Well, there is one to give you the question is How many guys are on the injury report for Texas Longhorn football? Well, we're all quite aware of what happened back a few weeks ago at the start of the fall camp workouts With the knee injury that took CJ Baxter out for the entirety of this coming season same story with an Achilles injury for freshmen running back Christian Clark Fortunately, those are the only two season ending injuries Fortunately, those are the only two injuries of which to take note. There's been some guys get banged up a little bit during the scrimmage team, but Sarc said yesterday that everybody is a go for Saturday afternoon season opener against Colorado State And so that's good news and that is our DJC law injury update Very few injuries to report and that's a good thing as well Longhorn men's basketball coach Rodney Terry is getting his team ready for the coming season and He had a media availability today and coach Terry was asked first and foremost in this day and age of the transfer portal And coaches are asked about it at every turn the advantages the disadvantages the the ins and outs of it What has he learned about the portal? Yeah, I think again, you know the portal was, you know, we've always had transfers in college athletic, you know And now you have the the new the new lingo the portal You know as it's become known over the course of the last little give-a-take three four years You know, I think I think we've all have have learned and navigate through the portal. I think Even our governing body has as had to make adjustments time-frame, you know How long does it when does the portal start how long does this stay open? I know for you know for us, you know, we we started early a process and in And being able to manage the portal in terms of developing a database And in developing a formula that for us, you know From an analytical standpoint from a character standpoint You know trying to find out if he's the best fit for us in terms of what we do culture-wise Basketball-wise and things of that nature that all that matters to us when we when we when we're looking at a guy from the portal And so, you know, I think our staff's done a great job of of you know Identifying the right guys That that we try to go after in the portal And again, a lot of that's based on a lot of legwork that we've already done on iron in terms of The things that we use to measure You know, how a guy's gonna fit for us, you know, the the portal takeeth and the you know, and the portal give us to You know, the Longhorns are able to get Arthur Calumo had been that most recently at Kansas State and also At Creighton Kate and Shedrick from Virginia coming in that last year kind of weaver those guys and like we said it take it The way, you know Tyree's Hunter and Dylan Mitchell and what were those discussions like with those two guys before those two left at every season? You know, you're gonna sit down and you're gonna visit with every player in your program You're gonna sit down with every staff member in your program and you're gonna do a self-reflection of yourself likewise in terms of You know, what could I have done better this season? We're at what what are some of the things we did really well this season? What are some of the things that we could continue improve? To enhance our program to be at the level that we wanted to be and have the outcome that we wanted the end of the year And so, you know with that being said we sit down and we visit with every guy and see if you know, if he's happy here How much he improved here? Is this a place where he still sees himself wanting to be? Because at the end of the day if a youngster really wants to be there then he's gonna excel and he's gonna continue to do great things There so you assess all that at the end in terms of your your meeting and and that At the end of the day counted equates to to the retention board of it, you know, you may have that meeting Maybe another meeting with the youngster if there's still concerns about Some things that he may have had, you know in that meeting moving forward And then you go from there and you build your team from there You don't go straight to the portal. You have to know what you have returning In the guys that you have coming back before you able to build your roster out So once we were able to identify on who was coming back and the retention we were gonna have Then we started working on Trying to find guys that compliment our recruitment our recruiting class and the retention of the players Well speaking of the recruiting class Trey Johnson, one of the guys that folks are very very excited about but with all freshmen obviously There is a learning curve. How about the curve for Johnson? Well, you know what Josh? I think you know trades one of those guys that He's kind of an old throwback guy, you know, we have a guy like that, you know a few years back when I was here And I'm not like it in trade Johnson and say he's gonna be Kevin Durant But he has some Kevin Durant similarities in terms of he has a great work ethic for a young player You know, you know, he loves being in the gym I don't have to call Trey Johnson and say Trey come to the gym Tracy's coming to the gym on his own multiple times during the day and so he is one of those guys that has a has a very very How work ethic and loves being in the gym? So, you know when you're obsessed with it, then you have you have an opportunity to be pretty good at what you do But you know even that, you know, he's still a young player He's gonna have some growing curves and just like all young young players Kevin Durant had growth curves here At Texas as well even as talented players was as a freshman He's still he's still gonna have you know some freshman moments at time in terms of still growing whether that be from a Plan standpoint on the mental standpoint And just from a just deal growing as a young player and a young kid And and just a quick follow up the last time we talked to you was in in Florida We talked about Nick Cody, you know, you said you were optimistic that he might be ready like September ish What is his status right now? Robby? Yeah, you know what? We're we're going We're real cautious with Nick because Nick Cody has a high feeling of being a really good player in the future He has a he has a great basketball frame You know, he's a guy that he was one of those kind of a late bloomer a little bit So so his best basketballs were ahead of him So the last thing that we would we would we would not do here is rush him out to the floor too quick He had a significant injury. It wasn't wasn't one where you know, you just put him right back out in Holmes way So we we've been very cautious with him.
