Listen back to Paul Cooney, Barry Ferguson and Peter Grant as they talk all things Scottish football.

This is the Goradio Football Show. Listen anytime, whatever you get, your podcasts. Call 08, 08 at 17, 17, 700. Two days to go for the transfer window. It closes Friday night, 11.30 for Scotland. One day to go to the Champions League draw, two days to the Europa League and four days to the Big One, the Derby. The old firm, the Glasgow Derby Celtic, again strangers and with us. Two veterans of that fixture, Peter Grant, smiling to my left. Barry Ferguson, confident smile as well, to my right. The headlines tonight. What Celtic have signed, we mentioned them last night. 20-year-old left back Alex Weyer from Barcelona, a one-year loan deal. Peter, what do you make of it? I think it's an area everybody's talked about. You needed help for Greg. I think Greg's been oced down and to be careful honest with you. But there's nobody else there if there isn't an injury. I mean, you know how that impacted us last year when certain boys were injured and you couldn't replace them. So, great, they've got some down. I know he's young, but it's obviously the quality being at Barcelona. But as I said, Greg, tell us, been excellent so far this season. Barry, the news at Rangers, Todd Cantwell, could be in his way to Blackburn Rovers. Talks have opened with your old club, a payment switch could be on the table, but it could be a loan initially. Yeah, obviously, it started a week, Ben Davies went and loaned a Birmingham city. Obviously, you just mentioned there, Paul, Todd Cantwell, and talks with Blackburn Rovers, Scott Wright, also, and talks with Birmingham City. And I think, if you see there two moves come off, I think then you'll see a couple of players come through the door, hopefully, for Rangers to make this squad stronger going into the season. Over at Celtic, Peter, we mentioned that the last few days, we believe it's now maybe a £9 million bid for the Belgian midfielder. He's at Osberg, of course, on the angles. He comes with a huge reputation, young player, this could be on. They're all going to be young players, Paul, that's there to go for predominantly. Unless it's ready, made someone, it's going to step in. I was really impressed with Bernard, the weekend, I thought he played really well. Yes, they'll need that help in there. I think that's important, you build. I'm surprised probably everybody knew probably Mark was going to be going, what wasn't done prior to that, in the respect of that. And I know a lot of hard work is in it, and there's a million things goes on. I think, when some people realise that you've got X, Y and Z amount of money, then they put their prices up, you know, and we know that's the way football works. We'd all do the same, I'm sure. But that's great, because it's an area to pitch. If you look at one injury, at this moment in time, which was after three central players were bit by Nardo, obviously, Kalam and Hattati, but we know when that hadn't last you in the two-merout injured at the same time, then it becomes a problem for you. So, I'm looking forward to seeing them, I don't know much about them, but I think it'll be important because you need that competitive edge, you need to be able to change it as I say, if you get injuries. Celtic, you could almost name their team for Sunday's game. But if for Rangers, there's still time. I mean, Celtic will bring people in, but it's unlikely they would start for Rangers. What do you think the players come in? They need maybe, what, two, three key positions. Yeah, probably looking at a central midfield on a forward player. Whether that's through the middle or on the flanks, Paul. That's the three positions. I'm sure Phillip Kalamont is wanting to strengthen. And I'm sure that will have the two players that I've just mentioned. Obviously, Todd Cantwell and Scott Wright. Xing, the Rangers, so the next 24 hours, I'm sure, if you see the two players leave the building, I'm hopeful that two or three players will come into the building. So, you're not, Paul, it's Cantwell, they'd pay any money for them because I'd seen that, and everybody's seen the need to get the money back, they pay for them. Yeah, I've seen that as well. Grant, I've seen the previous manager mention that they got him on a free transfer. I thought it was a fee they paid for. True, yeah, sure. Todd Cantwell, so, obviously, what they're looking at, Todd wants to leave, but I would imagine he's one of the higher enders. Yes, yeah. And the group, so that would free up a fair bit of money. And if they get a bit of money in, obviously, they would invest that into the squad. And obviously, Scott Wright, there's been talk with Scott Wright for the past year as well. It looked like they was moving to Tokyo last summer. Never happened. He's been involved at the start of this season, but also looks like he's going to be on the way out because he's not a set on starter. And I would imagine he's at an age and he thinks that he wants to try and have the opportunity to play a weekend week out. You can speak to Bally Ferguson and Peter Grant only here on the Go Radio Football Show, Glasgow Zone. You know, the number, oh, eight, oh, eight, seventeen, seventeen, seven hundred, or you can send a voice note to which, Bally, you're not crazy about it, we'll have to hear them. Peter, what's the voice note? I do not know. If you've got an answer machine, do you press the voice to get to the house, man? Thanks for the question. I wanted to just pack up the phone and see what's going on. They don't like speaking off and done, you know, the kids do it as well. No, I've got my dog, my kids, no, I've told them. Obviously, we've got a family group chat, send jokes or whatever, but no, if they want to talk about something, I'll speak to his, no, you need a phone mate. You need a phone mate, I'm no idea what it is. Oh, I beg her, this isn't because one's there in one's twenty-seven. Strange names, but I don't know. And those are the things that speak to us that often. Is that right? Just kidding. All I have makes sure to fight. I'd be disappointed if it didn't for us, that's for sure. You speak to the man for the second. Absolutely. Of course. Yeah. Right, they can call us as well. We're here from the Ferguson's and the grants at Polk and here with the team. I mean, last night, we came off here, we saw him on just beforehand speaking. Matt and Riley, I'm talking about, he went down, he made his debut. He lasted, what, six, seven minutes before that tackle. Peter, what did you make of it? It was a terrible tackle. And it was funny because when Matt's turned out to possession and he's overstretched a little bit, but then the player comes in the way he does, the ironic thing is, the player never even got booked. I couldn't understand what's the referee thinking. And I looked a bad one because knowing Matt is the kid he is, there's no way he's lying down. Don't get me wrong. I was quite surprised they played him because it's not bad, you know, it's not just a transfer. But these medicals you do, they take 24 hours, you're never off your feet, and he's played a lot, a lot of games. It's not as if he needs games and his legs. I was really surprised he played against Crawley, because believe it or not, that's a sort of derby match as well. And they make it really competitive. And I was listening to their minds after they said, "We were referee letting that one go. It became a bit of a kick in match." And you're thinking, "Hmm, it's the last thing you're reading, but unfortunately, I don't know, hopefully it'll be minimum." You know, that's what you're looking for. But you're looking a bad way when he came off. Barry, as you told me before, it's a big derby down there, those two. Is it? And you can imagine, look, Crawley, our league one, get promoted for league two. Listen, I just think the guy was a bit over the top. There's no doubt about it. I don't think the guy actually goes in to injure Matt O'Reilly. No. I just, no. I don't think he's just late. He's just keen at trying to press against a Premier League club. But hopefully it's not as bad, because obviously he's made the big move. And the Brighton fans will be desperate to see you, but Matt O'Reilly can bring it to the Brighton team, because certainly what he brought at the Celtic team, I think he's going to be a huge miss for Celtic. For sure. It's got me coming here as you know, he's on his way to Italy's off to Napoli for the medical club. I think for that place, I think it's a brilliant sign in for Napoli, £25,000. Have you looked at the midfield? Does it do go? I don't know. It granted things. He's energetic. He's had a real good size. He causes problems inside the opposition box. And I just think if it was English, he would be double the price. I honestly do. In some way, some like the Ballet Gilmore, he had a £10 or £12 million, and he's going to, you know, I think that's an absolute snip at the price he's now had this. It'd be great for us to end up with the two of them there, and you're playing the same team together, you know, then playing for Scotland together. Big Alec 10, Scotland, obviously he went down, obviously the story he's doing, the snow and all that to try and get him to come up and go with Scotland. And I can understand people who say technically no brilliant, but he's decent technically, but he's got all the attributes that they're going to buy, say they're Gatti. Gatti's not as physical, he's not as mobile, he's got, and he'll not score as many goals as he's got. So I'm looking to think, well, you've paid £54 million for him, and you've let him go for £30. I try and walk that out in my head, and it's definitely for yourself, my youngster from coming through your academy, like for this fair play with the money situation, but seemingly that's not the case. So I'm really, really surprised at that. Big move for Napoli to get him. Billy Gilmore, as well, is a chance bright, and I'll keep him, but he played brilliantly. Yeah, he wasn't involved last night. I was looking through the teams throughout this, maybe tell you that's a sign that he's close to going to Napoli. Again, I was so surprised with the price they were talking about for Billy Gilmore. I watched the highlights of the game against Manu at the weekend, and he looked to me if he was outstanding, you only see 10 or 15 minutes, but then you see the reports and he was the standout player in the game, so yeah, but it's great to see players, Scottish players, going through different leagues as well, and, as I'm saying, he has a tough league, but there's a lot of top teams and top players still there. Well, I think Lewis, but Lewis doing so well. That's brilliant for the Scottish likes. You're not just on the football field, the way he's conducted, he's all there in a tally, and all these different things. You know, he's done it remarkably well, and I think people would look at that now and think, "Okay, these guys can handle playing you," and that is right. I think it was going the other way, if it was Napoli, Billy, to Brighton, he's talking say it for him. Are we going to end up having to pay for him? Because that's your commitment, English league, and that's what they expect to pay. You know, going the other way, it's funny, because Kay's a similar to... How long are you? Yes, we'll see this. You're thinking, what are the top players in the last year as before he gets injured? Injury. You know? It could be a great move for a lot of people. Absolutely, it could be a 10 and a half million. Because he can play both sides as well. Yeah. He can play football background as well, but he looks really energetic, and he plays for Italy. Yeah. I think he's the player that can do something for him, you know? And I'm surprised that the event just wasn't quite well until he let him go. He, Barry, was one of the players of the tournament, was he just three years ago? Yep, he is. And as Grantage was mentioned, he can play off the right or the left, and he's fairly bins. Yeah, absolutely. He's a real team player, and when you look at that price, 10 million pounds, boy, again, when the money is getting thrown about for certain players, I think that's a great deal for Liverpool. Barry, what were you making about the chat last night which broke on all the wires, really? We spoke about it as well, about potentially investment coming into Rangers from America. I was getting that fire thrown my phone non-stop, there's this 150 million pound takeover. And then about 10 minutes later, I was getting fired through that it was not true. So, would you believe, I've not heard that in since. So we'll just let you wait and see if it's the case that obviously Rangers are always looking for an investment poll, there's no doubt about it. But when I seen it broke, I was interested in it here, then obviously, I think it was Dave King came out and released the statements saying that there was no truth in the matter, so you've got to take his word for that. Is he the main shareholder? Yep. What's your holder? 14%. Then it's Douglas Park. Yep. And he'd a bit of a good Douglas in it, but I think you know the history there, but he said John Bennett hopefully will do well, but they're in a difficult position. But Rangers do need investment, there's no question. So a lot of Rangers fans were on last night saying, "Where's it coming from? They don't care as long as the club gets a substantial injection of money." Yep, and first and foremost, when you listen to the Germans statement at the start of August, well, he needs to cut 10 and a half money. They can't keep losing 10 and a half money pound every single summer. So I think you've seen that when the player is leaving, they try to cut the wage budget, which is really, really high at Rangers at this moment in time. So John Bennett's trying, there's no doubt about it, he's doing everything possible to try and get the club back to where it should be. Janice Adji said in the last 24 hours that no time has he asked to get away, he's never said that, he wants to play for Rangers. We know there is a clause in there, I don't know what the clause is, but it costs more money if he plays. But he's such a good player, Barry, I know we've spoken about it a few times, but there's only just over 48 hours to go. What do you think? Janice Adji could be back. Again, you know what I'm like, I'm not on social media and I've got all sorts of people throwing things at me and through what's up and I read the statement and it was interesting that you see. But it's clear that the manager's decision, the manager clearly doesn't see him as part of the long-term plans and he signed a long-term contract, Paul, I think a year ago or so. And here's one player that you could get decent money in for. So it's just the way it's happened, but it looks to me, he's not wanting to go anywhere, he's wanting to stay in fight for his place. One thing I will say about Adji is he's shown a real good attitude, he's went and played in the beating in a few occasions and done pretty well, worked hard, scored a few goals. So that tells me his attitude's still in the right place, that's what you want. So we'll see you over the next couple of days if Adji does stay or eventually leaves because I've seen it was at Rapid Bucharest, had put on offer and he wasn't interested in going there. So we'll see. It's going to be an interesting day. Well that's not a problem. It was half the wages. So that's from, that won't be the problem as well because if he's here after the window, you're trying to be playing, if you're a ranger supporter and I know people will see another player as well. But you know Adji injury, he's proven in the euros that it can play. So you have to bring him back into the fold, you can't just leave him sitting there for Christmas time before he can move again, it'd be absolutely criminal. And it should be also doing that. Yeah, it should be also granted. I don't think you would have a problem because his attitude's been good over the last three or four weeks. As I mentioned, he's obviously trained well, he's been away with a beat team, they've played at the training centre, down the England they play as well, he's travelled. So if it doesn't harm or materialise the move, then I don't think it would be a problem coming back into the squad. That's massive. That's crazy. In respect to that, Paul, did you see the money that Ivan Tony apparently has been offered to go to Saudi? A three-year contract, £50 million. Let's take a corner for that this boy. It's just, it's beyond 50 million for three years. Of course, no tax. Do you sell your soul for that one? Yes. Where's the flag? I'm the wife. I'm the wife. I know. So what do you do? Do you stay in the Premier League with Chelsea? Yeah. Or do you go to Saudi? Exactly. What age is it, 31? I think he's... I'm not even sure he's old as well. He's not. He's in a late 20s study. The thing is, he didn't make any money early on, did he? Because he was late at Brentford, not in huge wages, he said apparently... You know, if he does decide to go to the Saudi Pro League, loads of people will be having a go at him. That's a short career. And that, that type of money that you've just said Paul is... It's like winning a lorry. What a lottery. He's better than that. He's better than that. I've not been disrespectful to him. He's better than that. And you've been, I'm sure England would like to see him stay in the nation. He's better than me. You know, it's... And of course, that amount of money is phenomenal. It's very, very difficult to know back. But, talent-wise, I'm sure he could play for any of the big guys as a striker. Yeah, he's 20. He's better than... He's better than that. He's better than that. Maybe he'll say it at this moment in time. 100% had been 30 for 50 million. You would. Well, that's what I said. I'd sell the rain as well. I was going to see the rain. It's packing now. What about Austin Trustee for Celtic? We've been talking about it for a couple of days, started to give, apparently, launched a £5 million bid for him at Sheffield United USA defender. You know, Peter, what do you think? I've seen a couple of times with the USA people. Oh, that's what I've seen them. You know, so, obviously, Carter Vickers. Yeah. I'm sure a five is a man's eye-basket. Carter Vickers, what do you think of him? We're looking for the centre-by. What do you say? On and off the pitch. Professional-wise, talent, obviously. It's a big part of that. So, if he's given the nod on that, I'm sure Brendan would be interested in that. I've not seen that much of him. I've always seen the games back here. But, as I say, if he's an American, then nationally, he must be decent enough anyway. But, as I say, we'll see what happens for that. Because, still, it will need to bring in cover. Yeah, I think it's an area they do need to strengthen the centre back here. And, also, he can play fill-back as well. And I was watching the highlight reel of him and playing for Sheffield United. Obviously, I had a good background when he's came for as a young kid. A good up-bringing, obviously, has something about him. So, you can see why he's able to get interested in him. There'll be more in the next few days, for sure. It's going to be fascinating, isn't it? So, it's always towards the end of the window. It's inevitable, isn't it? I mean, not always. And, Ang's got it done early in his first season, didn't he? But, he had to bring in whatever it was, a dozen players. And, for Rangers, it's about, what's going to happen? Who is going to go out? Where's the money coming in? They've got the wage bill down a bit. Yeah, that's a good background. How do you, do those can collapse at any stage? Yeah. So, you need to wait until it's signed? They can appear as well. Well, some of them come in for one of their main players and all for crazy money. Of course. I mean, people never expected Georgia to go for 25. Oh, we ain't at the time. You know, all of a sudden, bang. I see he's moving it. He's moving it. It ends? Yeah. You know, actually, I said, they must be getting half the money paid for it. That's two years. No, that's a year. It's only a year. Yeah, it's a year. That'll be a complicated one with the tax and all that. Yeah, absolutely. He's saying no, Paul. So, that's the problem you've got all over. Players used to be moving about from the football. Now, there's a lot of different things coming in. You understand that, because the finances are getting awful. This can quite incredible. And that's why I'm talking about Haji. If he's sitting there, why would I not use him if he's better than the group we have? And Rangers, they could end up losing Mattondo. If Wright goes, how many white players would they go? It has gone quite on Mattondo, hasn't it? It scored a couple of goals. You were there, Barry, at the weekend. But it looked a few days ago as they could be on his way to England. Yeah, to me, if there was a fair bit of interest in them. Dunwell, I've got a bonus. I used to be a Dunwell, but it was really fun. I was thinking about how poor Rose County actually were. But listen, you've still got your beeps in front of you. And Mattondo, he did it. He looked lively. A couple of goals. And he's another one, obviously. It's been spoke about being just paid, I think, three more. I mean, you rose for him a couple of years ago. So... It's a lot of money for a player that hasn't... Yeah, he just needed a way to see what materialises over the next couple of days, Paul. Because anything can happen. That's transferred on the '08, '08, '17, '17, '100s. We've got a message. What's that message from Kieran who's saying, "Peter, what about Mikey Johnson?" There's a £2.5 million offer from Sheffield United. Other English clubs want them as well. He did so well last season. Yeah, but the thing is, if I was making... Yeah. And I'm thinking of what he's done and whatever. If I was making now and I'm getting an opportunity to go, I think I would go because he's not going to be that starter for Brendan. He's brought a different wing as in as well. And that's where, as people say, he played through the centre and preseason. But he's not a centre forward. He can do that for five, ten minutes for you. But for me, if I was making now, I was representing him. I was saying, "This is the time you have to move on and go and make a name for yourself elsewhere." You've been to West Bromster at the House and Fire. Go and continue that now, we're getting more game-taking. You've got to play, haven't you? 100%. Yeah, and I think he's at that age where he has to go. No big guarantee. You're never guaranteed a game but have a better opportunity to play. Granted, you just mentioned it. He went down there, played in a month, scored some spectacular goals. It's a good division to play in as well. It's a tough division to play in. A lot of big teams, a lot of good players. I think it's time for him to go in and further his career. We're going to fire it up with you, too. You were at Rangers at the weekend on Saturday, Barry. You were at Celtic on Sunday. So is it 6-3 this weekend? Is that how it works out? What was it? I said 6-3 out, 8-3 out, 9-3. Ben off for that. Well, you would sell for that, would you? No, I said, Barry will tell you. He keeps hitting all the time, Paul Cohen. It doesn't matter who else you're playing prior to it. You have to turn up on the day. You have to play well on the day. Not necessarily well. You have to carry all that about a fortune. All the different things, performance is prior. I mean, absolutely, you're hogging into this game. Why is that with this game? It's because you know they're expecting, well, another time, probably. And because of the way we were brought up, we knew that it was meant, you know? And you never wanted to let anybody down. He was so desperate. He sees his face, honestly. I would draw it hopeless, and we were one. You know, that was the way it was. I don't care how badly we play as long as we were one. You know, maybe they're wrong. Maybe they're wrong for that, but that was the way it was. And I'm sure that doesn't change the support on now. But that's why you never get carried away with it. I've seen it before. If you remember the first one in the last season. Celtic went to eyebrows. It was like a party atmosphere at eyebrows. Up until. They thought they were turning up, Celtic were turning up for a doing. And if you remember, the back four, it started and the back four, it finished. The first Celtic that particular bit was Celtic won in the game. Celtic's back four was a rock. It was a two, well, not Welsh, Narrowski. Yeah. And I was like, "I'll be out of the course." That's right, because it was the end. And it was scales. Yes, scales. You know, there was other injury as well. Paul, I'm trying to remember the back four. But people always said, "And Tony Rawls end up playing right back late in the game as well." Because I think Alistair Johnson had just come back. And they were saying, "No, I'm never going to back four for Celtic." Rangers had the two opportunities early. They decided off-side goal, and then the one that was sort of free-kick. But then Celtic scored the world the right one half-time, with Kyogo. And that's how it changes Paul. You need that bit of fortune. So Rangers are going to have this hot favourites for the first time in a long time I feel. And it never worked for them. And that's exactly why I say, you can never predict these games during the day. Who handles it the best? And then moments you have to do it. And now I keep saying that, as I said, Alastair, I'd vat it out as well. Arnie Engle, Celtic of up-to-bid to 10 million this afternoon. So more than that, and more from Barry and Peter next. This is the Go Radio Football Show. Listen anytime, whatever you get, your podcast. Let's go! Evening. This time last night, John Hartson was here. And we were talking about, you know, transfers, Barry. You're right, things can happen. Remember, he had signed for Rangers. Ronald DeBoud arrived as well. Said, "I'll see you in 10 minutes." And it never happened. It just shows you, doesn't it, how it's never over until deadline day. Yeah, in Celtic form, come out and confirm it's signed and sealed. Then you can't take anything for granted. And that's why all they talk about Cantwell and Scott Wright. And Haggie, if you want to bring his name into the fold. Until I see it coming up and then standing with a black bum jersey and a bum hip jersey. And I'll just, I'll wait and be calm and see what happens. Because Rangers obviously need to let players go for them to come in. And I mean, imagine if that happens with these two players we've just mentioned. And I think you'll definitely see two or three come through the door. And the player asked you about it Monday night. And I know that it started. The sum of the manager said, "One player not going is Jack Butler." But he's probably the most valuable player at the club. Yeah, and again, Paul, every player has a price in their head. If somebody comes in and won't they pay 15, 20 more in pound for Jack Butler. Then I would imagine a club would have to seriously consider that. And you don't want them to consider it. Because Jack's a massive party, every team going forward. But just any team in certainly up in Scotland, my Rangers and Celtic, every player has a price in their head. We've got a bottle in there to do the other day. They say, "No, no." Yeah. Big save it, "No, no." And I keep saying that we can, about the goalkeepers who they've always got to produce. They say, "If you're going to win six, no." But you're the big save then. And that would have changed the atmosphere, especially at Hamden. If you go one nothing down against Rose Cooney at Hamden, then that's completely different. So that saves vital. And these are moments people forget about. And that's when Barry's talking about the prices. People say he's never worth 10 more. He's never worth... Yeah, they are. For that one save then maybe. That can be the difference. It's a concentration level, too. It's a concentration level, too. I'm telling you, play a Rangers and Celtic for Butler and this medical. They might only have one save to make during the game. Don't hardly touch the ball. Jack never touched the ball apart for that save for the few passbacks where he's got the ball out. He's beaten and spread a few passes. But that's what goalkeepers bring. Vital saves when they've got hardly anything to do during the game. Peter, question. If that was the only money coming in, big money for Jack Butler, would you take it? 10, 12, 15 million and buy the players that they really, really need? If he's the only big, syllable asset. No. Why? He's your best at this moment in time. If you've got a weak goalkeeper, I always think then that's you, Paul. Because in some games you're not going to play well. Whether you're Celtic or Rangers anyway, you're not going to play well and you're going to depend on the keeper to make a big save for you. And you'll see teams that even come second and third them, whatever. They'll have a keeper so they don't stand in season. They're seasoned, sorry. That's what happens because you need them. People always talk about the backbone centre-halves. Goalkeeper. Massive. Run about it. You can shift it about. That area's a massive Celtic. I don't think we can't have a record when he's out the team. Celtic will look a little bit weaker. And I don't mean that disrespectful in the boys that come in, but he makes the guys playing a lot with some better. Yeah. You know, and that's the slight difference you have. Darren Orange has fans on saying, but you've got Liam Kelly there. No, he's not saying he's Jack Butler. But he is an international goalkeeper. He's as good as Jack Butler. No. But would you... No, but he's still... No, and that's no disrespect to Liam. Because I just think Jack Butler's better and will make bigger saves. And that's not been disrespectful, you know? He'll have mistakes like everybody does. Yeah, sure. But I think the personality's maybe more important for Rangers just now. Because he speaks very well, Jack. Barry's been an addressing him with a major kid. I've seen his interviews. He speaks very well, you know? You've got to get people to come along with him. And I think if I was a major, I'd be trying to keep him and bring guys into trying galvanised Jack in the respect to that better players. That's the way you've got to do it to keep the guys there like that. Liam captains model, didn't he? And I know he's not Jack Butler and Barry, but if somebody comes in with a big bet... Well, what's a big bet? 10, 12 million. No chance. No chance. No. He's a top goalkeeper. He's a big character. He's got a lot of experience. That's what Rangers are lying. And that's why I've said about the new players that hopefully are going to come through the door are more experienced. So, for me, 10 million pounds. Absolute, no chance. Darren, there's your answer for me. Well, it's time to speak if you agree. If you're going to double that... Yeah. Yeah. But it's a different story. But there we are saying they're McCrory. When they come out... Playing. You know, Liam Kelly went from all over where he was playing, to dangerous to be a sub. And he said it's going to be... That's what you're saying, so... Of course. Yeah. That's the difference. What about the Scotland squad? It came in yesterday. We talked about it last night. It's not. People are not thrilled by it, Barry. So, we were calling for Connor Barron, Lynn Miller. Yeah. I'm disappointed that both the players that you've mentioned aren't in the squad, Paul. Now, I've watched Connor Barron at Rangers. But I went out and I should... He's really done better than I thought he would do. He's been probably Rangers best player. And I thought he just deserved the opportunity. I know he's on the 21 squad. I just thought, yeah, it would have nice to give him the chance in young Lynn and Miller. I don't care if he's just turned 18. When was it? Monday or Sunday? Yeah. Sunday. I don't care. The young man in my eyes is good enough. But when I look at the squad, yep, that's a pointy day two or not. And then you've got to remember, as four players probably stick out the arse. And missing from me. He came to you on the... Hickey. Parterson. Lewis. Ferguson. Yeah. And I would imagine Naifor would have been it also. And the quality that they've got, I mean, it's just... Yeah, they are. But come back to the two players that I would have liked to have seen both of them. I don't know if Grant agrees, but... I've been impressed with Barron. I thought he should have the right good attitude. I say, I'm a bit like Barry. Sometimes he goes all over the pitch too much to just play that central area. That's just a tactical point of view. But he's enthusiasm for the game and been able to go and play under the pressure. He's playing for Rangers. I think he's proven that so far. He doesn't hide even if he's not playing particularly there. He gives a ball away. And that's a good terrain. Just what you're saying there, Grant, two words out of my mouth. There's two or three occasions where he's got it and he's misplaced a pass. And then my thought is, right, I'm going to follow him. Five, ten seconds later, he's away looking for it again. That tells me he's got a bit about him. You know what? He's got a bit of balls about him. Yeah. And I like seeing that. And I see that every time I watch Sean Lennon. Looking back to this young man's, this young playwright model. For me, I think he's good enough. I really do. And so, yep, that's a point I didn't know she ate there too in the squad. I know, obviously, the four that I mentioned that are injured. They are big players, Paul. Probably two out of the four at a certain start. That's Stanley and Hickey. So, when I look at it, yeah, these are going to be two difficult games. Paul and... For sure. I think we'll go as well. Yeah, a wee bit more is we're getting a few players now not playing for the clubs. And that's our thing as well. That's what I was going to ask you. Because the manager says he likes to play players who are playing. Yeah, exactly. And then I forgot Colin McGregor, obviously. Yeah, of course, yeah. Yeah, we're going to huge. Yeah. But, Grant, you're right. I'll look at players. No playing. I know. Boris is not even playing it. What for the firm of correct? When I looked at the last couple of team sheets he was on the bench. You've got Zander Klatt. You've got McCrory. It's hardly, I don't know. No, he's not playing. He's not playing. And in a rousing. You've just mentioned Ryan Portis. Thank you, Max Johnson. You said Paul's not been playing either. Ben Dock. Yeah. Billy Gilmer wasn't playing until the weekend. Scott McToman, he's not been playing all the time for a man new. London Dikes. No been involved at QPR. He's just moved to Birmingham. So, yep. Look at this. Look at this. Right, right for you. Shit, Adams. I don't know if he started the weekend. He was on the bench. Yeah. And I thought we'd get away from it. We'd have a lot of players playing. I'd say 99% of them were all playing games. And I felt that was a big difference you had. And it's not easy for Steve at your pick. The boys are for no available, Paul. But I just think there's a... The three's brought in, like, gold, Morgan, Dock. And I don't mean they're similar, but they're all in some areas of the pitch. If you know what I'm saying. And that is, for me, it's not... I would definitely think Lenin Miller, who's playing and playing well. I said this, I thought he should have went to Europe anyway, even though he's young. I think he's one of the talent players getting a bit like Ben Dock, but he's not playing. He's not playing. But listen, bro, in the experience, and I just thought, even if you've not... You've absolute no chance, you're mind it, right? I'm not going to play Lenin Miller. Just bring him in, it's going to govern that experience. See how he competes against you. McTormany's in Ballygulma's enjoyment against you. Bally, Steve, Steve, he's really experienced, Paul. Bally, I'll tell you, he hasn't been a manager on that before. See, when you go on the training pitch, you take these young boys in. They even surprise you because they prove it, even in the training, they can play. And then all of a sudden, you think I'm playing him because he can play. But this group doesn't matter how young it is. He says he means nothing. You know, that means absolutely not if he's got the ability he can play. Look at the Eurofinal. Absolutely. Straight back to school. But he was asked about, well, staying on. I think maybe with Gareth Southgate going, somebody said, well, were you thinking about staying on or going? And this is such a reply. No, no. My contract. And obviously, I've always said, I'd love to go to a World Cup with my country. I've got a group of players that are determined to go to a World Cup with the country. And some of them will be their last chance. They'll certainly be my last chance. So, does your motivation there? Yeah, but how many people did you speak to? Name quite a few, how many? How many? Ten. But they're all pretty flat. There's lots of little things that they're going to make in a team in a tournament. It didn't follow their way. And you end up with a disappointment. There's too many little things that didn't come together. And what did he feel specifically in the Euro's went wrong? You go through the whole process from when you start, when you name your squad, the build-up, the preparation, did we do it right? We felt we did it at the time. Obviously, you think you've prepared properly. You can look back at little things. The games we played were the right games were the right opposition. Should have rested more to the players that had had a tough season. Should have gone more towards the starting lineup that we were going to play against Germany and one of the games. There's lots of little things that you think we could have maybe changed and done better. But it's easy to sit here with hindsight and think, "Oh, we did that wrong. We did that wrong." There's lots of little things that we probably wouldn't do or I wouldn't do again. But nothing dramatic. There's nothing dramatic. I said, "Oh, we got it so far wrong." It was a build-up. The most disappointing for me was the fact that we didn't turn up in the first half against Germany. That set us off on the wrong foot. And then from there, it was a fight to get back into the competition. A tough game against a really good Swiss side. And I think they proved that later in the tournament as well. We played well. We got the point. We could have nicked the win there. They could have nicked the win as well. To be honest, it was quite an open game. Certainly a couple of big chances for Grant Hanley to hit inside the post. It comes out when Fabian Schar could have scored in the last minute and made it even more difficult for us. And then you get to the last game. We've still got a realistic chance to qualify. The last game I thought Hungary played well. They played their game plan well. Their team were a big counter-attack. We knew as soon as the game opened up they were causing problems. We had to commit because we had to win the game. And then eventually you get picked off. And that's what happened. We couldn't find the moment to score the goal that we needed. You're over there. Yeah. You have to get over it. You have to move on. That's one thing. I think that's why I'm still in the game after 43 years. You have to learn how to move on. You sure are doing? We have to move on quickly because it's polling the week after next, isn't it? And then over in Portugal. O8, O8, 17, 17, 700 if you want to talk Scotland. If you want to talk the old firm for this weekend or any of the teams in the premiership or the championship. Barry, just listening to him there. That's the first time we've heard him really since the euros. What do you think about what he felt about what we did wrong? I think he's obviously looked over it and probably thought first game against Germany. I'm not saying it would have made a difference should they have started Bally. And the team, because when you're coming up against that at all pole position, when you do have the ball, I believe you need to try and keep it as much as you can. He's one of the players. Maybe also should they have played James Forrest at times who finished the season. An unbelievable firm for Celtic. So I'm sure he's been over quite a number of things in his head. And also it doesn't help when you do miss players, certain players who are certainly going to make you stronger. Like when it springs to Main Street, I mean, it's hickey for me. A top full back. It can play either on the left or the right. So yeah, I'm sure there's a lot of things. And it'll be interesting to see if he does go. He's back three. Does he change their back four? Does he see a different way going forward? And I'm sure we'll see in the 5th of September against Poland at Hampton, which is going to be a tough game for us. And then obviously you've got the game against Portugal away from home. So we'll see if he changes it tactically. I just thought there'd been another couple of changes within this world. As I mentioned, fresh out a bit with the younger players coming in. But listen, he's an experienced manager. If you strip it all back, he has done a fantastic job. Two tournaments in a row. He has. And I'm sure he'll be desperate to get it right. Because he came in for a fair bit of criticism. I thought some of it was over the top. When I look back at the Euros, it's the hungry game that disappoints me more than anything. It's that last 45 minutes where granted he's been a manager a lot longer. Now was when you go in half time, you get anything. Nothing, it's right. You know what? We'll get 45 minutes to go and have a go at them and win it and try and get an opportunity going to the further into the tournament. And I just thought we would have came out a bit more. But we'll be interesting to see what he does going forward. And I'm sure he will have a few things up, he's sleeved. Because listen, he knows the game inside out. We'll have to. Peter, what did you think? I think his preparation would have been second to none. I think there's no doubt of that. I think everything would be covered. I know there's some of the background staff there and Graham Jones and whatever for the medical point of view. So I've absolutely no doubt to define detail. I've known Stevie the way he is and the people he's worked with. Never mind what can he say on the renews and whatever. So he's seen all that. So his preparation would have been second to none. I go back to the first game. The Germany game. Yes. And I think the only thing I'd have changed was a striker. Sorry, that was only question Mark, who was going to be the striker. But I don't care who he had have played. I just thought the midfield should have started the way they started the same game. I'm not saying Billy Gilmore should have played the first game. I'd have played the same midfield. But what I'd have done was I'd have played McTormany. And again, not a little bit closer to striker and leave the striker further up the pitch. Because I keep saying it, Paul, I notice all the teams know whether the so-called smaller positions are put in pressure on the backlink as everybody's trying to play out. Germany could have played with a slippers on. There's no pressure on them. And nobody's told that they're full back there. So Tony Ralston, I thought came in for undue criticism because every time he received the ball, one of their players would close them down. They'd either have passed back or if he's looking forward to play forward, Earth's centre forward was on their defensive midfield player. So that's, it doesn't matter who you are. You know? And that's the disappointment. It's easy for me, certainly. But that is the only way. It started the way the second game. But John McGinn and Scott McTormany, of course, are the striker. That makes a hell of a bad deal, tell you. That makes it difficult. I'll tell you what, I thought Big Ralston did well. I thought he came on for it. You never played a lot of football. Yeah, yeah. Obviously, you're missing two. You're your first choice is Hickey. They back up to Ratz, Nathan Parson. Both of them are injured. I thought a big guy came in and done a good job. But you're going to miss the quality. There's no doubt team. They're getting injured as well. Doesn't he help? What are you expecting to say? Yeah, sure. What are you saying? There's a lot of these things Paul went against him in that respect. But I just think in that particular game, you give good players time. Barry will tell you. You were always told, you give good player time. They will look world-class. And that's what I feel. They could switch it for a left to right. They could play forward. Tony Cruz had a smoting jacket on. Yeah. You know what I mean? And I'm not just saying him. They're battling that first game in the tournament. Yeah, I always look at Scotland as a team. And I always look at the midfield. They're all good quality. Let's not kill their cell phone. I just don't think they get close enough to them. We gave them too much respect I thought. And you hear Stevie Klart saying that first 45 minutes was a disappointment for him. You give them, you give good players room. They're going to do one thing. They're going to damage you. There's no doubt about that. And that's what they certainly took advantage of that Germany. You both mentioned them a few moments ago. The manager paid tribute to Callum of Gregor. But also saying how he felt. I think he was surprised that he's gone from international duty at 31. A little bit. A little bit. A little bit at 31. I probably felt they had a few more years in them. But I'm not Callum. It was Callum's decision to make that call. And like I said before, we respect that decision. Thanks to Callum for his input over the years. Obviously was a key player for his. Disappointing to lose him. I'd disappoint for us that he's retired. But I respect his decision. No one else, no one else's indicated retirement. No one else's spoken about it. It's not for me to phone them and ask them are you going to retire. That probably comes across the wrong way. They have to contact me. But nobody. Everybody's determined to go and be more successful moving forward. This is the good radio football show. Listen anytime, whatever you get, your podcast. Let's go! Let's go home! This time tomorrow night there will be European action. Two games in Scotland. In Asia. Come on against Copenhagen. We all know, six months ago, we're in the Champions League. The two up. And Peter, that was such a shame, wasn't it? Especially the second goal. Both come in late, but it's the last kick of the game. Yeah, of course. As I said to you before, it'd be tough. You know, if they keep it down, you won or two. You've still got a chance. I look at Copenhagen, I think they've got good players, Paul. Any areas that can hurt you. They seem you've got players like that. No matter who defence or if we organise you. That's why the big teams have got these match winners. And I think Copenhagen maybe have one or two match winners. That will make it a difficult night for Kelly. Unfortunately. Barry. Yeah, I hope they do it. But I can't see it. It's like that last minute goal was a killer for them. I think if you were going in one note, it'd be a different mindset. But listen, you never know in European football. But I just look at Copenhagen in a half, get that bit. Extra quality. But I hope command look do do it. And if they do do it, what a result that would be a full house. It would be absolutely stout. Did you like playing there, both of you? Loved it. It was always a lovely grass pitch as well. I remember. Yeah. One of the best, wasn't it? And I remember when any games were offered, winter. When Baliard, Davy had up the manager. They used to phone Kelly right away, even though they were on the same league, they'd play a friendly. Is that right? Yeah. Because it was only a place because of the salt. What are they used to say? The puck was never frozen. Yeah. And they used to play a friendly down there. The pitch was making nothing as bad as he says. But you know, that's the boy that went on to be the Ipswich groundsman. What's that? Yeah. Then, ten over, George's part, is it St. George's part? Oh, yeah. He done all that. He done all that and done all the pitches the same gentleman. How could he? He could have. He used to be dangerous. He used to be dangerous. He used to be dangerous to start with. What? And he's down helping him. He was a lover of my head. Right. But I have a word. We're going to go the lights. We'll talk hearts in a minute. Yep. It was always a fantastic, always a fantastic pitch. And nicely he had next season. Not getting back to grass, isn't it? Can't wait. Let's go in the lines. Ross is on a Celtic family. He's in a moment or two. Hi, Ross, good evening. Hi, guys. How are you doing? Paul, are you all well? Yeah. Evening, Ross. How are you about? I'm all right. I'm good. I'm good. I'm excited for the weekend. I'm about nervous as well. How do you feel? I was at the end of the fringes. I'm getting excited about it. Oh, wait. It's coming. Yeah. No, Ross. I think I hope there's no way it's coming soon. Oh, Ross. Yeah. Ross, what are you thinking? So, VA, our valley is in from Barcelona for a year on loan. Yeah, I'm actually not today. I'm very, very happy that we've managed to secure another left back. I don't really know much about the body, but again, you see YouTube clips and you can make anybody look good on YouTube, I suppose, doing this. So, we'll see how it goes. I'm glad that I said we've just got another left back in. There's two boys that I think we should be looking at. Now, one of them is realistic. The other one is maybe pushing a battery, but I don't know if they can pull it off. And the two boys I think say I like to go for before the weekend is I would go for a lead at the boiling level. Same level. Yep. I looked at trying to take him in as a replacement for the position of what I'm at. I'm at a railway, isn't it? I know the boy, Miller, might need about a lot done in terms of to get up to the standard, to be Celtic regular, but again, I think that's something that we could pull off. And then I heard obviously today that the boy, Matt Simmels, has now been linked to be real. So, said Dad has now pulled out. I don't know if that's something that's Celtic. You then have a conversation with him. We something like Matt Simmels regarding also the champion. We get experiences, but I think they've been massive for Celtic. And I would love to see something like that come in. And he is a free agent as well. So, we don't need to pay a fee for him. Peter. It was funny because a couple of years ago, Rangers played the member and Rangers beat him four over there. And I thought he was finished. I must admit, I thought it was the poorest I'd ever seen him playing, but in saying that, I can, you played right back that night. And I had been played as well playing right back that night. And he ends up going to Manchester, saying being an absolutely brilliant for him. Matt Simmels experienced a rate 100%. I'm not sure that's the route Celtic will go down. I'm not 100% sure not. But I agree with Lennon Miller for me. I think people would be surprised. I think he would have an effect in the team, whether he's starting all the time. But it gives him a learning experience working under the manager, working under, working with good players. I'm not, they've been disrespectful to him. All of a sudden, it's another level. These boys are on. And I think that would definitely be a good sign-in for them. And at the price, which you would think is a good price because I believe that it's only going to get directly by him, you know, for sure. I think he's got all the tools. You've got to, you don't never know how the guy at the far, these guys can go. He's definitely got all the tools that you can feel as if he's going to get better and better. I said a few years ago, but Ferguson, before he went away, when he was at Aberdeen, I said, I would sign him. Yeah. People didn't think, because he played a different role as I said this season before. Everybody was saying, I said, "That's when it's still him because you'll get him for less." That was my idea, you know, sort of thing. So I definitely think sometimes we're shy of that when we see players on our own, especially young. And I think Brendan and I all know he's a good player. I think that's absolutely no doubt. You can, any coach in the Premier League will tell you when the Miller can play, you know, but there's only Celtic probably. I'm not saying Rangers, but if Rangers can bring some money in, there's only Celtic probably Rangers that could afford. Barry, we talked about it a few times. Rangers may have gone for Lyndon Miller. And we said Celtic as well. I'd take him to help me. I can't understand why both Rangers and Celtic haven't registered their interest. Maybe quietly they've done it. I think he's ready. I know he's only just turned 18 at the weekend, but he's ready for me. I've seen enough of him. He played regular last season. And even the season before when he broke in, I've seen enough in the young man. He has all the attributes you want. And if he comes in and plays as Grant mentioned, we're better players than that. It's not been this respected model. I think he's only going to go up levels. But I get worse, he's the homos. Yeah. I don't think you can buy experience. You need experience in there, but I don't think that's Celtic's model. Yeah. That's what I would say. You know, about that. I think there's no doubt he's a talented boy. I don't know where he is. He's fitness like he's never got selected for Germany. I'm correct. I remember watching that game you said when obviously Rangers... Terrorized. I battered him and I had that thing. He's coming at the end, but he's went and played on. Yeah, he's got all the experience in the world. He's a top class then on the bike. Well, his Dortmund for a long time then went to Bayern. It never really worked out at Bayern and then went back. Yeah. You know, to Dortmund, it was excellent for them. I know he was a big disappointment in the fact that he was left out there. The Germany group, it was a big disappointment there. But there's no doubt he's a talented boy. But I don't know if that's embarrassing. The model itself. The model, it can be the exception proving the rule. Because, you know, Celtic loads of money. The model works well. But sometimes be pragmatic if it's the right player at the right price for a period of time. I'm not sure. I know it sounds crazy. I'm not sure Brendan would play him over front. In front of his two boys he's playing just now. Even though he's a really good defender. I'm not sure Brendan would look at and think he's got that. Well, we can play right up in the halfway lane and the throwbacks farther up the pitch. And he's got that space in behind to recover. I'm not sure he would think almost could still do that. Ross, what would you say? I would say, obviously, we keep obviously talking a bit expedient for the Champions League. Don't get me wrong mate. We'll have to get my next bit. It's last but I'm not expecting himself to get inside in Sunday at 15-20. I mean, that's just never going to happen. And I think if we got free agent and angry at expedient, he's got with Germany and Dortmund. And obviously they never won the Champions League. No, they never won the Champions League. They got to the same extent. No, they did win the Champions League. No, they won the Champions League now. No, they could beat the final down there. They could beat the final down there. They could beat the final down there. In their favourites, but they are not good in the final. No, they could beat the final down there. So why are you going to be in a team? Something like that, I don't understand. But the one they're letting Miller, for me, just rebarice it. He is ready to make that step up to play for Celtic oranges. And I think personally, it reminds me a bit a lot worse there, because when I was Aberdeen, he was the up-and-coming midfielder. And I don't know of Rangers. They're never making me wrong on the event event. I don't think they did. Yeah. And now you're talking Noins to get them. And I think that's the same situation we're letting Miller. If Celtic don't make a move on him, in years to come, we might sit back and go, "What, I've read made that move for him?" And I'd be asking, "I think he is ready." And if I've done it before, but even tumble, why come in order to get rid of Miller? She would now look at letting Miller. I think he's got all the ingredients to be top level. I just look at him. He's a major investment as well. And I think you're looking at Tomoean Quid. I don't know about that. That kind of ballpark figure. And if he improves over the next couple of years, what are you going to sell him for? He may want to stay at motherboard for another season, because he knows he'll play. Yep. Yep. Would he play itself? Well, I think I don't know him personally. But I've heard them do a few interviews. I've heard the manager. Stuart Catewell speak about him. He's a very well-balanced young man. And I think he's got the belief of a went here, and he's just a Celtic. I think he would have the belief in him. You know what? I'm going to get in that start in '11. That's the kind of character that I think he is. And there's also a difference now, Paul, because of the amount of subject he uses. Yeah, sure. It's not as if you only get two, something you may be not going on. You're almost going to the same time. You're almost going to the same time. You're almost going to the same time. You're almost going to always change two. That's sent to the midfield players. Yeah. During the game so he can maybe start and come off with the base of it. Ross, give us two names. Who do you want in the Champions League? I'd like us to have a Cracket Man City, and I'd like us to have a Cracket Real Madrid again. Again, I just think if you're going to be in the competition, why not play the best? Yeah, yeah. Here, here. Here, here, here, Ross. That's exactly what I'm going to say. You're not listening, James. I'm just a producer. It's your opposite of you, Ross. Another Cracket Man City in Real Madrid. Yeah, absolutely. Listen, we're going to have to take the news. Ross, that was a really good call. Thank you. Thanks, Ross. Hummels and Miller. Yeah. One you go. One you go. He's gone. Just lost him. Thank you. We'll get the news next. And then we're back. And we will be asking the guys who would you like to see in the Champions League for Celtic and the Europa League the following day for Rangers. This is the Go Radio Football Show. Listen live. Weeknights from five. On go. Let's go. This is the Go Radio Football Show. Listen anytime, whatever you get, your podcast. Call. Oh, wait. Oh, wait. 17, 17, 700. Let's go. Let's go. Let's go. Football well and truly back. It feels as though it was never away over the late spring and summer with the Euros. And we heard Stevie Clark speaking about it. That game with Germany was just the worst possible start for us. You had Peter and Barry speaking about it. And the first half a bit more in the second. But when there's the old firm derby, Barry, we're never too far away from talking about lineups. What's it going to be? What's the score going to be? It's best game in the world for you. Yeah, we thought I'd out. As I've said as many times, Paul, it was a privilege to play in so many of them. Even better when you win. And I still had a build up when I've obviously retired. I still get edgy, get nervous, get excited. It's just a mixture of emotions. So, yeah, looking forward to Sunday. Been trusting to see what way the manager approaches it. Does he go man for man? Does he sit very deep in trying to sell it in the counter attack? So, yeah, looking forward to Sunday to see how what personally it goes with and what way approaches again. As we know it's healthy, it's going to do it. I don't think it's healthy, it's going to change. So, there's not going to be any surprises from that part. And I think I can probably name 10. It's healthy, it's certain starters. Only 10. Only 10. But I could give you the 11. I mean, it was. Peter's flying a drone on my next time. I guess that'll be it. Peter, that's absolutely true. I just had to call what the team will be because it hasn't been settled. He's saying more players. Maybe we'll go in the next couple of days and more to come in. All the Celtic players to come in as well. And we heard today about Valley coming in. But they're not going to start, are they Celtic? Or are they? Steve Robinson said some other day, Celtic are predictable. I understand what you've seen there. Yeah. But also disagree with it because I think the midfields not predictable in the respect of the personella, but the way they play is not predictable because of the movement. If you pick up a midfield player, which you would normally do then, pullbacks in that space, and that's hard to play against. We all need different changes. You have to try and adjust to it. And nobody's really found that. And that's why I think Celtic do better. Celtic prepared to win this match. Rangers prepare, I believe, to stop Celtic. And I think there's a difference in that. I know the mind just said that after the baller count, she's going to be Celtic, part two win. Of course, I think Rangers, mind just goes to Celtic, part two win. And every Celtic, mind just goes to eyebrows to win. We understand that that's the mentality you've got to have. But going and doing that, the proof's in the pudding. But I think that's been the difference. As I say, they try and stop Callum McGregor. But there's other guys that can hurt them. And I think they've maybe concentrated too much on that. No matter how good Callum is, you have to find a way that you can try and hot Celtic and Rangers have not found that. You can loan me that continue. But I genuinely believe that build up this because of what Celtic can do. If you look at the two squads, and that's before anybody else come in at this moment, nobody could argue Celtic if they're stronger, and stronger team. They absolutely don't doubt that. I agree. It has started the season. Yeah. Better. And a stronger squad. Celtic's stronger. Yeah. I think, listen, the manager's been hoping about that. He wants to strengthen it and help that they can't squad there. But there's a nucleus, a good place at Rangers. They just need a bit of help, man. And hopefully that will change. Probably over the next couple of days. We're going to chat about the Champions League and the draw for that coming up tomorrow. Of course. And then a Champions League armpits. You straight to Europa League. And that'll be it Friday. They don't know what a Champions League means. We've all been excellent. Oh! That's all we need. Play the competition. Let's see if there's any clue from the managers from the weekend. This is what Brenda Rogers thought of the Celtic win 3-0 at St. Maren. I think the attitude in the conditions was very good. It started the game well. A good control of the game. Good connections all the way through the team. And obviously we get the first goal from that. And when you play against that system, it's very much a game of switching the play. And we did that very, very well. So, yeah. Now scored two really good goals. Or three really good goals. And I think the third one as well was particularly pleasing with the runs and against that sort of back-five system. And Ali finishes it really well. So, I think overall we played this system very, very well. Concentration was good in really difficult conditions and kept the clean sheet. And Peter, I think you'd want to mention somebody who was outstanding at the weekend and play a big part on Sunday. And Alan's on asking about him. Real Hitati. I thought it was excellent. Really did. I just thought he'd seen passes. You could actually see it when the ball was arriving at his feet. He was already on the move. The ball was coming in. And he would play the pass. And good players might be able to tell you midfield players like that. And what's the rate and goal is a striker because you're looking up and people take that extra touch and then you're caught offside. And that's why Kiyogo when he's playing loves playing with Atati also. Because it's his first look and the conditions were terrible as I say, but it was like the end of November, another minute and it was, but Celtic was so slick in the first half. Moved it really well. Could have scored more goals. The movement. And I was interested to see Bernardo because of how he was filled in when Matt is. Because it's a difficult position to play. Because the rotation as I talk about sometimes, he spent probably more time at right back because Alistair Johnson drops out or goes forward or steps inside. He picks a ball on the right back area in the same way as Atati in the left back area. And that's what I'm saying. It's difficult to pick the guys up, the midfield players up. And you give Atati that space. And the thing I liked about Celtic, they mixed it. They know it went new, they put a couple of passes into play through. But they also know when it went a wee bit more direct without first pass. And they'd done that time and time again. It could have been a barrel load in the first half. Obviously quite doing a lot about the second half. But Atati was outstanding. Along with a lot of other players in top performance as well. It sure was a bit more from the manager on Celtic's performance. Well, that's the mentality. That's the... Because obviously I think the game probably today from St. Mearm was to, you know, restrict maybe ask to some counter attacks and offer them to have counter attacks and set pieces. But we give away very few. Set pieces we hardly defend. We defend it really, really well against a big team. And didn't have too many counter attacks against us. So that tells you the team very much connected and concentrated. And had that conviction when we pressed the game. 24 hours earlier, Rangers are 6-0 win against Ross County. And it's true, Barry. You forget, don't you? There was a good early save from Jack Butler. Because you think 6-0, it's all one-way traffic. But they did have a chance early on. It shows you the value of the goalkeeper. The manager spoke about the Rangers win afterwards. Yeah, this season, yes. Last season we had also a few like that. So yeah, like we said last week, I see the team growing. Individually, several players growing in their role. What they need to do, understanding the details in their role. But also as a team in movement and moving together. So the team is on the right track. We're only, yeah, end of August now. So there's still a long way to go. And like I said, I expect the best Rangers to see in October, November. I know people maybe didn't like that that moment that I said it. But it's a logical thing. We're rebuilding new squads with a lot of new players. And they're taking the right lessons and the players who were here. They're also hungry to become better and to learn all the details. So, yeah, in that way it's a very positive after noon. And the best examples for me are in that way Cyril and Robbie because they were here last season. But they're making the right steps because they understand all the details more what we were working on last week, last months to make them more decisive in the last part of the field. So that's what I want to see more all season. The very sixth on Saturday. It'll be very different on Sunday. What are you thinking about the 11 who started at the weekend? I know we need to wait and see what happens. But how many of them do you think roughly would be in seven? Probably, yeah, eight or nine I would probably go for Paul. As I said, yeah, Jake made a good save early doors. But they were an easy street Paul. They were once they got that first goal. It was just waves of attack. And there was some really good performances. As I said, John Connor Barren, again, impressed. Yefti at left back seems to me now he's getting more used to the Scottish game, playing in a left back position, done pretty well. So, yeah, it will be interesting to see what personally it does go with Paul and obviously what way approaches the game. Because Rangers need to come away with something from the game. There's no doubt about that in my mind. It's going to be absolutely massive. You don't want to go behind five points. No. I know it's really early in the season, but you need to come away with at least a point from Celtic part. See, and Ramsey's still the, I'm thinking, former Rangers player. He was there for a wee while when you went all the way to the final. Craig Bellamy has named him, staying on as captain. Seems a while ago, doesn't it, Barry? You know, when Rangers went to Seville. Yeah. And yet, it's not that long ago, but so much has happened. It's going to be quite 40 hours or so for Rangers to see who can they get in. But you reckon there's still be a couple of players. Yeah. I've no doubt there will be players coming through the door, Paul. I've no doubt. Even if one of the players that I've mentioned toward Cantwell has got right, it doesn't happen. I still expect Rangers to do something. At the back, you'll be hoping that the baller can injury is OK. Well, he spoke about it, it was just a blunt neck and whatever. It's always worrying when you see a player lying down from a challenge inside the box. But it looks to me, hopefully, that it'll be fitting available because you certainly need them about the squad, Paul. Is it a good experience? You want ballergan? And every time he's put the Rangers jersey on, he's always impressed by it. Shall we talk quite a few people around asking who do you think is going to come out the hat? Who would you like to see Celtic up against in Champions League? And who would you like to avoid? And the same for Rangers. In the Europa League, it's going to be eight games as well. So it's a different format. So it's very different, Peter, isn't it? That you're not playing the same teams twice? You've got some of the names there in front of you? Just about every one of them household. I don't know how it works, Paul, because obviously some on a different section, you can only draw X, Y and Z. But in an ideal world, I would like to see if it's possible. I'm not sure if they're in the same port and they can't do them together. I'd like to see some there like Bayern Munich because I had them in the Testimono, and I'd love them to come to the club, but I'd like to see them for a change. Harry Kane. And Tim Milan. Some there like that. Obviously Celtic 67. All these things. And then you look through them all. So clubs there, especially the big names, leather, pearl, man's city. You've got brilliant names there. Real Madrid. It's Barcelona. You're talking about a hell of a lot of winners when you look at it. You know what I mean? Not just people that's staying partner, but there's a hell of a lot of winners in it. AC Milan. Yeah, yeah. You look at them all. You've got let to go Madrid again. You've got Dortmund. You've got Barcelona. All these guys are playing really well. Villa. All these ones. But as I said, I don't know the way they split the group, so you get them. But traffic, traffic teams. I agree with the call I said earlier about playing the big guns because if you're going to play these games, you have to learn how they're going to get them. And if we play the big guns, there's always an opportunity in a cup type. Barrio always tell him, "Well, this is a self-exposition when they get beat Barcelona. Was it something like 20% or something when they beat Barcelona or 21?" Yeah. And that can harm. And you never know it. And that can galvanize everything in European football. And it gets you through. And what an opportunity. That would be fantastic if you could do something like that. But it's good that you've got four at home, four away. And you're not playing the same team twice. So for those who support us, it's great as well because you get to see different teams. Barrio, we haven't even mentioned Liverpool. We've chosen who've been amazing last season, Liverpool, Man City. Oh, we're about to come to Liverpool. We've given them a lot more pay on that. They're the huge names there as well. It could be John McGinn. If it was Aston Villa, that would be a really attractive game, wouldn't it? Oh, they're in the Champions League, isn't it? Yeah. I'm still in Champions League. Barrio's allowed to talk Champions League as well. You've sort of been smart. You know what I've played in it. I've been there as well. I did that. He's back on the training field. Good. So that's good to see. So hopefully in the next couple of months, you'll see him back playing. But yeah, you'll look at so many teams. And that Champions League excites you. Here's a footballer and you're looking at some of their badges. If you kind of get excited with that, they're better than chucking it in you. Exactly. For sure. But there's some good teams in there. You're all pulling against me. We're welcome to that. And let's hope hearts are in there. We touched on Commander Kelly for hearts. They could do it. There's only one goal in it. Yep. And again, you know, it was a soccer blow last kick of the ball and no gee, Paul. But they've got to be looking to get their self-bank track hearts. And I look at hearts and yep, you understand why you said man and why you come on up. Maybe I've struggled slightly on a command that I've get through. But you look at hearts, squad hearts are a club that I've got a big enough squad to cope with. And I would expect hearts to win tomorrow night. If they don't, I think the pressure mounts on Naze. Do you think? Yeah. And I know he's just signed a new contract. And like it's born, he's started with his F because I thought last season he came through a sticky patch at the start of the season. And they really kicked on. And when I look at hearts, hearts have got some really good players. But it's been a real disappointment that start to the season. When I watched the first game of the season again, Rangers. I thought the first state it mounts, they were really good against Rangers. And they've just tailed off a bit. So tomorrow night is a big one for hearts. Peter, what do you think? When you look at the squad, Paul, look at them, they've not been funny. I think they've got a stronger squad, Rangers. Throughout, if you look at all the players, they've got, you know, with experience, they've got to play in the league. And other leagues, I'll look at them and I think. And you've seen that in the first game. Rangers came as a new team in the biggest problem. I think, if I'd have been Stephen, I'd have been bailing it and that. And that is a call he called a bit more for you. Oh, you've done that. I remember he said he was winning a league. Oh, yeah. You've got to draw against the team. It's starting, yeah. You know, you learn that very quickly. And I've not won a game since. So, but I'll look at it. And I just think, if you look at the plan, your league experience I'm talking about throughout, if you look at the squad and you think, I think hats have slightly got a stronger squad to pick from. I'm Rangers at this many times. They've got a good squad. They don't think it's as strong as Rangers. But they've got a good squad. I just, I expected more free hats. I do it. And I'm sure in these, he's frustrated. Yeah. He's frustrated because they have to get players. I mean, if you look at Danda and, um, where's the level? Yeah. There's two standouts I thought, I know both, uh, I know Ross County struggle last year, but he was a standout player. I thought it was going to be a really good signing. And then you like it obviously. The, the, the back three good experience to experience goalkeepers. But you've got boys, you've got Shankland. I've just about to say that, you know. You've got four. This is back. Yeah. That's guys it can damage you. But that's what I'm saying. So for me, that's why I'm saying I'll look at them. I'm your league experience wise. I think you'd look at that now. And I think they would be stronger than Rangers as a squad. They need to win. I think if they don't win tomorrow and then they've done the United at 10 car. So I'm done the United, Jim started. Yeah. It's pretty well. Yep. So that's the way it becomes a big win. I think it becomes the big one because it could do it tomorrow. People are thinking, oh, you're going to come up. Don't you need to have just come up. I know. Don't you need to get a result last week against St. Johnson? So they've got a result in the bag as well. All these things. And you definitely need to get a result. I'm not even saying I'm not really bothered but no scoring many goals. But I didn't realise Paul. Mother will score more goals than hearts last year. Is that right? I didn't know that. I didn't know that I had that. I'm maybe wrong about him. That on the radio the other day there. The mall that scored more goals than hearts last year. I couldn't believe that. You heard that up at the beat. Maybe that was it. No. It's about three days for the hearts. Sure. It is. As it should for them. So Europa League will have it on Friday Paris. So hearts could be in there. Rangers in there. Well you weren't for the coefficient. You weren't hearts and come on look to get through. Yeah. Who do you fancy coming up against? I just wanted to stick to it. Yeah. Man, you're amazing again. Yeah. You want that? You look it for Nabachi. What's your merino? Yeah. I look at it. Imagine having the touch line jumping up and down. Yeah. I mean, this is Gala Tasteride. This is Roma Taroce who I played against. A fantastic player. There's Leon. You betum told the man just in tracks like this. Well, a bit going on. Yeah. I know. That'd be a one. Welcome. That'd be brilliant, wouldn't it? And then, is it Tash? Do you? Of course. One of the Rangers manager. I know they're on their playoffs. So yeah, there's some exciting ties. Certainly. Peter, you like to look at some great names there as well, aren't there? Really? Listen, Paul. The European Games are great. Ajax. You know, but he likes it. Yeah. All these guys, you know, Leon had a great run for many years, didn't he? And you're looking at that. You look at Malmo. But I've seen Malmo in there, and I'm thinking back to you. Has it done you need to have played Malmo and all these? Isn't that the particular times? Yeah. Malmo was probably the top team at that particular time. And got dressed and it was at Sven Gordon-Eriksen, it was a manager. Yeah. And that particular time. You know, so all these teams, it's listened. They've all worked really hard. Frank Fartner in there again. Rangers obviously played them in the final. Sign them up here if you want to give them a, you know, a doing. Yeah. Because they put you out. Yeah, of course. Yeah. Yep. Man, you taught them that there's, um, fair and a batch of baziktas. Have they got through a dynamo? Yeah. Flatshow, Leo. I mean, Poto. Poto. Yep. That was a lot of good games. So hopefully Rangers get good draws. And you said some little bit grand to mention about sell taking the Champions League. You want to come up against the best ones. Great games. You want to test yourself against the best managers and the best players. Athletic club as well. Athletic club, as we call them. Has it changed that Peter? Yeah. Yeah, the athletic club. They've done a fantastic thing in the great building. Yeah. If you remember, when I got dressed and we lost them. They've done a fantastic tribute, you know, on the part with the supporters and whatever. And it was excellent. So that would be something as well, you know. Obviously Rangers, big clubs, Paul. We don't appreciate how big we do. Because we're involved in the game and whatever. But you don't really appreciate it. You see them the passion that these supporters have got for their football clubs. And that's what makes football great. And they came to Glasgow just over a year ago for James Forrest Testament. Absolutely. Absolutely. A good side. They moved to the ball very quickly. You know, all these teams, Paul, are top players. You see them all. You don't know much about them all of a sudden. You look at the Spanish team and you see athletic clubs. It's got X, Y and Z amount of players on it. Yep. And you realize how good they are. You know, so that's the thing. Champions League, Peter. But one of Barry's favourite places, Monaco. Absolutely. They're standing down there on the rascals. Yeah. To bonus, I didn't enjoy playing there. It's too quiet. Yeah. No, it was eerie. They stayed there. You don't get big cries really, do they? No. You're lucky. No, I think it was. No, but we never even had that. I think it was a vast majority. It was Rangers fans at home. And so they stayed there. It was just eerie. Just weird. The pitch was no great, you know. No. That just never gave it. Yeah. It made us back for the... Incredible pull. It made us back for the Olympics as well. Because it was also Council wonder. Okay. They were working so hard. It was a bit difficult. It's a bit difficult. It's a bit difficult. Hang on, get swimming pools in that pool because they like that. That's right. And say that for the community, because it obviously won't. There's a two-mail, wading, two-mail. Hi. Not very big. Something like that. It's when you're walking around in the morning. Yeah. Don't even walk around here. Get your chauffeur down here. Looking forward to the European Games. Which we will keep you right up to date Thursday and Friday this week. And then transfer a window. Friday night. Then we'll get Jim on and Friday. Shall we? We'll get Jim White on and Friday to join us. Yeah. He got me. Yeah. He got me. I think he's on busy. I have come on. I think he'll come on for us. He did the John Hartson night. Yeah. Just a few nights ago in Glasgow. He hasn't he? He's everywhere. Washing these money. Back after this. This is the good radio football show. Listen anytime, whatever you get, your podcast. Let's go. Let's go. Let's go. The go radio football show, Paul Cooney. Along with Barry Ferguson and Peter Grant tomorrow night. Andy Walker will be here. And Craig Moore will be joining us, Mark. We will be with us along with Barry on Friday. Sunday Peter. You'll be doing the game. I take it. Yes. I'm looking forward to Paul excited. The devs have kicked in, obviously, you know. As soon as that game finishes Sunday, you're already thinking about preparations going very late. Could you sleep the night before the big or any game, but especially the interest game? No one I slept before was my debut, believe it or not. Yeah. Because I didn't know. After, of course, that the next day. The next day. You were playing for 50,000. I didn't know. Good job, I didn't. Paul, that's all I said. But that was only one. I got a good sleep because I didn't think I was. Obviously, I wasn't involved because I was only about 17. I was playing with the reserves against the ugly. So after that, it was the same for the rest of them. Everyone of them, they were always uptight and nervous. They didn't want anybody down. That was all the things you would show your head. Unfortunately, they did a few times. So, that's life. I always remember it. Barry, I was outside with the kind of radio car thing before the game Richard Park said, "Oh, to Paul, can you? Let's get the ladies' news, the old firm, Darby." And I said, "Big news, Rangers get Jimmy Nickel with playing." Last game. It was his last game. Before he back to Toronto, get sent off. He did. We didn't know that. That point when we knew he was playing. And Celtic are fielding a 17-year-old, a youngster called Peter Grant. They thought there'd be no Barry. You'd been here. You were just allied. Maybe you were at the game and then Peter was the boss. I was the boss. I was the boss. Let's not see when it was. I've seen nothing. Yeah. It must not be ages, but it's funny how it goes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Save the game. This week. You got a big birthday? What day? It was in August. Oh, but what? I'm always just there. It's awful. Funny that, isn't it? So he's 50 on the 30th. I wish there was. We talked about, you know, how it's sometimes unexpected games. We talk about the 6-2 and the 5-1 quite often. Any other games you remember when you think, yeah, when you thought, I think we might struggle today and you played. Yeah, there was a few. Yeah. Your phone's a bit sticky, Paul, and there's a few players who are formed. You maybe will form yourself when you go in. Unless you've always got it again with a mindset that I'm going to want it. But you're always in the back of your mind. Well, we're known as the best day of form. And you come out the game one and play it comfortably. It's very strange to put your finger on it. But the biggest one, as you mentioned there, Paul, we went to Celtic part and we get absolute run over. We couldn't get near Celtic. And I remember that week after training was very dumbing gloom. And a few home trusts were told. And then, four or five weeks later, we played Celtic, and we went Celtic down the edge. We ran over the top of them. Yeah, see the 6-2 game. Did you not go in as favourites? Even though you were away from home. Have I got that wrong thinking back? Yeah. It was a high possibility that could have been the case, Paul. I can't actually think back with the 4. I mean, I don't know what the form was like before the games. But I've come in. Maybe, let's say you're 6 games in this season. Maybe you're always expected to win over the game. So you've won four, lost one drew one. And maybe sell it at one, all six. Then you've got at the seventh game. And then we would obviously win the game. We're Celtic. Well, we're favourite. So we're playing the better football and vice versa. We would go into games where we were the formed side. Thumping teams, putting four and five past teams. And then we would come out and end losing. It's just who turns up in the day who starts there. I'm a big believer in it. It's how you start the game. I was always told that as a young guy coming through. It's how you start it. And you want to try and get a foothold as early as possible. Because if you let the other team get a foothold in the game and then they put you under pressure. And then if you're certainly away from your home and then you score and the crowd's behind them. They get a huge lift for that. It's always, it's always tough. But there has been other factors when I've played and we've been under pressure and we've come out the game. No playing well at all. They've come the way we are pointing as well. Which is important. Sure. Peter, what game did you enjoy most? I always came back just to the Cup final, because it was a dream in '89, because it stopped Rangers winning the treble. And maybe Joe Miller scored. Not enjoy it, because you know it's the same, Paul. You never really enjoy it to the final whistle if you have won. Because you went into that season as double winners. Correct, Jake? You won the Cup and in the centenary. And then you went up on that, either. Well, you know where you're going. Because you went up against Rangers, didn't you? It started the season and I broke Sunday and lost. But anyway, to the Cup final. So Rangers' favourites. Yeah, but also getting into that, you thought. But we played really well on the day. But if you remember, we Joe scored and then Big Derek Waits clears one rate off the line straight after it. And then I'm a coiss-misses fee under the bar for about four yards out, which was very unusual for him in a Celtic Rangers match. The desert. And I mean smashed it under Rangers then right over the bar. It just dropped him and you can just see in front of him the time stood still. Wow. And he's missed it. But we played really well on the day. But Rangers were getting in as obviously favourites, going for the treble. And we were getting in a lot of pressure on because of the fact we'd obviously won the double a year, as you say before, and won nothing that season so far. So it was a massive game for us. That one sticks out. But Barry's right. There's a lot of games you're not only playing particularly well, you won. Vice versa if you're playing well and didn't win. And then there was other games for him, went. Because I think that, if I'm right, you'd probably correct me. You know 80s, early 80s, mid 80s. Being just another one a lot at Celtic Parker from Ray. You know, it's in them a long time when it's Celtic. Part of a few draws is the wearing in my time. But that was how tense the games were. The games were always tense like that. I mean, even the game we lost 5-1. I think we went 1-0. And then we went 1-0 a few times. And then Tom scored a world error. And then went off after about 15 minutes. And he started about a house on fire. I haven't quite a lot. And then Andy scores a world error 1-0. We were really in this sentence. And he goes off and that was a massive blow. And then he goes off and that was a massive blow. And then he goes off and that was a massive blow. And then he goes off. And then he goes off and that was a massive blow. And then he goes off. And then he goes off. And then he goes off. And that's why you've got to be careful for it. You could get sent off after 5 or 10 minutes. Yeah. And it changes totally. But sometimes the most satisfying one for me was when you come off the pitch you thought we were nowhere near that. And we've come away with our point. Seriously? Honestly. Sometimes they're better than they can. Real convincing where you know that you don't stroll their games. But you win pretty easily. You're just every single player in the pitch has brought their A game. They're great. But sometimes they're the ones when you don't play well and you come away and you think. And then what I always thought was it would be devastating. And sometimes they're more than it did. Obviously as we are, there's no one in the game. So that is to your enjoyment? Kind of. Because you would come off and the fans would be sick. Or whatever. And obviously I'm talking about playing it self-departing. You would walk off and you could feel the disappointment. And say do you think that's a brilliant point for us. Yeah. I think that was a big thing. I think that was a flip for Celtic last year. Three games Celtic were three. One up. And then after it sort of rang, I don't mean celibate. They did that. They did that. And the manager says about the moral victory. Yeah. I think that was the one for me. And I said it on here to the show after it. And I said that it's Celtic the way the players walked off. It was a big disappointment for them. And that's very unusual when you go to eyebrows. His body's talking about a Celtic part. And you come away with a draw and you think. Yeah. That was great. Before the game you would have said. I've been saying at home you're saying. So Celtic players come off at eyebrows. This appointed. You know. And that was probably the flip for me, Paul. And that's a particular match. You know. And that's what I'm saying. You have to be switched on all the time. Because Celtic with E1 up and cruising. All of a sudden. Bang. You have the ball away goal. Next one. Panel to kick. You're thinking that the game changed. On its head. See the fact that it throws all sorts of things out here. Emotions. Everything. It's just. It's crazy. And people actually describe it. What's it like to play? It's so hard to describe. What's it like? Honestly. As it's so hard to describe just. How do you keep your nerve? It starts. You know. It's a good. It's a good question. It was always hard standing a tunnel in here. You could hear the noise. Foulter through it. It was just. Yeah. It's just a strange situation. But that was in a situation that was unbelievable. Always thought. I'm doing something that millions of people wanted to do. Yeah. Yeah. As it's just that. It's an unbelievable game. Do you know this thing I was called? Yeah. Us too. Because we were brought up. So we knew that it was. We know what it means to your family. Everything like that. I was listening to a few of the games since last week. And games soon as was talking about it. And you said they've been in Italy. They said Darby's. They've been in German. Sorry. Turkey. Yeah. Love her pool. Everything. She said nothing touches it. Nothing. And that's why sometimes I'm a wee bit concerned to say that. Say what's the biggest Darby in the world. I know that. But for Graham Souness who's played. And I'm told that Europe. Because obviously I look at the Bombadera. And I think wow. I'd love to go to that. To watch that Argentina. You know I'd love to go and see that game. But for Graham Souness who's been about to talk. As I say in Europe. He's about to flag. That's exactly. And he said he said but nothing. And you know the passion there as well. Yeah. and touches a Celtic range as much? - My first day of four games passed me by. They did, they passed me by because I played the game as a supporter and I remember getting spoken to you and says, listen, you need to go out and do what you're asked to do and what you can do. You know, you're gonna, you're trying to make a name for yourself, you're trying to obviously be a wee bit late and I talk home with him and I'll bonus you the first three of four games I was thinking to myself. I need to get a grip here. I just kind of get a foothold in the game and then when I kind of changed that mindset, that's when I started to have an effect on the game. - An effect on the game, yep, that's the, yeah, two of the words on my mouth, that's a good word, Paul. No, that's exactly the case. - Peter, how did you manage to stay calm? - Because of the nerves, I never really pulled away. I was intense all the time. I never, when I booked a smile on my pitch, I was always pointing as you know. I was Peter the Pointer, but I was always intense and grossing the game and wanting to be involved. And listen, I get sent off for Chasna Ball. If you kick that, that tells you enough. I was like, "The boy for his eye year in the 1974 World Cup." - You blew the whistle. - I don't know, the wall 'cause it was a noodle that came in at the time and I started behind the wall. I'd just been booked and I thought, well, if no good time you change, I sort of need to just wanna take it quick. So I'd start on the edge of the wall to charge it and usually you change it if you've been booked. Never get the time to get the wall 'cause the wall was already set up with the time I get back in. Get back in, referee blows his whistle. And I think it was Ian Ferguson. Ian was come not to hit it and stopped actually. And I'm about to end up about two yards, three yards in front of the ball. It's my second booking. I've been booked for the free kick. Then I've been booked, I'm sent off. - Yeah, it was a definite send off. (laughing) - How about the final thing, what is it? After a poll, there was three Rangers plus set after it. - All right. People wouldn't know it at the time, but three Rangers plus get sent off or up in the same game. There was four sent off for the game. - Where was the game? - Celtic Park. I get sent off at Celtic Park and that walk, about 50 yard walk was, it was like 50 minutes. - What did you do? - What had happened? - I was taking a booting, I fell on the ball and Jonathan Gold comes sprinting it for no reason at all. And that was I taking a booting. - Off. - You must have been devastated. - I've never stated. (laughing) The walk was even worse. - What did your dad say to you afterwards? - Never. - Never. - Never, never. - Never. - I mentioned when you said Peter about Alima Coise missing a sitter on the line and I said desert, I wasn't having a go. It deserts, I actually just reminded him that even the great Alima Coise, all time greatest goal scorer for Rangers and he missed on the line. And I was just thinking about deserts. You know, we've praised them a lot here as well and you've said about it. It just shows you, doesn't it? We remember the goals for greats like Alie, but for deserts and I know he's missed stuff. - Yeah, he misses but Paul will go back to it. Again, in Saturday, the few opportunities I think. Got his score there. - Yeah. - I tell you, he keeps putting his self in the position and I've get huge respect for that. And he's got his critics and I can understand why at times he's got his critics. But one thing you've got to take your heart off till he's keeps putting his self in the position. - That's what the strikers for Celtic Ninja's do because predominantly they get the most chances. - Sure. - They'd go any mess. One, it'd be 10-0 in a week. You know what I mean? So, you know they're going in this, but it's what you watch where he says they're all around, like I've talked about last year, Kyogo. I thought Kyogo's movement was excellent. Didn't he pass a ball quick? - How do you think Kyogo said he wasn't getting the supply? - If you're from the service, you'll score goals. - Sure, yeah. - That's the way it ends up at the end of this season. Even this season, you give him service, he will score goals up, we feel like he's moving on last line. - Is he going to score this weekend? - Well, that'd be interesting to see we shoulder. You know, we're Brendan's season. I know he come on at the weekend for not long, 20 minutes, whatever, I don't mean it, but I'm sure Brendan will start him. I'm sure he will, because I don't think Adam he does up to speed Jerry. And I think if he shoulders okay, 100% Kyogo start. - Do you think they don't know? (laughs) Don't score. - Yeah, do you think they'll score this weekend? - If he gets a supply, he'll have to. He'll always get a chance. - Even if it's healthy or dominant, you'll always get one or two chances, and it's been clinical when you do get the chances. But I think if Kyogo's fat, he's got to play. If you see him in a team, then you know you're in for a game 'cause his movement is not in stop, isn't it? And I think if you are a stranger, send him back to the withdrawal I'd play against, I think they would say either. - Have they had their choice? - Yeah. - He's not up to speed jets. - No, it's not the full preseason, 'cause it's between... - To be fair, he walked hard, and the game had sat, they made good runs, coupleies probably could have done better, but a couple opportunities said to keep it a good save from him. Sometime he's linked play wasn't as good as it has been because he've always come up with his boots and all of a minute. It's very difficult, as you see, you're just coming in, you're game cold and whatever. And also the fact is that you've not played games, 'cause it does, but I'll tell you, some players will say it takes you about four or five games, and it's starting to season to get your fitness up, and your football brain, and you're touching all that up. So that's why I think Brendan will go with Kyogo, and I think maybe that's why he left him on the bench, give him that wee bit extra, give him a few minutes late in the game, and he was excellent when he came on, he's what the ethics always good, closing the goals. - That's what I would do. - That's the biggest thing, Grant Hill. He's really good movement, he can score a goal. He's a pest. - Yep. - He's a pet, even for holding midfield. Have you got the ball off his centre backs? - He's always at the back here, you know what I mean? He's never stopped. - Spence to the goal, it's quite a simple thing. So if you're putting on the pressure, you give goalkeeper a time whose ball come as the goalkeeper that was playing for St. Vernon. What he does with him, he's a very good user to the ball, but he would go and put him under pressure, and block the ball, and try and block the ball, and that doesn't allow an easy ball forward, and the strikers are out to the wide men or whatever, and that takes away part of your game. If you've got a striker, because you see, I like these guys, the ball goes back to the goal of the stop, and they just go like the goalkeeper, going to do it every once. I think that's my point for you. - Goes crazy for me, why would you press? - No, they're 10 or 15 yards, and it goes back to the goalkeeper, 'cause let's be honest, I know they do a lot of work with their feet, but it is their weakest point in that game. Go and press 'em, but yeah, that's what I mean if you play against Kyogo, you must be like, it's so annoying. He's everything, we're in, absolutely. - Stephen McGinn on the show last night, a lot of big John was saying, Peter, that he thought that he loved your heart, but he said that Peter Schmichael's distribution, Casper Schmichael's distribution. - Casper's, I hope he loves playing the songs. - He was in the stand. Casper Schmichael's distribution is better. Have you seen that so far? - I would agree with that, I would agree with that, and as I say, I think Joe done well with it, because I think it was something that was always points, obviously, Guadola gets ready and right away soon, and he might as well say, I wasn't, he's go-keeping, because he's used to the ball, and obviously, I'm breaking that up and then, but Casper's got very, very good feet. He's used his feet more often than he used his hands. Well, in a couple of few games, in a few few games, he's probably two saves. It's straight arm, you know, apart from that bit, he's distribution and he's selection of pass, because Barry will tell you, as he go-keepers passing the ball out, they pass out to the midfielder, but the midfielder who's closing them down, or whoever's closing them down's on that side of, he plays safe side, so he knows what's expected to do the ball going out, and he's telling his player to complete that side, because there's no, some do on you, but he's on the opposite side. So he's thinking about the pass, and he's not just passing out, putting the player under pressure, he's making the right selection, so the player can make the right selection, and that's the difference for me. - Important, Barry, isn't it? It's so important, the keepers, it's the start of any attack, and he looks good so far, Casper. - Yeah, well, he's fitting. Look, Grant, I mentioned that I've not seen him having to make a really difficult save yet. He's not been tested. - Probably a pre-season games man, so he'll shoot a couple of big saves to make that. That's one of my ones, but- - And he's got a loan showing him, and he's not been a bit less than he's been. - Why don't you think they'll enter the picture? - The picture, thanks. But as you mentioned, hopefully Casper will be playing him. - Yes, Peter is going to be there at the game I can exclusively predict. - This is the Good Radio Football Show. Listen live, weeknights from five on go. - Let's go! - This time tomorrow night, we'll be here with Andy Walker, Craig Moore, counting down that we one day to go to the transfer window, and news in the last hour, Peter Celtic, have upped the bid for Andy Ingalls to 10 million reports from Germany saying he looks better, looking for even more. Well, they would, wouldn't they best? That's a fair bit of cash. That'd be the biggest ever. - Yeah, of course. Listen, I've obviously seen 25 million reported looking, and then they'll not be stupid. You know, these guys will not need to sell. They'll think, well, sell to go to that desperate for them. We'll put a price up and listen for, but all do the same thing. And listen, it's not really the price. I don't care what they play for the players. It's kind of command matter, I believe, is 1.5 million. So, and it turned out to be a superstar for them, so it doesn't matter. You know, you've got to come in and perform, and no matter what the price is, everybody else plays a price. They call it pay the price. You're the player that's just got to go and perform, and that's the pressure. Whoever comes for Celtic, that's what they've got to do, is perform. And if they do that, no matter how much the cost of funds, they'll love them that, like they've done, as I said, they prove him out of the railing, but it's so disappointing to see him go, but we're blessing from them because of the way he conducted his sell through it. Yeah, he's been brilliant, hasn't he? Absolutely. And we wish him well, we hope he's back soon. But he hopefully the tackle, although it was a bad one, hopefully it's not going to be too damaging to the player and he's back, 'cause he doesn't miss many games, does he? No, I mean, I can't recall if he had an engineer at Celtic. I know it took a few knocks up here as well, but I'm sure it'll be desperate to have him back as quickly as possible. And if, as a case he's going to be about for a number of weeks, is that going to affect Balagalmo? Moving. Oh, of course. It could, 'cause I would imagine that he was brought in because obviously, Balagalmo looks like he's gone to Annapley. For only 12 or 13 million. So they've spent, they're the second biggest spending club, Brighton, and this transfer window. Amazing, isn't it? So have you look over the... I in Europe, not just now? Yes, yes. You look over the period of time since they've come into the Premier League. They're selling value players, is frightening. I think it was something like, what, 300 million pound? They've made, we're bringing players in for say, five million pound, 10 million pound, and selling them on for 70, 80 million pound more than they bought them for. But when I went in board moves, as a assistant manager, I was still playing at the time. I went down there. We were playing Brighton in the same league. The first division, it was on the second division, and they were playing at the Whithding, which was our running track, it was horrendous. That's right, this before... Bobby played there for 10 years. That's right, they were. No, you think, board moves, Ann Brighton are both in the Premier League. It's quite forgotten. The ground was going and everything wasn't even done. Wasn't even done by Brent. Yeah, for the council, it was terrible. We were getting ready and put our carbons in. As I said, it was a, it was a runner. You remember what made the bank was like before even this new split, didn't you? A million times worse than that, and it used to be blowing a gale and whatever. But it's some great players, even then the Bobby's and more. Isn't that it, this world? Bobby and that all come through there. You know, so... But it just shows your remarkable, that dreams do come true. And the way they've run that club in, it's been phenomenal, actually. Certainly have also, well, they have signed on loan for a year for, it's 1.3 million, and that's the latest Peter for Valley, or Valley. Well, I don't know much about this, but I've heard the name, but I can honestly say I like to be, boy, I'm just going to say to you, Paul, play the left back for Salty. Yeah, I thought he played really well in the games, and had been out in Australia last year in a loan, and seemingly done well out there. But I thought he'd done really well in pieces, as totally did, and totally come on and started there. And I thought he was actually like one. He's all done for a small period. How does a young man feel then? Yeah, what does that tell you? I've been bringing in a 20 year old for Barcelona when they've got players of you. You've watched all the pieces. Yeah, I thought he'd done really well. Yeah, I thought he'd done really well. I mean, it's the young guy you think that's, well, I'm further down the paint, no, don't I? And I was thinking, by the way-- And he's about to say me, just me. I know the thing I would say, he was playing against me in Dukey, and that's why I'm judging him. I've not talking about saying I was a young boy playing against him. It was my Dukey who scored the heart-trick at the weekend for Chelsea, who was playing against him. And I thought he played really well against him, and Manchester City. You know, as I thought, Tyler did-- the first time I'd seen him was against Queen's Park. And then he continued it when Brendan put him on. I know Brendan had been quoted as saying, and he'll always say, but Champions League is a different level. I understand that 100%. But that's maybe what you're getting this. How's your young guy's going to get an opportunity? What is the progress for-- Young Anderson's, what, about 20, isn't he? Well, you know what I was trying to ask you? Yeah, yeah, so he didn't know what I was trying to ask you. But I thought, Paul, physically, he matched the games, and I hope it was pre-season, but he could get forward. He was good in the tackle. He picked up good defensive positions. I know you're saying that experience for Champions League. Is this point of sight? Yeah, exactly. No, that's a point on me. That's a point. I see if it's an experience where I can say, right, OK, right? But it's not. But if it's somebody the same age, and probably played more first team games, if he's went to Australia and played in the first team, which seemingly did, but I was really impressed. And I'm only going to be pre-season Brendan season every single day. I'm only going to be the pre-season games. And he never let itself down at all. And I know the pre-season games that I see. Mattious Bogusch's name has come up against from LAFC. You'll be playing tonight, Peter. You'll be watching 2 AM, 3 AM. I do that, Paul. I don't want to, but sometimes you can. I don't want to. Watch your football when it's on, don't worry about that. Barry as well. Do you know how he blends in at that time? I didn't mean watching that one, but-- You'll obviously-- he'll be still nervous a bit if he can, don't worry about that. He'll be twisting and dumbing. What's an Eduard? His name's still there for-- it's not going to be Celtic, but he could be elsewhere. I see him ket here on his way there. It's going to be at 40 hours. Like, well, we haven't seen for some time. Barry, I know I'm just watching to see if there's been any change since we came on here at five tonight. Yeah, I've been looking myself to see of the big, confirmed the two players that we were speaking about, but nothing so far, I think, on that one. Remember last week, we had a lively discussion, really good YouTube and great forum about young players not getting the chance, not breaking through the SFA report. Stevie Clark was asked about it, about the homegrown report, that there's not enough players getting a chance, something you're both passionate about. Here's what he said. Anyone else-- a failure at the top level. Everybody tends to look down the way. Obviously, the reports came out recently. The highlights that there are some areas where we can improve. We have to look to improve. It's all very well-written reports. And doing reports, you have to act on those reports. Now, do we need to change something? Yes, we do. But all the clubs now have to sit down. All the people that are paid to do that job have to sit down together. They have to come up with a way that might change. We certainly have to try something a little bit different. But it takes everybody to agree and then move forward. And hopefully they can. I think we do need to improve on the debt I've just spoken about earlier, about trying to get a bigger pull of talent. Now, we're not the biggest country, so we don't have lots of people. We're not England. We can't leave quality players behind. But what we shouldn't be doing is when we lose two or three players in a key position-- or two players in a key position if you take right back, for example. And then you're looking and saying under that, what was the next one? What was the next one? Going across the whole board, we need to have better players behind. So if the pull of talent can go from, I think, of name 24 there, you probably need about 44 where you're picking players from 44, 45. That gives you the chance when you do have injuries and you do have problems with players, maybe not being selected at their clubs, that you have a better debt for talent. That's what we need to get. Peter, where do you take from that? I understand. But I think people keep missing a big point for me. And a big point for me is, and if they're going to say, oh, well, the first team they've got to have eight, nine subs, if they're saying that, the first team, there's no way in this earth I would be alone at anything under that. There should be no nine subs. And I mean at any level under that. Because I believe, and I would say, the championship shouldn't be allowed nine subs, seven subs of whatever it is. All these boys. Dundee and Aitid were stronger, Aberdeen were stronger, Gibbs were stronger, Harts were stronger. Because just imagine, I'm only talking for you if you have a Glasgow point of view. If Celtic and Rangers had good players and guys would move out, Harts, for a while, your big Dave McPherson went for Rangers. And that's all we're going to get to know. Terry Butcher, come on, all right, he's got to go. Well, it went in Harts, he didn't go to his sit in the bench. So there's too many boys, no playing. So for me, it turned up at a youth game and see seven or eight subs is ridiculous, ridiculous. And that's where the death of talent is. But that's weekend, week out, they're not playing school football. So Paul, they're not playing football. I know. So how the hell can we talk about the development? Yeah, they go to these schools and that's, so what? I touched the ball more than a day, the nail touching a week. I don't care what anybody says. They're now in a week. And that is, damn it, don't they? Yeah, everybody needs to agree. We'll see if everybody's truthful. Your system doesn't work. So for the better of your game, we need to all sit around the table and sort it. Because we don't produce enough players. And that's not just the system that's been placed, the academy system. I'm talking free grassroots as well, which is important to get these players playing football. Alone at the play with our school and their boys' clubs. This is, that's the way I think it should harm. It's something that I'm passionate about. And I think if you ask any ex-player, I can't play with their degree. And I would like to thank the coaches and the clubs. I agree that the system in place, just now when they go full-time, I don't think it works for us. Thanks for the last two of us, guys. Can you believe that's it? Barry, you'll be back on Friday. We'll get your prediction. Peter, what is your prediction? Well, my way. I've said nothing, I've said nothing, you know. Oh, no, no, no, no, you know. Oh, we're sitting the fence in this one. You know what I mean? But if I talk about this one... But you want to be happy afterwards? Yes. Sorry, louder, this radio. I was saying, yes, from Peter. Have a great birthday on Friday. Yeah, which you share with... A great mobile in us. Bob, it's MBE. Oh, what a fantastic matter. Have a happy 65th birthday. That's the last day I do. You know, thanks so much. We're about to run it at five. So he's up after the news. This is the good radio football show. Listen live, weeknights from five on go. Let's go!
