This is your morning routine. Listen to respect my name. Cap and G hood. That's right. That's right. We're bad. Watch the show on Twitch. Follow ESPN 1000 Chicago. Stream the show on the ESPN Chicago app. And on in there. 100.3 HD2. And on ESPN 1000 Chicago. Now no, no, no. David Kaplan and Jonathan Hood. Good morning, everyone. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Ooh. Welcome in to the Captain David Morning Show. On ESPN 1000 and we're streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. But David Kaplan, Jonathan Hood with you, we've got Shane. We've got Jay Moore. And we got you for a three hour ride on this Tuesday morning with open phone lines for you. 3-1-2-3-2-E-S-P-N-3-2-3-7-7-6-X-R phone number. And my partner is back. Fresh from Las Vegas. As high as dressed, even if you didn't know he was in Vegas, you'd say, "Hmm, that guy's dressed like he was just in Vegas. Sunshine, bright colors, happy." That's his third home, folks. He has one home, then he has a lake home in his third home, Las Vegas. That's his third home. Well, it's not a home, it's a happy place. It's your home. I love that place. You've been there a million times. It might as well be your home. You might as well go to Henderson and find yourself a home there in this surrounding area. I'll be back, Mindy. Go into the slots. The table's hot. I heard seven o'clock. Take that. What an experience that was. So I signed up for the circa great partner of ours, paid my money for the survivor contest. Payouts now north of 10 million. Oh, wow. 10 million. That's more than yesterday. Yeah, my brother and I split the entry. And the guy said, "Yeah, by the time we close entries, "on the fourth, because the first game's the fifth, "the Ravens and the Chiefs." He said, "I think the prize is gonna be 12 million." 12 million. And what you do is you pick one game a week. If your team wins, you move on. If your team loses, thanks for coming, appreciate the donation. So we split the entry fee. And you have to sign up in person. So I stayed at circus Sunday night, played blackjack late in the evening, got up, ran down, and then you have to hire a proxy to put your picks in each week. But you must sign up in person. That's the law in Nevada. There are a bunch of people waiting in line. Men and women signing up for that. And then we signed up for their super contest where you pick five games each week with the spreads. They release on Wednesday. Most points, wins, top 100, places pay. I think the prize on that one is 10 million for a first place. So we're in the two. Yeah, dude, let me tell you something. First of all, this circa, if your sport's better, it's amazing. Stadium swim, I've heard of Dolan Black talk about it. I've heard Waddle and Sylvia go, it's insane. Oh my, world's largest sports book between inside and outside. I went down there and I'm like, oh, I gotta go to the airport. Why can't I just lay in the sun all day here? I have a cocktail. There was baseball on during the day 'cause there was a Royals guardians double header. The Cubs are at 340 'cause they're playing out East. I bet the Cubs yesterday. So that hit, back Cody Bellinger to get an RBI. I didn't realize they were gonna get 18 of them. So you go there and I highly recommend, maybe too late for some people to, oh, I can't get there, not next year, planet. Put a little group together, split the entry and it gives you a season full of enjoyment. I can understand that. I'll ask this to be clear, because this is emanating from Las Vegas. If you win, you bring in home the majority of the dough, right? This is not based out of California, where you can only take home about, you know, 25 bucks. - Right, exactly. - Because it's tax to death. - Correct, right? - No, they, I believe, I don't know this to be a fact if it's based on where I live. - Okay. - Or if it's the Nevada taxes, which they don't have a state income tax, but they do have other taxes that they'll take out. - Yes. - So you walk into this massive sports book, and first of all, I went down there Sunday night at one in the morning, got done playing in blackjack, and he was 130, and there's a guy at the window. I'm like, you guys are open, he goes. - This is the world's largest sports book. We're open 24/7. - Yeah. - In the sports book, 'cause a lot of the hotels, they'll shut down the sports book. The tables are open. - Now folks, I just want to make sure it's very clear. My partner, down at three o'clock in the morning, central time, 1 a.m. Pacific, you see. - Yeah, it was like 130, actually. - So 330 in the morning. - Up in early, now here's what's great about this, right? The bets that you and Brett would make on the old, you know, fan duel, the horse races overseas. - Right, right. - They're running, aren't they at that time? There's stuff going on. - Yeah, there's stuff going on. - Yeah. - There's other sports, you can sit down there like, yeah, I got some international bets, I'll keep my eye on. - Yeah. - That's crazy. - Crazy, absolutely crazy. And so you go down there, and there's eight or 10 people at these tables, or I said, I need to find a proxy service. You pay them, they're licensed by the state. They have what's called errors and omissions insurance, in case they screw up your pick. They are insured, if heaven forbid, you would have won the content. And I found this guy, Tom. Tom's got a bunch of family back here. He owns, I told my, I'll give you a plug. I paid him, vegasfootballproxy.com, Tom Carroll, vegasfootballproxy.com. So if you need a proxy, this guy was awesome. He's walking me through the whole thing. He made it super easy to sign up. Bam, we're in. Now the question is, do I take, my brother and I are doing us together. - Yeah. - Do we take the bear a week one? And you can't use a team a second time. They just have to win in the survivor. - So, after you were off the air, 'cause Cap came on from vegas at 9.30 yesterday, Jesse, who's sitting in for you. And I were going through some of the games. Because I think that at this, this is a great time for you to explain the survivor pool scenario and what's best. Do you take the obvious or do you take the hard bet because again, you can't keep, you can't keep taking the same game or the same team every week. It changes. - Correct. - Once you use a team, they're off the board for the rest of the season. - Yeah. So we were just trying to figure out like, what would your strategy be? Like for instance, I could tell you without question, that Buffalo's beating Arizona. Buffalo at home against Arizona, like Arizona's not winning that game. If you want to get Buffalo early, there you have it. If you just need to have a win in week one, there you go. - It's just surviving advance. - I don't. But I know there's a strategy to it though, right? - Correct. Correct. So, we've looked at it Cincinnati at home against Shays, not very good Patriots. But then you burn the Bengals who are good teams. See, they're gone. Like I'll tell you for sure, New Orleans at home at Mercedes-Benz Stadium is defeating Carolina. No question about it. No doubt that New Orleans is winning that game. But again, you want to burn New Orleans now or later? - Right. - I don't know. - New Orleans is horrible. This might be a pretty good time to use them actually. - Here's the problem. So, I've been in these, I got to week 17 in one of them. And then, a few years ago, let's say it was like 2019, somewhere around that, I'm like, I just want to survive in advance. Team was a 14 and a half point favorator. - Okay. - I'm like, I've taken them. I don't care I'm burning a good team. I want to get off to a good, and they got upset. Half the pool was gone. - Brutal. - One. So, it's going to take a lot of research. Got to know the injuries, who's the healthiest. - Like, those are the ones that Jesse and I chose. Unless you're trying to be cheeky and go Dallas on the road against Cleveland. Get out of there. Dallas will get the job done. I mean, you want to do that as a risk. - It's a risk. - Cleveland, you know, again, solid. This is make or break for the Browns. Either they get to the playoffs and make some hay or Stefanski, and that coaching staff's going to be fired. - Correct. - So, I'm just saying like, you could do that too. But I, for me, I just need a win. And I'm just taking what I think is a favorite to win. - You just survive in events. That's why I thought, ooh, maybe I used the bear week one. - Boy, imagine they lose though, and then you're doubled up on your anger. - Oh, God. - Cap, your team is Seattle to me. - Who do they play? - Seattle at home against Denver. They're the third biggest favorite in week one. They're a middle of the pack team. You're not going to be kicking yourself that you used early. They're the one for me. - Seattle at this point is a five and a half point favorite in that game against Denver. - Third biggest favorite on the board. - I mean, it's tough. Like, I need to lay up early. So then you take Cincinnati over New England, at Cincinnati. - Cincinnati's a nine point favorite against the Patriots. - Right, no, I don't think the Patriots are going to upset them. But if they did, I can guarantee you out of the thousands of people in this contest, 60% of them are going to have Cincinnati. So my strategy has always been, let me find another game. And if heaven forbid, the upset happens. Immediately, you've chopped the legs out of a lot of that pool. - How much money do you have on Baltimore, Shay, against Kansas City? Because how Kansas City has the jitters early, just like last year at the line. - Honestly, I haven't looked at that game yet, but funny though, right? It's at Kansas City, it gets Baltimore. That's the opener. Kansas City's a three point favorite. - No, I'm low on the Ravens this year. That might be a chief spot for me. - Possibly, possibly. Or the Chiefs caught flat footed like last year, against the lion. Who had the lion last year, Cap? You had the lion last year. Oh God, it flipped on everybody. The lions came out strong in that first game. It was amazing. - Yep, I remember I was in Reno for my son's bachelor party. - Yes, we were talking. - Yeah. - And we went to the casino in Reno, Nevada, every, there's like 12 guys. It was awesome. And they're all like, we gotta bet the chief. I mean, the... - The lion. - The lion. 'Cause I was telling them, the lions are gonna win this game. And they did. - Yeah, beat their ass. Made a courderious Tony with some bad plays. - Bad plays, like off his hands, they got picked off. - Bad, bad game for them. - So. - So I guess, you know, and I think that what we're talking about here, Cap, is I think good advice for anyone that's gonna be in one of these pools, especially a circle pool like this, because man, it's like, do I clip the black wire or the red wire? Which one do I go? I need to lay up first, and then we move on from there. I just need the, what I think is the easy win for me. - Right, just, it's like a 16 over, a one over a 16. - Let's just get to the second game. - Just give me over, please. - Yes, just gonna get to the sweet 16. - And for those, again, just tuning in, it's a, this is straight up is not against the spread. - Correct, the other contest where you pick five games, those are with the spreads they put out each Wednesday, and those spreads lock. So if Wednesday, the spread is, lions minus six, and then four starters on the lions are knocked out in practice. The line does not change. It stays, it's a locked line. - I was just made aware of a rule in this contest that I do not like, and Cap, I wanna make sure you're aware of it. - Tell me, which one, the survivor or the five? - The circus survivor. - Okay. - Thanksgiving and Christmas, I'm looking at the rules right now, are considered their own individual weeks. - What? - Oh God. - I just don't know this. - Here you go, this is from the Rulesheet Circus Sports, entries that have previously selected all eight Thanksgiving day and Black Friday teams to therefore unable to select any teams playing on Thanksgiving day or Black Friday will be eliminated at the conclusion of the Thanksgiving Black Friday contest week. Same goes for Christmas, so be careful choosing any of the teams that play Thanksgiving day or Black Friday or on Christmas day. - Oh God. - I didn't know that. - Do not rid yourself of Kansas City and Baltimore and Houston early, they play on Christmas. - Do not rid yourself of Detroit, Dallas, Miami or Green Bay early. - Well then, then you know what that means, Cap, for Thanksgiving. - I'll take the bear. - Oh God. - Right, that's Detroit. - Yes, not with confidence, that was your chest, but you wait for that day, Cap. - Oh, I did not know this. - Cap, November. Big spot, Bears Lion. Oh God. - Wow. (laughing) - That's gonna be a tough one. It'll come down to that, Cap. I'll take the bear. - Oh no. - Thursday, November 28th. - Yeah. - Yeah. - That's not good. - No, no. That's a tough one. Shay, that's a tough spot, but you got three games to choose from on Thanksgiving. - And one on Black Friday? - Yeah, one Black Friday, but those are packaged together, so it's four total games that week. - Eight teams. - Christmas is brutal. That's three games. You got to pick somebody from the three games. - I like the Celtics. - I hate that. - Right. (laughing) - I'm taking the nugget. - I'm gonna go. - Yeah. - I'm going Golden State. I'm gonna shake up the pool. - He likes the seven o'clocker, the Denver game. As you've already had your Thanksgiving meal and just comatose. - I like Denver. Take that, Nick. - Give me a slice of pie. - Next set of lemon hands. - Fight your way. - Wow. - See? So again, I paid my entries with my brother and paid my way out there. I just want to tell you as an unbiased person, you've got to go to circa. If you're a sports gambler, - Dude. - That stadium swim is ridiculous. - Those few games on Thanksgiving, that'll be a bitch for you. - Yes. - That ain't, that's not easy. - No. - That was a, that's the reason why they give the NFL Thanksgiving. Markey games. They're no wallflowers now. - No. - That's gonna be a tough content. I hope we're just still alive at that Thanksgiving. Man, if you're still in it, Thanksgiving, our guy, Tony Rizzo, he's in it from Cleveland. He had to fly there and do this a couple of weeks ago and sign up. - You see, this, I'm wishing you and Dr. Brew great luck that you will be able to lock this in. But this is why the NFL has this because it is unpredictable. Like, if this is the NBA, I got you. Don't worry about it. - Yeah. - NBA? - Yeah. Just to, you know, get Sacramento out of there and just like, you know, some of the bad, some of the mediocre teams, the bad teams, I get, but the NFL. - Whew. - It's funny you mentioned that it was 3.30 in the morning. I'm like, Monday morning, hoodie's not up yet. - There was WNBA lines already up for Monday's games. - Yes. - I'm like, I should call hoodie. Nah, I can't wait for that. - It's not yet, another hour. - Yeah. - And I would have been up. That's for sure. - I'm just almost praying now that you make it to Thanksgiving but the only teams you haven't selected for that week are the Giants at Dallas or the Raiders at Kansas City. - Oh. - And if you just head in your hands, must pick one of the two. - Wow. - Knowing cap, he'll get the bear done early. But the rest of that, tough, difficult. - Difficult. - Mm-hmm. - That is a tough slate. So wait, it's Bears at Lions, Raiders at Kansas City. - Raiders Kansas City is Black Friday. Giants, Cowboys, 3.30, and then the 7.29 game is Dolphins at Packers. If I were you, I would probably save the Cowboys for Thanksgiving. - Oh my God. - Or the Chiefs. - Chiefs Raiders is a rivalry game. Raiders might win that one. - They beat him last year. - Remember, Andy Reed said, "Thanks for beating our ass." We needed that. - Yeah, that's a rivalry game, so who knows? - And the Cowboys are hosting the Giants. - Giants, that's it. - That's what everybody's gonna be waiting on. - That's a tradition. - Yes. - So, I mean, they will might be fired by then. - Okay. - They might be gone. - They might be fine. - Hanging your head on Daniel Jones, okay? Daniel Jones. - He's terrible, he's not very good. Overpaid, over loved. - Wow. - So anyway, that is my message to everyone. If you're in Vegas, or you're thinking about it, and you're a sports gambler, there's no better sports book than circa. - Bears fans, how much would a slow start shake your confidence? We'll address that coming up next on The Cap and Jhood Morning Show. (upbeat music) - The Cap and Jhood, I'm back. - Oh, Cap, Jhood, big fan, man. ♪ Cap and Jhoody ♪ ♪ Bop, bop, bop, bop ♪ Watch out, fellas. ♪ Chicago's home for sports ♪ ♪ ESPN, Chicago ♪ (upbeat music) - It's a Cap and Jhood Morning Show on ESPN 1000, and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. Here is hoping that you're gonna have a great Tuesday, right here on Chicago's Home for Sports. So, it's funny, we were talking about the schedule for the Bears, and talking about what Cap should do, as far as this circa survivor league. So, Cap, you know, the first game is against Tennessee, as we all know, we can't wait. We've had this date circle for a long time, since the schedule came out, we said, look at the schedule, and people that talk to you and me, that are like Vikings fans, Packer fans, or not a fan of the Bears, they look at our schedule go, what is going on with your schedule? It's like, it's set up like college. You got all of these teams that are not in your division, and you don't play a division game until mid November, like, yeah, it's set up for Caleb, but it's set up for the Bears. It's like, for Caleb's gotta be like, now it's all the same to him, it's all tough, 'cause he's first time in the NFL, but it's gotta read like his time at USC, where it's like we play all these teams, and then now, blank gets real, because we're gonna play Detroit in Green Bay, in Minnesota, back to back to back to back, and here we go. So, I just think it's interesting, but at Tennessee game, as you said earlier last week, it's paramount for the Bears to get off to a great start. Paramount, absolutely paramount that they win that game. I'm not the must-win guy unless it can end your season, but it's about as close as it comes. You know, it is essential. You're playing a team that I believe you have more talent than. I believe you have the advantage at quarterback. It's in your building, and weather should not be a factor in September. It's not like you're playing a driving snowstorm, or brutally cold, let's go. Game on, you gotta win that game. I don't care if it's three to two. You gotta find a way that you're wanna know when you get on the plane to Houston. Let's go. - So, the question that's on our screen is how much would a slow start for the Bears shake your confidence, okay. So, I've never been this guy a cat that after one game, that's the end for the season, because it's a long season, especially when it's baseball. It's like, "Hey, you're off to a slow start." Doesn't mean that that's who you are at the end of the season, unless you're the White Sox. But when it comes to the Chicago Bears, yes, I think it's great for Caleb Williams and Roma Dunes A, and these Bears to be able to put it together at home to beat Tennessee. When it's shake my confidence, well, right now it's a nine. How much would my confidence be shaking to a seven if they lose the game? I still believe in the football team. Once I have set my one lost record up in my mind for the Bears, 10 wins, 11 wins, nine wins, whatever, I'm locked into it. I'm not shaking after a loss. So, to me, right now it's a nine. When they win, oh my God. - Here we go. - So, that's the question. He's asking like, how much would a slow start shake your confidence? - Even if Caleb Heaven forbid didn't play well, other than serious injury in week one, to a key player. Like, remember when Erlacher dislocated his thumb in the first half of the first game of the season to the Packers, and he said, I'm going back in and the doctor said, no, you're not. Because if you do any further damage, you might lose the use of your thumb for the rest of your life. You're done. And they had to do surgery and he was done. That was it. Like, that would be a devastating thing to lose a key player in the start of the season, devastating. But, if they go out, they're reasonably healthy coming out of it. And they're want to know, let's go. - Yeah. - That's it. - But, Shay's put in paying the scenario in the world in which if the Bears lost the Titans, how much they would shake my confidence. Well, listen, they're all going to be tough. Titans, and then you go on the road for two, at the Texans, at the Colts, coming back home against the Rams. That's your September schedule. - Okay. - Cap, I expect them to be able to go at least three in one. At least that's my hope for them to go three in one. And for the offense to percolate and for the defense, the no name defense, as we know them now, would you call them, Jay Moore, it's sweat and the droplets, did you say? - The drips. - Yes, yes, sweat and the drips. - Sweat in the drips. - Yes. - Pretty good. - I mean, if they're able to really get after the quarterback, I think there's the sky's the limit. - Wow, I really, really think this is a super talented roster better than we've seen in a long time. - Yeah. - Because even if you go back to 18, Caleb's better than Mitch, obviously. That team added Khalil Mack, Montez Sweat. He's that version. He may not be the national, the NFL defense player of the year that Khalil Mack was early in his career. But if you look, this defense may rival that one. May, we'll see. - The lovey Smith Bears that were around a lot, they don't want them to be that good. - Correct. - It's like Alex Brown, Lance Brie, would you stop? - Yeah. - O6 is the best defense other than the 85. - See, they don't want that this defense. And again, I say the no-name defense, and hopefully they will have a name outside of Montez Sweat. But these old bears, the lovey Smith Bear, they don't want this defense to be that good on that level. We had a caller last week that said that this could rival the 85 Bears. Well, you gotta get past Pina Tillman and Lance and Alex and Erlacher and Hunter Hillenmeyer and those guys first. I don't wanna go late. You gotta get past those guys first. - Really good? - Yeah, because those guys were swarming. That's the reason why the Bears even went to the Super Bowl against the Colts themselves. That defense carried it. They were scoring for the offense during that time as we recall. - Correct. - Rec Grossman was maybe the 11th most important person on that team. - So, Jaymore, you and I are old enough to remember the O6 season, the year they went to the Super Bowl. Shea was a baby back then. Shea, look up the box score of the Bears at the Arizona Cardinals. - Oh, God. - In 2006, Bears are getting crushed. Olin Crews gives an insanely uplifting speech. They said, it's one of the best speeches they've ever heard. Hold my beer, Jason, Hayward. And I believe I'm right on this. The Bears came all the way back and didn't score an offensive touchdown. Am I right? - Yeah, that's right. - Shea, look that up, I'm positive. They didn't, Devin Hester returned a punt. There was at least one pick six. Yes. - Yes. - And there's one 24/23. - Is that the, they are who we thought they were game? - Yes. - Yes, it is. - Rest in peace, Danny Green. Yes. - That sounds strong that defense was. - I was at Dittka's restaurant with my buddy Phil and a bunch of guys who were watching the game and they're at halftime, they all want to leave. Oh, this is horrible. Get the check, let's go. I'm like, relax, I've got another half a football here. And boom, here they come. Here they come. - Yeah. - Yes. - We're talking about a Mike Brown 3-yard defensive fumble return for a touchdown. - Yep. - We're talking about Charles Timo with a 40-yard defensive fumble return for a touchdown. - Yep. - Devin Hester with his 83-yard punt return. - Yep. - For a touchdown. - Yep. - Bears win 24/23. All that in the second half. - Did not get an offensive touchdown. - It came all the way back. - Yeah. - So. - That's what you're looking for when that's a team effort. - Yes. - And then, of course, they melt down by a den and green. - The Bears are what we thought they were. What we thought they were. We played them in preseason. Who the hell takes a third game in a preseason? Like it's (beep) We played them in a third game. Everybody played three quarters. The Bears are who we thought they were. That's why we took the damn field. Now, if you want to crown them, then crown the (beep) but they are what we thought they were. And we let 'em out the hook. (audience laughing) - That was so great. So when you break that down, Kat, when you break it down, that first half offensively, you know, they got nothing offensively, nothing. You know, exactly what we thought they were. Then the second half, you need the offense. The defense and the special teams whooped your ass. And that was all for Denny Green, fired. - Yep. - Shortly after that. - See you later. - Fire. - Thanks for coming, Denny. (laughing) - Yeah, that's what I'm saying. But I don't think people understood what he meant but then when you think about it, he's like, "Look at their offense, we got this." And they did. 20-0 at the half, Kat. 20 to nothing. - It's unbelievable. - And the Bears win that game 24-23. That's the kind of team effort I want to see from this Chicago Bears. This iteration of the Chicago Bears. - Same here. - I would like an offensive touchdown, person. - Well, I just hear, I understand. I would like to not have to come back from down that multiple scores. - But it's like, you know, Michigan State, the two seed and the tournaments losing to some horrible team in the turn and they find a way to win. - Yes. - And we just lose to middle Tennessee State. - Me? Shay? - Oh boy. - Shay, this outfit, the Chicago Bears, we have been a big 10 team for decades. - Yes. - That's who we've been. - Yes. - Linebacker, you're running back you. That's who we've been. The traditional big 10 team, that's what the Bears are. That's why they're so woven into the fabric of the Midwest because that reminds me what I watch on Saturdays. Terrible offense and strong defense in a running game. - Right, we were Iowa. - That's what we've been. - For decades. So I mean, again, Biggers can't be choosers, especially during that time. Shay, they barely were able to get past, you know, some teams offensively, but the defense was able to score for them and flip the field. As I said, my hope is that if the Bears struggle offensively at times, that the defense can be that opportunistic. Whatever it takes, there's a reason why there's three phases. If you rely on the arm of the quarterback 100% of the time, you're not gonna win 100% of the time, clearly, 'cause other people have to make plays. - Yep, completely. And in this case, the offense was so horrendous in that game that the defense and the special teams had to pick up the slack. - Yeah, we'll take care of it. - Yeah, just step out of the way. - Ask Waddle. - By the way, best wishes to Waddle. I think he's gonna be a grandfather today. Waddle said they were coming off the field when he was playing and Richard definitely get off the field. We'll take care of the scoring too. Just don't turn it over. - That's right. - So it was, man, 3-1-2-3-3-2-3-7-7-6-R-4 number. What would it take to shake your confidence in the Bears? We feel pretty good about it, but what if? That's always a question mark because of this unpredictable national football league. - Let's go. - Caleb Williams spoke to Waddle and Sylvie. You'll hear from Caleb next on The Captain Jhood Morning Show. - That bears what we thought they were. - Tune in. - Here's to Dave's headline, headline with Captain Jhood. - Well, it was a mixed bag in Chicago baseball yesterday. As the Chicago Cubs scored 18 runs. It means they'll probably score one today, but they pounded the Pirates' 18-8 at Riggly. Four hit night for Miguel Amaya. This dude since they gave him three days off in the beginning of July to get rid of his leg kick, he's got an OPS almost 900. He can go to the ESPN Chicago app, click Wild 'N' Silver. Bam, the interview's right there for you to hear in his entirety. You mentioned a number of things in a very interesting conversation. I first, like, so does having weapons change his style of play? The question that was posed with Caleb Williams. - Every year there's always a constant, you know, moment that you have to adapt and you realize what team you have. And so, you know, this year I've been adapting and changing my game. My mindset has been first down, second down. You know, keep his head to change. And then third down and things like that. If it's needed, it's time for the, you know, the X factor, you know, thing to come out. And then, you know, in the games and moments like that, it's time to, you know, play within it. And then when, you know, things break loose, just be smart, get down, get out of bounds, or, you know, throw touchdown completion. Things like that. But I understand the team that I have, you know, it's my ability to be able to adapt to our play and do it at a high level a year and a year out. - Yeah, in college cap, he's used to working with world-class talent when he's at USC. But of course, again, the NFL's a whole different animal, man. Like, he's got it ready-made. I mean, just like Andrew Luck with the Indianapolis, very few examples of saying, "Here you go, kid, we know you're a rookie, but here's two veteran wide receivers. Here's a rookie that's your friend. Here's veteran tight ends, offensive lines, still working in progress, but there's, least guys have done the job. So here you go. - Yeah, it was super cool to listen to that interview. And I thought he was, like, he gets hammered for interviews. - Hey, Hard Knocks wants to sit down with you. - Okay. - Big Cat and PFT want to sit down with you. Okay, I'll be there, it's a great show. We want you to do this, and that, oh, guess what, Waddle and Sylvie. Okay, let's go. And I thought, and I've listened to, maybe not everyone, but 98% of the interviews that kid has done since he became a Bears quarterback. I thought they got stuff out of him. Like when he said, people attacking my character and talking about me, I really found him open, honest, hats off to Waddle and Sylvie. I thought they did a great job at that interview. It's on the app. - I would say there's stuff where people are attacking my personality for, you know, for things that wasn't true. I think that bothered me because, you know, all my guys, all the people that I'm around, how I've, you know, grown up with my family and my, you know, my, my, my, my dad and mom. My mom's super caring. So I grew up in a very caring household. My dad, he cares for people that, you know, he'll help him out in any way that he can. So growing up in that type of household, you know, it's, it's, like I care for all my people that I, that I actually love and care for. And, you know, that I sacrifice days, time, effort, energy and all of that. Like, like here with the Bears, I care for my teammates. We go out and hang out, we do things. We do fun things and things like that. So when they're attacking, you know, my, my, my character and personality for stupid stuff of, of, of that, that will pop up and people would try and take it and run with it, you know, it bothered me some. So I would, I would screenshot some of those or, you know, when people talk about how I play and, you know, things like that, I would screenshot some of those and just, just add it to the motivation. You know, Cap, and everyone is different when it comes to social media. People are motivated in different ways. And for a young man like him, it's probably common place of saying all these haters, all these haters, it's the John Triffen line, you know, of... - For all the haters! - Say it with me! Say it proud for all the haters! - Step aside! - Stand up! - It's amazing how that's got into the bloodstream of our pop culture of calling someone a hater, but yet using that hate for fuel. Like haters are like people that I would say, stay away from those people, they don't support me, they're not in my circle. But for some, like a Caleb Williams, they need that. Or they want that. So that way, all the people that say, why is he paying his nails or why it's like prints with a football, why is he like this thing? Or, you know, his father wants to take over the league and also all this stuff. He uses it for fuel, saves it on his phone. And it's like, that's not for me, but definitely for him. - Yeah, and we've talked about this shoe and I, 'cause, you know, we're nowhere near him, but we still get our fair share of... - Oh yeah. - You know, somebody wants to be a jerk, blah, blah, blah. And I told you many, many years ago, some guy I thought crossed the line, and I'm writing back something I would, should not be tweeting. And my wife was standing behind me, I didn't know it. She's like, you can't hit send on that. I'm like, why not F this guy? And she's like, hun, you got a really good job. You got a beautiful family. Why do you care? How many followers does he have? He had like four. She's like, why do you care? And from that point on, this has gotta be 12 years ago. I was able to take that, appreciate it. No, I tweet that, appreciate you listening. Thanks for the follow, take that. - You tune out the metote now. - That's it. It's why it's tattooed on my arm. Tune out the outside noise. - But for young people, they're always in their phone, and they can't help but to see it. They could not, they could choose not to see it, but for Caleb Williams, that fuels him. The negativity, the question marks about him, about his personality, his life, and all that stuff. Hey man, whatever he needs to get the, to help to get the bears to Super Bowl, I'm all for it. But that's what he needs. If he needs that, a lot of guys, especially the modern athletes, like look at what this person is saying about me. Okay, that moves me even more to be able to be the best I can be. Whatever you need, man, just give me a Super Bowl. - Yeah. - It's just, it's interesting perspective he laid out there on waddle and Sylvie. - Agreed, that's why I wanted to shout out Waddle and Sylvie. I thought to get him to be, that is many interviews as he's done. There's funny moments, like, if there was a button there and I told you, you push it, one bears fan, random dies, but you win 10 Super Bowls. Fun question, my big cat and PFT. - Yeah. - Great. Not super revealing, just fun. - Yes. - That answer you just played? Oh man, I thought that was really, really interesting. If you're on hold, you will be on the air. 3-1-2-3-3-2-3-7-7-6 is our phone number. And we've got the audio all ready to go for tonight's Hard Knocks cap. - Let's go. - We know what the bear is gonna be talking about. It's gonna be a lot more spicy than we've seen in previous episodes. A lot more spicy. - Really? - You think this has been G-rated lately? We ain't 'til you hear what we have for Hard Knocks for tonight. We've got the audio and it's coming up on the Cap and Jane Good Morning Show. (upbeat music) - This is Romo Junze, this is the Andre Swift. This is Tyler Gordon. You're listening to Cap and Jane Hood on ESPN Chicago, the new home of the Chicago Bears. (upbeat music) - Good morning. (upbeat music) It's the Cap and Jane Good Morning Show on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. As we talk bears with you, Shout out to no-shot coming away at eight o'clock. (upbeat music) Let's go to Biloxi, Mississippi, listening on the ESPN Chicago app here's Jay on Cap and Jane Hood. Hey, Jay, good morning. Good morning, brothers, how are y'all? - We're good, what's up? (upbeat music) - So I'm super excited about the upcoming season. I think we're gonna see traditional bears ball, run it, defense for September. We're gonna go three and one. As the back half of the season comes, Caleb Williams should be settling down, getting used to the speed of the NFL and I think then that's when we're gonna open it up. - So you expect October for the offense to go vertical? - Yes, sir. And I'm pumped. We haven't had weapons like this in my lifetime as a bear forever. - Forever. - And also real quick, ooh, I can fix the white socks for y'all. Just watch it on mute and play the Benny Hill song in the background. (laughing) - The delivery's outstanding. - It really is. (laughing) So the question we had this morning, the seven o'clock hour is, is there something that would shake your confidence? You know, that first game was against Tennessee. So would it shake your confidence if they fell short in that game? I'll go have to a slow start. You say no? - No sir, not at all. You know, I think he's gonna be the answer, but we gotta remember he's a rookie. You know, and it's gonna take him a minute to get used to the league. But like I said, the back half, watch out, buddy. - No, no question. Jay, we appreciate your telephone call. I've told my partner, hey, this is a rookie, just like a doomsday is a rookie. The guy get acclimated to the league. So what cap has done is, he's taken all his T-shirts and hoodies that you could find and he took off the chasing and just has greatness. Caleb greatness. He's changed them all. I mean, that's quite the process, but he's looking for the greatness right away. - Like white out, that's a lot of white out, geez. On a T-shirt and a hoodie, that's for sure. - There you go. - Southside Scotty on cap and Jay Hood. Scotty, good morning. - Hey guys, what's going on? First up, shout out to all the hard working union brothers and sisters on this hot thing. - Yes sir. - May I ask you a question, as a union man, would you prefer the hot weather like this? Or I told you it was 15 below? - You know what cap they most think. You know what I'm saying? Come on, you know what, that's a bad question. 'Cause right now I would want 15 below, but we are what we are today. - That's right. - I would take the heat, but go on. - I mean, you're not sweating out here like I am. So you might have a different opinion. - That's true. - 75 degrees, you're in the studio? - Yeah. - So my feeling on it is what the beers need, what we need is fans. What we need is fans is for us, 10 days, 12 days, whatever it is, opening day, there's the win to kick. Win the coin toss, take the ball, drive the ball down the field, score touchdown. Kayla Williams, the room with DJ. Let's just get that one over with, and let's just get this thing fired up. I called months ago, told you I thought Justin Fields was the man, but I am Southside God. So I'm with you until I'm not with you no more. So that's why I've had Justin Fields. But this is a new era, this is, it's a great time to be a bearish man. It is amazing. - Scotty, there's no doubt. That's a good call. We appreciate your telephone call. - Have a great day, man, stay cool. So you know, it's a hard knocks Tuesday, Kayla. - Yeah, I cannot wait. And despite the goofball behind the glass, and I'm not speaking of the legendary Jay Moore. - Yes. - Are you getting too over it? - That's Shay, hit the break. - I'm too over it. - Guess what, I can't wait. - On the couch tonight, I got baseball and two screens. And hard knocks on the big screen, let's go. - Contents, contents, especially when it comes to Chicago Bears, but luckily you and I are privy to the audio. You will give you a little flavor of what you can expect tonight on hard knocks. Should be great on HBO Max. Let's listen to one of the coaches. - And that's very, (beep) a bear, better wake up and get some pride in the game. Come in here, go out there. Play like (beep) - Damn. - Now the (beep) is coach, the right way. I don't wear any excuses. Selfish (beep) - Damn. - Wow. - What the hell is this? Look at this crap. That ain't you, you got it? Really don't care about it. Selfish and act as you can be. Roll the (beep) up. One, two, three, four. You got it, heavy man? Number four, let's see, yeah. Who do you want? You got three to two. Do you start on defense? No. So what are you gonna do? Sit your ass around on the side of life and watch (beep) get it? - Damn. - We have enough people around here doing this (beep) now I've been telling you for two years. Right there, the same crap. Do you start? You a superstar? How many pro balls you've got you been to? You got a gold jacket? So who are you? I'm gonna tell ya, coach Smith asked me what do you think? I ain't got Malachi grooming. He don't want it, coach. That's what's getting said. He don't want it. Told you, right to your face. - Hard knocks. Tonight. That's right. What's that, Jay Moore? Hold on. Oh, beg your pardon. Hard knocks Atlanta Falcons. - Oh, wow. - Keith Armstrong. (laughing) - Beg your pardon. - I thought, I thought-- - I'm not sure I used to be one of our assistants. - Yeah, yeah, Jay Moore's telling me now. - Yeah, hard knocks Atlanta Falcons. - That's what we're missing, Cap. Him putting his foot in the player's ass. If Keith was like that with the Bears, oh God. - No wonder he's not here anymore. He went to the Falcons, fed up. - He's ready. - No wonder he's out of there. George heard it down the hall. - Keith, it's getting a little hot and heavy in the locker room, huh? - I heard, saying that someone's not wearing a jacket. We've got plenty in the closet. That's not what I mean. Gold jacket. - We're gonna send you to Atlanta. - He's a little bit vulnerable. We might want to ship him out. I don't want to be metal some because I'm just a fan, but oh boy. Why don't you get my steps in? Good day. - Cap. - That's what's missing in hard knocks, right? - What? - But here's the thing, there were four norm preseason. No one's yelling like that. I don't think with the Bears staff. Maybe there's a mistakes in practice and they're cleaning it up in the games that we saw, but Keith Armstrong, that was commonplace. That was hard knocks. Not this year though. - That was awesome. - Imagine if Virginia, you set her down in front of the big screen. Here you go, mom. Wheel her right up there, right up to the TV. Turn it on. And you hear. - Here, here's one of our coaches, mom. - And that's very f***ing bad. Oh God. You better wake up and get some pride in your game. - Oh, geez. - Come in here. Go right there. Play like f***ing. Now that f***ing is coach, the right way. I don't wear any excuses. (dramatic music) - Selfish f***ing. - Oh God. Selfish. P-word. Christ. - That's great, man. I miss that so much. - That's the furthest blast. - That is awesome. - Holy cow. Imagine that. Now you want that Bears fans? - Yeah. - But there are four no and everything's harmonious. Everything's fine. Co-Tuber Flus. Good program. Falcons, Garbage. (laughing) At that time, apparently. Wow. You haven't heard not one bleep, not one. But that, hmm. We'll have more exclusive audio apparently coming up. Jay Moore's telling me. Yep, yep, we have more audio coming. Later on, hard knocks. We'll get the right one this time, Cap. They're real hard knocks. You want to get the real hard knocks coming up. But my God. - That's awesome. - What if that was the bear? - Bear be in trouble. - I will bet you this. I'm actually speaking in a fairly informed manner here. There's more of maybe not that, but it is not all peaches and cream up there. That there is profanity and yelling. It's 85 volatile football players. As they're pairing this thing down, George just doesn't like you to see it. - That's fine. - It's his right. And I will tell you this. He's talking to one of my neighbors. And he said, it's the first time I've been able to watch hard knocks with my son. - Understood. - So I get it. - All right, we got you out of no shot. That's in two minutes on Cap and Jay Moore. - And that's Bear.
