Listen back to Paul Cooney, Mark Guidi and Andy Walker as they talk all things Scottish football.

This is the Gore ideal football show. Listen anytime, whatever you get, your podcasts. Call 08, 08 at 17, 17, 700. Two and a half months after the end of the Euros, we're back Scotland in action in a couple of hours time at Hamden. Let's hope there's a good crowd. As we get back into action, Poland in town tonight. 745k off, it's the Nations League. And look, all roads are going to lead hopefully to the World Cup. But Andy Walker is here, so too is Mark. We're going to take your calls 08, 08, 17, 17, 700. Scotland fans, what are you thinking? As you head to the big game tonight, we're just looking on Skyler as well. Andy and you can see Andy Robertson are skipper up against, none other than Robert Levin-Dovskate. And we've never beaten Poland at home in Hamden. Well, let's hope we can change that tonight. I think it's important, we go off to a good start. It's important to get there. I know it get the supporters back on side. I know Andy Robertson referred to, and I think that was spot on, because we did go to the Euros with a lot of optimism, with a lot of excitement, and we were let down a wee bit. So tonight, let's hope we can get a win, get off to a good start. It wouldn't be easy. Poland are always difficult opponents. We haven't beaten them, as you say. Mark, we lost our heads a little bit, didn't we, before the Germany game. Nearly everyone was saying, I think at least it draw tonight. And we got off to such a poor start. But that was then, there's been loads of chat about it, there's been the inquest. What are you thinking, journalistically tonight, as you get ready for a new campaign? A tough campaign. Tough campaign, Paul, Poland, tonight. Portugal, on Sunday, then we've got Croatia. To come, we've got 1-1 and 12. And what we need to make sure, as Steve Klatt needs to make sure, as it come the end of the run, but it's not 1-1 and 18. So we need to show something to make sure that we're in the right direction for qualifying for the World Cup in 2026, and it starts tonight. Paul, that's a bottom line that starts tonight. And we need to get the top now made back on side. A lot of them disillusioned after the Euros, particularly a final performance against Hungary. We need to do better. - And are you looking for any new faces tonight, guys? We spoke with Peter Grant last night and Barry Ferguson, any... What would you like to see Andy? - I think there'll be a couple of changes. We've got to remember it's a big game, it's an important game, and he will go with his tried and tested, I think, very much so. But I'd like to see players like Mike Johnson get a game. Maybe he's a right back, maybe Scotland play him a four. I'd like to see Ryan Gold as being a big campaign, almost, to bring him in. He's got some skill, he's got some ability. How will he do in a Scotland jersey alongside really good players and up against a tough Paul inside? And then I think you've got to go with your experienced guys, you know, guys like Gunn and Robertson and Christian McGinn, McTombany Gilmore, Dykes, these are all guys that have been over the course for Scotland and they've done it. And I know that the summer was a big disappointment, so I think a couple of changes, at least, I think that would be interesting for the fans to see. - Mark, and will he change formation? What do you think? - No, he didn't hear me. - Yeah, I, after the Euro's polydisappoint, I said, what he needs to do? Not necessarily by himself time, but to try something different ahead of the World Cup qualifiers, it's got your back four. Now, he's tried their back three, it's fine. I don't think I've got three good enough center halves to go back three, particularly in the end of the year. And you look round the score to center half Paul, hardly any of them are starting. Gran Hanley, Ryan Portis, Scott McKenna, they're not starting games, they're not selling this season. So I would go with a four, two center halves, picked two from Portis, McKennan Hanley to play tonight, Ralston Robertson, as your two fillbacks. Big problem as well, really, really missing Aaron Hickey. He was a miss at the Euro's. He's out again until, I think November, December, possibly longer. - And the same possibly longer, Mark? - Yeah, it's a long, it's a long, it's a big, big block in training, and we're too, so this would be him back. - A top player, Paul. You're losing Kean T on his way off the rest of the year. So, we're up against Steve Klax, up against it. So, to get a result in eight, Paul, against 11 Dofsky, lead, Poland, we will need to be on earth. A game, nothing less, we'll do tonight. - Andy Walker, you were a great striker with Celtic, and many other teams, and you played for Scotland as well. What do you admire about Robert Living Dofsky? There's a question. - Well, he's another one of those players who's good to more than 100 caps. It's his longevity. It's the fact that he wants to do it time and time again, no matter what the campaign is. He's been around all the top clubs. He's still doing it. He's scoring goals for Barcelona this season. I'm just full of admiration for guys like that who do the highest level. He got a penalty goal in the Euros, but wasn't a good performance from him, or his nation overall. But this is the start of a new campaign. He'll be fired up. It's a difficult tie for them, away from home. He is just absolute quality. I love watching him play. - You still watch strikers when you can. I know you're doing the game often for us, our own sky. You have to watch the whole match ahead at the weekend. What's that game? - Yeah. - You and Crocs. What a comeback. - The drama down here, Eudison was gay. But even watching players down there, Calvert Loon, whose ability in there is terrific. I know he's got a few England caps, but it's a bit different playing international football, and a lot of the Polish lads will be, Living Dofsky is the one that they look up to. I think in a similar way to when you get young, Scottish players coming along, he'll look up to Kieran Tierney, Andy Robertson, John McGinn, guys that have been over the course before, and are playing at really big clubs doing well in European competition. So that's where we're up against. I think it'll be a good game tonight. - Let's hear from the manager. He was speaking with the media yesterday about how Scotland can improve now. - Evolution, you used the word yourself, is evolution, not revolution. Obviously this time we have a significant number of injuries that has probably impacted my squad selection a little bit, which means I've had to dip down any scores under 21 squad, probably too many times, if we're being honest, because the under 21s also have a couple of very important fixtures coming up, but that brings us, that brings us on freshness. It's important, and I've mentioned it before, is it, do we respect the core group that have managed to qualify for back-to-back European tournaments? But then within that core group, you have to try and add a little bit more, and hopefully we can add something that makes us better. It's not going to happen overnight. It's not going to happen across the two games that we're going to play now, but I'm looking at this campaign in the Nations League and thinking, this is a chance to try and evolve the group so that when we do get to the World Cup qualifiers, we're in a better shape, ready to go again, and ready to qualify for our third tournament of our four. - And the captain Andy Robertson was speaking about, yeah, but what we've seen is a failure, and maybe it was in the Euros, but we have to put that behind us starting tonight. - Well, it has to be, that's our jobs. We've all had, I think if you look through the whole squad, we've all had disappointment in the past, whether that's getting beat in Cup finals, whether it's relegation, whether it's missing out in League titles, whatever it is, we've all had disappointment, and I think that's part and parcel of being a footballer. We have highs, but we also have lows, and I think the summer was a low for all of us, and of course it was, but we have to then move on from it. We have to now be, if we weren't positive, then it's pointless as being here. We have to believe in, okay, we might have some doubters again within our country, you know, we feel our country right behind us in the summer, and we get that they're disappointed in them. Now we have, now it's up to us, to try and drag them along with us again. For us to do that, we know we need to perform. We know there's now pressure on us to perform, and it's up to us to go out and do it, and that starts on Thursday. We've worked so hard to get in Group A in the Nations League, it's not been easy. You know, we've played games against Albania, at hand, and in front of 15,000 people, and now, you know, we're in Group A with, you know, three really good nations. So we've came a long way about it's up to us to now stay there, and it's up to us to compete at that level, and that's what we need to show now. - Mark, real determination there, and it needs to be now move on. - Yeah, I mean, it speaks very well. It leads the country well, and there are some drama again. Sportwell are the two, and they're full of emotion, they've apologized. They felt it more than anybody's so set in terms of what the players can do with the media or with the public. I think they've handled it well this week. Now, the hard part, Paul's in 90 minutes tonight. I don't know if it's a sellout or not tonight, how many turn up. You know, I think it's probably going to be a bit short. The only year ago, or beating Spain on such a high, beating Norway, so as Andy Robinson said that, we need to get them back. We need to get the fans back on side, and it starts tonight, but it's going to be a tough, tough game. Paul and didn't have a great euros, only one point, out of nine, but they were also in a tough group. But you look through their squad, Paul. You know, they've got Zelensky, into Milan. So, Chezna, the goalkeeper's a tire for him. He'll ask, okay, but he's been replaced by Skurutsky, who plays for Bologna. You've got Leven Dorsky. I mean, they've got top players, but don't forget. We've got Billy Gilman, Scott McTormany, who have just signed for Napoli. We've got guys ripping it up in English Premier League, so we've got a right good team as well, so go out there tonight and get a victory. I think you're going to sing there that one. We'll get John again. Could you sing it? I do, that seems a while ago, doesn't it? The early summer, yeah. The early summer, I mean, the optimism, the anticipation, the excitement, we were desperate to get there. The supporters were brilliant, but we just liked how we bit of adventure, didn't we? Yeah. John spoke early a week. He wasn't making excuses at all. In fact, he said he was asked, was fatigue a factor for everyone? Possibly, I think a lot of the players in the tournament and a lot of players surprisingly struggled. I mean, in just Scotland, a lot of players, but it's easy to say now and look for excuses to say. To say, "Oh, I was tired. "This is the reason that's the reason "sometimes you've just got to take it on a chin, "be responsible, and realize that it's just a negative plan." So I did think of it, and the weeks after, I thought, "Oh, I was knackered there." But then when you look back every morning, waiting up to go and play for Scotland, then I made your tournament, I couldn't have had more energy and enthusiasm and adrenaline for it. So that would just be an excuse, I think, in something these days that I got to try and get used to. I think this season could potentially be a six-day-plus match season again, so something that I've got my eye on. I've been able to do certain things differently. And next summer, when the Scotland Games come around, hopefully be a bit fresher in the mind. Andy, great enthusiasm there, and I love the fact he said, "But I was waking up in the morning thinking, "I'm playing for Scotland." Yeah, and that is just the passion that you want to see. Just the level of excitement that we all had is just a little boy. You wanted to win, you wanted to play with your favourite team, you wanted to do well for your teammates when you get to that level, you wanted to do well with the supporters. He just brings all those very natural things that footballers want to do, and it oozes out of him. You see it in the way he plays every time. Looking forward to it tonight, guys, match itself. I do like the international football. I know that a lot of, you know, supporters of just their own club, they hate the break. I've got to say, I like the international stuff. Barry Ferguson was quite happy about it last night. He made no apologies. And for Rangers fans after the weekend, we haven't mentioned it yet. Mark and I started on Monday night in the programme with Barry, there were so many calls. Is he on the phone? Just now, do you want him on? Yeah, it could be, there's a lot of calls coming in just now. Because it is, because domestic football is, you know, it's the lifeblood of the game here, especially in the West of Scotland, they love it. But when Scotland are there to where the dark blue must be, very special, Mark, something that most of us never managed to achieve. No, again, the studio here who played for Scotland, represented these country, played for these boyhood team, one of the most famous seasons in South Victoria this afternoon, yeah. So, yeah, listen, it's very special. Me personally, Paul, I'm not a great fan in the Nations League. That said, the best thing about it is it gives you a sort of second chance to qualify for a major tournament, as we did before with the penalty shootout. Again, say a bit a few years ago. But for me, I look upon these six games between now and end of November, as D-Clack correcting the wrongs from the Euros, so that come March when we start the World Cup qualifiers for America in 26, that we're in a better place than where we sit right now, because there's a lot of despondes here just now, there's a lot of negativity, the feel-good factor that was just there three months ago has completely disappeared. And then we're questioning some of our top players, and we're good enough. So, this is a chance to go and try one or two things to experiment. But that said, can't lose games, 1-1 in 12, 1-1 in 18, I don't think it'll be acceptable from the Tottenham. Yeah, he talks about his core groups. I think he will go with the majority of players that we're all familiar with, but it's not going to be easy, even Paul and tonight, and then you've got Portugal in our next game, you've got Croatia. These are all international teams that are way above us in the rankings. We will do well to finish in the top two. I think the media conference was about 45 minutes late, starting yesterday, I think the media were. And not too pleased when Steve Clack then arrived. I don't know, Mark, but just listening to it, it doesn't sound as upbeat at all as it was before. Now, Stevie Clack doesn't get too high when things are great, hopefully not too low either. But do you know what sends media-wise? It's kind of, there's a bit of cat and mouse going on on some of the questioning. I mean, the media are there to ask questions after a campaign that disappointed. I think Steve Clack, first of all, has been a brilliant Scotland man. He's got his two major tournaments, because you want to look at that. All we do is mourn when we never got there. You know, what Smith tried, Alec McLeese tried, Gordon Stracken tried, George Burlick did, Levine bit, they've all tried and never managed to do it. And Steve got his only two major fouls. So for that, we're forever thankful. However, I think he should have been more upbeat. I think he should have given more explanations in terms of how he saw the euros. Just, you know what, you know, I just wondered for me, why did you not put James Forest on the last 15 minutes? I don't know if anybody's asked on that. That was just some for me. Again, it's hungry. We things like that. So, and at the moment, it looks as though there's been almost a breakdown in the relationship between the media and Steve. And that's something that really should try and repair. It's not the be on air while it ends all handy, but it's an important part. You know, I don't think they're difficult questions. I don't think they're too probing. What was the story about a James Forest? Is he not fancy putting them on? What about substitutions that we bit earlier? Do you think that was maybe something you could have done, or even just a general approach? Could we have had a wee bit more adventure, especially when things weren't going for us? Look at all the other teams, are we a bit more adventurous than us? Why was that? These are questions that you'll debate with your family friends when you're talking about the purpose. You're not trying to battle anyone, sure. I sometimes wonder who advises them. It's interesting, maybe, Mark, we could speak to somebody tonight. But how do you advise managers? I read something yesterday that Steve Clark has almost revered. And he should be in many ways, right? He's taken us to two tournaments. You're right. But who at the SFA is trying to help there to say, "Look, with the media, let's not take them on there. "I'll give you another example. "It ranges after the weekend, three-nil defeat." And, you know, Rangers fans more than anyone have said, "This isn't, we're miles off it." But the manager gave the... And Phillip Clark's got a lot going from his one, three titles in Belgium, absolutely. But to say, oh, look at the stats, they're almost the same, the possessions, the same. It's somewhere people who are really good at their job, but need help with the media presentation, because the chat afterwards, apart from Graham Sunnis on TalkSport, where Graham, it says opinion, but he saw it very differently from most Rangers fans. Yeah, I think Philippe Clemon's messaging in Sunday has reviewed over the 90 minutes was miles off at Paul. And you can't insult the intelligence of the supporters. You can't do that because it's just not acceptable. But he's messaging Paul. You look at it for the past few months. It's been all over the place, you know, a moral victory against Celtic 3-3. Now, you've got to be without the thing, 'cause we're still in the title hunt, but on reflection, you beat Celtic that day. I think Rangers were the one in the league at home. So he said, five attempts. He has to beat and sell to it. Again, I don't get it. 'Cause people mourn about the look that say Celtic getting 3 million quid for Mikey Johnson, and Rangers are struggling to get 500 grand for Todd Cantwell. Now, when you ostracize publicly toward Cantwell and make it clear that he's acting away and you'd want him at the door, whatever it may be, you weaken your bargaining position. So clubs aren't they daft? What did they do again? Do they learn from it? No, what does it say in the game again, Seth? Janice Haggie, no chance. We'll not feature what you're doing. You're weak and you're bad in the position again. And you're lumped with the 20 grand, the weak wagers that they're trying to get rid of. So we think that's in, what is going on? Has he been told internally? Is he defying the internal message? Who knows? Apart from how it goes in the 90 minutes in the Saturday, off the part, how he's handling the media, for me, he's got a lot of improvement. I think he could do some good advice. I do feel for him in one aspect. I mean, he was sold a dummy. He was told that there was a lot more behind the scenes than there actually was. And he's admitted as much. And so things have had to change. But listen, I've said it many times, I played in a struggling Celtic team under Tommy Burns. And we finished fourth one season, but I think what Tommy had for him was we could go to high brooks and win. We could beat Rangers at Hamden. Now we didn't win the league, but the supporters were behind Tommy. They wanted him to do well. I think in general, they could see he was making progress. And I think this is what Philip Comeont has to come up with. He has to come up with a big performance again, Celtic. If he's still in a job become the turn of the year, you have to put a team on the park that can beat Celtic next time you play in the league. And some of those, some of the chat after the game, it was just embarrassing. And if he was ever to leave Rangers, you will remember these quotes as saying that that was the beginning of the end. Of course. O8, O8, 17, 17, 722 minutes past five were addressed to back to the old firm Derby, the Glasgow Derby at the weekend won by Celtic, because that's been what people have been talking about, the Celtic fans really enjoying it, with lots of Celtic colors the other night and Rangers colors as well. And there wasn't that much disagreement between them. Some of the Celtic fans were saying that actually they feel, and it wasn't with any irony or gloating. They were saying, yeah, it's not what he thought it was going to be, but don't say moral victory. I know that was months ago. Paul, you remember, I think I was in with Barry last week, and he asked me for a prediction. And I said, you can see the gap already, I think, and it's not going to be a close title race if you're going to get one. I can only see Celtic being pretty ruthless, pretty relentless. When all is said and done now, the window was pretty good. I know you've lost your best player of last season, but I think everyone is excited by the business that's been done. And even when you look at the likes of Paulo Bernardo and the way that he played at the weekend. - What did you feel? - Well, I thought he was exceptional. I thought he was outstanding. And to be as involved, to be as dominant as he was, to be as energetic as he was, I thought, God, there's the player that everyone thinks he could be. So that gives you a level of excitement. Luke McCown, he's been so good for Dundee. He's going to get an opportunity to shine. And I think he'll obviously get the backing of the Celtic support. He'll want him to do well. - Listen, there's a lot on tonight. Tony Daugherty's been speaking about his former captain saying, listen, he's not there to be a jersey filler. This is a player of substance. And it's the find maybe of the transfer window. - I saw you want, Paul, just to have an opportunity and he's got that now. - For a million pounds. And he was senior outfit that you were. It costs the best part of that. But Rangers fans are not happy. So we'll still take some calls tonight if we're still up for that as well and for Scotland. 'Cause here's an example of it. The manager, Stevie Clark, was asked, well, the story about Shay Adams, the word in Italy was that he wanted to settle in. Yeah, I get that as well. But the manager said, no, no, no, he's not fit. - I can probably get you the email. But if you want, I've not got it on me just now, but there was an official email came from Torino saying that you had injuries that you picked up in the games, tie in D. And they asked for him to be thrown from the squad. - And he's got that email. - Injury, the club informed us on Saturday morning that you picked up a knock in the game. The conversation we shared then is does he come across to be assessed and sent back to Italy, it was no point. So that's where he misses out. By the same talking to two boys from Celtic who played at the weekend coming on Sunday night, get assessed by our medics and sent home boot 'cause it's easy because they're in Glasgow. So no big drama on that one. - And Mark, you can understand though, there's no point she had him coming from Italy. You have to take it at face value. - Let's say the man's just telling you, he's not going to tell lies, Paul. They will not tell lies because it's so easy to be, to be tripped up or to be, you know, to be noticed, there was an email, you know. So no, a dope boot, a beautiful sec, he's been honest there. And that's what it's all about. There's your exploration. What do you like it and knows up to you? That's the facts of the matter. Yeah, and I'm not fair enough to travel. The two Celtic boys turned up assessed, sent home withdrawn from the squad. Oh, wait, oh, wait, 17, 17, 700, Andy Walker. And Mark, we did. - This is the Go Radio Football Show. Listen anytime, whatever you get, your podcasts. - Let's go. - Andy Walker smiling, so that's a collectors item there. Not at all, Andy in top form. That was some game you saw at the weekend, but we're not Liverpool Radio, where Glasgow was on. The Go Radio Football Show was Scotland's number one, and you're not in the veteran class yet, Mark Greedy. You're still playing 5s and 7s. - I'm still a veteran though. - Are you still playing? Any chap of Chris Boyd then, is he okay after the weekend? - He never played in the game. - He choose they had a prior engagement. - It gives me, sorry. - Yeah, but like the export from the heart on Sunday and Andy's worked very closely with Chris over the years and whatever supporters think of himself, those supporters think of him, whatever. He speaks from the heart and sometimes he'll get too carried away, but he's saying the right things and he couldn't really disagree with anything. He said, I think if you disagree with him from Rangers point of view, then you're in denial. - We'll come back to it shortly. Let's go in the lines, Andy, ready? Josh is on. Josh, good evening. Welcome to Go Radio. - You all right, lads. We're okay, I'll just go with you. - Hey, Josh. - Hey, Josh. - Where are you, Josh? - I'm calling from witness, which is nearly the pool. So I'm a big fan of the Scotland team, not a college forward, Scotland. - Oh, brilliant. - So the points that I want to make concern, obviously, the manager, Steve Clark. I personally believe that he deserves an opportunity to write the wrongs. I think it was an example of a qualifying campaign in terms of the results he garnered against Spain, against Norway. Like the optimism was built through the team, wasn't it? Then unfortunately, when it came to the tournament, I happened to believe the actual group was more difficult than what people thought. But it was. So you had a rampant Germany. You had a Switzerland team that took England to penalties and went quite far within the tournament itself. So there are mitigating factors. I just think we need to see a sort of tweaking of the style now. We need to see the next generation of Scottish talent coming through, which is probably what it's trying to do with the team selection itself. Trying to look at what else is available. They've had a massive, you know, columns with retirement in the midfield position. It's a big position to fill, isn't it? But I just hope that with time and with a little bit of patience, we can understand that this promotion in the nation's league was obtained by Clark and his style and his performance is through that qualification campaign. That's a really strong point you make for, to remember the history and in what he's done. What would you say to Josh? I don't think there'll be a great deviation away from what Stevie Clark knows. He will have learned, of course, a little bit about himself and about his players during the tournament process when you have to get a win. Maybe you have to be a wee bit more adventurous, especially when you've already lost the first game heavily and drawn the second game. I thought we were decent in the second game against Switzerland, but Hungary was the biggest disappointment. I think tonight we have already heard from Stevie Clark. He talks about the court group. So I think you know that he's going to go with the players that he knows really well. But I would like to see a bit of freshness. You know, I've mentioned Max Johnson, maybe Ryan Gold. I think Mark came up with one or two other names. I think there will be a couple of fresh faces just to see how it goes because all of these, all of the players in the squad have got good ability, but he is cautious by nature. Look at the way he set up commandment when they finished third in the top flight. They were cautious. They didn't lose many goals. And that he got success that way. He's not going to suddenly be all guns blazing, Mark. Yeah, I think Andy will say that. And I've said it many times in the show, Paul, if you want to refer him back to the commandment team, why he got offered the Scotland job, why he got offered the Rangers, or were certainly was invited for talks, the Rangers. They were cautious. They were solid. Back at watch commandment 15, 20 times. Actually, they also entertained. You know, it's Stephen Adon on Greg Taylor flying forward. You'd Chris Boy, you're good attacking midfielders. So they were a really good team. But on the point that Josh makes, yeah, look, Steve, Steve Clark, it went wrong in the Euros, but it's a chance to go and make up for it. I think what you've got to do tonight, Paul, is get the supporters excited again, get them an edge of the seats. How do you do that for me? Play Ben Doak tonight. 'Cause he's a guy that can carry the ball. He can dribble, he can entertain. Now he might lose it once or twice, but that's a gamble. I think that Steve Clark has to make tonight. So I'd certainly have Ben Doak and my starting lineup, get the ball to him and go and let him create chances. 'Cause part of the problem in the Euros, we didn't create enough chat. I think we get six corners in three games. - Two or three shots in target, the goal we scored was... - Middle to four, we were poor. - Yeah, so go and get a wee bit of excitement. Go and get a bit of a buzz going. I've watched Ben Doak live for Liverpool. He can create a buzz. He is a big, big talent, and he can go and make things happen. - I thought we'd reach the stage where, actually, we were getting such good results. When we played at Hamden, the crowd were already in a great atmosphere. 'Cause we were a winning team. A winning nation, we seemed to be taking on all comers and having a good result. Tonight, I think it's down to the team to, you know, serve something up so that the supporters can really enjoy it. And that means his marks are leading to their just, just good attack and play. - Josh, you'd fancy seeing Ben Doak tonight. He's got his move, low and move to Middlesbrough. So I really decent more than decent. It's a big club in the championship. You'd like to see him tonight? - Well, don't you think that's a counter-argument? He actually hasn't actually played a lot of football, I think you'll look at the team that went to the Euros. You've got real quality to actually Jon McGain, Billy Gilmore, Andy Robertson and Mitchell. So I want to see Robertson bombing on creating the opportunities. I want to see his pushing up that little bit further. Like the lads have alluded to the playing style being a little bit cautious. We need to try and open it up a little bit, play through the midfield, play with, whip and attacking for it. And of course, we have leverage, wind and dikes or our craps, shank them through that middle. We've got to feed them, we've got to get people playing often. 'Cause it's all right, we'll open the ball forward, but you need the likes of again, I'm going to need to be hungry and feed on the knockdown. That's which evident in that Spain game that I've mentioned in the Norway game, as well, people pushing forward beyond the striker in creating chances. - Let me check Andy, who's going to be the striker tonight? Who do you think he will go with? - I think he'll go with dikes. I'm excited by Mark's, you know, wanting to be in Dokan. I'd love to see him in a Scotland jersey. My goodness, I'd love to see him in a Middlesbrough jersey. I'd just love to see him playing football because we all know he's got the potential to be so exciting. So he's hoping it works out for him at Middlesbrough. But just listening to Stevie Clark and talking about the core group, I think he's going to probably restrict his start in the living just to maybe a couple of changes. So we'll see how it goes. - Barry had him in his lineup last night. He said, I don't think this will be the lineup, but he would have been Dokan and his team. - I think he'll come on, maybe 20 minutes, haven't he? - Josh, I'm fascinated why you chose Scotland. And we're absolutely delighted. And he's a Scottish international player. Mark's been round the world at World Cups and Euros and all the rest. Not enough of them, though, until recent years. How did you kind of adopt Scotland? - Sure, I've been a massive fan of Everton for years. So I'd like to change your fad in playing forward to your peers from within that media spectrum now talking about his past experience to play in Everton. I've seen him score some world-class goals for Everton, notably against Charlton. When you flick the ball up, like above the defend, the Zeddon smash one in. - And the ball against France. - The goal against France in your own qualifiers was just unbelievable. So I've grown up watching these Scottish players, Stephen Naysmith being another lump. He scored a hat-chick against Chelsea. I remember that vividly. He always shot a new way to go. He was really working the like, but he had that M chord up as well. - And he's in passing, isn't he, the moment, Josh? - Yeah, massive ball for Everton because I, in order to respect to us, the young and the share must call them, but they're not exactly getting any younger at it. So we're kind out for the replacement. And I think part of them with the time and being nurtured and blended into that too. He proved that it was dangerous, didn't he? He's got that raw potential. And in terms of getting back in the Scotland team, there's a massive ball being left to right back at the moment, isn't there? - You want to hear the bonus game, how are you, Josh? - Unfortunately, well, fortunately or unfortunately, I wasn't there, but with five minutes to go, I thought we've got the job done. We actually played well through your minutes there and then. - Yeah, Andy was doing the game. Yeah, on Sky, listen, it was unbelievable. Listen, there are a poster there. We hate to say this when somebody's in a job and Sean Deitch is at your beloved Everton, but there's a ground well of support for David Moyes, who was such a brilliant manager. Would you, how do you feel about that, Josh? I mean, Sean is still the manager and may well turn it round. - Well, Sean, Sean's done really well, given the points, deductions, we had last season under external factors and the premises that he's focused on, the limited resources. There's been many other managers that could have probably done a similar job. But yes, I understand the frustration that's building. The match going fans are paying our money to watch capitulations like that on Saturday. There is going to be that uncertainty around the job, but I've always got this thing about never go back. I mean, David went back to West Ham and he won the European show for granted, but I'm Brendan's gone back to Celtic and done similar things, but I just think nine times out of 10, you've got to move forward as a football club, you've got to have new ideas, fresh impetus, new ideas, but Sean at the moment has got my fall back and he's turned it around like he's got a reputation for building teams from the bottom up with Anthony. - Good man, and Walter Smith came back to Rangers and his success as well. But you're right, that's the rule we do see, don't go back. Final point from you, and it's great to hear you, Josh. What's your prediction tonight? - Well, in terms of the prediction, I mean, Poland didn't have a great year or should I have about these people? That's one of the best strikers in world football. But it's similar to what I've said to you before about feeding that striker. I mean, it's all I would have an input. I think the end product from Poland's got to be a bit better in the same way that maybe Scotland's asked to as well. It'll be a nervous game, of course, because the pressure's on Stevie as well, isn't it? Because he doesn't start getting results. There'll be people on their decolon for example, there'll be more sort of amplified draw on it. So it's important they start tonight with at least a decent performance and perhaps a clean sheet. And then if they can, it won on the break, all the better. So I'm going to go for a one-mill Scotland win. It's trying to keep it positive for them. - Well, take that, Josh, that would do us, Josh. Josh, thanks a million for calling. And actually, we spoke a few moments ago about, you know, managers and the media and how we handle it. And Mark has been on the phone and the last five minutes was sorted. Adrian Bevington's going to join us. Big name in English football. One of the leading lights, as you know, Josh, at the FA as he was. He was also, he worked with, well, quite a number of them. Capello, who was there. - Yeah, it's been going out, it's been going out. - And so he's going to join us to speak about, well, a number of things. So that's going to be after the break. Listen, we're up for the game tonight. We hope you enjoy it. We'll still get time to get there. If you can still get tickets, it's not going to be a sellout, but it's important. And Mount Florida station is gonna be really busy this evening, Scotland against Poland. 745 elsewhere, just the usual hotspots. M77 southbound delays between plantation and Dunbrecht Road. M77 elsewhere, let me just check. M74 northbound, slows your head for the Kingston Bridge. Busy, but moving, close that expressway. Tail to tail is your head for the ancient cross turnoff. And Dunbrecht Road, Scotston, slow as you head between the Kingsway and the close that expressway. Otherwise, things are looking pretty good. This Thursday evening. Match day for Scotland, playing Poland tonight. Living Dofsky is in town. The team bus will be arriving shortly. We'll give you the team news, but we reckon that London Dikes will start up front for Scotland. Mark Gudy is here, Scotland's top pundit. Andy Walker, former Scotland star, and too many clubs to mention. And we mentioned in the first part of the programme about Scotland and the hangover, you know, the post-mortem, which has only happened in the last week when Steve Clark came back. He spoke with players earlier, but it's not the mood that we would have expected, Mark. Would that be fair to say in the nation? The way we went into the tournament in June, the bubble was burst a bit. But how did Scotland cope now? Yeah, I mean, the Tottenham and the Scotland fans are deflated. We need to move on now, Paul. The Euro has gone, it was disappointing. But this is the start of a new campaign tonight. It's important for Scotland in the next six games between now and end of November. It's important for Steve and the players to get the Tottenham way back on side and go and get some positive results. But it won't be easy because Portugal, Spain, and Poland are our top sides. I teased it just before the break, and I'm delighted that Adrian Bevington is joining us, one of the big names from, well, was at the FA, one of the leading lights there, worked with Sven, worked with Capello, Roy Hodgson, but also at Villa, Middlesbrough and other places. Adrian, it's great you've joined us tonight. Good evening, welcome to Go Radio. Good afternoon, sorry guys, how are we doing? - Yeah, good, thank you. Yeah, we're not a little bit apprehensive about the game tonight, and we're also just chatting as you head there about the context of it for Scotland. You've been through this with England after a campaign that wasn't what the nation expected. What do you feel for Scotland tonight and any advice for Stevie Clark and the team how to manage it? - Yeah, I mean, listening to that discussion now has been going on for a while now. I totally relate to it. I've been through that Kevin Teigen after Euro 2000. Sven, you're on Ericsson, even though we lost the penalty shoot out in the quarter finals in 2004, there was still a bit of pressure floating around when we kicked off the next campaign. Capello, obviously after a very disappointing World Cup in South Africa in 2010, and that was simply Roy Hodgson after a very poor Brazil World Cup in 2014. I'm trying to get a feeling for the relationship between the federation and the coaching staff, the head coach in particular. That's really important. But then after that, it's really distancing yourself down, taking the positives that you can from any tournament where you have the build up to it or what you can take on and build from that. But then after that, it's about getting the morale high again, keeping everyone together, and you've got to start using the public, who, as I think Marcus just said, they're disappointed and flat after some of the performances in the Euros, despite the great achievement in getting there, it's now getting results back on the pitch. And you've got to start tonight, lift people, inspire people in front of a big crowd, and a strong opponent in Poland, but you've got to get back on traffic then. - But also, as we're leading, as you said, there are some disappointing campaigns under Fabio, and Kevin, less extent, maybe we spent, but I think we say for you guys, stop by and manage and give the next campaign is what it's SFA, I have done here with Steve. Can you understand the logic in that? 'Cause sometimes it's just too easy to make a change for the sake of change. - I think the one that stands out to me would be with Fabio Capello when I think most of the English public and certainly in the media, we would've wanted him to go after the South Africa World Cup. We didn't at that point feel that we had an obvious replacement for him. And importantly, qualified as so comfortably for the World Cup in South Africa, having not previously qualified from the Steve McLaren. So we invested by sticking with Capello for the next campaign, and we came through that very comfortably. Now, in the end, there was a sudden departure from Capello ahead of the tournament. But in hindsight, from my perspective, I'm not sure that was the worst thing in the world at the time because Fabio hadn't really enjoyed a great tournament in South Africa and there was no guarantee it was gonna be any different for the euros that followed. And when Roy came in, it kind of gave us a bit of a bounce going into that tournament. So it's really in the real particular time when Keating came out of Euro 2000, after a very disappointing tournament there, he was backed again to go the next campaign. But then he resigned after a defeated Germany. And I've got to say, the mood around everything building it, that game was really, really tense. And it didn't feel great. And it was probably the right decision. - Adrian, it's Andy Walker here. I'm wondering what you think about, we listened to Steve Clark last week and he was getting asked a lot of questions. And he spoke about one of the reasons that he would continue was he would honor his contract. He was given a contract and he wants to honor it. And I think that is to be expected. But I wonder from your point of view, from behind the scenes, when you feel as though the morale is low or you feel as though the manager can't enthuse the supporters, the fans, how do you go about making a change? - Well, I think it's a really good point, Andy. And I notice, yeah, he signed a contract to 2026, which I think Steve had earned the right to have that contract with qualified for two tournaments with Scotland. But clearly, when there's been a tournament that has not given you what you want, the mood is flat. And it's just assessing it continually. I would, it would appear from afar that there's a very good relationship between Steve and the SFA. You know, his win percentage is pretty strong in comparison to most other respected Scotland national team coaches. But obviously, you know, as much as you want to back a coach when you're in a leadership position, whether it be a federation or with a club, ultimately the results will dictate how long you can support a coach. Because if results don't go well over a period of time, the public or the fans will turn. And when they turn, we all know it's very difficult to sustain a coach during that period. Now, strong leaders back their managers as long as they can. But you have to get results at some point to keep people with you. - For sure. I mean, he deserves the chance for this campaign. But they've got to get up and get the mood up and be more optimistic, Mark, just listening to it from that media point of view. It's been a little bit chippy. - Yeah, yeah. It starts tonight, you know, winning, but it's all that matters. It can cover a multitude of sins when you're winning games of football, when you don't win. And for example, Scotland don't win tonight. It's going to be really tense getting into this game against Portugal away from home and the study they'll lose in Lisbon and Sunday. So we need to show something positive tonight. Needs to make one or two changes. Just freshen it up and show that, you know, that there's a willingness there to go and do that. And I hope for Steve Sake, for the Tottenham, 'cause they deserve a lot of them paid thousands and thousands of pounds to be in Germany in the summer for two or three weeks. So they deserve a resumthing and I hope it starts again tonight. 'Cause tonight, albeit, it's not the be on end all, the process to get the World Cup starts next year. But this is when it does start. This is about what you've got ahead of getting to 2026. - How close are Adrian, are you to the goings on? It's got his football clubs and all the politics that we have up here. - Look, I'm someone who's followed the, and does follow the Scottish game very closely. Watch as much Scottish football, certainly the Premier League up there. As I do, English football, to be honest with you, Andy. And I really enjoy it, you know, I think you've got a lot of very good young in the, that are interesting at the moment, coming throughout the game there and obviously playing in other parts of the UK and around Europe now. But likewise, you know, best in watching the performance of, you know, everything that's been discussed about ranges at this moment in time, where there's just so much noise and news around the club on so many levels, to looking at, you know, clubs like Hibernian and Hart, who are not where they would want to be at this juncture. But then on the flip side of that, you know, the incredible... - The lane's just gone a bit strange there. Adrian, we just lost you. I think you're back now. I mean, you know, we're, the voice of Glasgow and the West here, EarthFonin has been jammed all week after Celtic Wellington, you know, at the weekend. Every Rangers fan says it's got to be better. What's happening at the club? Do you need a CEO? You've got a CV second to none. And they do listen. Could they attract you to iBrucks? Would you come? Would you come to Scotland? - Well, I've got a very good job at the moment with a leading German football agency that I've been doing for two years. But look, you know, Scottish football, I've made no secret of the fact over many years that I would at some point in my career always be interested in working in Scotland. I think it's an incredibly passionate football country. And I've got a great deal of respect for the game up there because of the fan base. You know, you've got so much to build on there. But Rangers of football club is such a huge football institution. It's a global club. Obviously, they're not happy with the situation that they're in at the moment. The fans are definitely not happy. I've been following it very, very closely and clearly they were well beaten at the weekend by a very strong Celtic team. There's a lot of pressure flying around there. What I would say is whoever, whoever the chief executive is going to be for Celtic has got to be someone who can show real leadership. Communicator. They've got to have a real good understanding of the game and the industry, knowledge of the transfer market. Yes, they've got to be commercially strong to increase the revenues. But ultimately, I think they've got to have football industry now and a real common sense and the ability to work with relationships. If you've got all of that, you have a chance. But it's still a very demanding, difficult job for whoever that person may be. Yeah, I mean, it's a lot of boxes to tick Adrian, but all the points that you've mentioned, thank everybody, all Rangers supporters. It's key that whoever the new chief executive has, whoever replaces James Bizgrove, has got to have all that in the locker. Well, I think that the club like Rangers with the stature that they have in the game, and even though they're going through a challenging period of this moment in time, Rangers football club should be able to attract someone who has, you know, that stature and the ability to lead from the front, but also have a real good understanding of how the industry works and a great network of not just contacts, but relationships with people right throughout the game in Scotland, obviously, but also in UEFA, at the European Club Association. You know, there are people within Celtic who obviously have many of those relationships already. And, you know, Rangers should be expecting similar. Adrian, great to hear from you tonight. Thanks for taking our call. We'll see you in Glasgow in a couple of weeks, Adrian. Thanks, guys. Great to see you. Thanks very much. Adrian Bevington joining us, a man with, well, he's watched at the FA for a number, a decade, there wasn't a year ahead, with Keegan's Fengor and Erickson. Actually, we probably just said to him as well, because there were so many great tributes to Sven Goran. Erickson has sad death last week, but you know, we do need people with that really experience advising the clubs or the national team. Well, maybe we do have that. Yeah, I mean, you know, in general terms, any CEO or any, you know, leader in their game, whether it be their SPF, their safety, and each of all those things, Paul. And relationships are so important. That's an area that Rangers need to improve on, you know, just in domestic football and beyond, you know, build relationships, build friendships. You know, don't make enemies. It comes in life too easy anyway. You know, to attract it. So you'll try and be the opposite. But as I said in Monday night, Paul, the four key things that Rangers need to address very, very quickly. And that is getting a Chief Executive and the building someone to go and run the football club for John Bennett and the board and go and run it well. You know, something that knows each stuff inside out. It's three months since James Bizgrove, headed on the flight to the Middle East. That's quite a long time now, isn't it? And it can't all be down to John Bennett and the board. You know, you need a strong Chief Executive. Yeah. To be honest, Paul, for a club the size of Rangers, not to have a Chief Executive in place. It's not good enough, you know, and that's part of the reason why the supporters are so angry. 'Cause like I said, when you're not winning games, everybody goes right under the bonnet. They look under the bonnet and that's one key role that needs to be filled and filled well. We're going to look under the bonnet at the squads that have been announced by Celtic last night, I think, for the Champions League and Rangers for the Europa League came out today. One or two surprises, not too many, mainly from the Rangers squad. And also countdowns on. We'll have the team news soon for Scotland against Poland. This is the Gore Radio Football Show. Listen live weeknights from five on go. Let's go! This is the Gore Radio Football Show. Listen anytime, whatever you get, your podcasts. Call, await, await at 17, 17, 700. Let's go, go, go, go. Scotland are back in action tonight against Poland. Awake, await, 17, 17, 700, the number two call. Andy Walker is here, who's won the dark blue of his country. And Marguerite, who's reported on us around the world. And remember, Stevie Clark's taken us back to two major tournaments. I mean, that moment, let's go. Major of each penalty, save. I don't know why I do the English accent. Um, I'm just gonna just call my team. I don't know. Clive Toesley. Clive Toesley, isn't it? We'll never forget that, Andy, won't we? One of the great moments. And, you know, I mean, I wasn't a recognising national player, but I always remember coming on, it was the Rose Cup end of the season. And we played Colombia. And they were Carlos Valderama, if you remember him. Oh, yeah. Beautiful here. I think we turned ghost. No, it was a before him. Yeah, do you know what I mean? Can I remember? But, you know, it was Eric Black had come off on and on and partnered Mo Johnson up front for half an hour. And, yeah, it was great. Happy days. Yeah, Mo Johnson scored against Paul and just getting people ready for the match as you head for it tonight. It just means I've got the people here in front of me if I can find it. Funny Davis, I think that's what you said. Oh, it's a matter of fact, I think Davis. Funny Davis. Um, yeah, so Mo Johnson scored for Scotland in 1990, friendly. Just before the World Cup, we were one up. And then near the end, Gary Gillespie loved the goalkeeper. But it was our keeper. It was the late great Andy Gorham, OG11. Scotland 2, Paul and 2, how about this one? October 2015, Euroqualifier, got in striking and charged. We needed the victory. But it ended up 2-2. Just wasn't enough in Robert, Livin' Dowsky. The Skipper. I mean, Scott Brown scored the annual score. Remember, annual? Oh, I'm just checking where you're going. Yeah, come here. You take it and go to Germany, wait a year. Is it too young, maybe? That's what I'm thinking. You're talking on yourselves? Yeah, indeed. Well done, it'd be great, I'll be careful. And then we played them 2 and 1/2 years ago, March 2022. As you remember, I remember it because I've got the record and the sun here in front of me, 1-1. And the Fiorentina striker scored. Kim Taney has had a look like handing us a victory, but they scored right near the end, denying us a first-ever win against Pauline. That would be brilliant tonight, wouldn't it, to cheer everyone up? And I think they can't. I don't mean the players, they cheer up a wee bit. Yeah, just give us all a lift and put a smile on our faces. And you saw what it meant to the country just to have that optimism get into every game, it was great. Adrian Bevinton, who joined us before. And he made a great point, didn't he? He's a football administrator, a chief exec. But he was saying, if you've got the federation, the SFA, in tune with a manager, and they gave him a new contract a lot longer ago, they're in step, we hope, I think. And that augers well for us. Yeah, he marks all the chief executives. Mike Morelli, the Prezi. Isn't it? Yeah, I mean, they've got a relationship with Steve Klatt. They believe that. Pauline, I'm not against Steve Klatt, being in charges. We need to lift it, we need to lift it. And that Steve's got his personality, that's who he is. Nothing wrong with that, but we do. He needs to get results on the part. And I'm sure that he can. Just one thing about the SFA, I think, is a blow for the national game, is it's a loss of Graham Jones to hats. His performance director, Graham Jones, is a fabulous operator, really being influential behind the scenes. And the success it's gotten off had in the past five years. And that's a big loss. But what a great signing for hats. Is that not the wrong way round, leaving the national team to go to? OK, it's a big club, but it's not going to win a big two. Yeah, I'm kind of surprised that maybe Graham wanted club football, in terms of personal terms and contracts. But I think it's a sore one, he'll be a hard guy to replace it this iffy. Susan is on saying, what's this with English accent, Paul? No, I love it. If you had me commentating, actually commentating, honestly, I don't know why I mentioned that honestly. Go to that accent for it. Let's hope we get them. Whatever accent, who's doing it tonight? It's on ITVX or whatever. I found it on the button anyway. So I think it's Matt. I think it's Matt's face. Sam, Matt's face. Sam, yes, he'll be going from here to Dublin. He'll be doing the... Of course, yeah. That's a big game as well, isn't it? Of course, did we say them? Is it Sam? Whatever, I mean, he's a great broadcaster. And so, yeah, watch with Jim down there at talk sports. So, yeah, it's Sam Matt's face. There you are. As long as we win. Exactly. Who's the comment? And we're going to win. Well, let's see if, in the manager, he knew he's talking about the threat of the polls who are in town. I think we watched the Polish performances in the tournament in the summer. They defend well, they have strong defence. They're also very positive when they go forward. They attack with the two wingbacks, they have two strikers. They have to play the same system. Two attacking midfield players. They can be quite open at times. I expect an open game, to be honest. Expecting an open game for it. Here's the captain. He was talking earlier about, you know, the last time round. He said, look, we want a consistency of form now. Yeah, that's up for me, definitely, to look at. We know that's what we need to improve. That's the next step for us because that's been to two tournaments now. We've only got two draws. And yeah, when it comes to the tournaments, we've not progressed the way we would like to. We had dreams of getting to the last 16 and we didn't quite manage it. But also, not in the so long, distant past, that we beat the current Euro champions here at Hamden. So we need to get more consistent at doing it. We've done it previously, but not all the time. And that's what we need to get better at, especially in the tournaments, because I think we see how ruthless tournaments can be. We've seen that, you know, a bad start can really harm you. And that's been probably both euros we've been at now. The first games we've let ourselves down. It's up to us to now try and get to the next tournament, because our campaigns have been relatively good over the last four, six years. And it's up to us to try and achieve our dreams of playing in a World Cup. And then we have to address that when hopefully we're at the next World Cup. So Andy, what you're thinking now, the talking is nearly over. We'll know the team fairly soon. Do you line up tonight, Andy Walker, if you were in charge? Yeah, I had gone in goal. I'd have back for a Johnson coming in. Max Johnson, who's, what, 20 years old, I think? Twenty, a pound plane with a string of grass. I would have shut her in McKenna. Andy Robertson, your captain at left back. I'd have Mick Tomany and Gilmour and Ryan Gold with McGinn and Christie. And Lyndon Dykes, I'd tell his striker. And I take Mark's point about, you know, just a potential excitement. I've been dork, but I'm sure he'll be given, I don't know. Twenty minutes, half an hour. Quite exciting, the Italian two now, isn't it? Oh, I get it. I get it moving. And playing together, both of them. Napoli, fantastic. Was there a nearly summer and went to the stadium, the... Diego Maradóo, does it? Maradóo, Maradóo. They all talk about the taxi drivers and everyone talked about it. Those two, it's exciting. I see Lewis Ferguson's been in the squad for Bologna, for the Champions League. Back to the both, soon. Yeah, it's great news, isn't it? Yeah, great. Mark, your team for tonight, will you go in? Yeah, I'll go for... Certainly for the back, whether you want to call it a 4-5, 1-4-3-3, a 4-4-1-1. Anyway, I'd go, well, this is what I think it'll be... Gun in goals, two fullbacks, Ralston and Robertson, two set of halves, John Sutter and Ryan Portis and main midfield three, John McGinn, Scott McTomb and Billy Gilmer. Yeah, it's true. Lyndon Dykes is our number nine, and then you as Ben Dock and Ryan Christie, whatever way you thought about him, probably Ben Dock on the right-hand side, as an out-and-out winger, whether Steve Clark goes without him or not, but we just need... We need something to get us on the front foot pole there. We need something to think that's what... You know, the benefit of hindsight now, we were really lacking in the three games at the Euros with somebody that could go and get the ball and take one of them and go and dribble them and make things happen. You know, we didn't have a flying fullbacks. The way we used to have, we made, you know, really some disappointing mistakes, but let's say if we get a chance, we need to take a number. Lyndon Dykes will be really hungry, missed out in the Euros for India, which is a shame for him, because make no mistake, if Poland are given an opportunity, they've got Robert Levin Dorsky, ready to slam the ball at the back of the net. He's got nearly 100 goals for his country, so we need to make sure that we take the chances that we create. Wow, for his country, because their top scorers are Dennis Law against the Galatians at 53 goals and they're about 30. - 30, what's 30? - 30. - Right, oh, wow. - 20. - My goodness. - 20. - 11 Dorsky Hanks, 85 goals for his country. - It's always been a problem area, but we do need to just put... get crosses into the box, have efforts at gold. That was the thing that really stopped us from getting really involved during the Euros. We just didn't... We weren't a threat at all. Manager was asked about the pressure to start well after, you know, the disappointment of the summer. - I think all the games are important. Obviously, we've touched on the summer, we were disappointed, we have to move on, so this is the first game. For the players that have been playing at the start of the season, they go to their club, they have a little freshness about them. For me, it's been a long summer and I look forward to the game and see what we get from the players. - That's good. - You're a big reaction. - Sorry, Lauren Shankman, is he in the conversation at all? Last night, Peter and Barry went with Tommy Conway up front. You saw him the other week, I think, maybe. - Yeah, he didn't look focused at Fair Park. Money will beat Hart's 3-1. He was a captain that day, Lauren Shankman, he didn't look sharp. And he's not had a good start to the season. So that's why I think Lyndon Dyches, who's got a move. It's quite exciting to go to Birmingham, albeit in the third tier. They're a big club, I'm sure they'll come up this season. I'm sure he'll play more often than not and get a good goals return this season. - It's got right there as well. - It's got a great goal. - It's got a great goal. The weekend last minute, will it? - I mean, just could have done with them maybe at the weekend, but it was probably time for him to go. What are you thinking about, Fred? It's just a few months ago, everyone was talking about Lauren Shankman. - Yeah, he has got off the ball, but it's symptomatic of what's happening at Hart's, but he's good enough to bounce back. But Paul, in general terms, and this is where we struggle, and it's been a problem for four or five years, we don't have a number nine that you can hang your hat on to score a goal. We don't, as I said tonight, that you're looking at Leven Dorsky. On Sunday, they might have Ronaldo, something like that, crazy, you look, number nine's are so important, and we have really solid, hard-working number nine's, but we don't have natural sniffles. You know, without a Sunday, it's just you can hang your hat on to put anything in the back of the net that's bobbing around the six yard box, eight, ten yards out. But dates will give you a good shift, he'll get around, he'll make his presence fail, he'll make himself an option for the midfield or the back guys to go and hit, but we don't have one, I don't know whether one's going to be as a one in the horizon, maybe Andy or no, but as long as we're without a real top top number nine, we're always going to struggle to score goals. - Top top midfielders, here's one of them, John McGinn about looking forward, starting tonight. - I will think, you definitely don't part them, I still think of it. Getting relegated with simmering, what could have changed, what you could do better. These things never leave you, everyone always says the highs, the highs in football make the lows worth it, but they're lying. So it'll always be in the back of your head, think you could have done differently both, together as a team and individually, so we kind of change that now, it's about looking forward, trying to... - So basically, it's unfair on the new players coming in to score, obviously Ben was in the squad before the summer. He wasn't involved in that, so why didn't he be doing good with him in the squad? We need to try and use that, make it better, but also try and bring a freshness and a little bit more positivity when the new guys coming in to the squad. Obviously, God had been back, John McCracken for a day trying this morning. There are new faces and it's a bit trying to freshen things up and do something different, and all of his neting proved both on and off the path. - Mark Shogg's been on saying he agrees with Andy, Ryan Gold is in the squad, play him. - Yeah, listen, if he's showing up well enough and training, Paul, another three good sessions under the belt, so I have to go out, I've not seen Ryan Gold play for a number of years, but Mac in a point may be, if he wasn't a gooder off four months ago, why is this all of a sudden gooder off now? I don't know, let's hope so. I do remember when he was at the United, breaking through Jackie McNamara and Simon Dornley were in charge, and they raved about the whole country. It was a really exciting talent. Man United, every big club was looking at him. So he's 28, so he's still got five, six years ahead of him. So I hope that he shows something. I hope if he's been good enough that he has given an opportunity, because we're interested to see how he's progressed, and if given the opportunity, how he can influence the game tonight from middle to front. I think he's a captain at Vancouver Whitecaps. I think we all wonder, what's the standard of the MLS, and what's the standard when you go to Saudi? Jack Henry's gone there, he's been playing for Scotland, so we do tend to wonder. I do remember when he came back, he was online at Hibson. Yeah, that's right. I think he said himself that he thought the game was a bit robust, it was a bit too hectic, it was a bit too 100 miles an hour, and he was happy to begin back to the MLS. I think sometimes international football you can get a wee bit more room, because you tend to, especially if you're a midfield player, teams tend to sit back and you heard Stevie Clark there talking about the way that Poland are going to play tonight. Ryan Gold could come on and really make a name for himself tonight. Let's hope he does. Seasture Armstrong has gone to, yeah, Vancouver, yeah. I think the MLS standard is probably higher than what it undoubtedly is, but it's not the same, and I think for Jack Henry as well, such a young player to be in the Middle East. I think there's a decent argument to say, the MLS is a bit of standard than our Premier League, our top flight, do you think? I don't know, it could be, but it could be. I think my point there was, we're sometimes very arrogant, and we've got the Scottish Premier shirt, but the MLS does have a lot of good players. Of course, you've maybe got national players, I think James Sands, who was at Rangers, didn't really make it in the American play. He plays for one of the New York Cubs. You figured it out with Glasgow? Of course, but no, I hope that Ryan Gold can come, if he does play tonight, I hope he plays really well and shows that he's still got a lot to offer. Billy's been on two questions. One of them is about Scotland and the teams, and he did say, are we a bit arrogant? Look at how we're doing in Europe. Take the all firm out of it, and our hearts have dropped down, but they've dropped down, Kelly out, yet again, another. We've got a great league that we enjoy watching every week. What's the quality of our league? It's always thrown up, I do a lot of games down south, and championships, sometimes League 1, League 2. You've heard people at Paul Lambert talking about the comparison and where clubs would stand. It's always an interesting chat, that one. But yeah, just with Ryan Gold tonight, I hope he can get an opportunity and I hope he takes it. Andy anchored the program last week, I was on with Craig Moore, and when the draw came in, he saw that the class, honestly. He just took over on the Euro draw. Yeah, a doing Celtic could have asked for a better draw, which brings us neatly, nicely, to the break. Not to the break, but to the squads here, the Celtic squad for the Champions League, the keeper's Michael Sinisalo, and Scott Bain defenders. I was the Johnson, Greg Taylor, Liam Scales, Austin Trustee, Alex Valle, Magic Novroski. There's a name we haven't heard for a wee while. Cameron Carter-Vickers, Tony Ralston, Stephen Welsh, midfielders, Rio Hatati, Lewis Palmer, Nicholas Kuhn. Yang is in there, Luke McCown, just in on the transfer deadline day. Arnie Ingelles, of course, 11 million pounds. Highstiver, isn't it, for Celtic it is. Pillow Bernardo, Callum McGregor, James Forest, and Adam Montgomery back in, there's the Scottish quota. former's Kayogo, Adam Ida, and Dyson Mida. The only one missing there, Mark, would it be Thiago Home? Yeah, Thiago Home is not in the squad. He played in Europe last season, Paul. And I think we could all understand Brendan Rogers' frustrations when you looked at some of the players, because they clearly weren't ready for that level of football, and there's only so many project players, development players that you can take under your wing at the one time, and home to one, and show these, and experience by getting the red card against the final. So he's clearly not shown enough to be in the squad. That's a bottom line, and he'll just need to go knuckle down and show that he is good enough to get a game week to week, but he faces some competition. I think one of those ones, Paul, that you could say about so many of the signings 30 months ago, is that he's not up to the standard that Celtic required to go and win games of football. Andy, the squad overall then, Celtic, not too many surprises? Andrew. Yeah, I think when you look at the business standards transfer window, I think it tells you the weight. Now that Brendan Rogers has, I don't think Celtic would be spending that money with Ronny Dyla, Neil Lynn, and maybe not even Anj Poster Koglu. So the fact that Brendan Rogers now back for a second time, and obviously that would need to be part of the deal. We need to be serious about spending money, and Celtic, I think, I've done well in business going out. They've brought in a good bit of money as well, but I think in general, you speak to any Celtic supporter now, and there's a level of excitement and anticipation about what's going on in the summer, but a level of excitement and anticipation about what they could possibly do in the Champions League. Could they get anything between 10, 15 points? That would obviously secure them for their participation in that league, and I think that's good to be the end. And you think they can? I think they can get more than 10 points, yeah. Ranger Squad out today, then, for the Europa League, and what a draw they've got as well. Some of the names in there are absolutely huge, not least man united, and not least Tottenham Hotspours. We all do, yeah, great draw. So the Squad, the Keepers Butland and Kelly, and Pardonakis, defenders, James Tavernier, the captain, Revan Yomas, Robin Propper, John Sutter, Dujons Sterling, Jeff Day. The new signing on Transfer Deadline Day, Kasim Virgil, Leon Barrigan is in, in the midfield, we've got Cortez, Baron, Diamondi, Bajurami, Justin as well, and Kieran Dow, Nicholas Raskin, up front, serial deserts, Tom Lawrence, Vaclav Cerny, and we haven't seen him much, but we did it at the weekend, Hamza Igammani. So Andy Nodenilow, and no Robbie Matondo, who have been off injured at the weekend. And sort of Ryan McOsle, Ryan McOsle, didn't it? That's a good point, I don't see him here, we'll double check that, yeah. Well, the one about Diamondilow is the fact that it's so much money, and I just don't see if he's fit, or if he's playing, or if he's staying, or what are the prospects of Rangers fans seeing such an expensive player in action. And it seems to be a bit of a mystery. It is, it's really, really strange. Rangers obviously hurting badly after the weekend. Andy, do you think it's a good thing? They've got the international break to work with the new players, or is it the headache that just goes well? Well, I think when you've lost any game, the first thing you want to do is get back in the saddle, and you want to play as soon as possible, and get that defeat out of your mind, try and play a bit better. The next time Rangers play, they owe it to their supporters to be better. I think they've got a bit of a boost now that they're going back to Ibrucks, but yeah, they need to be a whole lot better. I thought the gap last week, you could pretty much see it. Yeah, just double checking the forwards. Deserts, Lawrence, Cherney, Igammani, midfielders Raskin, Dowell, Bajrami, Diomandi, Baron Cortes, yeah. And just seeing if it's slipped to anywhere, but no, he isn't. Ross McOsland, not there. Really? Well, that's strange, isn't it? Just one that I've missed the name because for the life, I can't understand why he wouldn't be in the squad. I mean, but you either say on the moon of Scottish born. Well, he would fit, so I'm just assuming he would be in. Yeah, so, so, man, I'm just counting on them. Regardless, Rangers have got a tough European campaign. I had some really tough games, Paul, and what they need to guard against, and Philippe Clemont needs to guard against heavy defeats. They really need to just stay in the game, stay in the section, and also domestically as well. They need to start winning regularly in a Saturday, you know, drop points at 10 Castle, lost to Celtic. They're five points behind Celtic. They're behind Avardina behind the DNA. And they go to Canada this next week on Saturday, we can Sunday. So, you know, tough fixtures. And the Rangers players, look, the managers, the focus is always on the manager. We get that, that's just how football works. But the players need to be better, Paul. Really, I hope, you know, a lot of them have reflected and looked at an individual performances and a contribution on Sunday, a lack of contribution. Some of it was quite shameful for the Rangers, just as it really was. More, coming up next. This is the Go Radio Football Show. Listen anytime, whatever you get, your podcasts. Let's go, go, go. Go Radio Football Show Thursday night edition. International edition coming up, we'll talk international football in a moment or two, we'll have the team news pretty soon. Just looking at some of the other headlines today, we gave you the squads for the Champions League, Celtic squad, Rangers squad for the Europa League. Elsewhere, Tony Dockety saying that Celtic have a tremendous player. He's not a jersey filler, look, McCown. And Andy, you've seen him a number of times captaining Dundee. He started the great last season and this season started equally well. Yeah, I said before, he reminds me of Ryan Christie when he was coming through and being a special player at Inverness, getting a loan to Aberdeen going to Celtic. Taking about a time to make his market Celtic, but he did. And now, of course, he's, I mean, he played the weekend for Bournemouth and that remarkable game against Everton. Although, I've got to say, all chains were Bournemouth when Ryan Manoff. They even offered to Nell and when the subs come on, they were obviously being much more adventurous. Yeah, you know, obviously 132. It's been a good move for him though, isn't it? It's the way things are these days, you know, Bournemouth. Well, it's a beautiful part of the world. He, I think he's got a manager who's a bit more, well, you talk about Bournemouth under Eddie Howe. And I know they did well under Eddie Howe, but there's much more of a spirit of adventure with Ayurola. And I think Ryan Christie's benefiting from that. Mark, some of the news today, they're saying that Ryan Kenti's names come up and Billy's been on saying, could he come back to Rangers? Would they get him back at some point? Because he's out of favour, isn't he? With, you know, say, Mourinho and Obu Nels at Finnabachi. Apparently, Mourinho wanted him to look at offers from England, Scotland and Saudi Arabia during the summer transfer window. But he didn't, Ryan Kenti, staying put at the moment at Finnabachi. Back to Rangers, no, I wouldn't think so. I don't know, because, you know, Finnabachi won't a good chunky's wage, come on, if not all of it. Should he go back? Is he an upgrade than what they've got? Maybe he didn't show off enough for me, Paul, you know, in the big games. And I'll say this a bit. A number of the Rangers players, you know, your toward Cantwells and all these guys, your Tom Lorn, Saudi's getting it. Oh, he's great and he's listening to that. But, you know, the no-help Rangers win enough trophies. Bottom line, they're not taking a game again, Celtic with the scruff of the neck and making things happen. So, no, I don't think it'd be a good, but that's it. But we're guessing that it's Rangers. It's the Scottish team, if indeed there was any Scottish team there. They came in from, but no, I wouldn't go back. Robin Propper, I saw it in the papers this morning, only decided to sign for Rangers from 20 at the last minute. The 30-year-old center, central defender, expressing late doubts about the move. Maybe just about coming to Scotland, according to the Dutch club's technical director Arnold Brookings. So, paper top, not that I'm dismissing that, Mark, but I'm not sure where that takes us, he's here. And he wants to make his mark, but it's been a tough start for him on gold, his first game. Yeah, he needs to get up to speed, I think. Yeah. Pawnee's games under his belt. Look, you need to form a relationship. Partnerships are so important, particularly at the heart you've defined. So, if you look at Celtic catavickers and scales, I've formed a strong partnerships, not perfect, but it's strong and it's up to trust it, to go and try and dislodge Liam's scales to get into that team. For Rangers, I think John Sutter is your mainstay. So, who's going to partner him? And whoever it is, if it's proper, whatever, then stick with it and give them a run of games together to build up a rapport, not only with each other, but with Jack Butler behind them as well. Such an important three, that triangle, and Rangers have really missed that. Tough game from, wasn't it? Stating the obvious Sunday, Celtic Park. 60,000 Celtic fans and Celtic rampant. So, proper, he wasn't the only one, but he found it really tough. Yeah, Celtic were better in every department. I did enjoy the way that Rangers started the game. I thought, "Oh, this is going to be a closer contest than I thought," because I didn't anticipate them being so effective for 10 minutes. What day of Monday looked really good? There was a few turnovers or possession, and Rangers looked threatening, maybe for 10 minutes, looked really lively, but they've no resolve, they've no strength of character. You take a blow and that should strengthen your resolve and you want to come back, but Rangers just seem to fold, and that's a big worry, because when you've got a lack of character in your team, never mind ability, that's a big worry. Mark, you mentioned their Liberty Rangers performance. It was not what the Rangers fans would expect. No, but even first and foremost, Paul Eiffert. And what I said, just keep that key point, because I think we could spend every night this week doing a five-year show on Rangers from the boardroom, doing it on the part. I said, "No, you've got to check it if in." That's paramount. The other thing where I'd blame the manager, because I said it last season, for James Tavernier's sake and for the good of the team, he should not be playing it right back. It looks tormented even before a ball's been kicked, so why the manager continues to play him it right back, and I highlighted it last season, then that's when the manager put Duzun staring at it right back and give him a go and try to handle my either. And I also think, as well, for James Tavernier's sake, Paul, I think it's best that there's a part in the ways between him and Rangers and interest enough, the turkeys transfer window is still open for another eight, nine days or so, and I wonder if something might happen, because he's come in for an incredible amount of stick, post that game on Sunday. And I think a lot of it's unfair, a lot of it is warranted, but I just think for his sake, I think the team has come to move on, and for Rangers as well, the problem wouldn't be against getting them off the wage bill. I think most players will take this as a every day of the week, but the level of abuse that he's taken, personal abuse, just that is, you know, it's just symptomatic of the times, you know, you've got people, right, you film it, I'll go up and abuse them, that's horrible, it's just, it's horrible. And you know they're trying to make the moment 15 minutes of failure. Criticism, you accept, you know, we're reasonable punters who don't think you're doing a good enough job, you would happily sit and talk to them about that. That was, that was sometimes part of the deal. When I was at Celtic and you parked your car in the school, and big bully, you know, having, you know, having your car drawn up to, you know, the side gate, you walk through the supporters and you hear what they have to see, and it was good to hear it. It's got one team, it's just dropping, so getting the specs on there, as well. Angus Gunn in goal, Tony Robertson, Andy Robertson. So these are, I'll do it in the numbers, obviously in the right wing is Andy Ross in the left. Grant Hanley is in there. Of course, Scott McTombany, Grant Hanley, Scott McKenna, John McGinn, Billy Gilmer, wearing number eight, Linden Dykes, number nine, Ryan Christie, 11, and Kenny McLean is in number 23. So I know you're just matching him up. Yep, back four. So he's gone for a four, Mark. Yeah, he's gone with a, going in goals, two fullbacks, as they roused him, excuse me, and Andy Robertson, your two center half, Grant Hanley, and Scott McKenna. Scott McTombany, Billy Gilmer, John McGinn, and Kenny McLean looks like you're midfield four, and then Ryan Christie, just off the main number nine, who is Linden Dykes, and on the bench for Scotland as well, Paul. So he's a strong, a strong bench, Lon Shanklin, George Roy, Connor Barron, Ryan Portis, John Chutter, Ben Dook, is on the bench, Ryan Gold is on the bench. Tommy Conway, Lewis Morgan, of course, and Max Johnson. So plenty of good options, and they'll be certainly, he said they would stick with these trusted guys, and that's starting to live in. He certainly has, stuck with guys that have been with them for the five years that he's been in charge. Two keepers in the bench, of course, John McCracken, called in the other day from Dundee and Zander Klag. Andy, what do you make of it then? He's gone back. I thought there might have been a couple of fresh faces. I thought a Gold or a Johnson might have come in just to see what they can do. I totally accept it, it's a big game and it's competitive, and you're now playing for points. You're in a group, it's not a friendly, but I just thought he would have given a couple of debuts, a couple of fresh faces. I thought we might have seen that. Scott McKinn is the one that maybe got away. Came up last night in the programme. Why didn't Rangers go in for Scott McKinn? He was on a three, I know he'd been big wages, he's going to tell us Palmas that he's done well so far. I know they lost. I think Celtic would have been in for him. I thought it was a signing they could have made, left centre back and strong and physical done well. He's done well at Aberdeen and obviously he's played Champions League football elsewhere, but obviously now he's in Spain. I'm sure he'll be a successor. Kenny McLean in there. I mean, we know what he did in the qualifying at the start of the campaign last time round. We'll never forget it, but that's a bit of a surprise. Yeah, I'm surprised he came and came. He's an audience legend, he's got 400 senior games under his belt, so he knows he's way around the football pitch. And he can pop up where we are going and he'll be hungry Paul to go and do something. He doesn't often get a start and a national level. So clearly Steve Clark and the staff have seen something and training, also is what you've got to remember. When you're picking a team, they'll be looking at the opposition, potential weaknesses and how the team can exploit them. So that's where we're not privy to all the detail that he's in here, a team selection. So he's going with the guys that he knows back to front, but I really do hope that your goals, your dorks, your conways, I hope they'll give an opportunity tonight, Paul. He came on and lets you out there about in front of the top, man. Let's hear from the captain. I think that's on the manager and the coaches. You know, that's their job to work out how we can progress again, but we can also help. Of course, we can. The manager's very good at asking the experienced players what we think about certain situations. And I spoke to the manager a couple of times in the summer after the euros had ended. And yeah, we discussed many things. And but it's up to him to make the final calls. And it's up to him to then look at how we move forward. We've obviously got a new coach in Alan Oven, who's been really good this week on the pitch and things of that. And an experienced head that's been there and done it. And just adding a bit more experience to our backroom staff. And yeah, we've obviously added new players and new positions. You know, and we hope people will be excited by them. You know, just a few young players that we have to be patient with, but also they've got exciting careers ahead. And you know, hopefully they get a chance to show it in the Scotland shirt as well over over a period of time. So some changes in the backroom team. We're there, we spoke a bit at the other night. So Andy Robertson always leads us so well though. And he speaks well, yeah. Yeah, I mean, he's thinking about what a start to the season they're having. Ah, tremendous watch they came last week. It all transferred. And now you've got another big team that I've spent a lot of money and not doing it. Manager under severe pressure. And supposedly Paul, they're saying that Andy Slott has made a wonderful impression early doors at Liverpool. The players really like him. It has been seamless behind the scenes as well. He's attention to detail how he wants to play. So Andy Slott has really made a positive impression with all the Liverpool players. Yeah, you want Liverpool to be up there, we're sitting, we're obviously thinking sitting in Arsenal after last season being the main two. But if you could get Liverpool up there as well, it would be a great race. And even beat them would be even better, wouldn't it? Tremendous. Have you got an English club, Andy? Is that fair to ask you? I've always had their leads as my club. Because when I was a young boy, leads were just full of squats. Yeah, of course. We're Brendan, Jordan and my Queen of Grays. I see Eddie Grays up. Yeah. Unveiling a statue. That's really brilliant, isn't it? Yeah, he's in brilliant, isn't it? Yeah. But my heart is with Bolton now, because I had such a good time playing there, a good three seasons at Bolton. Yeah, you loved it. Really enjoyed living there too. Lovely part of the world. And the Reebok, as it was, are you at the baseball? Well, I was at Bolton. And just a couple of years after I left the, well, maybe more than a couple of years, but they went to the Reebok, which is actually outside of Bolton. But it was a great stadium still, is it? I thought you were a blade as well, aren't you? Tough sheet stadium. Yes, of course, I said that. You name is, isn't it? You're going to be absolutely a Bolton. I try saying that when you're reborn, a tough sheet stadium. Obviously, what about we know? There's no Callum McGregor. He's surprised a lot of people by going in, my goodness, his form for Celtic has been absolutely brilliant. So John McGinn was asked about this the other day. No, it's not taking me by surprise, just like what we're talking about. He's not a break in the summer for years. How he's managed to do what he's done. He's a credit to him, he's a great professional, great teammate, and I'm sure if his body allowed him, he'd carry on, he probably would have. He was passionate to play for Scotland, and certainly for us, especially the way he's playing, the way he's shooting fit inside the box every game and finding the top corner. It's certainly going to be a big loss for us, so it's been great to play alongside him, and I suppose you never see another in football, but Cal has made his call and with respect to support him and hopefully someone can step up in his place. You know, obviously, John McGinn said that he wasn't overly surprised, the boys all talk, teach Liverpool, and you know what, we might end up seeing more and more of this, particularly for Errant and the national players that play for clubs that involved in Europe in a regular basis, because we can all see it UEFA and FIFA, the way they're treating footballers is not right now. You know, they're just putting business, business, business, money, money, money, more games, trying to get a world cup every two years. So come 30, 31, if you're playing regular, you're going to be in the verge of burnout, and what do these guys need to do, didn't they? They kind of be off, otherwise they don't get a game at club level. - Of course. - If you're playing for Liverpool, you've got a high standard in it. John McGinn at Aston Villa. You know, all these guys, so I'm not surprised by it, and I think you'll see more doing the same as years go on now, if you're playing for a top club and you want to stay at that top club. - I totally excited where you're saying I understand it, Mark, but then I'll look at Liv and Dowsky tonight. He's got 150 caps, Ronaldo's got 170. Messi's got 140. I did think Cal and McGregor's going to be the one. He'll get more than 100 caps. He'll get up there, OK? I think I still think about Andy Robertson, sort of John McGinn. And remember, who was the other one we mentioned? The Rangers player. Steve Davis, you got about 120 votes for Northern Ireland. And I've totally got it. I mean, you're meeting up now with the National Team in its swap. - It's maybe 10 days. - Yeah, just two games. The days before the first game, and you obviously weigh a number of days for the second game. It might add up to about eight, nine, 10 days, and you're doing that, what? Five, six times in a year, it's a lot to ask, but I just love to see the likes of Liv and Dowsky tonight, who's getting, I think he's 153rd to cap, and he's playing with some of the best teams in the world. This is the Go Radio Football Show. Listen live, weeknights from five, on goal. Let's go! We gave you the Scotland team. They've gone to a back four. Scott McKenna's in there, so two is Grant Hanley. On the right, Tony Ralston on the left, Andy Robertson, and Mark Whitty will take it from here. And the midfield is strong, midfield. I'm not saying it's not strong at the back, but Grant Hanley hasn't been playing much for Norwich City. Yeah, there's a few boys at Antstart, and every week, you know, Scott Scott McKenna's not starting every week. London Dikes hasn't started every week. Tony Ralston's not starting every week, so look, it's sailing the season, players are finding the feat, but what's strong in the middle of the park, obviously you get Victoria Gilman again, in mainstays of the team. You've got Kenny McLean, who's come in, who's, you know, knows his way about very, very experienced, and Ryan Christie as well, who, you know, makes us see this contribution to be born with every week down south. In London Dikes, up top, you know, he'll be feeling fresh, he'll be buzzing, probably wanting to meet an impact, he missed out in the Euros, he's getting a new move to Birmingham City, so yeah, I hope he's on form tonight, but oh, he gets service. You know, you think back to the Euros, Jay Adams, who felt for him, who gave his all, but it was hardly given a chance, nothing was created for him, so let's hope that changes tonight. Big night for Tony Ralston back in, hasn't started yet for Celtic this season, but he gives everything for Scotland, doesn't he? Came in late for the Euros. Yeah, he's got a goal for Scotland, I think, I remember seeing him at the back post, but there's the loyalty that Stevie Clark has shown to someone like Anthony Ralston, not getting a game for his club side, but asking him to perform in a big game against Poland, hoping that we can go off to a good start, get all three points, and yeah, I wish him well. John McGinn, the villa captain we heard from him. Super John McGinn. Indeed. So, I mean, you can hear how gutted he was. He went away for a piece in quiet, days after the Euros bumped into me, first day at the hotel, and brilliant guy, I hadn't met him. Did he manage to negotiate a rice with brother Stevie? What happens over a cappuccino? Exactly, yeah, but you could just tell that he was, and he said it himself, he's gutted, and you heard him say it about St. Murray? Oh, I love it, I love it. That just shows you, he cares. Yeah, you know what, by the way, you lay, if he wants he'll have a job in the media as a pundit when he hangs up, he spoots with us, he doesn't want to go any coach, but he's a great coach. I can't talk to you about that later. But I love it, Miss Will. You just know it's just coming right from the hat. It's not staged, it's just coming right from the hat, and that's what's great about the fact he's a top player. What a player, what a career he's having. Yeah, it was interesting here that he didn't really want to draw, Celtic in the Champions League, but obviously they've got it. It's going to be the last game, so I don't know whether that might have an effect, or you're looking for a win to get in that top, what is it? Top, '60s, top 24s. Top 24, yeah, top 24s. Yeah, top 24s. I do think, I do think, Celtic, I've got the ability to get, I don't know, 10 points, maybe more. Here's what he said about the tickets. It wasn't a great, obviously as a team personally, a lot of expectation from previous success. That's not the one I meant to play, it's about when he heard the drawing Celtic. Yeah, I'm absolutely delighted that it's January. So I had that two days with my phone off. So then when I found out it was the last game, I was like, "Right, I'll deal with that after Christmas." But I just knew I actually wasn't watching the draw. I wasn't watching the draw 'cause I knew it was a one in four chance, so just as soon as I heard my phone buzzing, I thought, "Oh, no." So I knew all my pals, all my family. I'm sure they'll be wanting Celtic to win, but it's something I've dealt with in the past, with sitting there in Hibson. I've got a job to do for Villa, and I'm sure they'll be an exciting game for everyone. Hi, obviously my first experience in the Champions League with a new format. It's very exciting for me to be involved in it, obviously. To play again, so it'll be a bit strange, beating the Greg and James yesterday. We just had a laugh and a joke about it, but when the game comes up, I'm sure it'll be serious, and we'll be wanting to beat each other on the biggest stage. Mark, it's a huge glamour tie. Yeah, I've been just to see how the league looks, Paul, at that last game. I mean, normally I would think Villa would be fairly comfortable, but they've got a tough draw. You know, you've got to event this by a Munich, Bologna, I think, and Celtic, that's a four home games in the away game. So I just hope that Villa have already qualified. That's obviously Celtic. I've already got a bit of Celtic. I'm going there needing something and Villa needs something. A tough, tough game, and Villa on a top team. Paul, I've got a world-class manager in Unai. Eminating knows how to get results in Europe, but it's a long way of game. It's game number eight. Then I agree with Andy, looking at Celtic's four home games. They're all winnable. I think the draw has been very kind to Celtic. It's not a gimme, but I would be very disappointed. And I said, I think it'd be a failure on Celtic's part if they didn't get at least 10 points at a 24. And whether that's good enough to get them through, let's wait and see, but I've got to go get 10 points. I think 10 points definitely get you in the top 24, surely. And Andy for Rangers, it's a good draw as well. Some huge names in there. It's a great draw for the supporters. I mean, the fact that you're playing Man United and spursing Leon, they are obviously the eye-catching ones, but Rangers want to do what they have done in the last few years. Get back to being a really good Europa League team, winnable away from home, winnable at home. I think the fact that they're back at iBrucks will obviously help them. Didn't help them against a cave to hand in when they were trying to get involved in the Champions League. So, yeah, this team doesn't look as though it's getting anything like the team that I'm thinking of. Steve and Gerard team, the Giovanni van Bronckers team, those players could come up with big performances. I don't see many Rangers players at this moment who can come up with a really big performance. Mark, as you know, they're home to Tottenham, Leon, Union, Son, Galois, and they're still a Bucharest. A way to man you, Olympiacos, Malmo, and Nice. What do you think? Well, I think there's a couple of games in them. I say that you think, yeah, you can get points on the board. I think so, they can get 10. Can Rangers get 10? I think Rangers will struggle to get 10 in that. I think what if they top my head problem, like the Rangers getting maybe seven points, waiting at a guard again because what happened to Giovanni van Bronckers? And the Champions League has a two to a few spankings. Then, you know, they were in a downer, getting in a domestic game, they're sad. And ultimately that led to him losing his job, which again, in the benefit of hindsight, they sacked him too quickly. This is to stop with Evam Bronckers. So what Clemourne needs to guard against in these players is Spurs, Man United, et cetera. Don't get battered. You don't get battered. You know, just, you know, whatever it may be, just keep the score respectable. Back to tonight's game, then. Final thoughts before in the last three minutes of the programme. Lesson an hour to go to kick off. We know who we're up against. It's going to be really, really tough. We talked a bit, John, again. He's got McKenna. Good move for him, though, to last Palmas. Yeah, he's playing a broad. He's got a different style of football to cope with. Just living in a foreign country. I don't know whether he's going to immerse himself in the language. He's got a power there in Ollie McBordney, who's gone there from Sheffield United and started well. I think he's a good player. I think he's got a lot to offer. I'm surprised Celtic Rangers weren't interested in him, but he's made his move and I think he'll do well there. What a night for the defence, though, up against the strength of Paul and Mark. What are you thinking this evening? What do you want? I have to bonus Paul on paper, 11v11. I think Paul and are stronger, but Scotland's at home. They need to get a performance. I don't think I'd probably be an overly bad result to be perfectly honest. Now, no, 1-1-2-2, whatever. Just don't lose the game. I think it's important that we don't lose the game tonight. What do you reckon is going to happen? What do you feel? I'm going to go a 1-1 draw tonight, Paul. And who's going to get the Scotland goal? Who's going to get the Scotland goal? I'm going to go for... Join me again to score the Scotland goal and live in Dolph's gate to open the scoring for Paul and then us to fight back and get a point. Because he's desperate. You know, we're saying that after the Euros he thought. Let's get... He'll have 100 goals. He'll have 100 goals. He'll have a 100 goals. He'll set the next up to you. Yeah, he'll be thinking he can go for an R2 years and get 100 goals. Hard ones. Andy, what are you thinking? What kind of game are we going to see? I think we're up against real quality. Paul in Portugal, Croatia. Just looking at the team. I fancy Paul and tonight. I think they can get a couple of goals. Interesting to see how we do. We're going to our four. All the players, of course, comfortable playing in that, but it's not something we're used to seeing with Scotland on the Stevie Clark. I'm going to go 2-1 Paul. Because the ultimate aim is to get to the World Cup, isn't it? It clearly is. And that's March, isn't it? It starts the campaign for it. We hope Q&T. I hope I'm wrong. I mean, I got the Celtic Rangers one right, but I hope I'm wrong with this one. Yeah. I'm going to go 2-1 Paul. 2-1, you reckon? Wow. And Q&T, hopefully, there's no... We haven't seen him since what that was the Switzerland game, wasn't it? And my goodness, we hope he's back. He's been going to too many injuries in recent times, and you just want him to have that run a good fortune and be strong. Lewis Ferguson back training. And you would hope that he will be back. He's in the Bologna squad for Europe, for Champions League. And we'd love to see him being bludded more. He's got some caps, but he surely is one for the future. Yeah, we want to see all the good players just being available, Paul. Now, whatever the manager decides to do. But great to have them available. You know, Q&T and the Lewis Ferguson. Aaron Hickey, don't forget about him as well. If we are to succeed, if we are to make major tournaments, Paul, we need all these guys available. Thanks so much tomorrow night. It's going to be Peter Grant. We'll be here again with Barry Ferguson. Enjoy the match. And we'll see you on the next week. Look forward to the thanks, Paul. Mark, see you then. Thank you so much. Thanks, Paul. It's on ITV. One of the many where you'll find it's on Matterface and the gang on there. Thanks so much. News is next, and then Jocle Dame. We're back tomorrow night at five. This is the Go Radio Football Show. Listen live weeknights from five on go. Let's go!
