>> NBC News Radio, I'm Lisa Taylor, former President Trump is being charged in a superseding indictment in his federal January 6 election interference case. A federal grand jury in Washington DC returned the superseding indictment today. The Department of Justice said the superseding indictment reflects the government's efforts to respect and implement the Supreme Court's holding and remand instructions. >> The defense is going to have its own version of this and they're going to fight probably on some of these things. And the judge ultimately will have to decide and that may be appealed and that may go all the way up to the Supreme Court. So we're not going to have a trial in this case anytime soon. What this is, is a first bid by the special counsel to try to comply with that historic Supreme Court decision, which decreed former presidents cannot be prosecuted for official acts while in office. >> The DOJ noted the superseding indictment was presented to a new grand jury that had not previously heard the case.
