Week 1 recap

College football talk

On today's episode of Mac on Sports, we talk about the Dallas Cowboys beat down over the Cleveland Browns, the shocking Cincinnati Bengals loss to the Patriots, and all other NFL aspects. We talk some college football with Kentucky losing to South Carolina with some big games like Tennessee dominating over NC State, and the Oregon Ducks surviving a scare once again, and we talk about the disaster of Michigan football against Texas on Saturday. That's a good one, sit back and enjoy, let's ride. What is going on guys, Happy September the 9th, and our first NFL week one is in the books. Wow, does it feel good to be back man? Saturday's built with college football, Sunday's built with the NFL, and now today Monday we have a Monday night game between the Niners and the Jets, that should be a very, very good game. It just feels good to be back, it's like an exciting feeling to be back, just to have your Saturdays and Sundays filled with football, pure joy, or depression depending on how your teams do. But let's start in the NFL slate before we get to college. What we're going to do here is we're going to talk NFL going to college, and then last clip we're going to talk about is the Lions and the Rams, we're going to do an instant reaction that will end the show. But just the one in four o'clock games just ended, and first of all, let's just start with Sunday. Sunday morning, Tyree kill, and that situation is wild. Tyree going on the way to the game, between the Jaguars and the Dolphins, and getting arrested will detain, I guess, for a speeding reckless driving, I would say, and the cops end up putting him down, and it's a big national scene, and it's certainly not a good scene to say the least, right? I mean, that's not exactly what you would want to see on a game day if you're a Dolphins fan, or if you're any fan of a team like this, but it did not affect the Dolphins whatsoever. They end up early on, and did I guess they came out a little shaky against the Jaguars in that one o'clock slate, the Jags were putting it to him pretty early. I thought Jacksonville had a good game plan early on, and I thought they were containing they were containing Miami's explosiveness pretty well, I would say. But I thought as the game went on, Mike McDaniel has made adjustments, and he does great at that. But this was a phenomenal, phenomenal game came down to the wire, came down to a last second field goal, where Jason Sanders had to hit a 52 yarder for the win. But I thought Jacksonville showed a lot of flashes early on in that game. You know, going into halftime, you're up 17 to 7, you're feeling good. You have your rookie Brian Thompson that you're really high on, had a really good half. You're feeling great. Miami's not playing their best football, is it because of the Tyree kill situation? I don't know. That second half, everything changed. Second half, for everything changed. Tyree getting detained by the cops early that Sunday morning, guess what? That didn't affect them at all. Everyone catches 130 yards in a touchdown. I thought the Dolphins offense was unbelievably explosive in that second half. The Dolphins had four players with 100 plus yards. You know, they had two of course, they're for over 100. Tyree kill alone had 100. You had Jalen Waddle go out there, and he had over 100 yards. And Devon Hian, I mean, Devon Hian is a playmaker. If you have him in fantasy, you're feeling great. You're feeling great. Devon Hian go out for 76 receiving yards, 24 on the ground. And while he was at it, he ended up punching in a touchdown on the ground too. Jalen Waddle had 109 receiving yards. They can beat you in so many ways. And I think that's what makes Miami really, really dangerous. They set up with a really good game against the Buffalo Bills for Thursday night football. We're getting a treat for Thursday night football, because usually Thursday night football is not the best games, but no, we're getting a treat with Buffalo and Miami coming this Thursday that I'm really excited for. So that should be a good game. But Miami takes down the Jaguars and a really back and forth good game. And you know, with all that craziness of Tyree kill, it is something that you end up, doesn't matter. Great players make big time plays when big time plays are needed. Tyree at times when the momentum was shifting towards Jacksonville, he was making plays when they needed him most. And I thought he was phenomenal and I thought the Miami defense was stout in the second half when they needed him to. So shout out to Miami, they get into the wing column, they are 1-0 and they are going to play Buffalo Thursday night. I believe that's in Miami. We'll have to double check that, but I'm really, really, really excited for that. I think that is going to be a really good game. Now a game that I think we all thought was going to be a really good game was America's Game of the Week before 25 slate. Now not all the time is America's Game of the Week going to be the actual best game because a lot of it is ratings and the Dallas Cowboys, as you guys know, get the ratings. The Dallas Cowboys are America's team, they're going to win the ratings battle, they're going to win the viewership and the money battle every single time. That's why you put them on a 425 slate or you put them on a Sunday night football slate. Whenever you are going to put them, they are going to get the ratings. Now next Sunday, they are playing a 1 o'clock game. It is America's Fox Game of the Week at 1 o'clock, whatever. But it is different because they don't play a lot of 1 o'clock games, but that's a story for a different day. But I think we all thought this game was going to be really close against Cleveland. Coming into this game, Dallas was 2 1/2 point underdogs. Cleveland was the home favorite. There's a lot of excitement in Cleveland, Kevin Stafansky, two-time coach of the year. You have arguably the best defense in the NFL with reigning defense a player of the year, Miles Garrett, good secondary, really good offensive line. Have a question running back, you know, Jermaine Ford, he can get you big plays, but he's not a elite running back, that wide receiving room. I think it's really good. I'm Ari Cooper, Jared Judy Moore, I mean, they got guys that can make plays. Now not having Jack Cocklin at right tackle is a big deal. Not having Judrick Willis at left tackle was a big deal because Dallas feasted. And a lot of people thought Cleveland was going to win this game. And not only that, I think a lot of people thought that at least it was going to be a close game. It wasn't even close. Dallas embarrassed, embarrassed Cleveland. Cleveland got off to a 3-0 lead, and then Dallas just took it from there and they just went running and smoked them, 33 to 17. And I don't even think that's the biggest story of the day if you're a Dallas Cowboys fan. The only morning, which I meant to open up the show with is Dak Prescott getting that deal. Dak Prescott getting that deal. And I'm going to tell you right now, I think Dak 100% deserves that deal, 100% deserves the deal. Yes, he is the highest paid player in the national football league's history. That contract, he is getting an unbelievable amount of money. But you know what? Well deserved, Dallas kicked off its season giving Dak a Sunday morning deal for four years, 240 million dollars, that makes him the highest paid player in NFL history. And that keeps him in Dallas for years to come. And I think that's the great decision and I think it is the smart decision. A lot of people and a lot of casuals are going to say that Dak Prescott doesn't deserve the money. A lot of people are going to say he can't win in the playoffs. A lot of people are going to say he can't lead you to a Super Bowl. I think what a lot of people are forgetting is Dak Prescott is one of the best quarterbacks in the national football league. And if you don't want to admit that, you're wrong. I mean you look at a guy last year in Dak Prescott who led the NFL in touchdowns. He led the NFL in touchdowns. He played out of his mind. He was incredible last year. Sure, it didn't work out where Dallas did end up winning playoffs like they should have as a two seed at home against Green Bay should have taken care of business. Sure, the criticism is valid there. It's valid, but it's not on Dak Prescott. You know, it's not on a guy whose defense gave up over 30 points last year and never even gave that team an opportunity. You know, you look at the Cowboys and you look at Dak, Dak's two and five in the playoffs. Sure, not a good record, not a good record, but go back and look at those games. Go back and look at those games. If you're going to tell me last year that was Dak Prescott's fault for not being the Packers. You're delusional. You're delusional. You're delusional. The San Francisco game two years ago, sure, Dak didn't perform well. Dak struggled. The defense played lights out. I give credit there two years ago. That's on Dak. He's got to be better. He's got to be better. His rookie year when they went 13 and three or the number one overall seed that lost to the Green Bay Packers was not on Dak Prescott. The defense collapsed late, the Rams game. The Rams game in about 2021, I believe, it sounds about right, or 2019, 2019 around there. When they went on the road with Todd Gurley and that Rams team and they lost, yeah, that was not on Dak Prescott. They threw a great dart to a Mario Cooper. They had a great night. The defense let him down, but sure, he has games where he does need to be better in the playoffs. I'm not saying he's perfect. The quarterback is, but I'm saying it's not a bad deal because one Dak can win in the playoffs. Has it shown? No, they're two and five. But when he has a great defense like he does this year, and sure, he had that last year. Sure he did. You can make the argument. It's one of those things where you have to make this deal if you are the Dallas Cowboys and it is a good deal. It is a good deal. You keep Dak now with you for the next four to five years. You have a core where you can contend for a Super Bowl. I truly believe that. And I wouldn't say something that I don't believe is a, you know, podcaster. I'm a Cowboys fan. I've watched this team for 22 years. If there's anybody that's going to be pessimistic or not want to believe, it's going to be me, man. I've went through hell and back and I've not really had many good memories with this organization. It's been a lot of depression and a lot of frustration. I'm going to say it as it is over the time that I've done this podcast over four years. I've never once came on and said, I think this team is going to get to the NFC championship. I've never said that until this year. And I know it might come off as a surprise to some, but I think this team's got the core to do it. And I think they got the ability to do it. They've eliminated distractions. CD Lamb got his contract. Dak Prescott got his contract. That's not an ongoing thing throughout the season. They're going to be set for a while now and they can focus on football. I think the biggest signing in the Dallas Cowboys off season was Mike Zimmer. I think the Cowboys defense is better than what it was last year and they were great with Dan Quinn. They didn't show up on the playoffs, but what I like about Mike Zimmer is he's not afraid to cuss out a star player. They said that on the broadcast, right? He will get into you and he will grill you. It's different. These are grown adults, high end paid athletes. They probably aren't used to getting yelled at, but you know what's nice is for guys to take accountability. And if you want to be great, you got to be coached hard. You got to take accountability. And I think Mike Zimmer is bringing a different edge to this Cowboys defense and that is going to get them to the next level. Sure, they don't have much of a running game. Ezekiel Elliott, yeah, he's there for pass protection and goal line blocking or goal line touches. And guess what? He scored a touchdown. He played his role well. Good for him. But I think this team is a really scary team. And I think a lot of people kind of overlook them because, oh, they're not going to win the playoffs. Oh, great. They're going to win the regular season. That's great. Who cares? They don't win in the playoffs. They're not a real threat. Sometimes, you know, tides are meant to be changed. Well, last time to San Francisco 49ers won a Super Bowl, I believe was 1996, 1996. But yet we don't want to talk about San Francisco, not winning Super Bowls. They've been to Super Bowls. They've been to NFC championships. That's great. But why do we give them the benefit of the doubt? They can't win the big game. The San Francisco 49ers cannot win the, they can't win the big game, but we don't keep that same energy to San Francisco. It's interesting to me. So Dak Prescott from pick 135. A compensation fourth round pick to $60 million a year to over 200 million. Tip the cap to you. Dak Prescott last season was first in touchdowns in the NFL. He was second in completion percentage in the NFL and he was third in yards. That's a great quarterback. He's coming into his prime and he's going to play at a high level. I said, hey, I believe he's going to have an MVP caliber season. If you don't know me right now, I am throwing it all in on this Cowboys team and I don't ever do that. I'm as pessimistic as you will ever find. I don't believe I don't buy in. You get your heart broken and you get disappointed way too much. I think that changes this year. I think this is a different Cowboys team. Everybody wants to talk about, oh, they lost all these great players to free agency. All this and that. They lost role players. Sure, role players are important, but they brought in role players that are pretty damn good too. How about Eric Kendrick's? Not bad, right? Venom, free agent, people scoff at it, interception, one and a half sacks on Sunday. You want to talk about a team. You want to talk about a team is defense. That was unbelievable. First of all, this Cowboys team with CD and DAC, they had to get those contracts because they are 34 and 16. That's a pretty good win percentage when those two are on the field together, not bad, not bad at all. But you want to talk about a team that plays lights out and that's this Cowboys defense. I just said they're better than what they were last year and oh boy do I believe that. Oh boy, do I believe that. Look at this defense, absolutely outrageous against Cleveland on Sunday, eight past deflections and by the way, this is without the Ron Bland, just wait till he gets back. Six tackles for loss, six sacks, three takeaways, they had six sacks and they had three takeaways. Micah Parsons has yet to get that defensive player of the year crown. Guys, we forget, we forget, Micah is only in year three. He's in year three and he's this, this dominant. Oh my, they're going to be tough to beat this year. You know, getting Trayvon Diggs back from that torn ACL, big deal had an interception. First interception in 357 days, man, is it good to have Trayvon back. This team is going to fly to the ball. All year long, I think the Dallas Cowboys team is legit as could be. And I said, maybe not on the podcast, but in my personal life, I said, look, the Cowboys got to, they got to win one out of the two to start the season between at Cleveland or home to Baltimore in week three. Not stating we should overlook the Saints game next week because the Saints had a great performance. We'll get there in a second, but I think if the Cowboys want to do what they can do, they got to do that early on. Take care of business one week at a time. I think Dak played great. CD Lam is going to be the best receiver in football this year. They have the best kicker in football. And I think this is what makes Dallas scary. They have the best defensive player in football. They have the best wide receiver in football. They have the best kicker in football. At some point, all your heartbreak and all your shortcomings change. And I'm going to ride this take this year. I think it continues and I'm very happy this Sunday. And I think Cleveland on the other hand, you're concerned. I think when you look at the Browns, Deshawn Watson's not it. Deshawn Watson gets 200 million plus guaranteed. He's just, I believe, a million short of Dak Prescott. First of all, let that sit in. I want that to sit in, and guaranteed money. Deshawn Watson and Dak, a million dollars off and guaranteed money. What are we doing? Deshawn Watson is not good ever since he sat out that season after having his suspension. If that was an actual suspension, but it's levels night and day difference between watching Dak and Deshawn play. And I think Cleveland's got to be worried because yikes, yikes. I would not feel good if I'm a Browns fan. I would not feel good if I was a Browns fan and all seriousness. Because that was a tough showing. Look, here's one thing. The Dallas Cowboys defense, I think, is personally the best defensive unit in the NFL. I think you can make an argument. The Cowboys and Browns are the two best units in the NFL. And Cleveland's offense was doing their defense no favors at all. They were on the field the entire game, felt like. So yeah, it's tough, but I think Dallas is in a good spot. And I think Cleveland, they got Jacksonville next week, they got to get their things figured out. Deshawn Watson. Everybody in that locker room in Cleveland knows that James Winston is more of a leader than Deshawn. James Winston is a guy the team would rather be around than Deshawn. And I don't know how long they can deal with Deshawn Watson not playing at a high level. Last year was frustrating for Cleveland fans with Deshawn. This start to this year, you couldn't ask for a worst year. I mean, yeah, the offensive line wasn't great. Deshawn was fighting for his life the entire night, but he still looked horrible on passes that he should have completed. He just looked awful, not impressed with Cleveland, not impressed with Cleveland. Let's talk about the Thursday night game though, the Ravens and the Chiefs. What a way to come back with the NFL, right? We could have opened up the show with that, but look, Isaiah likely being a toe out of bounds is a reason why they lost. It's insane to me. That's a heartbreaking loss for Baltimore. That game just had a different feel to it. There's certain games that just feel like a big game. There's certain games that just feel like, hey, like this feels like a playoff game. And any time the Chiefs get together with the Ravens or any time the Chiefs get together with the Bengals, it just has a different feel. And that Ravens Chiefs feel on Thursday night to welcome pass back to the NFL was awesome. Was awesome. That was a hell of a game. That was a hell of a game and a game where it was back and forth, back and forth, back and forth comes down to the wire. And just when you thought it couldn't get any better, Isaiah likely touchdown to send it to overtime gets overturned because his foot, his toe, his toe was out of bounds. That was a welcome back to the NFL moment. If you ask me, Baltimore though, they got problems in their offensive line. And that's a concern for me in the Baltimore Ravens this year. If that offensive line can't block, you saw what Chris Jones did all night long against that Ravens. Oh, wine. He caused havoc. He was getting up there and he was making plays. I think that's a problem in Baltimore. Kansas City on the other hand, who let him get Xavier worthy? Who let him get Xavier worthy? Who let them get Xavier worthy? I mean, Buffalo did because Buffalo traded for Keon Coleman instead of Xavier worthy. And that's going to come back to haunt them because Xavier worthy in that offense is going to be a Tyreak 2.0 and be a star. He's got the speed to do it. I think he's going to have an unbelievable career there. And Kansas City, the rich get richer, unbelievable. But they start the season 1 and 0, Baltimore goes to 0 and 1. And look, this is a tough thing for Baltimore, right? They got to play Dallas week three. There's a real shot Baltimore starts 1 and 2. So they got Vegas Raiders next week. They're going to have to take care of business there. But it's a one week at a time, anything can happen in the NFL. And surely, surely anything can happen in the NFL because go look at what the Patriots did the Cincinnati Bengals. First of all, let's just start with this. Jamar Chase is a diva. We talked about it last episode. He is a diva. He is being a bad teammate, not practicing, not going to training camp all off season. I don't have any sympathy for anybody that does this. Even if you have a year left on your contract, I still think there's better ways to do it than holding out. I think you should just play football. But Jamar Chase has two years left on his contract. He has two years left on his contract. He was being arrogant to the media, talking about how he's best receiving the NFL. He's not. He's not. You know, talking about how he can kick Justin Jefferson's ass and money if he really wants to. Justin Jefferson's a better wide receiver than Jamar. And for Jamar, not to really practice or the week up to the Patriots game to go out and be limited all week, and then to come out against the New England Patriots who have no expectations at all that are not trying to even make the playoffs this year to go out. And the Cincinnati Bengals go out and score 10 points against the horrible Patriots team? That's not going to cut it. And I do think it has to do with Jamar Chase. I think there was off the field distractions, not knowing if he's going to play questionable this and that. I mean, not having T Higgins because of his hamstring injury, right? It's unacceptable regardless. This is a loss that the Cincinnati Bengals could not afford. This is a loss that the Cincinnati Bengals have to figure out how they can turn this around. It's week one. Sure. But you lost at home to the New England Patriots with Jacobi Bursett at quarterback. Jacobi Bursett. If that doesn't scream red flag, we got problems. I don't know what will because that is really bad. That is really, really bad if you are the Cincinnati Bengals. When you look at what the Bengals did last year, they only lost two fumbles the entire year. They had two fumbles in week one against the Patriots. That's not going to cut it. That is not going to cut it. That was a really, really bad loss for the Cincinnati Bengals, a loss that they surely could not afford and they have to go and they have to figure it out. They have to go and they have to figure it out because that was a really, really bad loss to say the least. I'm not impressed. I am not impressed with that being said, Cincinnati's got a quick turn on. They got to figure out how they're going to be Kansas City and if you're the New England Patriots, it's kind of funny because like, of course you want to win every game you're a part of, but this is just a longer process of getting to Drake May, which could be good. Maybe he's not fully ready yet, but everybody wants to win. I'm not saying Patriot fans wanted to lose, but I'm sure you'd rather tank and continue to rebuild and see what you have in Drake May, but Jacobi Brissette, the veteran he is, showed up when things mattered and gets the win. So shout out to the Patriots Cincinnati on the other hand, I'm concerned. I am completely concerned for the Bengals because losing the Patriots is an unacceptable thing, especially on your home field and it's week one. This isn't a week eight. This isn't a week 12 when a game comes up and sneaks up on to you when you're in the gauntlet of your schedule. This is the game you have been preparing all off season long. I don't buy into it like college football, where South Carolina looked awful against old dominion, but comes out and looks really good against Kentucky in week two, right? Kind of overlooking old dominion, but all their focus is on to Kentucky. I don't buy that in the NFL. You're not focused on the Chiefs. You're focused on the Patriots like you were all off season, but that is why in the NFL, it is any given Sunday, any given Sunday, you have to be ready because anybody can beat you on any given Sunday. And you saw that with the New England Patriots walking right into Paycore Stadium and embarrassing the Cincinnati Bengals. Look, I didn't think the Bengals had any rhythm all night on Sunday. I thought they struggled. I thought they were horrible. I thought Joe Burrow was not great. I thought the offensive line was not great. I thought they couldn't get any run game going. I just thought it was just a horrible, horrible performance for the Cincinnati Bengals. And the New England Patriots, I thought Ramandre Stevenson played well. I thought that defense was fine to the football. I thought they were playing lights out awful, awful, awful loss for the Cincinnati Bengals. That's a tough one to get over. That's a tough one to get over. Not good. They got to figure it out fast because they are on the verge of going to O and two. And that's really tough to do in the national football league to come back from, especially when you look at their division. It is so good. Now, look, the Steelers, they're the only team that won in week one out of this AFC North, but that is still a really good division that is going to get it figured out. Not good for the Bengals at all. Not good at all. You know what else isn't good? Bryce Young. I don't care that he's still young into his career. I feel like early in the NFL, you kind of know if you got it or you don't. At least you show flashes, right? We saw flashes with CJ Stroud last year, which I think all of us respect CJ Stroud as the top end quarterback in the league, right? You look at CJ Stroud and we say, yeah, this guy's got the it factor. This guy's got the potential to take his team far. The Houston Texans have been terrible. They've been terrible for years, right? CJ took that team with no expectations into the playoffs and won a playoff game. Won a playoff game, right? So we know what CJ Stroud's got. He's got the it factor. Where we have not seen that with Bryce Young. Now look, Carolina has not done a good job building around him like Houston did, right? Houston did a better job building for CJ Stroud than what the Carolina Panthers have done for Bryce Young. Bryce Young looked really bad, really bad. In their 47 to 10 loss, look, I thought the Cowboys beat the crap out of the Browns. No, the Saints beat the crap out of the Panthers. The 47-10 in the NFL is ridiculous. It is ridiculous. It's Bryce Young, two interceptions, 13 for 30, awful. His offensive line didn't help him either. The Saints played good football, but man, I mean, wow, that's a concerning Carolina. Look, they didn't have any expectations. But 47 to 10 in week one, that's horrible. Now, look, maybe the New Orleans Saints are better than what we thought. I thought this team was going to be a team that could contend to win the division. I don't think the Saints are going to be a wildcard team. I think you've got to win. I think when I look at the NFC South, you've got to win the division to get in, right? It's been the laughing stock of the NFC for quite some time the last couple of years, and I still think that's got to be the way to do it between the three team race of the Falcons Saints and the Buccaneers. And maybe the Saints are better than what we thought. Also, having Taysom Hill as a gadget is really nice. It is really good if you are the New Orleans Saints. We're going to know what the Saints are built of. You know, they embarrassed the Panthers. That's good. That's what you should do. Now, we're going to see what the Saints are made of. You know, their next two weeks, they go to Dallas, and then they get Philadelphia. We're going to know what they're made of. You know, Dallas is home opener. We just saw what Dallas did to Cleveland. I think that's an underrated matchup, especially for a 1 o'clock matchup next week. I think that is a really good game. And really get to see what both teams are made of. And I think I'm really excited for that game. I think there's better games that could be on the Sunday night slate than Houston and Chicago, but we'll get into that later this week. But big win for the Saints. I thought Derek Carr looked comfortable. I thought the Saints defense flew around in the ball. I just think the Carolina Panthers were the worst team in the NFL and, you know, tank for James Pierce, Tennessee defensive end, or Luther Burden. Yeah. Tank for Luther Burden. Tank for someone. They don't need a court. Well, maybe they do need a quarterback because Bryce Young's atrocious. I don't know. Dave Tepper has done an awful job, an awful job with that organization, not going to sugar code it awful, awful, not good for Carolina. Good for the Saints, though, and the Saints get ready to go to Dallas for an underrated week to match up. It's good to have Kyle Murray back, isn't it? It's good to have Kyle Murray back. The Arizona Cardinals went to Buffalo, you know, gave us all, like, an interest thinking, "Oh, they're going to go on the road and be Buffalo." But they end up losing 34 to 28 in a one-phenomenal football game. Carr, you know, Buffalo had to come back from a 17 to 3 deficit in the first half. And then Josh Hill, or not Josh Hill, Josh Allen, he switched something on. He said, "All right. Let's go play football." I thought Josh Allen played great. Took him a little bit, but he welded the bills to a win with four touchdowns. He had two in the air and two on the ground, and he played as a MVP elite level quarterback should. And he didn't turn over the football besides, no, he did have a fumble, but he didn't throw an interception. But I thought Josh Allen played good, and I thought they needed to rely on him late in the game. He showed up when it mattered the most. I am going to say, I do think the Arizona Cardinals are going to be our Green Bay Packers and Houston Texans. What I mean by that is a team that the year before kind of sucked, and coming into this year, you don't really have high expectations. Nobody has high expectations on the Arizona Cardinals. They play in a tough division, got to play the Niners twice, and the best chance to get in the playoffs is to get to that wild card spot. I really like Arizona. Kylo Murray gets them that next level ability, and look, his first opening day touchdown in two years was today. You know, he's not been in the NFL for quite some time because of that injury, but he only had one incompletion in the first quarter. I thought he has that explosiveness and that excitement that I think can keep Arizona in a lot of games. And I think they got, you know, not maybe a great defense, but they got playmakers. And Kylo's one of those guys. James Connors, a good veteran back, they got some Trey Benson, young talent there out of Florida State. I like Arizona. I think the Cardinals can make a little bit of noise. Let's just keep an eye on them. Buffalo, though, gets a win in Buffalo, a much needed win, and just like I talked about earlier in the episode, they got a fun one. They got a really fun one, Thursday night football, this Thursday, where they get the dolphins in Miami. I'm really excited for that game spread as Miami one and a half. I think that's going to be a really, really good game to say the least. Let's talk about Caleb Williams. All right, guys got all the hype in the world. Chicago's back. They got a little excitement about them. They're feeling a playoff fever before they've even played a game. They come out and they're down 17 nothing to the Tennessee Titans. The Titans are not good. The Titans do not have eye expectations. They are not a playoff team. And oh boy, Chicago looked awful, awful. And so did Caleb Williams, or in the first quarter, you saw Caleb Williams, throw for three passes for five yards and took a sack. And a good storm for Caleb Williams and his career. But what saved them is special teams and defense. Look, I think it's going to take a little bit for Caleb Williams to find himself. They're for only 93 yards against a Tennessee Titans team that is not good. I'm not going to say it's concerning because look, it's a rookie quarterback. It's tough to be successful in this league, especially as a rookie quarterback. Okay? Wow, what I do know is that Chicago offense was awful, awful, awful. We're going to have to look. They next week, they're the sunny night football game against the Houston Texans. I'm not going to overreact to one week. Look, I think the Cleveland Browns are going to be fine. I think they can still get into the playoffs just because the Dallas Cowboys kick their ass doesn't mean I'm going to think any differently of the way I thought of them coming into that game. I thought Cleveland's a good team. I still think they're a good team. I think Chicago has potential to be exciting. I don't know if they can be a playoff team. Their defense and special teams won them this football game. Will Levis throwing that moutered of an interception to end the game and basically wrap up a Chicago victory? That's not great. Tennessee should have done a lot better. I mean, they're down 17 and nothing and yet Chicago did not score an offensive touchdown. Didn't score an offensive touchdown? No. You see Cairo Santos hit three field goals, which ended up, you know, being nine points on himself. Then they had a block kick recovered by Jonathan Owens, by the way, Simone Biles husband. That's for a touchdown. And then late in the fourth quarter, Will Levis starts with pick six. The Chicago Bears scored 24 points without even scoring a single offense of touchdown. Okay. Special teams defense, they played great, great. I think the verdict is still out on Caleb Williams and we're not going to overreact. We're not going to say this and that about Caleb, but it's one game. Let's see what he does on the road in Houston on Sunday night. That game could get ugly really fast by the way next Sunday. Just going to let you're going to leave that one out there. We'll see. I think the biggest surprise of the day was the Minnesota Vikings and Sam Darnold. Sam Darnold started that game 10 for 10 and a touchdown. He was on fire. He was on fire. I thought he played unbelievable. I thought he was absolutely unbelievable. I thought having a, you know, partner in crime and Aaron Jones, you know, it's weird seeing Aaron Jones in a rivals jersey in Minnesota, but 16 touches 109 yards and a touchdown. Thought Aaron Jones was awesome. Thought Aaron Jones was awesome. I think they got problems in New York. The New York Giants got problems. They get some really, really, really bad problems because Daniel Jones is atrocious. I have no idea why they gave him the money. I have no idea why in the world they thought he was going to be the guy that could lead them after one okay year. They are so bad. That was a poor showing for the New York Giants. The Minnesota Vikings are not a great football team. They don't have their franchise quarterback in J.J. McCarthy. They don't have high expectations. Minnesota is not a playoff team and they came into New York and they kicked their ass. It is going to be a really, really, really, really long year for the New York Giants. It's going to be a long year for the New York Giants. It's kind of the best way I can put it. Good luck if you're a Giants fan because it's not going to be fun. It's not going to be fun. Yeah. You don't know a fun fact? The Indianapolis Colts haven't won a week one game in over a decade. 2013 was the last time the Indianapolis Colts have won a football game on opening day. They still have not won one as of today. C.J. Stroud put it to the Colts, 234 yards passing, two touchdowns, gets a hard fought division or win. It's a mix since the story of this game. 33 touches, 178 yards and a touchdown. That's his most carries he's ever had in an NFL game. I think that's a good addition to that offense. Let's not forget. They brought Stefan Diggs from Buffalo. He goes in and he gets a touchdown too. Houston's got a high powered offense and they got one fun football team down there. Indianapolis on the other hand, you saw some flashes with Anthony Richardson, had an absolute bomb and a half throw that really wowed me. But there was some misthrows and bad throws and bad timing interception. I think Houston has potential to be really good this year. I think Indianapolis has potential to fight and keep themselves in playoff consideration all year. But I think Houston's going to win that division this year when I look at them. Let's also talk about the Friday night game, the Friday night game. We had the Eagles and the Packers and the story here is the Jordan Love injury. Jordan Love sprained the MCL out three to four weeks and that's devastating because every game matters in the NFL. I don't know how Green Bay is going to stay afloat. Malik Willis is not great. He's not great and Green Bay is going to have to stay afloat. Why Jordan Love is in recovery and it's disappointing. It really is because when you look at the Green Bay Packers football team, they have the tools to do it. They have an exciting offense. Matt LaFlore is a great offensive football mind. You think highly when you think of the Packers. They just took the Eagles toe to toe. Probably should have won this game against Philadelphia. They had a chance. But Jordan Love getting injured and bringing in Josh Jacobs. They did good things. They did good things this offseason and that injury is devastating, devastating. Philadelphia on the other hand, look, bringing in Seguant Barkley was such a big deal. 109 rushing yards, two touchdowns. He goes in and gets a receiving touchdown as well, three touchdowns in his Eagles debut as they go to Brazil and win. Look, I'll tell you what, I don't think they're going back to Brazil anytime soon. The field conditions were awful. Everything that went into that game was awful. That was a disaster to go to Brazil. I don't think they are going back and I don't think they should. But Philadelphia gets the week one win over Green Bay, prayers off to Jordan Love, hopefully he can get healthy fast and soon. And then let's talk about the Atlanta Falcons. They got, look, I have so high expectations here on the Falcons. I think the Atlanta Falcons have what it takes to be a really, really good football team. I do, I do. But Kurt Cousins looks scared and I know he's coming off that torn Achilles. He looks scared to get hit. He's struggled to make good throws. That defense was okay, okay? But still not good enough. I was not impressed whatsoever. Not at all with the Atlanta Falcons. And that's unfortunate because I want to think that they're going to be good. I have high expectations for this Falcons team. The Steelers are not a good football team. They're not Justin Fields and Russell Wilson are not guys that should lead them to victory. But Justin Fields can completely outplayed Kurt Cousins and that cannot happen if you are the Atlanta Falcons. Look, the Atlanta Falcons have really high expectations this year. The Atlanta Falcons are a team that thinks that they can win the division and do something in the playoffs. That was a horrible showing, a horrible, horrible showing for the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. And that is not going to cut it. They have to be a lot better, a lot better. Kurt Cousins two interceptions were scared to get hit all game, not impressed whatsoever with Kurt Cousins and the Atlanta Falcons. TJ Watt is still a wrecking ball. TJ Watt is still absolutely unbelievable and he is a hell of a playmaker. But we're going to come back to the NFL. We're going to jump into college football here though, change a pace here and we're going to start at the big house. In a 31 to 12 beat down, a 31 to 12 beat down of the Texas Longhorns over the Michigan Wolverines, a complete beat down. I said it guys. I said I thought Texas was going to steamroll them. I've been pretty good at my early season predictions. I'm really happy about that. But I said Texas was going to steamroll them and cover, man, this was a game that looked like it was met amongst boys. You know, varsity versus freshmen, not even JV. Michigan looked really bad. The big house was quiet. Quinn Ewers in Texas came out from the start got ball first and put it to Michigan and they didn't look back. Steve Starkesian in Texas Longhorns looked like a national championship contender. And I was lower on them coming into the season more than anybody else was because losing those two star running backs early on, I thought was going to be a dagger that would really hurt the Texas Longhorns. They have not missed a beat. Quinn Ewers is the guy, Texas defense is legit, there are offenses legit. This team is legit Michigan on the other hand, oh my God. I did not, look, I wasn't surprised, I wasn't impressed with Michigan against Fresno State League one. They leave me no reason why I should be impressed with them after that Texas game. They got games against USC on this schedule. They got games against Oregon on this schedule. They got to go to Ohio State. This Michigan team is going to be a three four loss team. I don't think this team is going to sneak into the playoffs nor showed that. They look atrocious. They look atrocious. They look bad. They look really bad. Kentucky, talking about teams that looked bad, Kentucky looked bad. They laid an egg and it's unfortunate because when you look at week three of college football, it's a really bad week of college football. College game day was going to go to Lexington against Georgia. Every time they were going to go to Lexington since 2007, I believe, 2006, 2007. It's unfortunate. From start to finish, Kentucky just didn't have it. Thanks to South Carolina as defensive line. Look, Dylan Stewart, the five star freshman, guys a tank. That guy is going to cause havoc in the SEC for years to come. He's going to play on Sundays. Lenore Sellers made plays. It's just disappointing and frustrating for Kentucky football to have a huge opportunity to have college game day come in. That was going to happen. That is a given. Like college game day was coming here if you beat South Carolina and delay an egg like that. It's concerning. You got to turn around. You got to play Georgia and that's a tough, tall task. We'll see what they can do. But it's an unfortunate loss to say the least, unfortunate loss. But some of these games on the Saturday slate, I'll tell you which one I was just absolutely locked into late night. But it was worth staying up every second of it, Oregon versus Boise State. This game was awesome, awesome. I'm going to tell you my favorite player in college football and a guy that I think is going to be really fun in the NFL. Aston Gente is unbelievable. 25 carries, 192 rushing yards and three touchdowns against the number seven Oregon Ducks. This is coming off of a game where he had 20 carries, 267 yards and six touchdowns. No, I'm not joking. In two games, Aston Gente has nine touchdowns, nine touchdowns. His kid is an unbelievable talent. What a game. That Boise State Oregon game I was in love with. I didn't want to keep my eyes off of it. I was watching every single second of it because I was so locked into it. It was awesome. It was awesome. I love this Boise State team. I hope they somehow sneak into the college football office, the group of five teams because they're electric. But Oregon did win 37 to 34. This is a game where, look, I thought Boise State had a chance to win this Boise State was up 34, 27 late in the fourth quarter after Aston Gente had two touchdowns to start the fourth quarter and a kickoff return for a touchdown was great. And then as time expired, Oregon hits a game when he field goal. I'm concerned. Oregon did win this game. Yes, Boise State is a good early test. I would not be concerned if they didn't look so bad against Idaho, but yet here we are. This is two weeks in a row. Now see an Oregon struggle. Now they got to go to their archrival, Oregon State this week, and I think that's going to be a fun game against the Oregon State Beavers. That should be a good one, Oregon State, a team 2-0 on the early season with wins over San Diego State and Idaho State. Now they get to be at home against Oregon. And look, those games are always tough to play, but Oregon is just a little concerning for me early on. I think they will get it together and they better figure it out. They better figure it out by October the fourth or October 12th. And they got to Ohio State coming to town. What a game that is. But little concern there for Oregon, but that was a game I was in love with. I was staying up. I was watching every single second of it, Tennessee, demolished NC State, they're the real deal. Alabama survived to scare against South Florida. South Florida almost came to, you know, save and field and almost shocked the Crimson side. So good week at college football. The NFL, though, is king and that now leads us into the Sunday night football game between the Rams and the Lions to end the show. And what an unbelievable game that was between Detroit and LA. Where you have the Rams coming in and they're battling injuries. Pooka Nakua gets injured with a knee injury, doesn't return in the first half. You need guys to step up and that's exactly what Cooper Cup did. Cooper Cup had the game of his life. I mean, when you are Mr. Old reliable, like Cooper Cup is, this is just another night at the office. I thought he was absolutely incredible for the Rams on Sunday night, but it was too short. I mean, yes, Cooper Cup goes out, 14 catches, ties his career high, 110 yards and a touchdown. Look, they battled offensive line injuries all night long. Matthew Stafford played on a herd ankle all night and yet they still continue to fight. They still continue to make plays, which I was really impressed with and the Lions are gritty. They're gritty. If you gave me one word to describe the Lions, it's gritty. That's what Dan Campbell brings out of them, a toughness mentality. They're going to be physical. They're going to play hard. They're going to play fast. And yeah, they were up 17 to three. LA comes back, takes a lead with an opportunity to win the game late in the game, couldn't seal it, Detroit Bates sent it to overtime and then overtime was the David Montgomery show. And that is a massive win for the Detroit Lions in front of their home crowd. You got to win your home games in the NFL. You got to win your home games in the NFL. The road games you win are just bonuses. You got to win your home games, Detroit protected home field. That was a great game. We had one hell of a Sunday night, seriously. And first of all, when the Rams and Lions got together last postseason, phenomenal. Time and night to start the year, phenomenal. I mean, they are off to the NFL is off to a unbelievable start. The third Z and I game between Baltimore and Kansas City, awesome. Friday night game of Brazil, amazing. And then the Sunday slate, you had game-winner field goals all day long, close games. And then the Sunday night game to, you know, put the icing on the cake. What a way, what a way to finish a Sunday and get us into an next week. Now the Monday night game between the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Jets tonight should be a fun one. We have Aaron Rodgers returning from his Achilles for San Francisco. The Super Bowl runners up. This is a fun, fun, fun game that we have on Monday night. And wow, what a week of football. I loved it. And this is only the beginning, 17 more regular season weeks of this, add on some more with the playoffs. It is a beautiful, beautiful time of the year, ladies and gentlemen. I will see you guys on Thursday. I love you guys. Peace out. [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC]
