If you owe money to the-- (upbeat music) - Boy, September's moving right along. We're all ready to Thursday. Good to have you with us today. I'm Eric Carpenter, and this is K-C-V-L, K-C-R-K. Now, it's kind of hard to believe, but it's time already. It's a tradition. It's the 911 Memorial Ride. And that is coming up on Saturday. We talked with John Horton. Talks about all the details. - My name is John Horton. I'm with the American Legion Rider here in Colville, Frank Star Post 47. We host the annual 911 Memorial Ride, and we will start the ride on Saturday through the seventh at Super One parking lot. We will be down there around 8 a.m. There will be coffee and donuts for people that show up a little early. The City of Colville Police and Fire will be there with the fire trucks, and they always hang a flag for us. And we have a group photograph around 8.45 in the morning with all the bikes and the people that want to participate in the ride. We depart Super One parking lot at 9.11 a.m. We go through the north roundabout, down through the main street of Colville, down to the south roundabout, and turn up Hawthorne. And that would be with police and fire escort all the way through town up until we hit Silky Road. And we cut across over to the Tiger Highway and turn right and go up past the high school. And the police and fire escort will terminate up there at the high school. And we will proceed up to Beaver Lodge for our first stop. And they always provide some refreshments, copy, and snacks at Beaver Lodge. And we do a P-O-W-M-I-A remembrance ceremony up there. And we spend about a half hour at Beaver Lodge. We leave Beaver Lodge, and we go over to the town of Medelline Falls. And it would be on a Saturday, but we realize that there's some repaving being done on Tiger Highway. So we may get delayed a little bit, but we're not worried about that. They have pilot trucks, and it'll be a beautiful day. So we'll go over to Medelline Falls, and we'll spend a half hour in Medelline Falls. And from there, we take off and go up to the Sullivan Lake Road, and we ride a long Sullivan Lake back down to the Condolee River. And we go down the east side of the Condolee River and do the bridge that cuts across down there and goes to us. And from there, we proceed a couple of miles back up the river to the Legion Hall in CUSIC. And the members of the Legion up there in CUSIC will be providing a donated lunch for all the riding participants. And the bar would open for anybody that would like seven-up or whatever kind of refreshment. So we'll be there for at least an hour. And from the Legion Hall in CUSIC, we will ride back over a flowery trail to the American Legion Post in Chewila, where there will be a short ceremony honoring the folks from first responders and in the memory of people that perished at 9/11. And from there, the people that live in Colville will take off and go north back to Colville. And some of the riders from Spokane would depart, and that would kind of be the end of the ride right there. Again, if you want to join in or maybe you just want to go down and cheer them on, that's coming up Saturday. Line the sidewalks or be over to Super One Foods. They're gonna get started at the parking lot at Super One. That'll be Saturday morning, eight o'clock. - Need extra support? A lift chair from Saunders Furniture might be the perfect solution. These would establish guidelines for where and under what conditions community-based behavioral health facilities can operate within the city limits. These amendments under review are gonna cover other facilities, such as adult family homes, transitional housing, indoor emergency housing shelters, assisted living facilities, recovery homes, and peer respites. The informational public meeting, it is coming up fairly soon, September the 9th. This is gonna be 6 p.m. in the City Council chambers at City Hall. Now, the proposed changes, the City says, is coming in response to recent updates in state law and policies. The laws aiming to provide comprehensive treatment and rehabilitation services for mental health and substance use disorders. The Planning Commission wants to share their current draft and get public input on it before the final draft. Well, if you've been around Colville a while, you know really what's going on with the City and the Planning Commission and how things operate. So, if I wanna be at this meeting, get your two cents in. Again, this coming up September the 9th, 6 p.m. City Council chambers here in Colville. Your chance to tell the City what you think of what zoning guidelines should be. So Providence and etna were going to end their agreement. Well, earlier this week on Tuesday, they did reach an agreement that means people in Washington will continue to get health care from Providence if they have the etna health care. The health insurer and the hospital system agreed to a multi-year contract, allowing current etna clients to stay in network at Providence hospitals. Both parties say they are pleased to have reached an agreement that puts our patients and members first and look forward to continuing to collaborate to support their care. That was a joint statement from both Providence and etna insurance. Boise Cascade work for a company who cares about their employees and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. Yesterday was very interesting. Spent the day in the highlands in northern Scotland. It was a rather long day. We went to Loch Ness looking for the elusive monster. Did not find the Loch Ness monster. As the captain put it last night, apparently I did not spend long enough at the distillery. He says, "Those that spend a lot of time at the local distillery have enough whiskey, you are liable to see the Loch Ness monster." I skipped the distillery and went straight to looking for the Loch Ness monster, didn't see it. Then went on to the Eileen Donan Castle. Now this is a castle built in the 1500s and in use from the 15-1600s. In the 1700s, the castle fell in disrepair and in fact was all but torn down. And then in the early 1900s, they rebuilt the castle. In 1928, they finished rebuilding the castle and it is still a big tourist attraction in the highlands of Scotland to this day. A lot of people there, but quite a history of the Donan Castle here in Scotland. Well, saw some great sights, but beyond that, learned a lot more about the Scotty's history and what is going on in Scotland. Now, I'll tell you what, it's not just local, it's not just Washington state politicians that are sometimes dumber than posts. They've got their number of them here in Scotland too because I spent the day with a nuclear engineer. She had a lot of very interesting things to say about Scotland, the nuclear plant that she runs. They go into standby mode, the first part of April, every year, because here in Scotland, it's lambing season, the first two weeks of April. And she says, even if she tries to get people to work, they call in sick for those two weeks and so they've just decided that that is maintenance time and they shut down basically the nuclear reactor during the first two weeks of April because it's lambing season. Also, the schools are closed, the first two weeks of April. That's a big thing here in Scotland. Well, and then we went on to discuss current affairs. The big news right now in Scotland is they want to introduce wolves. Sound familiar? They have already introduced wolves in Belgium, not working out very well. The wolves aren't behaving like the government. Once them two, they're attacking cattle. Now, Northern Scotland has a lot of sheep. They also have a good amount of cattle. Well, the government's concept is they have too high of a population of red deer. So they want to introduce wolves to take care of the deer population. The farmers and ranchers are trying to explain to the government types that the wolves will simply take the easy prey of sheep and cattle. Apparently, no final decision has been made yet, but it is the big controversy right now in the highlands of Scotland of reintroducing wolves in areas that, well, they have deer. Then they apparently have too many deer, but they also have a lot of sheep and cattle. And as I explained, they are using Yellowstone as an example of how successful it has been in reintroducing wolves in the states. I don't know how much of an impact I had, but I did try and explain our situation in Northeast Washington and the reintroduction of wolves and how it is affecting sheep and cattle. It's a new school year, and that means, well, everything sometimes changes. This year, Deer Park High School, they are moving. They are transitioning from 1A to the 2A classification. The season getting underway where Deer Park is going to be with the Greater Spokane League, the 24-25 school year with Deer Park entering the Greater Spokane League as a 2A school following reclassification by the Washington Enderscholastic Activities Association. Well, it's kind of reflective of the big population increases, a lot of new housing and apartments, and all down in the Deer Park area, the Deer Park schools entering the Greater Spokane League for sports. What can you say? The Seattle Mariners struggled and lost a game by one run, lost a game by one run, and then came last night's game. What can you say, the Mariners, a 16 to 3 route of the Oakland Athletics? That ends the four-game skid for the Mariners. Seattle entered the day five and a half games back in the last American League wildcard spot, a record long losing streak with four games before last night's win. The Mariners get back to right at 500. They're 70 wins, 70 losses. The M scored seven times in the seventh inning. They sent 12 batters to the plate. Then they got four more runs in the eighth inning. Man, what a game for the Seattle Mariners. Oakland A's in the midst of their second to last homestand in the Oakland Coliseum. They actually had 4,390 people at the game. The final game of that series with Oakland coming up with Brian Wu on the mound for the Mariners. Mariner baseball at 92.1 KCRK.
