For a three hour ride on this Waddle Wednesday, we'd open phone lines for you. 3-1-2, 3-3-2, 3-7-7-6 is our phone number. And Cap, we're just five days away from kickoff, as the Bears take on the Titans. Of course, you can hear every Bears game right here on the home of the Bears, ESPN 1000. But there's so many interesting facets to this Bears team. That's coming up. Look, we talked about it yesterday. Now, one winning season in the last 10. And it has been just a cruel time for Bears fans, just trying to figure out when can you have some sustained momentum for this football team. And again, when people are asking me, so two people asked me yesterday about the Chicago Bears on the street, I'd say, "What do you think of the Bears?" Went to the dentist, saw Dr. Becker, over here at the Fox 32 building. "What do you think of the Bears?" I said, "And he's a Packer fan." I go, "We're coming." I said, "Have you watched Hard Knocks?" I said, "We're a competent franchise now." I said, "I can't tell you how many games the team's going to win. I can't tell you about the success overall, because it has to play out." I said, "But this thing, this operation is going in the right direction, for sure." And I haven't said that in quite a long time. Yeah, I thought Tommy's response early was, I feel like our team's being run by adults. He's right. Like to watch polls, and see how he interacts with players, and how he interacts with staff, and have he gotten to know him. I just feel like they're in a much healthier place than they have been in forever. And I was talking to a player yesterday, and he said, "I'm telling you, there's something special going on up here. It's different. It's different." He's been here, this is not a rookie. And he said, "That coach, we play for that dude." He said, "And there's a vibe in our room that we have not had." And he goes in, "That kid quarterback is going to be a star." I understand, Cap. And I think that you're coming around to my a way of thinking with this, with some Bears fans, that feel like that the football will be taking away from them, just like Charlie Brown trying to kick it. And Lucy takes it away. They feel like, "Oh, we've been here before. Kate McDowne, we've been here before. Jay Cutler, we've been here before." But again, the thing that we're trying to make the Bears fan understand from our standpoint is, it's about the team, yes. But it's also about the infrastructure around the team, if that makes sense. It's one thing to say from a personnel standpoint, look at what Ryan Polls has built. I want you just to compare any of the Jay Cutler years, any of the time for Kate McDowne, any of the time for the quarterback du jour that you thought was going to be able to lead this franchise offensively, compare those eras to what is happening now at House Hall. I mean, if you don't believe in the team and be like, "Ah, this team is going to be the same old, same old," well, look at the movement that's been happening here. We have seen general managers or pro personnel people do this cursory move, get this one draft pick here or there, but it wasn't like the other good teams that we see in the NFL. You and I and all other Bears fans admire the teams that understand that we have to make sweeping changes here. We have to change the coaching staff and we've got to be able to change our personnel or believe in a coach and just continue to put the personnel around this coach so that way we can move forward to be a perennial playoff team. I feel like that's the direction the Bears are going, to be a perennial playoff team just based on the personnel, the Polls, the Cunninghams, other warns. To me, that's sustainable. They ain't going anywhere. This is not going to be a lark of, they're only going to be here for three years and you move on. I know you've seen it before, but that's not what's happening now. I don't believe. I agree with what you said there. I just look at the way they're building this team. Do they need another standout offensive lineman? Sure, they would love to have one of those. They'll get one maybe next year in the draft. Would they love to get some accomplished rush edge? Yeah, they may make a trade during the season or they'll draft one of those. But you look at the depth of the team, the way they've been put together, the way this young quarterback is developing. I was watching hard knocks when I got home from taking my son to the Cubs game. And when Brett Ripon was getting released and he said he's doing the interview in his car. And he said, you know, my age is going to work something out. And I don't want to go practice squad to practice squad. It's a two man room. He said in Caleb Williams, going to be a hell of a player. You could tell class class. He was all class. And now he's with the Vikings. Good luck to him. The other thing was in talking with this player that I spoke with yesterday, he said, this Caleb is all about ball. He said, everybody in the room is following that dude. And he's a rookie. He said, it's rare, very rare. Compare them to Aaron Rodgers. And that's player. And that is high praise. High praise. High praise. So we'll see how this whole thing shakes out. It gets going for real on Sunday. But I have never been more excited. I was very, very concerned opening day last year. I remember turning on the station. First time we're ever going to do the bears. And they're silly. And talking about the electricity it sold your field and everybody's all excited. And I had told you, I don't think we're beating the Packers. I did not. We didn't. We got crushed. Didn't think we'd get destroyed like that. Now that they're in this position with this kid at quarterback with Keenan Allen and DJ Moore and Roman Dunezay and DeAndre Swift. Go out, establish the run first and foremost, and then let the kid work as magic. I mean, and again, there's going to be growing pains with that too. But I just, again, when I look at this depth chart as you know, I look at it every morning. One of the tabs I open up first is the depth chart. As if it's going to change. And so, and by the way, throughout the summer, it did change. But now we have solidified what the team's going to look like. But, Cap, again, just circling back to the point where I know that you've seen Mitch and you've seen Jay Cutler and you've seen the Grossman era and you've seen Mick, Mick Nown and Jim Miller and Chad Hutchinson on and on and on. As far as the quarterbacks are concerned, but think about where the organization was. In the Lovey Smith era, there was stability there because you saw the Bears get to the Super Bowl. Again, it was up and down in the Lovey Smith era, but at least the team got to the Super Bowl, falling short against the Colts. What I'm saying is that Ryan Polls is doing something completely different than any front office person has done in the Chicago Bears as far as the history is concerned. And that is leveling it down and just saying, "We're going to start over." And that's a hard sell because an owner thinks, "Well, we just need to clean up a few things and we're back into the playoffs." No. No, you're paying high prices for athletes that are not getting the job done. Look at your payroll, George. These guys here that you covet aren't any good. We have to be able to reimagine the franchise and we're going to do that. We're going to try to get the number one draft pick. Not once, but you got it twice. All I'm saying is that the wheeling and dealing that's happening in House Hall is going to culminate into a perennial playoff team from my standpoint. That's what I'm looking at, and by the way, as a fan, what I wanted to super bowl, but the second best thing is to think that my team has a chance every year. By the line. Correct. I would love to be the New England Patriots. Sure. Oh, wow. Every year when you don't win, it's a really, really stunning thing. Or be the Chiefs. That'd be amazing. I can't go to that level yet. I think it's going to get there. I do. But this team led by this kid, this is the best it's ever been set up. And George does deserve credit that when polls went in for his interview and said, no, no, no, this is not a quick fix. This is not one Ryan to the next. Just get a few players here. I'm tearing it all the way apart. I'm trading Khalil Mack. We're moving out from Eakeem and Rokwan and Alan Robinson and this one. And that one, we are going to rebuild the whole thing. Really? And he did. He could have been dishonest like a lot of people in his positions like, yeah, we can get this turned quickly. I mean, as far as polls went with us, he said that, well, this is not a total rebuild. We just need a little spackle, a little pain. Remember he said that to us? Yeah. So we have to remodel a couple of rooms. Yes. And so that's fine to say publicly, but he looked around and said, look at his payroll and then look at the results. Look at these veterans and look at the results. Yeah. No, we're going to part with these guys. And again, the hope is, is that this works out. I believe that it will. I believe that it will because we haven't seen this before. Usually teams in this situation gets a young quarterback at the top of the draft and go, here you go. We're just going to throw the baby into the bathwater and swim. Good luck. No, no, no. We're going to give him an infrastructure, a word that is foreign to the Chicago Bears. Infrastructure. We're going to build this thing and make sure that our scouting staff is up to par. We've got Kevin Warren is going to build us a stadium. So he's over here. He doesn't have his beak into the football operation. As far as the X's and O's and all that stuff. I'll take care of the football. Me and my staff will take care of the football. And we are going to build this thing into a playoff team. And so when I think about this gap, I think about the important things that you need to see in week one. And so one of them is that the offensive line keeps Caleb Williams upright. See, to me, the offensive line is still a work in progress. However, if the offensive line holds up, then Caleb Williams can be able to get the ball down the field. He can move around the pocket. And there's going to be mistakes made. Here's a prediction, not a spoiler cap. Here's a prediction. Caleb Williams is going to make mistakes in his first year as a quarterback with the Chicago Bears team. He will, but you know why? He's a neophyte of the position and the pros. Oh, he saw him in college and he was fantastic in college. But there's going to be some growing pains. The hope is that the offensive line can hold up long enough for him to be able to overcome some of the miscues and mistakes that he's going to make as a rookie quarterback. If you can establish the run Sunday, that is the key to the whole thing for me offensively. You've got to be able to run the football early in this game. Then you can use play action. Then you can take shots down the field, but they've got to be able to run the football. That is the key to winning the game offensively on Sunday. They'll make the wide receivers pissed off now. They're ready to go. You got three wide receivers ready. You got, yeah, I got a younger Dunes A, got DJ Moore. You know, you've got Ken Allen ready to go. Give me the ball. They're going to run the football first. You know what I'm saying. They're going to be ready to go and a tight end ready to go too. Yeah, and they'll take their, I'm not telling you they're not going to throw the football. They are. The key is being able to establish the run early. I'm telling you that's where their mindset is. Okay. How about defensively? Where's their mindset there? Stop the run. Got to be able to stop the run. Because if you could stop the run, then you force them into obvious passing downs. Those are the keys to winning the football game. Those are the keys. Obviously not turning it over. But you cannot come out and throw the ball 45 times. You can't do it. You do that. You're probably going home with a loss. Coming up, we talk about hard knocks. It was the last installment of hard knocks on HBO Max. We're going to talk about it with you. If you've got a chance to watch hard knocks, man, it was an interesting and very unique series featuring the Chicago Bears and yesterday's episode cap. One of the main takeaways is how difficult the job is of a general manager when he is able to have a connection with players and knowing that you've got to cut those players. I mean when Ryan Polls went through, in particular with Adrian Colbert, like we saw that last game, that last precinct game where he made plays. And there's an aura about him that the players like and obviously it permeated through the general manager's office. But the idea that Polls had to walk away for a second. Just to clear the tears and the emotion of it all. Knowing that he's got to cut someone that he likes, that's a tough business. Very tough and he talked when he was open in Cunningham walked in and he said, "I got emotional." That cat has been hanging on in the league trying to make it with multiple teams and had that big play in the KC game when it came diving across the middle to break up a pass. Like he did everything he could possibly do. It's on the unfortunate part of the game, but it is what it is. It's a numbers game. But I love our GM. Love, but it's just, it's got to be very difficult in that position to take the emotion out of it though. You can't just be stonewalls. It's like, "Well, you know, this guy was in our camp. We did everything he's supposed to do, but we're cutting him." That's not Dica, right? Like that's Ryan Polls. And the reason why that resonated with him is because he's been there. Big number 70 has been, has been cut before. And he was cut and never played another down, as Leeve Schreiber said. Released by the Bears, never played another down a football in his life. Pretty amazing. Life comes at you fast. It does. And when you believe that you're living your dream, like I've got the uniform on, I finally made to this level, and they say, "Nope, you're not good enough." For Adrian Colbert, he's such an interesting spirit cap, because he's just like floating on air. Just like, "Yeah, I'll just float to another team." Right, he's bicycling around. Yeah, super cool. I mean, because, I mean, he's been cut once. It's his tenth time he's been cut. Something like that. He's been cut a ton in his NFL career. And that's tough. The other thing about Hard Knocks is it's not just about the diehards are listening or you and I or Shay that enjoy, you know, football conversation, the ins and outs. It's people that are on the periphery, like Peacock, who closed her laptop in time at eight o'clock. It's like, "Okay, I'm going to watch this last one." She's been watching. And this is what happens when you have someone that she's a Bears fan, but she's not like watching every game next to me every single Sunday, every time they play. But she's into the storylines, like the Ian Wheeler storyline. You know, idea that the guy's out for a year. His mom is right there at his side or he's on the phone talking to her in the last night's episode. What he's going through, the surgery and all that. She's into that. She's interested in that story. And that's what Hard Knocks is for. It's a super cool story because the kid is sticking around. If the kid was, here's your injury, start them and get out. Yeah. That he's going to be on the practice, not the practice of the injured reserve with a chance to work out and rehab around those practice squad. Super cool. I'm excited like I've never been for this season. Okay. I've always entered a season excited and happy that the Bears are playing with trepidation. Like, I don't know, I hope it's just good. I hope Justin's good. I expect this team to be good. I'll be very, very disappointed if we do not have a very entertaining season. We also fast forward in Hard Knocks about how soon it takes to be able to edit all this together to have a show on Tuesday. They fast forward it right to Saturday on the sidelines of the Georgia Clemson game. And watching Ryan Poulsy and Cunningham taking a look at the running backs. I think at Clemson and for Georgia, just taking a look and seeing what's going on there. I mean, this happened last Saturday. It was edited in in time to be able to put the show on on Tuesday. And there, of course, is Joe Shane, the general manager for the Giants. Okay. He's right there next to Ryan Pouls and Pouls kind of talked to him and he kind of just walked away from him because they've had negotiations before, as you well know, from the Giants Hard Knocks. Not having to look for quarterbacks and they're standing out there at your favorite school's game and the grind never stops. Once the season is here, that grind until the draft never stops for this dude. So we should also delve into this cap. Was there news or not news that we saw at Hard Knocks yesterday? Let's talk about Vales Jones. You and I have gone back and forth about Vales Jones, whether or not he is a talent for this team. Should he stay on the roster? I told you at the time, Cap, that he was drafted. A guy that's older, a guy that would not be a wide receiver on this football team. I thought, okay, either he's going to be a value to this team or not. And so let's talk about what Ryan Pouls said on Hard Knocks about Vales Jones. I think through his mind, he's thinking, well, if I can't get more than a second to third round draft pick, then I'm not going to consider moving him. You saw that it was kind of like mumbled and there was like a, there was words on the bottom of the screen where he's kind of talking under his breath about Vales Jones. So I guess the bigger question I have for you is if the Bears could get a third round pick for Vales Jones, would Vales Jones still be on the football team? He would have considered, his line was because I went back and watched it again this morning. He said, I wouldn't consider anything less than a four. But they really, really believe in this kid, like they do not want to move him. Someone called and said, I'll give you a second. I think he would have done it. That's a high pick. Me too. And that would be not smart on the part of the other team. Like for Vales Jones, a third round pick. And Pouls wasn't giving him away for a five, a six. No. And the people that were writing, oh, there's no chance he makes the roster. I read that on multiple articles wrong. They love Vales Jones. Now he's got to play well to keep his gig, but they are big, big fans of that kid. Well, let's be fair when you say love. I think that's an overstatement. I think to be fair, if there was a third round pick that was available, the Bears would be like, all right, that'll be all. I mean, you might love a player, but if a second or third round pick was available, they would have taken it because Vales Jones at this time is not going to be a wide receiver for this football team. He was in the running back room and a running back room is already crowded. You talk about running the football, right? That's going to be Swift and Herbert a lot. And so, you know, to me, it's just about the speed. That's what it is. Like the ability for him to do multiple things for the football team. That's what I believe. They really, like he hasn't proven it yet. So no one was giving you a second round draft pick, but he was never in danger of getting cut. Never. And the way he played as a running back, being thrown into that room and training camp and showing what he showed, they were never cutting that dude. Never. And if they loved him, he'd have a spot on this football team as far as, you know, a starter. I think they like his ability on the football team. Love him. I think that they could say we have a package of plays that could work with Vailus Jones. Again, a great personality. We've seen that come through the TV. There's no doubt about that. Good in the room. Sure. But again, here's a guy here that does not really have a position on the team. Does not, not yet. No, he has to continue to earn that, but they are big fans of that kid. Like, again, they were never cutting him. Never. How about the guy walking to work, giving us the bear claw? It's like a thing now. How about that guys? Sport code. He's got his coffee and with the other hand, bear claw. Love it. Think about that, Cap. Love it. The, as we talk about hard knocks on the cap and jaywood boarding show, if you get a chance to watch it, we want to hear your thoughts at 312-332-3776. How about the beekeeper? Oh, yeah. That's next to my yellow pad. So to me, and Mattie Refloos doesn't get it yet, but he will, if the bears start winning. And we believe that this is going to be a winning season. Even Floos does not get it yet. He might have been that some golf tournament here, then at the grocery store there, got some people talking to him about the Chicago Bears. Matt does not get, because the ball club been 10 and 24 the last couple of seasons, but once the bears start winning, he will understand that that beekeeper bit, or him getting his steps in with his wife, all that stuff is going to resonate with the bear fan, because they want to live vicariously through the coach, the coach that has a winning team, the coach that is a perennial playoff team of the Chicago Bears, the coach of the Super Bowl champion Chicago Bears. He doesn't get it yet, because he's been beating over the head and has lost a lot since he's been here. But once they turn it, I think he'll understand the love that we all have for the Chicago Bears and the team and him. We go back to 85, and I told you this a couple of weeks ago, everybody knew everything about every player on the roster, including the coaching staff in 85, because everybody had a personality, and everyone had a story. When Abraham Floos, a football guy, right? Right. But then you get him in his yard, talking to the players, and spent time with his wife, and getting his steps in, and he's a beekeeper of some distinction. That's personality. People like personality around here. Yeah, when he said, "Look, I'm a little busy. I've got a guy that takes care of the bees." But I just thought the whole vibe was cool. I know there are people that wish there was profanity in the show. There are others like, "I can watch it with my kids." So there's no profanity. I enjoyed it. I really did. The fact that my favorite football team was on that series, I enjoyed it. I did. He has bees, and I think that's just very odd. Now, again, I was part of the property when he bought it, correct? Right. It was in aviary, as he said. He goes, "I'm not the guy taking care of the bees. I'm a little busy. I've got a guy that does that for us." It's very strange. Very strange. I would not have that. Now, here's the thing that, hey, Abraham Floos has got one on you, because you don't have a bee guy. I do not have a bee guy. You've got a lot of guys. You've got a lot of people at your whim. Go through your phone, pick up the phone, call this guy. But you don't have a bee guy. Well, I do not have a bee guy. I do not. But I got friends. My guy, Tony Rizzo, in Cleveland, he takes bee pollen every day. Bee pollen. Said, "Dude, it makes you feel great." It's like a big deal. People take it. Do you even eat honey, Cap? I do eat honey occasionally. Yes. Would you eat e-reflucis honey? Sure. That's good to know. Sure. That's good to know. Send me some fresh, all right, harvested honey. Yeah. What's the matter, Shay? It's right. It's very concerned. We weren't talking about honey anymore. Well, you are. It's part of the show. Yeah, a little Greek yogurt, just a little fresh honey. Right. That's all unfiltered. You're painting a disturbing photo in my brain. Why? Three one two three three two three seven seven six down the Taco Bell and go with the Greek yogurt. Oh Put down the Taco Bell a Partner here in the adventure. I'm not saying it's not probably delicious. I haven't had it. What you said was fat ass eat something healthy That's what you just said. No you Maybe you're looking in the mirror and going maybe say it. I'm a little heavy hoodie. All right, what is he saying right now? Fat ass eat something different. He always does that and he's gonna say it one too many times around me And he's gonna go through that wall. I would never say that to you. Yeah, you look great. Oh sure Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania listening on the ESPN Chicago app here is Ted on cap and J hood Ted. Good morning Hey gentlemen, good morning I'm probably need to crucify for this statement, but I just have to say it this team gives me 2016 Chicago Cubs vibes same vibes I got when Dexter Fowler came out of the infield outfield when CoF student was talking to the team and it all these rumors how Fowler was with the Orioles he came out of nowhere and with the Cubs and it just gave everyone goosebumps Watching yesterday's episode and just seeing how everyone talking together It just feels like a family like something that we've never had before agreed and and I just it's goosebumps morning and I know I'm not saying they're gonna be football But I'm just saying this team just is built like no other bear team We have and my 41 years have been alive Ever witnessed I was too young for the 85 bears to appreciate it But this team I'm soaking every single ounce in because the team is it's just awesome other awesome personalities I completely agree with you. Ted you said the 16 Cubs right not the 15 16 Cubs. Yeah, okay. Well, I mean How about you and I negotiate the 15 Cubs? Okay, that's that's true. I mean Yeah, they got a it went far and they learned from their mistakes and didn't make it as far as they should have but you know You know, you know, I gotta fail in order to succeed. So I mean that that team You know as you well know to cap you're in the precipice of getting there as soon as Joe Madden was hired I said, okay You get the top shelf manager here. It's what who's it's the manager that everyone wanted the team like they would looks Like it was in place you had the pitching and you just fell short that year, but 16. That's when you knocked it down And I think it's incremental steps. I think that's only fair when we talk about the Chicago Bears Ted, we appreciate the telephone call coming up. We've got five burning questions about the Chicago Bears We'll get to that don't forget shot or no shot at a clock all part of the mix on the home of the bears cap and jayhood Captain jayhood S. P. N. Chicago Here's two days headline headline with cap and jayhood Thanks, yeah No problem campus the guy to run the port Rough night in Chicago baseball Oriels blasted the White Sox 9 nothing The microcosm of the season was either a week ago when Lanine Sosa took a warm-up toss between the eyes Or last night when Vargas and Ben and Tendi collided on a bloop down the left field line from Eloy Jimenez The former White Sox not playing for the Orioles Three run scored. This is still full. Here's the X Sox Eloy Jimenez For nothing Orioles swinging a high pop fly to left Three Sox defenders in the area. It'll be Ben and Tendi only collides with Vargas and the ball drops out of the mitt trickles in the foul territory and Three runs will score and Miguel Vargas is laid out. He got hit in the face and I hope he's all right It's seven nothing Orioles, but right now all the attention Is on the White Sox third baseman. This was a nasty collision It was a nasty collision. Yeah Get back your shape work White Sox lose nine nothing Cubs They had to go up against Paul Skeens loaded the bases twice against him Could not come up with a big hit in a big spot Kyle Hendrix went five innings gave up just two runs the bullpen Imploded gave up a three run Jack Cubs get shut out at the friendly confines They are now four and a half back in the wild card race and the Bears Game planning they're back at full practice today in advance of Sunday season opener that you'll get right here on ESPN 1000 and the Titans invade soldier field shape Follow Chicago's home for sports on Twitter at ESPN 1000 cap and J hood are back on ESPN Chicago Chicago's home for sports The flame is lit and the heat's on that's your question. Yeah, you got to ask me Five perting questions. I asked you a question answer me when I talk on cap and J hood Yeah It is time for five burning questions on the cap and J Good morning show on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app All right cap, you ready? Bring it on five burning questions about our Chicago Bears number one Name the four best units in order on this Bears team Let's do it do it together for best units in order on this year's team So I'm going secondary first. Okay Can I go linebacker? I would go wide receiver second wide receiver line backer. Yep and fourth running back room Okay offensive line still has to prove itself to me same with defensive line. So we have secondary wide receiver Secondary wide receiver linebacker and running backs running backs. You can put special teams in there I do like our punter and our place kicker. Mm-hmm. You could put that there, but I would leave that to fifth I've got to see more out of the offensive line Got to see more out of the defensive line Chases is it a successful season for the Bears in the regular season if the secondary stronger than the wide receivers? Yeah, yeah, yes Because I think the receivers are going to be very good. So if the secondary is better Yeah, yeah, because now you flip the field because there's going to be opportunistic cap Especially led by Jalen Johnson Be able to get turnovers and now you're putting the offense in a great position Correct, but you've got to get pressure on the quarterback We're gonna find out if they're better than these receivers that they're like the Legion of boom that would be insane What are these receivers all blow like it one or the other and I don't think it's the second you talk about the D-backs Yeah, I'm saying if the DB's are better than the receivers. That's the Legion of boom that DB room is loaded man Loaded has got to be healthy if Brisker Gordon Johnson Stevenson Embired are healthy. Oh, doctor. Let's go somebody will be able to turn it over and The secondary will put the offense in place to get that offense started extra possessions because of the secondary number two After this season whereas met Ira flus among the best coaches in the NFC North After the season's over Where's met Ira flus among the best coaches in the north? I? Mean there's good coaches and Kevin O'Connell Everyone says is one of the three or four best play callers in the league and they love him in Minnesota Nat LaFluor Matt LaFluor is a damn good football coaches proven it and Dan Campbell has resurrected a more abundant franchise that has legitimate Super Bowl aspirations, so Nat moves into their category if they have a really good season But I don't think he surpasses those guys after one year How about this if you believe that Matt Ira flus is gonna be coach of the year and you do He's got to be number one. No, absolutely not One year does not push you past the run that LaFluor has been on for sure Matt LaFluor is a really really accomplished football coach. You do have Matt as coach of the year Yeah, because I think they come from three wins to seven to 11 12 10 whatever it is They went if they get to the post season and have a really good year and they've developed a rookie quarterback And he looks like the part. Yeah, I think Matt will win that that does not push him to number one in the division No, so Shade then and I believe the Bears will make the playoffs who made our predictions and go back to the archives of the Captain Jay Hood show Podcast and we met our predictions in the second hour I believe that at season's end Ira flus will be third Because there's still The Lions and Dan Campbell in which I believe they will win the division There is Matt LaFluor because of his experience and I think it's it's Matt. I think it's Matt Ira flus That's third well, Connell bringing up the rear Yeah, it feels like O'Connell can only Go down this year with what the team is expected to be but at the same time like Calculating coaches is so scripty. Mm-hmm. Think about Andy Reed and coach of the year Andy Reed is one coach of the year one time. It was in 2002 in Philadelphia meaning He spent basically a decade being one of the two if not one best coaches in the NFL in Kansas City Has never won that award so that that can't tell me a lot if Kevin O'Connell can win seven games with this outfit in Minnesota He's an incredible coach like you just have to tip your hat. He's amazing. So it this division's tough because I think it's filled with elite coaches it's difficult for Matt Ira flus to get into that conversation and succeed them. All right, we're in the middle of five burning questions Cap and I have three more for you and your thoughts on the Bears three one two three three two three seven seven six our phone number This is the cap and j-hood morning show on ESPN 1000 and also on our YouTube channel This is your morning routine. That's gonna be awesome a Maristar casino in East Chicago two to four join me All right, Shay Welcome back to cap and j-hood experience weekdays from seven to ten on Chicago's home for sports ESPN should come In the middle of our five burning questions here on the cap and j-hood morning show cap number three What is the most encouraging aspect of Caleb Williams at quarterback in the preseason? The most encouraging thing is that all the reports out of camp is that he is a leader and that guys are following and That veteran players I've talked to with no microphone no camera around it all said that dude special that dudes different You guys have never seen anything like this in Chicago. That is the most impressive thing. He started slowing the Bengals game. Mm-hmm. He made a couple of spectacular throws the one To a doomsday down the left sideline the one in the back corner the end zone When he tightrope the sideline and threw it but Rome was standing beyond the pilot those things were cool The fact that the reports coming out from veteran teammates How much they love this dude? That's what I'm cool with That's what's good. You know what cap and it's a small sample size But I saw it a lot in college that poison the pocket when he didn't seem like he was rushed now again Hell's coming to breakfast on Sunday when they very tick on the Titans because it's for real now But I'm just saying that his poise to be able to get out of traffic and throw the ball down the field I was encouraged by that that he wasn't overwhelmed I guess twos against threes whatever it's still football and I thought that he did a really good job of being able to get that done Poison the pocket moving out of there and being able to go down the field Getting a lot of that man That means a lot of touchdowns a lot of production look forward to that Yeah, go through his reads is something we have not seen bears quarterbacks recently do Mitch struggled with it Justin struggle with it Let's hope this guy's different number four How many pro bowlers could the Bears have this season? How many pro bowlers so let's start with Jalen Johnson. Yes, you and I Jalen Johnson. That's one DJ Moore yes, who Anybody offensive line Got it Kevin Jenkins could absolutely be a pro baller if he's healthy. Yes He absolutely could be your lips of God's ears that he stays healthy and just like up an anchor right there for Caleb Williams in the offense Yep, God almighty. That's so important for Jenkins and right in particular for them Just to be bookends like we got it. We got you left guard right tackle. We got you. Don't worry about it We're healthy. We'll take care if they have a really really good season like I've predicted them I gave I was on waddle and Sylvia yesterday and I might I've settled on my record. They're going 11 and 6 Okay, what I believe if they win 11 football games, they're gonna have six or seven guys in the Pro Bowl That's just how the deal works You go five and 12. I don't care how well you play. You're not getting to the Pro Bowl Anybody on Montes what? Should be a pro bowler anybody else in the secondary Prinsker I mean Kevin Byard's been a two-time first team all pro now. He's older But Kyler Gordon had at when he came back from injury Kyler Gordon's a monster I could easily see him be a pro ball corner sock corner. Absolutely whole commit Well, you got a lot of competition at that position. Yes. He does cow alternate I mean again if they have a great season could he get there? Certainly he's a hell of a hell of a football player So at least we kind of at least five or six. Yes if the team is really good and if the team's really good Kaleb's going to the Pro Bowl All right last one five questions five burning questions. Here's the fifth one cap The Bears as a unit last year had 30 sacks Will this unit have more than 30 sacks this year? Yes, because because Montes sweat is here for the entire season I think the kid Booker to Marcus Walker all of these guys are going to be better because Montes sweat is lining up at one of the ends. Mm-hmm. I do believe Having that really good amazingly talented defensive backfield will allow some coverage sacks as well So yes, I think they soar past 30 I'd like to know the size Montes sweat is there going to be someone that comes out of nowhere? That gives the Bears that kind of push that they need. It's important It's important like we got a sample size of it last year that 30 It was heavy on the 30 toward the back end of the season because of sweat But I like to know is that going to be the Marcus Walker Are we sure he's going to have a breakout season is that his dravon? Dexter going to be the guy that they want a defensive tackle is he going to be able to be like taking another step He should have had a really good preseason really good training camera. I think Austin Booker Could be a surprise That dude's got a motor motor motor motor. That's the key Shay 30 sacks last year over 30 at 30 under 30 for this season They better have more than 30 if Austin Booker's who I think Austin Booker can be you better finish higher Than 31st in the league and sacks like they did a year ago. I agree like you just have to agree Montes sweat full season. They got a bunch of sacks once they added him last year You're gonna have a more consistent pass rush It still might not be top 10, but can you get me into the 20 to 15 range and sacks, please? Please yeah, no, it's so it's paramount for this team Also, go ahead I think they're gonna blitz a ton if the preseason was any indicator They are going to send pressure from the defensive backfield a lot. Mm-hmm a double team from sweat Can open it up for others for the Billings and for the Dexter's and the walkers and guys of that ilk Which would be great. Well Austin Booker. Well, you just talked about I'm not telling you you got to be top five in the league You just you can't be 31st Shaysh right and Hebrew flu snows that too cuz at his heart at his core. He's a defensive coordinator He will talk to the guys to make sure that that defense is prime and ready It's important a lot of hype over a Caleb a lot of hype over the offense, but the defense has to do their job And you mentioned all the hype and you and I just got a tweet from Eddie Price. Yeah, he listens every day It's crazy that one year after thinking at the cap man and at xj hoodie SPN were being too pessimistic a Debbie Downer about the Bears when they had a pretty solid roster This is a year ago. Whenever you and I were like, no, not there yet. All right I'm thinking geez you guys are way over the top about this team's expectations. I'm cool with that sounds good Have at it. I would say to Eddie that My expectation is the expectation of the general manager The general manager Ryan poll says it's time It's time it went so why can't they be my expectation? No one said Super Bowl around here not on this show But I think it's time for them to take another step and if you don't feel that way Then keep the TV off Correct go to go pick apples with your wife Shout out no shot in two minutes on cap and jay hood You You You
