I'm sick mate, one, six, land here, suppression on target. That's why I see him in my shot, or no shot, with Captain Jehood on ESPN 1000 and ESPN Chicago. That's why I see him in my shot. Good morning and welcome in to the Captain Jehood Morning Show on ESPN 1000. What did I say wrong? Nothing. You're unbelievable. Good morning and welcome in to the Captain Jehood Morning Show on ESPN 1000. And we are streaming on the ESPN Chicago app with David Kaplan, Jonathan Hood with you. That time for a shot of no shot. Here's Shane Orling, Shane. Good morning, boys, on a Wednesday, Waddle Wednesday, Waddle joining us shortly, also the debut of Snorling's Power Rankings coming up. But first we got to get to shot or no shot, how are we feeling? His debuts coming up, yeah, we've got the debut looking forward to it. You see, it's always a good day. We talked to Tom Waddle. What about Shay's Power Rankings? What about that? They're fine. The Waddle Wednesday is the best. Shay, I don't know if you're not cooperating these things, someone's going to take them and then you can't use these things anymore. You have all these different little segments here, these little nooks and crannies on the show. If you don't have it seed or TM'd, then that's not good. And listen, if somebody wants to steal Snorling, that's up to them. Have fun. I'm the original, everybody knows. Thank you, Cap. You got it. So, Cap, we're going to put our money together and we're going to copyright this stuff and that way he can't use this anymore, don't we, box them out the show? Sorry, that segment's not allowed. He just completely bots him out. Might as well copyright shot or no shot while we're at it, too. Find a good partner? Might have already done that. Oh, heavily. Get t-shirts? Working out. Okay. All right, that's good. Good to know. All right. Shatter no shot with Shae Norling, Shae. All right, this morning on The Morning Show on Sportsman Like, there was a massive betrayal from Michelle Smallman. So as you guys know, I am a girl from Illinois and I went to the University of Illinois. A lot of orange and blue in my closet and I've always been jealous of my friends who were bearish fans because they have the monsters of the Midway, like you said of, and tough right there on the water in Chicago. They have a perfect identity and you guys know how important home is to me, which is why I'm giving my final rose to wait a minute. I don't live there anymore. I don't live in Illinois anymore. CC, give it to the Green Bay Packers. Yeah, go back, go. Shatter no shot. Michelle Smallman is re-band from the Captain Jay Hood Morning Show. That's a shot. She's done. Out. Out. Done. You're from the state of Illinois. You went to the University of Illinois and you're picking that Green Bay Packers club. Yeah. Bye-bye. See you later. Out. Evan, your band has been lifted. You're back. Yes, Evan's back. Yes. And Chris Canty's always been always always been part of the program. Always. Smallman. Dead to me. Oh my God, Cap. That's strong. That's strong, Cap. Now, Michelle, Michelle Smallman is my friend and we have known her for a decade, Cap. I just didn't know that she was going to have a complete heel turn that took place this morning because it came down to three, came down to and again, for those that don't know, Michelle Smallman, long time Rams fan, of course, the Rams down in Los Angeles. Her team was snatched away from her and so she was looking for a team because the Rams are in LA and she had the Jets, the Packers and the Bears to choose. Three final roses. She got rid of the Jets early and rightfully so, okay, the Jets. The terrible Aaron Rodgers, horrible. And so now it came down to the Packers and the Bears and she chose the Packers. That's amazing to me. Done. Out. This loyal forgot where she came from. Wish her all the best in her career. Out. What I would say to Michelle Smallman is this, is that you're always going to be the homie. You know, I'm always going to be friends, but when it comes to football season, you'd choose in the Packers or the Bears. That is a line that you crossed that is hard to deal with one. But number two, you chose a team that's not going to be talked about much on your own show. Correct. So the idea is you chose the Packers to be a fan of. You won't have much Packers conversation on that show because that show is going to talk about the Dallas Cowboys a lot and the Tennessee Titans offensive line. So if you think that you chose the Packers because there's going to be like these sections of Packers conversation on your show, that won't be happening. That's the way unsports me like that's why ESPN radio works. You think there's going to be like these swaths of hours dedicated to the Green Bay Packers? No, they're going to be talking about the Chicago Bears. Very disappointed in Michelle. But right? They're going to be talking about some of the other teams, but definitely the Bears because we have the number one pick. That's correct. That's the best city five star restaurants, the best city in the Midwest. And she chose Green Bay, Wisconsin. There you have it. She chose the Lindburger over a quality stake. That's what she did. Correct. Enjoy the fish fries up at Green Bay at the VFW Hall. Have a great time. And when we're winning, you're going to be watching a party you aren't invited to. Here Shane Orla. Very disappointed in her. Send that right over to the unsportsman line. Yep. The email's on its way already. Matt, send it over. Jeremy Fowler talked to executives around the league about who will win offensive rookie of the year. Responses were split evenly between Caleb Williams and Jaden Daniels. But where it gets interesting is the reasoning executives were giving for Caleb to win the award. Nobody talked about his ability. Nobody talked about his talent. Everybody talked about his supporting cast. And there was a quote about the sentimental vote. He will receive just because he's good specifically in Chicago shot or no shot. This should be bulletin board material for Caleb Williams. Yeah, it's a no shot because it's Caleb. Look, bulletin for material is all through his phone. Check his phone. You've got all the haters bookmarked on his phone, as you know, he said, I saved that stuff for motivation. That's whatever. I don't think he needs it. I think he's got way bigger fish to fry and he is locked in on an NFL quarterback now. We get started on Sunday. He doesn't need that stuff. Some people operate that way, Cap. When we learned about Caleb Williams and him saying that he booked Mark a lot of hate that he gets on social media, that kind of thing. Some people need that for fuel. And for him, that would just be another thing that he just locks in like, all right, Jane Daniels. Okay. Good luck. And he uses that for fuel to motivate himself to be the best quarterback he could be. So whatever we found out, Michael Jordan, when he went to the Hall of Fame, 15 years prior stuff was still in his mind. Remember? Yes. Wow. That little slight from Le Brantford Smith, which may not even have been true, that motivated you. Yeah. What the great ones need, I guess some people just need that fuel, that negative fuel. That's correct to be able to get to where they want to be. All right. Jay, what else? All right. Last night, Hard Knocks, the process behind keeping Vailus Jones got some serious airtime. Listen to these coaches, just gush over Vailus Jones. In terms of Vailus with you, what do you do for us? He's playing on the proper turn on the inter, in the corridor and outside, he can play the one. He don't kick off. He play anywhere. I'll kick off. And then he just be, depending on how hard corner health is, he'd be the first gunner in. So he'd be in a, I mean, hell, we might roll those gunners in the game. Honestly, his speed, he looked way better at gunner than he did last year right now. And then obviously, if you want the other one. He was alive. He had a great camp, I mean, he changed positions. You know, he comes out and he runs hard, like said, he offered that I would, he would dip the pile forward, but he could also take it to the house. This guy's a potential game changer. Potential game changer hoodie. He's alive. They also received a trade offer. And polls admitted it was great value on paper for Vailus Jones, but not the right time for the bears. He wouldn't take less than a fourth round pick shot or no shot. Ryan polls would only have moved Vailus Jones for a third round pick. Yeah. That's a shot. That's a shot. That's a shot. And for a guy who has not proven it yet at the NFL level going into year three, that would be a big price to pay. And he's like, no, not doing it because they believe in this kid. They really, really do. You know what this is? Cap, I'll tell you what this is. Cause we lived it. I'm not saying that Vailus Jones is this, what I'm telling you is, is that this is the conundrum that the bears had with Devin Hester, correct? Because coming in, is he a secondary player? Is he a wide receiver? Neither. Put him in special teams. Oh, he's got the vision to be able to take it to the house. Okay. Now we find a place for him because the bears, as you remember, Devin would line up and that Muscha Muhammad on that team. Yep. Was that him? Yep. No, Devin, it's over here. Yeah. Okay. Move him. He had to set him up cause he didn't know how to. He didn't know how to play. He didn't know how to line up. Correct. He took him by the shoulder pads in the middle of the game with the time running down. Like, no, this is the slot you got to be at. Oh, okay. Thank you. I mean, on the fly, he's learning how to be a wide receiver. I'm not saying that's who Vailus Jones is. But this is one of those things where the speeds too good, we can't cut him. And if someone wanted for a second or third round pick, okay, good. But as you can hear from Ryan Polls, that offer was down the table. We liked the things that he could do. They found improvements from one year to the next. Okay. They just could not turn down that speed. And at that last preseason game we saw the way he turned the corner, pretty damn good. I don't care who it is against. He flourished in that game. Well, the one who went around the left side got to the corner of the end, so like a five to six yard run for a touchdown and the one for 39 yards. I mean, those two moves were like, whoa. Now again, you got the Andre Swift, the Khalil Herbert and Rochon Johnson. But this dude had there. There's a chance that he could be a player in multiple uses where Matt tiny's cordero patterns. And that guy's been a pro bowler. That's correct. But he could be a poor man's version and develop. That's why they're keeping. All I'm telling you, Cap is I'm telling you now before the first season, first game starts. It's a scarlet letter on his chest when he comes out in the field. Oh, bales, okay. Now watch it. Now watch him because teams will know he's going to get the ball as a running back. It's going to be a short toss and he's going to run with the football. They just have to stop him. And and from Bales Jones standpoint, when they give you the ball, you've got to be able to get that first down or the yard is just needed because when you come out there, it's going to be a special set of plays. The team's ready for you. Now what are you going to do about it? It'd be a great decoy though. Boy, they're all focused on him and make a play. Yeah. At some point, he's going to get the ball and teams have scattered the bears in exactly what's happening. Hard knocks also can be an expose on what you're going to be doing. Now a lot of it was, you know, very covered up and very edited and stuff. But that coach is going on and on about Bales Jones and things that he could do. Oh God, coach, that's enough. Cameras are rolling. Yeah. That's what she would have said. That's enough. Can we turn that? No. Cameras are on. Coach, we can put them here. We can. That's enough that Carrie Joseph, whoever that that's enough. Carrie. All right. Go ahead. That's what it's like. The best. I mean, you just kept going on and check you saw this gushing about Bales Jones. Stop giving away. Game plan. Who is it? They're running back. Coach, whoever. Chad Moore. Chad Moore. Chad Moore. That's who it was. That's enough. Chad. All right. That's enough. You know, we could put them here in the slot and we can put them over here and we can do. Coach does enough. That's it. Can you squeeze it one more? Yeah. Very quickly. Right when you thought it couldn't possibly get any worse. Yeah. You have great stuff. You can challenge over the white part of the plate a little bit more. Let your stuff just play it. You don't. You better figure out. Oh, no. Oh, my goodness. The white Sox have just gone full white Sox and Aloy Jimenez pop up ends in a collision. Miguel Vargas is down with his face in his glove. Three runs have scored the Orioles TV play by play call yesterday of Aloy Jimenez. Three run pop out three run pop out with multiple fielders colliding on what was an easy pop up. Nickness training also went viral, fired a ball about 10 feet over the catcher into the backstop. That was the worst game the white Sox have played all season. They are going to crush all of the worst of all time records in Major League Baseball. It's unbelievable. The 62 Mets the the Sox are going to be games plural worse than the 62 Mets shot or no shot. This team is worse than an NFL team going winless. Yes, that's a shot. This is the worst team I've ever seen. I mean, it is just it how it got to this. And Tony La Russa won 93 games in what 2021 like serious? How did this get this way? Oh, you know how it got this way. Yeah, don't you? I know you asked the question for radio purposes, but we know how it got this way. It got this way because of injury and ineptitude. The ineptitude part comes from the front office not being able to add on and not getting rid of the players that they needed to as I told you several years ago. Some of these popular players need to leave a couple of years ago and they stay with the ball club. So Tony La Russa was not the problem. Tony got sick and had to leave. And so from there, that's the downfall of the Chicago White Sox. When you don't spend, when you don't have cornerstones, when you're not willing just to pay for players in town, you already have, you get what you deserve. The Sox deserve this here in the home of the Sox. He has been 1,000. They deserve it. But I'm not saying they don't, but to go from 93 wins to this? Oh, yeah. Yeah. It comes at you quick, doesn't it, when you don't spend, and when you don't have much of a farm system, this is what it looks like. I mean, listen, you've got the cut that we've played at a billion times, they do in the afternoon show. Jerry Reinsdorf, I would hope next season it would be better. This was last August. Better. Better. Oh my God, it is the worst we've ever seen. And you know what, Matt, put that on the pole at ESPN 1000. I'd like for us to see how that comes back instead of being prisoner to moment. I want our audience to think about this. And Owen 16 football team versus what the White Sox are, what's worse. And I know it's a longer season with baseball, but this is painful, painful, the difference for me is Owen 16 has happened twice. What the White Sox are doing has never happened in the history of the sport that is 130 years old. Look, they both suck, I get it. But this is just so embarrassingly bad 31 and 109 this morning, folks, 31 and 109. And Jerry Reinsdorf is there with a cigar this morning cup of coffee, like nothing happened. Baseball means that much to him, right? Congratulations, Jerry. You are a World Series champion owner, but also you're going to wear the worst record in the history of Major League Baseball. And by the way, the latter is more your legacy than the World Series championship that many have forgotten. Not me as a White Sox fan, but nationally, people have forgotten, including ESPN. It's just amazing. That's just, I couldn't do it, cap. I couldn't do it. I could not be an owner of that nonsense. I couldn't either. All right. Coming up around the NFL. It's a waddle Wednesday. We'll hear from Tommy coming up at 835. Captain Jay Hood, weekday morning seven to 10. What's up? It's Jay Hood, and it's my birthday. Come celebrate with me on Saturday at Ameristar Casino in East Chicago. We'll watch college football there, and there's going to be drink specials, and I'll give you my football picks, college and pro. Join me this Saturday from two to four at Ameristar Casino. Will there be cake? Find out first time ever in my career where I've got listeners and I got family and friends that are going to be at the same place at the same time on my birthday on September seven. So I hope to see you. Let's watch college football together at Ameristar Casino in East Chicago, between two and four p.m. Shay. If you missed something, get the podcast on the ESPN Chicago app. Cap and Jay Hood are back on Chicago's home for sports, ESPN Chicago. And now it's time to go around the NFL right here on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. But with you till 10 o'clock, then my green bird comes in at 10, followed by Carmi and Yurko 12 to three, Waddland's Sylvie 230 to five into exciting White Sox baseballs and take on the Orioles. I said 5 o'clock pregame right here on the home of the mighty White Sox, ESPN 1000 around the NFL. Huh? There's exciting. Exciting. It is. Hey man, they're making history. Wrong way, but they're making history nonetheless. Every time you watch them, it's a chance to see something we've never seen. Yeah. Around the NFL, we go with the debut of Snorlings power ranking with Shane Orley. Every Wednesday during football season, my power rankings, they start now week one on the horizon one day away from Thursday kickoff and really all that's between us and five straight days of football is the rest of today. How beautiful is that just just get through today, then just get through today and we get five straight days of football cap doesn't care about that nonsense. You just want to see what's going on at baseball, pennant raises. Tell them, cap. Yeah, I watch. I'll watch more baseball than I will college football for sure, pro different story. Yeah, it's not true, folks. He'll be keeping his eyes locked in, got some parlays going on the baseball, ready to go. That's what I'm saying. I watch more baseball Saturday than I will football. Yes. All right, folks. We're ready. The power rankings are ready. All right, Shay, what do we have? That's right. Top 10 teams at number 10. The New York Jets, Aaron Rodgers, back healthy, Garrett Wilson, one of the best young receivers in all of football, a defense that has been spectacular the past two seasons. They would be higher, but I still have questions about their offensive line and the health and their running backroom. We'll chase in the AFC. How'd that sound cap? Stand out loud. My choice in the AFC, the Jets. They got a good roster, man. They got Aaron at quarterback. Yeah. The jet. Horrible. I wanted to leave him out of the top 10, but I thought it would just be hating. I want to be honest about it, at least. I think it's fair. I just think it's a bridge too far to have him that far into the AFC playoff pitcher. Well, yeah, that's absurd. I mean, Patrick Holmes is still breathing. His receiving room isn't that great. They're not going to win every year. It's just not going to happen. Not every year is going to go their way. Also put into account that Cap wants to spoon with Aaron Rodgers. Number nine, Shay. It does factor. Yes. Wow. That's actually why they're not 11 and why they're 10. Okay. They're going to bump at nine, the Philadelphia Eagles. Eagles. All right. They got to prove it to me. The roster's good enough, but I got real serious questions about their head coach, Sirianni, and his rift with the quarterback. They got to show me that they're legit. They could very easily fall out of the top 10. You know, this seems make or break for the Eagles. The same make or break by this a team that, again, perennial playoff team, they want to knock it down, get the Super Bowl again. But I feel like if they can't get it done now, then win. Well, if they don't make a deep run, I think Sirianni's gone. They've tied up money in the quarterback, and there's some concern about him. They already moved on from his son, Rhettick, I mean, Kelsey retired. Like this is, for me, the last guess that I'm getting it done. Number eight, Shay. Number eight is the Cincinnati Bengals. They would be higher, but organizationally, they are deeply flawed. They should be paying Jamal Chase right now. The fact that he is not playing for them yet is ridiculous. And if it lingers, that's very bad vibes. They're eighth for me, and they could fall out, but also move way up. But he also is under contract. Let's just be clear here. He's not a free agent sitting out there, unpaid. He is under contract, and he has to play to get the year of service time to ever get to a free agency. He will be on the field. He will be. He will be in the practice today. And I feel like the same thing with Cincinnati, Shay, I've been saying this a lot on the show. He's like, I believe in Joe Burrow. He's a beast. I believe in Joe Burrow. I know that he's the up and coming young quarterback, upper-resiline quarterback. I just want to, in the organization, support him on top of both sides of the football, where they could be a perennial playoff team for them to be seriously in the mix for the Super Bowl again. I don't know if that's the case with Cincinnati. Number seven, Shay. Sevens of the Baltimore Ravens. He talked about Last Gasp. This is kind of where I'm at with them as well. They lost Patrick Queen, star linebacker, and the last time we saw Lamar Jackson, Spagnolo gave him fits. At Thursday night, tomorrow night, Lamar's going to see Spags again show us something different, please. Well, as far as individual accomplishment cap will Lamar Jackson, we know how fantastic he is, how productive he is. What about the team? I mean, I think it's a really talented football team, and I love their coach. I think John Harbaugh is a sensational coach. They got to take the next step here. Yeah. You can win all these games. At some point, you got to make a run on the playoffs. You have to, and they haven't done that yet. Jets at 10 Eagles at nine, Bengals, Ravens, and now we're at number six, Shay. The Green Bay Packers. Okay. I hate putting them this high up, but they are so young, so talented, they paid their quarterback. I think they're doing things the right way. Matt LaFloor is incredible. By the way, just, man, sidebar, man, pro front to eight in law. Three, one, two, six, maybe with a great Howard Anken. It's time I bought. Danny brought up a great point. Smallman, the band member of the morning show on Sportsman like, he's also a Cardinals fan. So she has now become public enemy number one in this city. Enemy number one, mark this tape, send it over to their show, Evan, you're cool. Can't see you're cool. Smallman, Cardinals fan and Packers fan, two-time loser, you're out. Back to the show. Okay. That's David Kaplan's thoughts on the Packers. All right. Number five, Shay. Number five is the Buffalo Bills. They still have Josh Allen. I look, I've been harsh on McDermott. His defense basically died last year and he still schemed it to a top seven defense. So I believe in his ability to do it again with fewer pieces. This team, everybody's writing off. I'm not. Buffalo's five. Hey. Now or never. He's a really good football coach. He'd have a job in about eight-tenths of a second. That's fine. If they let him go. How about the football team he's coaching? That's a good football team, man. And Josh Allen's a hell of a football player. Now they got rid of digs. Maybe that is a loss of a talent, but it also may be the addition of better chemistry in there because Bingo, what did what did dig say? It was in a horrible headspace. I hated being there. Great. Get out. The quote was from GQ magazine this morning. Shay was last year I was in the worst mental space I've been in since I've been in the league. On trades, he says none of the teams wanted to get rid of me. Things had to shake because I just wanted them to shake. Ultimately had a problem with Josh Allen, Buffalo. And so we talked about it at Nauseam on the show during around the NFL. Something had to change. Either McDermott or there is going to be him, there's going to be Steph Bond digs or there's going to be the quarterback. Wasn't going to be the quarterback. Well, I mean, I said something had to change. Right, of course. And I think it's addition by subtraction losing digs, honestly. Well, again, we'll see. So we got number four now. Number four, I'm higher on them than most. It's Houston Texans. I really believe in what CJ Stroud did. I like that they went out and got Steph on digs, who I think is very good early in his tenure anywhere when he starts happy. The job they did to address their defensive line and add to their pass rush. This team is a bonafide Super Bowl contender. Wow. I like them. I think they're good football. Number four, I think it's way too high, way too high. I had DeMico Ryan's as a coach of the year, but maybe not as a top four team in the NFL though. Correct. But again, for them, think about it if we're doing ESPN Houston this morning. So we're Texans fans, well, we feel damn good about the team because that success came out of nowhere. But that's that. I'm not saying they're a bad team. I'm just top for I wouldn't have that high. But here's what I would say as a Texans fan, like, Hey, let's get back there again, see what happens. We ran into a bus on the playoffs. We had a good regular season. Let's get back there again. So he has met for number three, Shay also just to undercut myself, Colts getting a couple points at home against the Texans week one Colts. That's the place. Anyway, three, two, one, you admit it, you have the number four and they're going to lose to the Colts. They didn't say lose. Okay. Two points. They're probably going to lose the football game. See NFL man, Chiefs are number one with a bullet. They lost six games last year. Get going on the road in this league and the division is a tough ask for anybody. They went through all the nonsense last year and found a way, right? I'm always going to go with the Chiefs until the Chiefs are not relevant anymore. You got to know the choice is great football team. I know the choice. Yeah. Three, two, one. Three teams. They're certainly the top of the league. The 49ers, the Lions and the Chiefs. 49ers, Lions, Chiefs. Where's the bear? Just outside of the top 10, they could definitely get themselves in the mix. So that's your top 10. So right now I'm going to be putting them in there. Where would you put it? Like 14, 15? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Got to prove it. Yeah. That's all fair. Got to prove it. Great view of Snorling's power rankings. That's his top 10. The 49ers at the top, the Jets at number 10. It's a Waddle Wednesday. We talked to Tommy coming up next on the cap and Jhood Morning Show. I told you lately about ComEd. Yes. More businesses across Northern Illinois are partnering with the ComEd Energy Efficiency Program to save on energy costs. Get started with a free ComEd facility assessment to find new ways to control your bottom line. And more at ComEd.com/poweringbiz, Shane Orling. Kevin, Jhood, our back. And you know this, man. Chicago's home for sports. ESPN Chicago. Tom Waddle. Tom Waddle. Former wide receiver for the Chicago Bears. Right? Great. Amazing. 1989 All Madden team and afternoon co-host on ESPN Chicago. I think he's going to start at least eight games in the Nashville Football League next year for a team that's going to give him a chance. It's Waddle Wednesday with Tom Waddle. Listen, I got a pedigree right here in an hour. Right? I'll get back here. The wheels better be spinning. All right. I'm trying G. ESPN Chicago. Right? Right. And it's a cap and Jhood Morning Show on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. Now time to go to the Hotline. That'd be the car ex-tiring on a Hotline. Rattle, rattle, thunder, bladder, boom, boom, boom, boom. Good morning, Grandpa. How are you? Grandpa. You know what I mean? Grandpa. Yeah. Yeah. I know. Old old soul over here. Yeah. Yeah. That's before the baby cake. It's true. You're also the oldest soul that doesn't have a governor. If he goes out, he's either going out or he's going home. Now listen, I don't believe in doing anything halfway a cap. I mean, he does that. Nobody. Congratulations, Tommy. Thank you, Jonathan. Thank you. Very nice of you. What do you know? You know what I just saw too? Not to steal. Did you see Patrick Sertan just signed a contract extension? Yeah. 96 million highest paid corner in the history of this court. This is my point though, guys. Like, it's another feather in the cap for our general manager. You're two best players. Montes Sweat is, you know, is in the conversation as well. DJ Moore has a six year deal making $24 million a year. Jalen Johnson is now in my mind, he's top five in a league. He's outside the top 10 highest paid corners. Like, you locked up your guys. You made them happy and their bargains. Correct. Prices just keep going up. Yeah. Like, it's OK. That's all I wanted to say, Jonathan. I was just a little giddy because the Kool-Aid has been flowing. I told Shay I expected Dane Cook to come flying through a wall down there at the studio. Yeah. It was the goofy bad comedian who did the Kool-Aid commercial joke. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. And here's the thing. Tommy, as the NFL gets bigger and bigger, we're going to have more and more money for the athlete and rightfully so. We talked about this weeks ago. I said, you know, no matter what the highest paid guy is making, that guy is underpaid for this sport. It's still underpaid. And a lot of money the NFL is making. Players are underpaid across the board. They are. You know, it's funny. It's not to, like, veer off the highway into the world of golf. But I heard Carmen and the good kid talking about this yesterday, Prok offers, despite the fact that Tiger Woods made every one of them millionaires, and they should bow at the altar of Tiger Woods on a daily basis. They were getting robbed by the PGA Tour because the PGA Tour, Jonathan, was pulling in all of this revenue and the players were only getting X percentage and that percentage didn't compare even close to most of the other major sports and when, you know, live golf came in and it forced them. Scotty Scheffler made 62 and a half million dollars this year. Yeah. Yeah. And it's because of the competition that, you know, the point I'm making is is you're right, Jonathan, like these guys still based on a percentage, you know, scale are probably underpaid, but I think they get like 50 or 51 cent on every dollar. But it's a, the, the Jamar Chase thing is a, as a former Reds, or a Bengals fan. And they're still my second favorite team. It makes no sense if in fact the hurdle here is cash. If you don't want to pay him because he's got two years left, that's a different conversation. But if this is about cash on hand, that's an argument that you can't win with me because I think it was when the Green Bay Packers opened their books most recently because they're a publicly held company, they had to show. I think in excess of $400 million was the number that every team in the league gets in March at the end of March from the collective television contracts. The salary caps under $250 million. So you're telling me you're $150 million to the good on March 30th because of the television contract. So like, I'm not saying any of the owners are, you know, crying poor. But if they tried, you'd turn and walk the other way, you know, it's so crazy. Tommy, let's talk about this game coming up on Sunday. They should have to win a cap. I mean, again, there's no bust win in the first week of a season that, but this is a game you need to go out and take care of business on. What is your, what do you ask this earlier in the show and I couldn't wait to ask you, what is your ceiling for this team? Do you look at them and go, that team could go all the way or no, I don't think, I don't think they're in all the way team yet because they've, you know, you've got youth quarterback position. I think the world of him, but it's still a learning process. I still have questions about their offensive and defensive line. There's still questions and this is, you know, I just don't think in this league, you wake up one day, two years ago, you win three games. The following year, you win seven games and then all of a sudden, you win a Super Bowl. I don't think that, I know last of first is easiest in this league, but I just don't think last to the Super Bowl is something that they're going to do. I had them last and final and I think we asked you this yesterday, Kevin. I had them at 10 and seven. I could see, I got a little giggly when I was doing something with the folks I work with at marquee and I think I predicted 11 and six, but I had them winning, I had them winning the Jaguar game in London with them and initially when I saw that game, I had the jags winning that game. It's virtually a home game for them over there because they're so familiar with the situation. I think they're 10 and seven, could they get to 11 and six if things go well, yeah? Could they also go nine and eight and I would understand that it wouldn't be a disaster absolutely. I think they're going to be a much better team this year on a number of fronts, but again, as I said before, I think this game, it's not a must win. It statistically doesn't rule you out if you don't win the opener, but from the following perspective, I think they have to win this game. There's so much positive momentum up there in that building. There is so much that is pointed in the right direction. This team needs confirmation that all of that stuff is real and it's not smoke and mirrors and if you go out there against the Titans, a lesser team with a new head coach and a second year quarterback that they don't know really whether or not he's a guy on your home field and you lose that game, I think that it doesn't ruin them guys, but it's not the confirmation you're looking for to reaffirm that all of this is going in the right direction plus the end of the second half, your schedule is brutal. So this is one of the games that, again, I'm not going to see here and tell you it's a must win and if they don't win, it's going to ruin their season, but you guys tell me how you felt after losing to the Packers after the opening game of the season last year and there weren't a ton of expectations last year. You've got a lesser team coming to town, you've got high expectations, the vibe is great. This is a game that they should win and I think for their own confirmation, they really need to win. Yeah, Tommy, the loss against the Packers felt like that, that upper echelon college football team that has their first loss of the season, you know, the season is over. Yeah. That's what it felt like. Just like, oh, you lost the first game, okay, well, to board up all the small businesses because it's all over, we're not winning the national championship, that's how it felt to me. Well, and Jonathan, it was supposed to be, you know, the changing of the guard. You know, here comes the Green Bay Packers, they've owned us, but their quarterback has never started really a game and, you know, we're in our building. This is the moment where we turn the table and we got boat raced. More with Tommy coming up on the Captain J. Hood Morning Show. Gentlemen, can I please have your attention? I've just been handed an urgent news story. Capp and J. Hood are back. Cannonball! On ESPN Chicago. It is a waddle Wednesday on the Captain J. Hood Morning Show on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. Tommy, have you got a chance to take a look at the week one slate? Do you have a game that you've circled? It's like, yeah, I like this one. Bears and Titans. All right, you didn't have to do that, I mean, you didn't have to go, you know, Homerism. Tom Waddle from the Markey Network joins us here on Capp and J. Hood. I'm sorry. Um, listen, I think, I think Ravens and chiefs and week one is, you know, as delicious as it gets. I don't know what's going to happen Friday, to be honest with you. I can't imagine that the Packers and Eagles are thrilled about being in Brazil to play this game. Did you see what they told the players? Don't go outside your hotel. Correct. And I was up in Wisconsin and in the local paper, there were quotes from players going, I'm not leaving my room except to get on the bus and to go to the game or to go downstairs to eat. And they said, if you walk around at all, do not have your phone with you, you will get mugged for it. Yeah. Like, I can't imagine this is what the NFL was hoping for as they were trying to broaden the horizons and create new revenue streams that guys were going to go there and not be able to get out of their hotel. I just don't think it's the way you want to open up an NFL season if you're the Eagles or you're the Packers. But the Thursday nighter is great. I think there's some intrigue with a lot of these games, Jonathan, like who doesn't want to see the Falcons with kind of their new look situation with Kirk Cousins. They play the Steelers, what's Russ going to do? You know, you've got the Colts and Texans. I heard Shay, you know, with the Texans as his fourth best team, like, I think the Colts are going to be a really competitive team this year. Dolphins and Jags is good. And then your Monday nighter, I was also saying to Shay, I think that the Jets have got a chance to really be a good team this year. They were the third ranked defense, I think, by most metrics last year, I know they lost a pass rusher and then we're bringing in Hassan Redick to fill that void. But they can play defense. They've got talent on the, I think, you know, who are you going to get in Aaron Rodgers? I don't necessarily write them off because he tore his Achilles last year. Are you going to do it again this year? I don't think the odds are high of it. Could it happen because he's advanced in age? I don't know. You're three years removed from him being the MVP of the league. And I think there's a chance that he, you know, he has a really good year and makes everybody eat it. So I think the Jets could be a kind of one of those teams that catches your attack. I have them in the Super Bowl. Well, yeah, because you've got to, yeah, you've got an unhealthy feeling about Aaron, but why is it unhealthy? Well, no, I just mean like you love him so much. I'm just a fan. I'm a big Aaron Rodgers fan. Yes. That means no Vaseline. Go ahead. Oh my God. Ouch. Man, that got... It got fish early. It got ugly really early. That didn't go zero to a hundred. That went zero to a thousand. But was that not a good line time? It was fabulous. Okay. Then stop complaining about it. Absolutely. Okay. Let's stop talking about it. Let's move on. The Chiefs. I don't see the Jets getting past the Chiefs. So... Okay. They can't win every year. Why not? They're not going to win every year. You can. Even Tom Brady didn't win every year. You can though. You may find out that this guy's better than Tom Brady when all of a sudden die. Tommy, I'm just... For the record, I'm not being against Kansas City ever again. Me. I'm with you, Jonathan. Like, I always used to say that about Brady. I'll be late to the Brady, you know, the professional portion of it, to his funeral, his career. I feel the same way about the Chiefs. And that kid, I'm telling you, is... I think he'll go down as the best quarterback that's ever played the game when he's finished. You know those metal poles that are at House Hall to represent every year of the Chicago Bears? I didn't know where you were going with that. But yes, yeah. What does the matter with you, Tommy? I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. Remind out of the gutters. Runk. I would just ask about the abre... There was no glitter, right? Jonathan, is it... No, no. I don't think it was. No. I was just wondering about those poles that they have in the ceiling. Like, can you pull the Abe Gibran one down? I mean, it really was a scarlet letter on the Chicago Bears, right? Oh, Jonathan, you have to tell the full story. You can't tell just the good moments. Like, right? I'll be in the... I just sounded like Abraham Flus right there. Right? Yeah, me. But you have to tell the entire story. You can't skip the low points. You've got to tell the whole thing. Cap, there was a lot of silver up there. There was a ton. A lot of just bad years. Very few orange. That's right. That's me. Do you want to eliminate the... What was it? The '92 season where they fired coach after the end of the year. This too shall pass. Goodbye, kid. Going to the Saints. Good. You know, he offered me... He called me when I was on vacation. I don't know if I told you that story and wanted me to be his receivers coach. He did. Yeah. And why didn't you go? Because I had so much respect for him I knew I couldn't do the job in a manner in which he needed it to be done because I had two young kids at the time. And I was... I was cooked. I'd been involved in football since I was professional. You want to just join the forces with me? Yes, that's true. I wanted to work with you, Cap. That's why I said no to Coach Dica and yes to you. Take that coach! I said yes to Dave and to you and no to Coach Dica. I am going to put that on my Wikipedia today. Tom Watt will turn down Coach Dica to be with me for 10 years. Tommy, I know that the passes for Cowards and Losers as Coach would tell you. But imagine you now because with coaches, you know, being part of Dica's coaching staff, you still be in coaching. You'd be on someone's hard knocks in the corner. Not at the table, but like in the corner giving your thoughts on the wide receiver core. Who's the old dude over there? Tom Watt. It's Tom Watt. He's right now. What you're doing, Jonathan, is validating my decision. You made the right call. You validated my decision. I think that that's, I think that'll be awesome. You're trading your whole draft for who? Well, listen, this is, I have all the respect in the world for the guys that do this job because it is 24/7 and you have to love it and you have to be, as Cap says, all in. If you're not all in, you're just doing everyone's time. Exactly. And I couldn't commit to that. I had young kids and it wasn't going to happen. Well, I think the best part of hard knocks is we got some insight about Bayless Jones, which is really good. Oh, Jonathan. Really good insight, I thought. I said this a week and a half ago, maybe to you guys. I said, we all need to find someone in life that loves us the way that they love Bayless Jones. Tommy, we got a role. Okay, that's fine. We're up against it. Okay. All right. I got to keep us online here. All right. Have a great rest. And I just got cut again. This is the fifth time. I just got cut. That's it. You guys just cut me. That's it. Have a great day. All right. Love you, Tommy. Love you guys. Bye. Love you. I love you. Bye. [BLANK_AUDIO]
