[music] Good evening. I have a very o-fair view to come to our little expiré this evening. Ladies and gentlemen, please stand by for Cookie on the Big L. But my hair is still in courage. [laughter] This is a stupid book. Very nice. Oh, the usual cocktail joint. Big girl. [music] At 0700 hours tomorrow morning, my shutdown disk will be activated and all mental and physical operations will cease. Then what? I don't know. Maybe I'll get a job as a disk jockey. [laughter] And now, here he is. It's Cookie. Oh no! Music. Oh yes, it is a very good evening to you and a very warm welcome along to another Thursday evening. So, I stand by for two hours of wonderful music and I fair bit of mayhem into the bargain. And thanks to Gary Jackson for the last three hours and back Sunday morning. I'll be singing for him for a quick one tomorrow evening at six. Music. That's our middle name. Wonderful music. The I.G.L. Serving up your entree this evening from our Fab 500. [music] Keep on running, keep on hiding, one five day I'm gonna be the one to make you understand. Oh yeah, I'm gonna be your man. Keep on running, running from my arms. One five day I'm gonna be the one to make you understand. Oh yeah, I'm gonna be your man. [music] Every one you're stalking at my heart. It's gonna be you for a body. Every one you're slapping at me. It may be you for a side. Keep on running. Hey, hey. All right. [music] Keep on running. Running from my arms. One five day I'm gonna be the one to make you understand. Oh yeah, I'm gonna be your man. Every one you're stalking at my heart. It may be you for a side. Every one you're slapping at me. It may be you for a body. Keep on running. Running from my arms. One five day I'm gonna be the one to make you understand. Oh yeah, I'm gonna be your man. Hey, come on. [music] I wanna be your man. All right. Come on, baby. I wanna be your man. Come on, you make me feel so good. [music] You get a positive. Charge out of big girls. [music] What love is only true in fairytales. Then for someone else could not for me. A love was out to get me. That's the way it seemed. Disappointing hearted on my dreams. Then I saw her face. Now I'm a believer. I'll go to trade. Worked out in my mind. I'm in love. I'm a believer. I couldn't live a part of my tribe. I thought love was more or less. I'll give 'em a thing. Seems the more I gave the less I got. What's the use in trying? Then all you get is pain. When I need it, it's sunshine on my brain. Oh, and I saw her face. Now I'm a believer. I'm not a dragon. Worked out in my mind. I'm in love. I'm a believer. I couldn't live a part of my tribe. [music] A love was out to get me. That's the way it seemed. Disappointing hearted on my dreams. Then I saw her face. Now I'm a believer. I'm not a dragon. Worked out in my mind. I'm in love. I'm a believer. I couldn't live a part of my tribe. It's a song of pain. Now I'm a believer. I'm not a dragon. I'm down in my mind. Now I'm a believer. I'm a believer. Two five five hundred to get us underway this evening. I'm telling out with the Spencer Davis group, keep on running at the monkeys. I'm a believer. So a very good evening to you. It is the Thursday evening swari with me cooking. Taking you through to the Beatles at 9pm UK time right here on the Big L. Lots of good stuff to come your way for the next couple of hours. Let's have a look and see what we can offer you this evening. I didn't change the Bill of Fair because Chris in Hollyhead said, "Can you play a certain record for your long song?" And I said, "Yeah, can you remind me tomorrow?" So much on my mind at the moment. And he did, but he reminded me after I put all the blurb out for this show. So we have a long song from John Denver. I know a lot, please Anita. Charlie Drake will be along later on this hour to bring a smile to your face. Maybe not more or no more for our hour to open a phone. What's all that about? We'll find out very soon indeed. Part of hour two, we're taking you back to this very week, 1976. Yes, that long hot summer. Plus of course we've got to do what. We've got your emails and requests. And of course it wouldn't be Thursday without a sing-along. So I hope you're in good voice. As always, if you'd like to get through, it is cooking at biglradio.co.uk Or studio@biglradio.co.uk on the phones. And leave a message on 012588113. That's the UK number 012588113. Text us via the Bigel Smartphone app. Tweet us @biglradio. Get through via the website. Get through via our Facebook group this evening. And a very good evening. Let's see who's checking in already to John. Surely to Zoe and Mike can hitch into our very own Jim Stevens. And don't forget, you can catch his happy hour. For a little while longer every Sunday evening here on Bigel International. Lorna Ian Keswick. Howdy in Loughton. Sandra and boy over there in Zelsat. John and Charlie, yes Mr. Troubles with us as well. Chris Ian Holleyhead. We'll be catching us up a little bit later on. Listen again. And Anita in Amsterdam also Patricia in Munich. Have a look and see what we're going to play for him in the way of requests very soon indeed. In the meantime, let's go with this one from Dawn. Bigel, it's a blast. The stars won't come out. If they know that you're about. Because they couldn't match the glow of your eyes. And oh, who am I? Just an ordinary guy. Trying hard to win me first prize. Oh, candida. We could make it together. The further from here go for better. Where the air is fresh and clean. Oh, candida. Just take my hand and I'll lead ya. I promise life will be sweeter. And it said so in my dreams. The future is bright. The gypsy told me so last night. Said she saw our children play in the sunshine. And then wishing men died in a house made in no line. And all these things were yours and they were mine. Oh, my candida. We could make it together. The further from here go for better. Where the air is fresh and clean. Oh, candida. Just take my hand and I'll lead ya. I promise life will be sweeter. And it said so in my dreams. You know I'm trying hard to win me first prize. Oh, my candida. We could make it together. The further from here go for better. Where the air is fresh and clean. Oh, my candida. Just take my hand and I'll lead ya. I promise life will be sweeter. Dawn and candida right here on Big L International. Okay, let's see what we're going to play in the way of requests. First in the evening, or not just this evening earlier on, was Zoe and Mike and Mitch, who say hi. Last week we were away and sharing them for a few days. Perfect weather and we had a great time. Two weeks ago you played here cause a judge by a pig meat mark and I did indeed. I remember hearing that years ago on Brian Mathrey's sounds of the 60s. That was before I knew about Big L. You know better now. I also thought I recalled hearing a similar song around that time. I've managed to track it down. It was inspired by the pig meat mark and song. It has the same title and general idea, but it's not the same song. So please will you play Here Comes the Judge by Shorty Long for us this evening. I will indeed. That is coming your way very soon indeed. First of all, one I didn't get around to playing yesterday for Sager. In Zell's at Emerson Lake and Palmer and their version of Peter Gunn on the way in a few seconds time. Back to Zoe and Mike and Hitch in apparently the Baron Knights did a version of the pig meat song. As part of an Olympic record, but I haven't investigated that one me neither. I'm sure your listeners would be interested in that. Well, apart from two of them anyway. But yes, perhaps we'll have to investigate that sometimes. Anyway, who else is true for a request? Let me see. Sware a request. Greetings, Cookie and all, say Brian and Noreen in St Albans. Well, no surprise, like many others, we were unable to get Oasis tickets for Noreen's brother. Is that a bad thing? But maybe extra dates are on the way. An easier project for us to us too. I was getting tickets for Amber for the Amber Voyage production in London next year. Could you please play Amber? Why did it have to be me or and Dante and Dante? A beautiful track and Dante and Dante. But I don't have that on the system. I've got to put it on L.P. somewhere. I don't have your first choice, so let that's all right. Let's see who else is in for a request this evening. Howdy in Loudson says, "Please, can you play Polk Salutani by Tony Jo White?" I can indeed. John in Lance says, "Can you play crowded house? Don't dream it's over. That's on the stack for you as well." Anita in Epsom says, "Can you please play England, Dan and John Ford, Coley and Love is the answer." That's on the stack as well. And Patricia in Munich says, "Please, would you please kind and be so kind as to play? Love me like I love you by the Bay City Rollers. I will indeed. That's on the stack for you." So lots to get through. Let's get cracking. For Serger and boy over there in Zelsa right now, yeah, I didn't get around to playing it yesterday afternoon. So we'll do it this evening. The tune you probably know very well, but do you know this version of it? [MUSIC PLAYING] Ladies and gentlemen, Emerson, Blake and Homer. [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] And manners cover the baby elephant walk. [MUSIC PLAYING] I might give that a spin if we have time later. [MUSIC PLAYING] Option one this evening. [MUSIC PLAYING] Andridge through connection. [MUSIC PLAYING] And more, more, more. [MUSIC PLAYING] Would you like to do that or bring up our two off the show? [MUSIC PLAYING] Would you like to go with a bit of? [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] Just jocked that one on a little bit because it had a long intro. But yes, option two this evening. [MUSIC PLAYING] Being Elky Brooks. [MUSIC PLAYING] And no more the fool. [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] So as always, collectively your choice is which of these two goes through and opens up our two off the show. So you know what to do, drop me an email, give me a call and let me know your choice to cookie@bigelradio.co.uk or studio@bigelradio.co.uk on the phones and leave your answers. So one, two, double five, eight or eight, double one, three. That's one, two, double five, eight or eight, double one, three. Or text your answers in via the-- or text your votes in via the Big L smartphone app. Is it going to be option one? [MUSIC PLAYING] Andrea True Connection and more, more, more. Or Elky Brooks, option two and no more the fool. [MUSIC PLAYING] The choice collectively is yours. So over to you and back in just a few moments time. Shorty long for Zoe and Mike and Hitchin at a very good Friday morning to Lance in New Plymouth, New Zealand, who's just right at work and listening in. We'll get your vote on the pad in just a second. [MUSIC PLAYING] No trouble at all. Big L. [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] Whenever news breaks, FSN is there. [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] This is Cookie inviting you to join me for two hours of wonderful music and fun Thursday evenings. We'll have a long song, something to bring a smile to your face and the original five print 10 chart recall, a Thursday evening swari, 7 p.m. on The Big L. [MUSIC PLAYING] More fun, more music. [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] Big L. [MUSIC PLAYING] The cold sin session. The cold sin session now. You're going to judge. You're going to judge. Here come the judge. Here come the judge. Stop being at first. Cops here come the judge. Don't know about it, but it's not in the face. And he don't take no stuff nobody. No problem. Hey boy take off the hat. Where do you think you're at? And I know what you're going to be. If you know it by me I'm gonna tell you. What's that session? All that in the cold now. Don't know about it. Can't nobody suppose that. Here come the judge. Here come the judge. Don't know about it. Don't know about it. Don't know about it. What's the first case on the dark now? George I got a boy here came there. Hey dance. Hey dance. How many days? 30 days to move blue. 30 days to learn how to sing a lead. And 30 moves for the out for the wits. What is this? Here come the judge. Here come the judge. Is that the man? No you're not. Does he look like the man? No you're not. Well I'm sorry you got to go in and you say you can't recognize the man. You got to go. And you'll pick. [Music] [Music] Shorty long for Zoe and Mike in here and here comes the judge. Good stuff indeed. Right keep those votes coming in. We'll have a recap of our two choices right after we do our long song which we shall do for you right now. And despite what was advertised on the blurb for this show we've had a switch around because Chris didn't remind me in time but we're doing it anyway so we've got nine minutes and four seconds worth right now for you. We're John Denver and the round of splendid foxfire suite. [Music] Spring is alive in Carolina. Deep in the forest where the foxfire grows. High on the mountain, down in the forest, but learn lightning so it goes. Over a hundred years ago we became a Carolina. Far across the water it's a long hard road. With little more than courage we came seeking independence. A little less than nothing is a fairly low. From the header to the highlands we've found spoken mountains. Hard work in simple ways and life is good. Life is good. Spring is alive in Carolina. Deep in the forest where the foxfire grows. High on the mountain, down in the forest, but learn lightning so it goes. [Music] [Music] [Music] You are every morning, sometimes you are every rain. You are every field of laughter. You are every cry of pain. You are all the summer flowers. You are all the molly leaves. You are every one rejoice. You are every one in the blue breeze. You are all my unknown seasons. You are all my hidden fears. You are lonely lovers kisses. You are seen in childhood tears. You are where the stars are shining. You are where the rainbow ends. You are why the water is over. You are how the peace begins. [Music] [Music] Whisper the wind, over the water. Whisper the wind, all through the night. Whisper the wind, the long mayner. Whisper the wind, into the light. Whisper the wind. Brothers and sisters, Whisper the wind, all the same. Whisper the wind, loved one another. Whisper the wind. Your precious name. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Would you like to hear that over in your power to the show? As always collectively your choices to which of these two goes through and opens up our two of the show. So you know what to do. You got just under 20 big L minutes to get those votes in to cookie@biglradio.co.uk or studio@biglradio.co.uk on the phones. And leave your vote on 012 5 808 013, that's 012 5 808 013, or text your vote in via the big L smartphone app. Is it going to be option one, Andrea True connection and more more more? [Music] Join Ian Cook every Monday Tuesday and Wednesday on Big L. That's cookie to you and I on Big L International. He'll be playing your dedications and that last bite competition. Every Monday Tuesday and Wednesday between two and four on the on Big L International. The heart and soul of rock and roll, Big L. [Music] When you were lonely you'd need a man, someone to lean on but I understand. It's only natural why they have to be me. Nights can be empty and nights can be cold so you are looking for someone to hold. That's only natural why they have to be me. I was so lost and I was blue, I couldn't have been. It had to be you and I, always thought you knew the reason why. They wanted a little of a plan. Now I can see you all thinking you took care of a baby. You think he's better? Do you find anything? [Music] Then all the toys in the game that you play when you get tired throw them away. That's only natural why they have to be me. The falling in love with a woman like you happens so quickly there's nothing to do. It's only natural why they have to be me. I was so lost and I was blue, I couldn't have been. It had to be you and I, always thought you knew the reason why. I only wanted a little of a plan. Now I can see you all thinking you took care of a baby. You think he's better? Do you find anything? [Music] I have a for Brian and Norrie in St. Albans and why did it have to be me? Chris in Hollyhead says Happy Hawaii. It is very similar isn't it? Very similar to Happy Hawaii. There we go. Why did it have to be me? It's what it's called. And it's time for our do-what track of the week. Marianne in Chicago's choice this week and she's gone with the tokens when Neil Sadaka was with them still. Yes, another of those Neil Sadaki records. And she's gone for a while I dream. It took 50 years to make 'em and only one station's playing. The heart and soul of rock and roll. Big L. While I dream, while I dream. Dreams of you, while I dream, while I dream. Dreams of you. It's awesome 'cause the candy in here, one can dream. Oh, I have my pillow, silly. As it seems through the night, while I dream, while I dream, while I dream. Dreams of you. A breath is a sign for you, for you to my heart. You know, I owe it to the tears I felt this thought. Oh, the night, while I dream, while I dream. Dreams of you, the young I'm hard to know. But you and me, still, I'm afraid to make reality. Oh, the dreams I will make me do. And it's meant to say that it's great to walk. Yeah, how much you will sleep well. Oh, the time to hear what makes a stranger is in your light. Makes you mind through the night, while I dream, while I dream. Dreams of you, while I dream, while I dream. Dreams of you. Oh, great, but a classic two up there, chosen by Marianne in Chicago this week, from all the way back in 1956, which is the tokens we know Sadaka was with them as well. And the one called, while I dream. And we'll have another do what track for you around the same time in the show for you next week, but right now you know what's happening. Bubbling over with. We are indeed. As always, that time in the show, once again, where we like to play a couple of records to bring a smile to your face. And Charlie Drake's doing the honours now. And he's got a bit of a problem with his as a guy. TDIF, like goodness, it's fun with big L. [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] From Feature Story News in Washington, I'm Caroline Malone. A group of researchers led by the University of Texas Austin say they've discovered an antibody that can neutralize all known variants of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. It could be a major breakthrough in fighting the virus which has already claimed more than 7 million lives globally. Tony Waterman has more. The researchers say they discovered and isolated a neutralizing antibody called SC27 from the blood of a single patient. That antibody attaches to the virus and prevents it from infecting cells in the body. The team was then able to use existing technology to obtain the exact molecular sequence of the antibody, opening the possibility of mass manufacturing for future treatments. One option would be to incorporate the antibody into a universal vaccine. Tony Waterman, Texas. The Trump and Harris campaigns have agreed that microphones will be muted during next week's presidential debate, while the other candidate is speaking. That means neither the former president or vice president will be able to interrupt each other. A report from Washington. Kamala Harris' team had pushed for mics to remain on throughout the debate, but Team Trump said the rules should be the same as the June debate between the former president and Joe Biden, as that is what both campaigns had agreed to. Trump on Wednesday again criticized the debate host ABC, calling it the "most dishonest network, the meanest, the nastiest." He also said, without backing up the claim that Harris will have an unfair advantage by getting the questions in advance. I'm Nick Harper from Washington. U.S. companies added the fewest jobs last month since the start of 2021, according to payroll's processing firm ADP. U.S. correspondent Kate Fisher reports. Companies hired just 99,000 workers last month, less than the rapidly revised 111,000 in July. The ADP data also showed that private sector payrolls grew at the weakest pace since 2021, which it said was another sign of a worsening labor market. ADP bases its findings on payroll data covering more than 25 million U.S. private sector employees. U.S. central bank officials say they're now more concerned about risks to the labor market than inflation, the Fed's expected to start cutting interest rates this month. Kate Fisher, Washington. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization says the people of the Gaza Strip are experiencing the most severe food crisis in the history of its food crisis reporting. The organization on Thursday released its mid-year update, reporting on all food crises around the world. At least 40,000 people are known to have died in Gaza since the start of an October 7th war after Hamas attacked people and killed 1,200 of them in Israel. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Indeed it is. It is cookie, live and lively with the Thursday evening soire taking you through to the Beatles hour at 9 p.m. UK time. Welcome along to our two of the show. Here's our winner.
