wants to be a bear. He's gonna work with you on the deal, and it doesn't have to be top dollar." Like he's a DJ, more type guy. And it's only two number one. I guess I could be persuaded beyond that three. Three. No. One of my sonny Weaver Jr. in Cleveland? No. Yeah, that would be a no shot. Now, of course, we're going to find out more about this shade coming up tonight on HardKnocks. As you will see, Ryan Polls picking up the phone to make a call to Dallas just to find out what's going on with... Hello. Hello. Who's this? This is Chicago Bears, man, how you doing? So yeah, we will find out more about that tonight. Check. Let's talk to you about Michael Parson. Click. That'd be it. I'm sure people are like, "Well, how are you getting to three first round picks?" The Mac deal was what, a second and another, two firsts, a second and another pick? Yes, sir. And he was two years older than Michael Parson's, and you could make an argument that Parson's is better. Like... Yes. That's where it's going to cost you more. I don't know. Parson's is better. 25-year-old. 25-year-old. Mac was great, but so was Parson's, and he's 25 years old. I understand. It's just not for me. No, I get it. You were trading for Mac in your five of his career. You'd be getting Parson's in year four with a year left on his rookie day. Like there's just no way he's getting moved. The cost would be enormous. They paid lamb though. Holy is the lamb, bomb, bomb. They paid him. Now we can get that off of our sports lives. And by the way, Mac was traded to the Bears. I'm cut down day. What day is today? Uh-oh. Come down day. Hello. Hello? Hello. Here's Shane Orler. Montes Swett sat down with Jason Leisure and talked about the Bears being a huge upgrade to his situation in Washington. He was also singing the praises of Matt Eberfloose. Swett talked about Eberfloose as a play caller, allowing guys in this defense to move around, play different positions, be a little more versatile and create mismatches, said he was never given the opportunity to do that in Washington. I always thought Ron Rivera was a pretty decent head coach. The idea that Swett was not allowed to be a more versatile defender there is kind of shocking to me. Shot or no shot, it is time for us to embrace that Matt Eberfloose as a good coach. That's a shot. No shot. That is a shot, absolutely. His players cannot stop talking about accountability, motivating him. Now he's got to win. He absolutely has to win football games and I think if he was sitting here with us, he would say, "Cap, hoodie, I got to win football games. I get what I do means I am judged on 17 Sundays and how we do. I get paid a lot of money, I live a great lifestyle, but I have to win football games." But I do think he's been treated at some level, it got over the top, it did. Because as much as I love Ryan Polls and you know I do, I know you do, I've heard Sylvia talk about him, waddle, calm your everybody, he has the same record as Matt Eberfloose because he hired them, they're joined together. We think Ryan's done an amazing job but until they go out and start winning football games, those guys are tied together. So yes, he's got a lot to prove but I do think it got a little over the top here. Yeah, I think it's a no shot. We're in big boy market, we're in Chicago and we should be able to look at that one loss record and say it's not good enough. And so there will never be a time cap unless you could show me that this year will be a Super Bowl Championship season that the previous two seasons was good enough because it's not, it was not. I'm not saying it is. No, no, I'm speaking for me, me as a fan and what I'm telling you is, is that from my standpoint, Matt Eberfloose besides the one loss record also was not very good in clock management and we documented that every single game, we talked about things that didn't go their way because of the fault of Matt Eberfloose. And again, he was at arm with the best talent because we knew that the Bears were rebuilding towards something. However, along the way, Matt Eberfloose made some missteps. I'm sure all coaches do, but I'm a Bears fan. This is what I make sure I keep my focus on. Matt Eberfloose has not proven that he's a good head coach, what we've proven is that he's very good as a defensive coordinator and also has good bedside manner and the players like him. That's great. But the bottom line is for those that are working eight and ten hour days, they want to know as they go through their day and turn us on, even for an hour to find out, is my team any good or is it in the middle or is it going in the wrong direction? And at this point in time, again, the roster says it's going in the right direction. But again, Eberfloose has a lot to prove, doesn't matter if whether or not he's likable or not. You know, you talk about their tied together, polls and Eberfloose, well, can I just tell you, Ryan polls has done more for the football team and Eberfloose has done. There's no question because of the movement. I'm sure Eberfloose had to green light a lot of this stuff and say, yeah, I agree with that. Point is though, is that that's polls at the controls. He's done more than Eberfloose has done. No question. But the bottom line is they both get judged on their record and they both have the same record. And again, did Matt make mistakes? Yeah, those have been documented. He's also been working on trying to be better at them. So we'll find out. He has to win football games. He has to. Great. All right. We've all been wondering if Vailin's valus Jones would make the team or be cut. I was reading Bill Barnwell's ESPN article about trade candidates on cut down day. How many days did it take for you to get through the article three all weekend? Vailus actually made the cut here from Bill Barnwell as a trade candidate. Barnwell says a team could offer a late round pick for valus's potential upside as a rotational running back and kick returner. Not or no shot. Trading valus Jones for literally anything would be a win for Ryan polls. Um, yeah, I mean, if you're telling me I'm giving him away for a seven and somebody really believes he could contribute, why can't he contribute on my football team? If someone really believes they can contribute, they probably give more than a seventh. Like he's not going to be a starter anywhere. He's going to be the third running back on your roster and a special teamer. Right. But can I turn him into my version? I'm not calling him him. So don't say I am. Why can't I try and turn him into my version of cordero Patterson? Are you saying that he's not him? He's not cordero, cordial Patterson's a multi-time pro bowler, right? Correct. And he's gotten big contracts and free agency, but valus showed me something that cut back run for 39 yards for a touchdown. That was pretty damn impressive. If they believe that they can extract that out of him, I would take a shot at keeping him. If they're like, we just got to get him off the roster, then move him. Get whatever you can. That's where I'm at. Can the answer to your question be this team is too good. This roster is too good. We just let him be someone else's project and we'll take whatever you want to give for him. It's like Tyson Miller in Seattle. They DFA'd him just because they had too many arms. He's not bad. He's been great for the Cubs. How about we talk about it like this? Cap, if you were to say we can trade valus Jones, who do you replace him with on that roster that's as talented as who has the potential talent as valus Jones? Look at it from that standpoint. If you think that valus Jones is good because he's multifaceted, special teams guy, could be a backup running back, that kind of thing, a special set of plays. If you think he's that special and you say, well, we can get rid of him. Anyone else in that roster have his skill set? Anyone that's on the scrap heap have his skill set? Not that I'm aware. Now let's see who gets cut. I think the Browns just released this morning, but they're hoping to get him back on the roster. A kick returner, wide receiver kick returner that some people feel like would be a good fit for the Bears as a return man. Glenn Milburn, is that him? Dennis Gentry. Oh, good. Who was David Williams? David Williams. He's the one who returned at 95 and overtime to be Detroit and Detroit. Thanks, giving. Yeah. I would say, Captain, I mean, that's how I would answer the question. And the answer is no. There is nobody that has that kind of speed. No matter how old he is, he really is. No one has that kind of speed. And to me, he's not expendable on the roster. Who else can be do what he does? So I would say, even though I don't think that he's a special player, but who else has that kind of speed that you could find anywhere? Right. That's available. Well, he just, he gives me various ways I can use him. So that's why like, so no, yeah, no, I'm not. If you count me, someone calls me and goes, here's a fourth round pick. Yeah, I probably would consider that. It's a pretty high pick. A seven? Like a conditional seven? No. I'd rather have it. That's how I look at it. You find somebody that's better than him at his position that could do what he does and more? Sure. Yes. But at this point in time, he can stay as long as he doesn't put, he can give you negative yardage hand off to valus, oh, he gets pummeled minus six. Okay. That's horrible. So correct. I'm just telling you when he's out, there's a Scarlet letter cap is like, I'm getting the ball. When he gets out there, he doesn't need a number. I'm getting the ball. Should be on the front of his jersey. Correct. It's telling you. Correct. All right. We've got around the NFL coming up. Don't forget Albert Breyer also scheduled to join us as well as we talk football and the bears on the cap and Jhood morning show. If you missed something, get the podcast on the ESPN Chicago app. Jack and Jhood are back on Chicago's home for sports. ESPN Chicago. Nick Bolz sucks. He sucks. I'm just a fan. I'm not a football about here. I love the Green Bay Packers. The guy is broke, but there he goes. This is not Detroit, man. This is a Super Bowl. I love winning. He starts to come at a home. This is a really thickly built guy. I mean, what's the answer you're looking for on these things here? And it's time to go around the NFL, right here on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app with you till 10 o'clock. The Mike Greenberg at 10 followed by black and a dollar in for Carmony Yurko 12 to 3. One lin slowly two 30 to six 30 right into White Sox Rangers baseball at six 30 around the NFL, a special one with Shane Orlick. It is a special one, Hood, because your favorite piece of the year. Finally, with a significant delay. Thank you, Mike Sando is out. The quarterback tears Mike Sando talks to executives around the league pulls them and offers up the quarterback tears. So good. It's my favorite column of the year. Oh, I love that. I love a quarterback tier list. I want to find out how well you guys know Mike Sando. Tier one. I've never met him. Tier one quarterback. Well, we talk about this piece every year. So I'd hope you have an idea of what this is going to look like. I do. A tier one quarterback can carry his team each week. The team wins because of him. He expertly handles peer passing situations. He has no real holes in his game. There are three tier one quarterbacks. Who are they three tier one quarterback? So it's three. So it's not Mahomes by himself. It's not Patty Mahomes is one. Yep. Uh, Josh Allen, Josh Allen is two Josh Allen. He is in the top three, but he is not two. Well, I mean, top three. I mean, I wasn't doing it in order. And one more top three guy. Josh Allen or Josh Allen and Mahomes are in. We got one to get. Would it be Aaron Rodgers? No. Don't answer for me. I didn't pick it. I'm talking to hoodie here. Mute yourself. Did they put Lamar in there? You think? No. So Lamar probably to be tier two. Jack. Oh, God. His numbers are insane. Oh, my God. Okay. For me, it's Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, and then and Patrick Mahomes and one, two, three. Go with hoodie on that burrow. That's correct. Joe Burrow is the other quarterback in tier one. Well done. That's a good call by you hoodie. But still it's a projection. Let's see it now. He's taking a team to a Super Bowl. Okay. But show it again. Let's see it again. It was hurt last year. He's when he's healthy. He just looks the party. He's fantastic. No question. He does. You heard what I said about this last week, Shay. I don't know if the Bengals will give the infrastructure for Burrow to get back up there again. I don't know that. I know he's great. I don't know if he'll get back to the Super Bowl with that outfit again. I'm sure Jamar Chase saw the news cross on CD Lambin went, uh, yeah. Mr. Brown. Yeah. Jamar Chase. And then what happened? Click. Oh hello. Hello. Here's Shay. Norland. Tier two quarterbacks. There are 11 of them. All right, Shay. I'm sorry man. It's taking up a sando in the executives around the league. All right. A tier two quarterback. Can carry his team sometimes, but not as consistently. He can handle pure passing situations in doses and or possess other dimensions that are special enough to elevate him above tier three has a whole or two in his game. Okay. So let's just put him all in a bag here. Cap. CJ Strauss. Yeah, be on that list. Right. Tier two. Yeah. Tier two. Okay. Lamar has got to be on that list. Mar is tier two. Dak's going to be that list. Dak is tier two. About your guy. Aaron Rodgers has to be tier two. Aaron Rodgers is tier two checks in at seventh. Okay. What about your guy in the green bay? Oh, Jordan loves absolutely good enough to be in that list. Jordan love checks in. I'm interested too high to low 14th tier two here too. That's fine. We've got to prove it again. But how many more we got left five six seven I think seven. Okay. So just don't Herbert in there Lawrence in there Herbert is in there. Lawrence is not a drop about that. No Trevor Lawrence. Do we know Taylor hurts in that spot? Can we throw him in there in the tier two? I think we can. You can. He's tier two. Okay. Can you send anybody who you said Rodgers, right? Yes. Dak Lamar. Two is not in tier two. Oh, the big bag. Yeah. Very highly paid to very lucrative quarterbacks not in tier two Trevor Lawrence and two Kirk is at 13. So that like Stafford and like Stafford is here at five, you know, Gino is not here. You're missing one now. Two. We're missing. In fact, actually. Kirk Cousins, right? Yep. Yeah. You said Stafford? Yep. Jalen Hertz is not in there. Jalen Hertz is in there. He's in there. So we're missing three tier twos. Three tier twos. Um, let me. One. I'll help you out a little bit. One in the division. In Minnesota? Wait. In our division? In our division. Oh, Jared, yes. That 10 ahead of Jordan Love and Jalen Hertz. Well, because he's proven more cap. You already mentioned one of them. There's our insane kid back Dak Prescott, Brock Purdy and Brock Purdy, round out tier two. There you go. Okay. Next one. Little rich for Brock Purdy for me. Tier three, a quarterback is a legitimate starter, but needs a heavier running game and or defensive component to win a lower volume dropback passing offense suits him best. The top two you already got to an Trevor Lawrence check in at 15 and 16 to start tier three. Four. A lot. Okay. Keep going. Okay. Tier two though. Dino Smith's in there. Geno Smith is at 20 in tier three. Okay. Um, just throw in the rest of them like Deshawn Watson tier three's 18 and like, uh, little guy. Oh, Kyler Murray. Kyler Murray. It's 17. It sucks. He just sucks. How about the other? No, it's just, it's not that good. It's just like that's not going to work. Just not good. How about the other Lincoln Riley little guy hoodie? Oh, Baker. Yeah. And 19. He's better than that. But okay. I agree. I think that. Listen, if I'm making the list, Baker's tier two to me. I love this guy. I can't quit it. If you were the Browns and you could redo it when you go out pass on giving up all we gave up. Yeah. And I'll keep Baker. Yeah, you wouldn't. What about? So then it's like car and, uh, oh, dare car, dare car 20 into your three. Yep. And then there's one more. Russ. Yep. Russell Wilson falling all the way to 22, but stayed into your three fair. Fair enough. Oh, so Russell Wilson slash Justin fields at 22. Justin's not there. What do you mean? Oh, shot. It's going to give 51% of the damn snaps. Take that. The sando is going to have the cult outside his house. Go ahead. Uh, tier four is the final tier. Sando ranked quarterback could be an unproven player, not enough information for voters to classify or a veteran who ideally would not start all 17 games. Okay. So that's Caleb. Yeah. The rookies are not counted on the list. Oh, no. Okay. Sam Darnold. Sam Darnold is 29 of 30. Bryce Young. Bryce Young's 28 of 30. Daniel Jones. Daniel Jones at the very top of the list, 23 of 30. Okay. Was I told you, not very good. Yeah. Yeah. The 23. I ain't not very good. Giants, uh, dumps the fire. They are disaster. Dumps the fire. The back after this. Uh, wow, who else are we missing here? You said no rookies. So that means Jay, Jane Daniels, no. Bryce Young, you said yes. Will Levis is a rookie. Will Levis is not a rookie. He's on the list at 26th. My Mayo King. Oh, yes. Yes. Yes, that's my fault. Mayonnaise King. And he eats the banana with this peel on, just a weird guy. So like brother Brissette, is that because that qualify or? Dead last at 30. Anthony Richardson. Anthony Richardson's here, tied with Will Levis at 26. And we miss anybody? Uh, Justin Fields is 24 and Gardner Minshoo's 25 and that's the full list. Gardner Minshoo. Okay. All right, that makes sense, but they had brother Brissette at the bottom, huh? Very last quarterback ranked horrible preseason play kind of, uh, showed that too. He sticks. Gardner or Justin, if you had to win again. Gardner. Oh, yeah. He almost led the Colts to the playoffs last year. I agree. I think honestly, there's an argument he should be in tier three. He started a bunch last year and almost took him to the playoffs. Yeah. One of my bigger disagreements with the list, and I love the tier list. We'll come back to this tomorrow, um, just, we'll just come back and review it again. So I'm hearing Beijing checked in at 31, he's better than half the starters in the league. Better. He's in the top 32, I said. Take that. Who? All right. Stanking things from Sando, Daniel Jones or Tyson Beigeon, Daniel Jones. Yeah. He's one of road playoff game, took a team to the playoffs. I, I have to put him there first till Tyson proves it. Justin Fields, I know the answer. I think we'd all take Beijing. No question. And the fact of the matter is, and I'll say it again, I think I said it to you on the year the other day. No, I told you off the year. They wanted, or I should say, Gatsy and his offensive staff wanted to stick with Beigeon when Justin was healthy last year, when he came back from injury. Now our offense runs better. Yep. That's a fact. Yes, I would take Beijing over Justin. I think that Justin was ready after the third week he was off, and they gave Beijing an extra game. They did. That's what I understand. That is correct. Okay. You're well sourced. Okay. That's what I understand. Justin, take another week. They would have liked him to take the whole season off. Push game to shove their Nancy Kerrigan thing. Yeah. That's why I do it. That's why I would sign Beijing to an extension now before he proves that he's worth a bunch of money, because God forbid there's an injury and he plays his ass off. I want both guys locked up. Brissette or Beigeon? You say Beigeon? Yes. I say Beigeon. Yes. It's fair to put him against Richardson or Levis, two young guys with starter upside. I would rather play the two of them if I had them, because they could legit be starting quarterbacks in the league. Brice Young kind of the same deal, even though I'm mostly out. Sam Darnolder, Tyson Beigeon. Beigeon. Beigeon. And by the way, I'm digging my heels in, Shay. This guy here, he gets one bit of a kernel of an opinion from Alex Brown about Anthony Richardson and he thinks that he's going to be all world. Who does? You. No, I've always given the credit to Alex Brown for that. I said Alex Brown feels that way. You and her like, I'm telling you, he's not going to be the guy. I'm telling you, athlete yes, but I don't think that I saw him in Florida, an incredible athlete. I just don't think that he's a quarterback for the future. I'll be glad to be wrong about it. I just don't see it. I didn't like what I saw in college. Can't debate the bad injury last year, of course, hoping you bounce back, but not against the bear because that's week three. Yeah, it's correct. All right. I don't think that he's the guy, Shay, you watch Florida football. I was with you, you know, before the draft I was with you, I'm kind of in on him though. No, you'll see it. I told you that guy at the blackjack table who told me Justin can't process and after a year, you're going to realize it and he'll be gone and he was right. He loves Anthony Richardson loves. We'll see. Albert Breyer, scheduled to join us next as we talk bears in the NFL on the cap and jayhood morning show.
