It is also a college football Thursday in high school football Thursday. Joining us on the hotline is my broadcast partner for Longhorn football who will be joining me on that very, very early morning flight tomorrow to Michigan by way of Charlotte, by the way, KX and sports director Roger Wallace joins us, but you've got high school football happening first tonight. So your timeline for sleep is probably even less in mind. Yeah, it's light, but I want to point out that that can goes from, I don't remember the matchup to Craig Morton's stats that you love 2024. And integrate pull up everything in 30 seconds. And he does it quickly too. He pulls that up very, very quickly off the act. I don't think of the Raiders. When I hear that music and the John Fassenda for some reason. Well, you remember we played the one, yeah, we did the autumn win. We did that to open the show today with that. Yeah, yeah, that was a lot of fun off of that kind of thing. I don't think I've ever asked you this. When you were growing up in nestled in the bosom of suburbia there out there in Ohio, who was your NFL team? I was a weird kid, Craig. I was actually a Rams, a Raider fan when I was really young. Okay, and one reason was I was a big Kenny Stabler fan. Okay. And then, and then here's an odd name for you to latch on to Lawrence McCutchen number 30 for some reason I really liked him. But then most of my fandom was Joe Montana related, which was San Francisco because grew up Notre Dame fan. Yeah, he went to the 49ers and and that. In fact, Craig, I was at the last time I was at Michigan stadium was 45 years ago. Michigan Notre Dame, Notre Dame's Bob Crable blocks the field goal with a few seconds to go to preserve a 1210 win. Bob Crable from Mueller High School. Two years later, the Mueller High School head coach gets a Notre Dame job, Jerry Faust. Can you imagine that now? I can't even think about the fact that, you know, that Todd Dodge got to got a shot to be a college head coach straight from coaching it. It's out of the car when he went to North Texas and that kind of stuff just wouldn't happen today. You know, just wouldn't happen. No, but you know, he whistled the Notre Dame fight song on his bike when he did his paper route. That was, so, you know, why wouldn't they hire him as the head coach of Notre Dame? Not long after Montana led them to a national championship. Well, that's true enough. All right, so you, you have the advantage over all of us, because none of us, the rest of us have been inside of Michigan stadium. So you know what that atmosphere is like. Yeah, as, as our said today, it's a big building. It's weird because, and I'm, I'm sure you've seen, you've been there for basketball, I believe. Right. Yeah, right, you know, it's not very impressive from the outside. Right. Right. You know, in fact, they got in trouble because they used to carry students up and over and, and to the top of the arena, to the stadium rather. And you know, it wasn't like they were 14 floors above, above the ground or just, you know, 30 feet. But anyway, yes, I've been inside twice. I've been to two games, including that one pretty historic game back in the day. So looking forward to, to getting back there and like everybody else just looking forward to it. What should be a pretty special Saturday? Did the last Saturday's debut, the premier of your Texas game day program there was not only did you have Jonathan anchoring it, but obviously to have those special lifetime long warns like Alex Ocovar and Dan Neal joining Jonathan Thomas for that show. Everything are in. Yeah, everything went great. You know, first shows, you never know what to expect until you do it. Kind of like college football game where you don't get the preseason games, but went well. And then, you know, the early one this week. So hopefully people will get their fill of the two national pregame shows and then maybe, maybe an hour out of kick decide to flip over on KX and by the way, this week and check out the local pregame show and sample that as well. That's the other reason I wanted to get you on just to make sure that folks knew the programming grid because last week it was on KBV. Oh, but but this week because of the early kick, you're able to you're able to put it on the big one, right? That's right. That's right. And so that hopefully get your day started. And then I don't know if a lot of people have put together the prime time game on NBC is Colorado and Nebraska Colt McCoy making his network college debut. Just curious how Colt will be received in Lincoln, Nebraska going up there to do that. One second. When the, you know what, when the announcement came down, that that was going to be his first game. I'm sure you saw it. I saw it on social media about stuff. And they said, well, if cold is slow out of the gate, I'm sure they'll give him an extra second. You know, all this kind of stuff. Yeah, that was all all of that kind of stuff. Okay. But you got high school football starting off tonight. You and Keith Borland, right? Yeah, seven o'clock. We're going to be out of Captain Stadium. We've got Bowie and Vista Ridge, both, both coming off wins, both putting up points. Interesting what, what Vista did. They were down 21. Nothing to clean at halftime. And they lose and they win 31 21. So kind of found their footing in the second half. Bowie put up 60 against Maynard. So looking forward to that kick, which is at seven o'clock out of Gupton Stadium. Of course, you know, Bowie, the under Jeff Abel's one of the deans and 37th year as a coach at Bowie, 23rd as a head coach. And as you know, one of the great guys to work with and Chad Scott doing a nice job about it, Vista Ridge in his fourth year. Yeah. My daughter, of course, who is the associate director of the star's tippers. When I asked her about the game, she described it. And I quote, well, we sucked the first half, but the second half it was much better. So I said, I just better than I did off of that. And then the other thing I wanted to ask you about helped me sort through all of this now, because I've seen a lot of the promos and different in different programming. And as a person who, like many others at the moment is feeling a lot of, a lot of tension with the direct TV impasse with Disney. So I'm not getting ESPN right now. There's a, there's a little bit of a workaround that I kind of can kind of can work with, but it's, but it's higher maintenance. That sort of thing. I can't just flip all my TV while this impasse is going on right now. And that includes like in the mornings. So I'm used to getting up and being able to flip on the sports center, get up or one of those programs and watch and can't do that right now. And then I just accidentally stumbled on to on KBVO good morning football over time. The NFL network crew doing us doing the morning. Every morning. Well, that's amazing. I didn't even know that was going on. All of a sudden was like, whoa, what magic is this? That's the magic of next star broadcasting and the ability to put so many different things on when you have three channels. And so yeah, we, we often compete with ourselves sometimes with, with programming. Obviously this is not local programming, but it's kind of unique programming on every morning. So it's a good show. Obviously, like you said, it's out of NFL. So it's out of L.A. But yeah, that that debuted on on Labor Day. I just stumbled on to it the other day. I was like, Oh, okay. And I ended up watching it because we're asked to promote all the stuff that that airs. Obviously, you know, you want people to watch. But that could be a whole sports cast. All the things that we have between the three channels to promote. Oh, by the way, we've got Raven's sheaves tonight here on KXAN. Yeah. So I guess the other thing that mystified, I didn't know about this deal. You know, in the NFL network crew, they do their regular morning show. So this is just like an add-on that they get through syndication for next star. Is that how that worked? Yes. Yes. And then I think a lot of the CW channels for next star, Eric, but because we have local programming from seven to nine, we put it over on KBBO. So yeah, it's a it's, you know, because next star now owns the CW. So, you know, we've got a big push for the XFINITY series because of that. So this is a program where we're able to move it over to KBBO because we don't want to pre-empt our own local programming. Well, you can't pre you can't pre-empt that traffic and weather. I mean, that's that's not do it. That is a point. You and Keith, I'm telling you, it's appointment viewing. It's a first I DVR in case I oversleep or whatever. And then and then I'm watching it. So yeah, I'm I'm watching all the meteorologists that entire huge stable of meteorologists you guys have and watching all of that. And then you got Erica Brennis on traffic. And of course, she's married to Ricky Brennis who used to work with us. Now he takes care of the cow, you know, he's or he's in charge of the curb that takes care of Bivo. So there, you know, you're and I saw that one promo I finally got to see that promo where you're within what arms distance of Bivo and that was probably about as close as you could get. Yeah, we went out and did some promos with with Bivo and I don't know if I was wrong with you last week when I was asked about you get a little closer. No, I can't prefer to be at least enough room away where I can, you know, adjust in the in the crew wanted to kind of clown around with it maybe and put a cowboy hat on Bivo and all that stuff. No, no, no, no paraphernalia with sacred Bivo. Do not mess with the big guy when it comes to that kind of stuff. You know, you ask and you ask and you ask and you never know when you're going to be told no and they found out. Okay. All right. Finally, the only thing I was going to ask you, you do like I do like some of the others in the media do we we take advantage of all of the media opportunities to to to hear from SARC and then you have the extra thing because you sit down with him after that Thursday media availability with which had its its own comic moments at times this morning. But you you get a chance to sit down with with SARC right after that deals. He is he I would imagine he's probably in a pretty good humor at that point, especially coming off of that thing. Yeah, he yeah. Yeah, we're there for our for our pre game show pre game interview. And so yeah, he he likes the efficiency, you know, long word network as great as it was, it did occupy a lot of his time. And so I think he really is enjoying the efficiency of how the week is set up right now. So yeah, he comes to to me and we do a, you know, three, four, five minute interview for a pre game show. But yeah, he's a good spirits. But as you know, Craig, he is he's a guy that lives by the minute. So there there's not a whole lot of wasted time. And he walks maybe 25 feet from that zoom interview to us. And then he's you know, he's on to the next thing. But yeah, if and you know this as well as anybody, if you stop and you start talking a little bit about college football, he changes dramatically. Oh, man, that you know, because that's his wheelhouse. But yeah, so we have a chance to visit with him and we'll have that on the pre game show as well Saturday morning. All right, we'll look forward to that. Of course, you and I will be on the airplane and headed up there to and when we hit the ground and we get over there to to the big house and you got work to do right for for KXAN, right? Oh, yeah. Yeah, I'm not going to see the sites, man. I'm getting getting down the business. But it should be fun. It should be fun to be on campus. I mean, it's going to be a lot like last year. The buzz in Tuscaloosa, you know, two pre game shows there. And I'm sure campus is going to be be jumping. And my goodness, Craig, we're packing jackets tomorrow. How about that? Right. For folks who want to know Roger texted me and said, what's the attire? What are we going with? I'm like, how about usually this early in the season, we don't have to, you know, suit up quite yet. No, no, as we say, they did the 90 degree rules in play, you know, so we're wearing coaches, polos most of the time. And I said, how about sport coats and turtlenecks? Or I'd let you get turtle deck. So we'll maybe we'll break that out to on Saturday. Hey, I appreciate the time. I'll see you at the airport bright and dark, I guess in the morning. See you in the morning. Thanks, Craig. Thanks, Cam. There we go. Roger Wallace, they're dark and early is what I should have said, not bright and dark. Won't be bright. It'll be dark when we leave tomorrow. So that's that up next. We're going to hear more from long-winds head coach Steve Sarkees. And when we continue on sports radio, I am 13 under the zone in the IR radio app. Breaking news. And this one is almost unbelievable. Yeah, it's all about new customers at bed 365 because they get $200 in bonus bets when they bet $5 and even better bonus bets can be used on the spread totals and player props. There you have it. Bet $5 to get $200 in bonus bets and see why it's never ordinary at bed basis five. The gambling problem? Color text 1 and 100 gambler. 21 plus only. Must be physically located in Colorado. Terms and conditions apply.
