Michael Taff, the Longwards safety, was visiting with the media yesterday, and you know how it is in this town. It's going to be hard hitting media questions. People hard, you know, like whose idea was it for Taff to get a haircut? Oh, we were in the weight room and it was me quin and trail and Quinn was kind of just like, you know, if I get a bus cut, we all, and I was like, "Yes, screw, why not senior year?" So we all decided to get a little bus cut, you know, tape or fade. It's a limit to distractions, it's season time, it's senior year, time to go in and atty. So just, whatever, I think it was good, but, you know, my girlfriend says otherwise. Oh, yeah, that's kind of what counts after all, isn't it there? Taff was asked what, really and truly, what is he most excited about during game week? We don't have to play each other anymore for the last going back from summer, spring, and now fall, can't blast, six months, we get to play somebody else. So it's fun to get ready to face another opponent and not just go against our really good receivers, our really good running backs because, you know, that just gets tiring. I'm excited to play a new competition and just get the season started. They get the season started against Colorado State earlier in the program we visited with Brian Rotter, play by play voice, and I asked him about their dangerous wide receiver and punt returner, Tori Horton, and of course, you'll want to ask a safety about an outstanding receiver, which is what Taff was asked about Tori Horton. Number 14, he's long, he's fast, he's got really good routes, and then he goes up and gets the ball. The quarterback places it, you know, where he needs to place it, whether receivers can make a play on the ball. So it's a really good challenge for us as a secondary, you know, they were top 15 and passing in the whole country last year. So we got a really good challenge, week one, we're focusing on Colorado State, and so I'm excited to go compete, you know, I'm excited for this quarterback and this set of receivers. So among the challenges is when I'm getting the guy to the ground tackling him. Yeah, well, main focus, you know, eliminate, eliminate the missed tackles. I think week one, you know, just across the country, the main focus for defensive guys is tackling, because you haven't gone live, really, in fall camp, and so this is the first type of live, real live challenge for defense. And so tackling is always the main emphasis, and that starts with myself. I can't preach tackling to my guys if I'm not doing it myself. So I got to first take tackling to heart, make every single tackle that is presented to myself, but then also preach it to the guys. And like I said, number 14, he's long physical, you know, goes up and gets the ball. He's fast. He's got good routes. So he's going to try to make us miss, and when he gets the ball out in the perimeter. Yeah. All of us. I mean, he moves around a lot. Yeah, he moves around. He's usually at number one, but he goes in the slot and empty sets and third down, he moves around. All of us are going to get our fair share of covering him, but you know, no disrespect to the other receivers. They got a receiver that transferred from Baylor that, you know, is a really good receiver. They got a receiver that's coming back in the slot. They got a tie-to-end from junior college that is tall and physical, that can catch the ball, and then they use their running backs as receiving threats too. So, you know, they got a bunch of threats. Their air raid offense, you know, that guy that runs that offense, his dad, I think, invented the air raid offense. So, you know, they utilized their threats on the perimeter. He's referring to Matt Mummy, who's the son of Hal Mummy, the kind of the father of that air raid attack. So since we're talking about tackling, have they done a better attack job of tackling in fall camp? Yeah, 100%. I think the live aspects of fall camp, we tackled a lot better. We were a good tackling team. We think we made 80% of tackles last year, and that's really good in comparison to across the country. Now, if we looked at it, if you, you know, just cut it down to 5%, if you make 85% of those tackles, then you eliminate, like, 900 yards. So a lot of times people look at just how many yards they get on the air. Well, it wasn't really just on the DBs. It's on the whole team. If they run a dual screen, then it's considered a passing game. Well, if everybody on the team misses a tackle, then it goes for 99 yards. That's 99 yards in the air. So if we eliminate those tackle, those missed tackles, then we're going to be a denga team. He's a denga football player and heady and really read reminds me a lot the way he plays, the way he quarterbacks in the secondary, so to speak, reminds me a lot of when his position coach, Blake Gideon, was playing at Texas, very similar type of player in the way that he ran around back in the secondary and kind of managed some things. Earl Thomas will tell you that he never would have attained the All-American status in college and then got to play as many years as he did in NFL, if not for Blake Gideon, helping him out a lot, putting him in the right spot, pointing him out and Taft, I think, does some of that as well. All right, we'll hear more from Mookie Taft coming up next hour, as well as from Quinn Ewers, and we'll be back to wrap up hour number two on Sports Radio AM 13 under the zone - Excuse me, what's the weirdest place you've gotten, Lucky?
