[Music] Good morning and welcome in to the Captain Jhood Morning Show on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app with David Kaplan, Jonathan Hood with you now time for a shot or no shot. Here's Shae Norling, Shae. Good morning boys, how are we feeling on a hard knocks Tuesday? Feeling great, my partner's back. You need to answer a question before you get started with shot or no shot. So Jesse brought this up. Oh god. What was the question that he had Shae yesterday, Jesse? Is it better to start 4-0 or 0-4 in the preseason? And what do you were just saying something? I don't even, like the preseason record is what it is. It doesn't matter if the real games kick off in two weeks. But you bring it up the fact that nobody's yelling up there because they started 4-0. Boy, I hope that's not true. Because if they're all telling themselves how great of a job they're doing, they're going to get rocked in week one. Yeah, I don't think from what I know there's plenty of profanity and plenty of challenge being put forth by the coaches. Yes. Oh, I'm sure it just doesn't like you to hear it on hard knocks. And that's fine. I told you. My neighbor came and goes, I heard you guys. He goes, "No profanity. You want more?" And he goes, "I'm watching you with my 11-year-old for the first time." Well, yeah, it's rated G. Exactly. It should be. I, um, I would just say that Shae, I don't know if anyone's throwing a table or chair around through this preseason. Like, what I'm saying is, I don't know if it's a level of coach Armstrong. That's built up frustration. You could tell that that was a bad camp. You could tell. And with this group, I think that there's got to, it's got to be yelling. It's got to be a motion because it's football. I just don't know if it's the level of coach Armstrong there. Talking about how many, how many yellow, how many gold jackets do you have? That was awesome. That's what I'm saying. I don't know if it's at that level yet. I'd like to see it if it is though. Ah, let me tell you something. That was spectacular. That's what I'm saying. Oh, God. As a player, you just sit there and you take it. Where you got it, you get, you just know where to go. There's nowhere to hide. You just sit there and go. Yes, sir. It's, yeah. Uh, 4-0 or 0-4 for the Bears, as far as their preseason. I don't care. Just wondering, like, what is, what makes you feel better? Like, if they went 0-4, would that make you feel better about the season? No, I don't think so. Yeah. Just being able to show that you can do some things on both sides of football and special teams, that matters. But the idea, the old adage of, oh, yes, save some of those wins for the regular seat. Well, it's all glorified practice. If you're correct, if you're just on a good side of it, I think that's a good thing. Yeah, it does not matter to me. So let's go. All right, Jay, here's shot or no shot. All right, Bears Twitter caught fire last night. After the Cowboys made CD, Lamb, the second highest paid non-quarter back in NFL history, some multiple talking heads. They started wondering if Dallas eventually would have to trade Mike Parsons. They have to pay CD now. $36 million a year. They still have to pay DAC. That's probably going to be 60 million a year or more. Where does Mike Parsons fit into their cap sheet? So Bears fans started taking this and running, talking about King polls, getting on the phone, making a trade to get Mike Parsons. Caleb Williams even retweeted a post saying Ryan polls should go out and trade for Mike Parsons. Look, I don't think he's going to be traded. It would be insane for the Cowboys to move their best defensive player. He's 25 years old, premium position, arguably the best defensive player in all of football. The cost would be in my estimation, minimum three first round picks plus stuff shot or no shot. You would pay that price for Mike Parsons. That's a no shot. So I said yesterday, two number ones, would I think about it? Yes, I would because they're going if this team is what we think they are. Caleb's who we think he is. This team is going to be picking in the 20s. Three number ones and more stuff? No. And I got to pay him how much? 35 million a year? In that range, yeah. Yeah, no. It's a no shot. Because all of a sudden then, I can't resign some combination of Kevin Jenkins. Keenan Allen. Who else do I have coming up for free TJ Edwards? And he's got one year left. How many more on Darnell, right? Two. He's got two more after this. No, three more after that. Three more. With the option here. I got to pay Kyler Gordon. I've got a page of Kwan Brisker. No, three and stuff and 35 to 40 million a year? No path. Yeah, that's a that's a no shot for me. And I know that we're talking about arguably a top five player. You want to go as far as 10? That's fine. I just that's a little bit too rich for my blood. At some point, you have to be able to roll the dice on what you have. You got to develop young players. But also, if you want to be able to plug in a pass rusher, I think you can do it for less. Then what you do for my comparisons, I think. I know he's elite. I understand that. But still. Now, if you told me, Oh my God, breaking news, the Bears got him. Yeah, I'll be sure driving the bus right down the middle of State Street with everybody. I'd be thrilled. It's not my money. But would I give up three and more and the money? You said, okay, he wants to be a bear. He's going to work with you on the deal. And it doesn't have to be top dollar. Like he's a DJ more type guy. And it's only two number one. I guess I could be persuaded beyond that three. No. What am I, Sonny Weaver Jr. in Cleveland? No. Yeah, that's a that would be a no shot. Now, of course, we're going to find out more about this shade coming up tonight on hard knocks. As you will see, Ryan polls picking up the phone to make a call to Dallas just to find out, you know, what's going on with. Hello. Hello. Who's this? This is Chicago Bears, man. So, yeah, we will find out more about that tonight. Check. Let's talk to you about Michael Parse click. That'd be it. Like in the, I'm sure people are, well, how are you getting the three first round picks? But it's the Mac deal was what to a second and another two firsts, a second and another pick. Yes, sir. And he was two years older than Michael Parsons. And you could make an argument that Parsons is better. Like, yes, that's where it's going to cost you. I don't know. Parsons is better. 25 year old than Mac was great. That's so his Parsons and he's 25 years old. I understand. It just not for me. No, I get it. Yeah. You were trading for Mac in your five of his career. You'd be getting Parsons in year four with a year left on his rookie. Like there's just no way he's getting moved. The cost would be enormous. But they paid, they paid lamb though. Holy is the lamb, bomb, bomb. They paid him. Now we can get that off of our, our sports lives. And by the way, Mac was traded to the Bears. I'm cut down day. What day is today? Oh, uh, down day. Hmm. Here's Shane. My test. Sweat sat down with Jason Leisure and talked about the bears being a huge upgrade to his situation in Washington. He was also singing the praises of Matt Eberfluse. Sweat talked about Eberfluse as a play caller, allowing guys in this defense to move around, play different positions, be a little more versatile and create mismatches, said he was never given the opportunity to do that in Washington. I always thought around Rivera was a pretty decent head coach. The idea that Sweat was not allowed to be a more versatile defender there is kind of shocking to me. Shot or no shot, it is time for us to embrace that Matt Eberfluse as a good coach. That's a shot. No shot. That is a shot. Absolutely. His players cannot stop talking about accountability, motivating him. Now he's got a win. He absolutely has to win football games. And I think if he was sitting here with us, he would say, "Cap, hoodie?" I got to win football games. I get what I do means. I am judged on 17 Sundays and how we do. I get paid a lot of money. I live a great lifestyle, but I have to win football games. But I do think he's been treated at some level. It got over the top. It did. Because as much as I love Ryan Polls and you know I do, I know you do. I've heard Sylvie talk about him. Waddle, calm your everybody. He has the same record as Matt Eberfluse because he hired them. They're joined together. We think Ryan's done an amazing job. But until they go out and start winning football games, those guys are tied together. So yes, he's got a lot to prove, but I do think it got a little over the top here. Yeah, I think it's a no shot. We're in big boy market. We're in Chicago. And we should be able to look at that one lost record and say it's not good enough. And so there'll never be a time cap unless you could show me that this year will be a Super Bowl championship season that the previous two seasons was good enough. Because it's not. It was not. I'm not saying it is. No, no. I'm speaking for me, me as a fan. And what I'm telling you is, is that from my standpoint, Matt Eberfluse, besides the one lost record also, was not very good in clock management. And we document that every single game, we talked about things that didn't go their way because of the fall of Matt Eberfluse. Now again, he was at arm with the best talent because we knew that the Bears were rebuilding towards something. However, along the way, Matt Eberfluse made some missteps. I'm sure all coaches do, but I'm a Bears fan. This is what I make sure I keep my focus on. Matt Eberfluse has not proven that he's a good head coach. What we've proven is that he's very good as a defensive coordinator and also has good bedside manner. And the players like him. That's great. But the bottom line is for those that are working eight and 10 hour days, they want to know as they go through their day and turn us on, even for an hour to find out, is my team any good or is in the middle or is it going in the wrong direction? And at this point in time, again, the roster says is going in the right direction. But again, Eberfluse has a lot to prove. Doesn't matter if whether or not he's likable or not. You know, you talk about their tied together polls and Eberfluse. Well, can I just tell you, Ryan polls has done more for the football team when Eberfluse is done. There's no question because of the movement. I'm sure Eberfluse, I'm sure Eberfluse had to green light a lot of this stuff and say, yeah, I agree with that. Point is though, is that that's polls at the controls. He's done more than Eberfluse is done. No question. But the bottom line is they both get judged on their record and they both have the same record. And again, did Matt make mistakes? Yeah, those have been documented. He's also been working on trying to be better at them. So we'll find out he has to win football games. He has to. Here's Shane Orlee. And we've all been wondering if Vailin's Vailis Jones would make the team or be cut. I was reading Bill Barnwell's ESPN article about trade candidates and cut down day. How many days that take for you to get through the article? Three all weekend. Vailis actually made the cut here from Bill Barnwell as a trade candidate. Barnwell says the team could offer a late round pick for Vailis' potential upside as a rotational running back and kick returner. Shot or no shot, trading Vailis Jones for literally anything would be a win for Ryan Pols. Yeah? I mean, if you're telling me I'm giving him away for a seven and somebody really believes he could contribute, why can't he contribute on my football team? If someone really believes they can contribute, they'd probably give more than a seventh. Like he's not going to be a starter anywhere. He's going to be the third running back on your roster in a special teamer. Right, but can I turn him into my version? I'm not calling him him. So don't say I am. Why can't I try and turn him into my version of Cordero Patterson? Are you saying that he's not him? He's not Cordero, Cordero Patterson's a multi-time pro bowler, right? Correct. And he's gotten big contracts and free agency, but Vailis showed me something that cutback run for 39 yards for a touchdown. That was pretty damn impressive. If they believe that they can extract that out of him, I would take a shot at keeping him. If they're like, we just got to get him off the roster, then move him. Get whatever you can. That's where I'm at. Can the answer to your question be this team is too good. This roster is too good. We just let him be someone else's project and we'll take whatever you want to give for him. It's like Tyson Miller in Seattle. They DFA'd him just because they had too many arms. He's not bad. He's been great for the Cubs. How about we talk about it like this? Cap, if you were to say we can trade Vailis Jones, who do you replace him with on that roster? That's as talented as who has the potential talent as Vailis Jones. Look at it from that standpoint. If you think that Vailis Jones is good because he's multifaceted, special teams guy, could be a backup running back, that kind of thing, a special set of plays. If you think he's that special, and you say, well, we can get rid of him. Anyone else in that roster have his skill set? Anyone that's on the scrap heap have his skill set? Not that I'm aware. Now, let's see who gets cut. I think the Browns just released this morning, but they're hoping to get him back on the roster, a kick returner, a wide receiver kick returner that some people feel like would be a good fit for the Bears as a return man. Glen Milburn, is that him? Dennis Gentry. Oh, good. Who was David Williams? David Williams. He's the one who returned at 95 and over time to beat Detroit and Detroit. Thanks, giving. Yeah. I would say, Cap, that I mean, that's how I would answer the question. And the answer is no. There is nobody that has that kind of speed. No matter how old he is, he really is. No one has that kind of speed. And to me, he's not expendable on the roster. Who else can be do what he did that he does? So I would say, even though I don't think that he's a special player, but who else has that kind of speed that you could find anywhere? Right. That's that's available. But he just gives me so various ways I can use him. Okay. So that's why, like, so no. Yeah. No, I'm not. If you count me, someone calls me and goes, here's a fourth round pick. Yeah, I probably would consider that. It's a pretty high pick. A seven, like a conditional seven. No, I'd rather have that's hot. That's how I look at it. You find somebody that's better than him at his position that could do what he does and more. Sure. But at this point in time, he can stay as long as he doesn't put give you negative yardage, hand off to valus. Oh, he gets pummeled minus six. Okay. Well, that's horrible. So correct. I'm just telling you, when he's out there's a scarlet letter cap, he's like, I'm getting the ball when he gets out there. He doesn't need a number. I'm getting the ball should be on the front of his jersey. Correct. Stonya. Correct. All right. We've got around the NFL coming up. Don't forget Albert Breyer and also scheduled to join us as well as we talk football and the bears on the cap and jhood morning show. If you missed something, get the podcast on the ESPN Chicago app. Cap and jhood are back on Chicago's home for sports. ESPN Chicago. It both sucks. He sucks. I'm just a fan. I'm not a football evaluator. I love the Green Bay Packers. The guy is front, but there he goes. This is not Detroit, man. This is the Super Bowl. I won't win him. He starts to come any more. This is a really thickly built guy. I mean, what's the answer you're looking for on these things here? It is time to go around the NFL. Right here on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. With you till 10 o'clock, the Mike Greenberg a 10 followed by black and a dollar in for Carmen New York. Oh, 12 to three. One when slowly two 30 to six 30 right into White Sox Rangers baseball at six 30 around the NFL. A special one with Shane Orlick. It is a special one hood because your favorite piece of the year finally with a significant delay. Thank you, Mike Sando is out. The quarterback tears Mike Sando talks to executives around the league pulls them and offers up the quarterback tears. So good. It's my favorite column of the year. Oh, I love that. I love a quarterback tier list. I want to find out how well you guys know Mike Sando. Tier one. I never met him. Tier one quarterback. Well, we talk about this piece every year, so I'd hope you have an idea of what this is going to look like. I do. A tier one quarterback can carry his team each week. The team wins because of him. He expertly handles peer passing situations. He has no real holes in his game. There are three tier one quarterbacks. Who are they? Three tier one quarterback. So it's three. So it's not Mahomes by himself. It's not. Patty Mahomes is one. Yeah. Uh, Josh Allen. Josh Allen is two. Josh Allen is in the top three, but he is not two. Well, I mean, top three. I mean, I wasn't doing it in order. Uh, and one more. Top three guy. Josh Allen or Josh Allen and Mahomes are in. We got one to get. Would it be Aaron Rodgers? No. Don't answer for me. I didn't pick it. I'm talking to hoodie here. Mute yourself. Did they put Lamar in there, you think? No. So Lamar probably could be tier two. Jack. Oh God. His numbers are insane. Oh my God. Okay. For me, it's Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, and then Patrick Mahomes and one, two, three. I'll go with hoodie on that burrow. That's correct. Joe Burrow is the other quarterback in tier one. Well done. That's a good call by you, hoodie. But still it's a projection. Let's see it now. He's taking a team to a Super Bowl. Okay, but show it again. Let's see it again. He was hurt last year. When he's healthy, he just looks the part. He's fantastic. No question. I he does. You heard what I said about this last week, Shay. I don't know if the bingles will give the infrastructure for Burrow to get back up there again. I don't know that. I know he's great. I don't know if he'll get back to the Super Bowl with that outfit again. I'm sure Jamar Chase saw the news cross on CD Lambin went. Yeah. Mr. Brown. Yeah. Jamar Chase. And then what happened? Click. Oh, hello. Hello. Hello. Here's Shay Norland. Tier two quarterbacks. There are 11 of them. All right, Shay. I'm sorry, man. It's taken up a stand over in the executives around the league. All right. A tier two quarterback can carry his team sometimes, but not as consistently. He can handle pure passing situations in doses and or possess other dimensions that are special enough to elevate him above tier three has a hole or two in his game. Okay, little, so let's just put them all in a bag here. Cap. CJ Strauss got to be on that list, right? Tier two? Yeah. Yes. Stroud is tier two. Okay, Lamar is going to be on that list. Mar is tier two. Dak's going to be that list. Dak is tier two. What about your guy? Aaron Rodgers has to be tier two. Aaron Rodgers is tier two checks in at seventh. Okay. What about your guy in the Green Bay? Oh, Jordan love. Absolutely. Good enough to be in that list. Jordan love checks in. I'm interested too high too low. 14th. Tier two. Tier two. That's fine. You still got to prove it again. But how many more we got left? Five, six, seven, I think. Seven. Okay, so just don't Herbert in there. Lawrence in there. Herbert is in there. Lawrence is not. Ooh, a drop. How about that? No Trevor Lawrence. Do we know Taylor hurts in that spot? Can we throw him in there in the tier two? I think we can. You can. He's tier two. Okay. At 11. Can you send anybody who you said Rodgers, right? Yes. Dak Lamar. Two up. Two is not in tier two. Oh, the big bag. Yeah. Very highly paid. Two very lucrative quarterbacks. Not in tier two. Trevor Lawrence and two. Kirk is at 13. So that like Stafford and like Stafford is here at five. You know, Gino is not here. You're missing one now, two. We're missing. In fact, actually. You said Kirk Cousins, right? Yeah. You said Stafford. Yep. Jalen hurts is not in there. Jalen hurts is in there at 11. So we're missing three tier twos. Three tier twos. Let me, you know, one. I'll help you out a little bit. One in the division. In Minnesota. Wait, in our division? In our division. Yes. That 10 ahead of Jordan love and Jalen hurts. Well, because he's proven more cap. You already mentioned one of them. Numbers are insane, kid. All Brock, Dak Prescott, Brock Purdy and Brock Purdy round out tier two. There you go. Okay. Next one. Little rich for Brock Purdy for me. I don't think tier three, a quarterback is a legitimate starter, but needs a heavier running game and or defensive component to win a lower volume dropback passing off and suits him best. The top two, you already got two and Trevor Lawrence. Check in at 15 and 16 to start tier three. How many more? A lot. Okay. Keep on. Okay. You are the tier two though. Gino Smith's in there. Gino Smith is at 20 in tier three. Okay. Just throwing the rest of them like to Sean Watson tier three's 18 and like little guy. Oh, Kyler Murray Kyler Murray. It's 17 just sucks. How about just just it's not that good. It's just like that's not going to work. It's just not good. How about the other Lincoln Riley little guy hoodie? Oh, Baker. Yeah. And 19. He's better than that. But okay. I agree. I think listen, I'm making the list Baker's tier two to me. I love this guy. I can't quit it. If you were the Browns and you could redo it when you go I'll pass on giving up all we gave up. Yeah. And I'll keep Baker. Yeah, you wouldn't. What about so then it's like car and Oh, their car. Their car 20 in tier three. Yep. And then there's one more. Russ. Yep. Russell Wilson falling all the way to 22 but stayed in tier three. Fair. Fair enough. So Russell Wilson slash Justin fields at 22. Justin's not there. What do you mean? Oh, shot. It's gonna give 51 percent of the damn snaps. Take that. Sando's gonna have the cult outside his house. Go ahead. Tier four is the final tier. Sando ranked quarterback could be an unproven player not enough information for voters to classify or a veteran who ideally would not start all 17 games. Okay. So that's Caleb. Yeah. The rookies are not counted on the list. Oh, no. Okay. Sam Darnold. Sam Darnold is 29 of 30. Bryce Young. Bryce Young's 28 of 30. Daniel Jones. Daniel Jones at the very top of the list 23 of 30. Okay. Was I told you? Not very good. Okay. The 23 giant dumps the fire. They are disaster dumpster fire back after that. Wow. Who else are we missing here? You said no rookies. So that means Jane Daniels. No. Bryce Young. You said yes. Will Levis is a rookie. Will Levis is not a rookie. He's on the list at 26th. My Mayo King. Oh, yes, yes. Mayonnaise King. And he eats the banana with this peel on just a weird guy. So like Brother Brissette. Is that because that qualify or did last at 30? Anthony Richardson. Anthony Richardson's here tied with Will Levis at 26. And we miss anybody? Justin Fields is 24. And Gardner Menchoo's 25. And that's the full list. Gardner Menchoo. Okay. Darnold, that makes sense. But they had Brother Brissette at the bottom, huh? Very last quarterback ranked. Horrible. Pre-season play kind of showed that too. He sticks. Gardner or Justin if you had to win a game? Gardner. Oh, yeah. He almost led the Colts to the playoffs last year. I agree. I think honestly, there's an argument he should be in tier three. He started a bunch last year and almost took him to the playoffs. Yeah. So one of my bigger disagreements with the list, and I love the tier list. We'll come back to this tomorrow. We'll just come back and review it again. So I'm hearing Beijing checked in at 31. He's better than half the starters in the league. Better than he's in the top 32, I said. Take that. Who? All right. So out of these final rankings from Sando, Daniel Jones or Tyson Beijing? Daniel Jones. Yeah. He's one of road playoff game, took a team to the playoffs. I have to put him there first till Tyson proves it. Justin Fields, I know the answer. I think we'd all take Beijing. No question. And the fact of the matter is, and I'll say it again, I think I said it to you on the year the other day. I know I told you off the year. They wanted, or I should say, Gatsy and his offensive step wanted to stick with Beijing when Justin was healthy last year, when he came back from injury. Now our offense runs better. Yeah. That's a fact. Yes. I would take Beijing over Justin. Think that Justin was ready after the third week he was off, and they gave Beijing an extra game. They did. That's what I understand. That is correct. Okay. You're well sourced. Okay. That's what I understand. Justin, take another week. Hmm. They would have liked him to take the whole season off. Push game to shove their Nancy Kerrigan thing. Yeah. That's why I would sign Beijing to an extension now, before he proves that he's worth a bunch of money, because God forbid there's an injury, and he plays his ass off. I want both guys locked up. Okay. Brissette or Beijing. You say Beijing? Yes. I say Beijing. And then what's the other? I don't think it's fair to put him against Richardson or Levis, two young guys with starter upside. I would rather play the two of them if I had them, because they could legit be starting quarterbacks in the league. Bryce Young kind of the same deal, even though I'm mostly out. Sam Darnolder Tyson, Beijing. And by the way, I'm digging my heels in, Shay. This guy here, he gets one bit of a kernel of an opinion from Alex Brown, about Anthony Richardson. And he thinks that he's going to be all world. Who does you? No, I've always given the credit to Alex Brown for that. I said Alex Brown feels that way. You win or like, I'm telling you, he's not going to be the guy. I'm telling you. Athlete, yes. But I don't think that I saw him in Florida. An incredible athlete. I just don't think that he's a quarterback for the future. I'll be glad to be wrong about it. I just don't see it. I didn't like what I saw in college. Can't debate the bad injury last year, of course. Hoping you bounce back, but not against the bear because that's week three. Yeah, it's correct. All right. I don't think that he's the guy, Shay. You watch Florida football. I was with you. You know, before the draft, I was with you. I'm kind of in on him though. No, you'll see it. I told you that guy at the blackjack table who told me, Justin can't process. And after a year, you're going to realize it and he'll be gone. And he was right. He loves Anthony Richardson. Loves. So we'll see. Albert Breyer, scheduled to join us next as we talk bears in the NFL on the Captain Jay Hood morning show. For all the haters. Captain Jay Hood are back. And you know this man. Chicago's home for sports. ESPN Chicago. Hello football on ESPN 1000. Hello Bird. Albert Breyer. Hey Bird, senior NFL writer for SI.com joins Captain Jay Hood Bird said. What? You're it Bird. On ESPN 1000. What do you mean I'm it? We see that's the game. I just tag you and you're it until you tag somebody else. Albert Breyer. No, no, I'm not playing a game. I'm reading earning and I'm not. Okay. On Chicago's home for sports. What bird is it? Now time for Albert Breyer who covers football like a blanket for SI.com and Monday morning quarterback and Bert joins us on the hotline. Karak star not a hotline. Rattle, rattle, thunder, batter, boom, boom, boom. Good morning, Albert. How are you? Hey guys, what's up? We're awesome. I have a really important question for you. Does your wife call you Bert or Albert? Well, she calls me way worse things than that. Usually Bert. I knew you'd say, usually Bert. Because I was driving in you were on an interview and I'm like, they called you Bert. We always call you Albert. I'm like, I got to ask him. I said to hoodie. I got to ask him. What are we supposed to call him like? Well, I think I told you. I think I told this. I just never correct anybody. You know what I mean? Like whatever it ever. I mean, some people call me AB. Some of you are calling very last name. I don't know. It's just what I call you. The way all that the way all this happened was you're my dad. My dad's got the same name as me. And my dad was Bert. And so like when I was little, it was actually Bertie. It was little. Wow. It really little. And then like it's just I never really told anyone what to call me. And so like on like, you know, like the class roll call or whatever. I'm an Albert, but most kids when I was growing up call me Bert. Because that's what my family called me. And then I don't know. It's just sort of evolved. My my bylines to Albert, you know, like just, you know, someone a long time ago told me that like I would honor my family. I actually had my middle initial in my byline for a while. I don't know why I dropped that. That was even intentional. But yeah, I mean, because of my middle initial, it is my mom's maiden name. So, so yeah, like I, I just don't correct people. So people can call me whatever they want. See, that's awesome. I guess you just have to keep it clean here. Yes, exactly. That's it. Can't use some of the names. My wife might want to use one here. Our video streaming on Twitch and YouTube was brought to you by Buffalo Wild Wings, the number one pick for wings, beer, and sports. So the the bears are getting ready to take on the Titans. Have you seen any of the hard knocks yet in your travels, Albert? Yeah, no, I actually caught up on it on the plane last week when I was coming back for it. What stands out most in this rated G hard knocks that we've been seeing? Yeah, yeah, I mean maybe PG. I don't know if it's G. But yeah, I mean, you know, I think it's it's it's definitely, you know, you can see the bears have been sensitive to putting stuff out there. You know, and I think like the obviously the trade talks and do it on more interesting, although I don't know that that was all together, like edited honestly, based on what I know about the way the Patriots handle that situation and and and what that really you down to wasn't the contract. It was I told you guys before Judon's choice on where he wanted to go, but to understand why they wouldn't want to put that part of that out there. You know, so like I do think it's sanitized, but they always are. And, you know, it was interesting to see them go through the the Judon conversation. I think it was interesting seeing them bringing Kevin Warren in to that discussion and involving him on that. I always think that's interesting and like the stuff that goes into trades and kind of, you know, who's talking to who internally because that's different in every organization. You know, like sometimes the team president is purely a business guy and wouldn't be consulted on something like that. It would go straight to the owner. In other cases, the president is like a proxy for the owner when the owner might not be there every day. So I thought that part of it was interesting. Yeah, man. I think there's some interesting stuff, but I think it's clearly sanitized. And I do think to some degree after the way that the the Giants one was received by the general public. I think both films and the fairs are being careful. So let's talk about cut down day around the National Football League. We were looking at the NFLPA decision to ban having a third quarterback allowed to be elevated for game day. A, why would that happen? And B, how does that affect the quarterback position around the league? Because we've got Brett Ripin at Austin Reed trying to make the 53. Yeah. Well, I mean, the way it's going to affect it is like, and you guys remember any of this argument, right? Like being in this argument is stem to be in a championship game after the 22 season when both brought party and who was it brought pretty Josh Johnson, I think, right? Both got hurt. Yep. And then the Niners just had nothing left at the position, right? Like so, and years ago, as you guys will remember, there was a third quarterback designated for a game day where like that guy wouldn't count against your roster. And then they took that away and, you know, like that that's what sort of created this situation where, you know, what do you do with the third quarterback is become a more difficult position. And quite honestly, guys, like, as teams are going through the roster, 46, 45, it sounds like a lot. And it's up to 48 now for game day, but it's really not. You know, and so you have to be careful what you do with your roster spots. And usually the guys that you aren't dressing on game day, but you're carrying on your roster or develop mental guys that you don't want to expose to waivers. So, there's like all kinds of moving parts with this. And I would think it would probably make a team think twice about what it's going to do with the last spot on its roster, whether or not it's going to carry the third quarterback there because you can't just promote them as easily on a week to week basis and you'd be more likely to carry the guy in your roster. And as for the reason the NFL PA will detail it. I haven't talked to them specifically about it, but my feeling would be they probably don't want teams like using that as like a shadow roster spot, you know. And, you know, if you're talking about like the way the salary cap works and all of that, it can affect that and the team's ability to carry extra players. So, I would think it's just putting out the NBA maybe a roster management thing where it adversely affects mother player. More than Albert Brea right around the corner on the cap and Jhood morning show. Every guy can bust. Ladies and gentlemen, can I please have your attention? I've just been handed an urgent news story. And Jay Hood are back. Albert Brea with us every Tuesday here on the cap and Jhood morning show on the ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. Albert, we're so glad that CD Lam signs so we can least stop talking about that for a while. And now we're on the Michael Parsons watch, right? And the Dak Prescott watch. Like, what's what's next? Is he here yet? Did he get the Chicago? Michael Parsons? Yeah, I would just advise you guys to stay off fricking internet. I think either the chance Dak has done before the season. I do think that they're gonna be gonna have her to try and do something with Dak. And the hope is that they can work something out there. Whether or not they that happened, I think, is sort of dependent on how much compromise is made on both sides. Obviously, I've taken it to the point where there's only, you know, whatever five months left on the contract. You know, and then Mike, I think wait till next year. And it's interesting because, you know, I think he is another one where you know, he plays a premium position and he had a premium skill and he is played well enough to command a contract at the top of the markets. How do you reward somebody like that? Well, I think, you know, if you're a Cowboys, you should go in and try to do something early, but it takes two to tango on the tango on that. So my guess would be that they wait till next year. And then that becomes next year's version of the CD Lam negotiation this year. My guess would be that he's going to ask for 40 million a year if he has a sort of year that that he's capable of. And, you know, like that is not going to be an easy negotiation. In his agent, Parsons agent, David Moolagetta, who's always done great for all his clients and has generally done top of the market deals. So it'll be interesting to see the way that one goes because, you know, I think you're like this, there's no way they would entertain trading them now. But like when we get to like next year in April and May and June, if that negotiation goes sideways, the Cowboys are certainly going to be getting phone calls, you know. And that doesn't mean they're going to shop them, but like, you know, if another team thinks like, well, maybe we could get this guy. He's such a rare talent that those phone calls will come. I just don't think that, you know, like, I don't think that's even a, that's a complete non starter right now. You know, I wouldn't even I wouldn't even entertain the discussion right now of that happening next week. So us sending shade O'Hare today to all the Dallas incoming flights, we should probably pause that. Oh, I mean, if I was a bears, I would call them a fun phone call to have, you know, quick to hang up on me. Our city went crazy. Our city yesterday had social media, it went nuts. Okay, Caleb Williams, right to retweet that. Yeah, I understand. I understand Caleb's having fun with it. Where did that come from in the first place? Because one of these are aggregation accounts, we need to go down that road. I don't think it was it was just well, they paid CD so much. They got to pay deck. They can't pay them all. All right. And then somebody wrote an article and said the band should go on like and Caleb retweeted it. All right. So like that whole they can't pay them all argument. You know, that's when you're talking about like a guard or like a safety or like, you know, a rotational defensive tackle, you know, like that they can't pay them all argument. It's not about guys. It's bringing positions, you know, like your number one receiver, your quarterback, your left tackle, your, your, your premier edge rusher. Like that's, you can't pay them all situation for a team that's in contention like the Cowboys are. It's generally not for guys like that. You know what I mean? Yeah, totally get it. But never say never. I mean, you wouldn't be doing your job if you didn't make the phone call, right? So agreed. Hoodie and I are wondering, any big names ripe to get cut or be traded because of salary on a team that does not think they're going to contend? Um, I don't think it's going to be a crazy day. Um, 10 things to happen. Sure. Uh, you know, maybe the roster cut down creates a movement on a you. Um, but I don't know if there's anybody out there that we haven't already talked about. I think part of the reason why guys just used to be like a big day, you know, um, I just think teams have gotten more aggressive about getting out in front of these things and the trade markets become like more free and open than it used to be where a lot of these things like happen way ahead, you know? So, um, you know, guys are getting traded in March or April. And so, you know, I think you get to the cut down and really what this comes down to is like, who is going to be cut like John Dott's and that that happened last week in part because the other teams have looked at it and kind of realized that like, Oh man, like he's down the depth chart there. Like, he might not like, you know, I think he's going to be probably make the team, but if he can have a big role there. And so, you know, teams started calling and that caused Washington to think about it a little bit more. And then the Eagles are willing to throw them a three and like, all right, we sort of have to do this, you know? So that's one way can happen. But I think when you come down to the cut down, it's going to be more like this guy is going to make the team, you know? So, I think Denver is the best example of that right now. I don't even know if these are both out there. But, you know, Tim Patrick, the receiver and coming off the ACL and then, um, and then some Ajay P. Ryan, they're running back. Both those guys are both those guys are very available today. And the reason why is because they have a couple of rookies that have really come along at those positions. Troy Franklin, Devon Vele, a receiver, and then Ajay guests and made the Notre Dame running guys. They took them sets around, right? So those guys have really come along and shown, like, that they have something. So, you know, sort of push those other guys that, you know, we know those names, Tim Patrick and, uh, and, uh, and, and some Ajay P. Ryan off the roster. So, you know, before they cut them, they're going to try to trade them. That's the sort of thing that I think you're going to see some of today. Albert, over the years of all of us watching football, it was always cool to have an anchor that can lock in and tell you what's going on with the news of the day in the NFL, followed by a guy that used to play the game, then possibly a gambling guy, like a Jimmy the Greek Snyder. But there's always that insider as well that was on TV that would give you the inside. They're best. Always have that. Always. Albert, will you be doing that in the fall to be able to be that guy that people can rely on on TV? Um, yeah. I mean, I haven't like signed anything yet, but stay tuned. So, Albert, that is so awesome. Yes. We didn't want to, you know, just sledgehammer, you know, like we got to ask. It's so cool. No, no, no. I appreciate you guys asking. I mean, I, it's like, I would not deny anything that's been out there. Awesome. Okay. We're really happy for you when we look forward to a fun season with you. I think that's awesome. So, people can still come and see and read and watch and listen to all my stuff on SI also. And nothing really changed adding to the things that I'm going to do. And I appreciate you guys, appreciate you guys saying that. We just want to just, I just want you to put in a perspective though, for a young football fan like yourself growing up to be able to see that. Like there was like a reporter that called me, who I know, um, or he texted me, and I ignored the text. And I was like, I said to him after I'm like, I feel like such a freaking hypocrite, ignoring a reporter's text. So anyway, I was, I don't even think it should be news, but whatever. So it's super cool. But I'm still going to get the question out. What does that feel like for you, growing up watching football and knowing there's always been insiders has given you like the scoop and that in which that could be you this fall. Yeah. I mean, I like, I've sort of been doing the job in a lot of different ways over the last, you know, I mean, 12, 13, 14 years. Um, you know, like, I always, like my, the guy that I looked up to most without question was Will McDonough. And it's because I grew up here in Boston and I read him and, um, you know, I would just, anybody wants to get into this business. I don't know. I think you guys would be with me and saying like, I don't know if I would advise kids to get into this business right now. But, um, but, um, but yeah, I mean, like, I, I, I always was reading Willy, and everybody got to see him on TV, but then I got to read him in the globe because I was, you know, I'm here, I grew up here in Boston. And, um, you know, like, I always loved how he could take you behind the curtain and he could tell you something you didn't know. And, um, I remember in particular, the Bill Parcel story, um, when Parcels went from the Patriots to the Jets, right? And he was, um, he was on the, I mean, Willy made you feel like you're on the Tarmac with Parcels. You know what I mean? Like getting on the private jet to go take the Jets job after that Super Bowl, right? Um, probably because he wasn't a Tarmac. So, um, and Will was one of the pioneers of, you know, newspaper people, writers, um, going on TV, which there's a lot of us now, right? Like, so, um, you know, being in a role, like what Willy's was, um, you know, I had his old job at the Globe for a while too. Um, it's really kind of like what I think about when I think about that, you know, and then you think about like how hopefully, you know, hopefully you can kind of set an example on how to do things the right way for, for somebody else down the line too. So look for Albert to be having that little schoolboy cap on like Will McTutter had on the sidelines. I don't, uh, yeah, yeah, I don't have, I actually don't on the scallop cap, but I am part Irish. Somebody do I should. Albert, thanks, man. Appreciate you. All right. Thanks, guys. Thanks, Albert. Talk to you next week. Albert Brier from SI.com and Monday morning quarterback on the car X tire and I don't have a rattle, rattle, thunder, batter, boom, boom, boom, boom. Amazon expert in coming on Thursday night football. Our guy. Yes. We just want to just give him his kudos before it became official because we've been seeing the rumor in you window about Albert Brier being on the desk, being able to be an insider on Amazon TV. Yeah, on Thursday night football. Super cool. That's really good. Yep. All right. Coming up, we talk about the Chicago Bears with the Caleb Williams have to say about his team for this year. You hear from Caleb in two minutes on the cap and J Good morning show.
