And hello again friends, welcome to another edition of Southern Fairways Sports Radio presented by Macon Lautomotive, the number one GFC dealer in the state of Alabama. They're located just east of I-65 on Dolphin Street and Mobile. You can check them out online at maconlautomotive.com. We are broadcasting live today from our Shrickson Studios located in L.A. That's right. L.A. I am your host Randy Berget along with the PGA Teaching Professional Director of Golf at Quill Creek and beautiful Fairhill, Alabama Podgey, sweet-winging Bobby Hall. Bobby, how are you doing my man? I'm doing good. Finally we got a little break in the weather. It's a little cooler outside with that overcast skies and a little rain yesterday but it didn't really shut us down. We still had golf yesterday, got golf going on this morning, so get on out there and enjoy this. I hope that breeze will stay in the area for a little while and cool us off. We had about 60 players in the men's golf association. We have a game for everybody at Quill Creek. Hope you come out and join us. Golf course is back in good shape because you know it's doing very well. We invite you to come out and Randy sometime today, if we have a caller that would like to call in, I'd like to give four rounds of golf away at Quill Creek, Clue and Carton Greenfield. Well, we will promote that up. That will set that up for you for sure. Okay. No doubt about it. Doug Holton and Matt Brant on assignment today. So let me go ahead and set the table for you. On our SFGT's guest line coming up in just a second, we'll have Coach Barry Gibson on with us. He was in a big reunion last night. He'll tell us about that at Southern Miss, so you won't want to miss that. Then before we get to Coach, you want to talk a little some football, but got to say congrats for the first time. Scottie Scheffler won the FedEx Cup playoffs finale at the Tour Championship. He had seven total victories in 2024 on the PGA Tour. Let's not forget he won the gold medal at the Paris Olympics. No doubt in most people's minds, Scottie Scheffler will be the player of the year. Coming up at our next segment, we're going to be talking with Mitch McConnell. We'll talk football with him, as we always do, automobiles and much more. Of course, Mitch, in the next segment, as you know, has his finger on the pulse. Not just Alabama football, but the SEC football as well. We'll get Mitch's thoughts on week one and what we can expect in tonight's game at Alabama at the bottom of the hour. One of our old friends making his debut on Southern Fairway Sports Radio, Lynn Scarborough, will be on with us. Now, Lynn is one of the writers for Lindy Sports Magazine and one of the hosts of Lindy's football report. This guy knows SEC football as well as anyone in the business do not miss the segment. Lynn's on at the bottom of the hour and then we'll put a bow on it and wrap it up for you. The last hour, the last segment of the show is we get you a set for some college football where we have got a big one as soon as we go off the air, you got Texas and Michigan. I got in touch with John Drago, turned him into director for the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. I was texting him before he sent that text out and I asked him to come on big Texas guy wanted to talk about the game. He says, "Randy, I'd love to." But at 1030, I'll be sitting in the big house and that is where he is right now there in Michigan. So he's getting set for that. Well, I didn't know he was going up there. That's great. Well, you know, he's got some. I'm a big traveler. He certainly is. He certainly is. All right. This will be the fastest hour on radio. There is no doubt about it. So let's go quickly to our SFGT guest line and welcome in, Coach Barry Gibson. Coach, how are you doing, my man? Hey, Randy, good to be here, buddy. Little road words from last night, good to be here. Well, first of all, let me say thank you for inviting me and I wish I could have went with you. I know you had a big time at your reunion. Tell us a little bit about that reunion at Southern Miss last night. Hey, you want Randy? It was incredible. I had over 200 people there that had people came from everywhere a long distance to get there. We had a huge reception in the alumni room, a suite in the end zone, you know, the Southern Miss Stadium, the Rock. It was a lot of room in this, a lot of hugs, a lot of laughter. There were some tears, especially the part where during the reception, they read a list of names of players that have passed away, you know, including Randy Guy and Ben Gary, some of the great players. We've had it. Southern Miss and then one of my teammates that I played with, Sam Johnson played the bagpipes and after they've read the list of the names of the players that have passed on, he played amazing greats on the bagpipes and I'll tell you what, that wasn't a dry high in the house, man. It was emotional, but it was incredible. It was a lot of remotives and made you remember when we did this and some lives were told, but you know, that's part of it. We just had a great, great time, it was just very special. Well, we had Coach Jeff Bauer on last week. Of course, Jeff, a long time head coach, not only a head coach, but a player and assistant coach there at Southern Miss, he was the quarterback when you were the receiver there and unfortunately he was not able to be there because his mother-in-law had passed away, so we sent our thoughts and prayers to his family, but you sent me a picture of a guy that we've been knowing for a long time, O'Killer, Emmanuel, I see you've got to see him a little bit. Hang out. Yeah, we did. Well, first of all, Jeff did show up. We did. Oh, he did. Okay. We did. He and his wife, Debbie decided to come on, so they got there and had a great time with Jeff and Debbie Bauer, and you're right, I've seen him condoses, you know, for the loss of his mother-in-law, but he was there and had a great time of, had a lot of pictures made, you know, with Jeff, but yeah, Emmanuel Tillensworth, he was a divis of bat on the scene that I played with Southern Miss and a great guy, you know, Randy, and just always smiling, always laughing. He said to tell you, "Hello, you and Bobby," he said, "make sure you tell those guys hello for me," but yeah, I tell her it was a defensive bag, and he tried to cover me in practice, you know, when I was, we were all going, you know, I'm sure they'll tell everybody, what you would say to a defensive bag whenever you went up to the line. And according to Emmanuel, I said, "Alright, boy, hey, listen, if you let me get even, I'm leaving. I'm going back." So that was the best. If I get even, I'm leaving. So imagine that we share some great stories. He is like a brother. Of course, we all are the teammates, but I can just not tell you, you know, we realize that we talked about it last night too, Randy, that, you know, at our age and everything, we don't stand. This may be the last time we see, you know, a lot of our teammates, you know, because I don't know when we'll get together again, but, you know, getting on up to age, and so it was emotional last night. There was just a lot of hugs and, you know, just a great time overall. And there in the rock, the Southern Miss cheerleaders came out there and did a, you know, cheer for us, and they had a pep rally outside in the stadium going on, and it was just, it was just a whole lot of fun. We're speaking with one of our great partners, retired football coach Barry Gibson, of course, Barry played at Southern Miss, and then went on and played for Washington for just a little while till you blew that knee out, and then you, then you became the same speed as Bobby. But, hey, listen, hey, Barry, what do you, one of your teammates, and you mentioned his name just a few moments ago, Ray Guy, you had, you have, I know you got a lot of stories about Ray Guy, but there's one or two that you shared with me many times, and I just always get a kick out of, and I wish you would share with our audience here about the first time y'all were in the Superdome. Oh, yeah, we'd go down and play the Superdome, of course, Ray, you know, it was an incredible punter, and I was, you know, punter returned, so we're, we're out in the warming up, and, you know, they got the big jumbo screen, you know, up there. And nobody had ever hit the jumbo screen ever, you know, so high up in the top of the Superdome, so we're out there and Ray's funny, and I guess you just thought, I wonder if I can hit that jumbo screen, so he punts, wanted, boom, hits, you know, and then he said, okay, so he punts to get, boom, hits it, and then, you know, now people are just watching, you know, and now he's wearing it out, you know, it's so, where nobody else can even touch, so finally, I just had to yell down, hey, Ray, I'd like to catch up one or two punts before the game, you know, so he had to tell me to have a little bit just to get the pun underneath the jumbo screen, so I can catch up one more, but he was incredible. Oh, oh my goodness, that's some good stuff now, I know, I know, I know, we'd nearly miss Ray, he would have loved to have been there last night, we were talking about that last night with some of the teammates that played with him like I did, and what a great time he would have had and a lot of Ray guy stories would have been told last night, but yeah, we miss him, that's for sure. Yeah, there's no doubt, hey, we got about 30 seconds left here, Barry, of course, Southern Miss last week, plays at Kentucky, gets beat 31, nothing, you got a six o'clock kick at Southern Miss against Southeastern Louisiana, and that your teammates and you are going to be honored out there on the field today. Yeah, they're going to do a little recognition between the first and second quarter, all in the field and don't know exactly what it'd be said and everything, but it is just a moment of recognition for the former players that kind of laid the foundation, Randy, you know, for the programs that came after us, some of the great programs and teams they had, you know, the Brett Park teams and the Reggie Collier teams, and they talked about that last night, that we were the ones, the early '70s and the mid '70s, we were the guys that kind of laid that foundation for what was to come. So there'll be something said about that, but it's a nice recognition on the field between the first and second quarter. Barry, it's always good to hang out with your brother, and there is always a microphone for you, whenever you want to come in and sit with us, so don't be a stranger, all right? I appreciate it, man. I appreciate both of you guys, and, you know, we're pulling for something here today, and so don't touch it. There you go. I think y'all say to the top, don't you, Barry? There you go. All right, thanks, Barry. There you go. Barry Gibson, right there. All right. Now let's take a quick time out when we come back, we visit with Mitch McConnell, we're talking Alabama football, we're talking automobiles, SEC football, it all happens right here on Southern Fairways Sports Radio. So, Randy Bergen and Sweet Swing and Bobby Hall have a blessed day, keep a fair-balanced and unafraid, and, by the way, roll tide and we'll eat. Well, Trace Atkins right there. Hey, welcome back to Southern Fairways Sports Radio. Glad to have you on board with us. I am Randy Bergen, joined by Sweet Swing, and as Brett Baird just said, Sweet Swing and Bobby Hall. I'm going to talk a little bit about Ray Guy and you have the story. We got Mitch's on with us, we're going to get to him in just a second, but I want you to tell that story real quick. I was fortunate enough to play a lot of golf with Ray Guy when he was in Hattiesburg and I was living there. We played a lot of golf together and got to know him very well and you know how Ray perfected his high punts. When he was a kid, there was a big, huge power line behind their house and I'm not talking about one of those little street lines that comes down your street, Randy, it's one of those big electric power lines and his goal growing up was to kick a football over the top of those power lines and he would go out in his backyard in that field and he would kick and he would kick and kick and he finally kicked it over that. He still holds the record at Southern Miss for the longest field goes 62 yards and he wasn't a soccer style. He was a straight on toe kicker. Like Tom Dempsey. He put that square toe on his foot, he kicked it 62 yards and he has a 67 yard punt against Ole Miss at Hemingway Vopp Stadium at Ole Miss for the longest record punt. He stood in his end zone and kicked it to the other end zone. The receiver on Ole Miss turned around in a straight run, couldn't catch it. It took one of those great rolls on that astroturf and bounded into the end zone and there's an Ole Miss player reaching for it. It still topples into the end zone before he could get it. Over 90 yard punt. Wow. That's all. So he was one of the greatest athletes to step on the field there at the rock. No doubt. Nice to have that. We've got Mitch McCon with him. Mitch McCon with him. I've got a lot of motive. Mitch, how are you doing, my man? Randy Roo. I'm doing super great. I lost him T-town. Known as Tuck the Loose Alabama right now. Well, I know you're getting set for that ball game tonight against South Florida and look, I'm going to tell you now, this is, you know, if you're an Alabama fan, you don't take this game lightly. Of course, Coach Malzahn comes in there. Last year we won, I think it was 17-3, but that's a pretty close ball game for an Alabama team. Now with the Boer, and I want to get your thoughts on the first week of play as we took on Western Kentucky. I know it was pretty much blowout, but what did you, what did you see that you liked? What could we work on? What did you see you didn't like? Well, I, I, I saw some offensive chemistry coming around. You know, it, it's funny that a 17-year-old who scored the most touchdown for Alabama didn't see the opener, but you know, the chemistry that Jalen Milro is developing with Ryan Williams is pretty impressive, but Kendrick Law, you, you got to look at that guy as probably your Swiss Army knife, Randy. I love what I saw from him. Certainly Kobe print us with his speed, but TJ Dupree, the, the, the, the offensive chemistry even this week in practice has come further, and that's probably what I was most excited to see. Certainly the defense led by some of those outside linebackers, like Rusell, Christian Robinson, outside linebacker coach. I think that's probably the, the coolest thing Randy is these assistant coaches at Alabama may be better than anything Nick Saban had the last five years, so it is, it's fun to watch, but I'll be interested to see what the offensive line, the chemistry, and certainly what the defense can do. And you know, Gus Malzahn is going to dial up some, some scattered, covered, smothered up from a waffle house. He knew how to get Nick Saban dead. I'm not really sure about Caitlyn DeBore and, and came Womack, but it'll be fun to watch him. We're going to name the stadium after coach Saban. So it's, it's a, it's a festive day. I was on my way to Auburn. I got lost and ended up in Tuscaloosa guys. Well, there you go. There you go. I know you'll have fun there for sure. Uh, it will visit with Mitch McConnell, McConnell, a lot of motives. Mitch, let's just kind of go around the, the SEC, of course, uh, Auburn has got. They've got, they've got a little bit of a test today in California. How do you see that ball game? Well, I, I'm excited for Auburn fans because I really do think you freeze the answer and I think what he, what he is doing with, what you're seeing with porn is, you know, it's one, one game and it's, it's one week, but it was impressive. So I, I probably last year would have been worried for Auburn that it could be a close game. But I, I think they're going to win by three touchdowns. You know, and I, and I'm, I'm going to agree with you on that. I do believe that, that Auburn kind of making that little turn and mow, mow's on, uh, Hugh Free's coming in there last year. I think they went what seven and six or something and, uh, they've got, they've got to turn it around a little bit more, got to do something a little bit bigger. And I think this is going to be a good start form of course. They'll have a new Mexico next week, remember their first five games were at home. So I think that's good in one way, but when you get towards the back half of the season, that could be a challenge for you. Well, Bobby Randy, what I think is most interesting for listeners is that nobody knows from year to year now what each college team is going to look like, let, let hurt from FSU fans feelings and use them as an example, uh, three, three season top 10 and 0 and two team. I mean, there's nothing keeping Auburn from, uh, these young receivers, the transfer portal. We know what has happened in college football. It is not the same sport. So really hard to say that there's not going to be two or three teams. Everybody predicts Ole Miss. I think that's a good, a good bet. But you know, it could be Auburn ended up in the playoff instead of Ole Miss as, as another team decides Alabama, Georgia, the blue bludge, you know, that people expect. So that's probably the most exciting thing when you flip on your TV today is nobody knows what's going to happen with Alabama or Auburn. I mean, it's, you've got a largely new roster and I think you're going to see that almost every year from here on out, guys. Yeah. And, you know, there's a couple of coaches on the high seat, of course, Napier at Florida's on the high team. He, they're taking on Sam for the day. And if you're a Florida fan after that loss last week, uh, you've got to, you've got to think that you're going to get a win here and it is almost mandatory right now for Napier to get a win because I'm afraid if he loses too many and look, he's got Texas A&M next week. He needs to get this win. If not, he may be on the road and Tim Tebow may be the new coach. I, I think hot seat is probably an understatement. I think he's sitting on a volcano right now in quite frankly, I don't, I don't think it's Billy Napier's fault, guys, I think Florida is a weird job. And I think the, you know, some, some of the SEC arms races I'm up here about together the football complex at Alabama, it, Florida has nothing like that. And honestly, they have enough money. I'm not sure why, but, but Texas A&M, if you go around to SEC now, just with these kids and recruits and transfer portal possibility guys see at some of these facilities, I think maybe that's a small factor, but, but the schedule that Florida has is almost unfair. I think Billy, Billy might want to wave the white towel now and take his pay out and he's a great guy and a great coach. I just think it wasn't a great fit. Yeah. And I agree with you, that is a, that's a tough job down there, no question about it. One another one you've got to look at is Sam Pittman over to Arkansas. Now they had a, they had a big win last week, but they've got a challenge this week as they travel over to Stillwater to take on number 16 Oklahoma State, that's going to be a tough one for them. By the way, you can watch that on ABC, beginning in just about 34 minutes. But I think most folks, and I want to get your thoughts on this real quick, the big game today is on Fox and that happens at 11 o'clock from the Big House, Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Michigan as the Wolverines host the Longhorns of Texas, Texas ranked number three and for Michigan, number 10. I just don't think, I don't think Michigan can handle the offense that Texas is going to throw at them. I don't think the can either and honestly, I think Steve Sarkeesian is the top five coach in the country, if not top three and I think he's got a great staff and ultimately got the facilities, the NIL stuff, I know a lot of details about Texas, they got a whole complex of luxury apartments that a billionaire gave them to move the players into, so they don't just get cars and money, they get to live in the lap of luxury, so they've got a roster. I just think it's going to be an epic beat down, I'm sorry to Michigan fans, but I don't think it's Chidore, I don't think it's the coach, I just think it's the roster, I think Texas has too much, but I do predict an upset for Arkansas over Oklahoma State, 10 point back dog, I think Sam Pittman and Arkansas Razorback will have something for him, but I'm excited to watch the Texas game Randy, Bobby, but I think Texas has got way too much firepower. Well, I agree with you, I mean, Quinn Eures is one of the top quarterbacks in the nation, if not the best quarterback, so yeah, the defense for Michigan is going to have their hands full for sure, they drop out of that, I know they want a natural championship, but they're going to drop out of that number 10 spot after today's ball game. Alright, this with Mitch McConnell, Mitch, we've got about a minute left here, tell us what is going on over at McConnell Automotive. Well, I'm also going to predict that Tennessee is going to blow the doors off NCAA. So that's going to be a good one, Tennessee guys, I think they're going to be really good this year, but at the dealership, we've got a special on our Hummer SUV Randy, you can lease it for less than $1,000 and it's $100,000 vehicle, that's a new special. We have a few Ucons in the stock that we didn't have before, but more than anything, we have the new free lifetime warranty, so people shop our prices at McConnellautomotive.com and more than anything, we kind of joke with folks and say we don't do shenanigans, so if somebody goes to our website Randy and sees a price, that's what they're going to get when they come in and that doesn't unfortunately happen at every dealership. So we're having fun and a great selection of used cars, so we just want people to give us a chance and shop our website or call us and come see us, man. Mitch, I've got to tell you, I saw your latest TV commercial and you got your salesman over there just going 90 to nothing talking and you look at him and say, "Hey, it's real simple." No shenanigans and they're just a great commercial brother. Well, listen, we're just honest and straightforward and for people that like that, I think we're a good place to come and buy a car from because we don't play around with people's time for their money and I'm about to go buy a football facility in Suscalusa, so I'm going to try to get you a Caitlin DeBore hoodie, Randy. I must be like, I'm going to score some flag for us here if I can do that. Hey, man, hey, look, have fun at T-Town, roll tight and we'll be talking with you soon. Safe travels, my friend. Hey, it's going to be a fun day, golf is sort of over, so let's tune in to football and by the way, Randy, I won the Labor Day Invitational with my partner, Andy Crane, last week. Congratulations, Randy. Congratulations. See? There you go. There you go. Let's team up soon. Let's team up soon. There he is. Mitch McConnell. There you go, man. Mitch McConnell with McConnell out of motives. All right, look. Let's take a time out. When we come back, we visit with Lynn Scarborough of Lindy Sports Magazine right here on Southern Fairway Sports Radio. This is NFL Kicker Robbie Gold. When I'm along the golf coast, you better believe I'm with the Southern Fairway Radio. Your host, Randy Bergen, gets you latest golf and sports information from Randy and all his guests. Enjoy sports updates, scores, and a few laughs with one of the most entertaining shows in radio. I'm Robbie Gold, and I hope you're having a great day. There you go. Thank you, Robbie. We appreciate that as we welcome you back to Southern Fairway Sports Radio. I am Randy Bergen, joined by Sweet Wing and Bobby Hall, PGAT Teaching Professional and Director of Golf at Quell Creek Golf Club in beautiful Fair Hope, Alabama. Let's go back to our SFGT guest line and welcome in a good friend of ours. I got ahead and talked to you in a long time. Lynn Scarborough with Lindy Sports Magazine. Lynn, how you doing, my brother? Randy, it's always good to be on with you, man. You're right. We're in Gungus very often lately, and we need to change that up and get together more often than we have in the recent year. Man, there is no doubt about it. I know you are one of the busiest guys in the business, and you know, SEC football just as well as anyone in the business, and I'm excited to have you on to talk a little bit about football, but I know Bobby's got a question on your magazine. I'm just going through the magazine, Lynn, and it's just so full of information. It's going to take me six months to read one edition as slow as I read, but I am so happy and thrilled to be looking at this. I got one question. How long have you been doing on this? This is a really exciting, and I have to kind of ask a sidebar question. Whatever happened to the gentleman who did the prediction on the football games years ago? That was Leonard's Loser. Leonard's Loser. Whatever happened to Leonard's Loser's? Well, when he passed away, it faded away. I only met him one time guys that I was on the way to cover a football game in either North Carolina, Virginia. I stopped at a 7-11 type store to get gas and just go in and get a drink for something, and lo and behold, he was at the counter. And you know how he would take all those things, he would put them in stores, and those stores would advertise in his piece, and then he'd put them in there and people could get them. And he was in there, a really, really nice guy. My memory is he was a Georgia fan, but it went away, and it was great. He had all of his own little sayings, and he made every pick be kind of a little comedy. Right. And it's a shame that he's not around. It was very good. I've got to be honest with you. I laughed. That was part of your Saturday. Growing up, you listened to Leonard's loser as you got set for a ball game. And I mean, that's exactly right. That is exactly right. We're visiting with Lynn Scarborough right here in Southern Fairways. Lynn, let's get into some football here real quick. One of the big games coming up today, obviously in just about 30 minutes or so, is number three Texas traveling up to Michigan to take on number 10 Wolverines. Obviously, Texas now in the SEC, I don't think there's a question that they're often talking about. I think it's going to be a lot better than Michigan's defense. How do you see this ball game? I think Texas wins the game because it's at the big house, it'll probably be, it might stay within the line, but I think Texas wins. You know, I think Texas comes in as a real threat in the league. I mean, Oklahoma is good, but I don't think they've got the team that Texas has got this year. And if Texas, you know, if Texas loses more than a couple of ball games the entire season, I'll be surprised. And I do think that they'll win today. Well, we were at that Texas game last year, me and Bobby, and the tournament director for the CJ cup, Byron Nelson, John Drago, who is at the big house today, rooting on his Longhorns. Bobby and I kind of was, I think, Bobby, we were kind of maybe overdoing it when we said, "Hi, come on, we'll take him to Tuscaloosa and we'll just beat the brains in." The backfire, didn't it? They just didn't have a good night that night. They didn't have it firing in. I don't think, I don't think, I don't think everybody's going to be Texas brains out. Here's the same guy about the league this year. Lindy's picks, you know, y'all got magazine there, we picked Georgia number one. All right, I don't want to be, I don't want to be a hypocrite about it. When I was in Dallas for four weeks ago for the SEC media days, I voted Georgia number one. Everybody got Georgia number one in the country and they looked mighty good against Clemson. But if you look at our top 10, we've got Texas number three, Mississippi number five, Alabama number seven, and Georgia plays at all three of those and nobody else does in the country. So when you're playing at the home field of number three, five and seven plus, they play Florida on a neutral field and they've got Tennessee and Auburn at home, but those aren't bad teams. And so they've got those six balls, hey, look, and they, they close with Georgia Tech and Georgia Tech's already beating Florida State. So that's, you know, Georgia may be the best team, but I don't think anybody's going through the South Asian Congress undefeated. I think you'll have everything loose in the game and you'll probably have some upset. And see, and I see that now that you got 16 teams in the SEC, there, it's, I think it's going to be virtually impossible to go through a season without being beat. You mentioned Ole Miss and Jackson Dart, their quarterback. This is a one of the, I think one of the best quarterbacks certainly in the SEC and he is certainly a Heisman candidate. Yeah, one, in fact, one of the, one of the guys that, that's on the air with us from counter to time picks Jackson Dart to win the Heisman Trophy. I saw a, I saw a thing on the internet within this past week that was talking about that and said, what, what would it take from Jackson Dart for him to win it? Ole Miss, you know, Ole Miss has got a good tradition, but they, they don't have the tradition of the two schools in Alabama of, you know, of Florida, of LSU. And while Ole Miss is good, I'm not sure they'll be given the benefit of the doubt as much as some of the other schools might be. So Ole, Ole Miss has got to, you know, has got the whole, got the whole court, but, but, but they've, I mean, they've got a team that can do it. The main thing is going to be defense with them guys. I mean, you know, they've got to, they're, they're going to put some, some yards and some numbers, but, but they got to make sure their defense is good enough to get the job gun. It was last week, of course, but, you know, they're going to be playing some ball games are going to be tougher. Yeah, there's no doubt we're visiting with Lynn Scarborough of Lindy's Sports Magazine and of course, Lindy's football report. Lynn, let me ask you, let's go to, let's go to Baton Rouge real quick and talk about the LSU Tigers that get beat last week in Las Vegas by Southern Cow. I think Southern Cow watching that ball game, probably the best I've seen them play in a long time. It's about, it's definitely a better, it's definitely a better Trojan team. Yeah, I don't think there's a question about that. Now, now LSU has nickel state today. And then they're, then they're at South Carolina, UCLA, South Alabama, they'll host South Alabama coming up in a couple of weeks, but talk about this Tiger team. How do you feel about it? Because it seems to me that you better keep your eye on them. They could sneak in here and get you. Yeah, I agree with that. And if Meyer did a better job against Southern Cow then I thought he would. I think you've got a number of teams in the conference. You know, we've probably got five, and when I say we, I mean, the FCC, we've probably got five High School and Tokyo legit guys, middle row at Alabama. The guy, is it yours, you and at Texas, Jackson Dart, Carson Beck, you know, we've got legitimate High School candidates in the league, which really covers up a number of other probably better than average quarterback in the league, Brady Cook at Missouri, Peyton Thorne, and Auburn, that threw for almost 400 last week. Nuss, Meyer, these are guys that are good quarterbacks, it's just they're overshadowed by us having so many guys that preseason are in the Heisman talk. And so I think how those quarterbacks do is going to have a whole lot to say with it. You know, how's Meyer gonna do in these next big ball games, you know, is Brady Cook gonna be as good for a number nine Missouri team, according to Lindy. And you know, when I saw that come across my desk to edit, I said, whoa, wait a minute, what do we do? And you look at, hey, look at who they got back and look at who they don't play. Now they do play at Alabama, but they got a schedule that's favorable for them. I think a lot's going to depend on that this is assuming that Auburn is good enough to beat California today and Arkansas, but if they are, I think a lot's gonna have to do with how Peyton Thorne does against Oklahoma. You know, I don't think Alabama can overlook going to Wisconsin. I mean, there's just a, there's a lot of ball games that, you know, I just don't think they'll be an undefeated team in the conference and we need to hope we get, you know, two or three and the two or three in the playoff. There's no doubt about it. We're visiting with Lynn Scarborough of Lindy Sports Magazine. You mentioned the two teams that I was wanted to talk about. I want to talk about Oklahoma in just a second, but let's talk about the Tigers of Auburn. You mentioned California, they, I think it's going to be a little bit of a challenge for them. We were talking to, to Mitch, he thinks that, that California or Auburn will beat California about maybe three touchdowns. The challenge right now is Peyton Thorne is improved. As they say, he is going to be. Do you think he's there yet? He's improved, but the thing, the thing about it, they've got the best wide receivers that they've had since Obamanu and Aromasadou and Courtney Taylor back in 2006, 2007. They got, they got five guys that can, that can catch a pass and break it open. And they got, they got two really solid tight ends. I don't know how long it's been since Auburn has really had this talent to the group of wide receivers and tight end together at the same time. And they got a guy, a droplet hunter, that we had first team all the SEC running back. Their offense should, should be, should be a pretty good offense. I know that last week, you know, was Alabama A&M. You know, we had, we had 10 teams, it's in our newsletter this week. You go down to Kentucky, winning 31 to nothing, and they three quarter game against Southern Miss. You had 10 SEC teams that their average win was 59 to 2. You had, you had, you had five teams that scored over 60, two that scored over 70, but they were all against lesser opponents. And so I don't know that we really know anything yet about just our powerful, as is the offense is going to be. But they sure did, they sure did look good. I think if, if Auburn can go four and O and win the Oklahoma game, they're a threat to win 9 or 10 ball games. On the other hand, if they were to lose to California or Arkansas, then they'll probably lose to Oklahoma. And then in back to back weeks, they've got Georgia, Missouri and Kentucky all on the road. They still got to play in Alabama. So I could see Auburn win in 9 or 10, I could see Auburn losing half a dozen games. So I think it's still out on them. Yeah, they had a six and seven record last year. They've got to, I think, I think that Freeze has got to do better this year. He's got to, he's got to be at least seven, what, seven and six or eight and five. I mean, I think it needs to be an eight and five to. I think to keep the, to keep the seat from getting a little bit hot, he needs to win eight ball games and I can see them in there, I can see them not doing it. But he's, he's turned recruiting upside down and I don't, I don't know that he can continue this. But right now in the, the 2006 recruiting and I may be getting these reversed 2006 recruiting, he's number one or number two in the country and the other one of those, he's got eight out of the top 10 commitments to State of Alabama, Ohio State has the other two and I may have it wrong. There might be 2005 and 2006, but that's where he stands right now. On the next two recruiting classes, Auburn hadn't done that well in recruiting since back during that stretch, that hot stretch that Cobra was having back in the early 2000s. And I don't know they can keep this up and a lot of all games to be played. You can have teams to have players that can still flip their commitments, but he's got them moving in the right direction, but you just added Texas and Oklahoma to the league. And LSU and Alabama and Georgia aren't going anywhere. So the fact that Auburn is getting better doesn't necessarily mean their record is going to be world leader because just like in the SEC, we were talking before, every single team now is going to have a tough schedule because of, and also playing note, note with no divisions, you know, Georgia did not have to play Mississippi, Alabama, Texas that would have come in in the Western Division, they've had to play Auburn every year. But now there's no divisions. So Georgia got the kind of schedule that Alabama and Auburn used to have to have. Well I'll tell you, it's going to be an interesting year, no doubt about it. We want to have you back on our time as a upland and you listen, you're one of the best in the business and so informative and look forward to having you back on. I want to thank you for taking time to be with us real quick, how can folks get your newsletter? Yeah, good to see y'all. They were just contact Lindy going to Lindy's website and talk to me soon and we'll get back together. All right, buddy. Sounds good. There's Lynn Scarborough right there with Lindy Sports Magazine, also Lindy's football report. Dude knows his stuff, knows his stuff. All right, let's take the time out. When we come back, we'll put the wraps on this edition of Southern Fairway Sports Radio. It's a pretty good thought right there. Pretty good thought, Jeff Davis. Welcome back to Southern Fairway Sports Radio. I am Randy Berry and glad that you are here with us on a somewhat gray Saturday here along the Gulf Coast. Of course, sweet-winging Bobby Hall, the PGA Teaching Professional and Director of Golf at Quarkree Golf Club in beautiful Fair Hope, Alabama. Hanging out with us as well, one of our partners here and Bobby, always good to have you. We're going to get a tip from you here in just a few moments. Talk a little golf. You got some things going on at Quail Creek and we'll talk about those coming up in just a second. But I understand we have a caller on the line caller. Welcome to the show. Well, thank you for having me. You know, I was, this is, this is little fire captain travel agency and we've been trying to get a hold of Bobby Hall. Mike Jeff, is he on the air? He is on the air right now, yes. Well, sweet-winging Bobby Hall, sweet-winging Bobby Hall, I just wanted to give you a call. We haven't been able to get a hold of you and so we have some travel plans that have changed and we just want to let you know that, that you have a little flight change and you're going to have a little layover in Maui and I'll put that about it. But it's a five-day layover and since we've been convenience you, we've decided to get you a condo and we're so excited, we're going to have three of your friends come along with you as well. Isn't that exciting? That's exciting. So we just, just wanted to call and come from that with you and you know, the only thing I really have an issue with is I'm so curious, why do they call you, sweet-winging Bobby Hall? Okay, there you go, there you go, we're now off the air. It sounds like an East Coast, West Coast correspondent to me. Oh my goodness. Vinnie, Vinnie, Vinnie, our West Coast correspondent, what are you doing, my man? We're just hanging out on a meet with some old friends of Mike from the J.C. that we played football with and thought I'd just call in and give Bobby a hard time. Yeah, well I appreciate the nice little gift you sent, looking forward to the trip coming up in a few weeks. We'll be watching Alabama Georgia from Maui, we got a little trip to Hawaii, little buddy trip going to play a little golf out there. I've never been, it'd be a great vacation, looking forward to it. Thank you for setting this up for us and I look forward to beating your butt out when I get out. Hey, if you did it, I don't know if you recognize it or not, Bobby, but his travel agency is called the little fire captain travel agency. Little fire captain will be going with us, so yeah, we're excited about that, it should be a lot of fun. You know, you got a reunion kind of, if you will, from the, you play ball at San Jose State and as a matter of fact, you were talking about San Jose State a little bit earlier. I was looking at football records the other day and the longest field goal I believe in college history is 69 yards by a player that played at San Jose State, if I'm not mistaken. Are you sure? Really? No, the longest field goal was 69 yards and then it drops to 67 yards, three or four players in the NCAA have had that longest kick. We're talking about Ray Guy, his longest field goal was 62 at Southern Miss, but I believe it was at San Jose State, the kicker had a 69 yard and that's still in the record books. So you got a little history there with you playing out there. There you go. I wonder, I wonder if that number had to do anything, why they kicked a full call, I'm not sure. Yeah, if you're kicking 69 yard field goals, yeah, your office is not moving the ball too well, right? Hey, let's talk a little bit, you are our West Coast correspondent. You keep up with football out there in a big way and you got your buddies in the reunion. But talk a little bit about, listen, over here in the South, of course we saw Southern Cal defeat LSU last week, so we're here in a lot of the Southern Cal stuff. What is the word there along the West Coast? What's the chatter over there? You know, really, the chatter's not too much about the teams that left, the chatter's more about the teams that stayed and what they're going to do, you know, with Washington State and Oregon State, and they're playing basically in the Mountain West this year, but I don't know what they're going to do, you know, it's good to see us, you do well, you know, they had a good defense, but the issue is I'm not sure how some of those West Coast guys are going to do in that big 12, you know, the bigger guys and playing a little different type of offense. That would be an interesting year. Well I agree with you. Look, it's an interesting, no matter what conference you're in, it's going to be interesting. This NIL has got people moving around and we were talking about it earlier in the prep sports report, we're seeing it now in high school, where kids are leaving halfway through the season to go to another school, it's just not football the way, the way it was when you played. I can promise you that for sure. But then we are looking forward to seeing you and the little fire captain and heading out there and playing a lot of golf, my friend. I think we're going to have a good time, I appreciate you guys and I just want to call them and give you a little hard time today. Well I'm glad you did, it's always good to hear from one of the good guys across the United States that Randy's made friends with over there, and Randy's made many friends through radio and through his travels, but Vinnie, we appreciate you, thanks for setting everything up and stay in touch with us, I look forward to seeing you in a few weeks, thank you. Our brothers, you guys have a great day. Alright buddy, Vin Goodman, our west coast correspondent, see he calls now, I have to send him a check, so no, it's good stuff, it's good stuff. I'm going to tell folks out there a quick story, we were down in Orlando at the merchandise show and you and me and Vinnie went out and played, and Randy had this off his knees shot over this bunker, oh yeah, at Orange County. Yeah, and you had the most peculiar stance I've ever seen, Randy's down and he's going to flop it over this bunker, and damn if he doesn't get it up and down, it was the damnedest thing, and then you did the Phil Mickelson shot over him standing right in front of you where Phil hit it over Dave Pells, when you did that with Vinnie, Vinnie stood there, didn't even flinch and he flopped it right over his head onto the green, we have such a good time, there's so many other stories that he's got. And Vinnie's not a short guy. He went no, 6-3-6-4, he was probably maybe 10 feet from me, he says I'm going to stand right here, it did not flinch and you flopped it right over it, twice, twice, and yeah, I'm going to be honest with you, I was very nervous over that shot, because if I scall it just a little bit, but you had the courage of your convictions. I did, I did. Vinnie's a great guy, I look forward to seeing you. We only got a minute or two left here, Bobby, what is going on over at Quill Creek? Well we've got a nice tournament coming up, we talked about it before, the Ferric Lions Club, 18th annual golf tournaments on Sunday, October 6th at Quill Creek and the Lions Club does a whole lot for our youth and they do eye exams for our children and they do some things with drug screening and for diabetes and so we're looking to have a little over 100 players, but we still have some openings for some teams, so call us at 990-0-240, of course area code 251, 990-0-024-0, you can call it the golf shop, but that'll be on Sunday, October 6th, they put a nice meal out, they have some great prizes, it's a lot of fun and it goes to help those children, so we look forward to having that. Golf course is back in really, really good shape and I hope you'll come see us down at Quill Creek in Fair Hope. Yep, no doubt, and why you're in Fair Hope, why don't you make a little stop by the piggy wiggly there. Let me tell you one thing about you're going to be going out, folks out there, you're going to be going out for football, to watch the games and you know you have your chips and your salsa and peanuts and finger food and stuff, make one of your games this year, stop by Boom's Thai Kitchen, you won't be disappointed, if you're not having to get together with people and you want a single meal, go by there, it's fantastic, I had some veggies and chicken the other day, had some tofu, the soup is wonderful, but you got to really admire the Boom rolls, just take some of those home to the next party, you'll run out of them, there won't be any of them left, everybody loves them, we use it at Quill Creek during our get togethers with the couples and things like that, but Boom has got it going on and Max is over there working, Randy you've been working hard at it, I'll be over there here in just a little bit, she had a line out the door the other day after she opened and let me tell you, it is some good food, so I'm telling you, make it a stop for one of your meals for one of your football games this year, you won't be disappointed, Boom's Thai Kitchen at Pigly Wiggly and Fair Hope. Yep man, say hey to Boom, she'll turn around, she'll smile at you and put you on the spot a little bit, Randy, can you call Boom and pre-do an order for you, right now, the answer, yeah we're working on that right now, yeah it's almost overwhelming how busy she's been, so there's not a phone right there right now, we're working on that. Work on that for the future, but go by there, you'll love it. Alright, hey listen, before we get out of here real quick, coming up in just a few moments, Texas will take on Michigan, you can see that on Fox, if you're a Razorback fan, Arkansas is at Oklahoma State, that's on ABC at 11 o'clock, Texas A&M host McNeese, that's on the SEC Network at 1145, Georgia, take it on Tennessee Tech, 1 o'clock ESPN, Auburn, host California on ESPN 2 at 230, Kentucky, here's a good game, I'm going to tell you on ABC at 230 South Carolina and Kentucky, Ole Miss, host Middle Tennessee, South Florida, is Alabama, you can see that at 6 o'clock on ESPN and another good one will be Tennessee at North Carolina State, ABC at 6 30, alright that is going to wrap it up, Bobby, thanks for hanging out with us, and want to thank Barry Gibson for being on, Lynn Scarborough, Mitch McConnell, Vin Goodman, and thank you for hanging out with us on this Saturday morning, go and root for your team, we're rooting for you, and we will see you next week, remember let's hit a knee, say a prayer, God bless America, we'll see you next week right here on Southern Fairway Sports Radio, bye bye everybody.
