We've got you. for a 3 hour ride on this bears football Friday with open phone lines for you 3 1 2 3 2 ESPN 3 3 2 3 7 7 6 our phone number reminding you that the first game of the regular season takes place Sunday with the bears and the Titans are full coverage starts at 7 a.m. with Jeff Miller with his fantasy football show moving forward throughout all of our pre game with Sylvie and Lance Briggs and Dion Miller make sure that you're locked into the home of the bears all season long. ESPN 1000 starting Sunday at 7 a.m. and cap cannot wait we've been waiting for a long time and we're finally here with the bears and the Titans and I just think that this will be one of the most interesting seasons that we've had in a long time. I think about it. We've had some seasons where he said this won't be the year they're going to kind of tank or boy there's going to be underwater they're chill trying to build towards something but this season will tell a great story about Ryan polls about what they've built here in the off season as we get ready for the bears and Titans. Everybody's so excited and rightly so now there are the eddies from the north side and others out there who are like well we were excited last year too. I think there was excitement buzz but there was more trepidation because we hadn't seen it yet from Justin. I think he might be the guy and we were as guilty as anybody to go. Okay that's our guy. He was our guy. Great athlete. This is different. The bears have never ever had the pick of the litter. They walked into the draft and went we get the best guy. Who is it? Do the homework. They studied everything about this kid. Then they surround him with DeAndre Swift, Keenan Allen, DJ Moore, Roma Dunesay. They add some upgrades to the offensive line. Dude I have not looked forward to a bear's opener in a very very very long time like this. Now get Tennessee's gotten good players. I don't know if we'll love us as the guy. They don't know if he's the guy. It's read an article last night where they said we're going to give him this year and see if he is the guy. If he's not they're going to pick near the top of the draft and they'll get their quarterback. Sure. But I cannot wait for Sunday to see our team to see our quarterback. Let's freakin' go. As you well know when it comes to home shopping cap you can go to many homes in many different neighborhoods. And I think that when you're looking for a home you want to get a 10 out of 10 if you can right? I think the curb appeal, the big size bedroom, make sure that you have enough desk space for your office. Make sure you have a basement or whatever you need as far as extra rooms. You feel like if it's not 10 out of 10 it's 8 out of 10. But for your wife and you or your partner and you you're thinking this is perfect. This is exactly what we want. But and there's always a but. And we've heard that but a lot this summer where people say you know what? I like what they've been able to do. This home looks good. But it's because your gym is 20 minutes away. It's because the public transportation is not where you want it. Is it too far away from where you work? It's always something. I like it but. And when it comes to the bears I think a lot of the calls we've had. I'd say the majority of the calls is like yeah you know what? I'm looking forward to the season. But because there's so many that look at the curb appeal of the Chicago Bears and say I like this team. However I've been there before. Well wait a minute you haven't been there before because of what the Bears are being able to build. This home is exactly what you want. You should move into this home that Ryan Polls is built. You know why? Because it's built to last. You don't have to worry about flooding cap when you've got DJ Moore and Roma Dunes A and Ken Allen. You don't have to worry about the brick and the issues as far as the tuck pointing when it comes to several tight ends and cold commit and Joe Everett. You don't have to worry about the structure of the home cap when you think about the defense, especially the secondary that this team has. Again you have not been there before because many years leading into a season you know we've seen holes in a roster. That's not right. That's not okay. Well we got this but that's not right. It's very few things that you circle on this depth chart where you say I'm not ready to move into this home. Yeah, again what I love to have a all pro Trent Williams a left tackle. Sure. What I love to have Creed Humphrey from the Chiefs playing center for us. Yeah. But like you said when you go shopping for a home you got to do it on your budget. Sure. I can go look for a house with Mindy and I can't afford what Matt Eber flew spies up in a lake forest. He's got a lake and a forest. Yeah. He's got both. Yeah. Yeah. He's right off the lake and it's multi millions in his home. We're not at that level. Okay. But you got to find what works for you. And the Bears did I think a magnificent job of upgrading their roster and putting a support system around a young quarterback. Do I think they're at the level of the Chiefs and the Ravens yet? I don't. Can they get there? Maybe. Maybe they're another draft and free agency class away. But it's here three now and in the National Football League, when you go from three to seven, you better take the next step. If they go out and win five six ball games, there's going to be a lot of people going, hang on a second now. King Paul's. What's going on here? Eber Flus? Get out. I believe this is a 11 win football team. I do. I really do. I really look at that kid totally different than any quarterback I'd looked at. I hoped Mitch would be the guy he wasn't. We missed. I hope Justin would be the guy he wasn't. This kid, if this one doesn't work, I don't know how you fix that. You've done everything right from how you studied him, from how you brought him here, how you got him to playbook early like Albert Breer talked about in March. They're doing install. He hadn't even drafted yet to getting Keenan Allen and all these other dudes. If this doesn't work, I don't know what to tell you. What Damien Woody said is like, if the Bears can't get this right, they'll never get it right. I know that was polarizing when he said that on Sports Center, but that's the thing. Cap, I think for perspective, you go back to those other quarterbacks that you mentioned, Mitchell Trubisky as well as Justin Fields and look at those rosters. Just take a look at the roster. Look at the depth charts of when they first started with the Chicago Bears and then compared to what Caleb Williams has. See, infrastructure is big when we talk about this, right? With Mitchell Trubisky, again, yeah, you hoped it worked out, but it was, he supplied with everything that he needed. Like Caleb Williams says everything he needs. He had three wide receivers cap. He has three rookies of his ilk only get one, maybe. Right? As price young was happening in Carolina. Look at the rookie quarterbacks and look at the lack of weapons that many rookie quarterbacks have. I mean, God bless CJ Stroud. He got everything that he needed enough to be able to get to the playoffs last year. My point is, though, is that think about Mitch. I think about Justin. And then now think about Caleb Williams as far as the roster around him. Big difference. Good difference. Like when they go, Alan Robinson was with Mitch. It's fine. Fine. Yeah. Good play. Remember he won a 20 million a year? Brian Pace, the old GM said, absolutely not. He never got paid. I don't even know if he's on a roster anymore. He got waived this summer by the Giants. When you have Keenan Allen, look at what CJ Stroud had last year. Nico Collins, Tank Dell. Good players. You didn't start the season. Look at that wide receiver room. He made them really good players. Our guy, he's rolling in with DJ Moore, who just got paid one of the highest contracts in the NFL wide receiver. The biggest the Bears have ever paid. Keenan Allen, a six time pro bowler. Roma Dunezay, who was a top 10 NFL draft pick in all American at Washington. Tyler Scott, it gives you great speed. He's your four. Yes. World class speed. Right. So I'm ready for Sunday, man. Let's kick it off and let's find out where we're at. So a lot of things that we've been reading over the last, say, six weeks or so as far as previewing the Bears season is based on people looking at the roster and saying, hmm, this could be this year's Lions. Or this year's Houston Texans, meaning that you can't get away from how good this roster is as far as difference makers on a cap. Again, three wide receivers and two tight ends and a strong strong is a rock secondary where they could be opportunistic and turn the field over for the offense. So I like that comparison. And if that is the case where the Bears are like the Lions of last year or the Houston Texans, that's a playoff team. Now, you have 11 wins and I'm locking it in at nine and eight. And the reason why it's nine and eight and a playoff team is because if they supersede nine wins, you know I'm happy, right? I'm happy. But I always think about how everything gels in the first year of all of this happening at the same time. It's a crucial year for either flus, but it's a season that I think that he can survive, because this will be the first time ever as a head coach that he will coach a team that's over 500. I can I can lock that in. That's going to happen. He can do that, unless there's injuries that we don't know about it and they become a mass unit. This team should be built to last to be one of the playoff teams in the NFC. I don't think there's any question about the roster says so. I agree with you. However, as I will stand on this as well, because it is a rookie quarterback, a rookie wide receiver, a first time offensive coordinator with this team would Shane Waldron. I just think that there's going to be growing pains here or there. It's just that's what it is. I would love for it to be perfect, but I know that there's always going to be growing pains. We talked about this a couple of days ago about Caleb Williams. And I said, you know, you brought the point up. You said, there's going to be times where he's going to scramble. And he's going to revert back to his time at USC. Like, Oh, I got time. I'm just going to run backwards for 10 yards. Damn. Yeah, then all of a sudden out of nowhere, he sprawled out and it's like, Oh, Caleb got hit with you got knocked the F out. That's how that happened. Well, because you can't just do loop de loops. Hey, only one guy in the NFL can do that. And that's Patrick Mahomes. Yeah, I watched him do loop de loops last night went. Oh my God. Yeah, he's because he's special that way. Everyone wants to reach that level. That's Steph Curry in cleats. That's who that's who we see in Patrick Mahomes. And I hope our guy becomes that, but you got to earn that. That's why I'm saying that there's going to be games cap. We're going to come in here on Monday. Like, how do we lose that game against that team? How did that happen? Because the quarterback reverted back to his old ways and his old individual tendencies. And it's always fine for college. But there's a difference. You're going to see it. Correct. And we all see it every year with rookie quarterbacks cap. They revert back to, well, I got time. I'm just going to draw it up in the dirt. I got time. We're going to rip the playbook up. We don't need to hold on a second. You have to be able to be wedded to your playbook and what you're doing. If you had throw the ball away, throw the ball away. I never did that in college. I'll just run around. I'll find a guy open. No, you won't. Those doors close. Yeah, go ahead and fill quickly. Jeffrey Simmons is coming to eat on Sunday. And if people out there are like, who? That guy is one of the best past Russia's in the National Football League. And he has made it public. I'm coming for Caleb. Better get the football out. Yeah. Two point five seconds with Tom Brady says, if it's more than that, it's the QB's fault. No one else. All the practices and the scrimmages in the world cannot be able to give you exactly what he's got coming up on Sunday against the Titans. Right. Because I was with Thayer last night and a huge shout out to Jewel, their 125th anniversary. They did a huge event with the Chicago Social Club. There was a volleyball event. Tom and I were the hosts of it. It was awesome. Awesome. But I was talking to Thayer and he made it. Thank you, Tom. He made, I learned some things about Thayer. Oh my goodness. Wait till I tell you, he made a great point. Great point. He said, there's no more red jersey on Caleb. Caleb could drop back and if he held the ball for five seconds in training camp, no one's hitting him. They'll get his face, but they know they have to pull up. The red jersey means you can't be touched. No red jerseys on Sunday. Yep. They may play you in the ground. And they'll take the 15 yard penalty. They're going to send a message. What are you going to do about it? So all I can tell you, Cap, is that to me, this is a winning team. This is a playoff team. Now what are they going to do about it? It's all about what you're going to do on the field. It all looks good. It's in a nice package. Nice bow on it. Nice blue and orange bow on it. Now what are you going to do about it? Don't be one of those teams where you have talent and it never manifests itself. That would suck. That would suck. That would suck because time's running out on Matty Reflow's and the number of these players, if they can't get it done. This is year three. Gotta win now. Yeah. So I love our GM. Sure. He'll tell you. Gotta win. Because if not, it's a roll. No it doesn't. No it doesn't. So how confident are you in the Bears that they can get a win on Sunday against Titans? Let's talk about it. 3 1 2 3 3 2 ESPN 3 3 2 3 7 7 6 our phone number Shayla's over the phone lines and talk to you, the Bear fan. Coming up next on the home of the Bears, Cap and Jhood. Follow Chicago's home for sports on Twitter at ESPN 1000. Cap and Jhood are back on ESPN Chicago. Chicago's home for sports. Let's go. Let's go. It's the Bears football Friday on the cap and Jhood morning show on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. Here's hoping that you have a great weekend. 3 1 2 3 3 2 3 7 7 6 our phone number. How confident are you that the Bears will get a win on Sunday? So we're talking to you about that Bears fans. Our last time that Cap and I could talk to you about the Bears until we get to our Bears Monday. So if you haven't called this week, what a great opportunity for you to talk about the Bears, your prediction and also your confidence level and that the Bears can win their first game. We reflect back to last year where we thought, okay, this is the time to change and the time to change was not there for the Bears because they fell flat against the Packers. What about the Titans? The schedule also Cap is also setting up nicely for the Bears almost collegiate for Roma Dunes A and for Caleb Williams. You're playing all your non-conference early and then you start getting into the vision in mid November. So unusual. I cannot remember a schedule like this for the Chicago Bears where they're taking all these non-division opponents until November. It's not saying it's softer. It's just different. It is. But look, you get to the NFL, your quality football player doesn't mean your team's going to win the Super Bowl, but every week you're going to face some players that are going to make life very difficult for you. Sure. Kind of see no exception. Let's go. I mean, Lagerie Snead came over from the Chiefs, got paid, Calvin Ridley, got paid, the Andre Hopkins. He's a stud. Jeffrey Simmons, who I mentioned, there's good players there. As we go to the phone lines, we got you guys to talk to Tom Thayer. If you miss it, we talk to Tom Thayer every Thursday at 9 o'clock right here on Cap and J Hood. And he gave his letter grade for the offensive line. Again, a big conversation piece every year with the Bears. But what about what we've seen from training camp into the preseason, his official letter grade for the offensive line going into the Titans game is, you know, I'm going to give you a solid C right now. And as a C, but with the curve and all that, I could probably give you a B minus at the end of Sunday, if they're able to control to Vondre sweat in the middle 6, 4, 3, 66. Jeffrey Simmons is one of the best defensive tackles in the league and he's healthy now that Aaron Donald is no longer in the league. And in our the defensive coordinator, he's creative man. He's going to bring blitzes that are going to outnumber the amount of blockers that the Bears have a valuable to them, either in the middle to the right or the left. So if the offensive line can get that running game going like Cap wants, and then when it becomes down to the obvious second long, third and long, and if they can provide the realistic amount of protection time for Caleb. Then the offensive line has a chance just to upgrade their C that I'm giving them before the season start. See, Cap, that bothers me just because I want to get there on the record with this. We asked him before training camp. What do you think of the offensive line? It's incomplete. Okay. So now, now what it is. Now that you see them in practice and through the preseason game of C, a C is not good enough with a rookie quarterback. It isn't agreed. My hope is that we're not marching in here every day talking about how the offensive line didn't hold up for this rookie quarterback. C is not good enough. So we're talking about Braxton Jones, Kevin Jenkins, Coleman Shelton, Nate Davis, and Darnell Wright. Okay. It's got to get better. Maybe it's not good now, but hopefully by the time we get to week 18, it is better. The one thing I would tell you is Caleb could also help his offensive line by getting the football out on time. Yeah. If he forces them to hold, if he holds it like Justin did, you're going to hear Thayer yelling, throw it! Ball's got to come out. It has to come out on time. I'll say it again. Brady says two and a half. He goes, I can give you two and three quarters. Anything more than that? I don't care what the old line did. It's on me. You know the difference between like the secondary and linebackers in the offensive line? Well, the secondary, I'm sure that that is the strength of the team. The linebackers, you don't hear a lot about them. That's a good thing because they're just doing their job. Yep. We're not complaining about the linebackers every week. Why receiver room? Why receiver running back room? Those are good. Why receiver on paper? We haven't seen them together, but on paper, that should be excellent. It should be very productive. Could be the best room in the building. Now the offensive line. Coleman, look, you get what you pay for. Coleman Shelton's on a one-year deal for $3 million. Now, the optimist says, "I only started all 17 games for the Rams last year." The pessimist says, and then why didn't they bring him back? The optimist says, "Well, he started 30 games in two years." And the pessimist says, "Why isn't he still there? He's that good." The pessimist will also tell you, did you see the center last night for the Chiefs? Yeah. Yeah, his name's Creed Humphrey. He just signed for $70 million. Our guy's getting three. There's a difference. The guy for the Ravens, Tyler Linderbaum. He's really good. Young, spry. Yeah, we don't have one of those. We got a journeyman. That's what that guy is. He's a journeyman. He's okay. It's in a tough spot at the center, though, as a for a journeyman. You understand what I mean? Like, you want someone that's an anchor there, where they're tied together for years. Well, we had that when Olin played. Yeah. How about now? Right. At some point, you're going to have to go out and draft a really, really accomplished center and you're going to have to grow with them or you're going to have to go pay a fortune in free agency, a fortune. Damn it, Doug Kramer. What are you not doing that you can't get on the field? Kramer. He made the roster so he must be getting better because they let him go last year. Then the Bengals pick him up and then they released him and we took him back. Hopefully he's getting better. Come on, Doug. But you've got to find an anchor in the middle there that identifies everything and helps a young quarterback. We got a journeyman. That is a fact. The Doug Kramer family is listening right now and they're unhappy with me. All I'm saying is, come on, Doug. You've been in the Bears uniform now twice and you're still behind on the depth chart. Let's go. Yeah, exactly. Doug. Let's go. Geez. If you're any good, we have to worry about that position for five years. Kelsey, right there, Jason Kelsey up doing TVs on our monitor right now. He was one of the lidspins to why that team has been so good for so many years. When they ran the push push, everyone in Philly said, because that guy's the single best center in football. He knows how to do it. Okay. He was making $15 million a year. You get what you pay for. Still the tone we'll hear from Matt. He reflues the head coach for the Bears as we get ready for the Bears and Titans. Our coverage starts at 7 a.m. on Sunday right here on the home of the Bears ESPN 1000. Let's go to the phone lines and talk to you. Tony is on the South Side. He's with us on Cap and Jhood. Hey, Tony. Tony, what's up, man? Tony, radio down, Tony. Hey, what's going on? What's up? Oh, nothing. I just wanted to reiterate the fact that I do think the Bears is going to win. And I think we're going to win more than nine games. Hey, that's that. That's not giving us a number. He said more than nine. So what is that? That means 10, 10 or more. Okay. I mean, that's what normally more than nine means. No, they actually, if you're going to give more than nine, it would be either 10 or 11. You actually give a firm number. Yeah, pick a number. Okay. Okay. More than nine means 10. Okay. I think we can actually win 11, but again. So which is it? Is it 10 or 11, Tony? I'm going to go 11 now. I'm going to go 11. That's a good number. I say that's how confident I feel about this car. So what about 12 wins 12? You know what? It was like, you know, I was, you guys were talking about Patrick Mahomes, and I was saying to myself, you know, Patrick Mahomes at the time of learning. If he comes in and do something similar at the time of coming in starting, I think he can do 12. 12. I guarantee you, if he comes in and, you know, God is going to have a blessing with a little luck and, you know, sticking with the scheme and the scheme actually working and then they don't call these. You know, I know you've seen some of the, um, but who calls up players that they used last year. Yeah. You know what? You know, because of the soft schedule early, I would say maybe 13. Would you have about 13 wins for the Bears, Tony? What do you think? Well, you know what? And you said soft schedule and you ain't also heard you say earlier about you haven't seen a schedule of this, of this difference. And I thought they'd be at that on purpose. So we can see how we compare outside the league and then we go to the black and blue division and we, and, you know, that's when we have to start showing up. So 13, that sounds good, right? Good round number 13. Yeah, I'm, you know, I'm, I'm going to say 12. I wouldn't bet on 13, but I'm going to say 12. I almost had him, Kath. I thought you were going to get him to 17. Again, I could not be more excited. Cap, Cap, he called in with 10. We got him. He called in with a little flipping. It's more than nine means 10. Okay, we'll pick a number. Okay, 10. And then, okay, 11. All right, I'll go to 12. 13 is going to be tough. I thought you were going to get him to 17. I couldn't get him there. You wouldn't do 13. Oh my God. Okay, I'm going to read you something. I try a Jack, but I think 13 was unlucky for me. I got a tweet from Chris Nardi. All right, listen, every day. You guys are bringing negative energy that Caleb's going to get hurt. Caleb's going to get smashed in his first game. Jesus. What negative energy? I just told you screaming from the mountaintops that I've never been more excited for an opener. That's our kid. That's our guy out there. Let's go. No, first of all, first of all, no one said that. Here's the one thing I always give a little bit advice for our listeners. If you're going to listen to the show, turn it on and actually listen to it. Right, like Chris, if you have negative energy, you're the one channeling it. You're the one bringing it. Just put your heart on the freaking table. Get yourself some good vittles. Get ready for the game on Sunday. And let's freakin' go. Man up. No one said anything. We're talking about positivity with the Chicago Bears. 100%. We're talking about the good and the questionable about the team. But again, you hear what you want to hear. Just keep listening. Try to listen. Since you have the show on, just turn on and listen. Chris, you're better than that. Tell them, Tony, in that right? Yeah, yeah. All right, we go back to the phone line to talk to you. 3-1-2-3-3-2-ESP is our phone number. Brooklyn, New York, listening on the ESPN Chicago. Up here's Derek on Captain J. Hood. Derek, good morning. Hey, Cap, hoodie, good morning. How are you, man? I'm doing great, family. I'm doing great. Just wanted to chime in real quick. Listen, Cap. Cap, hoodie, man, I want to say something, man. You, you absolutely correct. These listeners, they don't listen. You know, they don't, they hear you speak, but they don't listen. Yeah. So, I mean, so, but let me say this real quick. I think the bears are gone. This is just my pain. I think the bears are going to win 27-13. That's just me. Sure. And here's the thing about Caleb. I'm just a quick comparison between him and Justin. When, with the whole training campaign the couple of years, Justin was there, we always will get negative reports. With the Caleb situation, we always just heard about him getting better. The only knock as far as, you know, coaching is that he has to make sure he gets the ball out in two point, whatever seconds. You're point 75, Max Brady says. Correct. And I'm sure he's working very hard on that. He's being very diligent. He's a very hard worker. So comparing Caleb's football IQ to Justin's football IQ IQ is night and day. His is much better, but there will be mistakes made. And in my last little thing, it's a kind of an off topic real quick. Yeah. I wanted you to comment on what you think about Jalen Johnson. His comfort being more motivated because of the situation with Patrick Sertain getting a bigger deal than him. So I just want to hang up and listen and see what your common is as far as like, do you feel he will be more aggressive as far as his play because of the fact that somebody else signed in his position as making more? Listen, love you guys. Go Bears. Let's go win Sunday, baby. Peace out. I'm not. All right, Derek. We appreciate your cell phone call. I love that guy's passion. Jalen Johnson's motivated by anything that's negative against him. It is what we talked about before about young players, cap, social media, feeling slighted. I mean, from an ESPN 100 list and him not being on the list, he's slighted by that. And he should be. Yeah. I mean, so whatever it takes, right, Sertain or what we're talking about here within the NFL 100 list, he's always thinking like, no one's thinking about me, no one's thinking about the Bears, whatever it takes. Let me ask you a question. If they came out today with a list of the top 10 morning shows and we weren't on it. Dude, I'd be again. Everyone knew that stuff should just roll off your back. Who cares? Guess what? That wouldn't motivate me. Sure. I'm motivated every day, every single day. But that would motivate me. There's no question. However, that NPR show, pretty good in the morning. Pretty solid. Pretty solid. Yeah. It's very wispery. By the way, nice job by the mix going 0 and 6 in this volleyball tournament last night. They had a team, the mix. Yeah. Good luck to you, mix 0 and 6 out first round. God. Seacrest. Horrible and volleyball. Horrible. 3, 1, 2, 3, 3, 2, ESPN, 3, 3, 2, 3, 7, 7, 6 is our phone number. Hey, Shane, hey, said you weren't in the top 250 morning show producers in Chicago. Wouldn't you be bummed? Jesus, man, I'm top 250. I'd be lucky if I made it to the next day. Here's Shay Norley. Good morning, boys. How we feeling? NFL football back. A stellar game. Chiefs Ravens last night came down to the wire. Literally a toenail was the difference. Kevin Durant was playing tight end. Remember that he had the three? Did he have the three? It was him, right? Yeah, against Milwaukee. Yeah, just the toe. Out. Stellar finish. Eh, game. Stellar finish. What do you mean, eh, game? Man, it was not a well played game. You could ask, you could thank the officials for that. It was not a great game. Wildly entertaining though. No, it's just, it's wildly entertaining because it's football. Football's back. That's the only reason why. It was, there's going to be much better played games than that one. And one of the reasons why is because the, it's just like anything else. The first day of Major League Baseball, that first week, everything is just over officiated. Same thing here in the NFL. First game, big spotlight, young hockey leagues out there. He's calling everything. That's what it is. So, no, it was not, it was not a great football game. Great finish. It's good to see football out there, but we're going to see much better games than that one. I thought it was, for me, and I thought it was wildly entertaining. Well played? No, there was some choppiness to it. Wildly entertaining. Well, football on the surface is entertaining. The, the, the aesthetics of the game was not entertaining. For me, it was. Yeah. I'm just telling you my perspective. Yeah, I liked it. I, I had enjoyed it. Oh, man. Yeah. Rama. Yeah. I'm watching two elite Hall of Fame quarterbacks. Tell me about those plays. What'd you like most? I, watching Lamar run the football. That dude, he continues to impress me. The throw that he made down at the end on the right sideline was just special. Like even the Mahomes play where he caught his own pass. Wildly entertaining. Two African-American quarterbacks starting against each other in the Super Bowl for the first time fittingly. February 12th is Abe Lincoln's birthday. Here we go with the highlights. Here's Shane Orland. Uh, yeah. Actually start with something from last night's game. Hoodie, you brought it up. The officiating seven illegal formation penalties against the Ravens because the offensive line was called on quote unquote lined up in the backfield. They kept going to Toreko and Collinsworth on the replay drawing the line across the offensive line. And everybody's kind of like, I don't really see it. I think they got Rashad Bateman on one at the end and they put up the freeze frame. Everybody's doing the same thing. I don't see it. Sean or no shot. Enough already with the illegal formation penalties. Do not make this a thing. You know what? It's a shot. You don't want to have it. But here's the thing. When we get to week six, this will not be an issue. It's just the spotlight is on the NFL and that officiating crew yesterday. It's the only game that's on. So they want to make sure everything was called by the letter of the law. It's just like Major League Baseball, how everything is called by the letter of the law. You know, this is a baseball fan in April. We've never seen that call or we haven't seen a call in years. That same call won't be there in May. Right. That guy slid over the base at second. He came close. We're going to enforce that early. Set a tone. It was choppy at best. And actually what it told me this game yesterday told me about the lack of actual practice and game time for the players. They were exhausted out there. It was their first game and also the sloppiness is what happens. Like, oh, you're a veteran starter. You don't need to be out there. Ah, it's no problem because when the bell rings, you'll be ready. Some of them were not because these guys are, it's not saying that they're working hard in the off season, not working hard in practice. But again, practice and an actual game are two different things. This is why the old timers that we talked to in a regular basis that played in the 90s and 80s say we played a ton of preseason games and we're out there doing two and three days to get ready to be game ready. A lot of that was not game ready yesterday. Yeah. NFL PA has so many rules on when you can hit and how much you can't really start working on tackling on a regular basis. Diffus teams? Two days and full pads, man, for a long time. Doesn't make it right. That's the way it was done. Here's Shane Norley. Alright, Bill Belichick talked on Inside the NFL about Caleb Williams, what he saw in the preseason. He was a little bit critical. Take a listen. Whoever they played against in preseason. It wasn't the best players on the other team. So what you're saying is, Coach, we can't plan a parade because Caleb was so accurate in the preseason. Well, it wasn't accurate. It's 10 for 20. It's like you didn't watch the 20 throw. Hey, come on. There's a reason he's excited. It's 20 throws, Chas. He buzzed the room. You've got to think how good the 10 were that were completed. Yeah, they extended the play. They weren't that good. There was a couple highlight plays. They weren't that good. Hey, no one's saying he might not be great. But what we're saying is, it's just you need the context. It's like when I hear somebody's lighting it up in camp, I'm like, is he running with the twos? Is he going against the two defenses? Is the quarterback struggling because he's got the two offensive line? There's just a lot we don't know. So there you go, Belichick. Very critical of Caleb Williams preseason play. It doesn't count. I think there were four drops by wide receivers. Would have made it 14-20 instead of 10-20. Anyway, I digress. I'll whiteboard the end of Bill Belichick's career before he got fired. He picked Mac Jones. And then last year, traded up in the draft for a kicker who cut scene got cut this off season. Maybe we don't need to listen to Bill Belichick about personnel and player evaluation at this stage anymore. Shot or no shot. Belichick criticizing Caleb Williams doesn't mean anything to you. That's a shot. Let me just say this. That dude's a fraud. He's a phony. I'm not telling you he's not a good football coach. That dude is a phony. Ooh, I don't want to do media. I'm a jerk at press conferences. Coach, I'd like to ask you about the Amanda Cincinnati. Some people in there trying to do their jobs. Young reporters terrified that he's going to embarrass them. Oh, I got fired? Nobody wants my 72-year-old ass coaching their football team. Give me all the media jobs I can take. You, sir, are a phony. Again, not denigrating his ability as a football coach. He won six Super Bowls because he was gifted the goat. But guess what? The fact the way you treated people in the media and now you run to take all the jobs, you're a clown. Thank you. Well, I'll say this. Big name, probably wrong messenger in that situation because, guess what? Because he was coaching Tom Brady, Cap. None of the quarterbacks will be good enough. Maybe a few, but not a lot. To be able to undercut Caleb Williams at this point. I mean, those are just pre-season games. And you're talking about certain throws. You're going to cast aspersions on a young player already. Yeah, I think that that might, again, big name, probably wrong messenger in that spot. He saw the goat. Nothing's going to be better than the goat for him. How much do you think he's really watched Caleb Williams this year? I would bet not as much as we have. That's a, B, four passes dropped like right DJ Moore's hands, one in Cole's hands. Guess what? You catch those four? His completion percentage is 70. What are you going to do then? Genya Fleck in front of Caleb? Dude, stop. I mean, again, you're going to have him in there. He's going to make these big bold opinions. But again, you are at the top of the heap with coaching and Super Bowl championships in Tom Brady. Nothing will ever be good enough for Bill Belichick. Good point. Fair. And this is why you never had Michael Jordan behind in a booth. That's why. Could you imagine him doing commentary? Nothing would be good enough for Michael. Right. I mean, Magic Johnson did it. You know, Isaiah Thomas has done it. That's fine. The goat would never have a Lavalier mic strapped to his lapel breaking down basketball. He wouldn't be on inside the NBA on TNT. Michael Jordan, all of it would suck to him. All of it. Unless he's out there. Right. So certain guys probably shouldn't be in that job. But Bill, it is amazing the way you treated Mike Reese and all of these other broadcasters and analysts and writers in the New England area with two and three words, barely a sentence, burping out stuff into your microphone. But yeah, you know, I got these big bold opinions. It is amazing, isn't it? Yeah, it's him. Just stretching. Try and get relevance. Way Dion's dealing with the media now. Ridiculous. So when they fire you at Colorado and nobody wants you to coach their team, they don't need your brand identity. You'll run to the media. Popovich. Sterling Sharp, you brought up earlier. Bob Knight, rest in peace. Nick Saban at times. His last couple of years, he mellowed. He was getting older and I actually think he's very good at what he does. But come on, man. We all, all these guys. I have no use for the media. Oh, I need a job. How much ESPN? Let's go. Amazing, isn't it? It's a joke. It's how it works. Shay. All right. Dan Pompey is the athletic. Talk to some NFL scouts and asked them about Caleb Williams, what they think of him. Two scouts brought up the same pro player comp when talking about Caleb Williams. Russell Wilson. I know Wilson now is the butt of the joke. Will he keep the job against Justin Fields, the disaster that was Denver, is off the field antics. But he is also a nine time pro bowler, super bowl champion, one time all pro, shot or no shot. If Caleb Williams has Russell Wilson's career, that would be good enough for you. Caleb Williams has Russell. That's like Seattle. Just think of Seattle, Russ. Yeah, not Denver. Not this guy. Nine time pro bowler, super bowl champ. He only wins one. Well, you know Russell Wilson's career. Yeah. He won one, right? Yep. He went to two. He should have had the second and the play call was horrific. That is a shot. You want better than that. But you like better than that, but that is a shot. I mean, look at the resume. He's going the Hall of Fame. He is. I will, if Caleb only wins one super ball in the next, he said, I want to play 20 seasons. Remember he said that? He did. He said I want to play 20. I want to be in my mid 40s still playing football. If we only win one, like, ask fans of the Packers. You only won one with Aaron Rodgers and one with Favre. They're disappointed. Correct. Now, again, we haven't won once it's 85. I hope I'm still alive when Caleb Williams is retiring. I'll be disappointed if we only win one. I want to be like the Chiefs. Oh, I'm sure everyone would like to be like the Chiefs. But again, this is a generational one of one that is Patrick Mahomes. Hopefully, we'll say about Caleb, by the way. He's one of one. I've agreed. If that's all I've got, Shay, then that's a shot. Because I went to two. I won one. And, you know, my hope is I can win more than one. But if that's the resume, and that means that the Bears are always in the playoffs, they're always in the mix. They're winning division championships. Right. So if that's the, if that's what I get, that's a shot. It's not bad, but I love more. I think, yeah, of course, everybody wants more. I think I was just here on this the other day. I think it's three quarterbacks in the NFL right now that have a Super Bowl championship. That's it. Yeah. So the idea that you just are going to run into more than one of them. Getting one is incredibly difficult. If he gets one, I think everybody would be happy. Let me ask you a question. If I told you he had Lamar's career, two-time MVP. Surefire Hall of Famer. Would you be happy? No shot. Lamar is, according to my friend Nick Wright, four and 12 now versus Mahomes, the Steelers, and in the playoffs with a 75 quarterback rating. His rival, the best team, and a playoff, any playoff game. He's 54 and 12 with a 102 rating against everyone else. That's a no shot. But he has never, ever played in a Super Bowl. He's Patrick Ewing in the Jordan comparison. That's a great cop. Just what he is. Like, good. Like, excellent. Ewing's a Hall of Famer first ballot. Great town. Never got that. Ewing, Barkley, Gary Payton. Like, that's what that is. One final against the Rocket. Wasn't it the new against the Rockets? Ninety-jane. He was in the Bronco. Ninety-four. So. That's what it is. That's what I talked about earlier this week, Cap. Some guys are just good to be in the mix. They'll never win the championship. Good. Hall of Famer career. But just can't get past the upper Echelon. And their Echelon is Kansas City. There you go. And the Holmes. There you go. I'm never betting against them again. Never again. Until they start losing, right? All right. Coming up. The picks. And Courtney Cronin with the latest on the Bears at 835 on Cap and Jay Hood. This is Kevin Byer. You're listening to Cap and Jay Hood on the new home of the Chicago Bears. PSB and Chicago. That hopes it's time for the picks. Right here. On W.M. V.P. A.M. 1000. Ha ha. Hey, football's back, kids. I'd remind you that we're going to be with you until 10 o'clock. Then my green burger 10. Followed by Carmen and Yurco. With their football feasts from Buffalo Wild Wings in Shorewood. Two thirty to five thirty. Waddling Sylvie. Then White Sox baseball against the Red Sox at five thirty right here. On a ESPN 1000. Time for the picks. Here's Shane Arlin. All right. We've got three college games on the slate. We will start with Fox. Big noon kickoff. Gus Johnson. Joel Clapp. Really excited to call this one. They may both not even need a blue chew to be feeling good in the booth in Ann Arbor. Michigan hosting Texas, Texas is seven and a half point favorite. We go to Jonathan Hood. I'm with my quarterback. Ha ha. Thank you Gus. The Wolverines were just up 16 to 10 the fourth quarter before new story and quarter back. Davis Warren finally put together a strong drive. The offensive line for Michay is a big concern for the Wolverines. The defense was as advertised. They're pretty strong. I like Michigan plus seven and a half in this game. Mike. I find Texas goes into the big house and no Connor stallions. No JJ McCarthy or Blake quorum. It's an ass whipping. Texas wins this twenty seven seventeen and covered. Shane is twenty seven seventeen and ass whipping. Yeah. They're going to physically manhandle him. That's what part of an ass whipping is. I ain't nobody. I don't care who you are deserves to lay more than a touchdown going that far north to hostile territory. I know it's not the same team, but they are the defending champions. I think this number is insane. I will take Michigan getting seven and a half and hope I lose. If Texas murders them, I'm happy to pay to see it. Texas wins by seven. Jack. So I am in for J. Morse, why have J. Morse picks and J. Morse is taking Texas. I would have taken Michigan. I disagree. The Longhorns held Colorado State Cup. I mean I would. I understand. We're going to the big house defending national champions. What are we doing? It's seven and a half points. All right. You and our program for that AI. You're supposed to just give J. Morse picks. Just hit J. Moore with a sled champ. Wrong pick. The Longhorns held Colorado State to just hundred ninety two yards a week one cap. I mean they are led by Johade Beren. He's very good. I just think Michigan will keep it closer. Seven and a half. Like Michigan. Next game. Tennessee laying nine and a half points on the road against NC State. People high on the wolf pack this year. Jonathan Hood. Hold my nose and take Tennessee. He gives me the quarterback for Tennessee. Nico Ayama-Leva is the quarterback. He's going to be discussed a lot in this game. He's got Andrew Luck vibes to him. He's supposed to be really good even though I can't stand Tennessee. Give me Tennessee minus eight and a half against NC State. My friend Anthony goes to Tennessee. Anthony's all in on Rocky top. Give me Tennessee thirty four to twenty. It's a very very good pick. Kaplan Tennessee on the road getting laying nine and a half points at NC State who struggled with Western Carolina last week. This Niko cat might be the best quarterback in America already. Andrew Luck vibes. I'm laying the points. Go Vols. I can't stand them. Jay Morris, Tennessee as well. What do you think Jack? I also have Tennessee. Okay. Thank you very much. Show unity. This is actually my favorite play of the weekend in college. Tennessee laying nine and a half. I think this is a massacre. You're going to hear about this quarterback a lot. Yeah. Oh yeah. Colorado at Nebraska. Late night. Nebraska lay in seven and a half. And Lincoln hoodie. Before I give my pick. Jay Moore. If you're there Jay Moore is it was his pick. Jay Moore's got Nebraska. Okay. Shane. Without. No one's ever asked you this before. Without Sanders and without Hunter. How many wins does Colorado have? One. Give me Nebraska minus set of it. That'll be all. Honestly God. No one's ever talked about it in those terms. Take those two guys off the team. How many wins they have? One. Maybe maybe two. Maybe one. Yep. That's it. So Nebraska minus seven and a half. Yep. Dion. You're going to get a whole play to come up in this year. You're getting your head kicked in in this game. Give me the Huskers. Lincoln at night. It's one of the most impossible places to play in all of America. I've seen many a top ranked team walk in and get beat by a bat in Nebraska. This is a good Nebraska and a bat Colorado. Give me the Huskers. So this is not the Huskers. It turned up all over three of his first six possessions to spot Colorado the 13th. Nothing lead. It's not that Nebraska for last year. Right? Last year Jeff Sims. Are you kidding me? We had Gus Johnson. Most polite middle America man ever openly calling Jeff Sims trash on the podcast. Dylan Riolis a different deal. They're miles better than they were last year. They were able to recoup Nebraska as a much better football team. All right. Shay, what's next? We go to the National Football League starting tonight exclusively on Peacock from Sao Paulo, Brazil. Eagles lay in two and a half taken on the Packers. So give me the Packers plus two and a half. Cap? They could be playing the Helen Keller school for the visually impaired. I'll never take the Packers. Give me the Eagles. I hate both of these teams. I'm kind of down on both of them with the preseason future stuff. That said, I have to pick one and I hate the pack. Fly Eagles fly. Lay the two. Let's go. Jay Moore has taken the Eagles as well. I want to take in the Packers. Oh my God. Who's in this guy? I think it's a toss up game. And if you're giving me two and a half with the Packers, I'll take the Packers. I'll take the pack neutral side to the chest on all the Jay Moore's pick is the best. I love AI Jack putting his picks in. No one asked AI to jump in. No one asked him. But I like it. Vikings lay in a point and a half with Sammy Darnold on the road in the metallands taking on the New York football Giants. Okay. Okay. I like the Giants plus one and a half. Okay. Vikings will be stumbling all throughout the year. If you believe in Sam Darnold going back to the metallands, you're crazy. You got to be crazy. Okay. All right. All right. Giants plus one and a half in this game. Metallands. Big spot. Go ahead. Mike. Thanks. Appreciate that. I am all in with Shay that the Giants will be vastly improved, not telling me like Shay, they're going to win the division, but vastly improved. They're going to be on Thibodeau and Brian Burns and Dexter Lawrence up front. Those are animals. They come to eat. Give me the Giants, one of my best plays of the weekend. Shay. Yeah. I mean, it's going to be Sam Darnold against that pass rush with, it is Hawkins and still hurt. Jordan Addison might not go like that. It's just, there's too much going on with the Vikings. I'll play the point and a half with the Giants and also tell you they're going to win the game. Straight. All right. Right. Giants win. Yep. You too, Jack, right? I do have the Giants. Oh, about that. Daniel Jones. Come back here. I'm feeling it. There we go. That's a guy who's picking my leg. All right. Well, that's out of line. My wife drafted him in fantasy. He's a good fantasy quarterback. He runs a lot. He's horrible. He's horrible. He's not very good. Okay. One playoff game. Okay. The music ends. There's no more music. Okay. Okay. Now we're back. Okay. All right. The picks right here on cap and Jane Hood. Go ahead. Shane Lawling. You know, I had just scraped the bottom of the barrel a little bit. Week one of the picks Panthers in New Orleans Saints lay in three and half at the Superdome hoodie. I know you guys are taking the pan. I'm just taking the Saints. This minus three and a half. It's a bit. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. See NFL. I'll just take the Saints. I think the Saints are a tire fire. I am a big, big fan of Dave Kanellis, the new head coach of the Carolina Panthers came from Tampa where Baker Mayfield said this dude is special constructing offense working with quarterbacks. Give me the panther, one of my other good plays this weekend. Let's go down to the sidelines and Dave Kanellis, Dave. That's Lou Kanellis spelled differently. Thanks. First down for the Chicago Bears. I just helicoptered in from New York last night for a sound in 10. What? Sam Rose. Wow. Here's the Miller with his halftime report, Jim. Who is by the way calling our game on Sunday? Adam. Amin? Yeah. Awesome. I think it's a mean in Sanchez. Nice. Fingers. Let's go. Former Bears quarterback Mark Sanchez. That's it. Shake. What's up Panthers? St. Stink. Dennis Allen's going to get fired by week 10. He's dead. Give me the Panthers to just go in there and honestly win the game. Jack. James Moore's got the Panthers as well as Soto. I want a chord Sunday night football Rams at Lions, maybe a little less hostile environment for Matthew Stafford this time around. Maybe a little more. We'll wait and see. Hoodie. Rams and Lions. Lions lay in three and a half, by the way. I like the Lions minus three and a half. Just looking at my leg. I like the Lions to be able to win that game. Again, they'll pick up where they left off last year cap. I think they can get it done within a touchdown. Yeah. I like the lion in this game to win the football game. Something like 33 29, like 4.5 point game. It'll be in the balance late, but they will cover like the chief did last night. Give me the Lions. Yeah. Last year in the playoff game, Kelly Stafford went to the media to complain that fans were booing at her and her kids and not just keeping the hostilities to her husband. She basically called Detroit classless. I think Detroit's going to remember that. Have fun in there, Matthew. Lions lay in three and a half. Jay Moore's got the Lions as well and you and me, I'm tempted to take the right. I think the Lions win this game, but three and a half, I think it's going to be really close. I'll still take the Lions though. That's fair. Jay jets at Niners Monday night football jets getting four and a half caps. I don't know what to call them. Love child Aaron Rodgers and I love child just just lover, straight up lover spoon partner. I would say that it is the jets will take care of things. Jets plus four and a half. I'm very confident in that one. I believe they are Rogers will light up the San Francisco Bay Area sky. Okay. Bang back in California. Feeling comfortable. Spry. Young. It'll happen. Jets plus four and a half. Go ahead. I am also on the jets and they win the football game outright. Aaron goes back to work and shows everybody he's back doing it. I will be Aaron. Let's go. I do not like the jets outright, but I also do not like laying four and a half points with the Niners after their off season was a mess. Yeah. J E T S jets jets jets Jack, Jay Moore's got the Niners and I got the Niners too. I mean, everybody's playing in this game. I was ready to go. I'm ready to go. Take the Niners. Shane Norlin, Texans, CJ, Stroud on the road lay in two and a half and Indianapolis taken on the Colts hoodie Texans pick up where they left off a close ball game, but I like the Texans minus two and a half. Mike Vanderjag from 48 yards to win it. Give me the cult. I think that's an a late field goal. I think that's the kicker. Go ahead. Go ahead. I don't think it's scary. The closing minute. Oh, God. Correct. Whoever their kicker is late field goal Colts win the football game. Yeah. Look, I think both of these teams are playoff caliber. I like them both a lot and you're giving me a divisional dog at home. I'm going to take it. Colts. Jay Moore's got the Texans. I have the Texans too. Anthony Richardson height, I think, is a little bit off the charts for what we've actually seen from him. That is correct. That's correct. And that will be proven right about that. Great athlete, subpar quarterback in his career. I like to be wrong about that. I don't think I will be. And then we've got the lid lifter, Shay. The final game on the slate right here Sunday afternoon soldier field bears lay in four and a half, hosting the Tennessee Titans hoodie. I like the bear. The bear will win this game outright. I like the bears minus four and a half. David Capitol bears win the football game. They cover the four and a half. It's my top play this weekend. Best bet. The Chicago Sun times contest with the posse and Sylvie. Give me the bear. I locked this one in when the schedule came out. I like the bears. I like them to win the game. I love what they did all off season. I think they can make the playoffs. I will never, ever, ever, ever lay nearly five points with a rookie quarterback in week one when he's going up against maybe the best corner and football on the other side of the field. Titans to cover the spread bears to win. Jack, Jay Moore's got the bears. I've got the bears. All right. And those are the picks right here on cap and Jhood coming up next we hear from Courtney Cronin with the latest on the bears we get ready to take on the Titans. Don't forget coverage starts at seven a.m. on Sunday morning right here on the home of the bears ESPN 1000.
