- Welcome to the Fantasy Amateurs and Boomer Bus collaboration for 2024. We have joined forces to bring you the best content for our fantasy experts and fantasy nuggets, reviewing the teams, the week that was, and entering all of your questions. (upbeat music) - Good evening, and welcome to the Boomer Bus and NRO Fantasy Amateurs Questions Club for 2024. I'm your host Stuart Lloyd. Tonight, I'm joined by Nick Lord, mate. busy week last week, how you going? - What a doo, baby, going good mate, going good. Yeah, mate, it's a crazy, crazy time of year, isn't it? So, yeah, how you going? - Yeah, doing good. The just interesting week, a lot of head-to-head finals this week may be decided by a lot of these team lists, though. Nick, bit spicy from the storm to rest players two days out, but I guess five-day turnaround could be influencing that, correct? - Well, that's what Craig Bellamy said. - Yeah, well, to be fair, five-day turnaround up to steamy townsville from Melbourne in the middle of winter, yeah, I'd probably be dodging that too. All right, so let's have a look here. We obviously won down towards the end of the season, if you listen to him, I wonder why it's so short. Well, there just really are not that many questions. Most people are out of trades, or if wrapped up for the season. So, but look guys, send us through your questions as they come, and we'll keep on asking them. Ed asks, considering how the Panthers went last round, is it going to be a risk running them during the finals? Nick, I'm interested to hear your take on that one. - As in finals for this week and next week? - Yes, yes, that's what I mean. - Well, I mean, as I know, went really well last week, so I think he'll continue to do well. The other fantasy-relevant Panthers being Joe Luai, he sort of pooped the bed and Dylan Edwards as well, got a 31, so I'd look for them to bounce back this week. They've got a pretty soft game against the bunnies. The bunnies have nothing to play for, and they just lost Cam Murray. - And the Titans, too. - So, week after. - Exactly, and the Titans are out of the race now. They're packing you down on leaking points left, right in the center. So, and the weather's obviously warming up too, which is conducive to attacking footies. So, you know, I really like it with this week, personally, if you need a trading and if you got Luai, then I think he should go pretty well this week as well. - That's it. I think last week it was one of those ones where they were just, it's that week of adjustment and they, the way that they play, they often don't blow sides off the park, so that late intercept was just the point of difference for them, like we wouldn't be worried about them if they won by two points. But I think the harder that they have to play the more fantasy points they'll score, I think it's those games where they clock off where you really get cut. - Yeah, great. And, you know, Brad Snyder did a bit more than Jack Cole, who's out for the rest of the season now. So, it'd definitely be Brad Schneider for the next couple of weeks. So, you know, the players like James Fisher Harris and Brian Toto, they should, they should be a bit better this week than last week. You know, Toto got a 31. Fisher Harris, what did he get? He got a, or 59 from Fisher Harris, it's just pretty good. - Yeah, they were all playing through the middle. So, I'd expect something similar from Fisher Harris this week as well. - That's it, he's putting it all in. That's the thing is that these guys like Fisher Harris and to a lesser extent, you know, haven't had to put in these 80-point performances or 60-point performances last few years because that's how you back up next week really well, is if you run an 85, 90% each week, rather than going all out, because the chance of getting injured when you go all out, very much higher. So, look, I expect to see better fantasy points. And from listening, I've been clear, his press conference, he really wants the team to have some playing time together. So, he's on like a bit of rest as well. - Yep, I think so too. - All right. Brian Galea is going head to head cash league grand final this week. Got seven players out that played last week, scoring in a solid 10.60. So, he's got five-piece pull out. He's got shoes out, Murray out, Grant out, and a few others, but he's out of trade. So, yeah, sorry, Brian. This is, this story could keep from this, right? I had a whole bunch of potential trades, but obviously he's, he's cooked. - No trades though. - Yeah, he's saying thanks for the good year. Thank you, Ryan, for your questions. Listen to the podcast. - I hope your opponent doesn't have any trades either. - Oh, that's it, mate. Imagine going in this week. So, all I can say is Nick is that you might be in for business price this week. So. - Yeah, I was doing the maths. So, I'm up against brother in the fantasy league. And I know he's counseled by you, but I was looking at the maths today, 'cause he's got Grant, Hughes, Katoa, and Murray all out. And they're all with like 750 K also. So, and he's got a bit of money. The bank's got like three million. Based on who's still like going around, he can buy anyone, anyone. So, it can be as a, it can match up or get some spice, whatever he wants to do, really. So, it's a bit disappointing that there are no like, Nico Hines or queries or the trails or good or. - Hines could be back this week, but I'm not sure that I would trust Hines, even if he's a late entry this week. - Yeah, he won't be kicking. - He won't be goal-kicking, right? - Well, that's the danger, right? Like, and yeah, or if he's not, he might not be field-kicking, he might just be running around, he might be down, you don't know, right? Are you willing to bet your season on that? - No, no. - All right. Discord has some-- - Or am I. (laughs) - Discord has some questions this week. Three to three, 16, says Kiara Warriors, no trails, no questions, just a lot of thanks for all the effort. And Chaimi Bois putting it on the course of the season. - Have us made it into his grand final. Well done, mate. All the best for you guys in the final two rounds. Yeah, me too, mate. Hopefully, mate, Nikhai, the Get Your Head To Final or even better, my apprentice Rob gets into the Head To Head Final against me. And we can go from there. Though, I must say, I may be playing with 17 this week, possibly 16, so we'll see how we go. - Yep. - All right, Mary Bowles going is, she get Hudson Young or Ken Kollong with Tony this week. I'm probably for Ellie Kitawa. Who are you thinking, Nikh? - I'm thinking Kollong with Tony. - Yeah, me too, two weeks to go. I reckon that if there's going to be someone up for the fight, it will probably be him. - Yeah, I think he'll make playing tackles. And he'll have to play long minutes, like 60 to 70 minutes, you'd think in the middle. - He should be playing with 60 to 70. - Yeah. - Yeah, looks like it. - I'm just checking this game too, actually, 'cause it's a Friday, 8 p.m. game. I would have thought at the beginning of the year, this would have been a cracker of a game, right? But not anymore. - Oh, like game of the year sort of thing, right? Like it would have been awesome if everyone was healthy. - That's it. So, look at the bench. - It's a big point. - It's painted by Missoulis, host on Burgess and Haveli. Obviously, Murray drops out, which means having a look here, like Liam LeBlanc, or someone's going to come in. - Yeah, I'm having a look here. - Liam LeBlanc or Brock Gray, right? Like we're in rule like a time now. So, yeah. - Yeah. - Where's Hudson Young's just like, you know. - And they got the roosters in Scoundrel. - And who's they got round 27? They could get blown up against the roosters, 'cause the roosters, once they get going, they are able to put a score on pretty quickly. This year, they're all at attack. And next week, they got the rabbitos. So, oh, so, no, that's the roosters who got the rabbitos. - They got the dragons. - Yeah. Like, he could go right against the dragons, but yeah, it's not the edges, but she's the issues of dragons. All right, so, look, I'd probably get a kilometer. B.K.T. is Benedict. He says going to Grandfather with two trades and should be favored. Pop two targets from Cook, Little, Turbo, Burton, Bologna Tengy, Pongar, or Heinz/Hars if they're playing. - Yeah, so, I think Turbo and Burton, they're up against each other. And I'm not sure either of those guys are totally gonna pop off. Like, obviously, it could happen. You know, Turbo went for a 90, but it was a pretty high scoring game with the three tries. - I just don't think he's gonna get that against the Bulldogs. I think he's probably gonna be quite weak. - No, I reckon on the end. - Across the stripe or come in for two trices, I put him up for one of those two because he does have that beautiful leg cut out ball, but yeah, he's probably not gonna get three, right? - I'm thinking maybe like something in the 40 to 50 range, right? Like not a 70 to 90. Like, I just don't see it happening again. I mean, no Stephen Crichton, which is important because Turbo likes to go left, Crichton depends on the right. So he should go a little bit better than he would have otherwise if Crichton was there obviously, but I still don't think he's gonna quite make it theirs. So it turns you hooking options. Look, Damien Cook last week got a bit of a spell. He sort of retained that middle role at the moment. So whether he plays a bit of lock with Murray not being there, maybe does get the full 80, I suppose. I think Little's probably a safer option between Cook and Little. I probably lean little. - Yeah. Me too. - Yeah, I'm a tongue you've already talked, I'm a tongue you've already talked about, but Stu, what are your thoughts on Colin Pong in this week? - Look, Colin Pong was looking decent last week, pulled out a decent score, which is nice. I'm just checking the posters where he gets the titans. I reckon he will do pretty well 'cause the nights are still playing on that like outside chance, right? So they just have to keep on winning. I reckon he will pump it pretty hard there. A.G. Brimpson's gone for the season. I'm just looking at the squad here. - Brimpson best is back, so he'll have his good mate out of the center, so they've got to respect the run a little bit more out there as well. When he goes-- - Absolutely. That left hand side should be much better. - Yes, so they will respect the run more. Having a look at the rest of the squad, Dylan Lucas is back on an inch as well. So he, again, they've got dangers all around here now. So I reckon that Pong will have a better time against it. So he, I reckon if you would pick in two from this week, I would probably pick Ponger and Little. If I was picking those, 'cause Heinz, I think we just spoke about concerns and pain tasks, I can't believe that they're playing this guy, right? Then I want to say their most important play out, like as far as like keeping the structure of this team together, right? Even more important than Patty, as far as like he's the guy who can give them the go for when they need it as well as the tackling. - Real, real work horse, but also impact plays. He's one of those guys who's both sides of the ball, but they're risking him with almost nothing to play for. Like I know that Kevin wants to try and get him into the finals, but he could be at most next season. - It's just unbelievable, isn't it? - If he gets the wrong sort of tackle with this, if his foot was on its way towards a less frank, right, Nick, he could be hooked, kind of like, Mariner was cooked for a season and a half, right? - Yeah. - I just, I know, I'm baffled. - Yeah. - I know it was-- - Well, Kevin's obviously feeling the pressure, right? - He must be, dude. He must be like, and they must be in the equation to becoming, like, 'cause obviously they got the dolphins this week, which, you know, they should rate themselves up against. And then the following week, they have the storm. So they're really good at hoping for the storm risk to everyone again, right? - Yeah, I don't see them beating a full strength storm. - No, I don't either, but I guess, you know, they want to assist me out. So look, I can certainly see Haas getting some reduced minutes this week to just try and keep the lights on. - Yep. - They even bench or just coming in 20 minutes and 20, I think. - Yeah, or maybe a 40 minutes thin and just get them off, you know, how do they? I don't know how foot, how do they have feet react in these sort of situations, you know? It's not a muscle, but yeah, he'll need-- - Well, he stands in tackles, which means he's often got like full weight of people coming down on him. So if you're on one foot, I want you to imagine, you're weight as you're, plus you're trying to walk forward, right? So you're weight plus your muscle movement, plus people hanging on you trying to pull you down. That's how he did it the first time I saw it. I'm like, oh, that's ugly. They really had those tackles where you're going, I've got two people trying to like full body weight on them and the guy's still trying to walk forward rather than collapse, you know? - Mm-hmm. - Look, and the catch up is going bonus question with Stu Candy's sandwiches two early a couple weeks ago. I was made, I thought that's-- (laughing) I thought that Dom Young was done for the season. I thought that he was-- - It has one more, there's one more in the next two games. - That's exactly right. I need him to do what he did a few weeks back and just like massacre a dude two minutes in with a head high tackle and get bend. (laughing) Or sent off, that would do me very nicely. When, I think it was when the Bulldogs did the boilover against the roosters earlier on the season. - Yeah, yeah. - And he like killed a dude. - Yep. - Anyway. - You're right, that's exactly right. He got the negative 12. - Yeah, that's it. All right, let's hope for that again. - It's definitely a within his range of outcomes. He could also get a quadruple, right? - And then I cooked. - Okay. - Mainly Monty goes, in my draft final, who does he captain out of Turbofog in Gus Gago, or Lucas? - Oh. - I like captains in draft A. I think we banned it 'cause we said Cleary was OP. - Well, he was, that's the issue is that Cleary and like coins before this year, right? With the OP captains. - Yeah, he had those, yeah. - And so, oh, you got the 12th draft pick. Okay, great. Oh, now I have, I have a guy who's also gonna be at seven weeks during the origin and is decent, right? - Yeah, I got Pongar, great. (laughing) - Yeah. - So, it's a bit of a rough one. But if you were choosing a captain, Nick, who would you be choosing at that mob this week? - I think maybe Gus Crutton. - Yeah. - Oh, Fogarty, depends on how you feel. But Fogarty's safe, Crutton. - Try and make up some points, eh? - Well, Crutton's up against the Raiders. And yeah, I think he could go pretty well. They're like all out of attack from the roosters. They're at home, Raiders are in the toilet. Like, they're corked, so. - Oh, really? - Yeah, I'm waiting for you. - This position is list of, list of people he's never gonna talk to you now. Aren't you lucky? All right, let's get to the next set of questions. Peter Manini goes head to head final this week, projected to win two trades left. He's going clearly to Burton. But the other one's to see go Ellie Catoa to Angus Crutton. And does he match his opponent and go for Yo instead? I'm figuring, go for Yo instead anyway. What about you? - Yes, Crutton off a three, try 80. Or a Yo off a zero, try 80. - Yeah, I agree. - It's not hard. - I agree, I agree, yeah. - All right, Nick, head to head, so Nick Morgan is also going head to head grand final this week. No trades. Screwed by Storm Wrestling players, Raymond's suspension, McLean dropped in Galvin by fitting into the chaos. Yes, that's probably about six players out. Well guys, I tell you now, like I know that, you know, I went pretty hard early on and into ranks, right? And into the by rounds, which kind of paid dividends with my rank, but it makes it hard for head to head if you poke this time of year. - Yeah. - Like, yeah, it's rough. All right, Joe Ward, best mid to replace my thinking collar. Yes, we agree. 'Cause he's already got Yo, Kerrigan and Plath who have the other good ones. Are there any other middles who you would say would be worth trading this week, Nick? I was thinking Tapanese was the other guy who caught my eye when I was looking through before. How about you? - Yeah, Tapanese, he's been going really well. So yeah, I think I think collar or Tapanese, I think. - Yep, I'd avoid all of the storing middles. - Oh yeah. - So not the storm, they were the warriors' middles. So like Barnett and- - Yeah, Neil Blake. I'm just trying to think of this now. - I mean, if you've only got one, we're going to play, that'd be fine. Like if you're on the head to head final, then you could look at Barnett or AFB. - Yeah, I guess so. I'd probably be more Kenan Kota, but- - Yeah, Kota. - Yeah, he's back this way. - But they could blow out the storm and just rest him, right? - Yeah, they could. They could, you're right. - But the fact that- - I think the warriors against the sharks, that we pretty through the middle, I would have thought. - Oh, the warriors would be- - They've just been pretty bad at it, that's all. - Yeah, yeah. I think I don't know if Neil Blake's a pretty solid option if you just need a mid for this week only. - Yeah, I guess if he- - Final game. - Would you have him over for a long time? - He's 41. Yeah, yeah, 61, 68, 75, yeah. - Yeah, he's been playing nearly 70 minutes. It's been crazy. He's been grateful. - Okay. - Like five, six weeks now. Yeah, he's only a one bad score in the last like six, seven weeks though. - Fair enough. Last time I looked at him, he must have had that score then. 'Cause I was like, "No." And then, yeah, I'm looking at this stats here, right? He's doing well. Same with Tophane, actually. He's been doing right the last few years. Like, everyone's running in his scores for next year, right? - Yeah, exactly. Just in time. - That's it. All right, but yeah, AFE, actually, I'm changing my tune on him seeing that. Yeah, AFE is a pretty good one. - All right. So he's thinking about three trades, Gerald, he's singing "Mari to Kuala Aumutangi." five-piece Paul de Ponga, and "Greens to Little" with two trades left. Mate, I don't understand why we're giving you advice. Mate, if you got those three trades and then two trades left, you're doing pretty well. - Mate, you boxed into these trades. There were no other options. - Like five-piece Paul, you could pick some other guys like Burton or someone. - Yeah, fair enough. Yeah, but there's not, there's not many choices. Like it's, it sort of picks itself like, if you just look at the guys in form, you know? - That's, it's just so many injuries. Like it's just, it makes it pretty easy, really. - It really does. But Paul Gray is looking like great. - Mark Reid has a suggestion. He says, "Would you support the change "to increase the price of players with DPP? "So either a 10% increase in price "or just a flat 50K at the beginning of the year?" - Don't, why does it need to be an increased price? - Well, I think because of the extra utility that they offer, like, you know, at one point this year, I was running like seven DPPs, right? Like Widernake and, you know, like everyone like that. Karaz, Garak, because they could call along with Tengi, 'cause they could fill all the spots, right? Bobo, laugh. So if you're running all these DPPs, you don't need to really worry about positions anymore because you're not really playing people in position half the time anyway. - Yeah, but that shouldn't be a penalty for that player and I think, like, like Karaz, for example, he's like pretty much down the line, there's a knee between center and wing full back. Like, why should he cause more for that? - Yeah, I guess so. So look, I feel the issue is like feeling the Jack White and Holland center, so it's like actually your best center is in the center type of thing. That's all. Although, Cal Ira has been playing pretty well, Nick. - Amazing. - And the 67th. - Mate, I'm hoping I get revenge, though, 'cause I traded Iro for Pappanowsen, and which has been pretty doo-doo-doo so far. But hopefully, Pappanowsen gets the goal-kicking back this week. So, against the Cowboys, you never know what can happen, the Cowboys can roll over and throw out. - They could also slap him in Papp's scores like a minus three and break his leg. - Oh, I don't know. - It's an ugly week. - I'm not captaining Papp's, I'm not captaining him. - But he's got the goal-kicking. I'm just, I'm hoping, okay, I'm hoping. - You're starting in this week, though? - Nah, I'm looping him. - Fair enough, that's a clever move, like it. - Oh, right, Mitchell Currell is going, one-traded to Prelim, used to yo, Galvanter Burton, or Howarth Tamanu. Used to yo gives me the vibes, what about you, Nick? - It's the Prelim, though, so he's got to play next week. - Yeah, yo. - Yeah, I'm sort of thinking, could you go like, Galvanter yo, maybe? - I think he doesn't have the money, that's why. - Yeah, right. - So, unlike I'm looking there, Howarth Tamanu is, because he probably doesn't have four-in-a-kind to make to go Howarth to yo, correct, so. - Yeah, I think, yeah. - Yeah, used as Brisbane next week, where, oh, yeah, Galvan is at Eels, yeah, I'd be, yeah, you can hold it to Galvan for next week. - Yeah, sure, go used to yo, that's fine. - That's it, and Darren, and Jared, last question, it says three left, but probably five out with storms resting, yeah, mate. It's rough this time of year if you had some trades left, but they've all been soaked up by storm resting players. That's the issue, though, you've got the benefit of all of these storm players, haven't played Origin, you've got the points out of them. - Yes, you'll miss this week, but you'll probably still end up ahead, like, use this squad hugely for me since I picked him up, what about you, Nick? - Yeah, I've been happy with, especially Katoa, which you told me to get on earlier in the year, and I did, I was really happy with him, so, yeah, those two guys not playing Origin has been, it's been really handy, and Howarth has been a decent cash cow, you know, towards the back end of the year and filling in Edge and Center as well. Yeah, really handy, those sorts of guys, and I think you'd be probably most annoyed with Grant, right? 'Cause hookers just being such a dog's breakfast this week, like losing another hooker this week, would be such a pain. - Yeah, no, it would be. So, yeah, him being rest this week would certainly be a bit of a pain in the ass. - All I'll say is that if you picked up use around 14, right, which a lot of people do, you've scored 671 points since then, off the back of it. So, it's like-- - Yeah, nice, what was your price then, how much cash? - I've bought it by 11, so he's averaged 61, right? Since then. - Yep. - And he's made no money. (laughing) - Yeah, it doesn't really matter. He's just like you, as consistency and availability, yeah. - Well, you made some money, haven't you? - What was your price around 14? - 746, yeah, okay, so he's just on the 40. So, yeah, he has, yeah, he's just-- - Somehow, he's managed to average 61 across that time, so you just say thank you very much. - The same is a dalium, the same is a dalium favourite, which is crazy for mine, like-- - All right, but if you could win dalium, like it just speaks to interest. - Everyone's been injured, dude, that's the hardest thing. It's that everyone has been injured or suspended throughout the year, and so, who's fighting for dalium this year? - I won't. - Can't be clear, you can't be hinds, can't be pong-a, right? Or cop-long injuries, right? - Seriously, Zach, way back to me, like, I don't know. - Well, they haven't won enough games, right? Like Ben Hunt would probably be close. - Yeah, I don't know. - In that team, no, obviously, Ben Hunt would probably be top five somewhere. Bulldogs have shared it too many times. Like, people saying Steve Crichton's a great buy, but it's been their best player a lot of games, right? - Yep. - Neither does Maddie Burke, no, be honest with you. Like, he's been good some games, but not others. It's like, who else is there? - Teddy's been good, and they're saying he's a chance. - He certainly isn't there games. Like, the, he has to have the issue that everyone's drinking each other's milkshake. Like, some weeks it's everywhere, some weeks it's lower, some weeks it's here getting the points. Like, it's not the one player. Broncos, they've just been pretty up and down all year. So, like, who's left? - Yeah, it's, it's not a great Dalian leaderboard. It's going to be very interesting to watch the actual points be awarded. It should be really close, eh? - That's it. Well, hopefully some of them actually watched the game this year. So, but you're going into closed ones, and we'll talk about the guys who are probably out of contention, right? So Dylan Edwards, obviously missed a few games and had a bit of a down form post origin, had a couple of knee injuries, right? Nikos had the ankle injury. Daily Chair Evans has been down on form. Like, this is going into closed session, right? - Yep. - After this, we have, we dropped down to Isaiah Yoh and to Desco on 24 and 23 points, right? So that's only a couple of games behind. Then it's kick out Isaiah Katoa, Pat Kerrigan, Turbo and Lomax. - Yeah. - So, yeah, looking at this one's mate, and look, someone could come from the clouds, like Maddy Burton's down there on 16. It's not that far off. It's like three games, all games behind Yoh with the points. - Yeah. - Are three, three-- - Yeah, you tell you, right? - Yeah. - So, actually, I think they offer six points per game now 'cause they get two lots of scores per game. - Yeah, you're right. - So, yeah, it would be anyone, really. - He was started when they went into closed session on 16. So, but he's got on his run since round 13 when they closed the votes in here. - Yeah, I don't know who else it could be. Like, yeah, it's-- - Mm. - So, Katara's kind of fallen off a little bit. Like, I would've said he would've been shot a few weeks ago. - Maddy Burton, maybe? - Maybe. - Could he? - He missed a few games for 18th mean, though. - No, he only missed a couple, though. He only missed, like, two games a whole year. He's played basically everything, and he's been not excellent for them, but he's been basically Jerome Hughes level, I think. - Yeah, and he's been there on their run. They've ever since they put Toby Sexton in, he has been there on their run, and they haven't had any standout stars. - No, they haven't. - All the points. I'm trying to think Titans aren't threatening, the Raiders aren't really threatening. Like, for a really good engine, no one else has been killing it up there. Yeah, it's tough, eh? Oh, well. - Yeah, Maddy Burton's played 21 games so far, and he's got two, so he's only missed two games so far, or one game so far. - Oh, yeah, 'cause of the bias. One of them was from Chris's buy-around, got it. - Yeah. - And look, Turbo has played pretty well, but I think he probably missed too many games, right? Can't do it again. - Nah, nah, I don't think his form has warranted all those points that he accumulated previously, so. - That's it, yeah. - Or the only issue, six points per game, if you do get the six points for like three or four games in a row, you can race your way up the leaderboard. That's the only downside. Anyway. - Yeah, but he just hasn't played enough. - That's true. - Did you play a game with the centers as well? You played a game around 18 in the centers, so like, he's getting nothing for that, you know? - Yeah, it's tough, eh? - All right, well, look, let's, let's, I guess, we'll get to the daily end of season couple weeks, so obviously, if anything wild happens, keep an eye out for that one. And, you know, make sure the judges for those weeks actually watch the game up with possibly within the state, right? - Sure, don't ruin. - That's it. Nick, any final thoughts for this week? - Oh, mate, it's a bit of a quick year, isn't it? So. - That's it, listen. - Yeah, 30 minutes. - All right. Well, look, thank you to everyone at home who's listening. Thank you, I guess, for your support this year and all the best for the head-toed finals or prelude finals this week. If you're still in the running, and if you're still in running for one of those spots, keep on pushing for those ranks, fellas.
